Forevermore Farm… a lovely name for a wonderful small farm in the hills of West Virginia, wher

Forevermore Farm... a lovely name for a wonderful small farm in the hills of West Virginia, where my friend Debbie White tends to her flock of mostly Coopworth sheep. The children and I visited Debbie in the spring after lambing, and we had a wonderful time feeding the sheep, including the bottle babies. Debbie even let the children name one of them ... Baaaab, who is eating from my daughter's hand below.

For years Debbie has sent her wool off and had it processed to roving, which she sells locally and also spins into yarn which she knits into felted bags to sell in a artisan's coop near her house. Recently, we both realized that her sheep and copious amounts of wool plus my online shop (and lack or sheep, seeing that I live in town) made for a natural fit. And so, I am now happy to offer her rovings for sale! Currently, I have listed four natural, dye-free colors, named for the sheep they come from, but I am in the process of dyeing some of the roving as well. The picture below show those four natural color rovings. Wouldn't they be lovely used together in a no-dye project?

Coopworth is a long wool that is lustrous and very very easy to spin. It felts nicely too, and takes dye beautifully. It's a great all-purpose wool, suitable for sweaters, socks, hats, blankets, and felted items like bags. It's a wonderful choice for beginning spinners as it is easy to draft.

Debbie takes wonderful care of her sheep, and it shows!

Here are some more pictures from her farm (including one of Debbie with one of her angora goats):

Clothkits are back!!! Kay Mawer from Chichester is breathing life into the legendary British brand that started small in Lewes in the 1970s and grew and grew and grew and grew, and then went into hibernation.

I think there was a great divide in the town of my childhood between those who 'did' clothkits and those who 'didn't'. Our family was definately on the 'didn't' side, but I wore home made clothes and as a teenager made many 'interesting' and some 'brilliant' garments. For a number of years I was in fact genuinely convinced that I really did have one leg longer than the other (that is quite normal for a growing gal I figured!). Only later did it dawn on me that all my ready-made clothes fitted my 'lopsided legs' perfectly!!

Anyway, Clothkits is back, better than ever, and after allowing my sewing machine to gather dust for too long I intend to pass on my sewing skills, such as they are, to my next generation. I may even be enticed into a skirt by the gorgeous adult designs on offer.

They also sell a few pieces of great looking jewellery.................take a look!!!

love Lucy xxx

As you may, or may not, have known, the wedding was this past weekend. It went beautifully but I don't have pics yet...my camera went missing for the majority of the day. Go figure. Oh well, I think everyone there took a motherload of pictures so I'll get some sooner or later!

With all of the excitement of the wedding and moving, I've had to decide what to do with my shops. We leave on October 3rd and we should be in Alaska around the 17th. From October 1st to the 27th, I will not be able to ship. I'm leaving the shop up so that people can (hopefully) start their holiday shopping. Since most hotels have free WiFi, I'll still be able to blog, answer convos, and respond to sales. Sound good? Yes? Ok.

I did a little shop update earlier...

Even the cats are looking at me like "Mom, why are you even here? How 'bout a day off huh?" To which I reply, "Inventory ain't gonna count itself my precious"

This gray little day has made the shop way too quiet and I'm not in the mood for t.v. So, I'm gonna crank up a little NOLA soul in here starting with some Kermit Ruffins and work my way through till I get to The Wild Magnolias.

You know, living in Arizona has a few perks. Probably the biggest one is that you never really need to check the weather. If you're planning a pinic or barbeque you don't really have to worry about being rained out. And this is a HUGE deal for someone like me who grew up in Louisiana. You take your fate into your own hands if you plan an outdoor event there. Now that being said, sometimes there are things that happen here that are not, well, NORMAL. Case in point, a dust storm. I'm pretty sure that dirt should not be lifted from the ground and formed into a wall and then forced forward into anything and everything in its path. But here? That's exactly what happens. I caught a picture of the storm that blew through here last week (click to embiggen):

The Sugar Daddy called me on his way home from work that day to tell me about it, which was fortunate since I had some goodies hanging out to dry in the sun. THAT could have been ugly. But everything was saved, and today I listed a few of them in the shop, go have a peek! :)

Gotta love National Talk Like a Pirate Day falling on a weekend. I've swabbed the deck here at the shop and am open for business. So, bring ye booty cuz' we got some sailin' to do.

In Shop News:

We're getting ready for Rock Shrimp Fest which is October 4th this year. If you see a lot of moving around the store have no fear that we're closing up or anything. I'm just making room for the new stuff that's coming in. This fall is going to be the most fun season here yet at CCC.

Ed's birthday is Oct. 9th and even though he is no longer with us in this world I still believe he should be celebrated. So, there will be much drinking and BBQing that weekend. Come on by and enjoy the party. One rule: Not tears. Just cheers.

All the teas and flavored coffee are half price till their gone and candles are 25% off.

Now, on to Friday's first cigar:

I wanted a quick smoke this morning but with a robust and exotic essence. While I'm not usually an infused cigar smoker I do like the Drew Estate's Natural Line which is more of an aromatic variety than a flavored one. This gem right here is the Jucy Lucy. Almost clove like in nature this wee little 3x38 ring size manages to carry a whole lot of taste with a good burn that never seems to run hot. It's just the right thing for enjoying the first real (almost) cool breeze of the year.

Happy Friday Y'all!

Things with me are ever changing. My ideas, plans, goals...no wait, I don't set goals.

Anyway, you get it.

So right now I'm in the process of doing 3 things:

Finishing this wedding.

Preparing for the move.

Making my website my bread and butter.

See how those are in order? Yes? Ok. Now flip that list upside down and that's where my priorities are. Yup, I'm a strange breed of girl who puts her "job" (I like doing it too much for it to be a real job) over planning a wedding. Darn you Jennifer Lopez for making wedding planning look so cool and glamorous. It's so not like that.

So anyway, I'm not going to be listing anymore new things in my shop and I'll likely take out the few fall things that I have listed. Those will go over to the new website and I'll just be renewing what's in the shop until I sell all the inventory. Hopefully when we get settled in Alaska, I can do a big grand opening for my site with advertising and everything. SO EXCITING!

Also, look for another giveaway this week. I don't have anything to do tomorrow so I'll probably do it then. Seriously, I don't have anything to do tomorrow. Wedding in 5 days and nothing to do? Believe it.

Here's the Cusano59 Rare Cameroon. Being a Cameroon fan myself I was excited to get to try this newish offering from Cusano. The pretty sheen to the wrapper gave me a good hint that I'd like this one for sure:

It was well constructed and my cut was easy and even:

No flaws to be seen on this one:

Fired up:

The Cusano59 lit easily and burned evenly throughout. It had that full flavored nip that I love in this type of leaf. Just enough bite to the tongue to keep things interesting but it never turned bitter. This is definitely one smoke that you will find here at CCC by this coming Fall.

I've been wanting my own website for quite some time and now I finally have it!

I knew it would be finished today or tomorrow so when I found out it was done today, I was very excited. I worked on it all day today, taking and editing photos. I even added a few things already! I was going to hold off on it until the first of the year but I was so pleased with it, I couldn't wait.

Now I'm hoping to be selling soley on my website by the first of the year. I'm not closing my Etsy shop and I'll undoubtedly stick around on Etsy for the forums and as a buyer. It's a little scary to leave the comfort of Etsy but I like being able to control every aspect of my shop.

My site was designed by Keely over at Mod Melon. She's a pleasure to work with and she does a fantastic job!

Also, there's been an update in the shop today, go check it out!

Back last spring, a mutual friend introduced me to a man raising a small herd of llamas in Shenandoa

Back last spring, a mutual friend introduced me to a man raising a small herd of llamas in Shenandoah county who was interested in turning their fiber into yarn. I've been helping him with the process, and just today, the resulting yarn has been added to my etsy shop! (link to the right). There are five colors (all natural, no dye) all spun to a light DK weight. Most llamas have a "double coat" with longer, coarser guard hairs mixed with their otherwise heavenly soft downy coat, so before spinning, we had the mill "de-hair" the fiber so only the soft stuff ends up in the yarn.

Llama fiber is not crimpy like wool (nor is it oily). It is lustrous and silky-feeling, and insulates wonderfully (I've heard that it's warmer than wool). It's a great fiber for lace knitting and items like shawls and scarves, because it drapes beautifully. Can't you see an icelandic or "old shale" lace stole in these colors! This range would be great for fair isle knitting too...

Here are some pictures for you:
