Psalm 9:1

I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.

Thanks so much for your prayers for Gage and our family this week as he started kindergarten. I'm so thankful that the Lord chose to answer those prayers above and beyond what we could have imagined. Gage went to school Monday morning without complaint or much apprehension. He was able to stay the full day each day and participate in all that his class did, including gym. He also felt comfortable telling his teacher when he was tired or when his legs hurt...as well as communicating to his gym coaches that he was concerned someone would bump into him where his port is implanted in his side.

On Wednesday, Blake and I visited Gage's class along with one of his favorite nurses from Children's. The three of us spent time talking with his classmates about Gage's leukemia, why he will miss school often, why he might be more tired at times, how important it is for them to wash their hands, why they should tell the teacher if they're not feeling well...and how brave Gage has been during his treatment, receiving finger poke blood draws weekly and countless "medicine shots" in his port, thighs, arm and spine. Not surprisingly, many of the kids wanted to share that they've had stitches, been to the hospital when a sibling was born or had also been poked by a needle before. So cute...

When Avery and Gage got home that day, Avery wanted to know how the sharing had gone in Gage's class. Her question to him: "Gage, were there lots of ooohs and ahhhs?" Again, a funny moment in the middle of a week that still seems surreal at times.

And, there was a picture perfect moment this week that I didn't catch with my camera. After our visit to Gage's class, we walked with them to the playground. After a few minutes, we told Gage it was time for us to go. Instead of running to us for a long, sad, clingy hug (which would have been totally understandable), he ran off to join his friends and barely looked over his shoulder to give us a half-wave and a very quick "Bye!"

So, although I know all weeks won't be as smooth as this one was, it was pure joy to watch him get to just be a kid. And, it was a great affirmation for me that he is ready to return to school.

Today (Friday) Gage did miss school because of a scheduled clinic visit (normally Monday, but moved because of Labor Day). He did a breathing treatment, got chemo in his port and started a week of twice-daily steroids. (For those of you new to our story, you can see more about the breathing treatment here and more about life on steroids here).

And...now we're ready to enjoy the long weekend with all the kids at home. It's been such an encouraging week, and we truly believe your prayers have made a difference in our lives. Please pray for Gage and the girls this week as we begin a round of steroids with all the usual challenges that brings.

Have a great Labor Day, and thanks for checking in.

I wouldn’t say I am busy. I am just super occupied with my studies with many tasks to complete

I wouldn't say I am busy. I am just super occupied with my studies with many tasks to complete. i would say this is peak of the semester. pls pray for me as i battle with a series of tests. so far i had three tests already. I would say I am doing okay. one got 19/21 and the other 17/30. the recent one it took me by surprise by a 22.25/30. I was praying for >20 and God gave me more. He honoured me :) i honestly must say I have put in ALOT of effort in studying and making the most of my school fees. for two weekends already, i haven't been out other than school and church. on the off days i get like fri and sat, i will study or go for extra classes.

i want to say something about UQ or rather if you are considering studying in AUS, i feel the same sentiments as my friends in UQ as we were talking about it that day. i would say its pretty different from what i have experienced back in NP. the perception of aussie uni is easier is the total opposite if you are expecting to find the easier way out. prob like any other unis, they are very fast paced in their lectures and tuts. its like whether you unstd it or not, it's not their priority as long they get the lec and tut through. if you don't unstd, jus attend other classes or more workshops - that is the reason for the MANY resources and facilities- you are suppose to do ALOT of independent learning.

example i can think of is the assignment or project you need to do. depending on the lecturer but most of them are not that kind. they just announce it on the first lec (they never ever mention it anymore) that you have to do this project or something and simply ask you to read the course profile. yea, the course profile is like the manual to do the subject. they really make it sound as if everything is in there. if it's not, check out Blackboard. if you are expecting for some sort of materials, you won't get any. if you want the benefit, you have to put in effort to find out. some of my friends got their assignment, they were just given the ques and nothing else-find the resources yourself. lucky for me, this only project i have, the lecturer is more kind- still we had to find out many things ourselves. oh wells.

Tut classes. it's amazing that i found out that my tutor is actually a student in UQ. or at least to them, it's a very common thing. the thing about tut classes here, you don't have to go to the class you sign on for-you can go for any classes. i actually switched one of my class because the tut kinda is BAD. lol. you won't want to know how bad the tut is esp from certain countries. which make me wonder, the school fees i am paying...how much that is worth...

there is alot about them in their culture in which i have gotten to learn- the aussie culture. sometimes i find it kinda amazing. but i am glad for the exposure. it will and has widen my knowledge. I am still learning.

and meanwhile, pls keep me in prayers. the tests and project gets me stressed out. really stress.

06/09- Statistics

13/09- Financial Reporting

15/09- Mgt of Financial Inst.

16/09- Fin. Mgt (a freaking 6 chapters of 35%. really crap!!)

till then, hugs and misses from aussie:)

Good evening all, I am Alabama Pitty, your eye in the sky for most things AQ-related. I won't be replacing Masta Bro. But I will be the main blogger for AQ now. Masta Bro will focus on AQW and giving second opinions and stuff like that. -Chickencowlord

OK, enough with the greetings, let's get started!

The new dragon war (Yes, I know I'm late, but this will suffice until I complete the 'King of the Mutants!' quest) was good, as far as dragon wars go.

Needless to say, some people complained since it wasn't the best gold-farming spot, but oh well. It was actually more innovative than other wars, in that in order to heal, you didn't ask Twilly, you had to use the fountain, which prevented war abuse.

The boss gave a dose of something much needed: difficulty. Drako was a very tough opponent, which I like. The war rewards were also very good. Not as effective now, but post-Sweep, they will definintely pick up importance. They switch the dragons defenses! What's not to love?

So, overall, I would give this war a... 7.5/10. I have to deduct points for the fact that it is a dragon war. That has been done quite a few times before. So, there you go! Have a nice day!

Our girls went to GaRak high school to perfom...Overall, it was a fail. During kissing you + babybay...fans were pushing each other and many people fell and got hurt. Some non fan shouted "this is why DC happened" + "Soshi fans are idiots"...In other words, it was a complete chaos. As the situation exacerbated, our girls were worried. Some fans said, "Sunny had this depressing look..." Anyways, due to chaos, they had to stop the performance; our girls went back in while the MC tried to pacify the wild crowd. Few moments later, our girls came back to peform GG and it was much better. However, many people kept pushing each other. As a result, some people left.

you can see that sunny was worried...

I edited some parts out. But yea....ugh T_T

There was another performance at GyungBok high school. Overall, everything went smoothly. Although there were some rude fans, who stood up and blocked people's view, majority of the fans behaved; unlike some fans at Garak who went berserk.

Thank goodness, at least this one was little bit peaceful.

• . . .That the Okinawan Festival is organized and run by an army of over 2,000 volunteers from the HUOA’s 48 member-clubs and their extended ‘ohana of Uchinanchu and Uchinanchu-at-heart?
• . . . That during the two-day festival, volunteers will cook up over 112,000 andagi? Holy andagi, Batman!

CULTURAL TENT

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE OKINAWAN CULTURE

The Hui O Laulima women’s group is once again spearheading activities in the Festival’s Cultural Tent. Make sure you spend some time soaking up other aspects of Okinawan culture.

NEW THIS YEAR . . .
• Hot off the press, Hui O Laulima’s new culture/cookbook, “Chimugukuru: The Soul, The Spirit, The Heart/Okinawan Mixed Plate II: Generous Servings of Culture, Customs and Cuisine,” will be available for purchase in the Cultural Tent for $23. (See Gwen Battad Ishikawa’s story on Page ___ for more information on the book). Preordered books can also be picked up, but you must present your receipt in order to redeem your book.

• Jay Iwanaga will demonstrate the art of taiko-making; also check out his taiko exhibit.

ALSO IN THE CULTURAL TENT . . .
• Uchinäguchi (Okinawan language): “Haisai! (Howzit!).” “Mensoree! (Welcome!)” Laminated bookmarks featuring popular Okinawan words and phrases will be available for purchase so that you can continue to practice the new words you learned.

• Okinawan artifacts: Okinawa’s unique ceramics, glassware, lacquerware and textiles will be on display.

• Dressing and Picture-taking: If you’re looking for the perfect photo for your family’s Holiday card, here’s a great idea. Get dressed up as a paranku drummer and/or in a traditional bingata kimono with a hanagasa headpiece and have a professional photo taken by David Shimabukuro of One Moment In Time Photography. Dress-up and picture-taking times are Saturday and Sunday, 9 to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
Cost: 8” x 10” color photo: starting at $25 (photos can be paid for with either cash or scrips). (???)

• Okinawan Genealogical Society of Hawaii members will provide information on how you can trace your genealogy. They ask that you come prepared with your family’s kanji.

• Calligraphy display and demonstration: Calligraphy writing of your family name will be available for purchase.

• Photo display of children participating in Okinawan cultural activities at the Hawaii United Okinawa Association’s Children’s Day Camp.

• Display of bonsai and silent auction of bonsai plants by the Hawaii Bonsai Association.

• Hands-on activities for children provided by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i.

COME PREPARED TO GRIND

Some people love the Okinawan Festival because of the music and colorful dances; others are drawn to the Cultural Tent. But everyone comes to eat! Andagi . . . Champuru . . . Andamisu . . . Tumai kuru . . . Ashitibichi — it’s Okinawan “comfort food” — and downright mäsan (Okinawan for ‘ono!). Make sure you sample everything at this year’s Okinawan Festival . . . starting with everyone’s favorite: andagi!
*Note: Food booth hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except for Okinawa Soba and Andagi, due to the bon dance) on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

• Andagi: The andagi, or Okinawan doughnut, is the Festival’s No. 1 favorite. Basic doughnut ingredients — sugar, flour, milk and eggs — are mixed into a batter and deep-fried in hot oil. The hand “dropping” of evenly rounded scoops of batter into the hot oil is a show in itself. Three andagi per package.

• Andadog: Andagi and hotdog all in one! The Andadog is the Okinawan version of the corndog. Half a hotdog on a stick is dipped into andagi batter and deep fried.

• Pig’s Feet Soup: It’s called ashitibichi or tibichi in Uchinaaguchi (Okinawan language). Chunks of pig’s feet are cooked in a delicious soup stock, garnished with konbu (seaweed), daikon (radish), togan (squash) and mustard cabbage and served with rice. Mmmmmm . . . ‘ono! — even on a hot summer day!

• Okinawa Soba: Okinawa-style soba noodles served in hot soup and garnished with kamaboko (fishcake), shoyu pork, green onions and red ginger.

• Yaki Soba: Okinawa-style soba noodles stir-fried in huge woks with vegetables and luncheon meat and seasoned with a special sauce.

• Champuru Plate: If you love Okinawan food, you’ll love this very healthy Okinawan plate prepared champuru style — a stir-fried mixture of vegetables, luncheon meat and agedofu (deep-fried tofu) — served with a delicious slice of shoyu pork, a teaspoon of andamisu (pork and miso mixture) and rice.

• Okidog: A hotdog and chili are wrapped in a soft tortilla with shredded shoyu pork and lettuce.

• Chili Choices: Enjoy a plate of chili with a hotdog on rice, or just a bowl of chili and rice.

• Laulau Plate: Laulau with rice and lomi lomi salmon.

• Chicken Plate: Barbecue chicken prepared local style and served with rice and corn, or just chicken in a carry-out bag.

• Tumai Kuru: Tumai kuru is the purple sweet potato that found its way to Hawaii from China by way of Okinawa. In Okinawa, it was a staple food that sustained the people through good times and bad. During Okinawa’s harsh typhoons, the potato remained protected underground. The tumai kuru served at the Festival will be steamed, making for a healthy snack.

• Maki sushi: Sushi rolled in nori (seaweed) and sliced for easy eating.

• Shave Ice: The perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day.

• Beverages:
Canned juice
Chilled bottled soda, iced tea and water
Coffee

SATURDAY NIGHT BON DANCE GRINDS
The Okinawa Soba and Andagi booths will remain open until 8 p.m., serving:
• Okinawa Soba
• Andagi
• Maki sushi
• Chilled bottled water, soda and iced tea

I attended the PGA show recently in Las Vegas along with Magic and Project. Apparently, out of all these shows, the product above literally "stood out" in my mind as the most memorable item I saw during the week.

Strictly for male golfers, this club is the only club "..guaranteed to keep you out of the wood." - Matco Enterprises. Another guarantee that they should mention is the fact that nobody will be using your "uroclub". I know sharing is caring. But under these "sticky" circumstances, I'll use my own clubs.

So in case you still haven't figured it out yet, this club is for male golfers who need to relieve some excess water during the course of the game. Rather then going in the woods, you can just use this nifty towel along with your masterful aim and dispense urine into the tube container on the club. Please reference pic below.

Nike should sponsor this club. It sure brings a whole new meaning to "Swoosh". That's the sound you'll be making when you're swinging with this club. I'm not talking about the swing speed either.

Don't forget there is NO CHURCH this Sunday at Element Church. To give ALL of our very hardworking volunteers a complete Sunday off we are taking Labor Day weekend off. PLEASE don't use this as an excuse to not go to church anywhere. I encourage you to attend church with a friend or family member to support them and their ministry. Attend a church maybe that you normally wouldn't attend. Or go check out a church you've heard good things about but haven't got to go to. We're firing up a new series that I am COMPLETELY stoked about next week called LOST. Then we hit our one year anniversary Sunday and trust me, you WON'T want to miss that Sunday! Alright, have a great Labor Day weekend. We'll see you all on the other side.

Here are some newer pictures of my classroom as it gets a little more "used". I have also included pictures of my Literacy Work Stations pocket chart (with pictures that I made) so you can see those. I cannot post those pictures because I used a program that I purchased for my computer and the images won't upload, but at least you can see what you could use.

I stumbled, literally, across this site:

Brendan is Teaching

You have to be logged in to browse and download and you gain credits for download by uploading your own stuff - but found some really nifty stuff!

I recommend a look!
