Here are the list of Firefox add-on plug-in I had been using for a while to test and debug for websites that I had been implemented, and not only that I can view a lot of buggy bad written Javascript (infinite loop) that make my precious Firefox Hang!!.
I think it is the perfect combination plug-in that a web developers must HAVE :

Cache Viewer :Another great tool, to check the content of caches your browser are stored and track
the storage capacity was used. Basically it the GUI version of about:cache.

Live Http Header : View Http header while browsing the web. Good to track the website you are visited.
Some say this tools can help you to track the port for private wifi WLAN such as
airport or public place but i haven't try it yet. I used it to track the content send out
to the websites. Get it from Live Http Header plug-in.

FireBug : Ah, the master piece of css and javascipt plug-in to help you edit, debug and monitor the
performance of your script running on browsers. I really like this tool, because you can even

El creador de The Sims, uno de los videojuegos más vendidos del mundo y que permite jugar con "temas reales" como trabajar y criar niños, lanzará su última creación: Spore, en la cual el jugador puede jugar a ser Dios y crear su propio universo.

Tras apasionar al público ofreciéndoles una vida interactiva virtual fuertemente inspirada en la realidad con la serie de The Sims (en la cual el jugador puede criar niños, ir al trabajo, a la biblioteca, a una discoteca, entre otras cosas), Will Wright propondrá a partir de septiembre a los jugadores en internet crear vida con Spore.

En el inicio del juego, el usuario se encuentra en los orígenes del mundo, cuando distintas formas de vida microscópica compiten por la supervivencia y construyen su camino a la tierra, donde evolucionan en criaturas que construyen civilizaciones y viajan al espacio.

Y es a través de las sucesivas elecciones del jugador que se va construyendo el universo virtual.

"La gran novedad de Spore es que prácticamente todo el universo del juego es creado por el usuario", estima Shane Satterfield, redactor en jefe del sitio internet GameTrailers.

El jugador es primero invitado a crear el ADN de su avatar, que puede tener escamas, aletas, alas, garras, ojos adicionales, apéndices extra o partes del cuerpo en lugares inesperados. Su elección influirá en el juego hasta el final.

Los personajes son dotados de una inteligencia artificial que determina, en función de los atributos físicos, el carácter y el comportamiento. Por ejemplo, una criatura a la que se le den colmillos será más hostil.

"Mis ingenieros tienen la difícil tarea de adivinar cómo algo va a moverse antes de haber visto a qué se parece", explicó Will Wright, sobre el juego que será lanzado en los mercados estadounidense y europeo en septiembre.

Los creadores virtuales transmiten luego sus genes a su descendencia, construyendo así verdaderas civilizaciones con ciudades, gobiernos y economías.

Se brindan instrumentos simples para concebir inmuebles, vehículos o hasta naves espaciales, lo que permite al usuario menos experimentado tomarle la mano rápidamente.

"Es más un experimento social que otra cosa", según Wright. "La ciencia, la economía, la sociología, cosas como esas son muy divertidas de simular en la computadora".

El juego culmina con lo que su creador describe como "la galaxia de juguete", donde el usuario puede explorar los mundos creados por los otros miembros de la comunidad en línea.

Spore evita lo que Wright considera una de las "incoherencias" de los juegos en red, que hacen evolucionar a cada participante en un único universo común.

"Todo el mundo puede convertir el proceso creativo en parte de la diversión, de la forma en que es (el popular juego de armar) Lego", declaró.

Ya se han vendido cien millones de copias de The Sims en todo el mundo, anunció este mes el editor estadounidense de videojuegos Electronic Arts (EA). MusicTracker – “Now Playing” feature for Pidgin

Pidgin is one of the best free-open source clients for instant messaging (simply chatting). Besides you can extend its features with the use of plugins. So lets get down to the main topic.. Most of you might have experienced the "Now Playing" plugin in WLM which basically displays the currently playing song in your personal message. But unfortunately Pidgin lacks in this feature. So as I wanted this thing very badly I'v googled.. and voila..!! I'v found a plugin called MusicTracker which is pretty easy to use and the best is it supports many famous media players like iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp & Foobar 2000. The only drawback is it shows song information along with your display name.

Configuring MusicTracker

Once you install it, open Pidgin and select plugins by clicking on the tools menu. Afterwards enable MusicTracker and click Configure. So you will be able to configure the plugin as necessary. By the way, I would like to recommend these settings for easy configuration.

Player: Auto-detect

Playing: | %p - %t

Paused: | %p - %t <paused>

So it will be like yourname | artist – song

One thing to point out though, that the use of %m switch won't work perfectly since the symbol is a Unicode character and some of the IM clients don't support Unicode in their text boxes. And make sure that you leave the "Stopped/off:" text box blank.

Yahoo compra Inquisitor

Molti di voi conosceranno certamente Inquisitor, il popolare e "immancabile" plug-in per migliorare il campo di ricerca di Safari.

Da qualche giorno, Yahoo (che ha da poco rifiutato l'acquisizione da parte di Microsoft) ha acquistato il plug-in. L'annuncio dell'acquisizione è stato accompagnato dalla versione 3.1 che ora ha come motore di ricerca di base - appunto - Yahoo (niente paura per gli utilizzatori di Google, il motore di ricerca si può scegliere nelle Preferenze del browser).

ps: impostando come motore di ricerca predefinito del browser Google IT il plug-in dovrebbe utilizzare Google e non Yahoo. Comunque, una controllatina nelle preferenze del browser non fa mai male!

Auburn Hills, Mich., Sep 13, 2007 - Chrysler LLC announced today the creation of ENVI -- a new organization responsible for bringing electric-drive vehicles and related advanced-propulsion technologies to market. Lou Rhodes has been appointed President -- ENVI.

Rhodes will report to Frank Klegon, Executive Vice President – Product Development, Chrysler and Simon Boag, Executive Vice President – Procurement and Supply, who will serve as co-chairs of ENVI.

"The creation of ENVI allows us to focus on the development of a new generation of environmentally responsible Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles," said Robert L. Nardelli, Chrysler Chairman and CEO. "Under Lou's leadership, ENVI will develop electric-propulsion vehicles that will provide customers with more fuel-efficient vehicle options."

Prior to being named President of ENVI, Rhodes served as Director – Advance Vehicle Concepts and Innovation, leading Chrysler's strategic program verification process in the early stages of development, architecture and platform strategy. Rhodes' prior background includes numerous assignments in Chrysler's Advance Vehicle Engineering organization and Product Design Office. He joined the company in 1993.

With a focus on creating energy-efficient vehicles, ENVI will be located within the Chrysler Technology Center (CTC) in Auburn Hills, and will be comprised of a team of specialists in engineering, portfolio management, modular architecture, manufacturing, and procurement and supply.

"ENVI will operate as a 'start-up' with an entrepreneurial environment," said Thomas W. LaSorda, Vice Chairman and President. "The organization is empowered to leverage the vast resources within Chrysler to develop appropriate solutions quickly. The unique structure will facilitate a speed-to-market development process, employing innovation in all aspects of the business and exploring new and unique ways of engaging target customers into the production development."

David Wantanabe, l'autore di Inquisitor, NewsFire, Xtorrent e Acquisition annuncia oggi nel suo blog che Yahoo! ha acquisito i diritti della sua celebre estensione per Safari. David scrive a proposito dell'acquisizione:

"Sono ansioso di assistere Yahoo! nella raffinazione e l'estenzione di Inquisitor. Credo sinceramente che Inquisitor ed i suoi utenti non potranno che trarne beneficio " poi scrive: "E 'importante notare che mentre continuerò ad essere il capo sviluppatore dietro Inquisitor per Safari, io non aderirò a Yahoo! come un lavoratore dipendente. Ho ogni desiderio e intenzione di rimanere uno sviluppatore per Mac indipendente, il che significa che Inquisitor, Xtorrent, Acquisition e NewsFire continueranno ad essere allo stesso modo tutte mie priorità nella vita"

Dodge's entry in this year's concept car sweepstakes is the ZEO, a four-seat, battery-powered sports car. The low slung Zero Emissions Operation coupe has 64kWh worth of lithium ion batteries packed between the frame rails. The electric energy is passed to a 268 hp electric motor mounted between the rear wheels. The battery pack should be sufficient for a 250-mile range in the 2,650lb ZEO (more numbers after the jump).

The bold fenders sweep over the 23-inch wheels and the windshield glass sweeps all the way back to the trailing edge of the roof. In typical concept car form, the nearly flat windshield will almost surely be impossible to see out of due to reflections and the tiny mirrors are likely completely useless. On the other hand, if Chrysler were to develop this for production, it would make a cool, somewhat more practical alternative to a Tesla Roadster.

Battery Electric Vehicle technology in expressive "2+2" Dodge sports car style

The 2008 Dodge ZEO -- Zero Emissions Operation – concept vehicle is a four-passenger, all-electric, "2+2" sport wagon that embraces the bold, emotional characteristic of the Dodge brand. With its 23-inch wheels-to-the corners, heroic proportions and muscular forms, the ZEO exhibits a new youthful breed of muscle-machine interface.

Dodge owners and those who will desire the ZEO concept are unquestionably driving enthusiasts. They are less family-oriented, with a desire for things that are high-tech, and place less emphasis on pure practicality. While they boast environmental and overall responsibility, they also exhibit a "need for speed."

"The Dodge ZEO concept is designed to break the paradigm of what an electric car should look like," said Bill Zheng, Dodge ZEO principal exterior designer. "An electric car can be as expressive as any gasoline-powered vehicle. The Dodge ZEO concept proves that point – and then some."

To this end, the ZEO's body has been given an active, three-dimensional form, with the fenders boldly offset to the body.

Dodge ZEO Concept Technology

The advanced propulsion system powering the Dodge ZEO concept is electric-only with a 64 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack capable of at least 250 miles.

Resting in a rear-wheel drive layout, Dodge ZEO's 200 kilowatt (268 horsepower) single-electric motor contributes to a 0-60 mph time in less than six seconds -- which rivals Chrysler's famed HEMI powerplant.

Unlike other such vehicles, ZEO is a four-door, four-passenger vehicle that delivers function as well as environmental responsibility.

Dodge ZEO Concept Exterior

Nestled between the robust circular wheel arches, ZEO's taut, elongated beltline ends with the signature Dodge kick-up at the rear, where the reverse-angle C-pillar is planted directly over the rear wheel arch.

Inspired in part by the architecture of a Möbius strip, Dodge ZEO's rakish A-pillars curve into extended roof rails that twist and converge as they race rearward. The windshield glass continues in an unbroken, curving plane nearly to the rear of the car, giving both front and rear passengers an unimpeded, all-around view while showcasing ZEO's inventive interior.

Other expressive details include "scissor" doors, front and rear lamps treated as separate sculptural forms, and the "ZEO Orange" and dark silver exterior.

"The lit crossbar grille," says Zheng, "is designed to communicate the use of electricity as the ZEO's power source."

Dodge ZEO Concept Interior

Inspired by organic forms and wireless technology, Dodge ZEO's interior is loaded with attitude and intelligence expected by youthful buyers.

"The Dodge ZEO concept is an example of designing for people who are used to a dynamic lifestyle and who are surrounded with information and virtual friends at all times," says Lou Gasevski, principal interior designer of the Dodge ZEO concept.

The entire cabin is treated as if it were a single piece of sculpture.

A broad sloping fabric-wrapped surface in front of the driver curves dramatically into the door and quarter panel. It then sweeps around the back panel to the opposite side quarter and door, ending in a sloping surface in front of the passenger.

This design approach blends the usually separate-looking parts of the interior into a unified whole. A narrow strip of blue LED accent lighting on the doors and quarters lead to the back panel, adding to the sweeping effect. Most of the interior surfaces of the ZEO concept are colored in Super White, adding to the sculptural impression.

A slim center console slopes down from the windshield of the Dodge ZEO, creating a dual-cockpit effect. It then levels off to divide the cabin by continuing clear to the back panel. To avoid visual clutter, customary controls and a viewing screen are set flush with the surface.

Instead of a conventional instrument panel, the steering wheel, column and instruments are treated as a single freestanding design element. The Dodge ZEO concept's steering wheel has two vertical spokes, set closely together, leaving 80 percent of the rim "open" for maximum visibility. The laid-back center hub, containing the driver air bag and auxiliary switches, is stationary, with the wheel rim revolving around it. Left and right horizontal paddle-levers just behind the wheel rim activate the remote radio functions.

The sloping plane of the center hub, which cantilevers forward above the steering column, houses the instruments which are displayed on a thin blue acrylic viewing screen set directly in front of the driver. The entire elegant multi-piece ensemble adjusts with the wheel rim to the driver's needs.

Doors and quarters are bisected by a flaring, wide-to-narrow dark gray panel separating the upper and lower surfaces – with the lower portion of the door and quarter curving inboard to provide an armrest surface. Milled aluminum door pull handles, placed diagonally, act as accents.

Contrasting colored Copperhead stitching follows the forms of the ZEO's Super White leather seats. For maximum comfort, the four bucket seats sport highly-contoured bolsters on the seat cushions and backs. When in the down position, the slim sculpted headrests nestle neatly into the tops of the upper seatbacks. The seat shells are constructed from milled aluminum, with video screens integrated into the front seatbacks.

With its bold exterior and curving, sculptural interior, the ZEO concept appeals to Dodge brand customers who want value, expressive design and useful technology.

A Microsoft desenvolveu um plug-in que insere a opção "Salvar como DAYSY XML" no Word, criando assim um audiobook á partir do arquivo de texto.

A idéia é transformar os textos em áudios, assim facilitando a vida de deficientes visuais.

Utilizando o software Pipeline, você pode utilizar os arquivos salvos em DAISY XML e convertê-los para o formato DAISY Digital Talking Book (DTB), e ouví-los em forma de narração.

O DTB disponibiliza várias opções, como definir a narração em aúdio de apenas uma parte do texto ou de todo, além de arquivos para sincronizar a narração com marcas de textos e suavizar a mudança de um arquivo para outro.

Lembrando que o plug-in é compatível com Microsoft Word 2007, Word 2003 e Word XP.

These two geologists working at Texas, are saying that converting light-duty vehicles from full gasoline power to electric power, either by converting hybrid electric vehicles to plug-in versions or fully electric power vehicles, will likely increase the demand for water resources. This is because the United States sources of its majority of electric power plants are from a petroleum electricity generation that requires large amounts of water for cooling off during the process. Changing the transportation vehicles to electric, will greatly increase the demand of power from these generations plants, it will impact the water resources. It should be considered, this negative impact. But for those of you that recharge your plug-in hybrid or future electric vehicles with renewable sources like wind and solar, will not have to worry about the greatly impact on water resources from where your electricity comes from.

Cafeterías, aeropuertos, restaurantes, autobuses... últimamente, parece que hasta las taquerías tienen puntos de acceso a WiFi gratuitos.

Sin embargo, no siempre se antoja cargar con una laptop cuando vas a comer o a tomarte un frapuccino.

Varios fabricantes ofrecen opciones para quienes no quieren cargar un equipo de 3 kilos, pero sí quieren mantenerse conectados.

Una opción son las subnotebooks, que pesan menos de un kilo, y con precios inferiores a 800 dólares; se trata de computadoras relativamente ligeras en cuanto a poder de cómputo, pero más que suficientes para navegar y tener a la mano tus documentos.

Y si hasta eso te parece muy pesado, varios reproductores multimedia han empezado a incluir navegadores, algunos completos, otros más rudimentarios, pero suficientes.

TOCAN MÚSICA Y TE LLEVAN A LA RED

Archos 705 WiFi

Con una pantalla de 7 pulgadas, el Archos facilita la navegación por internet. Adicionalmente, viene con disco duro de 80 ó 160 GB, lo que te permite bajar y disfrutar prácticamente toda la música o video que quieras.

Tiene un buen navegador de internet, que utiliza la pantalla táctil. Soporta juegos en flash y varios formatos de video.

iPod touch

Lo más nuevo en reproductores MP3, este dispositivo tiene una pantalla táctil de 3.5 pulgadas con una interfase similar a la de su pariente, el iPhone.

Viene con discos duros de 8 ó 16 GB y puede conectarse a internet en cualquier punto de acceso WiFi; cuenta con el navegador Safari en versión completa para que veas tus sitios en todo su esplendor. También puede acceder a videos de YouTube y a la tienda iTunes (aunque esta última no te servirá de mucho en México).

Cuesta de 300 a 400 dólares con distribuidores Apple.

PepperPad 3

Aunque no es "de bolsillo", la PepperPad 3 es un aparato interesante. Se trata de una tableta con conectividad WiFi que puede conectarse a un punto de acceso para navegar internet y revisar correo electrónico.

Cuenta con disco duro de 20 GB, pantalla táctil de 7 pulgadas, teclado completo y conectividad Bluetooth; usa el sistema operativo Linux y se conecta a internet usando el navegador Firefox.

Coqon Q5W

Cuenta con una pantalla de 5 pulgadas, y disco duro de 40 y 60 GB, además de un procesador AMD de 600 MHz, sistema operativo Windows CE y una versión simplificada del navegador de internet Windows Explorer, capaz de mostrar sitios con Flash (aunque incompatible con algunos sitios, como YouTube).

También puede adquirirse una base especial para el carro (por 200 dólares) que permite utilizarlo como GPS.

Haier Ibiza Rhapsody

Con un navegador de internet sumamente sencillo, este dispositivo —estéticamente similar al iPod— permite entrar a tus sitios favoritos de internet desde cualquier hotspot, aunque teclear la dirección puede ser lento. Sin embargo, claramente no es su función primordial; el Rhapsody, que usa el sistema operativo Linux, principalmente usa su conectividad WiFi para accesar la biblioteca de música del usuario, si es que es suscriptor del servicio de Rhapsody.

Su pantalla de 2.5 pulgadas no se presta mucho para la navegación. Cuenta con disco duro de 30 GB.

LAS 'NETBOOKS'

Varias empresa ofrecen laptops en miniatura, con pesos por debajo de un kilo y precios inferiores a los 800 dólares. Bautizadas como "netbooks" –porque son máquinas estilo notebook, pero con la función primordial de navegar por internet–, han empezado a ganar mercado, especialmente entre estudiantes.

Aunque algunas corren un sistema operativo basado en Linux y sólo pueden usar las aplicaciones preinstaladas, otras utilizan Windows; lo que todas tienen en común es que son ideales para aprovechar el WiFi en cualquier parte.

Mini-Note 2133

No porque tu computadora sea ultracompacta tiene que ser minimalista. La recién anunciada Mini-note 2133 de HP tiene varias versiones, y la de 749 dólares viene con una pantalla de 8.9 pulgadas y resolución de 1280 por 768 pixeles, un procesador de 1.6 gigas, 120 GB en disco duro, y la edición de negocios de Vista. Esta máquina se las arregla para seguir pesando solo un poco más de un kilo.

CloudBook

Esta máquina también es una miniatura con Linux. Esta portátil de Everex lleva la ventaja en lo que al procesador se refiere, ya que sus 1.2 gigahertz superan considerablemente a los 0.9 de la máquina de Asus.

Su capacidad de almacenamiento también es muy superior: 30 GB contra 4 u 8. Por otra parte, el diseño de la CloudBook le ha parecido menos inspirado a los fans, particularmente por la dificultad de operación de su trackpad.

Afloat : Update

Hey everyone, so its’ been a few days (Word Press says its was yesterday, but its got me in some funky time zone) since I took the time to review the OS X plugin “Afloat.” I standby what I said, about how its user friendly, and has a nice interface. I also standby what I said about a few of its errors. However, I take back what I said about it not being useful! After using it, I really like what it does sometimes I really need some windows to be transparent! I use it mostly with iChat because I want to be able to do whatever it is that I’m doing distraction-free, but still keep an eye on the chat (and of course respond when needed). Also, Im not having any more problems with text overlapping! Which is always a good thing! So I’m changing that ⅖ rating to a ⅘ because it’s a VERY nice little plug-in!

Yahoo quiere dar batalla a sus grandes competidores, dicen que nunca es tarde, pero a Yahoo ya se le fue mucho tiempo y de ser quien dió la pauta del desarrollo de internet hace años, ahora es uno de los que menos brillan.

La empresa de Internet Yahoo Inc está trabajando para redirigir la docena de servicios que ofrece para que los usuarios puedan acceder a su información en un sitio, donde podrán compartirla con sus contactos.

El esfuerzo es parte de un plan más amplio para hacer que los usuarios compartan información sobre ellos mismos con otros usuarios de Yahoo y con otros portales compatibles, en un intento de la empresa para seguirle el paso a redes sociales como Facebook y MySpace.

"No estamos construyendo otra red social", dijo Ari Balogh, jefe de la división tecnológica de la firma, en una conferencia impartida en la Web 2.0 Expo en San Francisco.

"Estamos dando un giro social a todo lo que hacemos (...) Estamos literalmente en el proceso de reescribir Yahoo desde dentro hacia fuera" aseguró.

Los perfiles unificados y los esfuerzos para hacer más fácil la difusión de la información personal con los contactos, es parte de una estrategia más amplia llamada "Y!OS", que será lanzada este año.

Manteniendo su postura de aferrarse a su independencia, a pesar de una oferta de compra no solicitada, efectuada por Microsoft, Balogh afirmó que esta unificación le proporcionaría a los usuarios de Yahoo el control de cuanta información desean revelar.

"Vamos a unificar los perfiles a través de Yahoo", dijo Balogh, que fue nombrado en su cargo un día antes de que Microsoft lanzara su oferta de 31 dólares por acción sobre el buscador.

Microsoft ha establecido como fecha tope el sábado para que Yahoo acepte los términos o deba enfrentarse a una oferta hostil.

FEBE : une extension Firefox qui permet de sauvegarder les autres extensions

Firefox est très richement doté en extensions de toutes sorte, et il en est une que j'ai découverte récemment et qui présente l'intérêt de permettre de sauvegarder un certain nombre de choses de son navigateur favori, et notamment les autres extensions, les thèmes, les marque-pages, les préférences, les plugins de recherche, ...etc.

Cette extension nommée FEBE permet de sauvegarder tous ces paramètres dans un répertoire, il est même possible de planifier une sauvegarde à intervalles réguliers.

Il est ensuite très facile de restaurer tout ou partie de ces éléments.

Une fois installé, FEBE est accessible dans le menu Outils.

Cette extension peut être utilisée pour faire un back-up de secours, mais aussi pour migrer d'un pc sur un autre, voire même pour partager avec d'autres personnes.

Petit rappel : pour obtenir des extensions Firefox vous pouvez cliquer sur
Outils==>Modules Complémentaires==>Obtenir des Extensions (ou alors utiliser directement ce lien).

Une fois que vous avez trouvé l'extension qui vous convient, cliquez sur Ajouter à Firefox et laissez vous guider.

Basic Electrical, Replacing an Outlet

There are several reasons that you might need to replace an electrical outlet. You may have just painted a room and need to coordinate the color of your outlets and switches to match, or maybe your upgrading from old worn out ones, whatever the reason, here is how you can do it yourself.

The first thing that you want to do is make sure that you have cut off the power to the outlet before you begin. Electricity has no sympathy for an honest mistake, so be sure the power is off on the circuit that your working on. It's easy to do, just use a circuit tester like the one in the picture, or plug a lamp into the outlet and turn it on. Then go to your breaker box and locate the right switch for the outlet circuit and turn it off. Be aware that not all circuit breakers are marked correctly, if at all in some homes, that's were the circuit tester or lamp comes in. After you've turned off the circuit, check to see if the tester or lamp is off, if so your ready to continue, if not, try a different circuit until you get it turned off. Never attempt to change an outlet or switch with the power on.

You only need 2 tools to install a new outlet, a pair of wire strippers and a screwdriver like I have pictured here. I like a multi-screwdriver with reversible tips. That way I have the right screwdriver for nearly any screw. The wire strippers I have pictured allow you to trim back wire insulation if you need to, and have a nice plier type tip to assist you in bending the wire if needed as well.

Start by removing the center screw in the cover plate and removing the plate. It might be stuck to the wall from old paint, just pry it loose and it'll come right off. There are 2 screws that hold the outlet to the wall box, one at the top and one at the bottom, just crew these out to allow you to pull the outlet out of the wall box. Now you can see the wiring. Some older homes only have two wires, a black one (hot wire) and a white one (the neutral). In a newer home you should have a bare ground wire to.

Remove the wires form the old outlet by loosening the screws that secure them to the outlet. When wiring up the new outlet be sure to put the black wire on the gold colored screw and the white wire on the silver screw. These screws are also marked on the back of the outlet so you can't get them mixed up. This ensures that the polarity is correct for the outlet. The bare wire goes on the green screw (ground). When making these connections, you want to make a hook with the end of the wire (like in the picture) to go around the screw, then tighten the screw. Make sure that all wires are connected correctly and all screws are tight, even the screws that don't have wires on them should be run all the way in.

Push the outlet back into the wall box and secure with the top and bottom mounting screws and install your new cover plate.

It's a good ideal at this point to have a circuit tester, so when you turn the power on you can check to see if the connections are correct. The tester has a legend on it so that you can easily see if your outlet has the right polarity and ground. It's a good idea to to check all outlets in your home, this can indicate a potential problem with your wiring if your outlets don't test good.

And that's all there is to it. Remember to be safe when dealing with electricity, and have fun with your home improvement projects.

Photoshop Tip #1: Where to get brushes?

Okay, so you’ve seen some amazing work online and wondered where the artist got all those astounding background effects or how they did that cool layered effect. Well, as surprising as it may sound, some of those effects were done using a very common Photoshop preset: Brushes.

You may be asking yourself, don’t I already have brushes installed with my Photoshop CS3 (or CS2) software? Well, yes, you do. But those are the basics. There are a ton of awesome people out there in internet land who are making additional brushes (and other plugins) for you to use with your software. These plugins are very easy to download and install. I will try to give you a short rundown of what to expect when installing these brushes. For more information as to how to use them or for more detailed installation information or installation for a MAC OS, please consult the very wonderful Photoshopsupport.com, a very neat index of everything Photoshop!

(Please note: The following instructions are very, very simplistic because I wanted even the novice Photoshop user to be able to use these tools. I know there are a bunch of different ways to do these things (even some that are easier), but I wanted to put it in basic terms without all the fancy language and extra steps because I remember how it was when I first started teaching myself to use the Adobe programs. Plus, this is not intended to be a full fledged tutorial.)

The first step is to download some really cool brushes from an online provider. Some brush sets you will have to pay for, others are free with some restrictions, and others are completely free. Make sure you read the website’s policy before you use them. You can view my Photoshop CS3 (and CS2) Brushes journal entry to visit the websites where I have downloaded most of my brushes from. Most of them have free areas or are completely free and all you have to do is link back to them.

Once you have chosen the brush set to download, simply download it to your computer. Because the files are normally saved in a Zip file, I start off by downloading the file to my Desktop first and then moving them over after (this is to avoid confusion). However, if you feel comfortable unzipping them right into the proper file, then by all means go-ahead-with-your-bad-self!

After you have downloaded the Zip file to your Desktop, you will need a program (such as WinRAR, which is what I use) to unzip the file.

At this point, you may be asking where you unzip the file to? Well, inside the Zip file may be a read me (.txt) file and other junk (which may be of interest to you) and there should also be a brush (.abr) file, which is the one you want to unzip. You can unzip the brush file onto your Desktop and then move it over manually, or you can unzip it to the Photoshop directory itself. Regardless of which method yo use, your ultimate goal is to get that .abr brush file into a specific folder in your Photoshop program’s file. For brushes, the file you will want to place your .abr brush files into is the “Brush” file within the “Presets” file. So, how do you get there?

Open your My Computer and find the drive which has the folder “Program FIles”.
Now, open “Program Files” and then find the folder labeled “Adobe”.
Next, open the “Adobe” folder and you will see ALL of the Adobe programs, which are installed on your system. Locate the “Adobe Photoshop CS3” (or CS2) folder and open it.
Find the “Presets” folder and open it.
Finally, you will see a folder called “Brushes”. Open it.
You can now see ALL of the brushes that are installed to use with your Photoshop program. This “Brushes” folder is where you want to place all of your downloaded .abr brush files.

So, the quick breakdown to find the “Brushes” folder is:

Program Files >>> Adobe >>> Adobe Photoshop CS3 (or CS2) >>> Presets >>> Brushes

Once you have unzipped the files or drag-and-dropped them into this file folder, you can close the folders. You will also need to re-start your Photoshop program in order for the brushes to be finalized and installed and ready for use (sometimes, you have to re-start your computer as well).

After you have re-booted your software, open a blank file and click on the “Brush Tool” or simply press its keyboard shortcut ( B ) to activate it. Now, right click anywhere on the page and your brush palette should appear (this is where you control the brush size/hardness, etc.) and in the upper right hand corner you should see a little black triangle with a circle around it. Click on that little triangle/circle icon and…. whaaaaa-la! Your newly installed brushes are there just waiting for you to experiment with them! All you have to do is click on a preset and it will ask you if you would like to load those brushes. Click “Ok” and they will appear in your brush palette waiting to be used and abused! So, go have fun with your new brushes and get creative!
