Sabato sera abbiamo festeggiato il compleanno di un nostro amico al Bar Bianco di Parco Sempione. Fin qui nulla di strano, era la prima volta che andavo in questo posto, addirittura non conoscevo neanche la sua esatta ubicazione e da "immigrato regolare" :-) non sapevo neanche che il parco si trovava alle spalle del castello sforzesco... mi rispediranno giù in sicilia dopo quello che ho scritto! La location era d'obbligo pechè un nostro amico vi lavora quest'estate come PR, quindi com molta probabilità ci torneremo ancora. Qui entra in gioco la prima parte del titolo, abbordaggi imprevisti... Ditemi voi, è possibile che per l'ennesima volta sia stato abbordato da un ragazzo, e questa volta direttamente con contatto fisico diretto? Stavamo prendendo un drink al bar quando per due volte consecutive un ragazzo, alto moro, dall'aspetto carino, mi passa toccandomi il gomito del braccio in quel momento leggermente proteso in fuori. E alla seconda volta chiedendomi scusa mi accarezza tutto il braccio passando la sua mano dalla spalla fino alla mia mano sorridendomi... e poi: scusami, sono sbadatissimo, non sò proprio dove metto i piedi...No amico mio, forse ti sei confuso con le mani gli avrei voluto rispondere! Comunque dopo essere tornato a sedermi accanto alla Dona, mi ha visto un altra volta e poi forse, capito che non potevo essere il suo tipo, mi ha sorriso ancora e non l'ho più rivisto... Ok, stop. Non posso scrivere sono etero sulla fronte, però è una cosa assurda, la mia Dona, a parte le risate e le prese in giro, comincia a preoccuparsi... :-D Oddio, e che ci posso fare? Da "Masculo Focoso Siciliano" è un affronto essere abbordati da altri uomini ed ignorato dalle dolci fanciulle... AHHHH!!! Il mondo ormai gira al contrario! :-D Pink, tu che sei ormai in viaggio per l'america, avrei voluto sapere da te se queste fanno parte delle tue tecniche di abbordaggio, come farò adesso ad evitarle? Ahahah!

Comunque, cambiando argomento, domenica mi ero ripromesso di preparare qualcosa di buono da mangiare anche perchè per una settimana avevo una pulce che mi saltellava nell'orecchio... Si esatto il cous cous! Normalmente lo preparo col pesce, ma vuoi gli impegni, vuoi il poco tempo, ho optato per quello di verdure, però con delle varianti. Aprendo il frigo della Dona avevo trovato delle carote, un pezzo di zucca, delle zucchine, un peperone e nella dispensa dei ceci precotti, quindi l'idea è stata di prepararlo nel  modo classico, aggiungendo anche della menta fresca! Dalle foto potete vedere tutto, le verdure tagliate a dadini abbastanza grossi, saltati con olio e conditi solo con un pizzico di sale. Il cous cous precotto preparato seguendo le istruzioni e poi un tocco in più come l'olio crudo per dare un pò più di sapore. Ma oltre al cous cous volevo preparare un antipastino veloce a gustoso e anche lì avevo un nodo legato al fazzoletto: Mojito di Pesce Spada! Ricetta scovata nel blog della mia amica Silvia. Unica variante, ho dovuto usare lo spada affumicato perchè quello fresco o presunto tale del centro commerciale aveva un aspetto prossimo alla resurrezione... Ho disposto le fette su un piatto, decorato con fettine di lime e foglioline di menta, una leggera grattata di pepe rosa e condito con un emulsione di succo di lime ed olio, e lasciato riposare per due ore in frigo. Ultimo piatto preparato, dei gamberi saltati in padella aromatizzati al lime. Pensavamo di lasciare un pò di cous cous alla mamma della Dona per la sera, ma al ritorno dei suoi genitori ormai era finito tutto... :-D

Ma la più bella sorpresa doveva arrivare ritornando a casa mia domenica sera... Io non guardo mai la tv, escludendo qualche serie televisiva interessante e lo sport in genere, ormai ignoro qualunque palinsesto televisivo. Accendo la tv e cosa vedo su rai 1? uno speciale sulla gastronomia da strada in italia!!! La ricetta perfetta. In giro alla riscoperta delle tradizioni di strada dell'italia, dalle rane fritte dell'osteria ferrari di pavia al pane con la milza dell'antica focacceria san francesco di palermo! Non mi soffermerò sulle bellezze delle città italiane e della loro gastronomia spicciola e gustosa, ma concentrerò la mia attenzione sulla parte dedicata a Palermo! E' stato emozionante rivedere le immagini delle foto che avevo scattato nel mio ultimo viaggio, sentire le persone parlare, vedere le griglie cuocere la carne e il pesce, osservare i colori dei mercati, mi hanno catapultato nuovamente nella mia vecchia realtà quotidiana. Per una volta ho apprezzato il lavoro fatto dalla tv di stato, un servizio serio, con interviste a gente competente... Peccato lo abbiano trasmetto quasi all'una di notte... un vero peccato, sul serio.

Che dirvi ancora? Rifatevi gli occhi allora con quello che ho preparato io! ;-)

A TRS stereo 1/4" jack or 1/8" jack is essentially two unbalanced signals with a shared common. Typically Tip = Right channel, Ring = Left channel and of course the Sleeve in ground. Balanced on the other hand is looking for the exact same signal on pins 2 and 3 but in opposite polarity. It uses a method known as "Common Mode Rejection" to resist interference. Any noise induced on to the cable or passing from one source to the next will be rejected if it's not the same on both pins. Therefore if you wire you stereo output to a balanced input the signals on pins 2 and 3 will obviously be quite different because you now have right channel information on pin 2 and left channel information on pin 3. Well needless to say they obviously are not going to match (100% of the time anyway) and will attempt to cancel each other out. Your best course of action here is to split out the left/right to two different channels on the console or sum them to mono. It is possible with most modern equipment to combine the left and right channels on pin 2 and tie the commons together on pin 1. Notice I say possible with "most" equipment because doing this changes the electrical properties. So checking the input ratio from the source component to the consoles inputs still retains a 10:1 impedance ratio for maximum voltage transfer. This yields a strong signal level and keeps your signal to noise ratio in check.

I find that a lot of technicians think the only difference between mic and line level inputs is the input sensitivity. The misnomer is that simply reducing the input gain will allow you to use mic inputs for either mic or line. However the input sensitivity is only one difference. Equally important if not more important is the difference in the impedance. Microphones have very low output impedance typically in the 50-200ohm range. In return the input impedance on the mixer may only be 1-2 kohm. Now should you try to plug a line level source in to the mic input you now have a source with an output impedance of 1kohm or more connected to an input with impedance that's relatively the same. So when considering a mic input with a line level input you may only have a 1:1 or possibly 2:1 impedance ratio also known as an "impedance mismatch" (BTW the term impedance mismatch is used very loosely by many and it's meaning can very drastically so always get details). On the other hand the line inputs will have an input impedance of 10kohm to 100kohms meaning your 10:1 rule is safely in tact. The logic behind the impedance matching is that per ohm's law as impedance goes up so does voltage and the current drops. As you lower the impedance your current transfer increases but voltage transfer will dramatically decrease. If you’re not completely confident in your knowledge of voltage and current and how they relate to one another I offer you an analogy. You will see this same analogy in many books and used in classes as well. Imagine a garden hose with no nozzle on it. You turn on the faucet opening it all the way and the result is a lot of water moving through the hose gently flowing from the end with very little pressure. Therefore the amount of water you are moving through the hose is equivalent to "current". Now let's put a nozzle on the hose and try again. Now the water is combating the resistance being cause by the restrictive path of the nozzle causing it to exit the hose under extreme pressure, the equivalent of "voltage", but you are now moving less current. So now you can see how all three are directly related. Little resistant (no nozzle) increases the current (flow) and lowers the voltage (pressure). Increase the resistance and you decrease your current (flow) and increase you voltage (pressure). For my disclaimer I must state that this does not mean you should start wiring your systems with garden hose!

La festa, ci ha detto Bebo, ha un carattere aggregativo e sociale ancor prima che politico. Ce l'ha confermato, e in questo la nostra festa assomiglia molto a quelle della rl.

Il cibo alla festa dell'Unità è molto importante, anche perchè le feste sono un fondamentale strumento di autofinanziamento del Partito, nella rl appunto (nella nostra no!), e dove si mangia bene la gente va volentieri. Su questo aspetto, la nostra festa putroppo è deficitaria, ma vedremo di inventarci qualcosa...

La festa è quindi strumento di autofinanziamento, è duro lavoro per i volontari, ma anche Bebo pensa, insieme a noi, che debba essere anche divertimento, innanzitutto per chi la costruisce, ci lavora, la smonta. Passione e divertimento.

Joannes sollecita un ricordo vissuto delle feste, Bebo racconta di un volontario che, a conclusione della festa fatta dietro la chiesa, prende una forma dal magazzino e la porta al prete "per il disturbo arrecato". La chat. Gli incontri sono in voice - Bebo che conversa con Joannes e Rosa, alternando le voci - ma chi ascolta è fortemente presente attraverso la chat, che compare e scorre durante la conversazione. Ecco una differenza con i dibattiti in rl: la gente, tra il pubblico, non solo ascolta, ma si parla, ma in Sl non lo fa (solo) di nascosto (con le IM), ma anche sfrontatamente in pubblico, e al dibattito in voice si affianca e si intreccia la chat pubblica, che interferisce e cambia il tono della conversazione, introduce ironia e sarcasmo, integra e interroga....

Così accade che, mentre Bebo racconta l'importanza della socialità alle feste, che travalica l'appartenenza di partito, portando l'esempio della festa dell'Unità di un paese nel ravennate, dove gli stessi volontari dela Festa dell'Unità lavorano alla Sagra della rana che segue immediatamente dopo, un problema con il microfono unito al gracidare delle rane sopra la nostra testa (risaia in sl) scatena l'immaginazione dei presenti, e rimbalza nella conversazione .....

La conversazione continua, e scopriamo che molti piatti della nostra tradizione sono stati inventati dei volontari della Festa dell'Unità. Un esempio: i cappelletti al ragù, tradizionalmente in brodo, che mal si adattavano alle torride estati romagnole (quelle di una volta...)

Now Thackrey is pissed off. In his editorial, he has demanded that Rane be arrested. Listen to him-

So, even Thackrey believes that people should swallow insults with good humor. A case of preaching what one does not practice, if the innumerable occasions on which his party men have intimidated journalists, professors and god knows who else, and vandalized their properties are taken into account.

Numerosi rapporti testimoniano che, nonostante le promesse fatte al segretario dell’ONU Ban Ki-Moon, Than Shwe non ha affatto abolito le restrizioni imposte agli operatori internazionali in Birmania. Un gran numero di agenzie non ha ancora ricevuto i visti d’ingresso dalle ambasciate e il regime ha impedito l’accesso alle navi e agli elicotteri militari stranieri necessari per la consegna degli aiuti. La retorica del regime sottolinea l'inutilità dei soccorsi. La "Nuova luce di Myanmar", l'organo ufficiale della giunta, esorta i sopravvissuti a fare a meno delle 'barrette di cioccolato' offerte dagli stranieri e a mangiare le rane delle acque dell’Irrawaddy, dove ancora galleggiano i cadaveri in decomposizione. Dopodiché avverte la popolazione di stare attenta che gli operatori internazionali non approfittino della situazione per "ficcare il naso nelle case".

Intanto molti sopravvissuti stanno ricevendo cibo avariato al posto di quello di buona qualità consegnato dai governi esteri. Un residente straniero a Rangoon ha testimoniato che le barrette ad alto contenuto proteico del World Food Program sono state spedite ad un magazzino militare e sono state scambiate con barrette insipide e di bassa qualità prodotte dal Ministero delle Industrie per le vittime del ciclone.

Non si sa se il cibo di alta qualità sia stato venduto al mercato nero o consumato dai militari.

I went and saw Made of Honour today - not bad for a McDreamy movie.

Also went to BestBuy today to cash in my rewards gift certificate.  :-) Any day that I can use free money to buy stuff for my MacBook is a good day in my books.  I got a cute new mouse pad, and a neat skin to cover my keyboard. 

Picked up my new books for class, and couldn't help but open the box right there in the Purolator parking lot.  How's that for dorky... ;-)

One of the blogs I read mentioned Google Reader yesterday, and super happy that they did!  It's this neat thing by Google that tracks all your blogs, and keeps them all on one site.  Then, when there's a new posting, on any of the sites, you can see it on that one page.  No more going through my 15 different blog sites to see if anyone's done anything since the last time I checked.  Yes, I know that's supposedly what RSS feeds are for, but since I haven't figured out how to use that, this seems like a suitable solution.  Yes, everyone, I do need a geek in my life.

I still pretty ticked at BossLady... we had planned a SURPRISE baby shower for MommyBlogger, and BossLady let the cat out of the bag.  We had planned to do it as part of our weekly team meetings, and have it scheduled for later this month.  What she did was send out a cancellation email for that meeting - and changed the heading from "Weekly Team Meeting" to "Surprise Baby Shower".  She was nice enough to include MommyBlogger in the email, which was awesome.   MommyBlogger hasn't said anything about it, but she definitely knows.

That being said, I'm unsure if I should say something about it and make it a non-surprise shower... or if I should just keep pretending.

I've been meaning to do another post on FirstCrush, since that's all I can think about... but that's definitely an adult type post, so I'll do that in a separate password protected version.

I'm also super excited to say that Rane and LostSoul have just bought a house!  I'm SO excited for them!  I can't believe that it's been so long that they've been together.  :-D

And last but not least, I've been working on making a Meal Plan.  Yay for trying to actually plan meals ahead that I make myself.  For all you Doubting Thomases, I'll admit they're easy things and not necessarily the best foods ever, but it's a step in the right direction!

Two million dollars a week for the next ten weeks. That is what the two sides in the gay marriage fight will be spending to either stop, or keep gay marriage in California.

Imagine how much good we could do with $20 million. My church, All Saints Beverly Hills, hosts 100 homeless people every Monday, sends children to visit their incarcerated parents on Mother’s day, rotates eight people through New Orleans, and operates ravenous family, mercy and justice ministries. Their entire 2008 budget would be gone in a week. Every penny raised by the Los Angeles AIDS Walk would be spent in two weeks. The entire annual budget of AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) would only last nine weeks.

I sometimes wonder if the gays would get more media by just taking the money sending it all to New Orleans. But then I think of the 50,000 domestic partners in California and how much less stress and worry they will have with the irreplaceable time-tested stability of marriage. And all California’s children, who will discover that their government supports their freedom to grow up and be who they are, and if they are lucky enough to find love, they can pursue it instead of celibacy, suicide or a vampire-like Larry Craig lifestyle.

Clearly, every penny we spend defending the freedom to marry is well spent.

I tried being Suzy-fix-it this morning, and failed miserably... now my slightly slow bathtub drain is my stopped up bathtub drain.  :-(  I dislike having to use chemicals this strong to fix something as silly as this, but I'm now on to my second bottle of LiquidPlumbr.

Heard from that speeddating girl again, who's gotten back from Cuba and is now crazy sick.  We're planning on getting together to discuss a guy that she met at speeddating, who's seriously messed with her head already.

C’era una volta, in un paese lontano lontano, uno stagno vicino ad una spiaggia bianca, vicino ad un mare azzurro, dove viveva una Rrana.

Questa Rrana era molto insicura e passava intere giornate su una foglia di ninfea specchiandosi nella stagno e ripetendosi all’infinito “Sono una Rrana! Sono una Rrana! Sono una Rrana!!!”.

Fortunatamente almeno durante la notte, quando dormiva tranquilla sotto un fiore di loto, sognava di essere una Rrana molto sicura di sé, e non aveva bisogno di continuare a ripetersi frasi rassicuranti ma le bastava guardarsi le sue bellissime scarpe rosse per sentirsi subito meglio. Ma quando sorgeva il sole e con lui un nuovo giorno ritornava ad essere la povera piccola Rrana…purtroppo o per fortuna, nello stagno dove viveva non esistevano né calzolai né negozi di scarpe, inoltre essendo una Rrana non sapeva se avrebbe mai trovato delle scarpe adatte ai suoi piedi e quindi era convinta che non sarebbe mai diventata un Rrana sicura di sé.

Ma una mattina, quando si svegliò, successe una cosa strana…

Quando si specchiò nello stagno, non vide la sua faccina di Rrana bensì due grandi occhini azzurri che la osservavano impauriti ed incuriositi da sotto il pelo dell’acqua…un po’ si spaventò ma un po’ era anche incuriosita…e così si fece coraggio e disse “Chi sei?” e da sotto l’acqua si sentì solo il rumore delle bollicine, e allora Rrana disse ancora più forte “Chi sei?” e piano piano fece capolino un piccolo Coccodrillo che disse “Sono un Coccodrillo e sto scappando, ti prego fammi restare qui nascosto nello stagno e in cambio farò quello che vuoi”.

La Rrana, anche se un po’ impaurita dal Coccodrillo che si diceva mangiasse anche Rrane, acconsentì ad ospitare il Coccodrillo nello stagno ma in cambio volle sapere perché scappava e da chi e poi voleva un paio di scarpe possibilmente rosse.

E così il coccodrillo le raccontò la sua storia “Arrivo da un paese molto lontano dove ci sono uomini cattivi che danno la caccia a noi Coccodrilli per farne borse, cinture e scarpe, fortunatamente io sono riuscito a scappare e sono giorni e giorni che nuoto nel mare azzurro, finchè sono arrivato alla spiaggia bianca ed infine qui da te nel tuo stagno. Ti ringrazio perché mi fai restare qui con te ma…tu chi sei?” e lei disse “Sono una Rrana!”…per la prima volta non lo diceva a se stessa ma ad un altro essere vivente e questo le parve bello.

Il Coccodrillo poi aggiunse “Cara Rrana, piacere di conoscerti, quando ci saranno momenti migliori per noi Coccodrilli tornerò nel mio paese e ti porterò un bel paio di scarpe rosse, ma non so quando verrà questo momento, in ogni caso penso che i tuoi piedi siano molto belli anche senza scarpe!”. La Rrana arrossì perché nessuno le aveva mai detto una cosa così carina.

E così passarono giorni, settimane, mesi e anni e Coccodrillo e Rrana vissero sempre insieme nello stagno vicino alla spiaggia bianca e al mare azzurro, Rrana si dimenticò delle scarpe rosse che tanto desiderava e rimasero per sempre frutto dei suoi sogni e Coccodrillo non ritornò mai più nel suo lontano paese. di e con Isabella Costerman

A: This often a misunderstood topic. Before starting let’s lay a little groundwork to build from. Graphic equalizers have a fixed number of filters set at pre-determined center frequencies. Now earlier graphic EQ’s and some current lower quality units were and are variable “Q”. This is where the problems originate. A filter’s “Q” otherwise known as bandwidth, although not actually the same thing, is a means of determining how wide the filter is. In other words if you have a filter with a center frequency set at 4kHz how many other frequencies on either side of that will have their amplitude effected. In 1/3 octave EQ’s each filter could be easily over an octave wide at its lowest settings. They were only true 1/3 octave filters at its deepest boost or cut settings. In the early eighties Rane developed a new type of graphic EQ that was a true 1/3 octave filter regardless of the position of the boost/cut slider. The Rane units still remain some of the most highly regarded graphic EQ’s on the market. Others have adopted their technology or variations thereof but most come at a much higher price.

So you may ask why not just use all parametric EQ’s where all these parameters can be controlled independently and accurately. In some cases users need quick access to multiple filters without having the time or ability to make finite adjustments to the center frequencies. One of the most common applications is in use with stage monitors. Quick and easy with little fuss. I live situations where setup time is limited and the acoustics are never the same twice the graphic is an invaluable tool and will continue to remain so for years to come.

Io non ho parole... finalmente l'ONU pensa all'impellente bisogno di tutti noi poveri esseri umani di sesso maschile e garantisce "Un po' di tutto, a quanto pare. Nonostante non sia proprio semplicissimo ottenere la proclamazione di «anno internazionale». Il tema deve essere di interesse generale per tutti o per la maggior parte dei Paesi, e avere come obiettivi «risultati praticabili e identificabili»".

C'è altro da aggiungere? no, c'è solo da essere contenti, e sganciare sorrisi smaglianti a tutte le donne che incrociamo per strada, sperando che sia una brava ragazza, che alle iniziative umanitarie ci tiene.

Inizio 2008 positivo per le rane, è anche il loro anno, e come tutti gli anni, rompono i coglioni ruttando nella fontana sotto casa, ma non le potrò uccidere, bella vita anche per Luca Giurato che potrà gracchiare senza limiti. Vita dura invece per quelli che le leccano.

Nel mentre il petrolio ha superato i 100$ al barile. Che fantastico anno ci aspetta!

Preparazione

anche se a milano si usava eseguire il fritto con olio di linosa in campagna o con burro in città, Mila Contini avverte che delle rane si friggono solo le cosce, che si comprano anche già pronte. basta infarinarle e friggerle in abbondante olio. si spruzzano di sale dopo la cottura, quando sgocciolano su una carta assorbente. si servono caldissime e si mangiano con le mani. acquistare le rane già spellate, pulirle e lavarle in acqua fredda corrente. asciugarle e infarinarle. portare l'olio ad alta temperatura e quindi friggere tutte le rane insieme, sinché saranno croccanti. lasciarle a scolare su carta paglia o assorbente da cucina. salarle a piacimento e servirle calde in tavola, accompagnate da fettine di polenta appena cucinata. un'interessante variante è rappresentata dalle “rane in camicia” (rann in camisa).
