          Historia

      Esta historia se inicia en el año de 1968, aproximadamente en el mes de mayo, el Ing. Eduardo Machorro (q.e.p.d.), se echó a cuestas la responsabilidad de formar el grupo de jugadores infantiles gracias al apoyo incondicional que brindara el Presidente de la C.A.F.A. de la U.N.A.M. Fue como surgió el Club Infantil de Fútbol Americano llamado "Pumitas", correspondiéndole el honor de ser el primer presidente del club al Ingeniero Químico Eduardo Machorro Delmonte (q.e.p.d.).

      Es en ese año que "Pumitas" inicia su participación en categorías infantiles en la Liga Mexicana de Futbol Americano Pop Warner, teniendo representativos en las cuatro categorías existentes en ese entonces, Peewee, Midget, Junior Bantam y Bantam, correpondiéndole a esta última el orgullo de ser el primer equipo campeón del club, siendo comandado por el querido Alberto "Chivo" Córdoba (q.e.p.d.). Fue tal la respuesta que ese mismo año "Pumitas" participó contra otras organizaciones en categorías preinfantiles, llamadas en aquél entonces Bomberitos y actualmente conocidas como Cachorritos.

      En 1969 se lleva a cabo una reestructuración de "Pumitas", y se convierte en PUMITAS, A.C., y por lo tanto se le da forma jurídica con reglamentos y estatutos.

      En 1970 se convocó a un concurso para elegir el emblema de PUMITAS, A.C., siendo el ganador y autor del emblema (el pumita equipado y caminando, con el número 68 en el jersey) Arturo Romero Terrés, jugador de la categoría Midget.

      Es también en ese año que la Liga Mexicana de Futbol Americano Pop Warner, designó a la porra de PUMITAS, A.C., dirigida por la Sra. Irma Fernández Morales de Lara "Mimis" como cariñosamente se le conoce, como la mejor de ese año, otorgándole el único trofeo especial de la temporada. Trofeo que en las subsecuentes temporadas de la Liga Pop Warner se instituyó oficialmente y que a partir de 1970, PUMITAS, A.C. ganó por cinco años consecutivos, llegando a agrupar más de 120 niñas e, inclusive, tener banda musical formada por las propias niñas.

      En el aspecto deportivo de ese año destaca el campeonato logrado por la categoría Peewee teniendo una temporada arrolladora y terminando invictos la temporada, recibiendo tan solo en contra la cantidad de 6 puntos y logrando el derecho de representar a México y a la Liga Pop Warner en un juego internacional que se realizó en el condado de San Dimas, perteneciente a Los Ángeles, California E.U.A. Dicho juego se celebró en contra del equipo "Vikings" de La Verne- San Dimas, quienes ostentaban el título de campeones estatales (California) de la Liga Pop Warner de E.U.A., correspondiéndole el triunfo a los nuestros por marcador de 20-19 y recibiéndo amplia difusión por parte de los medios de comunicación locales, convirtiéndose así en el primer equipo mexicano infantil de lograr un triunfo en el extranjero, cabe decir que a la postre dicha generación fue la vanguardia o punta de lanza para el lanzamiento de las categorías Juveniles e Intermedia de PUMITAS, A.C. y manteniéndose sin derrota desde este entonces y hasta la categoría Intermedia en donde disputándose la final con el equipo de los Gamos del C.U.M. pierde lo invicto.

      En 1974 y teniéndo como base la generación del 70, PUMITAS, A.C. hace su aparición en la categoría Juvenil "A", participando en la Liga de Colegios Particulares, logrando el campeonato, mismo que refrendó en dicha categoría por dos años consecutivos mas, esto es, en 1975 y 1976, año en que PUMITAS, A.C. deja de participar en dicha Liga para enrolarse en la recién creada CONA (Conferencia Nacional de Futbol Americano).

      Es en este año y por motivo de la creación de las categorías Juveniles que PUMITAS, A.C. adopta como emblema representativo de las categorías grandes la Garra de un puma (vista de perfil), adoptando también como mote para los grandes el de la "Garra Dorada", emblema y mote que hasta la fecha identifican a PUMITAS, A.C.

      En el año de 1975, PUMITAS, A.C. incursiona en la categoría Juvenil "AA", logrando nuevamente el campeonato teniendo como rival a sus acérrimos enemigos desde infantiles, los Gamos del C.U.M.

      Es en 1977 que PUMITAS, A.C. da a luz su primer equipo en categoría Intermedia, siempre teniendo como base la generación del 70, jugando ahora en la C.O.N.A., apuntando por último que dicha generación sumada a sus acérrimos rivales los Gamos del C.U.M., pero ahora en el equipo Cóndores de la U.N.A.M. lograron diversos campeonatos de esta escuadra en la Liga Mayor de nuestro país.

      PUMITAS, A.C. manteniendo dicha tradición hasta la fecha ha logrado destacadas intervenciones en sus 23 años de participación en la categoría Intermedia, tales como llegar por 4 veces consecutivas a la final en los años de 1985, 1986, 1987 y 1988; ha tenido en esta categoría un historial de Campeones en 1985 y 1987, Subcampeones en 1977, 1978, 1986, 1988 y 1992, Tercer lugar y semifinalista en 1979, 1994 y 1999.

      Es en 1980 que PUMITAS, A.C. se traslada y asienta sus reales en Xochimilco, campo en el que reitera el ser un equipo del sur y continúa con su tradición de formación de excelentes jugadores en forma ininterrumpida.

      En el año de 1985, PUMITAS, A.C. abandona en las categorías infantiles la Liga Pop Warner y como organización fundadora se apresta a tomar parte en la C.O.N.F.A.C.I. (Conferencia Nacional de Futbol Americano Categoría Infantil., liga en la que hasta la fecha participa, logrando el campeonato en la categoría Junior Midget; generación que con posterioridad disputaría en categoría Intermedia la

      Final de 1992 y semifinal de 1994, es en este año de 1985 que en categoría Intermedia se logra el primer campeonato para PUMITAS, A.C.

      En 1986, PUMITAS, A.C. logra en infantil obtener el campeonato de la categoría Midget y el subcampeonato en la categoría Intermedia, llegando por segunda vez consecutiva a la Final.

      Es en  1987 que PUMITAS, A.C. logra en la categoría Juvenil "A" el campeonato, así como en la categoría Intermedia, llegando a la Final por tercera vez consecutiva.

      En 1988 destaca para PUMITAS, A.C. en infantiles el campeonato de grupo de la categoría Bantam y subcampeonato de la Liga, teniendo como base la generación del 85.

      Es en 1989 que en infantiles, la categoría Bantam de PUMITAS, A.C. logra el campeonato, teniendo como base a parte de la generación del 85.

      En 1990, PUMITAS, A.C. logra el campeonato en la categoría Juvenil "A".

      En 1992, PUMITAS, A.C. obtiene en categoría Intermedia el subcampeonato, lográndolo con su primer año en dicha categoría de la generación del 85.

      Es en 1994 que PUMITAS, A.C. logra en categoría Intermedia el ser Tercer lugar y semifinalista.

      En el año de 1995, PUMITAS, A.C. se traslada al campo que actualmente ocupa en el Nuevo Parque Ecológico de Xochimilco.

      Del año de 1996, destacan los tres campeonatos logrados en las infantiles por las categorías Midget, Junior Bantam y Bantam, así como el subcampeonato de la categoría Peewee.

      En 1997, en las infantiles de PUMITAS, A.C. se consiguen los campeonatos de Junior Midget y Junior Bantam.

      En 1999, destacan para PUMITAS, A.C. el subcampeonato de la categoría Junior Bantam y el Tercer lugar de Junior Midget, así como el Tercer lugar y semifinalista de la categoría Intermedia.

      En el año 2000, Pumitas, A.C. participa con su Categoría Intermedia en la Liga FADEMAC, con la categoría de Juvenil “A” en la CONAJUVE y como ya es una costumbre desde su ingreso en la Infantil de CONFACI, con sus siete categorías: TINY TOT, JUNIOR PEEWEE, PEEWEE, JUNIOR MIDGET, MIDGET, JUNIOR BANTAM Y BANTAM. Con la Juvenil “AA” en la CONAJUVE, Preinfantil en sus tres categorías: “A”, “AA” y “AAA” en la CONFACI y finalmente con sus equipos de FEMENIL JUVENIL Y JUVENIL MAYOR.  Cabe Destacar que en este año los logros más sobresalientes son: en Infantil, la categoría de TINY TOT disputa la final de la misma quedando en el segundo lugar,  en la categoría de MIDGET sucede lo mismo y se logra el CAMPEONATO su FEMENIL JUVENIL.

      En el año de 2001, PUMITAS, A.C. consigue el CAMPEONATO  en la categoría JUNIOR PEEWEE en la Liga CONFACI, el Subcampeonato en la JUNIOR BANTAM Y terceros lugares en la JUNIOR MIDGET, MIDGET Y BANTAM, todo lo anterior en la CONFERENCIA DE LOS SEIS GRANDES DE LA CONFACI. Además tiene una temporada ganadora y muy lucida en las tres categorías de PREINFANTIL.

      En el año de 2002 se consiguen los campeonatos en categoría Infantil : en la categorías de Peewee, derrotando a domicilio a los carneros de Guadalajara, y en  Jr. Midget donde en tiempos extras en Pumitas se derrota a los Huracanes de Coayoacán, así mismo la categoría juvenil cumple con un destacado papel, quedando eliminado en la instancia de semifinales. Así como los subcampeonatos en  Bantam  y  Junior  Bantam.

      Para el año 2003 en las categorías infantiles se obtiene el campeonato en la categoría Junior Midget, el subcampeonato en Midget, y en la categoría juvenil A y juvenil AA se obtienen los CAMPEONATOS, así mismo resurge este equipo de la Garra Dorada  en la categoría Intermedia, quedándose a un paso de arribar a semifinales.

      En el año de 2004 se logra el bicampeonato en la categoría Juvenil “A” y Juvenil “AA” de manera consecutiva, sin embargo es un mal año para la categoría Intermedia, en infantil se logra el campeonato en Jr. Midget y en Tiny Tot además se logra con Carrera Tennessee.

      Es importante mencionar que esta Organización ha sido por siempre un promotor incansable del Futbol Americano Infantil y para muestra está que en los últimos diez años ha parado a los tres equipos de categoría preinfantil.

"Convencidos de que no hay deporte como el Futbol Americano para que nuestros hijos aprendan desde pequeños lo importante que es la preparación adecuada, el espíritu constante de superación, el trabajar en conjunto, el respeto a sus compañeros y coaches, y sobre todo, sentir cariño por algo por que pelear".

        Esto es PUMITAS, A.C., una actividad creada esencialmente por y para los niños y jóvenes, en la que los mayores hemos encontrado un maravilloso medio de comunicación con nuestros hijos y hemos podido desarrollar una serie de actividades reforzantes y de apoyo de aquellas en beneficio de un grupo, cada vez mayor de niños y niñas de todas las edades que se merecen el mayor de nuestros respetos

It was a late but nonetheless busy weekend for young soccer players in Lower, Upper and West Pottsgrove PA townships, as the Pottsgrove Soccer Club got its fall season under way today. Tropical Storm Hanna soaked the fields and limited play Saturday at 31-acre Gerald Richards Park on Buchert Road in Sanatoga. But hundreds of youths and their parents, other relatives and friends crowded onto fields this afternoon to participate in or watch the action. (See video above).

Casual clothing, lawn chairs, and oversize bottles of sports drink were the order of the day. Temperatures reached into the high 70s and low 80s by 2 p.m., accompanied by a light, 6-miles-per-hour breeze from the west. The sun was bright, skies were nearly cloudless, and fans were loud in cheering on PeeWee teams (age 4 and older) as they gave their all.

Who won? Everybody.

Well we survived the two days of the Dowerin Field Days. Shaking hands, talking to people and selling a couple of quad bikes for Danny at Machinery Warehouse in Midland, really takes it out of you. But we had a good time and I think it was good for us to finally get out and start to promote ourselves. We met a lot of people who were really keen to come.

Also you will notice, (especially if you're reading this), that our new website is up. Its still a bit sparse, but I'm sure we'll manage to fill it with content over the following weeks. It can be found at www.westmotopark.com.au, if you stubbled accross my blog some other way.

My posts have been getting further apart lately, as the work load creating the park has been increasing. Last weekend was spent carting gravel for the Pro Two Wheel Track. About half of the dirt we need is in place, the rest should be done this week. Then we'll get into grooming it. Thanks to Josh Herbert for offering to come and have look and offer his opinion on the design.

This weekend Steve is off to Yorkrakine to hang out in 'Paradise'.  He'll be going to catch up with a few people at Ray Reids annual ride day. Say hello if you see him and I'm sure he'll have a few stickers to hand around.

Most people under estimate just how much dirt goes into building a motocross track. The Junior Two Wheel Track is mostly complete, some rain to compact the jumps would be good. We're moving on to the quad bike area, as we've had a lot of interest from those guys. I'm keen to get that finished so I can start on the Pro Two Wheel Track, cos I'm really a two wheel guy. Our official website will be up shortly, giving you a much better look at the tracks, and a way to contact us for info and make bookings. So for now I'll keep you up to date with my blog. Jack is the master of sports concentration. You know he's concentrating when he's sticking his tongue out. He's always sticking his tongue out.

Andrew is fast. Very fast. He can outrun any other four year old, I'm sure of it. So I slowed down the shutter speed and panned with him while he was running to try to capture the motion. I like how this one turned out.

Nun kurz zum Rahmen der ganzen Geschichte: jeder Autor kannte nur das Kapitel, das vor ihm geschrieben wurde. Für den Schreibprozess gab es ein paar Vorgaben, u. a. den Lehrer Albert Zecher, den durch die Altstadt fließenden Fluss, die Umsetzung des Satzes "...und er zog den Gürtel etwas enger...". So weit, so gut!

Wie erwartet, ergaben sich daraus natürlich etliche Handlungsstränge und es war auch nicht vermeidbar, dass Albert Zecher mehrmals starb und wieder auferstand, vorher nicht einschlief und trotzdem aufwachte. Auch blieben einige spannende Fragen offen. Was hatte es eigentlich mit Kathi Berg auf sich? Und was ist mit Fridolin alias Frolic und seiner geerbten Litfasssäule passiert? Wie dem auch sei, mit ein wenig Phantasie war der ganze Abend ein voller und vor allem humorvoller Erfolg.

Nun an dieser Stelle mein Beitrag, Kapitel 3.

„Ja, hallo, mit wem habe ich denn das Vergnügen?“, fragte diese Stimme ihn.

Fridolin war erstarrt. Diese nebulöse Stimme ließ ihn plötzlich vergessen, weshalb er die Nummer dieser Frau überhaupt gewählt hatte. Nichts war mehr, wie es einmal schien. Sein Blick prallte auf das kristallene Wasser des Flusses, der ihm zum ersten Mal in seinem Leben nichts zu sagen hatte. Schon von klein auf begleitete ihn dieser Fluss, der immer schon mehr von ihm gewusst hatte als Fridolin jemals über ihn hätte verstehen können. Er ging stets auf der einen Seite des Ufers an den alten, größtenteils nicht mehr betriebenen Handwerksstuben ab und wechselte in der Altstadt, indem er eine der vielen kleinen, mittelalterlichen Brücken überquerte, die Seite, um am anderen Ufer wieder in verlorenen Gedanken hinauf zu schlendern. In Hoffnung auf … Heute gab der Fluss ihm keine Antwort. Auf all die Fragen, die gerade in ihm aufkamen. Weder Aufklärung noch Verklärung. Nichts als Stille. Nur sein stillstehender Atem und die Frage dieser Kathi, auf die er keine Antwort parat hatte.

Ja, mit wem hatte sie das Vergnügen? Fridolin Zecher war sein Name. Ja, es war sein Name gewesen. Bis vor kurzem. Doch auch dies, so dachte er gerade, hatte scheinbar keinen Bestand mehr. Zumindest war ihm jegliche Sicherheit genommen worden. Wodurch? Etwa durch den Tod seines Großonkels Albert? Gerade hatte er diesen und sein Vermächtnis noch belächelt. Und jetzt? So sehr er sich auch mühte, diesen Tod als Grund für diese Leere, die sich nun plötzlich in ihm eingenistet hatte, anzusehen, spürte er eines doch immer klarer hervorscheinen. Dieser Tod kann es nicht gewesen sein. Zumindest nicht direkt. Was war es dann, das ihn aus seiner Welt herausgeschmissen hatte? In eine andere, die ihn so unverhofft in den Würgegriff genommen hatte, dass er ihr Gesicht hinter sich nicht erkennen konnte.
Das Gefühl, das ihn packte, war so bedrohlich, dass er kein Wort mehr auszusprechen vermochte. Auch er hatte dieser Welt nichts zu sagen. Ja, er konnte ihr nichts sagen, so sehr er sich auch bemühte. Worte, diese sonst so einfachen Gebilde, die aus seinem Mund nur so sprudelten, fehlten ihm nun vollends. Nichts war mehr so, wie es einmal gewesen zu sein schien. Obdachlos, ja, so dachte er sich, das war er.

„Entschuldigen Sie, sind Sie noch am Apparat?“, hörte er es schallen.
Nein, Fridolin stand auf der Leitung. Nach einer gefühlten Ewigkeit hatte er immer noch kein Wort herausbekommen.

Er hatte eine alte Litfasssäule geerbt. Nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Es war keine Tragödie, aber so recht verstanden hatte er nicht wirklich etwas. Er, der bis dahin ein stinknormales Leben gelebt hatte. Hatte geheiratet. Griseldis, eine Frau, die er zwar nicht immer verstand, aber mit gutem Verstand zu schätzen wusste. Hatte Kinder gezeugt. Zwei Söhne, von denen einer – Peter – misslang und der andere – Jens – sich noch bewähren musste. Doch sie haben die beiden großgezogen, so gut sie konnten. Hatten ein Haus gebaut, einen Baum gepflanzt… Nein, er hatte sich nichts vorzuwerfen. Er hatte alles getan, was ein Mann hätte tun können. Und wahrscheinlich noch einiges mehr. Seine Familie musste nicht Hunger leiden, denn der Schuhladen, den er nach der Lehre von seinem Vater übernommen hatte, war seit Jahren weit über die Stadt hinaus bekannt und auch sonst viel ihm nichts ein, was er hätte anders gemacht haben können. Normaler hätte sein Leben nicht verlaufen können. Sogar in die Kirche sind sie zu Ostern und zu Weihnachten mit den Kindern gegangen. Und, dass Andere schlecht über sie reden würden, nein, das ist ihm noch nie zu Ohren gekommen. Ja, sie waren gute Bürger und bemühten sich mit all ihrer Macht die Räder der Welt am Laufen zu halten. Sein Erfolg schien ihn zu bestätigen.

Doch tief in ihm brodelte es. Irgendetwas hatte sich verändert. Die Geradlinigkeit seines ganzen Lebens war von einem auf den anderen Moment verloren gegangen. Alles hätte so schön weiter gehen können.

Doch nun war da diese seltsame Litfasssäule dieses Alberts, der scheinbar nicht nur aus Zufall den gleichen Namen trug wie er. Dazu noch Hohenwulsch, das Niemandsland, wo dieses – scheinbar alle finanziellen Sorgen auflösende – Erbe auf ihn wartete. Und, als ob das nicht schon genug wäre, auch noch diese Kathi Berg, mit der er gerade telefonierte. Oder auch nicht. Was hatte es mit alldem auf sich? Hätte der Notar, von dem er diese scheinbar so frohe Botschaft erhalten hatte, nur das Geheimnis um das Erbe gelüftet. Ja, so langsam dämmerte es ihm, nicht der Tod, sondern vielmehr diese Ansammlung von schicksalhaften Zufällen ließ ihn verstummen. Das erste Mal überhaupt.

Allmählich wunderte er sich, weshalb diese Frau immer noch den Hörer nicht aufgelegt hatte. Es schien mittlerweile ein ganzes Leben im Spiegel des Flusses an ihm vorübergegangen zu sein.

Sie war die Kontaktperson. In Hohenwulsch. Irgendwo im Nirgendwo. Blieb sie vielleicht nur am Hörer dran, weil sie es erahnte oder gar wusste, dass er es war? Plötzlich fühlte er sich völlig nackt. Alle Gedanken, die ihm durch den Kopf geschwirrt waren, so halluzinierte er, habe diese Frau aus ihm herausgehört. Ohne dass er auch nur ein Wort gesprochen hätte. Er spürte wie er in seiner sonst so engen Hose unterging. Demonstrativ zog er, um sich und vor allem dieser Frau zu beweisen, dass er nicht untergehen würde, seinen Gürtel etwas fester.
Den plötzlichen Halt wieder gewonnen, bemerkte er, dass er, seitdem er ihre wunderschöne Stimme gehört hatte, keinen Schritt nach vorne getan hatte.
„Hören Sie?“, strahlte es abermals wie aus dem Nichts.
Und plötzlich kam es in ihm hoch. Er kam langsam wieder zu sich und merkte, wie diese Stimme ihn verzaubert und sein ganzes vorheriges Leben entzaubert hatte. Er musste nach Hohenwulsch. Sein Erbe antreten und diese Frau sehen.
Doch zunächst musste er erst einmal Worte finden.

New Wifi Friend

My newest wifi buddy is Alex from Dorvan.

Recent Wifi Experiences

Two weekends ago, I caught up on wifi. First, I went to Yuki's town. Then, I had to shut down so that I could eat my lunch. When I came back, she came over to my town. I added Alex from Dorvan so that he could come visit too. We had a nice time. ^^ Next, I went over to Dorvan, while Yuki logged off. That was a very nice town, full with hybrids. The next day, I wifi-ed with my friend Danny from ACC. We are one year apart, and both enjoy being crazy. ^^ So, he came over to my town, and we quickly looked at recent changes.

That's all for now!

Like I said everything else is working out well. We will be meeting with the shire soon to discuss a few things, like septic system requirements and the kiosk design, so they will meet Health Department regulations properly. All in all a very satisfying couple of weeks. I'll keep you posted.In the mean time, Stay Safe and Stay Dirty.

Tonight was the first playoff game for my 11 year old son's hockey team.  Before the night was over, my blood pressure was pushing the envelope and I needed throat soothing lozenges.  I'm an involved hockey mum (that's Canadian, eh) who cheers at her sons' games... but if you want to see me get a knot in my shorts, sign up to be another blind ref at our arena.  Read: we don't need any more, thankyouverymuch.  Sweet Jesus was needed for another healing of the blind man.  Seriously.

My bright, skillful boy scored on a breakaway, lifting the puck, hitting the back post of the net and it popped right back out.... but the refs didn't see it.  We jumped from our seats howling, with victory hands in the air.... then......wondered why the game continued to be played.  I'm not making this up.  There were fans for the other team trying to console me by letting me know that it was indeed the invisible goal.  THEN, my extremely talented son unselfishly passed to a teammate in front of the net and the other kid tapped the puck in.  We jumped from our seats howling, with victory hands in the air.  However, the goalie covered the puck on the ice with his glove, and brought the puck back out after it was over the goal line.  I almost popped a blood vessel.  Say it isn't so.  Say it isn't so.

At games I don't scream and yell.  O.K., that was a falsehood.  Allow me to extrapolate.  I yell, "Shoot!" ...often, ...always at the top of my lungs.  When my athletic, brilliant boy has a breakaway, I yell, "Come on, baby. Come on, baby," rapidly.... and repeatedly.  What I meant was: I don't scream at the refs.  I'm trying to be a good example.

Crack me up tonight, a fellow teammate's mom was sailing lines over the boards to the refs that could be dialogue for another Slap Shot movie.... minus the rough language.  They were priceless.  Who needs to pay sitcom writers when they could go to PeeWee league hockey games and get material worthy of an award.  She yelled, "We're having eye exams out in the lobby for all the refs before the final game."  :o)   And, "Just when I thought I knew the rules, you guys start messin' with my mind.  I get icing.  I get offsides.  But I thought when the puck went in... we scored???"   I needed the laugh, to say the least.  My favorite was, "How much are they paying you?  We'll double it!  Pass the hat!"

Final score on the scoreboard:  Them- 2; Us- 1.  REAL score in all the fans' minds:  Them- 2; Us- 3.

Enough said.  (Goodness sakes.  It's going to take me a few hours to settle down and get to sleep tonight.)

I was watching a news report the other about a hockey player from Barrie, Ontario named Adam Zussino, who got suspended (unofficially) after he dyed his hair blue. The reason: he wanted to have that type of haird dyed blue because his team are heading towards the playoff games. The school that he attended is St. Catherine of Siena catholic school in Barrie. The school officials told him that "hair colour is a concern to parents because there are a lot of different styles related to gangs." The school officials meanwhile have to take the issue seriously. The dress code from that particular school states that, "Students shall not have extreme colours and styles related to certain subcultures ... not in keeping with Christian values."

There was some mixed reaction to this news, a fellow student at another catholic school told his teacher that he liked the new style. Don Cherry, known for his commentaries on CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada" on the Coach's Corner segment decided to get on board for support for Adam Zussino. Now he is seeing red on how the people treat Adam. This is what he quoted in an interview: "I have heard of political correctness but this is nuts, I mean what the heck is wrong with blue hair?The principal is obviously not a hockey player, This is ridiculous. What's wrong with dying your hair for the playoffs? All the junior kids do that, and so do some in the NHL. It shows team spirit."

On second note, the school has decided to give Adam Zussino a "grace period" - providing if he should dye his hair brown or blond or even black. The family is trying to work out a deal with the school. I guess he (Adam) should follow the treatment that Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench did (see picture below).

NEW YORK - Don Imus' racist remarks got him fired by CBS on Thursday, the finale to a stunning fall for one of the nation's most prominent broadcasters.

Imus was initially suspended for two weeks after he called the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" on the air last week. But outrage kept growing and advertisers kept bolting from his CBS radio show and its MSNBC simulcast, which was canceled Wednesday.

"There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society," CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in announcing the decision. "That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision."

Imus, 66, had a long history of inflammatory remarks. But something struck a raw nerve when he targeted the Rutgers team — which includes a class valedictorian, a future lawyer and a musical prodigy — after they lost in the NCAA championship game.

A spokeswoman for the team said it did not have an immediate comment on Imus' firing. But Imus was scheduled to meet with the team Thursday evening at the governor's mansion in Princeton, N.J., and the team was seen entering the mansion.

He was fired in the middle of a two-day radio fundraiser for children's charities. CBS announced that Imus' wife, Deirdre, and his longtime newsman, Charles McCord, will host Friday's show.

The cantankerous Imus, once named one of the 25 Most Influential People in America by Time magazine and a member of the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame, was one of radio's original shock jocks. His career took flight in the 1970s and with a cocaine- and vodka-fueled outrageous humor. After sobering up, he settled into a mix of highbrow talk about politics and culture, with locker room humor sprinkled in.

He issued repeated apologies as protests intensified. But it wasn't enough as everyone from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) to Oprah Winfrey joined the criticism.

The Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson met with Moonves on Thursday to demand Imus' removal.

Jackson called the firing "a victory for public decency. No one should use the public airwaves to transmit racial or sexual degradation."

Said Sharpton: "He says he wants to be forgiven. I hope he continues in that process. But we cannot afford a precedent established that the airways can commercialize and mainstream sexism and racism."

In a memo to staff members, Moonves said the firing "is about a lot more than Imus."

"He has flourished in a culture that permits a certain level of objectionable expression that hurts and demeans a wide range of people," Moonves said. "In taking him off the air, I believe we take an important and necessary step not just in solving a unique problem, but in changing that culture, which extends far beyond the walls of our company."

It's also likely to trigger a wider debate about expression and forgiveness. Some of Imus' fans have pointed to inflammatory statements made by Sharpton and Jackson in the past, or in the lyrics of popular music.

Losing Imus will be a financial hit to CBS Radio, which also suffered when Howard Stern departed for satellite radio. The program earns about $15 million in annual revenue for CBS, which owns Imus' home radio station WFAN-AM and manages Westwood One, the company that syndicates the show nationally. One potential replacement: the sports show "Mike & the Mad Dog," which airs afternoons on WFAN.

The radiothon had raised more than $1.3 million Thursday before Imus learned that he had lost his job. The annual event has raised more than $40 million since 1990.

"This may be our last radiothon, so we need to raise about $100 million," Imus cracked at the start of the event.

Volunteers were getting about 200 more pledges per hour than they did last year, with most callers expressing support for Imus, said phone bank supervisor Tony Gonzalez. The event benefited Tomorrows Children's Fund, the CJ Foundation for SIDS and the Imus Ranch.

Imus, whose suspension was supposed to start next week, was in the awkward situation of broadcasting Thursday's radio program from the MSNBC studios in New Jersey, even though NBC News said the night before that MSNBC would no longer simulcast his program on television.

He didn't attack MSNBC (a unit of NBC Universal, owned by General Electric Co.) for its decision — "I understand the pressure they were under," he said — but complained the network was doing some unethical things during the broadcast. He didn't elaborate.

Sponsors that pulled out of Imus' show included American Express Co., Sprint Nextel Corp., Staples Inc., Procter & Gamble Co. and General Motors Corp. Imus made a point Thursday to thank one sponsor, Bigelow Tea, for sticking by him.

The list of his potential guests began to shrink, too.

Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham said the magazine's staffers would no longer appear on Imus' show. Meacham, Jonathan Alter, Evan Thomas, Howard Fineman and Michael Isikoff from Newsweek have been frequent guests.

Imus has complained bitterly about a lack of support from one black politician, Harold Ford Jr., even though he strongly backed Ford's campaign for Senate in Tennessee last year. Ford, now head of the Democratic Leadership Council, said Thursday he'll leave it to others to decide Imus' future.

"I don't want to be viewed as piling on right now because Don Imus is a good friend and a decent man," Ford said. "However, he did a reprehensible thing."

Imus' troubles have also affected his wife, whose book "Green This!" came out this week. Her promotional tour has been called off "because of the enormous pressure that Deirdre and her family are under," said Simon & Schuster publicist Victoria Meyer.

People are buying it, though: An original printing of 45,000 was increased to 55,000.

Imus still has a lot of support among radio managers across the country, many of whom grew up listening to him, said Tom Taylor, editor of the trade publication Inside Radio.

Rutgers' team, meanwhile, appeared Thursday on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" with their coach, C. Vivian Stringer.

At the end of their appearance, Winfrey said: "I want to borrow a line from Maya Angelou, who is a personal mentor of mine and I know you all also feel the same way about her. And she has said this many times, and I say this to you, on behalf of myself and every woman that I know, you make me proud to spell my name W-O-M-A-N."

From the colours, the furniture, the decorations, the symbols - his house is messed up! It surprises me how we [my generation] watched this on TV back in the days and now it plays on Adult Swim and it is rated for a mature audience only. It tells you something, no? Or we were just a bit more laid back about appropriate TV material then. Society, the media and its influences have changed immensely since I was 4 years old, but I knew even then, that Pee Wee's playhouse was messed up. Everyone screaming, the noises, the colours, Pee Wee's voice and the acting drives me nuts! On the contrary, I can definitely see people talking about how he allowed or encouraged children's imagination and fantasies to expand with that radical show. Uh huh, yeah.
