DURHAM - Another local Democratic official has been charged in a criminal case that includes allegations of sexual assault and satanic rituals.

Diana Palmer, first vice chairwoman of the Durham County Democratic Party, turned herself in to Durham police this afternoon. Palmer, 44, of Cottage Woods Court, was charged with one count of accessory after the fact of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Bill Thomas, a defense lawyer in the Duke lacrosse case, is representing Palmer and is disturbed by the accusations.

"Ms. Palmer vehemently denies any association whatsoever with a satanic cult," Thomas said this afternoon while his client was being processed at the jail. "She further denies any knowledge of a crime being perpetrated by the persons previously arrested."

Joseph Scott Craig, 25, and Joy Suzanne Johnson, 30, both of 2305 Albany St., are in the Durham County jail.

Craig, a dispatcher at Allied Waste Industries, has been charged with second-degree rape, second-degree forcible sexual offense, three counts of second-degree kidnapping and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Two of the kidnapping charges were filed Tuesday.

Two charges of aiding and abetting filed against Johnson on Tuesday reveal new details of what the woman in their house alleged.

The warrants accuse Johnson of "instigating and encouraging" her husband as he handcuffed a man and forced him "into a dog cage, leaving him there for hours, terrorizing him."

Johnson was charged Friday with two other counts of aiding and abetting. The charges stem from accusations by a woman who listed the couple's home as her address.

The man who police say was caged also lived at the house.

"The Durham Police Department has knowledge that my client was not present and did not have knowledge of crimes for which others have been arrested, and I hope the investigator will share this with the public," Thomas said Wednesday.

In a city where an escort service dancer's highly publicized accusations of gang rape were dismissed as phony allegations in the Duke lacrosse case, many are reserving judgment in the satanic ritual case until more facts are disclosed.

With prosecutors are divulging little information and newly appointed public defenders are not yet up to speed on the cases, the only details available are in arrest warrants.

The News & Observer does not generally identify people who have filed complaints of sexual assault.

The incidents, according to warrants, occurred in December 2007 and in January and May.

Palmer was a partner with Craig and Johnson in a company called Indigo Dawn. The company's Web site says Indigo Dawn offers products and services "to promote enlightenment and assist in the development and self-empowerment and divine potential."

Among the services offered, according to the Web site, are "intuitive guidance, past-life regression, spirit guide communication and healing and cleansing."

Police continued their investigation today. They executed a search warrant at the Albany Street home.

Durham animal control officers were at the couple's Albany Street home today with pet abandonment notices.

The couple has two dogs, according to neighbors, a small chihuahua named Pebbles and a white pit bull terrier named Tia. Neighbors said they thought the smaller dog had been taken out of the home and was being cared for by a friend.

The larger dog was in the backyard, but a neighbor had been feeding and taking care of him since the arrest.

Johnson and Craig have been in the Durham County jail since Friday.

It is just there, a waiting vessel for our proclivities. It is a realm without rules save those of natural ones governed by molecular behavior en masse. An intricate webwork of electromagnetic conversation, we spring squalling from the loam of flesh into a gallery of light and sound and sensation. The world, consisting of new and frightening apparitions, whirl past us as wild static. The barrage of confusion soon coalesces into meaning as we gain mastery of our sensory apparatuses and locomotive capability; we quickly start to effortlessly process and respond to the packets of information received from the environment.

We exist in a world where information is alive, carried by points of information called individuals. Our early experience, quite often under the guidance of biological providers of our particular genetic code, are encoded into our psyche. The language of these teachers more than not involve specific religious and political cues which imprint themselves strongly on our neural framework, and these imprints are long lasting.

In short, we do not have total control of our own mental development during our younger years, but soon enough we are able to realize that we create the world we live in. It does not create us, and if it does, if we let it, or we simply don't know it, we are just code following a higher social paradigm perpetuated by society itself. Tick-tock. Cogs. Robots. Trapped in our own belief system as provided by our parents and our particular range of experience.

Let's say our friend, ah, Bob, is sitting at a cafe reading his Bible. As he munches at his lunch sandwich and sips at his iced tea, around him at various tables are seated a devout Christian, a Catholic, an atheist, and an agnostic. The Christian smiles indulgently at Bob's proud public display of faith. The atheist may think thoughts ranging from the angrily derisive to the pitying at such self delusion. The agnostic looks on curiously, possibly with a slow, confused smile growing on his face, and wonders how one could determine which is true in a world where everyone claims their belief is not a lie. The Catholic, tossing down his napkin, snorts disapproval upon his departure to confession. An Muslim, by chance, passes by and feels deep-seated frustration and anger at the perusal of the man reading  the Bible. The crackhead across the street chewing at a week old chicken bone salvaged from the garbage, with gleaming eyes sizes up Bob, from his clothes and that nice shiny watch, as a possibility towards illicitly supplementing his drug habit. Bob gets up, Bible in hand, and checks his watch as he hastens to the nearest Satanist covent, wondering how the hell the devil got such a bad rap; fruits are excellent sources of vitamin C.  No one world through no one set of eyes is the same. That is the magic and curse of the Umwelt.

What we often do not realize... you can erase the damn map. Understand what you see is only the superimposition of your thoughts, beliefs, and values onto this shared reality. You attribute the objects and events with your own intrinsic meaning and emotion. Because of this, the world is wracked with pain, irrationality, hate, anger, and craziness in general, but it also accounts for the love, imagination, wonder, and spirit of Mankind.

Semanticist Alfred Korzybski has this bit o' wisdom that will do us well to remember: The map is not the territory.

Brian Warner'dan Mr. Manson'a

“Bir sürü talk show seyrederim ve kadın Hollywood yıldızlarıyla seri katilleri aynı potada eritmeleri, her şeyi sansasyonel haber düzeyine indirgemeleri beni çok şaşırtır” diyor Manson.

Farklı müzikleri ve abartılı sahne şovlarıyla Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids Florida’nın death metal ortamının underground sahnesinde gittikçe ünlendiler.

Bir süre sonra baterist yokluğu nedeniyle kullanılan drum machine yerine Sara Lee Lucas gruba alındı.

1990’daki en önemli olay NIN’in lideri Trent Reznor’la tanışılmasıydı.1991’de ilk demo kasetleri “After School Special”u aynı; sene içinde kasetleri “Lunchbox”ı çıkardılar. Bunlardan önce de prodüktörlüğünü kendilerinin yaptıkları birçok promosyon kasetleri bulunuyordu.1992’de Slammie ödüllerinin yılın en iyi grubu, en iyi sert alternative grup kategorilerine aday gösterildiler. Son demoları “Refrigerator”dan sonra Mayıs 93’de Trent Reznorın yeni kurduğu plak şirketi Nothing (Interscope) ile anlaştılar. O seneki Slammie ödüllerine beş dalda aday oldular, Yılın En iyi Grubu ve “Dope Hat” ile Yılın Şarkısı ödüllerini aldılar .(Bu arada Dope Hat’in video klibinde Anton LaVey’de yer alıyordu.) 1994-96 yılları;nda da En iyi Grup, En iyi Video, En iyi Albümödüllerini aldılar.

Temmuz 1994’de onüç parçalık albümleri “Potrait of an American Family”i çıkardılar.Albüm kapağı Marilyn Manson’ın bir saatlik çalışmasının ürünü, içerik ise tam bir saldırıydı.

93’de basçı Gidget Gein’in yerini Twiggy Ramirez aldı. Ramirez (Jeordie White) Florida’lı metal grubu Amboog-A-Lard’da çalmış 922de Slammie’de En iyi Ritim Gitarist ödülüne layık görülmüştü.

Bu albümden iki single “Get Your Gunn” ve “Lunchbox”çıktı.(Şarkının esin kaynağı Amerika'da öğrenciler tarafından silah olarak kullanılması yüzünden yasaklanan metal beslenme çantalarıydı, şarkının videosunda ise arkadaşlarından dayak yiyen küçük bir çocuk saçlarını iki yandan kazıyıp beslenme kutusuyla saldırı için hazırlıklar yapıyordu)

1994'ün Ağustos ayında Marilyn Manson , Nine Inch Nails ile bir turneye çıktı. Bu konserler sırası;nda yapılan çılgınlıklar Marilyn Manson’ın ününü arttırmaya yetecek de artacak cinstendi. Salt Lake City’de Manson’ın çalmasına izin verilmeyen NIN konserinde Papaz Manson adında sahneye çıkan gizemli şahsın bir Mormon incilini paramparça etmesi bunlardan ilkiydi. Yine 1994’de Dallas’da Marilyn Manson Sara Lee Lucas’ın bateri setini yaktı, bu olaydan sonra Lucas’ı gören olmamıştı.Twiggy’e göre bu aşırı bir tepkiydi. Sara Lee Lucas’ın yerini Ginger Fish aldı. Danzing turnesine yeni bateristleriyle katıldılar, turnede Korn da vardı. 22 Haziran 1995’de Manson ikinci kundakçılık olayını; gerçekleştirdi, bu seferde John Stewart Show’da sahneyi yaktı; ve tabii ki anında binadan kovuldular.

Smells Like Children 

Aylarca süren turneden sonra ekip ” Smellls Like Children” EP’si üzerinde çalışmaya başladı. “Smells Like Children” Marilyn Manson’ın favori şarkıları;nın ve sample edilmiş tuhaf seslerin bir birleşimiydi. Yine diğer cover “Rock’n Roll Nigger” Patti Smith’in kendi yorumuyla “Natural Born Killers”a soundtrack parçası olmuştu. “Natural Born Killers”ın  soundtrack’inin yapımcısı ise Trent Reznor’dı. (Bu bağlantılar hep dikkatimi çekmiştir.) Özellikle “Sweet Dreams” Marilyn Manson’ın geniş kitlelere ulaşmasını sağlayan en önemli parçaları sayılır. Birçok hayranı onları bu parça sayesinde tanıdı.

Antichrist Superstar

Eylül 95’deki altı aylık turneden sonra yeni albümleri “Antichrist Superstar” ın kayıtlarına başladılar. Albümü yapmak onlar için gerçekten güç olmuştu. Albüm kaosa tehlikeli bir şekilde yaklaşıyordu. Oluşumu sırasında grup elemanlarının yaşad&ıkları albüme yansımıştı.. New Orleans’da eski bir cenaze evinde yapılan kayı;tlar sırasında grup elemanları stüdyodan hiç ayrılmadılar, uykusuz kaldılar, uyuşturucu kullandılar ve uyuyacakları zaman aletlerin arasında çadır kurdular. Tüm bunların sonunda albümün tamamlanmasına az kala Daisy Berkowitz gruptan ayrıldı, yerine Zim Zum alındı.

8 Ekim 1995’da piyasaya sürülen albüm ilk haftada 132.000 sattı. Albümde sosyal eleştiri oldukça yoğundu. Küfürrler az ama saldırı  çk daha fazlaydı.

Marilyn Manson: “Bu albüm kendileri için yarattıkları günahlardan dolayı Tanrının Amerika’ya gönderdiği ceza olacak, ve umarım ben Hristiyanlığı sona erdirmiş adam olarak anılacağım.”

Mechanical Animals

“Mechanical Animals”da “Antichrist Superstar”ın içerdiği ruh haline göre white bir albümdü. Bu albümde Marilyn Manson kafayı uyuşturuculara takmıştı;. Ayrıca 10 yıldır simya ve tarot dersleri alan Manson bu yönünü albüme yansıttı.” Mechanical Animals”daki harfleri karıştırdığınızda karşınıza “Marilyn Manson is An Alchemical Man” cümlesi çıkıyordu. Manson’ın yeni imajı ise “Omega”ydı.

 Albün kapağının Amerika’daki bazı müzik marketlerde sansürlenmesi bu albüme gelen en komik tepkiydi. Aslında bu albüm çok fazla saldı;rı; da içermiyordu, hatta daha çok Marilyn Manson’ın kendisiyle ilgiliydi.Özellikle uyuşturucu sorunu ençok işlenen konuydu ki buna da en iyi örnek “Coma White” diyebiliriz.

Albümün hazırlanma açamasında grup elemanları çok göz önündeydi. Devamlı dergilere kapak olmuşlar ve albüm hakkında hiç bir giz bırakmamacasına konuşmuşlardı. Marilyn Manson “Mechanical Animals”ı David Bowie’nin “Ziggy Stardust”ına benzetiyordu ve yine ona göre grup olarak da “Tin Machine” gibiydiler.

“Rock is Dead”in  “Matrix” in soundtrack parçası olması ve “Coma White” ın klibinde Manson’ın eski sevgilisi (nam-ı diğer Jawbreaker) Rose Mcgowan’ın oynaması albüme popülerlik katan unsurlardı ve bunun  bazı hayranların pek hoşuna gitmediği de söylenebilir.

Holy Wood

Manson’ı;n şu an piyasada ki son albümü Holy Wood. Aslında” Mechanical Animals” ile “Holy Wood” arasında bir de konser kayıtlarından oluşan albümleri “The Last Tour On Earth” var, bu albümde daha önce Manson albümlerinde yayınlanmamış olan sadece 2 parça var; “Astonshing Panorana of the Endtimes” ve “Get My Rocks Off”.

Son haberlere göre Marilyn Manson’ın son albümü olan “Holy Wood”un  albüm kapağı nedeniyle satışı durdurulmuş. Ama zaten Marilyn Manson’da bunu önceden düşünüp çoktan alternatif albüm kapakları yapmışlar. Ayrıca yine “Disposable Teens”in klibinde Marilyn Manson’ın papa kılığına girmesi tepki alan diğer bir olay.

Albüm 19 parçadan oluşuyor ve dört bölüme ayrılmış: “In The Shadow”, “The Androgyne”, “Of Read Earth”, “The Fallen”.

Albümden çıkan diğer bir klip ise "Fight Song" için çekilen oldu. Mtv'de şu ana kadar en çok çıkan Marilyn Manson videolarından biri olduğu söylenebilir.

Son günlerde ise "Tainted Love" cover'ı için çekilen videolarına gündüz saatleri dahil sık sık rastlanabiliyor. Hatta pop listlere girmiş durumda bu parça ve Number One'da dahi görebiliyoruz.

Marilyn Manson 30 yaşına kadar öleceğini tahmin ediyordu, hala yaşıyor ve değişiyor Manson herkes ve hepimiz gibi. Belki içindekileri döküyor artık bir bir ve 30 yaşında ölmeye değil 50 yaşında huzurlu bir adam olmaya hazırlanıyor Brian Warner. Tıpkı diğer eski asiler gibi.

Marilyn Manson - Tourniquet -

Voodoo, black magic or Satanism, call it what you like, the gruesomely shocking results have scandalized the residents of Arona and have angered and horrified the relatives of those whose bodies have been desecrated by some profoundly unbalanced individuals.

No, don't "call it what you like." Find out what it is. Don't just go randomly slurring nonmainstream religions.

This is far from being the first time that Arona cemetery has been the object of Satanist cults, but it is far and away the worst.
On previous occasions candles, coins and the remains of chickens have been found by the rear wall, evidence of bizarre nocturnal rituals.

"Coins and the remains of chickens" sounds like some sort of traditional (but fringe) African diaspora sorcery, not Satanism. Such sorcery is not the same thing as Voudoun, either. Voudoun traditionally does involve animal sacrifice. But the sorcerers who dig up dead human bodies and steal body parts are condemned by mainstream Voudoun. The cemetery-desecrating sorcerers are a hated and feared fringe.

All the incidents described in this article are most likely the work of either (1) traditional (but fringe) African diaspora sorcerers or (2) daredevil kids imitating the sorcerers.

Another time I viewed a satanist group profile on Facebook. It was not scary, but I felt scared, which was really odd. Again, I prayed to God to help me through this fear, and I felt better. I joined the group to post a couple of my evangelistic video tracts. The next day, I got a message from the administrator asking me to take my video down. I replied that he can take it down himself. The next day it was taken down, and I left the group.

I think that there are demons in cyberspace.

There are positive feelings in cyberspace too. I like it when people post nice comments on my profile. Some profiles I visit in Facebook and Friendster make me feel happy. There are angels in cyberspace too.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, the important thing to remember is that Jesus Christ defeated Satan by paying for our sins on the cross. If we have repented and believed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, then we have been redeemed, and therefore are now adopted sons of God. For this reason we can boldly pray to our Heavenly Father. It is written:

John 1:12-13 "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

Our Heavenly Father will always look after us. It is written:

Rom 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."

Now, apparently, this chick (maybe it's a guy, I just read it I with a chick's voice in mind) ) http://gracetapestries.wordpress.com/2008/04/03/christ-living-in-you/ thinks that Christianity isn't a religion, but rather, as stuck-up Christians* love to say, "a relationship with Christ."

Another circular argument. As she says...

"Christianity is not a religion. Well, if it's not a religion then what is it? It is an Indwelling. It is the indwelling life of Jesus Christ, living out His life in every believer, on this day, April 3, 2008 and every day forward, from now and through all eternity. And that's the Gospel truth!"

She then goes on to quote scripture, as if it has value beyond entertainment value (and the occasional clever line).

She then says Christians don't follow a moral code, do rituals, etc., they just hear voices of 2,000 year old men inside their heads.

Well, naturally, I disagree with this, as Christianity not only matches the dictionary definition of "religion," but also of "cult." Let me show you why.

First, let's see that definition of "religion" again.

"a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs"

Now let's see if Christianity has all the necessary parts of a religion.

"A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe..." - Christians believe that God caused the universe, rules over it, and that the purpose of the universe is to worship God. So Christianity does have the first necessary component of a religion.

"Involving devotional and ritual observances" - Christians have many devotional and ritual observances, including the attendance of mass, praying, and fasting for Lent. So it has that part, too.

"Often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs" - I don't know how the earlier linked lady thinks that Christianity doesn't have a code of conduct. It has the ten commandments as well as the teachings of Jesus (or whoever wrote his story) that they (pretend to?) live by. Catholics additionally have things like "the social sins" (see my earlier post "The Pope's Dumbass New Sins").

So, Christianity has all the components of a religion.

What about a cult, though?

"Great veneration for an ideal, person, etc." - Great veneration of Jesus as perfect and the son of God. Bada bing badda boom - cult. It isn't classified as one, though, because cults are traditionally considered underground movements, not mainstream like Christianity.

On a parting note, is Christianity even a relationship? Again, Dictionary.com says a relationship is

"a connection, association, or involvement."

Now, this is really a subjective thing - for someone like me, who doesn't believe in God or think that Jesus ever even existed, it's a hoax where people "cold read themselves." Someone involved in this hoax, however, will believe they can feel a connection or whatever.

So, Christians can consider it a relationship, but normal people can't, really.

Well, sorry Christians - turns out that your religion... is a religion. Tough.

It’s a rebuttal of sorts to someone who said God is a narcissist – it sort of reminded me of that time I called God an asshole. lol The post itself isn’t that great – it’s just a circular argument about how God isn’t a narcissist because he really is better than us.

Well, God is an asshole, a torturer, and a masochist, but is he a narcissist, too? Let’s explore this…

First off, let’s define narcissist. Not because I think you’re stupid, but because not everyone knows weird-ass words like that. A narcissist is someone who is obsessed with him or herself and thinks they are better than everyone and that everyone else should worship them (not literally, except in the case of God or maybe Jim Jones).

As I first stated in my first post*, “Fuck the Ten Commandments,” God is clearly obsessed with self-gratification. Really, he has a chance to tell us anything he wants, anything, and he says “Don’t misuse my name” and “Worship me!”

The Old Testament also commands that if one of your friends or family members wants to worship a different god, you should kill them immediately.

That is classic narcissistic behavior – God claims to be the greatest thing to ever exist and wants everyone to spend their entire lives sucking up to him because he is so much better than them.

I’d say that’s pretty damn narcissistic.

The men, members of a local band called Necronomichrist, each filed complaints with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination last month.

They say Athol leaders prohibited them from playing at fundraisers for a local skate park because some band members are Satanists, agnostics, Buddhist and atheist.

Town selectmen approved a written rebuttal Tuesday and will send it to the agency this week.

The town's attorney says the concerns had nothing to do with religion. He says the event organizers did not invite the band because they worried its hardcore music could be inappropriate for children.

“As a believer our aim is not to prove that God exists even the bible does not aim to do this but assumes God’s existence. God has given enough evidence to show but not to take away all doubt. It is not a lack of evidence why people dont believe but a desire to do their own thing. God could if He wanted give evidence to prove His existence but that would defeat the whole point of choice God doesnt just require us to believe but to know Him.”

I would now like to discuss WHY God doesn’t just come out and reveal himself.

Coll’s comment is a great example of the only response Christians have to the question – “Because it would inhibit our choice to accept or reject him.” Umm… how?

The story of Satan says that Satan was once an angel, but rejected God and was banished to Hell, where he now dwells, torturing people and fucking with people up here in our world.

An angel would know beyond any doubt at all that God exists – God would be right there in front of him! God would be a part of everyday life, like cars are to us.But Satan rejected God knowing beyond a doubt that God was real. As you can see from the myth of Satan, God could reveal himself and become a part of our everyday lives, something we know is real. And we could still choose to accept or reject him, like Satan did.

So, again, why doesn’t God just reveal himself and end this once and for all?

 What if once he was crucified, nothing happened. Turns out he was just a man, a mistaken, possibly disturbed man.

His followers - suffering from denial and hallucinations - could have spread rumors of his rising from the grave and their own salvation. They could pull it off - if you threw away your family, friends, and possessions and put all of your eggs in Jesus's basket and then nothing happened, wouldn't you be embarrassed and in denial?

Really, think about it. Doesn't that sound like the basis for many modern cults? Isn't that a legitimate possibility (as if Jesus as a historical person is a legitimate possibility)?

Gen 1:26-27 “And God said, Let us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. The word “image” is used several times, and Hebrew word that is used is:

צלם (tseh'-lem)
From an unused root meaning to shade; a phantom, that is, (figuratively) illusion, resemblance; hence a representative figure, especially an idol: - image, vain shew.

This word is used when describing something that looks like something else. For example, a life-like statue of a person resembles a person but is not an exact copy of that person. Another example is a picture of a person on TV, which is an illusion that looks like that person but is not the actual person. Likewise, in the context that is used in these verses, we look like God, but are not God.

The following verse warns against believing that we are God, or can become God.

Gen 3:4-5 “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

In Gen 3:5, the Hebrew word used for “gods” is the same Hebrew word used for “God”, which is “Elohim”, which refers to the Creator, as this is the same word used for God in Gen 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” Gen 3:4-5 are uttered by the serpent, who is Satan, who is a deceiver. It is written: Rev 12:9 “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” It is therefore Satan who lies to us by saying that we can be God.  

I say to those of you who believe in this lie of Satan: Repent! Turn away from your sin, reject sin, and choose to obey God! Believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ paid the price of our sins, so that we are saved from the punishment for our rebellion against God, which is everlasting torment in Hell!  

John 3:16-19 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

The opportunity to do this is closing! You do not know when you will die, and after you die you will be judged, and then the opportunity to repent will have closed. It is written:

Heb 9:27-28 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”

Unfortunately, it is hard for someone who believes that the Bible is literal, historic truth to understand that not everything everyone says is literal.

Wow. Just look at that length - we are obviously dealing with a hateful bigot here with one hell of an agenda.

Now, you could look at my own blog and point out that I've said things like "god is an asshole" or "christians annoy me," bur I've always tried to back up such statements and many of my comments - like god is an asshole - are meant as sarcasm or irony and are humorous in context.

Angryxtian's above words read in context the way they do out of context - hateful and uninformed.

Summarily, Angryxtian's previously recounted argument is hypocritical, abundant with straw men and ad hominems, and completely avoiding the issue he is pretending to address.

Here's what Dawkins actually meant.

The book "The Selfish Gene" is Dawkin's brilliant idea that we are programmed with "selfish genes" - genes that program us to do all we can to help them reproduce and stay in existence because they are "selfish" and just care about their own survival and reproduction.

That is why, for example, we are so close to our family members - we are programmed that way because we know that they share our genes and we try to take special care of them and be close to them because they can keep our selfish genes reproducing.

What Dawkins meant was that a reason we don't share sexual partners is that our genes know that doing so would help OTHER genes reproduce and stay in existence when our selfish genes only want to reproduce themselves and keep themselves in existence.

By this sentence, Dawkins doesn't mean "you are being a selfish person if you don't share sex partners," he means "our selfish genes don't incline us to share sex partners because doing so doesn't preserve our own genes and preserves other genes instead."

It took place at the Columbine massacres and one of the two involved boys was making his rounds, shooting students and teachers when he ran into some Christian chick - he tells her to deny Jesus and she lives. "No!" yells the foolish girl.

Girl dies, gets buried, doesn't have a conscious mind with which to realize there is no afterlife, and so on and so forth.

Now here's the (extra?) disturbing part - our teacher said that this girl was some sort of example or role model for us.

Come ooooon. Really, if she denied Jesus, couldn't she just go to reconciliation and get forgiven for it? Actually, I know a girl that probably would have said "no" - she's kind of stupid and she is a huge bitch.

Not to say that the dead girl was stupid and a bitch, but that happens to be the kind of person who would yell "No!" with a Glock in her face.

Let's examine this further.

Now, to be dumb enough to say "no,” I am expecting this girl had a few key personality traits/beliefs in common with this less-than-genius girl I think would also say “no”:

1. She was probably defiant and bossy and was just really pissed off that someone had the sheer balls to tell her to do anything
2. She probably thought beyond a reasonable doubt that she would end up in heaven
3. She had probably been raised to think that her religion made her better than other people, i.e. she was probably fundamentalist.
4. She probably wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box, so to speak.
5. She was probably proud of herself for being a Christian.

Actually, I am pretty sure that this story is just some Christian lie to show how dedicated their kids are, but still, even if it is a lie, it raises an interesting question – what kind of person would have said no?

Actually, Anton LaVey addresses this argument in his seminal work "The Satanic Bible," when he is discussing the effectiveness of magic, ritual, and prayer.

He says that ritual is better than prayer because those who pray have anxiety and are always looking for results to validate their beliefs. People that pray automatically chalk up anything good that happens as "God's blessing as a result of prayer."

Maybe I'll buy into prayer when I can drop a quarter and enough praying can stop it from falling.

There are many experiments that show that prayer doesn't work - the most recent one is the foolish couple who prayed for their daughter to recover from diabetes instead of giving her medical treatment. Naturally, the girl died.

I maintain that all of your questions have been answered except for the first one since no one, no matter their religion, can make an overnight recovery.

I made three separate comments on how I have no objection to consensual incest between adults, and he eventually acknowledged my point of view.

Now, since I'm sure some athiests are against incest, let's discuss this - is incest immoral?

I say no because, quite simply, it is consesual sex between two adults, and that's really all that matters to me. That the two are consenting and that they be adults (or two teens, but no mix of the two like 1 teen/1 adult since that constitutes rape) is all that matters, whatever you wanna do beyond that, hell, do it!
