Proving that MetaRAM technology can work with DDR3 memory too, Hynix is at IDF demonstrating its next-gen R-DIMMs, including 8 and 16GB 2-rank DDR3 modules. Codenamed HMT31GR7AER4C-GC and HMT32GR7AER4C-GD, the fresh 8 and 16GB DIMMs can triple DDR3 memory capacity in servers and workstations and will enable the world's highest memory capacity per channel.
"As a leader in DRAM technology, Hynix is pleased to be working with MetaRAM and Intel to successfully develop the world’s first 16GB DDR3 module," said Mr. J.B. Kim, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Hynix Semiconductor. "With this product introduction we expect to see growth in high performance, high density applications."
Hynix has previously used MetaRAM to manufacture 8GB DDR2 R-DIMMs.

I'm looking forward to times when my mainboard will have 4x16GB Modules instead of the my current 4x1GB DDR2 DIMMs :)

But I fear it will take some time until those DIMMs will be affordable.

Antivirus XP 2008 is a new rogue anti-spyware program that is advertised through Trojans and other malware. It is advertised in the form of fake security alerts and warnings on web sites that state you are infected with malware or are being attacked in some manner. When you click on these ads, it will automatically download the installer for Antivirus XP 2008 and install it on your machine. In some cases, this program is installed without any intervention at all from you.

So turn out the antivirus itself is not a trojan? I decided to remove it with the most conventional way, system restore. That's right. If you read some guides, you'll find most of them recommend malware remover or things like that, which I'll gladly try if my way failed since I can't stand having a weird program in my system. Oh btw, if you just want to get rid of the wallpaper, you can do it manually by selecting the picture and set it as desktop background, but why do that if you can remove the whole thing??

Okay, back to the system restore. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. That's what I did, I use Windows XP by the way. And then pick one of the date and restore point, close all your windows, click next, and the rest is self-explanatory. The PC reboot and when it came back, whoosh the Antivirus XP 2008 disappeared. Whew, I'm so happy. So far nothing happened after that so looks like it worked, but I'm still watching my PC. So yeah the message is "DON'T PANIC!" lol

I'm still quiet satisfied with my E-PC but yesterday I just wanted to try something new. So I installed Mac OS 10.4 Tiger yesterday. (I know this has been done many times before but it's still cool somehow ^^ )

First of all, this are the things you need:

• Asus Eee ;)
• External DVD-Drive (or like me a old ordinary DVD drive with an USB adapter)
• Uphuck 10.4.9 version 1.3 ISO + an empty DVD-ROM
• something to bridge pins 6 and 12 on the Eee's VGA port like that:

and optional:

• Dell 1390 Mini PCI Express WiFi Card (for WiFi functionality, atm I don't have one cause it was just a first try)
• Apple USB Ethernet adapter (for Ethernet functionality)
• Nida to prevent you from kernel-panics with her BFG ^_^ ( Why do I prefer her non-damaged uniform? )
• and in my case an external USB hard drive to backup your current OS

First of all I saved a backup of my Nlited Win XP Hikky-Edition with Acronis Disk Director.

After a reboot and inserting the Uphuck 10.4.9 DVD, and pressing return when prompted,  Darwin should load the OS X Setup, this may take a few minutes...

First you have to choose your language. Against Saber-chans will I have chosen German.

After that go to the utilities menu and select Disk Utility (=Festplattendienstprogramm)  from the drop down menu. On the left side you should see the Siliconimage SSD.

Select the "Partition" tab and drop down the "Volume Scheme" from "Current" to "1 Partition". Then click "Options" and select "Master Boot Record" from the tree options. Press OK and select "Mac OS Extended" as format. Name your drive as you wish and press "Partition". After a few seconds your SSD is now formatted and ready for OS X.

Close the Disk Utility and press "Continue" until you see this screen:

Select the following things:

• Select "10.4.9 Intel"
• Under "Kernel", select "Intel SSE2" (Dated 1st April 2007)
• Under "Patches" select "IOATAFamily.kext 10.4.8"
• Under "Patches" select "loginwindow" (From 10.4.4)
• Under "Patches" select "Remove CPUPowerManagement.kext"
• Under "Patches" select "Remove Thermal Kexts"
• Under "Drivers" open "VGA Drivers" and expand "Intel", select "GMA 900" only.
• Under "Drivers" select "Azalia Audio"
• Under "Drivers" select "PowerManagement.bundle"
• Under "Drivers" select "Intel SpeedStep"

Press "Install"  after that. OS X Setup scans your Setup-DVD for errors now, you can skip this if you would like to save time.

It didn't take as long as I expected. Before you press "Reboot", disconnect the external USB DVD drive. The Eee should now reboot and you should see and hear the Tiger-introvideo.

Now you have to go trough the final settings for OS X. The Eee's resolution is not detected correctly at this point so you have to navigate with the keyboard:

Select your country.
Tab, Tab, Space.
Do not migrate your data (We can't do this anyway).
Tab, Tab, Tab, Space.
Select your keyboard layout.
Tab, Tab, Tab, Space.
Now select your wireless network and password.
Tab, Tab, Tab, Tab, Space.
You will now be asked to enter your Apple ID.
Press and hold ALT and Q. (Equivalent of Cmd-Q). Then press Space.
Now Mac OS will ask you to set up your Account details.
From the last field (Password Hint) press Tab then Space.
Now you can take a snapshot of yourself.
Once done press Tab then Space.
Now select your time zone by clicking on the map.
Then press Space. (Note: Did not work for me, I closed the setup and entered this later in OS X).
Enter date and time details
Then press Space
We have reached the final setup screen, press Space.

Now OSX is ready to go and after adjusting a few things you can play around with it.

The performance is not that bad (Well, you don't need much power to run Leopard why should Tiger need a powerful PC ^^)

• You will see the start-up process, then a few details from the Systemprofiler. (Intel CPU, Intel Graphics-card (Quartz Extreme working), SSD, all USB ports and so on, and you will see that the Eee is not very busy @ idle (Activity-Monitor)
• After that I will show you if video and music, Dashboard and so on works
• Then I show  you a picture from my 8GB SDHC card (yeah the card-reader works too) to demonstrate that the minimization animation looks quiet smoothly.
• And finally I launch iChat for a quick webcam test and shutting down my Eee after that.

Gebruik je Gmail als standaard mailprogramma ? Zou het dan niet makkelijk zijn om al je toepassingen te koppelen aan je Gmail, zodat je niet steeds de link to moet kopiëren naar je gmail enz ...

Het programma slaat echter je gebruikersnaam en paswoord niet op, maar dat geef je dan gewoon even in en klaar is kees.

A few days ago I was discussing with a friend about the idea behind Valve's Orange Box - which is currently THE biggest bargain game-wise. The box itself reads 'Five Games in One Box' and retails for about £25 here in the UK for PC - it contains Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode One, Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal.

For the ones that are really bored, clicking on the 'Won Over 100 Awards' button will reveal some globally-accepted truths: Portal as the most original game with very witty copy. True, because otherwise it would have been just another puzzle game with an interesting concept but....that's all. Team Fortress 2 as the best multi-player experience and so and so on. Overall the Orange Box was voted great value for money. Even if you do not fancy all the games in it, whenever you're bored and you feel like picking up something gathering dust on a shelf, it will prove itself to be value for money. Plus it'd be a shame to buy them separately, even if they are indeed offered as stand-alone games. Hats off to Valve, they can please a customer.

The thing is though, yesterday I was browsing a GAME store in the city that had a 3 for £15 section and a 2 for £10 one I think - most of them old-ish (not to call them oldies) while others bargains or old games you'd like to rediscover or have always wanted to get but were too expensive. Things like Warcraft III, Diablo II, Call of Duty, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Unreal Tournament etc. and two guys were looking at various game sets. Both were intending to buy some 3 for £15 offers and already holding boxes with three to four games in them. Because as old as they are (the games), they are still value for money. Or should I say 'fun experience' value for money?

Either way, it should be some kind of incentive for game manufacturers judging from the success of the Orange Box - costly, yes, but in my work we talk a lot about being entertaining and interesting. Isn't that what we want from games too? The only question is if they or anyone else will be able to pull off the same trick and do it better at the same time. Because it's cool to be entertained for less money (not £50 for one game at least) and for any game or company that wants to brand itself 'as fun as it sounds' then this is it.

So obviously one of the graphic cards I was looking at was nVidia's 8800GTX (768MB) which retails at about £175 in the UK, the HDTV-output one being about £200 and not really suiting my purposes. The card isn't the shinier 9800 but I thought it'd be nice to compromise. Then had a fleeting thought, what if you can add a second one, have two of them since they're SLI ready?

Good thing I didn't when I realised not many games would actually benefit from the dual-card trick I was going to pull off...that and the 8800GTX alone eats about 390W, two of them being a real pain in the arse both from a cooling and PSU perspective. From some magazine I read and the benchmarking they did it turned out only in Call of Duty did the frame rate go up with about 70-80%. There's an extensive review over at VR-Zone and Cnet lets people know that they'll have to "beef up their power supplies in SLI mode". Yes it's a very expensive card but it'd be a shame to get the cheaper GTS (320/640MB versions) just because along with a card you'd probably have to buy a new PSU. With two even more so.

Last weekend our keyboard went out on us.  The left side just stopped working and that was that.   I need a PC at home, especially on the weekend, to do my bills, blog and read blogs over a hot cup of coffee while my family is all asleep.  So when I saw it went out on us I toldasked Mister to be a doll and go pick up a new one.  But because I've got tendinitis in my hands/wrists it has to be an ergonomic keyboard.  Those aren't cheap.

So like a good man he went down to Best Buy and got us a nice, pretty, keyboard with lots of buttons and a great curve on it!  I was a happy woman. 

This morning I sat at the PC while listening to Myspace music and applying my make up, like I've done a hundred times before.  I just got an email from my wonderful husband with a note to me:   P.S. Could you please not apply your make up over the new keyboard.

Is that right?  Oh now that HE paid for it he suddenly would like to make a conscience effort to take care of something in the house?  Ain't that a bitch?!   Apparently the keyboards I've bought from my company in the past didn't warrant the same request.   Humph,  go figure.  He's really lucky I stocked up on PMS pills last night.

Mai intai parola de la mail si dupa aia parola de pe WordPress... dar daca nu te poarta capul asta e.
