Avalon Players Presents the Broadway Classic "Beauty and the Beast"

Avalon Players is a theater group composed of children ages six through fifteen. Each year the Players rehearse throughout the summer to perform a Broadway classic: this year's show is "Beauty and the Beast." One unique piece of this group is that every child who auditions is given a role. This years show is Thursday July 31st, Friday August 1st & Saturday, August 2nd at 7:00 pm. & Sunday August 3rd at 5:00 pm. All shows are at the Avalon Elementary School. Kalorien, die:
a) Scheinbar die neue Ersatzdroge von Dave Wyndorf. Auch wenn der Gute jetzt einen deutlich größeren Schatten wirft, war es schade, dass der Auftritt seiner Band Monster Magnet nur ein Schatten ihrer selbst war. Übrigens war Wyndorfs Leibesfülle letztlich auch Gesprächsthema Nr. 1 am Freitag. O-Ton: „Boah, ist Dave Wyndorf fett geworden.“
b) Führten sich die tapferen Camper vornehmlich durch Ravioli, Grillgut und Dosenbier zu.

Konzertbericht: HURRICANE FESTIVAL - 20.-22.06.2008, Scheeßel -

Das Festival-Highlight von A-Z ....

A
Alkohol, der: Gehört in Maßen durchaus zu einem gelungenen Festival dazu. Leider schien er für manche aber auch der einzige Beweggrund für den Hurricane-Besuch gewesen zu sein.

„Anyone Can Play Guitar“: Alter Radiohead-Gassenhauer, der am Festival-Wochenenden von ein paar Trunkenbolden, aber auch der ein oder anderen Band bestätigt wurde.

Ausverkauft: War das Festival in diesem Jahr. Bei näherer Betrachtung des Line-Ups auch wenig verwunderlich.

B
Beste Band der Welt, die: Auch wenn sich die Ärzte so nennen, halten viele Musikfans Radiohead für eben diese. Der Auftritt beim Hurricane sollte diesen Musikfans in die argumentativen Karten spielen. Viel Spektakel auf der Bühne und ein hervorragend aufgelegter Thom Yorke. Ein wahrlich würdiger Festival-Headliner.

Briten-Indie: The Enemy, The Wombats, The Subways, The Pigeon Detectives, The Kooks und äääähm die Kaiser Chiefs. Vornehmlich auf der blauen Bühne anzuschauen.

Chaos, das: Wurde perfekt, als manche Leute wegen Platzmangels auf den Wegen zelteten. Aber es gab ja noch einige markante Flaggen zur Orientierung.

D
Drummer, der: englisch für Schlagzeuger. Der bekannteste Drummer des Festivals trat jedoch mit Gitarre auf, denn Dave Grohl rockte mit seinen Foo Fighters als einer der Headliner.
Zwischen „The Pretender“ und „Best Of You“ fast nur Hits und ein schmaleres Akustikset als bei einem regulären Gig der Foos. Da der Auftritt an einem Samstag stattfand, nahm sich Dave Grohl dann auch mal das Recht heraus a la Gottschalk zu überziehen. So macht man das.

Einlass, der: Nur ohne Flaschen und andere gefährliche Gegenstände kam man aufs Festivalgelände. Selbstverständlichkeit.

Flunkyball: Beliebteste Kombination aus Sport und Trinkspiel auf dem Campingplatz. Wird bestimmt bald olympisch. >>> weiterlesen!!!!

Und gestern erfahren, daß die Beautiful Girls in Karlsruhe aufspielen, zum legendären Fest - yippieh!!!

I have lived in Australia for over 4years, travelled around this huge island, I found this band is the most beautiful part of Australia, I mean the most beautiful band, the Beautiful Girls. They come to Newcastle every year and love the beaches around Newcastle.

The band members all have been friends each other since younger, went surfing together in Sydney and started a band in 2000. They had strong backup of radio programs and became famous very quick and they supported Jack Johnson Australian Tour.

Their music is often compared with Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, or Mason Jennings. Especially the first album ‘Learn Yourself’ is very relaxed and chill-out music through all songs. The lyrics are often about the ocean and appreciation to his life. The sound is very sensitive, sometimes it’s intense, sometimes it’s mellow, and sometimes it’s disconsolate…

There are many good Australian bands but I could not found any other bands that loves their own land and ocean and feeling them with life-size of themselves. Australian beach culture produced them I believe.

 Okay, so we get to Centennial Park spot on 3 pm (when the gates open). Queue up to get our tickets, then get in the main line. Fifteen minutes later we are buying water and merch.

Ash Grunwald starts playing, we're sitting on a picnic blanket, talking among ourselves, watching Ash play. It's great.

Then we're deciding whether to go to the loo/get something to eat now, or after the 'Beautiful Girls's' set, when Blue King Brown starts up. THAT decided it for me. So, we stayed, we sang along, we clapped, and we wrote down the phone number for texting if you wanted to know more about nuclear energy and such things.

The Beautiful Girls come on, I stick around while they play one of my favourite songs, then dash off to get something to eat. More eating follows, then, 'whoa. They're starting now!' I say, when I see Ollie McGill sitting at his keyboard. So we pack up the picnic blanket and move towards the front to join the dancing crowd. Well, 5 minutes later we sit down and start to talk again, THEN after a few more false alarms (the background music sounded VERY similar to one of their songs) the Cat Empire start to play.

I've got to say, it's definitely one of the best concerts I've EVER been to!!!! They played all the favourite songs, had everyone jumping up and down and/or clapping or swaying their arms (except my little sister, who just clapped along or stood and watched. I think it might have been shock.). Then, at 9:12pm they say 'this is our last song'. They play it, then after a few minutes of random callings of 'encore'. The crowd manages to get into a rhythm of 'encore, clap, clap, encore! clap, clap' So the Cat Empire come out and play another two or three songs.

Ahhh. Definitely a highlight of my life!!!!
