I am currently working full-time and pay for all my own stuff, including my own place, car, etc. I will be attending university in the fall as a full-time student. My musical preference is metal although that isn't too much of an issue issue.

Coldarra. So nennt Blizzard Entertainment ihren europäischen Beta Server für das kommende Addon zu World of Warcraft, genannt Wrath of the Lich King. Auch ich fand vor ein paar Tagen einen der heißbegehrten Beta Keys in meinem virtuellen Postkasten. Der Macintosh Client konnte nach (teils gefühlten) 10 Stunden Download installiert werden. Ich erweiterte meinen bestehenden Account und wenige Minuten später wurden auch meine Jägerin und mein Druide nach Coldarra kopiert. Nach einigen Patches wurden die lästigen Laggs die das Testen völlig unmöglich machten behoben. Oder hat Blizzard den Server heimlich von Übersee nach Frankreich geschafft? Who knows!

 Aber nun : Northrend ich komme!

Genauso heißt der neue Kontinent. Wer das Strategiespiel Warcraft 3 gezockt hat, weiß wovon ich spreche. Natürlich darf Northrend nicht nur aus Eiswüsten und Gletschern bestehen, dafür hat Blizzard gesorgt. Mir fielen fasst die Augen aus dem Kopf als meine Betagali per Zeppelin nach Northrend kam. Größer, weiter und besonders - schöner sind schon die ersten Gebiete des neuen Addons gestaltet.

Zugegeben, das vorige Addon The Burning Crusade bescherte WoW ein dezentes Grafikupdate, aber das was ich bis jetzt in der Beta sehen durfte war atemberaubend. Wenn man dieses Spiel schon 4 Jahre kennt ist man doch ziemlich gerührt was aus der Engine Baujahr 2003/2004 rausgeholt wurde. Selbst dynamische Schatten sind da, wobei die in der Beta (Ausrufezeichen) noch ein bisschen fehlerhaft sind.

Hier mal ein kleiner Grafikvergleich. Meine Grafikeinstellungen in der Beta und auf dem Live Servern sind gleich, so niedrig wie möglich. FPS ist alles! ;) (klickt für eine größere Ansicht)

Auf dem ersten Blick sieht das Ganze nicht ganz so weltbewegend aus, aber beim zweiten Blick erkennt man das die Texturen schärfer sind und einige Schatten hinzugefügt wurden. Zudem sind die Farben etwas satter. (siehe Wappenrock)

Ich habe euch übrigens noch einige bewegte Bilder zu einem der beiden Startgebiete in Northrend aufgenommen. Ich hoffe die Qualität ist okay.

Das Video kommt Morgen bzw. heute, da ich langsam meinen Schlaf benötige. ;-)

Ich habe mir den Heulenden Fjord vorgenommen. Mir gefallen besonders die weiten Wiesen und die Nordlicher am Himmel. Ich zeige euch im Video die Burg Utgarde, einer der beiden ersten Dungeons die man besuchen kann. Utgarde wird von fiesen Nordmännern gewohnt die sich dort auf einen Krieg gegen die beiden Fraktionen der Allianz und der Horde vorbereiten. Danach kommt die Küstenregion dran. Eisschollen und schneebedeckte Inseln dominieren dort. Selbst einige Schiffe sind dort zu finden. Die Küste erreicht man mit Aufzüge. Als letztes kommt ein interessanter brennender Wald dran (das kommt davon wenn man Drachen frei rumlaufen lässt :D ) sowie die Flüsternde Schlucht wo die Zwerge der Allianz kräftig Eisenerz abbauen. Es gibt natürlich noch viel mehr zu entdecken, alleine im Fjord, aber mein Reitwolf geht die puste aus, der braucht erstmal eine Pause. ;)

Die Hintergrundmusik ist übrigens auch erste Sahne. In WoW Classic und auch BC ging diese nach wenigen Stunden sehr auf die Nerven, aber in Northrend hört man immer gern den verschiedenen Soli von Geige und co. zu.

Ich hoffe es hat euch gefallen. Demnächst werde ich weitere Gebiete aufs Korn nehmen, aber momentan spiele ich erstmal meinen Todesritter, eine neue Klasse die mit dem Addon ebenfalls kommen soll. ;)

I spend about an hour and a half each day commuting to work and back, I take road trips about once every two months, and fortunately there are many opportunities in my profession to listen to podcasts as I work. Hence, I have had plenty of time in my days and weeks to listen to podcasts and audiobooks on my ipod and have grown extremely fond of my multitude of audio content. I often wonder if I am the only person out there who loves listening to the WoW podcasts, and thought that perhaps I could provide my own insights and opinions of the podcasts I subscribe to. Perhaps I can even encourage some pod-newbies to tune in to my favorite podcasts.

So here goes my first blog attempt.

My goals are as follows:

1. To submit my own personal reviews on the podcasts I have listened to and enjoy
2. To persuade those fans of WoW whom have never listened to a podcast to try them out
3. To offer up suggestions for other podcasts worth checking out to those listeners who may have dabbled in a few podcasts already
4. To perhaps one day foster a community for fellow WoW podfans.

Play Session 1 (Played for 3 mins.) (Level 1)

I made a human warrior. I made a human warrior because it is the simplest character to make. I will however try out a Horde warrior to see of any differences. And I will try a spell caster and a rogue on both sides. Going on, in this three minutes I did notice many new things like the mini map. There were question marks and exclamation points on the it, this was a nice new feature making it easier to find and turn in quests. Also I found the tracking thing cool although you can only track one kind of thing at a time.

Play Session 2 (Played for 1 hr.) ( Lvls 1-6)

This play session I actually played the game. I got back into the groove of the game very quickly and started remembering the hot keys. The one hot key that was bothering me was going to the inventory is hotkey "b" and I was hitting "i" which sends you to the party search screen. So I started questing with my human warrior named Slammys, the name Slammy was already taken. Slammys had to kill the kobold vermin and get meat from dead wolves. Getting the meat was very annoying, because some of the wolves didn't have meat. I remembered the annoying quest drops from when I quit. In Age of Conan, I play it, if your looking for wolf meat or a lion mane they will always have drop it when killed because a male lion will always have it's mane and dead wolf will always have meat on it. Why a wolf doesn't have meat on it I do not understand and never understood. Also I had to get the bandannas from the Defias Thugs. All of them had bandannas and of course some times they didn't drop, WHY?! While fighting the creatures and finishing up the starting quests I noticed, I have never noticed this before, the combat is very dull. The battle animations are the same so far for different abilities, they should look different. When I use Rend and make a enemy bleed it look different from a Heroic Strike dealing extra damage. You are basically watching your character fight. I do know that I am a low level and there won't be many options to start out with, but this was also another reason I quit because the combat was repetitive. It is almost like an action rpg simulator.

Oddly enough I started grinding. Which is very odd indeed because I hate the whole idea of grinding. I just started attacking creatures. It was like killing those creature was some form of crack. After which seemed like a long time I turned in my last quests and continued on. So I stopped playing and Slammys is now resting in the Lion's Pride Inn. When I was done I was level six.

I would like to make a note, I now see the need to grind. This need to grind makes me sad because there should not be a need to grind. I know I am only level six but I got so much experience points from grinding combined with the quest experience. It was an odd feeling just sitting at the computer attacking small creatures over and over again. Damn World of Warcrack, damn it.

Prima tappa in terra Ligure per il nostro Tour UAOO! al Glamour Beach durante la notte che introduce lo sfrenato ferragosto italiano. Per l’occasione i UAOO! boys son diventati tre in quanto si è rivisto uno dei ragazzi cha ha dato il la a questo lungo e UAOO! Tour, Diego.

Il Glamour Beach di Marinella di Sarzano (La Spezia), è un locale davvero eclettico, la mattina, quando indossa i panni o meglio il “costume” del Tropicana Beach allieta le tintarelle dei suoi bagnanti con musica, spiaggia pulita ed un bar con posti a sedere che permettono di rinfrescarsi un po’ dopo tanto sole; la sera invece, quando diventa il locale Glamour per eccellenza della costa offre serate veramente uniche, in particola modo tutti i Giovedì.

Ed è stato così anche Giovedì 14 Agosto, una serata veramente UAOO!, nonostante qualche nuvola minacciasse sia il divertimento di tutti i clienti del Glamour Beach sia il lavoro dei ragazzi UAOO!

Tante le facce allegre e di conseguenza tante le foto UAOO! scattate dai nostri 3 boys Luigi, Diego e Dante che ancora una volta si sono divertiti ed hanno fatto divertire tutti i personaggi UAOO!, e non solo, che hanno partecipato alla serata.

Una menzione speciale meritano 2 volti UAOO! di Milano Elisa e Francesca che con la loro simpatia hanno incrementato sia gli scatti UAOO! che le risate dei nostri ragazzi nonostante il piccolo danno procurato :D…….ciao ragazze!!!

Ovviamente il successo di una serata UAOO! lo si deve in primis all’accoglienza del locale che ci ha ospitato ed anche alla sua capacità di offrire un sano divertimento a tutti, per questo facciamo i più sinceri ringraziamenti a tutto lo staff del Glamour Beach !

ovviamente è stata la splendida ed allegra Viareggio. Tutta l’allegria viareggina i nostri amici l’hanno potuta toccare con mano o meglio ballare con piedi durante una delle giornate della II edizione del Festival Latino. 

Ma la manifestazione non è solo per gli appassionati della danza, ma anche per chi ama ascoltare esibizioni live di gruppi musicali latino-americani e caraibici e per chi come i nostri camperisti UAOO! ama il cibo di quelle zone :D, insomma il Festival Latino di Viareggio è l’evento ideale per chi vuole trascorrere una serata in allegria, lo sanno bene i nostri UAOO! boys che si sono divertiti tantissimo nonostante la lunga giornata di lavoro, ma che soprattutto hanno riscontrato in tutte le persone UAOO!che hanno fotografato, un gran bel sorriso. Quindi valgon doppio i ringraziamenti per l’organizzazione che ci ha ospitato e ci ha permesso di lavorare al meglio durante in evento così bello e grande.

Amid a bunch of other stuff, was footage of a 2v2 game from Zilea’s perspective. Zilea is a top ranked Holy Paladin. The footage can be downloaded here: http://files.filefront.com/DruidRogueRNGROFLwmv/;11528941;/fileinfo.html. It’s Pally/Rogue (Zilea’s team) vs. a very high rated Rogue/Druid comp.

Overall, I don’t really watch WoW videos because it’s just mostly people showcasing their sick crits and stuff. But in this case it’s a full 12min match from Zilea’s. I can’t say how INVALUABLE this was for me, to see just a normal game from the perspective of a top rated player.  I know a lot of it is just casting Flash of Light (that's what we do, dawg), but the most interesting things to me are first of all, how he sets up his keybindings (one of my biggest problem areas) and how he handles bad situations and still keeps his partner alive.

I’ve been doing a lot of losing in BGs lately, to the point that I’ve been very frustrated. To the point that I haven’t been playing the past couple of days. But, I was motivated by that video. In fact, I was up pretty late last night trying to get all the games I could in.

I’m looking for more Holy Paladin PVP videos at the moment. I’m hoping someone can point me in the direction of some good ones.

My progress is stalled by 2 things. Playing with PuGs and being undergeared. It’s hard to learn anything when you are getting focus fire’d and taken down in seconds cause you don’t have 10k health. So until I’m on equal ground with other players, I’m not sure how much I can improve.

Farming honor is hard when you play on a limited time schedule. I earned about 3000 honor last night, and I played for about 3 hours. AND that includes turn-ins. I’m not sure if I want to go for the s2 legs or helm next. Either would be a huge upgrade for me. But to get the legplates means I’d probably have to suffer through 20 losses in WSG. I HATE WSG.

Specifically, part of what makes a game a "WoW-killer" might be how players view it in terms of their own attachment to WoW*. Is this a game that will make them leave WoW and move over for good to something else? I hadn't considered that, because WoW wasn't a "make your home here" game for me in the first place -- I'm just not the right kind of player for WoW's primary focus (though boy, do I love some of the fluff! Pets! Non combat pets! Say no more).

From there, I wondered yet again what makes a game more than a game -- an online home, so to speak. A place where you don't just log on to kill things, you log on to hang with your homies and do stuff that isn't strictly-speaking game-centric, i.e. stuff that you could just as easily do in IRC, but that isn't nearly as much fun that way.

Asheron's Call was like that for me, and - not coincidentally - was my first MMO. Many players had the same reaction to their first MMO, be it EQ, UO, AC, and of course more recently, WoW; it would be naive to ignore the fact that probably more people played WoW as their first MMO than played all of the prior MMOs put together. (OK it's an opinion, since it's not supported by data, but I'm pretty confident it's not too far off the money.)

Since then, I've tried many times to recapture that sense of kinship, community, cameraderie in various newer MMOs. It's hard to do; it may be impossible. But then, the desire itself may be impossible. Nothing after the first time will ever be the first time again -- the water under that particular bridge is long gone. Nonetheless, I (optimistically?) believe it's possible to find that "MMO-home" feeling in any game, provided it fills your specific needs.

In that sense, WAR might very well be a "WoW-killer" for me; well, it already is, since I don't actually play WoW anymore, but you know what I mean. Hooking up with Casualties of WAR alongside my long, long-time tribe from AC (+just about every other MMO produced since), the Knights Who Say Ni (where I go by the name of Eloise, long story), is pretty sure to make WAR a busy, social, sociable, entertaining, laughter-filled experience. Which is what will set it apart from every other game I'm not playing - WoW included.

So what's the plan? Well, I haven't got it all figured out yet but here's some ideas to make that gold grind go faster. And no, I don't intend to play the auction house game by buying low and selling high. I'll gamble when I have money to gamble with, and no sooner.

• Of course I'll do my dailies each day, its an easy 200g a day
• Up in Blade's Edge Mountains there are some serpents flying around. They drop the meat used for the spell damage food. They also skin for knothide leather and have a chance to drop windscales which sell on my server for about 12g each. Seems like a good grinding spot. Only thing to watch out for is one of the Sons of Gruul that roams around
• Hitting Elemental Plateau in Nagrand. While usually over farmed, during the late night hours that I play I can usually get a good thing going with the water elementals. I clear one side and then the other, fish up the pure water spots and then go around again. Its a constant system and the motes drop at a 62% rate. Primal water sells for 25g each.
• Cobra scales in ShadowMoon Valley. While not much else around then the Naga the scales sell for around 40g each one. It took me an hour to get the four I needed to have my leg enchant made.
• Air Elementals in Shadowmoon Valley. Either the ones by the drakes or the ones behind the aldor city. These have a lower drop rate then the waters do, but sell for more at 30g a piece on our server.
• Aldor Rep Items at Legion Hold. Everyone is Aldor it seems. At the top of Legion Hold are some warlocks, four to spire, three spires across. They drop gold, netherweave cloth, greens, and of course, Marks of Sargaras and Fel Armenants. These don't sell for a lot per say, but the warlocks instantly respawn and make them extremely easy to farm.
• The Dead Mire in the Zangermarsh. Ideally this is best for an herblist but a non herblist can do it too. You start at one side and work your way around. The bog lords have a chance of dropping motes of life which sell for about 20g each on our server. But oddly enough its all the grey crap you get that makes it a great farm spot.

So what do I do once I've filled up my bags with goodies to sell? Well....

• All grey items get vendored off immediately. If I've got full bags this can net me about 12g a go. I don't ever throw anything away, its worth the gold to run back and clean out the bags.
• While I'm farming I send everything to a bank alt. She holds stuff for me until I'm ready to sell it, including my gold. I never have more then 50g on any of my active alts, or I might feel inclined to spend it.
• Once on my bank alt I post everything that is of white quality or better on the AH. Even if you think it doesn't have a value you'd be surprised what sells. When I have large amounts of something unless I know its in high demand (ie Stat Food or Primals) I section it off into smaller more usable stacks and post no more then 10 stacks of an item. Otherwise I may flood the market and sabotage my own efforts.
• When I have something really rare, I check the current going prices for that item. If they are lower then I'd like it to be I wait. Eventually those ones will sell and the way will be clear for me to name my price. If you don't wish to wait you'll need to undercut your competition by at least 10 percent if you really want it to sell. Remember you want your buyer to think they are robbing you.
• When it comes to rep items I try to get the stacks up to max. I always found it a pain to have to buy 10 marks of sagaras here and 2 more there. Stack em up before you post 'em.
• I don't post green items. I have them DE'd by my husband's priest. I hang on to the mats until I hear people complain about how stupid expensive they've gotten, then I post them. Enchanting mats are not something most people can or will farm, so they ALWAYS sell.
