So, last night, I installed Visual Basic. Great news, right?

So, last night, I installed Visual Basic. Great news, right?
Other than I have no idea how it works. I wrote up the code, but I don't know how to compile it. Which stinks, because I kinda need to know that in order to be able to do the assignments.
I still don't know, even after my friend Brett tried to help.
Right now, however, I am in the "introduction to visual basic" thing that came on the CD that came with my textbook, which seems like it has step-by-step on how to do it. So hopefully....You get the picture.
Anyway, that's that.

Next topic.

I'm finally getting better from being sick. Slight cough left, and that's about it. YAY!

Today is National (and international) Coming Out Day.
Just thought I'd share.
Started in 1988, sort of commemorates the first Gay Pride Parade thing, if I remember what I read correctly.
Um, anyway, that's sort of important, I suppose. I mean it is, but since I'm as out as I can be at the moment, or desire to be anyway, it doesn't apply to me. If I was out of my parents' house and had a way to go somewhere, I'd go show my "pride" out somewhere (where isn't important).

I did however have a good idea yesterday afternoon. But it's more of the same, so I won't go there.

And, I did decide that I need a life.
Like, all this Human Rights stuff is great and all, and I'm so behind it, 100% but I do need other things to talk about, I suppose.
Other things to DO. You see what I mean?

I'm still awesome. I've been awesome-y feeling since Monday afternoon. Thursday was my catching point. That was the one, you know, staying at school for forever. Ya that afternoon wasn't all that nice, no. But the rest of it was good.

Oh, and um, I took a quick break, sorry.
AND....figured out how to use visual basic. Damn thing, is so finicky, I guess. BUT IT WORKS NOW, so that's all that matters, I suppose.
Then again, that DOES mean I will have to do my homework.
GRRRRrr to homework.
Oh well.

It was cool when it worked. Other than I can't get the answer to stay up for some reason. It likes to disappear when it's finished and I don't know why.
Oh, well that time it worked.
*HAPPY DANCE*

That is exciting news, because it WORKED damn it!
Now I must play with it.
And then do homework.
Or play AND do homework.
I like that idea better.
BUT I'M NOT KILLING BIRDS, OKAY!!!!

Okay, I’ve been realizing that for the past few posts, I’ve been beginning with, “

Okay, I've been realizing that for the past few posts, I've been beginning with, "I'm SOOOO sorry I haven't been on for a few days." Since I get like... less than 3 readers everyday, I'm just going to put up a post once a week or so.

Well, something major is happening, my friends:

I [think i] GOT A JOB!!!!

Now, I've heard about people getting fired for actually talking about where they work on the internet, so I'm not going to say the name of the store (until later maybe).

Anyway, Wednesday night, I went into, let's just say... The Science Shoppe (my chemistry textbook is on the floor, in case you're wondering where that name came from), and I picked up an application. I filled it out the next morning, and I went back to the store that night.

When my dad pulled up to TSS (ACRONYMS!!!), he said, "I don't want you to just drop it off and leave. Go in and ask if you can talk to a manager." So, I walked in, went up to the nearest register, and told the cashier I had an application, but I really wanted to introduce myself to a manager in person. The cashier grabbed the walkie-talkie and call the manager over. It took about 5 or 6 minutes for her to arrive. When, let's call her... Dilberta (the comics are on the table) arrived, I introduced myself and gave her my application.

AND THEN SHE STARTED TALKING SO QUICKLY!!!! I could barely follow her. The whole time, I was waiting to sneak in the question, "So, how are the hours like?" But she was on a roll and I was just like, "S-... So-... S-... So, hah-...". And whenever she asked me a question, it took me like 5 seconds to respond, which in restrospect doesn't seem to bad, but at the rate she was talking, was as slow as a frickin' tortoise! But here's the kicker...

She asked me if I had my working papers on me, and I said, "... ... No." SO , Dilberta said, "Well, bring them here, I'll sign them. Then you have to take it to your doctor, then to your school for your blue card. And when you get that, come back here." We shook hands again, and I left to go back to my dad's car.

When I got to the car, my dad said, sarcastically, "Well, you must have gotten the job, you were in there for such a long time." Then I was like, "Well, she told me to bring in my working papers so she could sign them, and that when I get my blue card, I should come back to see her."

"That's great!" he said, non-sarcastically.

Soooo, I'm a little confused. Do I have a job? 'Cause I brought the papers back to her and she signed them under where it says, "Name of Employer". It's all kinda surreal, and it happened so quickly.

Anyway, The Science Shoppe seems like a good place to work. Dilberta, though a fast talker, was really nice. And every else who works there is my age or older. And I haven't seen or heard about anyone from my school working there. And it's retail, not fast food. And all we have to do is wear vests for our uniform.

So, if I do work there, which I think I will be, I'm pretty sure Ill like it! :)

2 Redheaded Sluts

2 shots of Bombay Sapphire

I went to karaoke and played some pool. Went to R Pizza for some yummy pepperoni.

The pub was fucking packed, but I needed to somewhat take a day off. I headed home at a decent time. ;)

Last night my brother put together the "Fall Classic", it was an event meant to really bring folks together and keep the entertainment going throughout autumn in a kewl, chill kinda way. It allowed folks to meet others for the first time or see each other again. My dear cousins Mike & Ric stopped on by along with C. and M. My friends Tun and Karl trooped from their respective locations and James and Pat evened out the environment with their presence. You know how I do, Kekah, T and Ken with homegirl FENA were in this as well. We chit-chatted but mostly CRACKED UP...not laughed but CRACKED UP for the majority of the night. I think I was serenade "Killing me softly" by Francesca and 'Em featuring Solz as Fake-praswell and we were also entertained by what seemed like "regulars" at the karaoke area. Some could sing and others.....wellllll lets just say he was acting the opposite of the name of the location. lol Anyway my bro bought me an ICE CREAM CAKE!!!! I love ice cream cake! Some of us ended the night with some friendly games of pool.. Pat and I won the very last game of the night.. I shot the 8 ball side pocket:) Dag, I didn't take a pic of it! Anyway.. enjoy some pics below. And to all who came out last night... an Encore is called for...there's this spot called the C----- (don't want the world to know lol) we godda check it out!

...students in Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, 5th band, and middle school band met for classes. K did not come to class, as they were on a field trip to Greenbluff.

Pre-K: learned about notes, especially our friend, Quarter Note. His favorite word is "walk" (which is how many counts he gets - 1). He is a black circle with a stem on the right side going up. When the stem is on the left, it points down. Students continued playing high/low notes on Orff xylophones, this time, reading quarter notes with stems pointing up (for high notes) and down for (low notes).

1st: learned the terms forte (loud, strong) and piano (soft, quiet) and sang "Cotton-Eyed Joe" using the proper dynamics (which were changed every four repetitions); to keep the children from getting tired of singing the song over 20 times, the students had to listen very carefully for the name that I subbed for "Joe." The student whose name was called shared where s/he went for summer vacation. Students should recognize the words forte/piano and their abbreviations (f/p). Students were asked to compare/contrast "Cotton-Eyed Joe" to other lullabies we have sung, and to chose the best dynamic for a lullaby.

2nd: learned that music moves up and down. We sang the song "Let's Go Fly a Kite" and showed the movement of notes with our hands and with ribbon sticks. Students identified phrases in the music where notes rose steadily, where notes made the largest jump, and where notes stayed the same. Students were encouraged to be creative with how they showed the up/down movement of music. In addition to moving up/down with this piece, students were asked to move to other pieces (such as "Awesome God," and "Happy Birthday").

5th band: learned how to transpose notes for clarinet/trumpet and alto sax.

MS band: continued with our refinement of "Shine, Jesus, Shine." Students should practice the music through measure 48. Please remember to play slowly and THEN work your way to a faster tempo. It takes more discipline to play slowly - it truly pays off in the end. We don't want to sound like mush!

GENERAL NOTES: Mrs. C will not be in town Wed 10/15-Wed 10/22. Her music classes have been moved to ensure that students do not miss a class. She will, therefore, teach her regularly scheduled classes on Monday, and on Tuesday, she will teach her Thursday classes. The week following, her Thursday classes will meet as scheduled, and her Monday classes will meet on Friday. MS BAND WILL HAVE STUDY HALL ON THURSDAY 10/16 and MONDAY 10/20; no, you are not excused from completing your practice chart! ;-)

My grandmother was sprinkled at sea. A very good (and illegal) way to go, I thought. But that was my grandma: a smoker of "medical" marijuana till the day she died and a law breaker in death. I love death. Not in a morbid way, I hope, but in a normal, fatalistic way. I'm going to die and that's okay. I think my deathly obsession may spawn from my fascination with funerals and with cemeteries.

I once planned my own funeral. I knew the music (an amalgamation of my eclectic taste: The Beatles, Radiohead, Elton John, The Sound of Music), the flowers (a healthy mix of anything yellow), the location (a museum), and the speakers (family and friends, maybe a student I had an impact on). But I paused at my eulogy. Who would write it? Who would shrink the aspects of my lifetime into a brief speech? After deliberating, I decided that I wanted to be the one to write my eulogy. I have been so committed for so long to only showing certain parts of myself that the thought of someone else displaying my true self in my wake bothers me.

And that's when I realized that all of that planning is me attempting to micro-manage my public persona, even in death. I must be a control freak.

But no matter. All you lifelong friends listen up!

My funeral will not be a time for mourning, but rather a celebration of life and of love. There will be a cemetery, of course, but there will be no burial (I choose to go out as my grandma did, minus, most-likely, the marijuana.) Instead, my loved ones will visit a cemetery and enjoy it, Erin-style. How would one go about doing that? I'm so glad you asked...

Pick a cemetery, preferably one where more than 20 people are buried.

Visit the website or give the cemetery receptionist (a much more lively person than you would think) a call and find out if there is listed information about the buried. If yes, proceed to step three. If no, go back to step one.

Study the list and make your own of the people that you would like to visit.

Stop by your local flower shop and purchase a bouquet of flowers. One flower will go to each person visited, so try to avoid the tempting offer to have your selection "bundled for no extra cost."

Once at the cemetery, get your hands on the "plot map" and start your rotation of the dead.

The following steps apply for each grave visited:

Greet the departed.

Read the headstone aloud. Is this person a parent? A husband/wife? How old did he/she live to be? Are there any interesting quotes?

Read the information you previously acquired from the Internet or receptionist about this person.

Look around at the surrounding graves to determine whether this person was buried alone or amongst his/her loved ones.

Use your imagination. This is the best part, so don't spoil it! Consider everything you now know about this person and give them a life. Give them character and quirks and careers and dreams. Give them a life and a death and a reason for making this cemetery, your cemetery, their final resting place.

Pick a flower from your un-bundled bouquet and place it on the grave. If you are ambitious and wish to truly do it Erin-style, you will consider all of the flowers you hold in your hands and pick the one that is right for him/her. Flowers are like snowflakes, after all: No two are the same. Perhaps a full bloom is a reflection of a lived life. Or a crinkled edge shows a gruesome death. Chances are, you will know it immediately because of the intimate relationship you have now built with a complete stranger.

Wish your new friend a good afterlife. This step will vary depending on the religious beliefs of the visitor.

Move on to your next awaiting friend.

As a side note, a visit to the cemetery is much more enjoyable when alone or with someone you consider "special" and can be done at any time, not just after my death.

So there they are. My funeral arangements. At least I know that if I were to die today, someone would know my wishes and would hopefully fulfill them with close accuracy...don't forget that I'm a control freak.

I am Erin Hoover, by the by. I will be writing to you on Thursdays. And try not to worry, my posts will not all be about death (hopefully).

Larry Sinclair will give a live radio interview from Florida tonight, Thursday, October 9, 2008. Larry Sinclair is on his Take it to the Streets Tour to tell his story of a drug and sex encounter with Barack Obama in November 1999. Sinclair will also share his knowledge of Donald Young, the gay choir director at TUCC, who was murdered in December 2007 and also inform the public about the Philip J Berg lawsuit.

Check back here tonight for details of the radio interview.

* Update *

I tuned in to the show and it does not meet my minimum standards for quality. The language was repulsive and I draw the line there.

That's right, I am finally able to join the ranks of the driving public and hopefully soon I can start writing road tests for out valued readers on this site, good evening to you all.

I'll confess something, as true as it is that I passed my test it was my second attempt but I won't go into why I failed my first attempt. But instead I'll talk to you about I had a little musde after my test which is fairly related to that.

I noticed quite profoundly that aside from the nerves of taking the actual test the examiner marking your driving as a person can equally affect how your test may go as much as your driving skill. In my first test the examiner I had was rather like a strict schoolteacher, he would be very definite about his wording and was almost on the verge on angry, not that I like to speak ill of other people. The second examiner I had, being a former driving instructor, noticed my nerves and began talking to me casually and it calmed me down to the effect that I could concentrate on my test and even feel like it was going well.

Anyway that was my little muse and now a quick round-up of summaries from the world of motorsport:

Canadian GP dropped from the F1 calendar-A great loss of a great GP, despite it's aparant track surface problems it just makes it more of a challenge and opens up more overtaking opportunities along the back straight, however it seems they're not good at exiting that corner in such a slippery state.

A1 Team GB amongst teams unable to race at opening round-Slightly annoyed at that as Ferrari are responsible for delivery of chassis to all the teams in the grid so bit peeved that GB was one of the teams that didn't get their chassis delivered in time, by pure coincidence Italy did.

Well anyway that's all I have to say at the moment, and a quick apology for not getting this done on Wednesday as I should have, just had an early night as my test was early this morning.

See you next week.

Here comes a mini rant!

I know..., I cannot believe that Kath & Kim has been remade into an American version. Kath & Kim is iconic and truly Australian in 'umour. The comedy translates to us in the UK simply because the Australians share the same sarcastic, self depreciating humour that other parts of the World don't get. And we love Australia. But where's Sharon? Everyone needs a Sharon!

The only saving grace is that Gina Riley and Jane Turner are the Executive Producers for the show. I just wish that they would make another Aussie series for us to watch.

Rant over...

Another Thursday. Another week with just two posts. Sad face. Katie, I think we either need to stop or find new people. I'm sort of up for just stopping... Then I can just post when I want on LJ and WP. We had a good run... slash, it was only like a month. Psh.

ANYWAY, I am going home tomorrow! :D Fall Break roxors! October is a busy month for me. Yes, quite. The end of the month brings us on fall wind symphony tour AND MY 21ST BIRTHDAY. I survived midterms (barely) but mostly because I only had two of them. BUT THEY WERE HORRENDOUS. I had them on the same day one right after the other. Orchestration and Arranging and CLARINET. WOE TO ME, THE CLARINET. My playing test went well and I am relieved. I can now play a chromatic scale and all scales up to four flats and sharps. WOOT. If the clarinet didn't mess up my embouchure so much I would possibly audit lessons so I can become a woodwind expert, lol. That would be dandy. Next we start sax. Maybe I could keep learning it also because then I could play from the reed books in pit orchestras. I would feel so accomplished.

KATIE - the image from my last post was the example from my music of what I taught my flutes. Quarter note tied to a sixteenth note run. :) I drew it! I have a program called Skitch and it's really cool (and just for macs :P)

I made this last night with Skitch for Ravelry:

Anyway, I have class in fifteen minutes (which is really just a recital THAT I DIDN'T MAKE ON BECAUSE THE JUDGES WERE ANNOYING.

...

I auditioned for Concerto and this is "Round 2" and my GROUP DIDN'T MAKE IT BECAUSE THEY TOOK ONE PERSON OUT OF OUR GROUP AND LET HER THROUGH. THAT WASN'T IN THE RULES. I am glad she's through but I suppose I am...

Jealous

Angry

Annoyed

Frustrated

Fed Up

...with the system (and this school, sometimes).

ARGH. Oh well. See you (maybe?) next week or on LJ.

ALSO, anyone else even care anymore? I'm guessing NO.

I’m super excited. It’s been three weeks and I’m just about bursting at the seems. We’ve also decided that this whole three weeks thing? Can not happen again. It’s entirely too long. We’re reverting back to the every other week set-up. Which will make everyone happier, I’m sure.

Other things that make me happy? My new sweater. Pumpkin roll. Crunching leaves. A new Ani Difranco studio album (wanna buy it for me? I’ll love you forever). Pearl earrings. Impromptu dining with my loves. Pleasant chit chat. Re-reading a favorite novel. “Ah-ha!” moments. Sleepy time tea in a my huge Jiminy Cricket mug. Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Plain old Tiffany’s. Cheesecake. Ticking the littlest brother. One-on-one mom time. Sitting on my dad’s lap (still, even though I squish him now). Emails from Tristus. Text-books pre-underlined. Dog-earing and underlining my novels (some of you are aghast I’m sure). Lilacs. Surprises. A really good sentence. Mae West. Sleeping Beauty. Books on CD. Impromptu dance parties. Wine. Dinners I didn’t cook. Reading on rainy days. Books that make you hug them. Songs that make you cry. Long wear lipstick. Royal purple. Crossing things off the To-Do list. Finding money in my coat pocket. Hugs. Cuddling a kitty. Stretching. Giving compliments. Reading the archives of my favorite bloggers. Donald Duck cartoons. Pretty stationary. Laughing. The Boy.

Holly Golightly was right. The day that's not quite Friday yet is just too gruesome. But then again, it is named after the Norse god of Thunder, so I guess that's something, right?

Taking just the shortest break from reviewing free clips online, I thought I'd share some links with you. With a little luck, and the internet, we'll all get through this day...

Apparently there's something called PG Porn that's being loosed in short clips online. It's on Spike TV's website, so I don't really trust it, but Nathan Fillion stars in it, along with Aria Giovanni, Belladonna, Sasha Grey, and Michael Rosenbaum. I haven't watched it yet, but that cast list alone has me a little curious. The first segment is entitled "Nailing Your Wife" and it's directed by James Gunn, who's Slither was a fun romp through 80s horror and is the ex-husband of The Office's Pam. Here's an interview with Gunn about the project.

We've talked about her before, so we might as well talk about her again in It Was Bound To Happen category: Sarah Palin porn. Not Sarah Palin doing porn, no, cause that would be... interesting (I think that my co-blogger and I agree that the Governor of Alaska has become the living embodiment of a hate fuck). No, it's Sarah Palin-inspired porn, brought to you courtesy of Hustler and entitled "Nailin' Palin." I guess you could say it doesn't get much more self explanatory than that. The plot supposedly includes Palin "nailing the Russians who come knocking on her back door" and a flashback scene to Palin's creationist college professor who will explain a 'big bang' theory even she can't deny." And, of course, a threeway with Hillary and Condoleeza look alikes. This thing just writes itself. Or maybe it doesn't, but here's a script excerpt.

Speaking of cinema: This week saw the release of perhaps my favorite film, the Alfred Hitchcock classic Vertigo, starring James Stewart and Kim Novak. It's a mesmerizing story of a detective who falls in love with the woman he was hired to follow. It won't really spoil anything to tell you that she eventually dies, and then his obsession really begins. There's no nudity whatsoever in the film, but I would still describe it as porn for your brain.

I'd like to mention my favorite new small book press with the greatest name ever: Bookake. It looks like they're going to specialize in a certain type of classic, maybe the kind of books that don't typically get the respect they deserve. Or maybe they get exactly the respect they deserve, I don't know. Either way, it's nice to see someone handling classic filth with respect.

In the world of bizarre tidbits from the internet:

Worries after 30 lesbians impregnated by the same man. Those worries, stemming from unregulated sperm donation, are future incest, in case you were wondering. It comes from Fox News, so you know it's got to be good.

Student faces porn charge over text sent by classmate. This is kind of a sad story, actually. Especially since the kid is only 13 years old.

The mayor of Portland is getting ready to release a series of sex tapes. Well, tapes of him talking about sex. Hmm. I guess that's less interesting.

Do we have any British readers here at CK? I'm curious because I'm reading here that one in three British men prefer smaller boobs and I'd like to know how accurate that is.

Apparently blondes don't have more fun.

Strip club offers free flu shots!

And before I leave you, here's a blog you can enjoy (but only occasionally!) while you eagerly await our next post: Sexy people. Have a gander and then come back to your sexy friends at Carnal Knowledge.

Time for the weekly memes!

What was the last book you bought?

Hmm...it would have be John Harwood's The Ghost Writer.

Name a book you have read MORE than once

Jane Eyre

Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?

Yes, Jane Eyre. It planted the seeds of feminism in the teenage me.

How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews

I have to admit - I can be quite the cover snob. If the cover looks dodgy (for example, I really don't like photographs of people as covers) then I tend to be biased. But I tend to pick up the one with the most interesting titles. I saw The Blind Assassin before I saw Atwood.

Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?

Fiction. Non-Fiction can become too draining and the world's filled with enough doom and gloom.

What’s more important in a novel - beautiful writing or a gripping plot?

I'll have to say 'beautiful writing' but you can't have a gripping plot with atrocious writing either. It depends on my mood.

Most loved/memorable character (character/book)

Loved: Jane Eyre/Jane Eyre, Thursday Next/The Eyre Affair series, Beth/Little Women

Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?

I Served the King of England by Bohumil Hrabal, Vanity Fair by Thackeray, The Garden Party & other short stories by Katherine Mansfield, The Italian by Ann Radcliffe, Romulus, my Father by Raimond Gaita.

Yes, I know, my nightstand is not a bookcase. I think we all have that problem! Books are stacked everywhere on the floor at the moment from my uni work.

What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?

Notes on a Scandal, over a week ago I'd say.

Have you ever given up on a book half way in?

Nothing that comes to mind. I tend to not give up and just skim along.

I LOVE Austin Tidbits parties. They're rare (quarterly?), obviously causing them to be more exciting than Tribeza parties, and they usually have fab gift bags and super-fashiony people, making them way more exciting.

Not that Tribeza parties don't have fashiony people--and I will say they draw a fair man-crowd, whereas Tidbits men are randoms off the street and boyfriends--but their happy hours seem to be hit or miss. Maiko a few months ago with free sushi? Hit. Random apartment opening? Miss. This Thursday? Boutique. 50/50, leaning toward miss because it's out in Westlake.

It's late so I've got no words of wisdom, just some random thoughts...

Our flag football game was cancelled :( because of all the crazy lightening and rain

I loved the rain though...

Instead of football we spent time with friends, which is always fun!

...and of course we watched The Office... hilarious as usual.

Probably one of my favorite parts of The Office was Jim timing Dwight! Awesome...

I finally finished watching The Biggest Loser today...I fell asleep last night. I always get so emotional when the people get voted off even though I know it's going to happen each week! ...then I get even more emotional when they show 'where they are now'

This passage encouraged me today...

I also love the passage I posted yesterday...it reminds me to not be anxious and to bring our requests to God...He understands, He sees...no need for me to worry.

I'm ready for the election- sick of all the commercials. That's bad when I say it because I barely watch any commercials! (thanks to my lovely TiVo) :)

I'm already ready for next Thursday...hopefully our next game won't get rained out!

This video is hilarious! Tina Fey does such a good job at impersonating Palin! Click HERE to watch it!

Well that's all for now...I'm starting to ramble... Hope everyone had a happy Thursday :)
