Till now, I haven't figured out, how to tell mplayer to read the .asx-file, so I've to extract the mms-link by myself with sed.

So i want to share with you, a simple steps how to download "Streaming Video " or "online video". Bare with me, cause my posting going to be a little bit technical and using a lots of IT jargon. I'll try my best to explain it. It's a very popular among the netters and futhermore this option suitable for working mothers who don't have time to catch up their favourite TV shows. And can save money from buying VCDs and DVDs. I personally think for buying a DVD set of KDrama is incredibly expensive as it cost around rm80-150 per box here in Malaysia.

Video Streaming can be found in Youtube, Daily motion, Megavideo, etc and now even tv3/tv8/tv9 have their own video streaming websites. The video file usually in .flv format initially known as Shockwave Flash. All this video streaming can be downloaded and save it in your pc.One of my favourites software called 'Orbit Downloader'. You can easily grab the video by using this software. It only takes 5 steps to complete the whole process.

Step 1: Download 'Orbit Downloader' and install it

Step 2 : Once the 'Orbit Downloader' has been installed, now open any streaming video website of your choice and choose a video to dowanload. After that 'Right Click your mouse" and select 'Grab video by Orbit'.

Step 3 : Grab screen pop up will appear. Tick the File check box and click 'DOWNLOAD'. Keep refreshing the page if there is no video available in the list. This step a bit confusing at first, but you eventually get used to it.

Step 4: When a 'Create New Download' screen appears, you can rename the file then click OK button

Step 5: Now the file is starting to download and wait till it's complete. Duration of downloading depends on your network bandwith and your PC performance. Usually for a file size below 10MB will takes approx. about 5-10 minutes.

Walla, now it's all done. After finished, open the file using K-Lite Codec , VLC Player or other software preferable that can support .flv format.

Si te preguntas como puedes poner el reproductor VLC como predeterminado para ver tus DVD`s en Ubuntu 8.04, ahora mismo te lo explico.

Primero instalamos VLC, que está en los repositorios.

Luego abrimos nuestra consola y escribimos:

sudo gedit /etc/gnome/defaults.list

Ahora presiona ctrl+f y u donde dice “x-content/video” cambia la palabra “totem” por “vlc” en las 5 instancias que aparecen. Guardamos los cambios y cerramos.

Luego abre Nautilus y en Editar >> Preferencias >> Soportes, en laopción VideoDVD selecciona VLC.

It has even dropped behind Mplayer lately for me, but that's just my opinion. MPC is still a great multi-media player that you should consider.

The reason I dropped it in my rankings is because it doesn't play unfinished files or broken files. VLC shines in this area, but MPC has a better user interface. Mplayer with MPUI is a mix of both VLC and MPC in my opinion but it has had difficulty with many files thus I always fall back to VLC.

MPC is a simple player but you need a good codex pack to play files. I strongly suggest the CCCP codex pack. All other codex packages I've tried have had at least some problems with other software. get the CCCP package and it has MPC bundled. Just install it and you are ready to go.

The upside of having external codex is you can use other programs with those same codex files. I Really like VirtualDub for slitting or combining video files.

There really isn't much to say about MPC. It's a straight forward multi-media player without all the bells and whistles of Windows Media player. It uses more resources than VLC and Mplayer but is much better than Windows Media player.

Media Player Classic should be your pick if you don't need to play broken or unfinished files, you want a simple player, and you want external codex. Otherwise VLC is still king.

Mplayer is very similar to VLC however, it started off as a command line utility and has had gui interfaces developed to add onto it. I like the MPUI fronted version. I've tried Mplayer with other fronted guis but MPUI is the least resource intensive. It's very simple and doesn't have tons of features but it gets the job done. The SMplayer is a much richer gui. If you want bells and whistles go with the SMplayer.

At the Mplayer site you can find some builds that have several guis. I use one from mulder.com and it has worked well.

The only problem I have with Mplayer is, it has problems playing some files. I don't know what the reason is but many torrents that are in rar files aren't playable with Mplayer after they are un-packed. Then I have to use VLC. Makes me wonder why I have Mplayer. Well, I do like it a lot and with MPUI as the gui it is very low on resources and I like the simplicity of the interface.

However, if you only want one multi-media player then you need to stick with VLC.

Mplayer has tons of features. Since it was designed as a command line utility it does help to be a little proficient in that area. Those of use who are gui only will never touch most features. Mplayer is my #2 pick for multi-media players behind VLC.

Lo primero que deben hacer es descargarse el VLC por los que todavía no lo tienen solo tienen que pegar la siguiente linea en su terminal, no hay por que pelearse con los repo :)

Bien pues ahora deberán copiar si skin a la carpeta:

Esta carpeta se crea sola al reproducir por primera vez un archivo, o bien ustedes pueden crearla, solo recuerden que la carpeta estará oculta, para visualizarla solo basta un Ctrl + H ;)

Bien, vayan a su VLC y en Preferencias>>Interfaz>>Interfaces principales Activen la casilla Interfaz con piel

Bien ahora vayan a Preferencias>>Interfaz>>Interfaces principales>>Pieles y escrivan(con "v") la ruta de la skin.

No olviden marcar la casilla de Opciones Avanzadas jeje.

Reinician su VLC y en seguida podran observar su nueva skin.

I want to do a little review on VLC. Nothing great in this review. . . more of an FYI, really.

What is VideoLan VLC media player?

Well, it's a media player, obviously! Since this isn't a tutorial on VideoLan's VLC media player please don't be disappointed with the lack of details.

What I want to point out for people wondering about which media player to use for windows, linux, or mac. . . is that VLC is a cross platform media player. It will play all your media, and I do mean all, on any operating system.

I've tried tons of different players for DVDs, CDs, MP3s, etc. . . The one that always gets the job done is VLC! When other software can't open a file VLC can! This is a must have on every system. The simple fact is that it just works better than any other multi-media player. It will play everything including files that are broken or haven't finished downloading, few players do that.

Even more impressive is the low CPU usage. Now most people look at their CPU panel or something to see what percentage of CPU usage is being used by a program. Well, that's just one part. A major part for me, since I use a notebook most of the time, is how hard is my fan running and how often. The only other player that comes close to VLC in low cpu usage and actual less fan usage is Mplayer (I'll talk about that some other time).

The fan usage tells you a lot about what a program is actually doing. You can have very low percentage in the CPU panel but the fan could be running like a bat out of hell, that's not good. Many media players that I've tried, and I've tried them all, either use a lot of CPU power and/or cause the fan to run far too much. VLC doesn't use much cpu power and the fan comes on infrequently which tells me it's using little power.

What some may like and other may not like is that all the codex for the different file types are self contained in VLC. Some love this because it keep your system free form a slew of codex files. Others hate it because that means you will need to install a codex pack for just about any other player you use or conversion software. Therefore, you end up with "extra" files.

I'm a bit anal on keeping my computer clean and free of excess however, I don't really consider this a problem. It's only a few megabytes. Not a big deal and they are all contained in one folder.

How about VLC Features?

It has everything you can imagine. Seriously. There is so many features in VLC that most of us will never us one tenth. You can stream anything, play anything, and it has lots of little tweaks for users. You can skin it however, I suggest not doing that. That has always caused higher CPU usage.

Personally, I just use VLC to play my files. I've made a few custom setting for playing files like extra caching (chache) and shortcut keys but that's really about it.

What I would like for everyone to get out of this brief review is that, there simply isn't a better multi-media player around and this one is cross platform and free!!!! You may have a favorite player but when it won't play certain files VLC is the player you want. It's a real must have on any desktop!

Qualche settimana fa vi avevo parlato di Zattoo, l'eccezionale web tv peer-to-peer, che però non è ancora disponibile in Italia. Mi sa purtroppo che dovremo aspettare un bel po', prima che il nostro paese sia coperto. Intanto però, come segnalato da Sbis, l'autore di uno dei commenti all'articolo su Zatto, possiamo utilizzare StreamerOne, un ottima piattaforma di streaming peer-to-peer tutta italiana. Certo, il numero di canali è limitato rispetto a Zattoo, ma abbiamo comunque la possibilità di vedere: Rai Uno, Rai Due, Rai Tre, Canale5 ed Italia1. Insomma, le reti principali della Tv italiana. Per iniziare a guardarle, non dobbiamo fare altro che scaricare l'apposito programma, disponibile per Windows, Linux e Mac.

Installare StreamerOne Beta 0.3

-scaricate da qui la versione Gnu/Linux del programma

-scompattate l'archivio in una directory qualsiasi

-eseguite il file streamerone

-se all'avvio del programma il browser predefinito non parte, apritelo manualmente all'indirizzo: http://127.0.0.1:6777

Ora, non vi resta che aspettare il caricamento della lista dei canali. Ci mette un po' quindi non spazientitevi subito. Una volta caricata la lista, scegliete il canale che preferite. Nel caso non partisse, aprite il player specificando l'URL: http://127.0.0.1:6789/streameronemedia.wmv

Di default, StreamerOne utilizza Firefox come browser e MPlayer come player, se preferite qualche altro programma, aprite il file config.ini e in fondo, inserite alla voce player e browser i software che preferite, indicandone il percorso assoluto. Io ad esempio ho scelto Vlc.

Fact is, if VLC doesn't play it, nothing will. This is because, with the very rare exception of playback types which have been deliberately crippled, VLC taps into the sexy underbelly of open source software projects which are cunningly crafted to look at the data file you want to play and try to pretend to be the software the video prefers to play back in, without actually having to install any extra gunk on your PC.

This is a particular problem for clips you're not supposed to have, like TV programs you forget to record or watch when they were on which some kind soul has subsequently made available for you on BitTorrent.

Since many broadcasters don't own the rights to re-distribute content via the tubey-webs for more than, say, 10 days, sometimes to watch an older program you have no choice but to technically break the law and fetch it from a P2P network. Unfortunately, while certain hardware capture cards which take an input from an analogue TV source and turn these videos into a file which playback perfectly well on the machine which made them, other machines (like yours) which don't have that particular capture card manufacturer's software installed, simply give out an esoteric error message, about how the world is about to end if you don't install VidTits_not_a_worm_virus_honest.exe

This is where VLC steps in. It can save you hours of searching for freeware which recognises these obscure playback codecs. It will even make an attempt at rebuilding damaged or incomplete files so you needn't trash a file that's 99% completely downloaded, but which BitTorrent refuses to resume that last segment.

VLC is available for a whole bunch of different operating systems, but it comes into it's own on the Mac, as it'll think nothing of playing various file types wrapped in Windows Media Video as well as many of those strange AVI and MP4 clips of people falling off fast moving bikes and trains, which you have no idea why you keep, because you've already watched them a million times on YouTube and LiveLeak.

Downside: You need a good computer to playback certain High Definition clips.
Upside: Every time I think about Lucy, a dumb grin spreads across my face :)

Iba a poner un estracto aquí a modo de ejemplo de las alternativas que sugieren, pero mejor visiten su web, http://www.linuxalt.com y las verán todas.

Lo que sí voy a hacer es una lista de las alternativas con las que me he quedado yo, ahora que he desterrado windows (al menos en mi equipo personal). Los programas con los que me he quedado, en la mayor parte de los ejemplos de la lista los he elegido después de probar otros que no me llenaban del todo. Allá voy.

1. Windows <==> Ubuntu. Creo que ésta es la alternativa más importante de software, que todo el mundo sepa que puede usar otro sistema operativo bonito, bueno y gratis. Aunque lo correcto sería decir más bonito, más bueno y no solo no te llaman ladrón por descargartelo de internet, sino que te mandan gratis una copia a tu casa. A través de canonical.
2. Microsoft Office <==> Open Office. Puedes hacer en linux todo lo que en windows cuando hablamos de ofimática. Solo que si usas Open Office cumple mejor las normas de estandarización, y además, gratis :)
3. PhotoShop / Gimp para Windows <==> Gimp para linux. Bueno, al nivel que uso yo el Gimp (novato), lo veo muy facil de usar, de adquirir y tiene una potencialidad tremenda. Comparándolo con photoshop la verdad es que lo veo más sencillo de usar. Es un punto a su favor que venga integrado en el sistema operativo. La versión de gimp de linux va mejor que la de windows.
4. Notepad++ <==> Quanta+. Vale en éste gana windows :p estoy enamorado del notepad++, es el editor que uso desde hace unos años para programar. El que más me ha gustado de los seis o siete que probé en linux es el Quanta... Pero prefiero Notepad++. Notepad++ bien vale un inicio de sesión en windows :p Edito: Estoy probando el Scintilla, en el cual se basa el notepad++ y bueno, me va gustanto, lo mismo me acostumbro.
5. itunes <==> Amarok. Amarok es más ligero y más sencillo de usar que el itunes. Además como reproductor me gusta más. Eso sí, itunes tiene más opciones para resetear el ipod y tal.
6. Msn Messenger <==> Amsn. Es mucho más bonito que el Msn para mi gusto, no te empetan la pantalla con publicidad y tiene muchas opciones curiosas. Amsn desde las primeras versiones que probé hasta la actual ha mejorado una pasada.
7. eMule <==> aMule. Pues el mismo perro con distinto collar, lo poco que lo he usado me va igual de rápido que el emule.
8. WindowsMedia <==> VLC. Bueno, reproductores buenos los dos, el windows media me permite ver los subtitulos de las pelis y series que veo en versión original más fácil. Edito: Ahora usando el Kaffeine me van muy bien los subtitulos.

Voy a añadir los sugeridos por ustedes :)

1. Winamp XMMS/WindowsMedia <==> Winamp XMMS o Audacious. Pablo nos recomienda éstas alternativas en cuando a la reproducción de mp3, streaming de audio y mucho más. Sin duda habrá que probarlo.
2. Windows <==>Varias distribuciones de Linux. Synwenn tiene razón, muchas distribuciones de linux (debian, fedora, suse, ubuntu, knoppix) son una alternativa aceptable a windows.
3. emule <==> mlDonkey. También a sugerencia de Synwenn, con mlDonkey se pueden descargar desde diferentes fuentes (eDonkey2000, Overnet, BitTorrent, Gnutella), y todo desde una misma aplicación. Sin duda tendremos que probarlo :)

Me ha quedado un poco largo, pero es justo y necesario :) si tienen algo que aportar, comenten y añadiré elementos a la lista.

i've found two fantastic blogs today that i just feel compelled to share. both different, yet both very appealing reads. one thing that i see similar between them is that both authors just have this indescribable feel to their writing. it just feels so human, i wish i could write at the level they do.

one thing that i've always looked for is a really interesting blog written by guy my age, unfortunately i haven't found one. i feel like there are a lot of girls in high school writing blogs, but not many boys. it's probably something with the whole macho complex stage i seemed to skip. it's also pretty frustrating that whenever i search for gay on the wordpress blog search i end up with cheep amateur porn :-\. 

so one thing i realized today is that i've been in the same school district for ten. TEN years! my class actually isn't that big, roughly about 240 students. there are still people that i'm fascinated by, that i've never met, but really want to. plus other people in other grades. i think i need to stop limiting myself by the rules others have set out (the invisible web of lies and rumors that separates us all from one another). there are a bunch of people i would really love to get to know.

there's this one girl i was friendly with as a tot in elementary school, but lost touch with. now some people don't like her, but i find her fascinating. she's so nice, i'm so glad i've started to get to know her a bit more this year. she's not at all who i thought she was, or expected her to be. i love when that happens, when you realize that you've assigned certain things to someone, and they prove you wrong. i think we all do it sometimes, where we dismiss a person. i'm really trying to change how i approach meeting people, i think it makes all the difference going into something with an open mind.

anyways lets talk about what's in my dock!

• finder - the finder in leopard is amazing, fast, cute effective 'nuff said.
• dashboard - it launches me into widget world!
• safari - the savanna navigator that seems to never keep me on track, that i love anyways
• firefox 3 beta 5 - my standards complient browser friend, i can't wait until firefox 3 is released! :)
• mail - i always said that i would never use a desktop mail client: i evidently lied. i use the to-do a lot too.
• adium - with my custom yoda icon and design (i made part of the theme) adium keeps me connected in my style
• joost - alas an old friend. i watched many a episodes of jericho on joost.
• handbrake - sans ugly pineapple icon handbrake helps me copy dvd's into movie files for iPod or MacBook :)
• songbird - an interesting concept: itunes like music management built on firefox code, works like a browser, intergrates well with everything, and pretty. i'll switch when itunes annoys me too much...
• itunes - a bloated, un-featured whore.
• veoh player - plays/downloads videos from veoh for me. also pretty.
• vlc - god of media players, plays anything. i mean anything.
• pixelmator - a fantastic image editor
• photobooth - good times with my mac :)
• burn - a free cd burning program, data and music (for when i'm not on speaking terms with itunes). 
• audacity - a free cross-platform audio editor that i adore.
• imovie oh eight - love/hate relationship
• pages - best full featured word processor ever. kicks word butt!
• textedit - my text scratch pad for everything, notes copy paste etc
• bean - a text editor that goes full screen. i write my blog here now, and copy into the box in wp :)

it's only wednesday and i must make it to friday. i hope to be back soon! a special shout out to cindy, who is a wonderful friend flying 1,845 miles this summer to visit old friends. cindy, i love you, and you can't get here fast enough!

I recently upgraded to Leopard. It only took me almost a year to get around to doing it, yet I was still stoked about using the latest and greatest. I had to make the decision—Archive and Install or Fresh Install. After the first go around, I realized that my Tiger install was bloatted with apps. So I took the plunge. I backed up what files I could and decided to do a fresh install.

This go around I desperately needed to limit the number of applications to the essential applications that I couldn't live without.  The following is a carefully considered list of the the third party applications that make me a happy mac user.

Quicksilver

I didn't understand the power of this little app at first, but after digging through, watching video, and customizing some things, I've come to find that it's indispensable to me. I use it mostly as an application launcher but Quicksilver is so much more.

Firefox

This one's a no-brainer. Firefox just has so many useful extension it's painful for me that it's just more useful on an everyday basis than Safari (Sorry, Jobso). I know, you say, Safari is faster. I've found that Safari is indeed much faster than my Firefox 2.0 for the Mac. However, I've been revving up Firefox 3 Beta 5 and it's almost as fast. And it has those handy dandy add-ons. Plus, the star bookmarking just deads Safari. Damn you, Mozilla. Damn you.

MacTheRipper

DVD ripping software at its simplest. In best Samuel L. Jackson voice "Yes, they deserved to be ripped and I hope they burn in hell!

Unison

I'm a little slow. It only took me like 10 years for usenet and newsgroups to catch on. I use Giganews for bandwidth, Newzleech to find nzb files and Unison as a newsreader. Unison is THE newsreader for Mac. If none of this makes sense, head over here.

Perian

Don't get me wrong, VLC is great. Why use it if there's a pre-installed application in Leopard that can play most vids, with a little help. That's where Perian comes in. Install this and you're stock Quicktime application gets an engine upgrade, racing stripes and fat custom tires. You can play FLV, Divx, H.264 and most AVI formats. Add Flip4Mac to the equation also and you can leverage Windows Media (WMV) also.

Miro

Mrs.funkdigi and I dropped our Dish Network service. It was becoming a beast and in these days of economic slowdown, paying for a service that's not ala carte (the way things should be), I couldn't see paying over $120 for TV I wasn't watching. I found out about Miro (formerly Democracy) and soon nixed satellite. Miro offers tons of content, like Joost, put has the added benefit of torrent integration. With Tv Rss I'm able to access only the shows I'm interested in.

Remote Desktop for Mac

On Tiger, I was using Parallels as a crutch. Parallels is a superb virtual machine product and coming from my Dell, I thought I'd find that I wasn't able to get things done with just my Mac. So, I had Parallels as a backup in case I couldn't do something on a Mac that I used to be able to do on my PC. Well, as I'm sure many of you Mac users already know, that wasn't the case. During the time, I needed to Remote into my office machine if I happened to work at home. I found Remote Desktop for Mac (a Microsoft product LOL) and ditched Parallels.

iSquint

iSquint is a simple video converter that lets you compress video to a size suitable to you iPod or iPhone. It's fast, has a small app footprint, and its reliable. It also can automatically add the converted file to your iTunes library. Battlestar Galactica on the subway. Rejoice!

The UnArchiver

A quick and dirty zip, rar, etc. unarchive tool. Again, nice and small.

iLife

I know, it's beast sized. There are other applications that can be used to substitute just about every app in iLife. Oh, and it's pricey. I tried my best not to reinstall, but wifey wan't to use a slideshow for our re-wedding and I also need to edit a track to loop a couple bars of D'Angelo's Higher. I found myself wanting to use iLife again because it is so well integrated into Leopard and just easy to use. So I'll do the slideshow with iPhoto, burn the DVD with iDVD and use Garageband to create the instrumental. *shrugs*

Yang lebih menyenangkan, Streamtuner dapat dilengkapi dengan 'streamripper' untuk me-'record' (download) tiap lagu yang sedang dimainkan ke format mp3!

Untuk instalasi di Ubuntu, misalnya, gunakan Synaptic atau ketik di Terminal:

sudo apt-get install streamtuner streamripper vlc

Sebelum dipakai, atur dulu setingannya di Edit>Preferences>Applications, lalu di bagian Command, ubah kata 'xmms' dan 'realplayer' menjadi 'vlc.

Operativamente, non dovete far altro che andare sul sito dove volete vedere il video in streaming, copiare l'indirizzo del video (potete cliccare col tasto destro su di esso, selezionare Proprietà, e poi copiare l'indirizzo), inserirlo nel programma sotto la scritta URL, selezionare una destinazione per il file *.asf e avviare la registrazione. Esiste anche una funzione che vi permette di programmare la vostra registrazione, fissando orario di inizio e fine, e di spegnere il pc alla fine della registrazione. Tutto sommato, funziona molto bene!

Si quieres convertir el reproductor de medios VLC en el reproductor de DVDs predeterminado del sistema (Hardy Heron), simplemente sigue los siguientes pasos:

Escribe en el terminal:

$ sudo gedit /etc/gnome/defaults.list

Una vez abierto gEdit usa el atajo "ctrl+f" y escribe "x-content/video" (sin las comillas) y búscalo. Una vez encontrado, cambia totem por vlc (como ves en la imagen de abajo) en las 5 lineas.

Guarda y cierra. Ahora abre Nautilus y entra en; Editar > Preferencias > Soportes, y en Video DVD (en Gestión de soporte) selecciona VLC media player.

Para los nuevos usuarios de Linux, Ubuntu se ha convertido en la más popular de las distribuciones . Es fácil de instalar, de utilizar, por lo general podemos decir ya que "sólo funciona".
Sin embargo, pasar de un sistema operativo a otro puede ser confuso y crear problemas, sin importar lo bien diseñado que esté el SO, como es el caso de Ubuntu. Precisamente en ese sentido va la primera de una lista de 10 sugerencias a considerar mientras nos acostumbramos a Ubuntu.

El trabajo multimedia

Por defecto al instalar Ubuntu el sistema sólo contiene software libre, lo que de entrada significa que no es compatible con los formatos multimedia más populares.
A pesar de que esto es un inconveniente en primera instancia, de la mano de Internet encontramos solución a cada uno de estos "inconvenientes", de modo que reproducir diferentes formatos no es un problema en Ubuntu.
Un primer paso es instalar los diferentes códecs de audio, incluyendo los de tipo MP3, que no es libre, y formatos como WMA (Windows Media Audio), así como un formato que es muy común para escuchar radio por Internet, Real Audio.
En ficheros de vídeo, la lista similar: es decir los formatos más usados son del tipo MPEG: MPEG-2 (usado en fvídeos en DVD) y MPEG-4 (con códecs como, Xvid y MS-MPEG de Microsoft). En este caso, nuevamente, Microsoft tiene dos formatos privativos: WMV (Windows Media Video) y ASF para reproducción por Internet. Para flujos de vídeo por Internet el formato más común es Real Video. Por fortuna, existe otro formato, Ogg Theora, muy poco conocido, pero con la ventaja de ser libre, al igual que el códec Xvid.
La solución es instalar códecs de sistemas privativos. Antes de llevar a cabo esta instalación, deben estar activados los repositorios universe y multiverse. Tip para activarlos por acá.
Para usar MPlayer, basta instalar el paquete mplayer. Para usar VLC, el paquete vlc.
En la nueva versión de Ubuntu 7.10. Para instalar los codecs multimedia incluyendo Java, se puede bajar desde los repositorios oficiales de Ubuntu.
Para poder reproducir archivos multimedia en formato propietario, mediante motores como MPlayer, Xine o GStreamer, debemos instalar los códecs necesarios, que se encuentran agrupados en el paquete w32codecs..
Al no ser códecs libres, su distribución no está permitida en Ubuntu y, por tanto, para instalar este paquete debemos optar por otras vías, siendo una de las más sencillas Automatix o programas similares, como EasyUbuntu. En estos caso de manera totalmente gráfica y con algunos clics logramos instalar los paquetes necesarios.
Otra opción es ir a webs que almacenan software en paquetes .deb, y bajar las aplicaciones correpondientes a vídeo y audio, con las cuales, incluso, podremos ripear DVD´s y quemarlos al más puro estilo de programas nativos de Windows.
Por último, como se explica en Tuxapuntes: si quieres solucionar y tener tu UBUNTU 7.10, con los códecs, arreglados al 100 %, sigue estas instrucciones:

Curioso es que Compiz Fusion, que por defecto viene en Ubuntu, esté en los primeros lugares. También es de notar que Wine y Wine-doors sean de las aplicaciones mas descargadas de esa web, evidentemente porque ayudan a correr programas que son utilizados de modo nativo en Windows.
Por lo demás queda claro que muchas de las cosas que un usuario normal de computadoras hace: chatear, ver vídeos, escuchar música, navegar sin problemas, bajar música, series, vídeos y demás actividades análogas, son las aplicaciones que tienen mayor demanda en ese sitio, lo que nos da una idea de que el sofftware libre cada día va ganando más espacio, gracias a distribuciones fáciles de instalar y amigables con los usuarios, como es el caso de Ubuntu.

What is strange about this?? well if you use the SetConfigVariable to set the sub-filter=marq this will fail also if you put the setConfigVariable commands in the opts they will fail.  This was the only way i could get the desired behavior.
