So we decided to head to a nightclub. Before she got to Basant Lok where I was waiting, she gave me a list of 4 places in the area I was to check out. Bar Code was nice, ambience was good, but the place was filled up with pool tables, and random bald headed beefy men shooting pool. Hash had an awesome dancefloor, with some of the best strobes I had seen. The song of choice: "Nagada Nagada". I ran as fast as my slippery-ankle ringed strappy sandals could take me. Opus was ok, with crowd doing a "train" sequence to an Eric Clapton. I almost threw up my diet coke, when Aditi arrived. We went to RPM, where I FINALLY heard "World hold on", and "Rise Up". The music started getting better and better. The crowd started getting more dull.

Delhi isnt kind to two women having a night out on their own. The guy who came alone, the one with the moustache, who kept staring at parts of us that didnt know could be looked at from someone siting to your 2 o clock. The short-haired girl who walked in with a long haired guy who gave us glanced of utter pity and gave her boyfriend a squeeze everytime she saw us, coz pity, what girl can come out without a guy? The Eastern European blonde with legs longer than long, in a skirt exactly 5 inches wide, with the 18 year old guy who had the word "Stud" written in gold and silver on the front of his maroon T-shirt (hoohboyh), who kept looking at us with undisguised interest, presuming our choice of sompany to extend to our sexual orentation (we know this coz we ACTUALLY heard the guy telling the girl "you never know, the other girl anyway looks like a guy - Aditi almost poked his eyes before i stuffed the hookah pipe in her mouth). The group of 4 girls (all in polka dots and puffed sleeves and skinny jeans and high heels - we named them "Spot Sisters :-)" ) who looked at us with PURE spite when the guy in white behind the bar offered to help us with our bags (they needn't have worried, coz we were not really interested in guys who drank "karronna" beer (its co-row-naa, honey) and embroidered shirts).

Anyway, we were by this time (two cocktails, and 3 change of coals to the hookah had passed) seriously worried about the inactivity of the crowd. part of me was worried that they were zombies and I was inadvertently a part of the desi plot of "the Night of the Living Dead", when suddenly I started to groan. You see, Emraan Hashmi and his tracks to tend to bring that out in me. Then Aditi franctically started pioiting towards the dance floor. And I realised this was more than just music. This was a voodoo spell. To bring back the crowd to life. Pity. I crumpled up the note Diti and I wrote to the DJ (a non-controversial note, in case you are reading this :-p) and walked out after 5 minutes.

The Black Russians were done to perfection, the fries just right, and the Cappuccino Hookah almost a dream (the smoothest i've ever had), but we headed to the nearest Baskin Robbins for some Bavarian Dark Chocolate Crunch, to drown my first "adult" brush with the New Delhi nightlife into something more paletable.

If music be the food of the soul, The place so far presented me with rancid leftovers of untouched recipies from a generation of experiments gone bad.

Começarei com o 4° Mampituba Open de Squash. Os outros campeonatos que participei este ano vou ficar devendo em função do tempo que já se passou entre estes campeonatos e a presente data.

O 4° Mapituba Open de Squash aconteceu no último fim de semana de maio. Os atletas foram recepcionados com uma temperatura de surpreendentes 4°C! Apesar da boa vontade de todos os atletas, muito tiveram dificuldade em esquentar as bolas e conseguirem botá-la ao fundo da quadra.

As quadras ficam localizadas num clube, o Mampituba, com uma boa infraestrutura no que se diz respeito às arquibancadas, banheiros e qualidade das paredes das quadras. Alguns pontos precisam ser observados. A iluminação não é tão boa quando comparada com outras quadras no estado e o piso estava um pouco escorregadio.

Houve bons jogos pra se assistir e fico feliz de ter participado de um campeonato onde o maior incidente foram pequenas discussões, nada assintosas, em relação à algumas bolas duvidosas. Um grande ponto positivo, pontualidade. Não houve atrasos, isso graças ao compromisso de cada jogador com o torneio, ao ajuste da pontuação dos jogos de duplas (1 game de 21 pontos PARS) e também ao número de inscritos.

Uma das alegrias sem dúvida foi o Coffe Break oferecido pelo promotor do evento Márcio Silvestre, que salvou a barriga de muita gente da miséria!

Pedro Mometto (Joinville/SC) confirmou mais uma vez que é atualmente o melhor jogador no estado e venceu o a 1ª classe do torneio. O segundo lugar ficou Germano Cioato de Caxias do Sul (RS). Duração do jogo: pouco menos que trinta minutos.

A minha performance deixou a desejar. O negócio é tomar vergonha na cara e levar bem mais a sério os treinamentos!

Damit wäre der Plot eigentlich schon beschrieben, hier aber nochmal - und etwas ausführlicher - auf deutsch:

Der New Yorker Polizist John McClane (Bruce Willis) lebt von seiner Frau Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) getrennt, weil die in L.A. einen Job in einem japanischen Unternehmen bekommen hat, das seinen Sitz im Nakatomi-Gebäude hat. Hier findet die Weihnachtsfeier statt, zu der McClane
in der von Hollys Boss Mr. Takagi (James Shigeta)
bestellten Limousine von Argyle (De'voreaux White) chauffiert wird. Als der Cop sich gerade im Büro seiner Frau befindet, kommt eine Gruppe bewaffneter Männer, angeführt von Hans Hruber (Alan Rickman) aus dem Aufzug und bringen alle Anwesenden in ihre Gewalt - aller außer John McClane, der die vermeindlichen Terroristen von ihren Vorhaben abhalten wird...
...

Bruce Willis zeigt sich hier als unkaputtbarer Einzelkämpfer, der sich immer wieder aufrappelt. Dem Zuschauer werden Action und Explosionen vom Feinsten geboten, was beweist, dass die aktuelle Filmtechnik keinesfalls Voraussetzung für Actionknaller ist. Für einige vielleicht widererwartend kann Stirb Langsam die meisten der in den letzten Jahren produzierten Vertreter des Genres locker in die Tasche stecken!

Es hätte keinen besseren John McClane geben können als Bruce Willis und auch Alan Rickman (Harry Potter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Tatsächlich... Liebe), den ich sowieso total genial finde, gibt hier den idealen Gegenspieler. William Atherton ist als Richard "Dick" Thornburg die Schmeißfliege des Film, die sich als aufdringlicher und sensationsgeiler Reporter unbeliebt macht und am Ende den verdienten Schlag dafür kassiert.

John McClane ist nicht nur der Innbegriff der One-Man-Show, sondern auch einer der Helden an der Spitze des 80er Jahre Actionkinos. Wer Die Hard nicht gesehen hat, dem ist wirklich nicht zu helfen. Wer Fan Von Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Russell und Co. ist, der sollte schnellstens in die Videothek sprinten und sich gleich die ganze Stirb Langsam Quadrilogie reinpfeiffen.

Als der Film am 15 Juli 1988 in den Kinos der USA anlief war ich gerade 2 1/2 Wochen alt, der Film ist also keinesfalls nur generationsbeschränkt zu genießen - im Gegenteil!

Die im Original deutschen Terroristen erhielten in der deutschen Synchronisation andere Namen und werden so zu europäischen Terroristen, weshalb ich jedem, der ihn versteht, den O-Ton seht ans Herz legen möchte. :)

Yippie-ki-yay, motherfucker!

Man kann ja fast nicht mehr dazu sagen, denn diese Filmreihe ist einfach Kult und gehört angeschaut. Daher: Auf, auf und schaut euch den Film an, der - nicht nur aus Prinzip - seine
10/10 Punkte deutlich verdient hat!!

Als der Film diese Ostern im Fernsehen lief (ich glaube es war Kabel eins) kam davor bzw als Vorschau eine saugeile Sequenz mit einem schmizenden Osterhasen... Falls irgendjemand von euch das ganze aufgenommen oder bei youtube oder sonstwo gefunden hat, bitte bescheidsagen! :)

Hostage - Entführt

Últimamente he escuchado muy poca música, mi mente ha estado centrada en otras cosas, pero como buen melómano, escuchar poca música es como escuchar siete discos nuevos a la semana, aquí les dejo cuatro de los mas interesantes que han pasado por mis oídos en estos días.

Opeth- Watershed

Hay discos que desde que escuchas el primer track ya tienes la seguridad de que hay una joya impresa en esas canciones, álbumes que de seguro pasaran a la historia, como el mejor trabajo de tal o cual banda, obras maestras para decirlo con una frase trillada.

Ese es el caso del nuevo disco de Opeth, Watershed, cuando escuchas la acústica Coil te dices, que dulce este tema, la voz femenina allí queda muy bien, hermoso, algo bueno se trae esta gente.

Compruebas que tus sospechas eran ciertas cuando escuchas de seguido Heir Apparent, 9 minutos de un viaje musical que va de lo casi sinfónico, al mas brutal death metal que hayas podido escuchar, el riff a lo Sabbath que tiene esta canción al principio, unido a la base de guitarra acústica que se ve coronada con un piano casi fantasmal, hacen de este track algo increíble, lo que se acrecenta cuando entra toda aquella distorsión con voz gutural, algo que parece no hecho por los mismos músicos, sublime.

The lotus Ester, si querías una canción que de verdad mostrara sentido “progresivo” en este álbum creo que esta es la mas indicada, blastbeats sobre voces limpias, sonidos de rock moderno fusionados con metal extremo que hacen de esta canción un ensamble sónico casi imposible fuera del mundo Opeth, grandioso.

Burden, comienzo acústico, una onda muy suave que va creciendo, desarrollando, hasta estallar para convertirse en un tema con sabor a rock de los setentas, donde no falta un buen solo de órgano hammond característico del sonido de la época, por este tipo de canciones es que la gente ama a Opeth, son unos tipos capaces de hacer de todo en sus discos y este no es la excepción.

Son solo siete los temas de este gran disco, Porcelain Heart de la cual ya hemos visto el video, la épica Hessian Pell que va de lo acústico y melódico, a lo duro y agresivo, cerrando de forma magistral con Hex omega, sonido Opeth por donde se le mire, desde mi punto de vista, el mejor disco de la banda hasta la fecha.

Esta nueva placa será lanzada al mercado el día  3 de junio vía Roadrunner Records, la producción estuvo a cargo del cantante y guitarrista de la banda Mikael Åkerfeldt a dos manos junto a Jens Bogren hombre con quien la banda ya trabajó en anteriores trabajos.

Def Leppard- Songs for the sparkling lounge

Onceavo disco de las leyendas inglesas Def Leppard, este álbum casualmente sale al mercado el día en que se escribe este post (Abril 29), debo decirles que este nuevo trabajo de los desgastados y poperos leopardos me ha dejado muy buen sabor de boca, atrás quedaron los sintetizadores y las cajas de ritmo de Slang (Uno de los mas infames álbumes de la banda), abriendo paso a guitarras rockeras, con mucho ritmo, sabor a buen hard rock, estribillos pegajosos y esos buenos coros que tanto amo de los primeros discos de la banda.

Sparkling es un disco compacto de temas que parecen cada uno la evolución del otro, producidos por los mismísimos Def Leppard y Ronan McHugh, definitivamente estamos frente a un CD que representa un paso adelante para la banda ya que vuelven de forma satisfactoria a hacer lo que mejor saben hacer, rockear, si te va el hard rock con sabor a los ochenta no dudes en comprar este trabajo, muy recomendable.

Deicide – Till death do us part

Por medio de Earache Records el día de ayer (28 de abril) fue lanzado en Europa este el noveno disco de las leyendas de la Florida Deicide, el día 13 de mayo vera la luz en los States.

Brutal es la palabra que puedo usar para describir este disco, pero desgraciadamente debo usar otra no muy positiva al hablar de el, aburrido. Los muchachos de Glen Benton nos traen un disco que si bien impresiona con su primer tema, una instrumental grandiosa llamada The Begining of the end, se queda en el aparato mientras va pasando cada tema, canciones repetitivas, solos poco originales, blastbeats que dejan atrás la musica y convierten todo en un caos sónico que no aporta nada a la banda que hace un año y medio sacó a la calle un disco tan bueno como lo es Stench of redemption.

La formación de Deicide para este álbum es Steve Asheim en los tambores, Glen Benton en el bajo y voces, Jack Owen en la guitarra y Ralph Santolla en la guitarra invitada, aclaro que este no es un mal disco, como les dije al principio es un disco brutal y muy agresivo, pero las cosas que hicieron extraordinario al anterior disco ya no están en este, para mega fanáticos de la banda y la música extrema, yo por mi parte paso y esperare el próximo disco.

Whitesnake – Good to be bad

Desde aquel poco conocido Restless Heart de 1997 no se veía un disco de Whitesnake con material nuevo, la banda había sobrevivido gracias a recopilaciones, discos en vivo y obviamente a las giras que no han parado desde hace bastante tiempo, hoy nos llegan con este muy buen logrado disco que aunque no inventan nada en el, logran recuperar el sonido de una de las bandas mas importantes del hard rock de finales de los ochentas.

La formación actual de la banda es: David Coverdale voz, Doug Aldrich (ex-Bad Moon Rising y Dio) y Reb Beach (ex-Winger y Dokken) en guitarras, Tommy Aldridge en batería, Marco Mendoza en bajo y Timothy Drury en teclados.

Good to be bad, nos recrea el sonido metalico / hard rockero de una banda que siempre ha contado con guitarristas de primer orden y esta no es la excepción, Reb Beach se encarga de hacer las maromas con las seis cuerdas mientras un muy en forma David Coverdale hace de las suyas con la voz, al igual que el nuevo disco de Def Leppard este álbum es muy homogéneo, con temas sabrosos para escuchar, pero también listos para hacerte mover la cabeza, si no me lo crees escucha el tema All for love, rock and roll de alta factura, recomendado.

Recensione bilingua del libro PERIL IN PERUGIA di Zachary Nowak

La prima sensazione che si ha sfogliando Peril in Perugia, esordio letterario dell'autore americano Zachary Nowak, è che estrapolarsi dal continuum degli eventi e dal flusso della narrazione diventa estremamente difficile se solo si è perugini o se si è stati studenti-erasmus-viaggiattori che hanno vissuto in questa città.
Questo piccolo giallo noir, dai toni altamente ironici, ti catapulta infatti già dalle prime righe nei contesti tipici e più caratteristici di Perugia: la piazza e le persone... e lo fa piuttosto bene.
La piazza, intesa come punti di ritrovo, con i suoi vicoli, i suoi appartamenti disordinati, i suoi pub stracolmi, con la musica improvvisata e sempre uguale è la spiaggia della città.
I personaggi che gli gravitano intorno, con i suoi studenti stranieri e non, con i suoi perugini mischiati a riconoscibili turisti che bevono vino rosso con pizza, sono invece il suo mare, che a ondate e ondate sempre diverse, determinano il dinamismo e l'humus di questo piccolo borgo medievale.
Si ha la sensazione in alcuni momenti di leggere qualcosa che sia nato dalla strana unione letteraria di un esordiente Daniel Pennac con l'economia espressiva di Calvino. Aggiungete il classico giovane autore e otterrete Peril in Perugia. Insomma, un cous-cous italoamericano condito con salsa piccante francese.
Le vicende si svolgono tutte fra le minuscole vie di Perugia e fra i più importanti punti di aggregazione della città (magistrale la descrizione delle Scalette del Duomo).
Ha per protagonista l'autore stesso, Zachary, che in prima persona è coinvolto nell'investigazione per conto del sindaco Fiocchi, caricatura perfetta del vero sindaco della città, della sparizione del giovane e talentuoso musicista inglese Nigel Sweadline, in cambio di una promessa cittadinanza onoraria.
Dai caratteri donnaioli e marpioni, Nigel è un vecchio studente-musicista vissuto a Perugia, circondato di popolarità e stravaganza, la cui sparizione spaventa non poco il sindaco stesso per la cattiva nomea che ne può derivare per il nome della città... e del suo mandato.
Ed è da qui che parte la storia... con l'incarico di Fiocchi allo straniero perugino Zach.
Come buona narrazione comanda, l'autore/eroe Zach si fa sostenere nella ricerca da un aiutante a dir poco speciale: Compagno Paolo.
Vero cittadino di Perugia (forse tra i più caratteristici della città), Paolo è nel racconto chiamato a fare da solida spalla a un indeciso ma attento investigatore protagonista, che sempre a rincorrersi su ipotetici sospetti e smania di trovare moventi a delitti non ancora scoperti, viene riportato alla ragione nella ricerca dalle giuste iniziative del geniale declamatore Paolo.
Il susseguirsi di incontri con molti personaggi, che poi sono riproduzioni piuttosto fedeli di persone vere della città, da' continuità all'opera. Pisco, Lindsey, Mans, Paolo, Mauro ed Esteban sono solo alcuni di quelli che Nowak ha ritenuto necessari al fine narrativo. E se tutti hanno moventi palesi per un omicidio che poggia le basi al racconto ma che in mancanza di una vittima non è ancora delineato, sarà poi in realtà solo compagno Paolo ad avere lo scatto di genio per risolvere lo strano e delicato caso.
Zachary Nowak ha dimostrato in questo suo primo libro di come conosca a fondo e di come si a attento alla città di Perugia.
Ne ha colto in pochissimi anni usi e abitudini e ne ha riversate poi minuziosamente fra le pagine di quest'opera geniale.
La sparizione di Nigel non è che un fine per passeggiare fra i vicoli e le discese, un filo conduttore per accompagnarci in poche ore a spasso per la città.
I personaggi sono così ben studiati e così verosimili per chi li conosce, che a volte si fa fatica a considerarli dentro una storia di finzione. Accoppiare poi narrativamente il protagonista con una spalla così, è sintomo di estrema curiosità creativa: Paolo è italiano e oratore di comizi comunisti (anche nella realtà), vederlo spalla a spalla a Zachary che è un'americano e fedele alle sue tradizioni, fa un po' sperare e mette allegria. Quasi volesse dare calci all'anti-americanismo che ora in Italia va molto di moda.
Molto belle le digressioni descrittive, divertenti gran parte delle scene che ci presenta, direi che Zachary Nowak è riuscito ad impacchettare un bel racconto noir, ideale per pomeriggi invernali e tristi.
Un'unica nota stonata: per gli amanti del genere non sarà per niente difficile decifrare abbastanza presto come andrà a finire.
Inoltre, ma per colpa non sua, è stato veramente inutile e velenoso vedere accostato il libro al delitto di Perugia che proprio non ha niente a che fare con questo divertente giallo.

Rewiew of PERIL IN PERUGIA
The first sensation you have flipping through Peril In Perugia, the literary debut of the American author Zachary Nowak, is that getting out of the continuum of the events and out of the flow of the narrative gets extremely difficult if you are Perugian or if you’re a student/Eramus/traveler who has lived in this city.
This little mystery noir, one with a highly ironic tone, right from the first lines catapults you into the most typical of Perugian contexts: the piazza and the people…and it does it quite well.
The piazza, meant as a meeting point, and then the city’s alleys, its disorganized apartments, its pubs brimming with improvised music, are quite the same: the beach of the city.
The characters that gravitate around it, with its foreign students (and not foreign), with its Perugians mixed in with tourists recognizable because they drink red wine with pizza, are its sea, which in wave after wave (all different) determine the dynamism and the humus of this little medieval city-on-a-hill.
One has the sensation in certain moments of reading something born of the strange literary union of a Daniel Pennac debut and the expressive economy of Italo Calvino. Add the classic young author feel and you’ll get Peril In Perugia. So to sum up: an Italo-American cous-cous, garnished with a hot French sauce.
The case plays out in the tight little alleyways of Perugia and in the most important gathering points of the city (including a masterful description of the Steps of the cathedral).
The protagonist is the author himself, Zachary, who playing himself is involved in the investigation by Mayor Fiocchi, a perfect caricature of the real mayor of the city. The mystery is that of the disappearance of the talented young English musician, Nigel Sweadline, and Nowak is promised honorary citizenship in return for his help.
A ladiesman and a mack, Nigel is a former student-musician who had lived in Perugia, a rockstar surrounded by popularity and extravagance, whose disappearance scares the mayor deeply because of the bad reputation which could be earned by the city…and his administration.
And from here the story begins…with Fiocchi hiring the Perugian foreigner, Zach.
As good narration commands, the author/hero Zach is aided in his investigation by a helper who, to understate tremendously, is special: Comrade Paolo.
A real citizen of the city (maybe one of the most characteristic), Paolo is called in the story to be the sidekick to an indecisive but attentive investigator-protagonist, who is always tracking down hypothetical suspects and restless to search motives and murders that have not yet even been found. Our investigator is brought back the right track by the reasoning of the brilliant declamer Paolo.
The succession of encounters with characters which are rather faithful reproductions of real people in the city gives continuity to the work. Pisco, Lindsey, Mans, Paolo, Mauro and Esteban are some of those which Nowak needs for his narrative ends. And if all of them have clear motives for a homicide that provides the basis of the narrative, but with the lack of a victim not yet actually discovered, it will be left to Comrade Paolo in the end to have the brilliant epiphany to resolve this strange and delicate case.
Zachary Nowak has demonstrated in this book, his first, how well he knows Perugia, and how attentive to its details he is.
In just a few years he has picked up on customs and habits and then poured them back in the pages of this brilliant work.
The disappearance of Nigel isn’t anything but a means to stroll through the alleys and the steep descents, a narrative thread that leads us for a few hours on a walk through the city.
The characters in the book are so well-studied and so lifelike that for one who knows them, you have to work hard to consider them in a fictional story. Putting together narratively a protagonist and a sidekick like this is a symptom of extreme creative curiosity: Paolo is an Italian and a communist orator (in real life as well), and seeing him side to side with Zach, who’s an American and faithful to his upbringing, makes one hope and makes one chuckle. It seems to give a good kick to the anti- Americanism that is so rampant in Italy these days.
The descriptive digression are great, and most of the scenes are entertaining... I would say that Zachary Nowak has succeeded in putting together a beautiful noir, perfect for bleak wintry afternoons.
Only one off-note: for the lovers of the genre it won’t be too hard to figure out early on how the story will end up.
In addition, though not his fault, it’s been truly useless and nasty to see the book put up next to the murder here in Perugia, which has nothing to do with this entertaining mystery.
