The NBA will head to Europe this week as several teams go across the Atlantic to have training camp and play some exhibition games.

It's a little surprising that the NBA has been doing this for four or five years and the best player ever from Europe has yet to make an appearance there.

Dirk Nowitzki has lobbied for it, and his native Germany would surely go crazy for him and the Mavs. But he also understands the politics involved. In this daily dose of Dirk he talks about the possibility of the Mavericks taking part in the initiative next year or beyond.

"I asked him (Mark Cuban) a couple years ago and it didn't look like we really had a shot so I wasn't going to annoy him with it,'' Nowitzki said. "But I have three more years here left and I'd love to do it one time, go over there and let my teammates see my country. We got a lot of basketball-crazy fans over there. I'm sure it would be sold out and a fun time. But I understand his point with the money and the preseason and the traveling. It's not always easy. But I think it would be a great experience for everybody.''

Any body notice lately how a certain MVP has seemingly taken a backseat? Well if you are an avid fan of basketball you would probably have a clue about who I am referring to. It's none other than Mr. Dirk "i can't handle pressure" Nowitzki. Being a fan of the Dallas Mavericks for the past six seasons , I have seen this player grow into a mega superstar in the NBA and I'm not using this word lightly. Last year seemed to be the year where everything was coming together and I as well as the millions of other Mavericks fans would finally be compensated for our loyalty. I mean, we were only TWO games out of tieing the nba record for most wins in a season (67-15), so what could go wrong? Lamentably, this dream was not realized as the Mavericks slumped to a 4-2 series loss to the upstarts from Golden State (coached by our former coach & GM, Don Nelson). This was of course riding behind the lacklustre play of Mr. Nowitzki himself, who of all times decided to go to sleep in that crucial series. Of course other factors were at fault as well, such as Avery Johnson's bad decision to not play a full squad in a near-end season match against the same Warriors who were battling for dear life to clinch a playoff berth. As everyone knows, we were disgraced and sent crashing out of the playoffs, my second time experiencing this in my 'tenure' as a fan. Now you're probably wondering where I'm going with this and why I won't just get over it? Well after that season of two tales I was expecting the Mavs to make trades and for the 'great one' to go back to Germany, use his anger to fuel his off-season training and come back this season better than ever before;come back with a vengence. However, what have I been subjected to? A Maverick squad FIFTH in the West, THIRD in the Southwest and 13-8. Now you're probably saying I'm just overreacting and that it's only the start of the season. But being a fan who likes and is used to seeing my team in the top 3 for the past 4 seasons, this start has me a bit shaken. Sure it's nothing like the 0-4 start we had last year, but most will remember that after that 0-4 start we went 40-4! Granted, maybe that's the reason we lost out in the first round, playing too hard in the season and being too tired to play an up-tempo team in a series. The concern I have really lies in how 'on & off' Nowitzki has been. Most would be shocked to know that he isn't even our leading scorer this season. In addition he has had only 2 30-point games in 21 matches. Yeah, sure, maybe I'm expecting too much but if we're not playing as well as last season you begin to look around for the reasons and to me a big reason is due to his play. Then again maybe he's just waiting for the right time. Maybe over the off-season and while playing for Germany he realized that he has to wait for the playoff run to get heated. Maybe he is wary of what happened last year and is conserving energy. Maybe he's distracted. Maybe he's been instructed by the mastermind Avery Johnson to 'cool' it for now and lull opponents into thinking he's lost his mojo or has passed it on to Josh. Maybe he just needs fans like myself to start bad-mouthing him for him to wake up. One can only speculate but in my mind it's very likely that this guy is in a major 'superstar' slump and we may just be witnessing the fall of a star! Who wants to bet on him being a contender for MVP this year? Certainly, not me.

First it is only the beginning of the season and as a fellow mav fan, i am disappointed that the Dirkanator is not performing, as i expected him to, but what we all need to realize is that Dirk's offense is still superb, and what i believe he and the Maverick administration is doing is giving him less shot opportunities, to take the scoring burden off of his shoulders and allow him to work on other parts of his game (eg, Post, passing, passing out of the double team, and maybe even defense), and allow other players to pick up the slack and improve (Devin Harris, JHO and even Bass). As seen in last year playoffs, when Mr, Dirk was "shut down", we had nobody to turn to as JHO scored only in the early moments of games and devin was never in a position to take the scoring burden. therefore everything was left for aging stackhouse and terry, who are streaky shooters.

So when you say he is not performing like a true MVP, i do agree, but what is the point of being mvp, if we may get knocked out in the first round again.

Yes mikhail, you do have a point and i will acknowledge the fact that there has been nice improvements in Devin Harris Jho and Bass is coming along nicely. I'm hoping you are right and they are really looking to improve on others to take the burden off his shoulders and as you said, it's pointless to have a mvp if the team is just going to get knocked out in the first round. Let's just hope this is a strategy by the coaching staff.

first of all your article is not factual... you stated that you started 0-4 last season, which is true, but then you go on to say that you went 40-4 which is absolutely ridiculous. In order to do that you would have had to win 40 games in a row. second of all the most wins a season is 72 games and, unless you can't count, that is FIVE games from tieing the NBA record for most wins in a season. so "diphoenix" please get your facts right first. Now I think that you are over reacting. We are approximately 21 games (on average) into the season and being 14-8 does not cause for concern or any panic whatsoever. I think all of you Mavericks fans were spoilt with a GREAT season that they had last year and as a result are expecting way too much out of dallas. They will still get to playoffs and they will still finish top 5, probably even to 3 in the west.
Now Dirk's numbers are still pretty good 21.1ppg 8.3rpg 3.8apg... and you would have to be silly to think that those numbers will not improve, however it won't be as impressive as last year or the year before because of the emergence of josh howard... who by the way is putting up career numbers. he is averaging more points, rebounds, and assists than he ever has in his career.
At any rate your team is more complete this year than they were last year with devin harris starting at point and howards's increased production. so "DiPhoenix" don't worry, not yet at least, there are around 60 games left and dirk will improve soon.

I must clear this up in an instant...when i said we went 40-4 i meant 40 wins and 4 losses which added to the first 4 losses of the season would give us a 40-8 record. secondly yes i was mistaken in saying two games out when it was actually five. I also see your point about Josh and Devin's increase productions and I can understand that Nowitzki may not be required to score as much. However I still believe that even if we were 'spoilt' last year, it's no reason not to want and expect the best of a team which as you said is more complete this year. Therefore I think that the Mavs should be doing better than they are currently. It is very ironic that Nowitzki scored a season high on the night I posted this (36 points)...maybe he's reading after all. Back to the point though, it is early yet and many games left to go but at this position we are battling with 5th,6th place teams and to me, that's unacceptable at any point during a season. Furthermore if we do finish below the top 4 then my concerns would be justified as that is completely disappointing especially after last season. Hence Dallas needs to yet again be in the top 3 of the west else that would indicate that the team is on a decline. I'm sure you want the team you're a fan of to do extremely well and if you are okay with your team not playing to their full potential then I would have to question your fanhood. If you are a TRUE fan and you realize the potential of your team then you SHOULD expect the best and not become 'okay' with the thought of them finishing and playing below par.

What is the greatest moment in Dallas Mavericks history? Well, it is pictured to the right.

When that moment happened 2 years ago, I thought the Mavs were on their way to winning a championship. Honestly, I thought that they would be contenders for a title for several years to come. For those of you non-sportsnuts like myself, Dirk made a 3-point play (See Ginoble's foul there?) to push Game 7 to OverTime and an eventual win going away on the Spurs homecourt.

Boy, how times change. They end up beating Phoenix that year in the conference championship series and then go up 2-0 in the Finals to Miami. Then, they choke it all away.

Then they fool us all again, winning 67 games in the regular season the next season and locking up the #1 overall seed in the playoffs. Then comes Golden State. Another huge embarrassing collapse.

I remember reading Jerry Stackhouse's quote at the beginning of this year. To paraphrase, "Either going to the finals was a fluke or getting knocked out in the first round was a fluke, this year we will find out". Well, I think he was right. We all found out.

Dirk said last week, "For me, personally, I feel like it's another wasted year". I feel exactly the same way as Dirk.

As a die-hard Mavs fan, I don't have a lot to put my hope in either. I think they do have some flexibility in their roster that might give them the ability to make a deal or two in the off-season. But, I am not sure I see anything that can put them back to an elite contender status right away. Maybe I am just a glass is half empty kind of guy, but I definitely need something big to happen to renew my excitement and get me out of this funk.

And, hiring Rick Carlisle is not exactly what I am talking about. I think he will be fine, but he doesn't make me excited again. I need to see something big. And, I just don't see what it could be. But, I hope that Cuban and Little Nellie can come up with something to renew my excitement in a team that had me so caught up in excitement this time two years ago that I could hardly stand it.

Please, Sports Gods, please make things right for the Mavs. They were the worst franchise in all of sports in the 90s and they got exactly zero #1 overall picks to show for it and only one in the top 3. Meanwhile, the Spurs got two #1 overall picks exactly ten years apart (David Robinson and Tim Duncan). They have 4 titles to show for that. Coincidence? I think not.

Which brings me back to the greatest moment in Mavs history. When that moment happened, I thought for sure, it wouldn't be their greatest moment for very long. Now, it really looks like I am going to have to wait awhile for something better. As a Mavs fan, I guess I should be getting good at waiting...

Game 5 of the first round series between the Mavericks and the Hornets tips off at 7pm on TNT. The Mavericks are facing elimination and its not a suprise due to the way they've played. There are some major concerns i'd like to point out that the Mavericks will have to change if they want to have any chance of coming back in this series.

First off, they've got to show more fire. Besides Dirk and Terry, nobody seems to be playing with passion and tenacity that we saw them play with during the 2006 playoff run. The only time we've seen that was game 3 which the Mavericks won at home. In order to try to steal this game tonight from New Orleans they're going to have to want it more to have any chance of winning. Every game they seem to come out with necessary passion to win , but as soon as the hornets make a run they lose all fire and will to fight. It's the NBA teams are going to make runs, especially in the playoffs . You can't expect to come out with fire, and control the entire game and limiting the other team to no scoring runs of bursts of energy and fire. They've got to be able to bounce back from those runs and make runs of there own to protect there lead. You can't just mail it in because the other team got on a little bit of a roll. Once you do that, the little roll becomes a double digit loss (Game 1 @ New Orleans, Game 4 @ Dallas).

My second point is the play of Josh Howard. Josh Howard is in my opinion the second most important part of this team. Dirk being the first. If they want to win tonight Josh Howard has to start hitting some shots. He's shooting 25 percent from the field and 12 percent from 3 point range this series. Thats not going to get it done. Howard is the guy they look for to score some points when Dirk isn't hitting his shot or the defense is throwing a lot of pressure at him. That's been a major problem this series. When Dirk's shot isn't going down the Mavericks have struggled mightily offensively leading to Hornets runs and eventually wins. If Howard hits his shots that opens up Nowitzki's game, gives the Hornets defense another much needed threat to worry about, as well as keeping the mavericks in the game during key stretches. If they want to win tonight Howard has to perform. Period.

Third, Jason Kidd. I've been saying since the beginning of the series that they should post jason kidd on chris paul. They've done that and one of two things has happened. Jason Kidd drew a foul on chris paul and/or scored, but then the Mavs failed to follow through and get the ball back to him. Or Kidd got into the lane, had an open layup attempt and passed the ball out to a contesed shooter. If the Mavs want to win Kidd has to be more agressive and take the point blank shots when he has them, and i believe he has to get more touches on the block against paul. This will wear out paul on defense, possibly get him in foul trouble as well as make kidd into a scoring option which he hasn't been all series.

Avery Johnson. Avery Johnson. Avery Johnson. I'm not an NBA coach, ive never played in the NBA, ive never won a ring or any of that. But i severely disagree with some of these moves and choices hes made. First off , i believe they gave the first two games away by trapping and doubleteaming paul. They were trapping paul with kidd and dampier most of the time. Two people who are not known for the quickness versus one of the quickest players in the league equals splitting the doubleteam and carving the defense apart. In addition to that even when the doubleteams and traps were succesful your forcing Paul to do what he does best which is pass the ball and get good looks for other players. Heres a stat for you first two games with trapping paul Tyson Chandler averaged 10 points and 13 board with 8 attempts two games since Chandler is averaging 4 shots with 3 points and 7 1/2 rebounds. And when they weren't trapping they had jason kidd playing him on defense? why would you do that for two straight games? thats giving chris paul the lane. I said at the beginning of the series that terry was the best option to guard him and hes proved to be, not stopping chris paul, but keeping him from playing like magic johnson. And now two coaching moves that i believe lost game 4 for the Mavs. First, JJ Barea being in the game in the second quarter with the mavericks up by 9 guarding Jannero Pargo, who just went off for 30 points last game. During the 1 minute 32 seconds that Barea was in the game Pargo hit a 3 and dished out 2 assists and was responsible for the 7 straight unanswered points by the Hornets to tie the game and shift the momentum. Barea had no buisness being in that game. Period. Then we move to the 3rd Quarter. The Mavericks open up with Dampier on West. So, in the first 3 minutes 15 seconds of the fourth the Hornets increase their lead to double digits due to West's 10 points and an assist to peja for 3 in that timeframe. From that point on the Mavericks never had control again. Oh, and i'd just like to add that once avery johnson did decide to take dampier off West, West only scored 2 points the whole rest of the game. So in essence, those two moves, both responsible for the run that tied the game for the hornets, as well as the run that gave the hornets a double digit lead essentially lost the mavericks the game.

And Last but not least, Jump shots. Too many. Way too many. When the Mavericks are at theyre best theyre driving, scoring buckets in the paint and getting to the free throw line(where they led the league in free throw percentage.) Game 3 Mavericks 38 freethrow attempts they win the game. Game 4 Mavericks 16 free throw attempts they lose the game. Stop falling in love with the jump shot. thats it.

Personally I believe the Mavericks can win game 5 in new orleans if they succesfully change these things ive mentioned. if they can get back home i believe its puts a lil bit of pressure to close out the series in dallas, if the mavs win that game in dallas. Well you all know.

No surprises in this one (if you read the Halftime Update). CP3 did what he had to do and finished the Mavs off in style. The Mavericks played good basketball, but you can't compete with the Hornets when they play like this. Chris Paul is just amazing. Running a NBA offense never looked so easy. He is making a name for himself this year.

Hornets

Paul: 32 points, 17 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals - against the Mavericks! Are you kidding me? He took 16 shots all game long and went to the free throw line 14 times and only missed twice. PER anyone?

West finished with 27 on 17 shots

Tyson Chandler threw some dunks down that you will definitely see in the Top 10 tomorrow

Stojakovic hit 5/7 from 3pt land and scored 22 points

Pargo did what he always does - instant offense from the bench

60.8 FG% & 55.6 3pt% - when you shoot like this, I don't care who you play against - you win

How are all the teams in the West feeling right now? Enjoying the fact that CP3 is only 22 years old and will torch you for the next 10-12 years? Great, isn't it?

Mavericks

Dirk finished with 27 points on 11 shots plus 12/15 FT - great effort, but not nearly enough tonight

However he did it, but Nowitzki got a whopping -27 on his +/- and this is the worst +/- stat tonight by far - something isn't right when he is on the court

The Mavs finished with 47.1 FG% and 50 3PT% - you don't get blown out often when you shoot like they did

They won the rebound war 38-31, but their 15 turnovers killed them...you shouldn't turn the ball over when Chris Paul is running the fast break

Great game (unless you are rooting for the Mavs). Absolutely MVP-worthy effort by Chris Paul.

Hi everybody and welcome to a quick halftime recap. The Hornets have a blowout in the making, but don't expect the Mavs to roll over and die. Hornets 67-51 Mavs. Here are some stats bullet-style (yes, thats how we roll):

Hornets

CP3 got a double-double already with 12 points and 10 assists...anyone still convinced that playoff experience is key to winning a playoff series? That's his second consecutive double-double and a nice foundation for great career playoff stats. UPDATE: Here is a link to a great TrueHoop post!

West scored 18 points and proved that there is a reason why they call him the "17-foot assassin"

Stojakovic is 3/4 from three point land

Chandler is dominating the defensive end with 3 blocks with a little help from Hilton Armstrong who got 2

61.5 FG% and 55.6 3pt% - good times

Mavericks

Dirk went to the charity stripe 10 times and has a time-high 16 points

The Mavs are shooting nearly 50% from the field and exactly 50% from 3, but all the turnovers are killing them

More fouls, more turnovers -> results in less assists

J-Ho is having a nice game with 10 points and 5 rebounds (game-high)

Shooting like this and still down by 16? Take better care of the ball and keep hustling. No way that the Hornets will shoot 60 FG% in the 2nd half...if they do, you can't stop them anyway.

Enjoy the second half and get ready for Spurs vs. Suns Game 2!

No! Just kidding. You are not "phat" America. I'm playing. I totally had you there for a second, didn't I? I'm sooo mean, right? Actually, I'm not. I am just practicing for April Fools tomorrow. That was an early present if you will. Want more? Well, the funny folks at comedy juggernauts CNN.com and CareerBuilder.com came up with a list of the ten greatest work-place pranks of this past year. And, I must admit, they are much funnier than Schindler's List.

So, how wild are you America's Workforce? Here now are some of the "best" you had to offer...

3. All the women in office individually spoke to the president, confiding that she is pregnant. By noon, he 'knew' that all of his female workers were pregnant and he could not tell anyone because each asked for confidentially.

That is, in fact, awful. There are about 10 women who work in my office and if even two of them were pregnant...lookout!

Though, this prank ranks up there with the rest of those, "really bro?" type of pranks. I mean, really bro, you fell for that? "Gee, honey, it was strange, all 12 of my female employees came into my office to tell me, in private, that they were ALL pregnant. Pretty weird, huh?"

Pretty stupid. I don't like this one, but maybe that's because I'm not an idiot. So take that into consideration.

How about this one?

4. Called electric company, used a co-worker's name and told them he was moving so the electricity got turned off at the co-worker's house.

Dick move bro. At least give me a heads-up so I can save the meatloaf.

5. Filled the vending soda machine with cans of beer.

Beer me!

Why I never heard anything sooo ....sooo....sooo...infuriating! Sometimes you just want a Diet Coke.

Or...

10. Put a 'house for sale' ad in the newspaper regarding a co-worker's home.

Bravo, Hamilton County Wal-Mart, Indiana. Bravo!

"Dear God ... More meatballs & less spaghetti, please?"

My personal favorite April Fools Prank comes from our sponsor, Taco Bell.

Taco Bell Buys The Liberty Bell
In an effort to help the national debt, Taco Bell is
pleased to announce that we have agreed to purchase the
Liberty Bell, one of our country’s most historic treasures.
It will now be called the ”Taco Liberty Bell” and will
still be accessible to the American public for viewing.
While some may find this controversial, we hope our
move will prompt other corporations to take similar action
to do their part to reduce the country’s debt.

Later Weird Al would go on to write a song about it called "Taco Libert-eenage Waste Land Bell." Sweet.

Ecco i quintetti base:

Personalmente, io ho fatto queste scelte:

My favourite player.

Shaquille O'Neal: che All Star Game sarebbe senza big Shaq!

Atletico, tecnicamente completo, spettacolare...speriamo in bene.

Allen Iverson: The Answer, spettacolare.

With only 11 games under their belt the Raptors are holding onto their second place standings with only 4.5 games between them and Boston, but Toronto's win a game lose a game playing this season might not be the year Raptor fans had in mind. After letting a 20 plus point lead against Dallas turn into a 105-99 loss on Tuesday with the help of Dirk Nowitzki's 32 points, most of those coming in the form of 3 pointers in the final moments of the third quarter, it would seem the Raps' coaches still have to work on their line-ups. With CB4 posting 31 points and Bargnani getting 20 points the team still only managed a 45% shooting average versus the 49% average of the Mavericks. After the game Bosh said "I'm going to start knocking down shots and playing better for my teammates" and felt he has 'turned a corner" in his game play but the rest of the team needs to get around that corner as well, especially if they are going to have to face Boston at the end of the year and bring home the championship.

Injuries seem to be creeping up on the Raptors this year as they have had to bench Garbajosa, Graham, Ford, and Nesterovic already. Garbajosa will be out a little while longer while team doctors go over the latest MIR on his ankle. Nesterovic will also be out for two weeks due to a sprained right ankle and has been replaced by Maceo Baston. If last season was any indication of the effects injuries have on the team it might not all be gloomy for the Raptors. During last season when Bosh was taken out of the line-up it couldn't have come at a better time, no longer could the team depend on CB4 which really did help bring the team together and made for some great games during the last part of the season. Could the injuries this year do the same for the new players this season?

So with the Raptors' top players out and Bosh feeling good about his game what kind of effort was given Wednesday when they entered Grizzlies territory? The Raptors came out with a 6 point win. Bosh came out and landed 22 points got 19 rebounds as well as his sixth double-double of the season, proving he is not one of those "We'll get better next game" excuse makers like other Toronto teams have. Though the Grizzlies shot for 40.5% on the night compaired to 39.1% for the Raps, they were able to get the win.
Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni admitted that Toronto's "52% on threes" is "what really hurt us". "When you’re third in the league, you have to make your threes. They’re second in the league, they made their threes.”

Up next for Toronto is at Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday with a 1 pm start. The last time they faced off Toronto won 111-78 in the pre season.

Toronto Raptors

After two disappointing post season performances of the Dallas Mavericks, Head Coach Avery Johnson, Dirk Nowitzki and the rest of the team will be back this season with only one thing in their minds: to capture the elusive NBA championship that they missed in their last two campaigns. Two years ago, the Mavericks blew their 2-0 lead in the NBA finals and the chance to win the gold by losing to the Miami Heat and just last season after leading the league with an impressive 67-15 record, the Mavs lost to the 8th seeded Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.

There's no doubt that the Mavericks will start this season pretty much like the previous year, filled with intensity and aggressiveness. Once again they will try and hope to make another title run and if ever they make it to the Finals again, I hope they can handle the pressure, play decent basketball games and hopefully emerge as NBA champions if they really deserve to take the gold.

(Note: This post contains english links ... marked with "engl.")
