I've been playing with my new SpeedPort Black Team racquets for a few weeks now, still enjoying the light, maneuverable frame. Still deciding on the strings. My 'base' racquet is strung with NXT Tour 17 @54lb. which has a nice, soft feel. I decided a couple weeks ago to experiment with the Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour 17 in the other racquet.

It was strung at 53lb and I immediately noticed the increased power on the very first hit. I also noticed some low-frequency vibration in the frame when playing dink-ems (hitting just inside the service court) or just bouncing the ball up and down. As swing speed increases, the vibration dissipates, but the combination of tension, string response, and this particular frame produces unwanted vibration at lower swing speeds; something I don't care for in touch volleys or any touch shot for that matter.

I was about to have the strings cut out, then decided to try a Gamma shockbuster. I don't normally play with any vibration dampener, but placing the shockbuster just above the lowest cross worked wonders. No more low-frequency vibration and the response from full shots feels great. I absolutely love the results.

The racquet still produces good power, and the hype about more spin is not just hype. It did take a couple hours of practice to really get used to. At first, it seemed like I was not getting a crisp response on volleys, but once I really felt comfortable with the strings, I have good confidence in volleys (even light touch-volleys). Serves and overheads seem to launch themselves off the racquet.

The other really great feature is that at the lower tension, I get very little string movement; something that kind of irks me about the NXT strings, even at comparable tension.

The string seems to share some qualities with Big Banger. There is a definite trampoline effect, even if I don't swing much at all. I can half-volley and deflect hard shots from out of position and the ball launches itself well into the backcourt with little effort on my part. I can hammer the ball deep with spin on offense or play defensive shots with lots of confidence.

I'm not there, but this sting sometimes makes me thing of the Bruce Lee quote; "When my opponent expands, I contract. When he contracts, I expand. And, when there's an opportunity, I don't hit. It hits all by itself."

I would really like to try the string without the shockbuster on a heavier racquet; perhaps a regular Speedport Black. If I ever do so, I'll post again.

Just posted this on Illustration Friday. I've known about the site for awhile, but this is the first time I've put something up on it. Thanks to my cousin Ria, who agreed to post something with me (you can see hers at http://rnirwana.blogspot.com/), I finally had the motivation. The theme "strings" made me think of how clearly in sight my goals are, and yet something always holds me back from really reaching out and grabbing them. What's tying you down?

It has been 2 days since my G-String (ohh.. give me a break, you know I'm talking about strings(as guitar strings) and not strings( as in underware strings )) betrayed me and had a glorifying death by breaking in two (try and do that with an underware type G-string if you can :P) leaving my blackie unplayable. The mexican( fender strat mexico) came out of the closet after a year or so, but the lack of an amplifier made the experience unbearable. Couldn't play, couldn't record.. It just gave my fingers something to play with in the breaks between smoking. The circumstances cried out for actions. A new set of Martin Acoustic SP Phosphor Bronze 1,1mm is gracefully placed upon blackie's neck . It sounds odd for now, but I'll get used to it. Half an hour continuous playing to settle the pitch and I'm ready for recording once again. Well, that is if you can call connecting an electric-acoustic guitar to the line-in of an onboard low budget sound cardand capturing the sound , recording... But until the Tascam US-122L arrives, and Marios gets his mic , this will just have to do.. After all it's an amateur effort.. I ll try out the LDASPA plugins of ardour to give it some reverb.. lets just see..

Sometimes your guitar just will not sound right. Since guitars are usually made out of wood, it is affected by changes in temperature and humidity. A guitar that is not periodically adjusted properly will never live up to its full potential.

Intonation: Poorly adjusted intonation can cause a guitar to sound out of tune. It will make your guitar to sound messy when playing open chords, or sound slightly out of tune when you play higher up on the neck. Once you develop a good ear, this will drive you crazy. You can easily find a repairperson on Repairfinders.com to fix this for you quickly.

Intonation on a guitar should be adjusted if you ever change the gauge (thickness) of strings you use, if you change the action (distance between string and fret board) and at least twice a year (winter/summer). Some people suggest checking every time you change strings, although this is probably not necessary.

Intonation on an electric guitar is adjusted by moving its bridge saddles forward or backward. A bridge saddle is the piece of metal on the bridge that the string rests on. These can be adjusted with a small screwdriver (some guitars use an Allen wrench.) Your goal when setting the intonation is to make an open string sound exactly the same as the 12th fret on that string. In order to do this you will need an electric tuner.
In theory, the distance from the nut to the 12th fret should be the same as the distance between the 12th fret and the saddle. The 12th fret is supposed to be the halfway point. In reality, when we press down on the 12th fret, the string stretches, so it will generally sound a slightly higher pitch. To offset this annoying bit of physics we must adjust the 'length' of the string by moving the bridge saddles. If you move the bridge saddle back, you will increase the length of the string, therefore the guitar will sound less sharp when you fret notes.

If you are confused, forget about what I told you for a second, and follow the simple directions below or hop onto Repairfinders.com and have a qualified professional look at this for you.

Hit the 12th fret harmonic on your Low E-string. (You do this by lightly touching -not pressing- the string just above the fret. Chances are you probably knew that already.) Then press your finger down and play the 12th fret naturally. Your tuner (or your ear) will probably tell you that the two notes are (at least) a little out of tune.

THE BASIC RULE FOR SETTING INTONATION
If the 12th fret (pressed) sounds sharper (higher in pitch) than the harmonic, move the saddle back (away from the neck and pickups) and turn the screw clockwise.
If the note sounds flat, (lower in pitch) compared to the harmonic, move the saddle forward (toward the pickups)

Very Important: Remember to tune the string back to E each time you make an adjustment, before checking the intonation again. Often enough, the screws need to be adjusted very little. A tiny turn can make a big difference so start slow. Once you have properly intonated one string move to the next, until you are done with all six strings. The whole process rarely takes more than a half hour once you get used to it, but it may take a little longer at first, so hang in there. Once you are able, you will be proud of yourself.

Also, remember that the guitar, by its very nature, is an imperfect instrument. It is impossible to adjust intonation 100% perfectly. This might be obnoxious if you have an incredibly good ear, but you will just have to get used to it or give up the guitar.

It will be easier to get good intonation from your guitar if you use heavier gauge strings. If you use anything below, gauge .010 strings you may have problems. Personally, I use gauge .011 stings. Some people have trouble playing with heavy strings, but I swear, once you get used to them you will never go back. I strongly recommend using at least gauge .010

Also, do not adjust the action of your guitar or the truss rod after fixing your intonation. You would just have to do it all over again. If you need to adjust these things, do it first. These are other factors that affect the intonation of your guitar. If you use light strings, you may need to move the saddles back further, the same holds true if your strings are far from the fret board.

You must always keep your instrument finely tuned if you wish to receive many years of wonderful music from it. This is only an example of how easily someone in your area can assist you. However, no matter what kind of instrument you have, or whatever problem you may be experiencing, do not fear! On Repairfinders.com, it will take you only a couple of minutes to find a local business in your area to fix your guitar, piano, flute, saxophone, or any other instrument! So what are you waiting for? Jack is over and out.

Hey,

I just posted a new track on my site and thought I'd give all you faithful blog readers a first look (since no one else is aware it's up yet). The track was a demo I wrote called Behind the Wall. The piece was written with isolation in mind, I tried to keep the instruments isolated and somewhat stark, but cohesive as a song. I used solo and small ensemble string sections and a piano to create the piece. Enjoy.

I was recently asked how to split a comma delimited string into an array of 32-bit integers. Here is the solution that I came up with...

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Text;

namespace SplitString
{
    static void Main (string[] args)
    {
        string values = "-23, -20, -22, -30, -43";
        string[] values_split = values.Split(',');
        int[] dvalues = new int [values_split.Length];

        for (int i = 0; i < values_split.Length; i++)
        {
            int.TryParse(values_split[i], out dvalues[i]);
        }
    }
}

This may not be the cleanest or most efficient method of converting from a string to an array of integers but it seems to work. If a given string was not able to be parsed into an integer value using the TryParse method then the corresponding element in the integer array will be set to zero. Depending on how the code was actually going to be used you may want to handle the failed parse differently.

2. One that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter.

Boing Boing oddly linked to a site I've enjoyed called LP Cover Lover. The site serves as an online warehouse for curious record covers, most of them several decades old. The stranger the subject, the greater the likelihood a record has been recorded in honor of it. Case in point: Music to Help Clean Up Stream Pollution By. Of course, I spend time on sites like this one, in part, because it gives me great cover options for my theme mixes, like ORGANS!. Here's the cover BB posted about, as well as a few other good ones from the site.

I had the opportunity to pick up the following one at WILL's Vintage Vinyl sale a few summers ago, but passed because it was $15 and in poor shape. The Makers spoofed this cover for a 7" of the same name they released many moons ago.

Hmm, maybe I've found the cover for STRINGS! ... ? How would my face look on this?

The guitar has the number of tabs on relations with the various strings of a guitar. There are some pieces of metal on the location of the guitar are called frets. The numbers you see in the lines are connected to the case of the guitar. If you see the number five, it is the lowest E. That means you press the E string below the fifth case of the guitar. If there is a zero on the line, which means that the chain should be played open.

As the number of lines, May also have symbols. Esteban guitar review For example, the symbol "x" on a line means that the channel is not played at all. Other symbols that you can see in the form of guitar are "b" (note the curve), "H" (hammer), "p" (pull off) and "t" (touch).

Learn to read guitar tablature is essential to learn to play guitar properly. Follow these guidelines and that it will soon be able to play your favorite songs with ease and perfection.

Heute gibts mal wieder ein Codeschnipsel das Anfänger wohl zum Verzweifeln treiben würde.
Die folgende, syntaktisch als richtig gewertete Befehlsfolge steht zur Diskussion:

$blah="tröööt";
if($blah != 0)
{
if($blah=="tröööt")
{
echo "Sie haben getrötet!";
}
else
{
echo 'Sie haben "'.$blah.'" gesagt.';
}
}
else
{
echo "Sie haben eine 0 eingegeben";
}

Was wird PHP wohl ausgeben? Wer die Antwort findet bekommt einen Gummipunkt!
Richtig! Es ist "Sie haben eine 0 eingegeben". Der Grund ist ebenfalls offensichtlich, "tröööt" ist keine Zahl.
