1. Coca-Cola in a glass bottle. What is it about the glass bottle that pushes my enjoyment of the beverage towards obsession? I'm an avid Diet Coke consumer and normally eschew full-sugar soda pop because of the unnecessary calories, but if I find Coke in a glass bottle (usually at a bodega or Mexican restaurant) I'm on it like Andrew Zimmern on a plate of criadillas.

2. No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain.  Usually sandwiched between episodes of Andrew Zimmern's "Watch Me Eat Something Revolting" on the Travel Channel, there's a simple reason why I enjoy No Reservations. He's a smoker (at least he was once), a drinker, a voracious carnivore, a snob, and a bit of a dick. He reminds me somewhat of myself, except he's got the best job in the world. I'm convinced that if I do well in this life I get to come back as him, except better looking.

3. The Bill Evans Trio. Bill Evans taught me to love... jazz! I was introduced to the Bill Evans Trio because of his amazing upright-bass player Scott Lafaro, and fell in love with Mr. Evan's piano. It's technically astounding and, more importantly, it's incredibly listenable jazz music, unlike that free-form shit or that easy-listening rubbish. It's jazz for people who don't really like much jazz, like myself. Superb soiree music. Also good music to listen to when you're losing your mind on a psychedelic-drug induced downward spiral of insanity. Just sayin'. Here's a good one.

(Additionally, if you liked "Autumn Leaves", you might enjoy watching the video of Bill Evans playing the song "Waltz For Debby", accompanied by one Monica Zetterlund, a Swedish singer who's SMOKING AN EFFING CIGARETTE WHILE SHE'S SINGING. Lit up by Bill Evans himself, no less. Amazing what they let you get away with back in the day... a smoker and drinker's paradise, it was.)

4, The fact that my wife, after she graduated from high school and while she was still trying to figure out what she wanted to do with her life, actually attended a few semesters of massage therapy school. Oh yes. You can go ahead and be jealous now.

5. The fact that I cut my own hair a week ago (always a rather of a dicey venture) and three people complimented me on it, asked me where I got it cut, and then refused to believe that I had done it myself. I mean, full on scissors and a comb style cut it. Didn't use clippers 'cept on the back of the neck and round the ears. Damned if it doesn't look just excellent. I must have a hairstylist in my lineage somewhere.

Well, that's enough of this stuff then. Jesus, next I'll be posting about my children... not that I, in fact, have any. Well, actually, given the promiscuous nature of my later teenage years, odds are that I've got a few floating around out there... kidding, of course.

Some time this week I am going shopping for a new chair. I got my prescription from my doctor. The chair I am in is definitely not fit to last another winter. I used and abused it this summer. I think all of that running around, along with the pressure of my job, have given me high blood pressure. Not really high, but higher than normal. I found that out when I had my appointments. Weird. I just wanted to get a prescription for a new chair and I found that out.

By the way, the doctor barely looked at me and started writing out the prescription for the chair, so I don't know why I had to spend the time.

My essential go-to outfit is, and forever shall be: a fitted black polo shirt and khaki pants. Sure I've got dozens of polo shirts in a rainbow of colors, and maybe I change it up by wearing gray slacks or even indigo jeans when I'm feeling hip, but that's pretty much what I always wear. I don't have a day job other than writing, which I can do just fine in my pajamas, and my other job, musician, doesn't really require any special outfit.

I have sports jackets and dress shirts and nice sweaters for the winter and coats and boots and sandals and wingtips and patent-leather shoes and deck shoes and suede shoes and loafers (alright, so I've got a lot of shoes for a man) to add to the equation, but when it boils down to it, I wear the same thing, day after day.

Allow me to break it down like a fraction: It's classic, I decided a long time ago, and it'll never really go out of style because it's never really been IN style. It fits right in at a social club, on the tennis court, at the casino, by the pool, at the bar, or while breaking someone's kneecaps in the alley behind the IHOP. It's more formal than a t-shirt and jeans, it's slimming, and, most importantly, just feels right on me. There's something about the outfit that makes me feel ready to conquer the world, go out there and be somebody, or at least go out there and do some damage.

And combined with a pinky ring and a pair of polished shoes? Fuggedabowdit. (Soprano-style hand-movements implied.)

Tell my I'm not alone. Does anyone else out there wear the same thing over and over again? Is there any article of clothing that just makes you feel... just right?

ok this post is really really very impulsively written and while im on quite a high. I guess i've probably smoked so much that i'm in a state of delirium now. but ahh, aint this smoke heavenly? No no no it aint smoke. its Literature.

I would first like to thank Ms Kuang for giving us this Essay On Man assg to do. the timing may be slightly inopportune, but dare-i-say-it, i think this time spent doing my essay on man beats the time spending mugging hands on on pleasure and sheer fun. Really!

if i may exagegerate, this and the recent lit production has reignited my love for literature and creative writing. I just realised its so easy, and so FUN to write. ok we all agree there's a line between bullsht and writing. And i do not boast to have the turn-bullsht-into-Literature Canon touch, but its a process of discovery!

I cannot be focused. I cannot just take one thing and be fully immersed in it for long periods of time.

I can totally do something to the best of my abilities...but I usually find myself getting immensely bored when it gets seperated by other things.

Like One Tree Hill. Was very into it until I actually caught up with the actual showings. Since Singapore showed it (on the free channels) at least a season later I had plenty to do when I had...nothing to do. But once I caught up, waiting a week to find out the story just put me off. A tv show will never be worth my while, not like that.

So fast forward a few months and hey! Season 5 (the one I was avoiding) is not only over, but Season 6 has already started.

So after rewatching all the episodes in Bones (even the ones I found bleargh), I am now on the mission to watch Season 5 and catch up with Season 6...until it bores me.

Yes how random.

And True Blood....can I just die now please! I've never ever been doomed to slush so quickly by any guy. It's not sexual desire, more of a teenage boyband follower kind of crush on Bill, the sexiest vampire alive (on TV at any rate).

Like I tell Jack, it's the manners, if only all guys were that well mannered... <sighs>

So on Friday I believe, America officially went Communist. Or Marxist at the least. We all heard about the breakdown with the Lehman Brothers. At the brink of another depression... Would be terrible; not just for America but Canada as well. Since Canada just HAS to be so interwined with America. Apparently America took the Socialist ideal of trying to help out and preventing other banks and corporations from meeting the same fate the Lehman Brothers did by giving money!

The most Capatalist country in the world, with the whole belief in the "Free" Market attempts to give money to help others? And by helping these banks etc. America winds itself deeper into debt. Go New Jersey with the debt toll sign. $11.3 trillion in debt! Wow. Well, all in all a good move to prevent a future depression, or at least prolong it. But I just thought I'd pick on the fact that America took a Karl Marx Socialist move to help itself.

Those dam Commies :)

Video game maker Electronic Arts has loosened copyright protection for the newest release of its game Spore.

Released earlier in the month, the game received a flurry of complaints about a restriction that meant the game could only be registered to three computers.

That restriction has now been raised to five computers, which the company says should account for all legitimate uses. (link)

Hurrah, I was right. They're working on a system for deauthorizing as well, so that's pretty good.

Still, my confidence has been affected, and I am on a budget now, so I probably will not buy it.
