Auch der Fotograf und Leser meines Blogs Christian Rohweder bat mich per Mail, ob ich mal seine Webseite anschauen und ihm vielleicht einige Tipps geben könnte, ob seine Fotos als Stockfotos geeignet seien und was er verbessern könnte. Klar kann ich. Aber damit gleich mehrere Fotografen etwas davon haben, habe ich beschlossen, je nach Nachfrage öffentliche Bildbesprechungen anzubieten.

Und so läuft's:
- Schickt mir eine kurze Mail, in der ihr Euch vorstellt, z. B. wie lange ihr Fotos macht, mit welcher Ausrüstung, ob und wo ihr schon Fotos verkauft und was ihr in Zukunft in der Stockfotografie-Branche vorhabt.
- Wenn ich ausreichend Zeit habe für Bildbesprechungen, bitte ich Euch, mir 5-10 Bilder in kleiner Auflösung zu schicken.
- Diese werde ich dann in einem Blogbeitrag wie diesem veröffentlichen (auf Wunsch auch anonym) und meine Kommentare abgeben aus Business-Sicht. Also eher nicht, ob eine Blume schön ist oder nicht, sondern wie verkäuflich das Foto sein könnte oder wie es verkäuflicher gemacht werden könnte.
Kritisch, ehrlich, subjektiv.

Los geht's mit der ersten Folge von "Pimp Your Stock!"

Uhren sind gute Symbole in der Stockfotografie. Hier könnte der Bildaufbau jedoch durchdachter sein. Die harte Lichtquelle lässt Stellen am Glas weiß auslaufen und sorgt für einen zu harten Schatten. Ein rechtliches Problem kann das Design der Uhr sein, hier gilt es aufzupassen und im Zweifelsfall beim Hersteller nachfragen oder recherchieren (z.B. beim Deutschen Patent- und Markenamt)

Auch Pinnnadeln sind ein beliebtes Stockmotiv. Um solche Fotos zu verkaufen, sollen auch die passenden Konzept-Suchwörter wie Chaos, Unordnung, Vielfalt etc. benutzt werden. Das Foto selbst ist jedoch zu hell, hier sollten die Mitte in der Tonwertkorrektur nach rechts verschoben (dunkler) werden. Bei solchen Makroaufnahmen ist wichtig, dass die Objekte sehr sauber sind, was hier nicht ganz der Fall ist.

Hier ist der Name einer Maschinenbaufirma zu sehen, die Teil des Werfenverbundes von ThyssenKrupp Marinesystems AG ist. Die verstehen da keinen Spaß. Ein Fall für den Retuschestempel. Insgesamt ist das Bild aber zu unkomponiert und zu dunkel, rechts saufen Bereiche ins Schwarz ab. Besser wäre gewesen, mit einem stärkeren Teleobjektiv eine vertikale Aufnahme nur des linken Bereichs zu machen und den Firmennamen wegzustempeln.

Aaaah, Raps! Der Dauerbrenner unter den Landschaftsaufnahmen, gleich nach Sonnenuntergängen und Bergpanoramen. Die Konkurrenz auf diesem Gebiet ist schwer. Ich finde das Foto aber sehr gelungen. Hellblauer Himmel mit viel PLatz für Designer, ihren Text unterzubringen. Klarer detailreicher Vordergrund mit passendem ruhigen Hintergrund und Reduzierung auf zwei sehr komplementäre Farben. Ich denke, dass Verkaufschancen da sind, vor allem mit Suchbegriffen wie "Sommer" oder "Textfreiraum" bzw. "Copy Space".

Schwarz-Weiß-Fotos sind bei Stockagenturen nicht so beliebt. Und ein Propeller als Symbol soll eher "Abenteuer", "Bewegung" und "Geschwindigkeit" vermitteln als Ruhe und Stillstand. Das Foto finde ich nicht schlecht, sehe aber nicht viele Verkaufschancen.

Eine schlichte Makroaufnahme, vielleicht etwas grobkörnig bzw. rauschig, aber mit passender Verschlagwortung (Auswahl, Kommunikation, ...) sicher verkäuflich. Die "Alt"-Schrift und das Symbol daneben könnten eventuell retuschiert werden, um den Fokus besser auf die "Option" zu lenken.

Ähnlich wie die Uhr oben: Der Markenname und die Logos sind bei diesem Taschenmesser ein großes "No-Go"! Auch die Komposition ist meiner Meinung nach nicht gut durchdacht. Der Rahmen ist im Original schon entfernt worden.D

Die durch Asphalt brechende Pflanzentrieb ist in der Stockfotografie ein beliebtes Symbol für Aufbruch, Wachstum, Stärke, Herausfordung und Freiheit. Sprich: Ein universell einsetzbares Motiv, hier auch gut umgesetzt. Gefällt mir nach dem Rapsfoto am besten. Kleiner Verbesserungsvorschlag: Das Grün sättigen und beim nächsten Mal den Winkel so wählen, dass die Triebe sich auf dem Foto nicht überlagern, also mehr nach rechts oder links gehen. Die wenigen losen Steine könnten noch retuschiert werden. Trotzdem ein beliebtes Stockfoto.

Bei dem Füller mit Tintenfass ist im Original die Gravur schon retuschiert. Das Motiv ist gefragt in der Stockfotografie, aber es gibt bessere Umsetzungen. Die Schatten sind zu hart und der Untergrund nicht hell genug. Verbessern ließe sich es auch, wenn der Füller etwas schreibt: Einen Lottoschein ankreuzt, einen Stimmzettel ausfüllt, Termine in einen Kalender schreibt oder schlicht das Wort "Danke".

Nu har en domstol i Queensland i Australien slagit fast att det i själva verket handlar om en tragisk olycka. I scenariot som domstolen målade upp med stöd av bevisning från båten faller en av bröderna i vattnet när han försöker lösgöra en lina som fastnat i propellern. Den andra brodern faller i när han försöket hjälpa mannen. Kapten Batten försöker då vända båten för att hämta sina vänner men en stark vind får tag i bommen som med full kraft knuffar Batten över bord.

Ja om det inte var rymdvarelser så kanske det gått till så här, lite konstruerat tycker jag det låter men det är ju inte omöjligt. Vi får se om konspirationsteoretikerna har annan uppfattning. Kanske Australiens regering utförde hemlig marin forskning på platsen?
Hur det än är så tragiskt är det i alla fall.

Mr. Bubble passed away this last Tuesday evening, as announced from his Hamilton, NJ home by short-term corporate family associate and restructuring officer; Doug Booth. The official cause of death was a brief bout of bankruptcy, however, those who knew Mr. Bubble, attributed his demise to an agonizing and protracted struggle against avarice, after firstly suffering from a self-inflicted business roll-up some few years earlier. According to the bankruptcy obituary, Mr. Bubble is survived by three layers of debt; levereged, senior and junior, neither of which had anything left to speak of.

Had Mr. Bubble lived, he would have been 88, being born of the Lander family in 1920. Mr. Bubble's father gained his reputation selling perfumes such as “Romantic Days” and “Samedi Soir.” Lander relinquished his prodigy several times before it was adopted by the Hermes Group, a private equity firm, in 2003, according to the perfunctory regulatory inquest.

Two years later, Lander was placed in another consumer-products home, and took in Mr. Bubble from Playtex in 2007 to reside with Coty's "Healing Garden." Final arrangements for the disposition of Mr. Bubble's remains, if any, are being handled by the firm of Houlihan, Lokey, Howard & Zukin.

And so it goes, but begs the question - in business, is greed ever good? Greed, as opposed to what - honest competition, ambition and hard work? In my grief, I'm going to think about that, as I reflect on fond memories of growing up squeaky clean with Mr. Bubble. It's just kind of sad, and likewise ironic, that the first business roll-ups to be done in the 1970's were Mom and Pop funeral homes and neighborhood trash haulers. Tech bubble, stock market bubble, Don Ho and "Tiny Bubbles," housing bubble - so long, Mr. Bubble...

Came across this interesting photo of one of the propellers on the RMS Queen Mary.  For those not familiar with this vessel, it one of the grandest cruise liners to sail the seas.  No longer in service though, it sits permanently moored in Long Beach, CA and serves as a hotel/tourist attraction.

For obvious reasons, Prince is not keeping his planes at Castle (KMER). Most of them are scattered around at different locations in and possibly out of California.

Perhaps anyone who has any information about the ASA aircraft or sighting of the same may come forward to post it here so this site could be a one-stop clearing house for all the ASA airplane movement.

For those students who have legal representation (lawyer), you might ask your lawyer to file a pre-judgement lien through the court on all ASA aircraft immediately with the FAA if not done so already while the case is pending, and impound the aircraft ASAP to prevent Prince from selling them off in pieces. (Avionics, engines, propeller, interiors, wings, fuselage, empennage, etc.)

Anyhow, I'm over at Amazon.com on on a book buying bender, as I am oft to do, (not - I usually borrow or steal) and I bump into A Dick by Fiona Giles, digester of fifty penis-envy anecdotes like; "what would you do if you had one?" as told by all types of "in-the-know" women folk.

At $25, Dick was out of my reach in hard back, and I was still not stimulated at $19 for the soft covered Dick. Amazon is good though, and reminded me that I could get Dick, wrapped as a gift for no additional charge. Still, I did not bite on Dick. Goading my sense of loss, I was informed used Dick's were available starting unbelievably small at only $.03 a unit, and I guess at this price, a Dick that has only been had for a day might be a worthy summer pass time. The pre-owned condition notwithstanding, I whipped-out my credit card and popped, and if you wish, I'll loan you my Dick when done.

A lone artist puts the finishing strokes on the replacement setting for US presidential wannabe Barack Obama's "photo-op" in Berlin.

Barack Obama wanted to give a keynote address on transatlantic relations at the Brandenburg Gate during his visit to Germany today, however, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said "nein," reasoning that the site should only be reserved for very special occasion addresses by politicians, and only by elected American presidents.

I say, bravo, and props to the Chancellor! Seriously, this "stunt" attempt by Obama pretty much finished him for me. I mean, what happened to the guy who claims to be all about "change," and finding new breath apart from the status quo? Obama needs to make his own place in history by dealing with the present. The time has never been better.

Autogyro, a 2 seat, rotary wing, multi-utility, light sport aircraft, popular in the U. S., Europe, South Africa and Australia is now all set to be introduced in Indian aircraft market also. Though it resembles a helicopter in having a rotor at the top but in fact it is an aircraft in which the fixed wing is repalced by a rotating wing. Historically speaking, Autogyro even predates the helicopter, as it was invented by Juan de Cierva, a spanish civil engineer in the year 1920.

West Wind Aviation and Services Private Limited, which has joined hands with Microlight Aviation (a consortium of Indo-European Microlight Manufacturers) to manufacture Autogyros at its Microlight Airfield in village Pachar in district Sikar of Rajasthan. The company shall be manufacturing the autogyro under the brand name Super Genie Autogyro. The Company shall also manufacture a four different types of microlights, all of which have tricycle landing gear and low wing monoplane configuration. The Autogyro and the Microlights shall be priced in the range of 35 to 45 lacs depending upon the price and performane of the aircraft.

The company also plans to open up a flying school on the Microlight Airfield so that training for Pilot License (Microlight) can be imparted to the would be purchasers of the microlights. This training school shall be the first of its kind in Asia for imparting training on Autogyros.

The Company plans to display the Super Genie Autogyro and Phantom-MKI, a high performance Microlight at the Hyderabad Air show to be held in October 2008 where demonstration flights would be undertaken in full view of the public.[slideshare id=521010&doc=westwind-aviation-and-services-private-lmited-1216578384203397-8&w=425]

Vibhooti Singh Deora, CEO of the Company says that their first microlight should roll out within three months of the completion of certification process by the DGCA, and probably that shall happen by the beginning of May 2009. According to the Company, marketing for these aircrafts shall not be problem because the prices are almost equivalent to most of the luxury sedans available in India with fuel average even better than those. Therefore looking at the economics of the aircrafts the Indian market is all set to accept them. More than 100 registrations for these microlights have already been done most of which are from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi, Lucknow, Nagpur, Chennai, Shirdi and Rajasthan. According to Deora, many people have approached them and inquiries have been pouring in, the response is positive not only due to the low price of aircraft but also because in this way luxury car owners would now be able to fulfill their dream of becoming aircraft owners.

Though the concept is quite new to India but there is a possibility that Autogyros could get a better response in comparison to the microlights. One of the most distinguishing feature of the Super Genie Autogyro is that it is an inherently stable, safe and crash-less aircraft, i.e. even in case of a mid-air engine failure, it would land easily and safely with the help of its auto-rotating main rotor.

The other feature which distinguishes Super Genie from other aircraft is that it can fly as slow as 30 kilometers per hour, a speed at which other aircraft would lose lift, stall and fall to the ground like stones. Though the Super Genie can fly stably and continuously even at a height of just 6 inches above the ground, it can even go upto the height of 10,000 feet.

The Super Genie is 4 meters long, weighs 248 Kg., has a single 100 hp 4-stroke engine in pusher propeller configuration at the back, providing it the thrust required to move in the forward direction. The single non-powered free rotating rotor on the top acts like a rotating wing and provides continuous lift to the Autogyro. Super Genie does not need a runway but just 5 to 10 meters of hard surface or grass for take-off. According to the Company, their Autogyro consumes approximately 13 to 16 liters of MOGAS per hour (not 100LL AVGAS) and with just 60 liters, it can fly 600 kilometers non-stop at a cruising speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

Presently Autogyros are being used in Europe, the U. S., South Africa and Australia for pipeline and canal inspections, forest and highway patrolling, border surveillance, agriculture crop spraying, aerial survey and photography, sports and recreation.

Hopefully, you used the tax rebate check from the sequel, son of a stimulus package, to help the Chinese via the Bank of Wal-Mart, rather than further feed the beasts (your mortgage).

Planning a dinner party, and want to be certain you're including only the best of guests? "Miss Mannerisms" up there has some sage spiced advice worthy of note.

Consider this. Everybody knows about Ed McMahon's foreclosure probs with his Studio City, California crib, and billionaire host Robert Day probably wishes he had "covered his dish" before entertaining the notion of entertaining Ed.

Ed McMahon filed suit today in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming he tumbled at Day's home on the "unsafe entry stairs" one evening in March, 2007 rendering the 85 year old "live laugh track" unable to work, so naturally, unable to pay his mortgage. "Yeah, that's it!" Oh, what people won't do when faced with responsibility. I can see the grin on the Process Server's face handing the court complaint papers to Mr. Day whilst saying, "Here's...the law suit!"

McMAHON'S MANSION MORTGAGE MALADY

Ed's been trying to dump his house for over two years now, and just like every other Johnny in this market - no takers. Polite Realtors call this "situational bias," but, let me tell you something. That house has been a printing press of cash for Ed. In 2003, he settled a suit out of court for $7.2 million against his plumber for "water damage," which invited mold spores to the mansion, preventing him from working, got the wife sick, killed the beloved McMahon dog, and destroyed his "priceless" and "irreplaceable" career memorabilia.

Now, the slick dude in the video up there wants to do Ed and everybody a "favor" by picking up his defaulted note for a "song," flip it back over to Ed with a slight "haircut," saving/making Ed millions more...and where is the law firm of "Doowee, Cheetam, and Howe?" Son of a...

Honestly, I've learned my lesson. If you are wondering why I haven't had you over lately to break bread, look no further than your credit score. Unless you've got an 850 + FICO, whine all you want, you're not getting an invitation.

Speaking of song and dance, worthless memorabilia above from my collection, which I will gladly give back to Ed to ease our mutual "pain and suffering." This is a 1960 something LP of Ed's vocal "abilities," for Philadelphia's Cameo-Parkway label. "Priceless," is Ed's rendition thereon of "Georgy Girl." Just don't foreclose on my waterboard...please!

The Coast Guard issued a safety advisory titled "Controllable Pitch Propeller Systems and Situational Awareness".  The alert was issued after the analysis of the Alaska Ranger sinking in the Bering Sea this past winter.  Investigators found that when the decision was made to abandon ship, the propellers were still turning with astern pitch.  The resulting astern movement of the ship cause the life rafts to drift past the bow of the vessel, and were unable to be retrieved using the painters.  As a result, there were not enough life rafts present for the entire crew, and a majority of crew members were forced to jump into frigid water, ultimately leading to the death of 4 people.  Although I agree that controllable pitch propellers were a contributing cause to this scenario, the same incident could have occurred with or without controllable pitch propellers.  If the ships crew had left the the ship in ahead or astern propulsion mode on a non-controllable pitch ship, the same thing would have happened.  Regardless, I think this casualty is worthy of a look, and reminds us that the master and the navigational watch must maintain awareness and positive control of the vessel for as long as safely possible, even when ordering abandon ship.

In the "is this even possible?" department, Amy Winehouse manages to stay in the news by taking a swing at a "fan," (human, I suppose) yesterday during her performance at Glasto. If anybody knows what prompted the punch, they aren't telling, so, let's just say that of the 80,000 people in attendance, the dude seated front row center was in the right place at the wrong time.

Were it me (the human) I'd be shaking in my rumpled rehab robe. I mean, I have this mental trauma just thinking about being attacked by a 70 pound emphysematic crankster. I personally think Amy should get a gravity award for her ability to remain vertical under the weight of her coif and tattoo ink. Seriously, given her fragile state, and notwithstanding that Amy is a girl (I think), I'd certainly never return a jab, and, nor would I be so bold as to let my friends find about this.

Anyhow, kudos to quick action from the security boys, ensuring safety and freedom for the patrons to pursue other interests, like the concession stand, or voting in Zimbabwe.
