Throughout the game, players can collect various parts to customize their ship. When using parts from the same set, the ship's stamina increases, the max being 8. While sailing the high seas, players can shoot down foes with the cannon, salvage treasure from the bottom of the sea, and even catch fish. Other seafarers offer side quests, treasure, and opportunity, and the Beadle is a traveling salesman selling potions, bomb bags, quivers, bombchu bags, treasures, and ship parts. Players can find fortunes on uncharted islands, some of which have mini games and others offer secrets and special abilites. (There's a really special island on the east side of the Northwest sea chart if you're playing The Phantom Hourglass and wondering what the jumping golden frogs are for ^_^. When solving the riddle, think whale)

The Phantom Hourglass also comes with a multiplayer Battle Mode, which is essentially a glorified cat-and-mouse game. Two players take turns in controlling Link or three "Phantoms," large, lumbering, armored beasts that possess immense strength. The player controlling Link must scurry to collect "Force Gems" of varying sizes (The larger they are, the more points they reward) and carry them back to their base. Larger gems are heavier, and therefore make Link slower, increasing the chance that he'll be hit by the Phantoms. The player controlling the Phantoms directs them by drawing paths on the touch screen. They cannot enter safe zones (Where the Force Gems start out) and move somewhat slowly. As a result, the player must use wits and cunning to trap Link and hit him. Once the timer of 120 seconds counts down to 0, or a Phantom hits link, players switch roles. Whomever has the most points in the end wins.

All in all, this is a very good game, arguably the best Nintendo DS game out there. I give it 6 out of 5. I feel like I've sort of been on vacation for the past couple of weeks. I mentioned going up to the family cabin (nice respite), and then there was the July 24th holiday (Utah only), and just this past weekend, The Guy surprised me with another trip down to Vegas. Now, I don't know if you recall that I said I would rather be dead than visit Vegas, the seventh circle of Hell, in July. I was just there with The Guy 5 weeks ago and the heat brought on a terrific migraine for me. So when he calls me up at work a week ago and asks, "Can you take off work next Monday?" "Why?" "Because I'm taking you to Vegas again" - well, I started to worry just slightly about the heat. But of course I said YES, I'll GO!

To tell the truth, it wasn't that bad. It was actually cooler on Saturday and Sunday than it was back in June (Monday was a different story altogether). I ended up being able to run outside no problem...just really, really early so that the heat that gets baked into the black asphalt didn't melt my eyeballs out. I'll say this for running in Vegas: you will never get lost. Why? Because you'll sweat so much that you'll leave a nice trail for someone else to follow.

We walked and walked and walked which is what you do in Vegas when you go up and down the Strip. You go in one hotel, explore, and then walk through to the next, passing all sorts of interestingly dressed folks, and so on and so forth. We ended up seeing Phantom, the Spectacular at the Venetian and The Guy was very impressed with their staging and effects. I've seen Phantom several times and this was another great production. It's been shortened about 30 minutes or so to accomodate more shows (cha-ching!) so thus the name change. But the drama, the singing, the love story - bueno. All very, very good.

We also happened to catch a show of Carrot Top's, a show I have never really wanted to see and that The Guy was very excited about. I have to say that I went in with great skepticism; I'd seen him on late night talk shows and I found him to be a little funny but more often than not completely annoying. In person? That guy is FUNNY. And smart. He was a little crass a couple of times but for the most part, we were both laughing so hard we were crying! One little tip on the tickets: we ended up getting ours for both shows at the Tix4Tonight booth down by the MGM Grand and paid 1/2 price for both shows. WORTH the effort to get down there and get in line. DO IT.

This most recent Vegas trip was so much more enjoyable and relaxing than the last. Neither of us are gamblers but we enjoy the shows, the variety, the endless food (buffet after buffet after buffet - ahem, why I went running every darn day), and the shopping. I have to say I was impressed that The Guy was a willing party to come in some stores that I know he wouldn't be caught dead in normally. Especially since I handed him my purse several times, had him hold shoes for me, skirts for me, accessories of all types for me, bras for me (just joking, Mom!), and really didn't complain (too loudly). Kudos to men with patience for women who shop.

For those looking to get a good deal away from the Strip, I suggest where we stayed: South Point Hotel. It's 5 miles south of Mandalay Bay and such a nice place away from the major hustle and bustle. They had just completed a new tower and lucky us! we both got rooms in the tower that HAD NEVER BEEN SLEPT IN BEFORE. There was even this nice little welcome letter saying, "Welcome! You are the first guests to occupy this room..." Do you know what that means? NEW furniture, NEW flat screen TV mounted to the wall, NEW towels, NEW bathroom, NEW bed, and best of all BRAND SPANKING NEW sheets!! That is something I may never experience again - and it was wonderful. :)

The Guy and I really did enjoy ourselves quite a bit. We did have a brief conversation about a particular something that should hint at what we've been discussing lately...A LOT:

The Guy: How come a guy's wedding ring is so much cheaper than a woman's? Why can't they be equal in price?

Moi: Do you want some big, ginormous rock sitting on your finger?

The Guy: No! Of course not. I just think...hey, wait a minute-what do you mean by some 'big, ginormous rock'? What are you thinking here?

Moi: I'm not thinking anything, just playfully suggesting...

The Guy: A-huh. I'm just saying that a guy should spend the same amount for a ring that the girl does.

Moi: Look, I didn't make up the rules regarding rings and costs and sizes and such. I just follow them. And it seems to dictate that the girl gets the rock while the guy gets the band. Now, if you'd prefer some godfather-type of ring for yourself, well...

The Guy (exasperated): Oh for heavens sake, no. Geez, it just seems that women get all the breaks...

And THAT little comment started up another fun debate. Regardless of our gender role debates (oh, the disparities that we both observe!), I still had a good time in Vegas. As much as The Guy loves Vegas, I'm thinking we'll be there again sometime soon...

Hello again!  Still hard at work on filming Season 1 of the show.  Making some good progress.

On Saturday our friend Adam did a photo shoot with us for the redesign of the web site.  The picture above is just one of the many awesome pictures he took.  We urge you to check out his blog Adam In the Air.  He is learning to be a pilot and his blog documents all his learnings and such.  Definitely a good site to check out!

We are currently cutting together a Pre-Release Teaser for Season 1 which will feature music and clips from the show.  Hoping to release that sometime this August. 

The theme song for the show turned out really great!  A huge thanks goes out to Matt O. for composing and recording it.  Matt O. also plays the character of RAT TAIL on the show.

Qué lástima que yo no tenga un abuelo /que ganara una batalla/ retratado con una mano cruzada/ en el pecho, y la otra en el puño de la espada. El Duende tampoco tuvo ese abuelo, pero quedaba la memoria del tío Carlos, que ganó varias batallas antes de una granada le segara la vida en el frente ruso. Y justo unos días antes de repatriarse.  Los abuelos llevaban con tanta resignación su dolor por la muerte del hijo en aquella guerra lejana, que preferían no hablar mucho del asunto. Y tuvo que ser el admirable general que plantó cara a Tejero el que le recordara el honor y la gloria de su compañero de armas. Desde entonces, la prima Ana María, a la que sólo había visto con su padre en una diminuta foto en blanco y negro de la época, pasó a ser la hija del capitán Figuerola-Ferretti.

 Y la niña no salió menos valiente. Vivía con su madre viuda en Toledo cuando, como ella, se enamoró de un militar, esta vez teniente del Ejército del Aire. Se casaron y tuvieron cinco hijos. Desgraciadamente, su marido Juan Remírez de Esparza, que ya había ascendido a comandante, murió pilotando el primer Phantom que se estrelló en España. La prima Ana María reeditaba así la tragedia de su madre con cinco chiquillos agarrados a su falda. Pero, como la Madre Coraje tirando del carro en el drama de Bertold Brecht, no le volvió la cara al destino, y sin una sola lágrima de más, tuvo arrestos para sacar adelante a la familia con notable éxito. Padre, esposo e hijo perdidos en acción de servicio. Demasiado para cualquier mujer. Siempre que no sea como la prima Ana María, que ha sabido sublimar su dolor y convertirlo en balsámicas sonrisas para los demás. Qué mujer. 

 En casos cómo éste siempre se pregunta uno qué puede hacer por las personas que sufren tanto infortunio. Nunca lo ha sabido el Duende. En cambio sí tiene claro lo muchísimo que ellas hacen por los demás. Basta ver cómo mantienen el tipo, sin que el llanto yugule la mucha vida que llevan dentro, para que todos tomemos conciencia de lo importante que es la voluntad y el coraje. Como ocurre con otra muy valiente Ana -Ana María Vidal-Abarca, viuda del comandante Velasco, asesinado por ETA- cada encuentro con ellas es una loción de tónico vital. Por muchos años.

 Así que fue doble alegría felicitarle por su santo y saber que lo disfrutaba en una playa gallega. Porque la prima no se resigna, y, consciente de que el destino le debe tanto, está dispuesta a cobrárselo con creces. De momento, en su Administración de Lotería de la calle de Narváez 56 ya ha repartido varios gordos de Navidad que su primo el Duende no pilló por los pelos. Y mal harían los lectores de este blog si, a partir de ahora, no compran ahí los décimos que sin duda acabarán recompensando la meritoria historia de la hija de este noble capitán de apellido tan familiar.

この間の土曜日、７月１９日２００８年は先輩の結婚式でした:)。ちなみに、ＭＯＤがサイプレス、ＣＡであって、デートの子を拾いにトーレンスまで一旦戻り、サイプレスの隣町、ガーデングローブへ戻りました。いや、走った走ったｗ。もちろん楽しかったですよ♪結婚式のセレモニーはガーデングローブのクリスタル・カティードラルで行われました。中の一枚がコレ。

and here we are at the water front hotel. since it was a vallet parking only, me and my other friend went to go look for a street parking. since i took my gti and my friend brought his nsx, we did not want those vallet guys mess'n with our cars. so we were looking for a parking for like 20min... lol and once we stepped in, the reception was already starting. so we ran in. and there we saw a different group's wedding ceremony lol!!! hahha that was soooo embarassing lol hahha! but yea we are no safe at our arranged table.

そして着きましたよ二次会の会場。バレットパーキングしか無くて、先輩と二人でストリートパーキング探しました。自分はﾔﾝﾁｬなgtiで行ったし、違う先輩はＮＳＸで来てたし、バレットのヤツ等に壊されたくなかったんで。そして探す事２０分弱（笑…やっと見つけました。会場内に入るとすでに始まってるではありませんかっ！！。とりあえず小走り。そしてドアを開けて人だかりの奥の方へ行くと…あれ？違う人の結婚式だった！！！笑。超恥ずかしかったよねｗｗ。でもまぁ無事つきました席に。そんな一枚。

He is my first SD ever. His name is too long so I'll just call him my Evil Tangerine :) *I'm assuming hes a bad guy* He was a simple build,with only 3 sprue's,2 little rubber sprue's,and a mini sticker sheet,taking about 20 minutes to complete. Got him from ANIME KING on EBay for 11 bucks. *By the way he is a great seller,with fast shipping too. *He was a lot shorter then I expected,only 3 & 1/2 inches tall O.O,puny dude. But he does come with a lot of weaponry. Surprisingly I thought the white part on his shield would be molded in color but it wasn't,instead it was converted as a sticker:( The box art is pretty cool too. He looks cute because of his shrimpy size but he's vicious...Sorta like a Pomeranian haha XD

Anywho, with a bit of a drive ahead of me, I was worried about how i'd occupy my senses not used up in driving you understand. Not that there are any sense not used in driving, really it's an all-round experience.

So the lovelies at Phantom had a load of interviews, some tunes, a bit of atmosphere from Oxegen, and it was mighty! I really enjoyed the different interview snippets, particularly the Black Kids and Los Campesinos out at Phunchestown, oh I could do this all day.

They had a few tunes and just bits and pieces, was really nice to hear though.

sounds a little crazy I know, infact when I started reading this para in the book. I was wondering why and how come the writer mentions something so boring, grosse, eeeeheeew on the 2nd last page of the book. I do want to leave the book with a smile, but well I did and this is how...

These(and the following) lines took my heart away. It was interesting to read how he had related phantom pain to recalling and visualing lost ones. According to Oscar, (the character who writes the above lines for his daughter) it helps in dealing with the pain.

I almost do that. Never realised this mechanism had a name. I used to feel quite abnormal and once wrote a blog about how I live a three lives in my head. But wow! - today I find that the science recognises this and infact has a name to it.
