I’ve made it very clear over the months writing this blog that I like the appliance approach t

I've made it very clear over the months writing this blog that I like the appliance approach to Asterisk, or any PBX, especially for SOHO/SMB applications. It's just a good sensible approach. Over the past year there have emerged some really good product offerings in this area.

By combining the flexibility of Asterisk or Freeswitch with a well conceived user interface solution a vendor can offer a product that addresses a wide range of possible user cases. By leveraging some Web 2.0 technologies that GUI can be very intuitive.

In addition, one appliance vendor that I'm aware of even provisions ITSP services via a third party. This in concert with auto-provisioning of SIP phones gives them a truly turnkey device. It's a great solution. If sufficiently well implemented it can eliminate the need for any on-site IT staff or consultants.

For all of the above I offer kudos to those in the space. But now it's time to take it up a notch. I offer an idea on how to differentiate your device from the pack in a truly meaningful way; take advantage of the large LCD displays and XHTML/XML browsers in the better quality SIP desk phones.

The browsers in the better Polycom, Aastra, Linksys & Cisco phones can provide a very convenient way to turn the PBX into more than just a phone system. They can better integrate it into business processes and deliver a more complete solution to the end user.

Start simple, that's ok. Download a bit map to the phone branding the phone for the end user. It's trivially simple. Just do it as part of your auto provisioning. Heck, download YOUR logo to begin with and the let the end user swap it for theirs if they want.

[caption id="attachment_703" align="aligncenter" width="390" caption="Micro-browser flight schedule application on a Polycom phone"][/caption]

Next, establish a simple application framework so that you can tailor the XHTML service to common end user needs. The first aspect of this is connectivity to information services.

All the manufacturers involved publish developer guides to aid in building browser based applications. Polycom gives away an example that includes display of random quotes, looking up weather reports online, and looking up stock values. If there was a fairly generic way to extend this into an inventory lookup that would be killer on a sales desk!

At present the overhead of getting such an integration rolling puts it simply out of reach of most SMB end users, and even many consultants. Not everyone is a code geek, nor should they need to be.

There are good odds that the various end-point manufacturers will help you in this task. After all, it serves to promote their higher-end phones. Anything that leverages an advanced feature in their device enhances their value proposition and entrenches them further into the end users site.

Next, consider the physical aspects of the site that might come into play. Almost every business needs some form of access control. You can provide hooks to drive a mechanism controlling an electric door release or gate opener. How I would love to let the Fedex driver in my gate when he pushes the intercom button. Why does that have to be so difficult?

Xorcom provides hardware interfaces in the Astribank USB channel banks. This is genius, but even these devices are larger and more costly than many sites require. A few contact closure interfaces (relays) connected should be easily implemented and not drive costs up too much.

What about the ability to bring up a security webcam image on the LCD of one of the newer color phones?

It's time to start thinking beyond the obvious about what your prospective customer might need. As a telecom/UC solution your device is ideally positioned at the core of the end users business. Leverage that fact and it'll bring you business.

Go ahead and congratulate yourself for deciding to enter a race. Believe it or not, there are many runners whose anxiety about competition keeps them from ever doing what you've just done.

Preparing for your first race is all about ensuring that you enjoy yourself and want to sign up for another one afterwards. To that end, follow these

Simple tips:
Check out the race site
If possible, visit the site and do a training run on the route a week or two beforehand, and get to know the course. Being comfortable with the route will calm some of your nervous energy.

Eat familiar foods The night before and the day of the race, stick to foods you know won't upset your stomach. This is not the time to branch out and try something that might not sit well with you during the race.

Prepare well ahead Get your race-day gear – pre- and post-race snacks, drinks and a change of clothes – ready the day before the race. You definitely don't want to be worried about this on the morning of the race. It's also a good idea to pin your number on your shirt the night before the race.
However, if you don't pick up your number until the morning of the race, don't worry – safety pins will be provided and a volunteer will be glad to assist you in pinning on your racing bib.

Hydrate Sip water throughout the evening before and the morning of the race to ensure that you are well hydrated.

Think positive thoughts Professional athletes know the benefits of visualization. Imagine yourself the day of the race feeling confident, relaxed and energetic.

Sleep well Try to get a good night's sleep before the race, but don't worry too much if nerves keep you awake – the sleep you get two nights before the race is even more important.

Arrive early Get to the race site early. Especially if it's a large event with lots of runners, you'll need time to visit the toilet at least once, sign in and get your number (if you haven't already), check your bag (but not your valuables), find where you need to line up and get in a good warm-up.

Warm up Keep your pre-race warm-up relaxed and easy: a mile of running (at the very most) or some walking, along with a few short striding lengths should warm your muscles sufficiently.

The IMS makes it mandatory for the establishment of IP Sec Security associations (SA) between the IMS UE and the Proxy CSCF. These security associations are set up during the two way handshake:

REGISTER , 401, REGISTER and 200 OK, which takes place during IMS registration and authentication procedures.

On the SIP level, there are three headers that are of importance for the setup of these security associations. These are the Security-client, Security-server and Security-verify headers.

As part of the SA establishment at the client side, there are two ports that are negotiated with the P-CSCF. These are the protected client port and the protected server port. When the UE sends the initial 'unprotected' REGISTER request to the P-CSCF, it is sent over the default port for SIP (5060). This initial REGISTER request contains the Security-client header which specifies the encryption algorithms that the UE supports, the security schema that the client supports and the parameters needed for SA setup.

This REGISTER request reaches the registrar (S-CSCF). The S-CSCF formulates an authentication challenge in the form of a 401 Unauthorized response back to the UE. This message contains the challenge parameters under the www-authenticate header. Additionally it also contains the Security-server header. The parameters received in this header are used by the UE to setup a temporary set of SAs. The lifetime of these SAs is set to the reg-await-auth timer.

Subsequently, the UE answers the challenge with another REGISTER request. This request contains the Security-verify header that mirrors the Security-server header of the 401 response received earlier. If the authentication answer is successful at the S-CSCF, a 200 ok is received. If the 200 ok is received, then the newly set of SAs are established between the UE and P-CSCF in place of the temporary SAs.

Thus, two protected ports each are negotiated between the UE and the P-CSCF for all subsequent signaling traffic.

Upon re-authentication by the UE, be sending another REGISTER refresh message, another set of SAs are established. The P-CSCF may or may not decide to keep the old set of SAs in lieu of the SAs established due to re-authentication.

To summarize, there are three types of Security Associations:

1) Newly established set of security associations: Two pairs of IPsec security associations that have been created at the UE and/or the P-CSCF after the 200 (OK) response to a REGISTER request was received.

2) Old set of security associations: Two pairs of IPsec security associations still in existence after another set of security associations has been established due to a successful authentication procedure (re-authentication).

3) Temporary set of security associations: Two pairs of IPsec security associations that have been created at the UE and/or the P-CSCF, after an authentication challenge within a 401 (Unauthorized) response to a REGISTER request was received. The SIP level lifetime of such created security associations will be equal to the value of reg-await-auth timer.

After hearing about Asterisk for the millionth time I finally decided to take the leap from boys

After hearing about Asterisk for the millionth time I finally decided to take the leap from boys' VoIP (Skype) to mens' VoIP by setting up my own PBX. It took a couple of days for me to learn the basics, but this page will detail my adventures with the *.

My extensions.conf is available here.

Slashdot RSS Feed Reader (ISN 7001*939 / sip:slashdot@sip.uberpipe.co.uk)

Ext 7001 Pri 1
PHP script fetches RSS feed from /., each line is the innerXML from the //ITEM[]/TITLE tag from the RSS feed, with the word "break" appended to each line to signify EOL (otherwise, sentences would run together as the feed gets read to the listener). This is the passed into Flite's standard input for speech synthesis.

The get_slashdot_news.php script looks like this (very simple):

<?
        $sd_rss_feed = "http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot";
        $sd_sxml = new SimpleXMLElement(file_get_contents($sd_rss_feed));
        foreach($sd_sxml->item as $item){
                $outstr .= $item->title . ". break.\r\n";
        }
        echo $outstr;
?>

The output looks like this:

cmn@ubercdn-tcsov:/etc/asterisk$ php /usr/share/agi-scripts/get_slashdot_news.php
BBC's Open Player Claims Not Followed Through. break.
Debian's Testing Branch Nears Completion. break.
reCAPTCHA Hard At Work, Rescuing Fading Texts. break.
Netflix Woes Mean a Gap In Shipments. break.
Using Photographs To Enhance Videos. break.
What Will Linux Be Capable Of, 3 Years Down the Road?. break.
30% of Americans Want "Balanced" Blogging. break.
Slashdot's Disagree Mail. break.
Violent Video Gaming Comes To the Wii. break.
Slashdot Announces Idle Section. break.
Americans Refusing To Wait For Mainstream EVs. break.
The Evolution of Sega. break.
Literacy Bridge Founder Answers Your Questions. break.
Psystar "Definitely Still Shipping" Mac Clones. break.
Intel Releases USB 3.0 Controller Interface Spec. break.

extensions.conf:

exten => 7001,1,System(php /usr/share/agi-scripts/get_slashdot_news.php | flite - /tmp/sdnewsout_tmp.wav)

Ext 7001 Pri 2

Output from fLite is encoded using Sox. GSM and uLaw/aLaw voice codecs only carry voice in 1 channel 8kHz 16bit SBC/SL, whereas the output from Flite is 16kHz unsigned 16-bit PCM. Also specified was a 45-bit sampling window (-qs; see man sox) so that Sox would resample the file in the quickest possible time at the expense of stop-band rejection accuracy (very high/low frequencies can "leak" into the passband, accounting for some wierd artefacts from time to time).

extensions.conf:

exten => 7001,2,System(sox /tmp/sdnewsout_tmp.wav -r 8000 -c 1 -s -w /tmp/sdnewsout.gsm resample -ql )

Ext 7001 Pri 3 & 4

The final resampled .gsm file is finally copied into Asterisk's sound library in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/, and then played to the caller via Asterisk's Playback() application.

extensions.conf:

exten => 7001,3,System(cp /tmp/sdnewsout.gsm /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/)
exten => 7001,4,Playback(sdnewsout)

Hmm, looking at the feeds (on the sidebar of this page) I want to do a Twitter version now. This could be quite awesome.

Frankly, I don't see it.

As far as I can tell Pingtel is not a significant player in the open source VoIP community. Oh, they're out there, but I have literally never had anyone talk to me about Pingtel with the kind of enthusiasm that I hear about other projects. In fact, I've never had anyone talk to me about Pingtel. Period. I suspect that they exist at some other level, perhaps in enterprise space.

Admittedly, my focus is very SOHO/SMB-centric. From my viewpoint the broader open source VoIP community revolves around OpenSER/OpenSIPS/Kamailio, Asterisk, and more recently Freeswitch. I hear a lot of enthusiam about Freeswitch lately.

I think that Garrett Smith has a sound perspective on this purchase. In making such a purchase it's certainly not safe to view Nortel as an all-of-a-sudden-champion-of-open-source. It's a big company with a well established closed source internal culture. It won't make that kind of a shift abruptly, although there may be groups internally who are able to effect change slowly.

There's surely room for good to come from the deal as SIPFoundry will presumably have some added resource to bring into the space. I'm sure that the individuals involved will do well. Perhaps Nortel can learn a few new tricks along the way.

Disclosure: I'm a Canadian citizen and Nortel is a fine Canadian company. I once owned a Pingtel Xpressa SIP desk phone. It was perhaps the prettiest yet most frustrating piece of VoIP hardware that I've ever experienced.

Our Mission

Mormon Widows and Orphans Society (MWOS) is not affiliated with any church. Mormons join the Society but do not have to belong to any church.

Preamble

Who is a 'Mormon'? The Society is made up of people with a common belief that Mormon refers to “Mormon” the Prophet who compiled the records of the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. Mormons are believers who follow the teachings and doctrines taught by Joseph Smith and the Latter-day Saints prophets. These doctrines are believed to be eternal, and part of the Gospel preached by Jesus Christ and the Holy Scriptures of the Bible. For the non-sectarian purposes of our Society a Mormon is to be: a parent of a Mormon, the child or dependent of a Mormon, the spouse of a Mormon, a living or dead person baptized Mormon, and any stepchild or sibling-by-marriage in a Mormon family. And, in general, all “defenders” of the Articles of Faith of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints (or similar Mormon denomination) or persons who profess to be Mormon (followers of Joseph Smith's teachings) who are to be baptized Mormon (while living or after death) are accepted by our Society to be Mormons. Mormons believe the Book of Mormon to be a sacred text and "another testament of Jesus Christ". Members of this Society consider themselves to be Mormons by belief, culture, relationship, a church membership or personal enlightenment. The Society is not a religion or a part of one. MWOS applies these criteria for the broadest possible purposes of inclusion and membership eligibility for our membership benefits. These exceptionally broad criteria should not be taken as official theological policy or doctrine.

Mission Statement

The Society members join together to assist and care for the Mormon spouse and dependents of a deceased member. Members of the Society perfect their personal plans ('Perfect Plan') for a 'Mormon Funeral' and Self-Insurance Plan. The Society's members are interested in promoting the religious practices of Mormon Funerals and Baptism for the dead in Mormon Temples. Voluntary Social Security is promoted as a religious obligation centered in Mormons' concerns for long term financial stability of the family when a parent dies. The Mormon Widows and Orphans Society works to assist members in their planning and religious observance of these practices and customs. MWOS acts as a facilitator in the successful undertaking of a deceased member's 'Perfect Plan' and the creation of a Self-Insurance Plan (SIP).

Article I: ASSESSMENTS. As of September 1984, this Charter stipulates that the “Assessment” referred to in all MWOS documents is to be ten U.S. Dollars ($10). Assessments are to be paid immediately upon notice that an assessment is due. This Article is subject to change from time to time by the Council which governs the Society.

Article II: MEMBERSHIP. The members of the Mormon Widows and Orphans Society (collectively “Members” and each a “Member”) shall consist of such persons as may be qualified for and admitted to Membership by the acceptance and approval by the Society of an application for Membership. Membership may not be transferred or inherited. Membership is not conditioned on any health-status of an applicant or Member, or relating to any applicant’s or Member’s spouse or a dependent's. The Society has different classes of Membership (collectively “Classes” and each a “Class”), each having different privileges, benefits and rights. General Members have all of the standard membership privileges and benefits described in the Membership Handbook, as the same may be amended from time to time (“General Benefits”), as well as such rights as are set forth in this Charter of the Society (the “Charter”). Members of Classes with additional or ancillary benefits have all of the General Benefits plus the privileges and benefits for that particular Class that are described in the additional benefits handbook for such Class, as the same may be amended from time to time (“Additional Benefits”).

Article III: APPLICATION AND PROCESSING CHARGE. Applications are submitted with a “one time” Application and Processing Charge as follows: $500 where an applicant is under the age of thirty (30) years; $1,000 where an applicant is older but not past the age of fifty (50) years; $5,000 where an applicant is older than fifty (50) years; and, $10,000 where an applicant is older than sixty (60) years. The application is submitted with the inclusive declarations. These declarations pertain to acknowledgments of age, Mormon persuasion and relationship status to a spouse and dependents. Payment arrangements are possible when applicants can demonstrate credit-worthiness or hardship. Charges are scaled because younger applicants pay more membership dues and assessments over time than older members while assessments remain at the same levels and aggregations are based upon total membership in every case.

Article IV: DUES. In order to maintain Membership in the Society and enjoy the General Benefits, you must pay an application processing charge and the Society annual dues of $36.00 per year ("Basic Dues"). If you belong to a Class with Additional Benefits, you must pay additional* Society annual dues of $24.00 per year ("Class Dues") plus Assessments for the Additional Benefits of the Class to which you belong ("Assessments"). Payment of all Basic Dues and Class Dues ("Dues") and all Assessments are due in advance and will be drafted from or charged to the account or credit card that you authorized MWOS or its agent to draft or charge. Your election to continue your membership after receipt of the Membership Handbook and these Terms and Conditions will be deemed confirmation of this authorization. Depending on the day you selected when you enrolled, your annual charges will be submitted on either the 5th, 10th, 15th or 20th day of the preceding month for the upcoming year. The payment of your Membership application charge and your first year's Dues and Assessments, as well as any subsequent payments, will be deemed confirmed on the date five business days after the date of the receipt of such payment by ACH, Check by Phone or credit card. The Society reserves the right to terminate any Membership and deny any and all privileges and benefits or for lack of timely payment. Dues and Assessments may be changed for ALL members of a particular class (but not individually) with notification, as the Council determines is necessary, appropriate or desirable in its discretion; provided, however, that any increase in the Basic Dues over $60.00 per year must be approved by a vote of the Members as set forth in the Charter. All payments of Dues and Assessments are collected and disbursed by a Third Party Administrator on behalf of the Society, in order to ensure timely payment for all Member benefits and to satisfy any applicable laws or regulations. *Please note: If you belong to a Class with Additional Benefits, the Basic Dues discussed above are already included in the amount ($60) you agree to pay each year.

Article V: BENEFITS.

Section 1. General Benefits are defined as Aggregation of Assessments. The Society notifies members and collects all assessments. These are aggregated for the benefit of a surviving spouse and orphans in accordance with a perfected plan which you have made before you die. All Basic Members must pay these assessments to remain members in good standing. Special Assessments are NOT voluntary. Additional Benefits are defined as Aggregation of Assessments. The Society notifies members and collects from them all assessments or any special assessment. These are aggregated for the benefit of a surviving spouse and orphans in accordance with a perfected plan which you have made before you die. All Class Members must pay these assessments to remain members in good standing. Special Assessments ARE voluntary.

Section 2. You must be actively enrolled and paid up on your Dues and Assessments in order to use or receive any General Benefits or Additional Benefits. You agree that you will use your membership only for your personal benefit or the benefit of your dependent family members. "Dependent Family Members" are immediate family members living with you, your spouse, or family members living with you and financially dependent upon you. Students aged nineteen (19) or older up to their twenty-sixth (26th) birthday must be enrolled in full time study at an accredited school in order to qualify as a dependent family member. Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, any of the General Benefits and Additional Benefits may be modified, changed, replaced, substituted, discontinued or eliminated as the Council, in its sole discretion, deems necessary, appropriate or desirable. Should your benefits materially change, you will be notified as soon as reasonably possible and in accordance with any applicable laws. Logging on to the Society website at www.MWOS.org will keep you up to date on your benefits and other pertinent Membership information.

Section 3. Membership in the Society entitles you to the benefits described in Sections 1 and 2 of this Article. Section 3 relates to the results obtained: “Aggregates”. Aggregates vary in amount based on total membership levels at a point in time. Aggregates can be retroactively increased to correlate with historical performance. The Society will distribute the first fifty-thousand (50,000) members' assessments to the entitled person(s) with any surplus to be applied to equalization of aggregates distributed which were based on fewer than that number. This is the equalization cycle and any new cycle can begin when that number doubles.

Section 4. Membership in the Society entitles you to the benefits described in Sections 1 and 2 of this Article. Section 4 relates to the disposition of “endowments”. For the purposes of this Charter, an endowment is any part or all of the Article III Application and Processing Charge. Every member is entitled to the repayment in full of this endowment upon written request under the terms set forth in Article VII of this Charter. You have established this endowment for yourself and your own account as a Self-Insurance Plan (SIP) and will be required from time to time to name a successor or assign. Failure to do so will be your affirmation and confirmation that the endowment bequeathed to the Benevolent Fund For Mormon Widows And Orphans.

Article VI: ACTIVATION AND TERM. Your Membership in the Society and any Affiliates is on an annual basis. General Benefits and any other benefits of your Class are activated as soon as your initial payment is confirmed. Your benefits are activated as set forth in your Benefits Handbook. The term of your Membership may continue for so long as you continue to meet the qualifications of Membership established by the Society and pay all required Dues and Assessments in full and in a timely manner.

Article VII: CANCELLATION AND TERMINATION. You can cancel your automatic Membership renewal at any time. If you wish to cancel your automatic Membership renewal, you must submit a signed Cancellation Request Form to the Secretary of the Society. To obtain a Cancellation Request Form please call Member Services for a faxed or emailed copy. To effect a cancellation as of the last day of a given month, your signed Cancellation Request Form must be received by member services no later than 5:00PM Eastern Standard Time on the 20th day of that month. Once received, your cancellation will be processed and will become effective as of midnight on the last day of the effective month of your cancellation. If your cancellation notice is NOT received by 5:00PM Eastern Standard Time on the 20th day of the month, then your Membership will continue through the end of the following month and you will be responsible for the full payment of all Dues and Assessments owed through such date. Non-payment of any Dues or Assessments will result in an automatic termination of your Membership and Benefits. Members who are terminated for nonpayment have a ten day grace period for reactivation. Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, the Council of Directors of the Society or its authorized Delegate (the “Council”) may terminate your Membership at any time in its sole discretion, in accordance with the Charter of the Society. If your Membership is terminated for non-payment and you fail to re-activate, or if your Membership is otherwise terminated for non-compliance on your part or at the discretion of the Council, then your Membership and Benefits will be retroactively terminated to the day prior to the last monthly anniversary of your effective date, and any claims subsequent to that date will be declined.

Article VIII: LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. The Society, its Affiliates, Councilors and all service companies contracted by the Society (collectively, the Companies”) assume no liability with regard to any benefits or services provided, or to be provided, by any third party. You agree that any claim with regard to such benefits or services shall be made against the providers of such benefits or services and not the Society, its Affiliates or Service Companies, whose sole obligation hereunder shall be to provide Members with eligibility to access to receive such benefits or services from the providers of such benefits or services.

Article IX: DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES. The Companies are not merchants, manufacturers or direct providers of many of the General Benefits and do not give any warranties, expressed or implied, as to description, quality, merchantability, fitness for any particular purpose, productiveness or any other matter, for the General Benefits, third-party providers of benefits or services or any services or merchandise purchased or received by you through your Membership in the Society. You acknowledge that you are not relying on the Companies' skills or judgments in selecting any third-party provider or benefits or services available to you. Their Application and Processing Charge will be automatically waived. Other non-Mormon applicants who are employed by any organized Mormon church or any religious organization having its primary basis in Mormonism will be considered for 'honorary' Defender of the Faith status. Their Application and Processing Charge cannot be waived. A Defender of the Articles of Faith waiver of the Application and Processing Charge can be requested by all Mormons employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the 'Mormon Church').

Article XVI: GOVERNANCE. (This Article in full can be found in the Handbooks and Published versions of this Charter. The MWOS Charter and Membership Handbooks are made available solely for the benefits of our members of the Society and may be distributed digitally, or in print and only with the expressed permission and license of MWOS.) The Council ratifies one Councilor who is appointed Secretary by the Executive Councilor. Councilors are invited by the Executive Councilor to serve on the Council for no less than six (6) months and no more than five (5) years per invitation. You may seek an invitation to serve one term as Councilor by submitting at least one-hundred new memberships. These new members must be unanimous in their nomination of you for Councilor. At least 50% of these new members must be under the age of thirty (30) years and no more than 25% may be older than fifty (50) years but not older than sixty (60) years. Members older than sixty (60) years may be invited to serve for one term as an Elder Councilor by submitting at least twenty-five new memberships. These new members must be unanimous in their nomination of you as an Elder. All these new members must be older than sixty (60) years. The Executive Councilor and Elder Councilors are responsible for oversight of voting and determine what will be voted upon by the Membership unless this Charter provides for it specifically.

Foto: cocolinda

In the last months I’ve been working on a 3G video portal based on JSLEE (a java event driven

In the last months I've been working on a 3G video portal based on JSLEE (a java event driven application server) and Spring WebFlow 1.0.5 (a flow execution engine that allows to design a web app as a state machine).

The Video Portal uses SIP to established incoming calls and after the call is setup a Flow execution session is started to keep track of the state of the user inside the container. The user can interact with the video portal from a UMTS phone using DTMF tones sent to the application server as SIP INFO messages or inside the media path.

The JSLEE container provides a well define concurrency model using the concept of activity, all the event belonging to a given call are queued inside a so called activity context and are received by the application logic instantiated by the container to handle the call and registered to receive all the events inside the call.

Once the call is setup the application logic inside JSLEE (implementing using Service Building Blocks) ask the WebFlow Registry for a flow definition using a flow id and creates a flow execcution session and start the flow execution. After the flow is created all the events belonging to the call (like DTMF) are notified to the flow execution. The Flow Session is saved inside a persistent field that allows to continue the flow execution on a different node in case of failure of the first active node.

The call events are passed to the flow using a method of FlowExecutionImpl with the following signature:

Application signalEvent(String eventId, ExternalContext ctx)

the flow engine execute the transition described inside the flow definition for the given event, returns a view to be presented to the user and waits for the next event. The view usually is the url of the new video to be streamed to the user mobile phone using a Media Server.

A flow definition in spring webflow is represented using an XML files that defines the state machine implementing the video portal flow. The Flow Definition is very closed to the specification of the video portal application coming from the marketing, this reduces drammatically the implementation of the video application and provides a very fast and clean way to change the video portal behaviour according to the marketing needs.

Luca Filigheddu reminds me to consider things carefully before making a decision. After some reflect

Luca Filigheddu reminds me to consider things carefully before making a decision. After some reflection I agree that FWD Deserves our Praise. Jeff's leadership in the community has been remarkable over the years. It's so easy to forget the early visionaries when things are so far down the road, and running really well.

Earlier in my thought process I had considered the best use of the funds; a FWD account or a Kiva loan? My wife and I have recently started to support Kiva, at least in part inspired by Randulo of VUC fame. However, it's an unfair comparison. FWD has served me well over the years so perhaps it's time that I returned the favor.

As I write this sitting in the Continental Airlines President's Club lounge in Fort Lauderdale it occurs to me that the $30 annual fee is a relatively trivial sum of money. I very much consider it like a membership in a club. Not a professional organization like the AES or SMPTE to which I have also belonged at times. A more elite club of VOIP visionaries.

Despite all the progress that we've already made in VOIP I still feel that any force that helps push the legacy PSTN into antiquity has to commended, and FWD seems to be carrying on that mission. As such I must commit to converting my membership to paid, and I suggest that you do as well.

I remain, sip:54245@fwd.pulver.com.

Waktu iseng buka arsip-arsip “dibuang sayang”di komputer lama, ngga sengaja nemu file gambar log

Waktu iseng buka arsip-arsip “dibuang sayang”di komputer lama, ngga sengaja nemu file gambar logo “55 tahun UGM” yang gagal dijadikan logo resmi. “Boleh juga nih ditempel di blog”.
Ceritanya, bulan April tahun 2004 yang lalu panitia penyelenggara HUT 55 tahun UGM bikin sayembara desain logo, judulnya “55 Tahun Meletakkan Dasar Pemikiran Bulaksumur”.
Contohnya, arti warna biru apa, makna dari warna emas apa, makna taksa apa, and some kinds like that.

Tulisan 'Universitas Gadjah Mada' menunjukkan kesatuan kedua makna sisi logo

I like the logo but I still can’t believe I wrote those words… +_+ errgh

Tak apalah, kalaupun bukan orang lain yang menghargai karya kita setidaknya kita bisa menghargai karya kita sendiri (huh, such a wise word of a total loser…). (-_-)

Any comment? ^_^

*)Disclaimer:

Plesetan S.I.P (yang seharusnya Sarjana Ilmu Politik) menjadi Sarjana Ilmu Percontongan pertama kali diperkenalkan seorang dosen Hubungan Internasional UGM (demi keamanan, identitas beliau disembunyikan ^^),

“kalo ngga nyontong, yang namanya ‘pemerintah’ ngga bakal ada” tambah adikku.

Jadi bukan hasil pemikiran penulis lho... (fiuhh…cuci tangan)

I have to thank Tim, the editor at SNB, for his patience. It took me a while because I really wanted to explore the latest v3.0 firmware and the optional Polycom Productivity Suite.

It'll no doubt take them a few days to get the review ready for publication. I would expect it to be online some time in the next few days.

Not to ruin the surprise, but I'll be very sad to turn in the sample phones and go back to my old IP600. I may need to find some resource to procure a couple of IP650's for myself. Once you get used to them it's hard to go back.

Update: Here the link

According to various reports after over a decade Free World Dialup is moving to a paid service model

According to various reports after over a decade Free World Dialup is moving to a paid service model. I can't help but feel that something is being lost in this transition. I've had a FWD account for years (54245) but rarely ever used it beyond testing Asterisk servers. I does ring through to my desk phone, passed over IAX2 to my Astlinux box. Someone said that the IAX2 access has been down recently, but I haven't noticed.

I once spoke to a guy down in Argentina who just happened to answer the intro line. I also left Jeff Pulver a voice message once. His number was really cool and low, like 1001 if I recall. Mostly I just called their echo test to verify connectivity.

FWD was fun. It was truly HAM radio on the internet. It was part of what drew me into VOIP.

Early in 2007 when I was shopping for an ITSP I found that Junction Networks was offering free SIP calling as well as commercial termination. That is, you could sign up for a free account and get issued a SIP URI. Then you could call SIP-to-SIP for free. Calling the PSTN or getting a DID cost real money, but not much.

In their transition to emphasis on the OnSIP hosted PBX it seems that the free accounts have been dropped from their web site. I wonder if they still do that? It was very FWD-like.

Perhaps the greater worry should be for FWD to figure out how to have any relevence at all moving forward? At $30/year they'll be competing with Majic Jack and their ilk. That's not good. It's a race to $0.00/minute that does noone any good. Effectively a race back to free. That's not progress.

Or maybe FWD is something whose time has simply passed? SIP is not exactly on the edge any more. I'd love to see greater use of ENUM and SIP URIs but it's unclear how that can be accelerated.

Michael Robertson's SIPPhone kinda went through a similar sort of transition. SIPPhone spawned Gizmo Project, which evolved into Gizmo5 and has a buncha chargable services now.

The honest truth is I'm not certain where any of this is going. For business use I don't feel that I can rely upon services that are not bone fide commercial providers with reliable support. Someone I can lean on when things don't work.

I could be convinced to pay for FWD if there were some particular advantage to it. Perhaps they could be the first ITSP to offer secure SIP calls? There needs to be reason, a differentiator...or why bother?

It has been 2 days since i started using the click to call service tringme. My earlier post was focused on the product offer and the marketing strategies employed. I was even raving at my ability to make VOIP calls from mobile. I still love it.

Let me focus on the service part in this poost.

Quality : My experience with tringme tells QoS is not all that great. I experienced lags. Though reduced from earlier experiences it still needs a lot of improvement.

Pricing : My first reson for going in for a VOIP based click n call play is to reduce the cost. I am not sure how others are using these services. I am a tard disappointed with the pricing. It's more expensive to make calls to UAE using this service. I spent 565 seconds over phone to UAE. I received a charge of $2.35. $1.82 to the UAE phone and the rest to my phone. it averages out to $.25 per minute. Bingoo! . It will cost me Rs 9 from my landline. I must be a fool to spend Rs 11 on my Voip. I had a look at Jaxtr pricing. They too charge at similar rates. Please have a look at the rate cards before you buy these services

Customer Care :I have some issues with tringme billing. The customer care is quite responsive. If they can keep up this level of speed at higher volumes, they can make a positive dent on customer.

I am not very sure if there is a value on offer in this call compared to mobile/landline network.

Suggestion :I am not interested to come to your site everytime to call. I am neither interested to install a widget as of now. Please provide me a toll free SMS number so that i can send in my destination number. You can get me onto the call. If this feature is already implemented then direct me to the link.

"To reach this goal, IPBrick uses only Internet communications services (SIP, SMTP/IMAP, XMPP and HTTP) integrating with DNS and LDAP support services."

E rapidamente temos uma solução "out of the box".
