Google released their mobile Email Client for most of the phone platforms called Gma

by S.Manimaraa

Google released their mobile Email Client for most of the phone platforms called Gmail mobile . I had a test run with my Nokia N95 8GB for couple of weeks. Already I tested the Gmail via the existing Nokia Email Client.

Mobile Gmail will not allow you to send attachments other wise it work fines in the native email client of my phone.

Here I mention about the Email Client (Mobile Gmail software) released by Google and the functions. Generally it is good. Loads faster comparing to Nokia Email

Simple and Cool user interface

Shortcut keys and intuitive menus

Search and find any Gmail message

It is free ,no need to pay for pop mails

The conversation view is good as the Gmail on the PC, The design optimized for the Mobile screen ,you can have a clear reading on your mails and mostly It has the inbuilt Office document viewer ,honestly I have checked Word Document only received as attachment,it opened in the email window and show the information, but the format changes according to the mobile . NO need to depend on Mobile Office to open the attachments
[gallery]

Viewing and down loading the attached images perfectly same like gmail PC version, Easy to see and download.

The dis advantages

1) You cannot send attachments now,Google team says they will provide such feature soon
2) Exiting Time is little high,It takes around 12 Seconds after I press click exit in my Nokia N95 8GB
3) If you start it accidentally cannot close it as it requires network connection to start,if you refuse for it,it stuck !

Google's Offical Video

[caption id="attachment_325" align="aligncenter" width="299" caption="Brazo Robotico"][/caption]

IF you have any doubts about where journalism is headed, take a look at this interview with the editorial chief of a Birmingham news outlet that is revamping its newsroom.

Neil Benson, editorial director - regionals, at Trinity Mirror, describes how his organisation is reducing the traditional five-step copy flow process (reporter, news desk, designer, subeditor, final check) to just three, centred on a multimedia desk.

If any of us were still wondering about the future direction of journalism education, read the article and note the focus on "multimedia journalists". This is the definition given:

"The multimedia journalists (sic) role now involves shooting video, taking picture (sic), and so forth, as well as being equipped to file from anywhere with the new web-based publishing platform." (Literacy obviously not a priority at Editors Weblog)

Interesting to note that reporters at Trinity Mirror are issued with Nokia N95 multimedia phones - just like the ones students are using at Whitireia J School.

I finally got my BlackBerry Bold a couple weeks back, and quickly switched over my Rogers data plan

I finally got my BlackBerry Bold a couple weeks back, and quickly switched over my Rogers data plan to allow BIS to pass to my device. As time is running out on the $30 data plan, I've been deciding which device I want to keep, either the new BlackBerry Bold, or the iPhone 3G.

My initial impression out of the box was much less satisfying than I had when I got my iPhone. It's possible because I was not looking forward to the phone as much as the other. I was disappointed with the basic features compared to those with the iPhone, however those features became more apparent as I activated the Bold with BIS, enabling me to access all applications available for the handset.

Lets run over whats in the box. You get a very cool looking box with the Bold sleeve over it. Inside you find the handset protected with foam on all sides. Underneath you get the standard BlackBerry wall charger and USB cable. RIM also includes a proper belt clip for the phone, with the swivel action and magnetic locking feature. Unlike most BlackBerrys, the bold come with a universal headset that can be used with any phone or device. The difference is they are in ear, noise cancelling headphones. Very nice if you're someone who enjoys a peaceful call or music.

The software on the bold is excellent, and the OS works well with the device. The Bold runs BlackBerry OS 4.6, release 125. I have encountered 2 crashes so far, once the phone kept ringing until I pulled out the battery, and Windows Live Messenger crashed my screen. The OS seems very solid, unlike what was on my 8820 prior to me getting my iPhone. With this phone, I have no issues installing software for the Bold via the Internet (OTA). There have been no software conflicts with any of the software that has been installed so far.

Windows Live Messenger

The WLM client for BlackBerry is excellent to say the least. Unfortunately I cannot compare it to much, since I was unable to install WLM on my 8820, however you are able to do almost everything you could as if you were on a computer. You can see display pictures, send files and pictures to contacts, add new contacts, and change your name/personal message. There are a few glitches with the software from time to time, most likely a problem with the servers, as many messages fail to send if the app is running too long without any input from the user.

Word To Go (Documents to Go)

Documents to go is a great addition to any mobile device, especially the Bold. Documents To Go comes on the device for free, you are able to view Word, Excel and PowerPoint right on your phone. I downloaded the trial of DTG Premium, which allows you to create actual documents while your on your phone. It is a very useful for anyone who likes to keep productivity at a high, by making that last minute presentation while your on the train.

FaceBook

Let's be honest, FaceBook mobile sucks, and so does the BlackBerry version. It was terrible on the 8820, and its still just as bad on the Bold. iPhone has a better app, even though it lacks most of the useful functions needed for the site. There needs to be a much better BB version of Facebook.

TwitterBerry

I was able to find a Twitter application for my Bold, however it is mediocre at best. Once more, it is nothing compare to iPhone rivals, both in aesthetics and functionality. BB versions include no GPS connection for localization, much like the iPhone apps. I don't use this app at all, nor have I been able to keep tabs on my Twitter account as I have no way to update it properly.

Had the Bold not been a 3G device, I would not have bothered with it. After using the iPhone, going back to EDGE or GPRS is impossible. I've been spoiled by the speed of HSPA and UMTS. Any other BlackBerry running EDGE is only good for small email retrieval and BlackBerry Messenger. With the Bold, its possible to do proper web surfing, large email downloads, and tethering, all of which are approved by Rogers with the $30 data plan.

With that said, lets talk about the Email and Internet browser. Both have been improved some from older BlackBerrys, but neither are as rich as the HTML based email and safari on the iPhone 3G. Most websites load properly on the Bold, however there are still many that are loading incorrectly, making it harder to navigate the Internet. Emails are generally not in HTML when downloaded to the handheld. You are able to download any missing images, but it does take a little bit longer, and the code does not display the email the same way it would look on your computer.

The user interface for the bold follows the same set up as BlackBerrys have seen over the past few years. Full QWERTY keyboard and click wheel in the middle of the device. One nice addition is the widescreen 480 x 320 half-VGA display, which is the same resolution as the 3.5" iPhone screen. This means even though the screen is smaller, the quality is finer on the Bold. This is good for watching movies on the bold, which is extremely simple to do. I copied over American Psycho using the BlackBerry Desktop Software, and it took around 10 minutes to copy, it automatically formatted it to work with the Bold. It plays perfectly and sounds great on the stereo speakers.

The Bold almost makes a better media player than the iPhone does. Copying music is as simple as drag and drop, and can be sync'd with iTunes music via Missing Sync the same way you would sync your iPhone, but with a bit more control. Having a proper stereo speakerphone, and stereo bluetooth means owners can listen to their music the way it was meant to be heard on a music device. The maximum capacity for the Bold is a 8GB Micro SD card, however some people state that a 16GB card works also.

Each phone has special features that others don't. However the big selling point is price. For the cheapest model of each device on a new 3 year activation on Rogers Wireless, the N95 is as low as $79.99, iPhone is $199.99, and the Bold is still $399.99. You'd be better off getting an iPhone 3G at this point in time, however soon enough the Bold will come down in price.

In the end, the Bold is an excellent BlackBerry, with a stable OS, excellent program support, and a great feel in your hand. The price is high, but early adaptors will pay anything to get it. If you love your current BlackBerry, than there is absolutely nothing that would make your hate the Bold. I would recommend finding a friend who has one, and playing around with it if you haven't already. They are great little toys, and they make the mobile world come together on one nice little device.

I’m glad I’ve waited, and I’m really hoping that this phone turns out to be as cool as I think it can be. I’ve been rocking a Nokia N95 since before the iPhone came out, through the G1 (Google Android / HTC Dream), and plan to keep it until this phone reaches the market:

From Unwired View:

The specs of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will include:

Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900), UMTS 2100, GSM/Edge, HSDPA connectivity

Symbian S60 Taco 5 OS

3.2″ 640×360px, 16M color touchscreen display

3.2mpx autofocus camera with dual LED flash and 30 FPS VGA recording

Built-in A-GPS and Wi-Fi

USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0

3.5mm headphone jack, TV-Out port

150MB of User memory

microSDHC memory card slot (up to 16GB, 8GB memory card in a box)

Dimensions: 111×52x15.5mm

Weight: 109 gr

I’m not sure what this Symbian S60 “Taco 5 OS” is all about, but if it’s anything like the current Symbian S60 OS, I’ll be happy with it. :-)

Here’s a shot of the UI, also from Unwired View:

You have no doubt read the press releases from Adobe Systems about its CS4 software for mobile conte

You have no doubt read the press releases from Adobe Systems about its CS4 software for mobile content creators and you've probably heard of Adobe's Open Screen project. If you're a mobile content creator, should you care? MobilizedTV says Yes and explains why below.

Adobe's Open Screen launched in May, the result of five years of work to get Flash onto devices of all types, from mobile phones to ATM machines, says Anup Murarka, Adobe's director of technical marketing for Mobile and Device. "What we've seen across over 800 million deployments are two industry goals or common challenges that the Open Screen project is trying to address: the first is enabling web browsing and rich internet applications across a broad range of devices and desktops," he says. "The second--and one we hear most clearly from our developers--has been to give them opportunities to enable them to publish and deliver content and applications across screens more easily than they can today."

"It's almost trivial to publish content on the web today," he notes. "We'd like to bring some of that ease of publishing and distribution to the device industry."

Murarka spoke about "two use cases" for Flash. the first for stand-alone applications and the second for web browsing. Stand-alone applications relies on AIR, the technology Adobe launched on the desktop for building desktop applications. "If you want to build an application that uses all the same web technologies you're used to but deliver it outside the browser, AIR enables this," he says. "An application installer allows developers to ship a binary that installs exactly the same way on Mac, Windows and the beta of Linux as well. We're going to take that same packaging format and work with different device partners to enable that as well, so you'll have the same application binaries installable on devices, not just desktops."

"One of the biggest gaps we have between Flash on the desktop and on a mobile devices is a difference in the scripting language," he continues. "On the desktop, we support Active Script 3 and in mobile, we're only at Active Script 2. We're working with Mozilla on an open source project to get that script working well for devices, essentially bringing the scripting language up-to-date."

The second element to the standalone application is support for hardware acceleration. "Clearly mobile devices don't have the same processing power," he says. "There's often a ten times difference, and for the high end of those categories. a lot more has to be done. A lot of our energy has been focused on taking advantage of all hardware features to accelerate the graphics capabilities of Flash. We believe we can support AIR on a fairly wide range of phones, from high-end smart phones all the way to mass market feature phones."

What will this mean for the content creator? "It gets back to the idea that developers/designers used to using web technologies can use the same skillsets and deliver applications not dependent on a browser to a wider range of devices than they've been able to."

The second use case--which builds off the first--is web browsing. "Mobile browsers have become more powerful and capable," says Murarka. "We're working to enable a complete web experience on high-end mobile devices. We still won't see web compatibility on low-end devices, but we do believe, based on several months of engineering work, that we can get desktop-compatible browsers working on smart phones. We'll need the same hardware acceleration and script browser, but it would live inside the browser. We're working with partners so that all those browsers will be updated to support Flash."

A great example of this is our work with Nokia on the Nokia E71 with a browser that actually had a Flash plug-in and could browse existing web content. "The E71 is a first attempt between our two companies to get that web compatibility working well," he says. "We're going to continue to work on it. With Open Screen, we hope to release something that's 100 percent compatible with web content. It'll take a lot of effort and it'll take a while and it won't be on all phones, but we believe we can do it with the high-end smart phone."

Adobe has also been successful at creating a suite of well-known software tools for content creators, including Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver. Creative Suite 4 (CS4) focuses on the broader workflow, from planning through management of assets and metadata all the way through delivery.

Carol Linburn, Adobe group product manager, for mobile authoring, describes how CS4's Device Central helps mobile content creators. "Particularly relevant for mobile is the explosion of new devices and the number of screens people are targeting," she says. "The major brands are thinking how they can move content across these screens. RIght now, there is a lot of additional testing and complexity with piping out content in all these different ways and formats. There's a lot of versioning of content, and it's more complex and harder to get started." To keep content developers abreast of where their content might be headed, every time you open CS4, it will show a window of newly shipped devices.

Testing and optimizing is a "huge time sink," says Lindburn, and Device Central is aimed at shrinking that. "We're doing some interesting things around automating the testing process," she says. "Instead of a developer going device by device, they can set up a test script and set it up for 50 to 100 devices. Then they can see the 10 phones where their content isn't running correctly, go in and diagnose the problem."

"Automated testing is moving from a world where you have to test everything individually, to a position where you can create a test script to interact with the content and capture keystroke interactions, which can be shared with different developers," says Lindburn. "You can use that as a way to batch test and not have to test sequentially. You can test simultaneously and you get visual output [snapshots] and error messages that might occur for different devices. We can also adjust latency and so on to give the developer a chance to see what the content looks like on a slower or faster network."

Another challenge addressed by the new Adobe software focuses on how to showcase content for clients. "If you're in LA and your client is in NY, and you're targeting a Nokia N95, but the client doesn't have one, you have to FedEx one across the country," she says. "This isn't conducive to the design process, which is iterative."

To showcase content to clients, Adobe has added two things: Device Central will spit out a quick storyboard that can be saved to an HTML file that's easy to share. Likewise, the content creator can capture a video recording and save it as a Quicktime file for people to view. "The person viewing the content doesn't even need CS4 installed, so it's a much easier way to share content with a broader audience," says Lindburn.

She also states that Adobe looked at how to get Flash designers used to building for the web to bridge to the mobile platform. That problem is addressed by Device Central, which is already integrated with the toolset those Flash animators are already using. "It allows them to preview their work on a variety of devices and a range of media types within the same environment," she says.

"The other piece to get people started is an easier way to manage mobile projects," says Lindburn. "There is complexity with keeping all the assets together and CS4 offers project management capability. How do I get my files to a phone? You might have different publishing routines or "output tasks" and I can set them up and do it with a single click." Adobe has also built an SDK (software development kit) for partners to plug into Device Central directly with their different packaging routines.
