Comme des Garcons (Rei Kawakubo) recently opened several pop-up shops in Paris that they are calling Pocket shops. This one, located in Marais, and looks pretty simple and inviting. I suppose that they are simply miniature versions of the pop-up shops that CdG has become famous for. No news as to how long they will be open, but definitely stop by for some CdG basics including accessories and items from the Play collection.

Here's a tip if you need to do postback in a popup window. I was
using the JavaScript showModalDialog function to launch an ASP.NET page in a
popup window. Which worked great, until I clicked on a button that posted back.
As soon as I clicked on button that posted back, it opened a new window. Not
exactly what I expected.

So after a little searching on the web, I found a simple solution. You need to
include this:

<base target="_self">

in the <head> section of the page. As soon as I did that, it posted back to the
popup window.

Cheers!!!

I recently wrote about the concept of an Agency Farm Team. The thinking behind a pop-up agency is no

I recently wrote about the concept of an Agency Farm Team. The thinking behind a pop-up agency is not dissimilar:

Porter Novelli, a leading public relations agency, is popping up on the list with a short-term, pop-up agency inside its halls, staffed by younger employees who have spent the summer creating campaigns for clients with fledgling businesses to promote.

The entrepreneurial pop-up is named Jack & Bill, after Jack Porter and Bill Novelli, who joined forces in 1972 to found Porter Novelli, an agency now owned by the Omnicom Group with 100 offices in 60 countries.

Eight Porter Novelli account supervisors and account executives — average age, 26 — have been running Jack & Bill on behalf of five clients that are receiving free services...

...Jack & Bill and its clients found one another in a way that turned upside-down — or perhaps pop-up-side-down — the traditional pitching process for selecting a public relations agency. Typically a client calls in several agencies to compete for an account; in this case, the partners of Jack & Bill asked potential clients to audition to win the pop-up’s free services.

Full NYT Article via Murketing

What's interesting about this idea is that Porter Novelli not only saw it as a way to develop emerging clients (as I had considered), but also to empower its emerging employees. It allows them to simultaneously showcase 1) their young talent, and 2) the firm's digital skills - while experimenting in social media and drumming up some press of their own. The project was scheduled for completion after NY Fashion Week, but apparently Jack & Bill may now live on.

Are we on to something here?

Played my first game for team "Who Dae Be?" out of TVA. We won- run ruled them. Then I stayed on to play two more games for teams that were short some players. Man, I had a blast! I went 7 for 9 on the night with three home runs (two inside the park, one over the left field fence) and two triples. Yes, that means I hit a few singles, but I am going to work on that. I am not a singles hitter. Still got to get used to waiting back. It's not quite college baseball, but it'll do. I played left center or center and had a ball (no pun intended-wait....yes I did...) tracking fly balls and tossing the ball right past the way too shallow cut-off man/woman to wherever it needed to go. I knew shagging so many balls during BP for four years at Belmont would pay off.

I got this baby while doing a pop-up slide into second. Eric said I was the only idiot who was dumb enough to try so hard in slow pitch co-ed softball that I would do a pop-up slide...but at least this idiot was safe!

No subestimar al average user ;). fuente: Conferencia The user experience 2004

At my last workshop I demonstrated the free standing pop-up card using the technique that I used on my last post, but the card I created was a bit different. The card you see here is the card I actually demo-ed and it seemed to be a hit. It is hard to pass along all the details during the workshop, so for anyone looking to find the specifics you can go to Split Coast Stampers for all the info. This card was also a lot of fun and will be going to my nephew for his upcoming 2nd birthday.

Azerrad é o autor de Our Band Could Be Your Life, bíblia do rock independente norte-americano (e obra que vai ser onipresente neste blog).
Firstly I need to define what I mean my pop-up Windows. The pop-up windows that cause trouble are no

Firstly I need to define what I mean my pop-up Windows. The pop-up windows that cause trouble are not internet explorer based windows, they are actually 'Windows' windows, (sorry if thats confusing). The ones that I am referring to are the ones that come up when, for example, you click on a download link. These are inherently a pain because of the fact that they are not IE windows. Luckily there is a pretty simple work around that i have come up with.

Ruby has access to the WIN32OLE library , which is basically like an API for windows applications. What you can do is use this library to catch these pop up windows. Below is the code that you'll need to run in a Ruby script:

require 'win32ole' #Loads the win32ole library
wsh = WIN32OLE.new(Wscript.Shell) #For more info click here
wsh.AppActivate('Connect') #Focuses on a given application based on its Title

At this point you can manipulate the window, for example, with a SendKeys command:

wsh.SendKeys("%{F4}") #This would close the program with Alt-F4

This clearly has it's limitations because during this time you cannot be doing things on your computer, because the AppActivate would fail. I am still looking for a lower level at which I can address this problem.

Now everyone likes to see code at work, so I have written a quick script that goes to the Notepad++ downloads page, clicks the download link, and then closes the pop-up download window. As a quick side note, if you do not already use notepad++ I highly recommend it!

require 'win32ole'
require 'watir'

wsh = WIN32OLE.new('Wscript.Shell')

ie= Watir::IE.new
ie.goto("http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm")
ie.frame(:name, "index").link(:text, "Download").click #Good example of how to execute a link in a Frame
ie.frame(:name, "index").link(:text, "Download Notepad++ executable files").click

sleep 20 #need to wait for source forge to load it is slow
ie1 = Watir::IE.attach(:title, /Source/)
ie1.link(:id, "showfiles_download_file_pkg0_1rel0_2").click

wsh.AppActivate("File Download - Security Warning") #Focuses on the pop up window
wsh.SendKeys("%{F4}") #Sends the alt-F4 command to the window to close it

Watir::IE.close_all #Closes all open IE windows

So if you are interested try the script out, I did try it out myself to make sure it worked, but let me know if you have any difficulties!

--Steve

I have 9 MB of space left on my iPod.
That is funny, if you ask me.
Which you didn't, but I'm sharing anyway.

People are stupid, that's all I have to say.

PostSecret's new stuff is good. Lately hasn't been quite as good as it's been before, but this weeks are pretty good. Some of them anyway. I like them. For the same reason everyone else likes them - we all find what we did (or didn't know) about ourselves that we dont' want to admit to others.
So, that's the fact of the matter of it all.
That, and the fact that so many people's handwriting looks the same - unless there's a lot by one person, which isn't the case....

Don't ask why, but I felt like listening to "Stay" by Sugarland.
Good song. Sad song. But good song. I won't go into details.

I hate how long it takes Wikipedia to load on my internet.
It's really annoying, because when you do a google search, that's pretty much where it takes you first.

Anyway, today is just blah.
Like yesterday.
A lot like yesterday.
I don't know what was goin' on yesterday.
Just blah blah blah.
More blah blah blah.
I do keep having paranoid thoughts. Of course I can make them go away, by proving them wrong, but they do pop up a lot more often than they used to. No idea why. But oh well. I used to be paranoid-er than I am now - for I am rather paranoid as it is.
I guess there's nothing I can do about it, for it's been here since like 7th grade.
Ain't goin' away anytime soon either, obviously.

Is it odd to still have imaginary friends at the age of 17?
I've been thinking about that since I flipped. Feels like that was a long time ago, but it was only a little over a week ago, if I remember correctly.
Anyway....When I was talking to Chambers afterwards, he had asked me if I had ever been to counseling. I said no, but my mom threatened me with it when I was like 7, cuz I would talk to my imaginary friends outloud. Come on, I was an only child, I was 7, didn't know any better. Anyway, I told Chambers that I stopped after that - well, stopped doing it outloud, I kept it all in my head.
Which, I still do that.
Of course they're not made up people. They're real people I know, just how I want them to be. Like, if this and this and this happened, what would happen next. That sort of thing.
Is that normal?
Or should I be worried?
You should understand that I've never told this before.
But I'm curious. Because I want to know. I don't find it as weird, for me it's normal. And I can't stop it. I've tried and tried, but it doesn't work. Every so often I have an episode, where my brain (someone in there anyway) is like you know this isn't real, none of it's real, and none of it is ever going to happen, and then I try to make myself stop doing it, but I can't. And then I have this war in my head, and it's all very confusing.
So........?

Tomorrow there is no school.
Thank goodness.
I don't think I'll be ready for that place again by the end of today.
The weekends are too short, the weeks are too long.
The confusion ensues.
And I get stupider and stupider.
Thanks, life.

I am reading Paul Newman's obituary on nyt.com, and suddenly an invitation to take a survey is slapped over the text I'm reading. Annoyed, I close the invitation. It seems obvious that this is a poor way to offer a survey. I've just started reading something of geniune interest to me, I'm a paragraph or so into the article, and a popup ad blocks my view, mid-sentence. Remember popups? Remember why they fell out of use? People hated them, and they reflected badly on the site and the advertiser alike.

I could take the survey and tell them how annoying it is, but I don't want to encourage them. I would like to hear about the response rate of this tactic from someone who actually knows.
