My SEO web copywriting rates as part of my Content Writer business are AUD 50 per hour for Austral

My SEO web copywriting rates as part of my Content Writer business are AUD 50 per hour for Australia and New Zealand, and were US$50 for North and South America and Asia, and 40 Euro for Europe. Very reasonable rates already for unique, professional SEO website content written by a skilled, international web copywriter with good SEO and marketing skills.

But the Australian dollar has been sliding over the past few weeks and I've decided to lower my US$ and Euro web copywriting rates for overseas clients.

This means for everyone in North and South America, Europe and Asia, my web copywriting services have suddenly become about 25% cheaper! I've lowered my US dollar web content writing rate from US$50 to US$40 and my Euro web copywriting rate from 40 to 30 Euro per hour.

So if you're thinking of hiring a professional SEO web copywriter to write, rewrite or edit your website, hiring this Web Content Writer in Australia is very cost-efficient for your business right now.

You can get cheaper SEO content in India, of course, but that's an entirely different category. I write unique and very professional website content with your business goals and your target audience in mind.

See my new, low web copywriting rates for international clients.

Information security for everyone is a big deal with me. I even have a weblog devoted to that very

Information security for everyone is a big deal with me. I even have a weblog devoted to that very ideal. So Julie Seedorf's Something About Nothing article, "Be careful of what you store on computers" definitely resonated with me.

I read an article from PC Magazine recently. It was titled “Day in the Life of A Web 2.0 Hacker.” Because many of my days consist of repairing damage done by viruses and hackers to people’s computers, this article was of interest to me.

I like the Internet. I remember years ago my first experience with the Internet. It was exciting to be able to read Web pages created by people many miles and countries away from my home. It was exciting to be able to connect with new people. The Internet was a new information highway that would revolutionize our life.

There is no question that the Internet has changed the way we receive our news, the way we do business and the way we are in touch with people. However, reading this article confirmed what I have been feeling recently. I am frustrated with the dangers that the Internet has invoked upon our society. I am frustrated with the controls we need on our computer to keep our information safe. I am frustrated by the lack of security enforcement by law officials.

While I completely concur with Julie's sentiments, isn't everybody aware of the risks of our Web 2.0 lives? Aren't there plenty of wise and erudite security experts providing all of the information that everyone needs to know about being secure? And what about all the excellent and ubiquitous security suite software packages available? Surely a tech savvy person like Julie has nothing to be concerned about. And clearly if you are a Republican VP candidate the Feds are quick to enforce even the most trivial security breaches at least as long as the Feds are Republicans. Sorry couldn't resist.

Unfortunately all of the preceding rhetorical questions are pure irony. Phillip Hallam-Baker's Web Security Blog article "Zero Overhead Security" sums it up this way.

Folk tell me that if you take 60 confused users, split them into three groups of 20 and show them different security interfaces they are all still confused. Well what did they expect?

A good part of the problem can be laid our door, fellow security professionals. We can certainly build brilliant complex software and our marketing and sales brethren can sell the heck out of it. But there is something very wrong when at the end of the day someone like Julie is left with this anemic solution.

The new security programs are good. The problem with many of the new programs is that they put blocks and watch everything we do on the computer and sometimes they make it difficult for us to understand how they work. These programs sometimes block sites that we want to use. These programs sometimes warn us more than we want.

Why am I writing this column? There is no fun in this column. I don’t feel funny about the Internet right now. I am here to tell you to put a good security suite on your computer and learn what it does and what you need to do to keep your computer and information safe. Make sure you update your virus signatures, keep your firewall on and be careful what you open.

Be careful of the personal information you share with others. Create strong passwords that contain a mix of numbers and letters and don’t use the same one for all Web sites. Watch what your kids and teenagers are doing on the Web.

All of these precautions may not protect you completely but they will help.

So why do I say this is anemic? Isn't this exactly what we've been telling Julie to do? Hasn't she hit on every "best practice" point? Enough with the ironic rhetorical questions. How about some concrete ideas that Julie or you can give your mom on security that will make a difference. In three earlier articles here, here and here I attempted to build a framework of ideas that mom should consider when getting a new computer and going online. What's missing from those articles are specific details. So without further ado:

Security Ideas for Mom - Revisited

Get a good firewall. Most of the popular security suites available will come with a desktop firewall, but not all of these are created equal and some are not even created well. Specifically several of the most popular include predefined exceptions for their "partners". Now I don't know about you, but just because someone has finances to partner with a security vendor does not imply that I should trust them. Note to vendors - transitive trust is not a desirable feature of a firewall. What I would suggest here is to think outside the software box a little (I know, heresy for a software geek, but I'm also an EE). Why not buy a hardware firewall? Like the ones that come with decent wireless access points. Even if you aren't interested in running wireless (yet) and only have a single computer (so far) this is still a great idea, not to mention a bargain. Given that the annual subscription fee for the most popular security suite is $60, you can get a very nice wireless router for that price. And you only have to pay for it once. Furthermore, setting up the firewall, and other features on a consumer NAT router is simple. They really aren't that smart. Which is a good thing. The only caveats are do not keep any of the defaults (i.e. SSID and passwords) and if you actually use wireless, lock it down to the specific hardware (MAC) addresses of the devices you want to allow on your network and turn off any broadcast or UPNP. Also turn off any remote maintenance. You can also use desktop firewall software along with a hardware firewall and NAT router, if you are paranoid (and you should be). Just be sure and get a good bidirectional firewall that watches outgoing as well as incoming traffic so it can stop spyware and adware that wants to phone home. Once you get your NAT router/firewall system in place, you need to go to Gibson Research web site and run ShieldsUP!. You should be completely stealth. A ghost on the internet. In my opinion, a hardware NAT router and firewall, coupled with a bidirectional software firewall eliminates most of the need for anti-virus software (more heresy I know). But l like the idea of cutting off the malware at the pass as is were.

If your computer is portable use full disk encryption. Period. No exceptions. Essentially full disk encryption converts the entire contents of your hard disk to random noise that cannot be deciphered without a key (passphrase or hardware key). There have been rumors through the years of groups like the NSA having the capability to break strong encryption, but trust me, you, me and mom are not worth the investment. The most widely known full disk encryption package is Microsoft Bitlocker, which is available with Vista Ultimate. For most average users, it's probably not worth the $300 upgrade to Vista Ultimate, but for business users that may be running Vista Ultimate on their mobile workstations, you should definitely contact the IT folks and get it set up. Fortunately there are some great (some would argue superior) alternatives to Bitlocker. I use the open source TrueCrypt package, because it runs on all of the platforms I use (Windows, Mac and Linux) and it's free. The point is that when you lose your portable computer when the disk is encrypted, all that is really lost is the hardware (assuming you have backups) which is by far less valuable than your data and personal information.

Get a good password manager. Certainly you can try to create and remember 50 odd strong passwords, but it's a whole lot easier to create and remember one strong password that can be used to access hundreds of your insanely strong and impossible to remember passwords. I've already written an article about this, so you can read all about it. There are some very good password managers, both open source and commercial. An important feature of the password manager you choose should be the ability to set up expirations on your passwords - i.e. something that reminds you to change passwords. For email accounts you should change the password every 6 months and financial services every 3 months. Since with a good password manager this is easy to do, feel free to do it more often.

Get different email addresses for different purposes. When you sign up with your ISP you get an email address that is your primary. If you intend to do Web 2.0 stuff, like say a weblog or a social networking like facebook or MySpace you should get a free online email address from Google (GMail), Yahoo (Yahoo Mail) or Microsoft (Windows Live Hotmail). Use this online account when you register for social networking sites. Then you can have your friends and casual acquaintances contact you via the social network site. Only use your primary email account (the one from your ISP) for banking and other communication where there is a risk of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) leakage. Do not give out your primary email to address to anyone but those sensitive accounts. This can be a problem if you've already let the horse out of the barn so to speak. Fortunately you can still get around it by sending out change of email address notices to everyone who has your primary asking that they use the new email address or contact you through your social network. If they don't, just ignore them. They'll figure it out. Or not. If you are involved in a legal or highly sensitive situation where privacy and confidentiality is crucial then you should check out a secure email service like VaultletSuite 2 Go. This service includes a minimal, but extremely secure email environment. For everyday it's overkill, but if you are sending sensitive messages to your lawyer, it is definitely worth considering.

Use different web browsers for different purposes. Let me be specific here: use Internet Explorer for your banking and financial sites, and no other sites. Use Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome or even another copy of IE for your social networking and casual surfing. The reason I recommend IE for banking and insurance sites is that they tend to work best (or only) with IE. Social sites, on the other hand tend to favor Firefox or Webkit (Safari and Chrome) browsers. Now wait, isn't it really inconvenient to share bookmarks between browsers? Yes. Exactly. Which is why you don't want to do that. Your banking browser should only have bookmarks for your banks. Actually sharing bookmarks is not hard and if you really want to share between multiple social browsers, get a del.icio.us account. With your public email from #4.

If you download software get a disposable virtual environment. Downloading anything from the web and installing it on your PC is risky business, even if it is from a reputable site, but it can be catastrophic if your tastes run to the wild side. The problem is that even decent shareware (of which I'm a huge fan) rarely uninstalls cleanly from Windows. And much of the stuff available for free download isn't decent. In fact a fair portion of it is infected with malware, malicious or just plain bad. What you need is a virtual environment where you can download this stuff, install it and try it out before you commit it to your real environment. This can be done a number of ways. Virtualization software like VMware and Parallels allow you to create virtual machines that are exactly that. If you trash one, you just delete it and move on. The downside, as you can well imagine, is that virtualization software requires a lot of resources (i.e. a very powerful computer) and it's not trivial. There is another kind of software that you can use to accomplish this: sandbox software. Basically a sandbox sets aside a place on your computer where programs can play nicely, isolated from everything else. Just like naughty children. The best known of these packages is Sandboxie. Using this kind of software, you can run any program "sandboxed". Then if it blows up, or simply tuns out not to be what you wanted, you just clean out the sandbox. If you do happen to decide that you want to keep your changes for real, you can recover everything to your computer. Trust me, this will save your bacon.

Keep your professional and personal stuff separate. By stuff, I mean everything: email accounts, social networking sites, computers and software. Everything. That means, don't pay games or have person email on your work computer. It also means don't copy that spreadsheet from work to your home machine. Now hold on, I can see not doing personal stuff on my work PC, but what's wrong with working on my personal PC? Actually, ask your IT folks which is worse. They'll tell you most emphatically that taking company data into an unsecured environment is way worse than stealing a some CPU cycles, hard disk space and time playing games. Either way it's bad for you and bad for business. If you really must check your personal email at work, then use one of your web mail accounts (see #4). Also be aware that if you are using your employer's computer equipment you have no reasonable expectation of privacy. Think about that before you fire off a note to that hotty you met last night. But what about connecting to the office VPN from my home machine? Well okay, but just be aware that if you have a home network where you share stuff like photos, music and files you could be sharing them with everyone on your company VPN. I'd think about that for a while. Finally if you work for the government, you may have safeguards and accountability requirements on your email. So don't be like Sarah. Nuff said.

I'm sure there are other good, and straightforward ideas for securing mom's computer. I would love to know about them. I would also love to hear about problems with the ideas I've put forth here [note - blatant pandering for comments]. Maybe we can make things a bit nicer for Julie and mom. Or convince them that the internet is funny again.

Not so long ago, I questioned the decreasing relevancy of LinkedIn in a Facebook world, but I think the recent downturn works in favor of this highly popular professional networking site. Given that folks are most likely to update their profiles when they are in career transition, it isn't surprising to see a flurry of activity following the recent round of layoffs.

According to Compete.com, unique visitors to the site has gone up by nearly 182%, while the number of visits has gone up by 205% since last year. As recent as last month, unique visits went up by 10%. It looks like the site is seeing a good uptick in user traffic and increasing user engagement during this downturn.

It's challenging to add new interesting and enagaging features to a professional site, while social sites can load up on the cutesy features much more easily but I think LinkedIn is definitely going about it the right way.

I especially liked the introduction of 'Companies' (still in beta), which is very interesting and relevant for jobseekers. However, it's still clunky and needs refining to make it easier to navigate. 'Answers' and 'Groups' add more stickiness to the site, but I think the site could benefit from more career-related rich content.

It's about the only credible professional site out there so that definitely helps its popularity, but UGC can only take you so far. Adding more relevant career-related content may get the users to keep coming back even when the economy is not in a downturn.

The boxes are unpacked. And here's our new home. The blog has the new look and the new address. I'm still using Wordpress and all of the old posts seem to have made the move without any left behind.

On the off chance that you didn't read my last post left at the old address, moving to this new place was a function of me taking my own advice. Since Buzzworthy Media no longer exists as a stand alone entity, my focus has shifted to building the "Jeff York" brand. It may be October, but I still haven't forgotten my New Year's resolution of building my own personal brand.

So, here you'll find all the weekly business and marketing thoughts and discussions you've gotten used to seeing at the old location.

I'd love to hear feedback on the move and the new look. This is also the perfect opportunity to open the floor up for a discussion on what you'd like to talk about in the forum. I don't write this blog for me. Well, mostly not for me. I write it to open discussions about marketing and business in general for you, the business owner or professional, looking for the nugget of information to launch a whole new thought process.

I've just added over three dozen more photos from my Adventurers Club archives to http://flickr.com/photos/truekkris including a few from the last night of original cast members Paula Pell, who played Pamelia Perkins, and Kerry Long as Millie the Maid.

I had that evening off and, with management's shrugging approval, visited the Club as an original character from Eastern Europe (Latvia or Lithuania or Estonia or some other -ia) named Miroslav Grabornik, who through the course of the evening fell in love with Pamelia.

At the end of Millie's Sing-Along, I got up on the Library stage and proposed marriage in broken English, to which Pamelia exclaimed, "This is so sudden! I had no idea!" And then she whipped out a bridal veil from behind Fingers and stuck it on her head.

Pamelia asked Millie to be her personal maid, and Millie said okay, as long as she could bring along an old friend. At that point Marcel appeared. He had not been present at the Club for some time, if I recall correctly, but one of the door hosts who had played him previously—and whose name I shamefully admit to have forgotten (Chet?)—re-enacted the role.

We all exited through the Main Salon, up the stairs, and out onto the porch. Marcel and I gave piggyback rides to Millie and Pamelia, and down the street we went, all the way around Mannequins to disappear into the night. I missed Paula, Kerry and Marcel for the rest of my term at the Club.

Probably got a hundred more various pics still to be scanned and edited and uploaded. Don't hold your breath.

Went out to eat with a good friend of mine and asked him if he'd be willing to contribute to my portfolio. He was thrilled! He'll be attending an event called Launch with his agency (potentil agency?) and he needs to update his portfolio as well so we're in the works of setting up some shoots.

here's a photo of him, he's the short haired model on the left. I'm also hoping to work with his friend on the right but we haven't set anything up yet. ^_^

[caption id="attachment_151" align="aligncenter" width="225" caption="mike and cole"][/caption]

and speaking of model mayhem, I'm working on getting an account there as well and once that happens, you'll be able to see a bit more of an actual "portfolio" and models i've worked with and whatnot...oh so much more professional. haha

if anybody else in interested in setting up a shoot, LET ME KNOW! I'm willing to do TF* (if you have a great look or idea/concept) or paid (i'm cheap and easy!!). I'm willing to travel to some extent. I'm also willing to travel further or do more involved/complicated shots if certain things are paid for of course. I do have access to a small stock of props, clothes and make-up and am more than ok with you bringing your own. I don't mind escorts. I'm laid back and fun!!!

ya, i know that might sound a bit desperate but i'm chomping at the bit to get going on some shoots expecially before fall is over and winter turns everything monochromatic!

Some very common things that a professional website design company will pay special attention to whe

Some very common things that a professional website design company will pay special attention to when creating and establishing a brand’s identity on the internet are elements like the company logo, the general layout and the colors used in portraying the brand.

This is all well and good as the above elements do make a tremendous contribution to the overall website design.

There are very few Boston web development professionals however, who will also pay attention to other small but equally influential factors like the font-sets used in the website design and the level of accessibility a particular brand has. Even the images and graphics used and image quality conveys tonnes where site usability is concerned.

Take fonts for instance. Ever since cascading style sheets or CSS cam into the picture, it has broadened the scope of web site design in Boston. Web development in Boston professionals have more flexibility when making use of this element in a web page, a landing page or on any other website promotional material.

Of course, the fact that different browsers will render your website design differently could be a potential concern. But with the right Boston web designing company working on your web space, it shouldn’t be much of a concern.

Cosmos Creatives Boston can effectively evaluate your business goals and image to formulate the right Boston website design plan for your organization. A talented team of web development and website design professionals can work to create a web space that is unique and stands out from the rest of the competition.

Last night I went to my first London Girl Geek Dinner. The first talk by Dr Elisabeth Kelan involved lots of statistics from her research about gender and working in teams, with the main point being that a 50:50 split works best. She was criticised by someone in the audience that her statistics didn't show anything new and that there was little difference in her results whatever the gender balance anyway. She rebutted this very intelligently, by explaining that each set of results showed a *slight* benefit when having a 50:50 split for each factor tested, and therefore the sum of each would show a significant benefit. Also she pointed out that just because common sense tells us something is true, lots of people still disagree and therefore it needs to be proven by research - and this was the first research to prove that a mixed gender team works best in a professional context. Dr Kelan went on to attempt to dispel some stereotypes, using her statistics. One example was that 98% of men in the top positions have children, whilst only ~50% of women in top positions have children, therefore (she believed), this was evidence that women are NOT more likely to request flexi-time than men. My only criticism with her talk was with this 'fact'. To me, that statistic does not prove that men might desire flexi-time more than women. To me, it just proves that the top men with children are able to have their children looked after by their lower paid female partners at home, so having children is not an obstruction to them gaining top positions, whilst women are much more likely to gain top positions if they have not had children, because (I presume) if they do have children, they are expected to take on most of the responsibility of childcare and flexi-time is not an option.

After dinner, Julie Lerman gave a talk which began with her explaining how in the 80s she had felt the need to dress down in a professional context, because her previous feminine look had attracted the wrong kind of attention from male peers. She explained how more recently, she has been pleased to see young women at male-dominated geek events are able to dress 'cute' without (as much) damage to their reputation. Then she showed a picture of a conference speaker's avatar/conference picture (which she had removed the head of to protect the woman's identity) which was taken at a typical 'MySpace angle' and showed some cleavage. The woman clearly had no bra on and you could see some nipple points through her unbuttoned grey t-shirt. To me, it was an inspiring image. I thought, "Yeah, go on girl! You are proving that women can be hot and intelligent at the same time! You are breaking down that stereotype of an ugly butch geek girl by shoving your cleavage in everyone's face." However, Julie said that she found the image saddening and was upset that the reaction to her conference talks was often revolving around a discussion of her boobs rather than what she was talking about. Julie went on to show pictures of herself being herself and to say how important it was to present your 'true self'. Julie said she wanted the session to be interactive, and for us to shout out when we liked... so I did.

I briefly said that to me, showing her true self might be exactly what the Cleavage Girl was doing. Julie responded saying that that might be true, and that as it is a complicated issue, that's why she hadn't said anything in person to this woman - Julie thought maybe it was a generational issue. Quickly, everyone had something to say. There were two very outspoken women - one who thought the same as me, and said that if women had shown their breasts in a context like that years ago we wouldn't be having this conversation now. Basically, that Cleavage Girl is liberating us all instead of continuing to pretend that Geek Girls don't have breasts.

The other woman appeared very upset, shouting out "No, no! You've got it all wrong! She is objectifying herself by using this highly sexualised image! You can be feminine without being sexual!". This woman went on to explain that research by Stonewall had shown that when someone is allowed to express themselves how they choose, they are more effective in the workplace. To me, this was far to close to the anti-sex, anti-porn feminists of the 1970s. Why do we think that a woman's sexuality is separate from her 'true' self - like a dirty secret she should keep in the closet? Insisting that a woman portray her professional, intelligent self in a desexualised manner means that we are positioning sexy women as unprofessional and unintelligent.

The general feel in the room was that there was a line between making yourself attractive in a professional context (e.g. putting on makeup) and being provocative - and apparently this woman had crossed it. But who are we to set this line for others? Maybe this woman thought that she had not crossed the line, for her, crossing the line might be going completely topless online. In other cultures, showing your hair is crossing the line, and many feel that those cultures are behind ours in terms of women's liberation. How is this different?

Additionally, an Online Community Moderator said that it was in women's best personal safety interests to not put pictures like this online. She had experienced people being stalked online as a result of posting personal pictures of this kind. I do get her point, but to me, this is too close to saying that women should not wear sexy clothes out at night because they are more likely to get raped. The fault is with the rapist, not with the woman for what she wore. Similarly, we should be protesting about the reaction Cleavage Girl got - we should be shunning those bloggers who sniggered and discredited her speaking online. It is the reaction that is the problem and should be stopped. Cleavage Girl in my opinion, is certainly not at fault.

I am tempted to create a Girl Geeks for Cleavage fanclub.

The Milwaukee Bucks opened up their 2008-09 exhibition season on Monday

The Milwaukee Bucks opened up their 2008-09 exhibition season on Monday in the Bradley Center in front of 9,873 fans against the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was a game that the fans would have rather not seen. The Bucks lost the game in a blowout with a final score of 117-79.

The lop-sided loss had a lot to do with five key contributors sitting this contest out. The Bucks players who missed the game were Andrew Bogut, rookie Joe Alexander, Charlie Bell, Luke Ridnour and Tyrone Lue. A couple of the Bucks starters played with Michael Redd scoring seven points in 19 minute and Charlie Villanueva led the Bucks in scoring with 14 points on the night. Other solid contributions came from Roman Sessions with 11 points and six assists. The second round draft choice of the Bucks Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added nine points in 25 minutes. Newcomer Richard Jefferson scored four points in limited action.

The Minnesota Timberwolves jumped out to a 32-21 first quarter lead and never looked back. They won all four quarters of the game. The Wolves were led by Rashad McCants with 22 points and 18 points from Center Al Jefferson. The Wolves shot 58 percent from the floor and eight-of-13 from three-pointer rangle while the Bucks shot just 34 percent and four-of-11 from three-point range.

Scott Skiles hopes to play more of his regulars as the preseason goes forward.
