10 Cheesy Movies I Love... and two bonus features

This is a list, off the top of my head, of 10 totally cheesy (for one reason or another) movies I completely love. It's great mindless entertainment watching these and I never, repeat, never, get tired of them. You might shake your head at me, wondering about my sanity in picking these gems, but really... I dare YOU not to like them. You don't have to say it out loud either. You can keep the fact that you like them too to yourself. It's OK. But, you like them. I know it. And, even if you don't, watch and make fun. That's part of the joy of watching these films anyway. The temperatures are going up, so... grab some popcorn, turn up the air conditioning, throw one of these bad boys in, and prepare to be entertained! Say cheese....

Fools Rush In

I don't know what it is about this movie, but I love it. Whenever this is on, I'll watch it. Very cheesy, but so good.

Roxanne

I've watched this so much I can quote most of the dialogue. It's such a great, funny, feel good kind of movie. "Worms Roxanne, worms!"

Love at First Bite

This one is so silly it gets me. I laugh through the whole thing. "With you, never a quickie, always a longie." LOL How can you not laugh?

Kuffs

I think, with this one, it's his little dancing around thing he does in this movie. This has never gotten anything close to good ratings, but you know, who cares about ratings. To me this is pure cheese ball entertainment.

High Anxiety

Mel Brooks at his cool kooky-est. This movie, for anyone who likes Hitchcock films, which I happen to love, is a must see. Too funny.

Princess Bride

Probably my favorite movie of all time. Love, action, silliness, good acting, and loads of cheese... all in one film. You might have to watch this one twice.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Women power, storytelling inside the movie, Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, and some good writing, once again.

Big Trouble in Little China

How can you not like this movie? I've seen it probably a hundred times and I still watch it every chance I get.

Dream a Little Dream

One of those great 80's movies that, for some reason, I totally love. Maybe it's because I have a spot in my heart for soft shoe. Nah, it's probably just because Jason Robards is in it.

The Golden Child

"I want the knife. GIve me the knife. Pllleeeeeaaaasse." I might have gotten some of that wrong, but it's the gist of it. This one is so completely corny, and not all that well done, but who cares. I love the little kid in this.

Bonus round....

The Lost Boys

I was compiling the list just now and then remembered, when I got all done with it, that I love this movie. Probably one of the cheesiest vampire films of all time, but so totally cool. How can you not love Jason Patric's angst or the over the top acting of who turns out to be the head vampire. Oh yeah, and Kiefer Sutherland is in it.

Long Kiss Goodnight

And lastly, yet another great movie I forgot to add to the list, hence the addition of this just added bonus feature. Samuel L. Jackson and Geena Davis have some great exchanges in this movie. They keep me laughing. Nothing like the whole, "I'm not talking about the linen", exchange... it's funny, and terrific.

The Police Ride Off Into the Sunset

151 shows later and $358,825,665 richer, The Police have wrapped up their final tour, capping it off with a final performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Thursday night. The band played many of their all time greatest hits on their set list including: Message in a Bottle, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, Roxanne and Every Breath You Take. They also played covers of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" and Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love". The tour was the third highest grossing tour of all time according to Billboard Magazine.

The final gross puts it only behind the Rolling Stones’ 2005-2007 A Bigger Bang tour ($558 million), and U2’s 2005-2007 Vertigo tour ($389 million), and ahead of the Stones’ 1994-95 Voodoo Lounge tour ($320 million), according to Boxscore.

Bassist/vocalist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland began the proceedings with a surprise cover of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love." Afterward, the New York Police Department band augmented normal set-opener "Message in a Bottle."

There was only an intermittent amount of sentimentality to the show, with Sting at one point telling the crowd, "It's been a huge honor to get back with my good friends. The real triumph of this tour is that we haven't strangled each other -- that doesn't mean it hadn't crossed my mind."

The tour, the band's first live performances since 1986, began May 28, 2007, in Vancouver and sold 3,300,912 tickets from 146 shows, plus five festivals, according to Live Nation.

I never had the opportunity to see The Police live. A major part of that may have been the high ticket prices for this final tour. If only we could go back to the days when you could actually afford to go see your favorite bands play. Thoughts?

Extraños especímenes oropesinos

Hace dos noches tuve la ocasión de asistir a un curioso fenómeno en el pub Roxanne de Oropesa del Mar. Fui allí con mi hermana y su novio para charlar un rato en la que sería nuestra última noche juntos por este año en la playa y nuestra sorpresa fue que en esos momentos eramos los únicos clientes en el establecimiento. Por no haber no había ni música puesta, y el dueño tras la barra veía una película con tiros y explosiones que en esos momentos estaban poniendo en La 2.

Para nosotros mejor, pues aunque la música que suelen poner en este lugar es de mi agrado a veces el volumen impide mantener una charla con tranquilidad. Lo que hicimos fue ponernos en la terraza acristalada que hay con aire acondicionado y tomarnos allí un par de coca-colas.

Cuando nos debía quedar aproximadamente un cuarto de la bebida aparecieron dos tipos ya mayorcitos (sobre treinta años) que entraron en el interior y salieron a los pocos segundos con un vaso cada uno en la mano. Por su aire misterioso y hermético los llamaremos de ahora en adelante X e Y.

La terraza estaba completamente vacía: de las ocho mesas que podría haber la única ocupada era la nuestra, y dio la casualidad de que X e Y se sentaron justo en la mesa contigua a nosotros. Tampoco es que representara ningún problema, pues no somos antisociales (más bien todo lo contrario) y nos llevamos bien con cualquier persona, pero algunos gestos de estos dos tipos nos empezaron a llamar la atención.

X e Y no cruzaban palabra alguna. Uno de ellos sacó un teléfono móvil del bolsillo y comenzó a utilizarlo. Parecía estar escribiendo un SMS o algo así, pero tras un rato de “trasteo” lo dejó sobre la mesa y éste comenzó a sonar. Lo que parecía una llamada de tantas se convirtió en un pensamiento por mi parte del estilo “debe ser que no lo quiere coger”, pero cuando pasó cerca de un minuto y el móvil seguía escupiendo notas de estilo pop indie a todo volumen por su altavoz ya empezamos a mirarnos entre nosotros tres buscando algún gesto de extrañeza; cosa que encontré tanto en la cara de mi hermana como en la de Joe.

A todo esto, X e Y seguían sin pronunciar palabra alguna en una actitud bastante surrealista. Fumaban sus cigarros, bebían de sus vasos sorbo a sorbo y movían la cabeza al ritmo de la música que ellos mismos se habían encargado de poner en un aparato que chirriaba como una vagoneta vieja. Sus miradas estaban dirigidas a puntos indefinidos del infinito y la verdad es que a mí me parecían más bien un par de autómatas sin rastro alguno de emociones humanas.

Pues bien, asumiendo que la cosa iba para largo, lo que hicimos en ese momento fue terminar nuestras bebidas a toda velocidad e irnos del local, pues el estridente sonido de aquel móvil estaba empezando a taladrar nuestros tímpanos. Joe tiene la teoría de que X e Y nos querían echar del Roxanne sin miramientos de ningún tipo; mi hermana piensa que eran unos poperos culturetas que no pueden estar en un sitio sin escuchar música ensimismados; y yo creo que aunque puede ser una mezcla de ambas cosas, principalmente es un problema de educación.

En fin, otro espécimen extraño que uno de vez en cuando se va encontrando por la vida. Nunca dejarán de sorprenderme las cosas que hacen algunas personas...

The reunited Police took a final bow last night at New York's Madison Square Garden, capping a 151-show tour that will finish as the third highest-grossing of all time with $358,825,665 at the box office, according to Billboard Boxscore.

Tickets could only be obtained via donation to local public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21.
