The Newry Go Team started with me and Carla watching the entire opening ceremony of the Olympics, al

The Newry Go Team started with me and Carla watching the entire opening ceremony of the Olympics, all 4 hours of it! Not something I'll be doing any time soon. The rest of the team didn't arrive until Saturday night, so there wasn't a great deal going on. I did see a poster advertising activities during the week in a shop in a Newry though, I was impressed.

On Sabbath we had lunch in the church hall, followed by a prayer time at a view point on top of the city. Then it started raining so we headed back to the Murphey's. At evening worship the whole Southern Presbytery was there, I'd never seen Newry so full (seriously).

Our main outreach work was giving out literature and running 2 children's clubs. On the literature side of things, we were giving out 3250 4you.ie magazines (someone nabbed the other 750!). I still don't like the name, the articles within are much better.

The children's clubs ran from Monday to Thursday, and as in previous years, were held in the Mourneview and Greenfields estates. Numbers picked up as the week went on, with about 30 children between the clubs by Thursday. Some of the children were disruptive at times, making telling the story at diffucult, but for the most part we got on fine. I'd post some pictures if any existed...

On Monday and Tuesday evenings we did door to door work in the two estates where the clubs had been running, and this was an encouraging time, especially on Monday. On Wednesday we had the children's club in the afternoon because of the rain in the morning, but this turned out to be a blessing rather than a hindrance as way more kids came along ("Why did yous come at 11 anyway, we're all sleeping then.."). Before lunch some members of the team sung psalms in Newry town city centre for about half an hour. Got a few weird looks, but some people did sit and listen. That evening there was a cookery demonstration, with a short epilogue. I can't say much about it as I wasn't there, but apparently 50 people came along, which is class. And way more than was expected.

[caption id="attachment_501" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="Psalm Singers (note the Go Team t-shirts - click to enlarge)"][/caption]

Our sleeping arrangements were the guys at Sam and Dot's, with the girls and Rodney and Ruth's. Suited me, I got a double bed, a fry and plenty of words of wisdom from Dot. In the evenings we went to different members' houses for tea. Well on two nights anyway.

Friday consisted of more open air psalm singing in the morning and a car wash in the afternoon. About 10 people not associated with the Church got their cars washed, and most of them came into the hall for coffee and a chat. One guy stayed for two hours.

The RP website lists Newry as being "Without Pastor", and while this probably is strictly true, fear not, for they are going to be very much "With Pastor" in the near future. It's all quite exciting really. Keep praying for the members of the congregation to get more involved, and that in time, more will be added to their number.

It really was a fantastic week.

As I do my best to be the person God has created me to be (best husband, best dad, best friend, best

As I do my best to be the person God has created me to be (best husband, best dad, best friend, best pastor, etc.), I am discovering more and more how the little things matter, and how the “little” foxes can spoil the vine (see Song of Solomon 2:15).

I am discovering more and more how God desires to be involved in the smallest detail of our lives. I don’t mean to sound super-spiritual, but those little things do matter in the grand scheme of things. That nudging in your spirit to go and share some good news with the person at the checkout could have eternal significance.

There have been times in my life where I felt the need to “do” something and just blown it off. I have had to do a lot of repenting over missed opportunities. Let’s face it, there are some opportunities that once they are gone, THEY ARE GONE! If we become more sensitive to that still, small voice of God, how much more impact could we have for the kingdom of God? Maybe today, it does matter which gas station you go to for gas and/or coffee. Maybe God would have you drive across town and out of your way on a kingdom assignment.

I may be the only one feeling this way right now, but I know I am close to God doing something amazing because I feel like I have been battling the command center of the enemy for the past few days/weeks. And I firmly believe the enemy fights us the hardest just before our biggest breakthrough.

I keep hearing the conversation Jesus was having with Simon Peter in Luke 22- Luke
31 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to have all of you, to sift you like wheat .
32 But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen and build up your brothers."

It amazes me that God has all this figured out and He is just asking me to trust Him. I don’t have to figure it all out (and Man, I sure do want to get it all figured out at times). I just have to trust Him. He has me. So God, I will continue to walk through this fire if You want me to. And I just want to have this wrote down as a reminder that on August 24, 2008, I told God, “All I have is Yours.” I don’t have a back-up plan. I have counted the cost, and I am going after God. Will you go with me?

Until next time...

Specifically, Exchange 2003. No, I wasn’t referring to a totally cool totally secret exchange

Specifically, Exchange 2003. No, I wasn't referring to a totally cool totally secret exchange of information over the internet. Oh wait. I was. Some people get all excited about a sweet new car, like when the RX-8 came out, or the latest Challenger concept. For me, that new car feeling applies to network services.

Ok, so Exchange 2003 isn't new. Still a great mail platform though.

Many people use pop mail to access mail provided by their ISP or office. Even more use webmail to access mail provided by free online providers. Some, albeit a smaller group of people, use Outlook. Not pop, or webmail, or imap. Outlook.

Outlook 2003 (when used in conjunction with Exchange 2003) introduced a very handy new protocol for us office on-the-go type users. Instead of stripping away functionality in order to operate over a limited protocol like pop, or imap, or a server-side-only webmail, it can use Exchange-over-RPC.

Exchange-over-RPC is essentially like using a vpn tunnel to connect to your work network, but it only connects you to your exchange server. By using this protocol, we can get the full functionality of on-side Exchange access, from anywhere in the world. For users who need to have mailbox, calender, contacts, tasks, and all that good stuff synced between the home and work offices, this is the best solution I've seen yet. And for those of us who use a blackberry or other exchange-capable devices, having persistent data is a beautiful thing.

Exchange-over-RPC uses an RPC Proxy service to relay all communication between the client and the server (or servers; it is capable of function in a front-end/back-end scenario). The RPC Proxy is nice because it initially exposes only the port of the website it's functioning from. This means that only the SSL port is exposed to the public (port 443), if you're using SSL for this service, ensuring encrypted RPC communication. When using SSL, you can ensure 2 things:
Clients cannot connect without using SSL.
Clients cannot connect without trusting your certificate authority.
Only clients with permissions can connect to the RPC Proxy.

Oh, just a note: this works best when used with 'Cached Exchange Mode'. Clearly, since that means all exchange data is cached locally, allowing minimal communication with the server.

Thanks to the PDC crash, I had the opportunity to set this up multiple times, and learned a few things about the potential complications this system can cause.
Clients that were active on a server that has crashed will need to be cleaned before connecting to the new server. Fortunately this just requires deleting the local exchange cache and deleting the outlook profile.
Missing a single port in the configuration of the RPC Proxy can break the whole setup. Even one digit in the port, or a misnamed FQDN.

Other than that, it's fairly quick to setup, and works very smoothly thereafter!

There exists a set of RPC (Remote Procedure Call) functions exposed by WSS which you can make use of

There exists a set of RPC (Remote Procedure Call) functions exposed by WSS which you can make use of in your applications, through a means of HTTP POST calls. You can find more detailed information about them , and the methods they expose here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms954090.aspx

One of them which I find really handy is the GetProjSchema function, which can be used to extract the XML definition used when creating a particular WSS site. For instance, you execute the command like so:

http://intranet/sites/somesite/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=GetProjSchema

This will essentially return the onet.xml file, the definition used to create the 'somesite', web.

Nice! You can use this to easily work out what template was applied to the site, etc - without needing to log onto the server. There's a bunch of other cool things you can do with the RPC commands, go check them out in more detail on MSDN.

1. The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, the only inerrant, perf

1. The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, the only inerrant, perfect rule of faith and deed.

2. There is only one God, and man shall worship Him alone. God is the spirit, self-existent, and omnipresent, distinguishing Himself from all other gods and the created beings. God is infinite, eternal and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness justice, goodness and love.

3. There is three Persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; He is the Triune God, one in Trinity, equal in power and glory.

4. God created all things visible and invisible by the power of His Word, and preserve and governs them, but God in His nature causes no sin. He acts all things by His plan according to His own will and governs all things to fulfill His purpose that is good, wise and holy.

5. God created man, after His own image in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness with dominion over every living thing. All men of the world are of sole source. That is same native and brother.

6. Our first parents, being left to the freedom to choose between good and evil through the temptation, transgressed the commandment of God. Adam is our federal head, chosen by God to represent all of humanity. As a result, all mankind, descending from Adam by ordinary generation sinned in him and fell with him in his transgression. We sin because we are sinners, living according to the patterns of this world. We commit sins of omission and commission. Therefore, we are justly liable to God's just displeasure and punishment in this world and that which is to come.

7. God sent His eternal, uniquely begotten Son, Jesus Christ to the world to save man from sin, the corruption and the punishment thereof and to give eternal life in His infinite love. In Jesus Christ God became flesh and through Him alone can man be saved. The eternal Son became true man and possessed two distinct persons in His nature. He is eternally as true God and true man, in two distinct natures and one person forever. He, being conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the womb of the Virgin Mary, of her substance and satisfied divine justice. For the purpose of reconciliation between God and man. He was crucified on the cross, died and buried. On the third day, He arose again from the dead. He is sitting on the right hand of God making intercession for His people. From there He shall come for the resurrection of the dead, and to judge the world.

8. The Holy Spirit being out of God the Father and God the Son, works salvation in man, convicts man of his sin and misery. He enlightens man's heart to know Christ and renews man's will, exhorting and empowering him to accept Jesus Christ who offers man the Gospel in grace freely. He also works in us to bear the fruit of God's righteousness.

9. Before God created the world, He elected in His love His own people to make them holy and blameless, predestined and adopted His children through Jesus Christ according to His pleasure and will, to the praise of the glory of His grace bestowed freely in one He loves. However, the perfect salvation offered freely so ordered to all mankind that they may repent their sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, rest upon Him and follow Him, obey the revealed will of God, be humble and conduct themselves in holiness, to the extent that whoever believe in Christ and is obedient unto Him shall be saved. The particular benefits that are accompanied with justification, adoption as God's children, sanctification and glorification are for the believers who are assured with God's salvation and joy in this world. The means of the grace are the Bible, sacraments and prayer in particular.

10. The sacraments instituted by Christ are baptism and holy communion; baptism of washing with water is to be administered in the name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is the sign and seal of joining in union with Christ, and the promise for our regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit and God's possession of us. Baptism shall be administered to those who make confession of faith in Christ, and to their children. Holy Communion as partaking of the bread and the cup shall be served in remembrance of Christ's death, and in the witness of the seal for the benefit derived from Christ's death with which the believers are in union. Holy Communion shall be observed by God's people until the Day of the Lord's coming, and is a sign of a promise of more faithful service unto the Lord and a sign of communion with the Lord and His people, who believe in Him, and rest upon His atonement from which God's benefit flows to us. The benefits of the sacraments are not found in the sacraments themselves or any virtue of him by whom the sacraments are being administered, but only in the blessing by Christ and the working of the Holy Spirit in those whom by faith receive the sacraments.

11. All believers shall dutifully join in church membership with instruction, have fellowship with one another among the believers, observe the sacraments and other ordinances, obey all the laws of the Lord, pray always, observe the Lord's Day holy, assemble with believers to worship the Lord and listen attentively to the preaching of the Word of God, render offerings as God provides us abundantly, share with one another the mind of Christ, share also the same mind with all other people, endeavor to promote the expansion of the Kingdom of Christ upon the whole world, and wait expectantly for the appearance of the Lord in His glory.

12. The dead shall receive the reward according to the good and evils done in this world before the judgment seat of Christ when they will be resurrected in the last day. Those who believe in Christ, and are obedient unto Him shall be truly forgiven and accepted by Him in glory.

Welcome to Rock! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope this site will prove helpful in encouraging you and learning more about what our church is about, which is furthering the Kingdom of God through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our church is full of differences: we have different ethnicities, different homes and backgrounds, different family status, different politics, and different callings in life. We are young and old, single and married, successful and loan-strapped students. But the one thing that brings us back together each week, the one thing we can enjoy radical unity around, is our shared condition of being baptized, blood-bought disciples of King Jesus. This is our only comfort in life and death, and we hope you'll join us in learning this more and more.

There have been a lot of changes and new additions at Rock lately. Its an exciting time to be a part of this church, and we'd like to invite you to come check us out. Whether you've been a Christian for a long time and are looking for a church, or are just beginning to think about God and spirituality, we would love to get know you, enjoy a meal together, and encourage you.

Here at Rock Presbyterian Church, we want to go deep into the Bible. The resources at this site are meant to help you toward that same goal. If you ever have any questions about our church, what we're about, or just to discuss how life is going, shoot me an email! Remember my door, erm, ... inbox, is always open! I'd love to talk with you, exchange emails, or get together over a cup of coffee.

In my first article we covered the issues of server side session management and the benefits from a server perspective of session data being managed client side within a browser. These benefits are mainly technology related, but what about the user benefits? Yes faster more responsive applications can be achieved with client side session management, but from a user perspective the ability to share data across applications would be very powerful indeed.

The concept of being able to share data across disparate applications is not new, indeed as a windows programmer I've gone through the journey of DDE (dynamic data exchange), OLE (Object Linking Embedding), COM etc... However windows also had other mechanisms such as Global Atoms (anyone remember those ?) as well as traditional approaches like local databases or files.

However a browser based model is more difficult because of the sandbox security model. A server based solution does exist in the Java world this is the area of WSRP and Portlets. WSRP allows portlets to publish data to other portlets using standard interfaces. So if you had a window with a directory of your contacts listed, you might click on a name and your other windows (portlets) would respond by bringin back data about the person you clicked on.

Again however, if only browser developers would open their eye's to client side session management, we could have very dynamic applications WITHOUT portlets and the server side overheads associated with portlets. (Remember a portal view of 5 portlets, means 5 times the number of sessions being managed by the server - hmmm you thought you had redundancy and performance licked until you deployed portlets ;o)

So how could this be done? I'm sure there are a number of ways, but if it's been done before and worked well then I'm all for plagarising. Global Atoms ;o) Basically you should be able to define a global variable and provide a publish/subscribe model for that data item. This then would allow you to share data across browser applicatons (a bit like Google auto fill, but with application definable fields).

The consequence? We reduce carbon footprints whilst creating more dynamic applications.

Google Open Source Blog:

Google Open Source Blog:

Apache License 2.0

Protocol Buffers.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Ryan Stewart’s Flex SEO contest (also known as the “Fleximagically Searchable” contest). As I posted earlier, I believe the best and correct method for “making Flash indexable” is not to index Flash at all, but rather to index the data. I spent a lot of time thinking about how I could get Google to index my content but link to my Flex application and I finally found a mechanism to do this! However, upon very close reading of Ryan’s rules I see that he specifically does not want this solution—he wants the content to be indexed by Googlebot “interacting” with the application.

That’s just silly.

For data-driven sites—which would be most Web sites with Flex front-ends—this is an completely artificial restriction. The only place where this would make any sense is for applications that do not dynamically load content, but rather dynamically generate content, such as for client-side mash-ups. Additionally, according to Google “if your Flash file loads an HTML file, an XML file, another SWF file, etc., Google will separately index that resource, but it will not yet be considered to be part of the content in your Flash file.” That implies that dynamically loaded content must be RPC-based (and binary?) to be considered part of your SWF (as Ryan Stewart desires) instead of a separate resource. Yuck!

I will continue with my planned solution because demonstrating the technique and learning how well it works for SEO will provide valuable information for the community.

Finally, I’d like to announce that I’ve purchased the domain fleximagicallysearchable.com for this contest1. There is nothing there now, but I would like to turn it into a blog or user forum for discussing Flex SEO strategies and make it a resource that lives beyond this contest, continuing to be useful in the future by providing tutorials and covering the emerging best practices for Flash and Flex SEO.

1 Not to be confused with fleximagically-searchable.com, which is owned by zedia.net.

data = getData(objectID)
