Wie ich jetzt auf diese dämliche Idee komme??? Vergangene Ereignisse beweisen, das der Gamer zu der Sorte Mensch gehört, der Veränderungen in seinem Genre, was er leben & lieben gelernt hat, nicht verkraften kann.

Hier ein paar nette Beispiele:

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Nachdem Nintendo einen weiteren Teil der Serie bekannt gab, war jeder Happy wie ein Hippo. Doch nach dem die ersten Screenshots auftauchten, war das Entsetzen groß! Links neuestes Abenteuer in Cell Shading. Das geht nun wirklich nicht! Die Begeisterung hielt sich in Grenzen, wie Merkels neuste Frisuren.

Metal Gear Solid 2

Mit Metal Gear Solid hatte Hideo Kojima den Durchbruch in der Metal Gear Reihe geschafft. Metal Gear Solid erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und hohe Wertungen in Fachzeitschriften. Um so größer, war wohl auch der Druck für den Nachfolger. In den ersten 20min des Spiels, konnte man mit good old Solid Snake durch das Level schleichen. Das war es dann aber auch. Den Rest des Spiels musste man sich mit Raiden abfinden. Ein herber Rückschlag für Metal Gear Solid Fans. Wenn man schon eine Tucke spielen muss, warum dann nicht gleich Tingle!

Castlevania 3D

Tja die guten alten 2D Zeiten. Ja ja ... ne war das schön. Doch dann kam das böse 3D. Nun ja Konami hatte mit der Castlevania Reihe eigentlich immer ein gutes 2D Spiel hingelegt. Bis dann halt der N64 kam. Ab da an, musste alles in die dritte Dimension befördert werden. Doch nachdem die PlayStation erschien, gab es wieder Hoffnung. Die Rede ist natürlich von Castlevania - Symphony of the Nights. Das bis heute ungeschlagenste Castlevania Spiel. Zurecht! Das Spiel hatte einfach alles: RPG Elemente, spannende Bosskämpfe, liebevolle Grafik und Animationen, ein grandioser Soundtrack, trashige Sprachausgabe und und und. Nur die neuesten Ableger auf dem Nintendo DS können mit diesem Meisterwerk mithalten. Der Rest wurde ins 3D verbannt und konnten seit dem nicht mehr den alten Standard mithalten. Warum nicht einmal ein 2D Castlevania HD auf einer Next Gen Konsole?

Resident Evil 4

Zombies, eine Spezialeinheit, einfache aber spannende Story, dicke Waffen ... JA! Das ist die Welt von Resident Evil. Virusverseuchtes Gesocks mit der Schrotflinte über den Haufen pusten, überleben und nebenbei das eine oder andere Rätsel lösen. Das und nicht mehr ist Resident Evil. Aber auch hier haben die Entwickler sich vom eigentlichen Konzept verabschiedet und sind einen neuen Weg gegangen. Mit dem 4. Teil der Serie wurde ein komplett neues Konnzept enthüllt, das bei den Fans auf wenig Begeisterung stieß. Und auch der 5. Teil ist nicht bei jedem so beliebt. Die einen mögen es, die anderen hassen es und bleiben bei Resident Evil 1-2 (weitere Nachfolger waren zwar in alter Tradition, konnten jedoch mit den ersten beiden Teilen nicht wirklich mithalten).

Mario Kart N64 & Co.

Der SNES Teil der Serie absolut ungeschlagen und bei den Fans geliebt. Zahlreiche Ableger konnten nicht die selbe Euphorie hervor bringen, wie einst zu den SNES Zeiten. Der N64Teil war in der Reihe der mißglückteste Teil und auch auf dem Gamecube konnte das Spiel nicht jeden Gamer vor die Glotze locken. Tja Gamer sind halt wählerisch.

Bomberman 3D

Und wieder die guten alten Zeiten. Das damalige Bomberman hat viele begeistert und lockt noch heute mit seinem 2D Charm und der lustigen Grafik zu abendlichen Multiplayer Sessions ein. Aber auch hier wurden diverse Nachfolger in die 3. Dimension katapultiert. Diverse Spinoffs und Remakes wollten einfach nicht so sehr gefallen.

Diablo III

Jetzt kommt es Knüppeldick! Diablo 1 & 2 von den Fans geliebt, wird an dem noch nicht veröffentlichen 3. Teil gemeckert. Nichts ist mehr so wie in den vorherigen Teilen war. Das Spiel in den Augen der Fans ein Desaster!

... Vermutlich könnte ich die Liste noch weiter fortsetzen, würde ich mir die Zeit dafür nehmen, um weiter zu recherchieren. Fakt ist jedoch, der Gamer ist ein ganz fieses Gewohnsheitstier, dem man es einfach nicht recht machen kann. Wehe sein Spiel weicht zu sehr von der eigentlichen Norm ab, dann ist das Geschrei  groß. Jüngstes Beispiel sei hier einfach mal Diablo III zu erwähnen.

Schwer für die Gamer und Entwickler zu gleich, es jedem so gut wie möglich recht zu machen und auf die Bedürfnisse einzugehen. Es ist halt doch alles Macht der Gewohnheit :-)

Hello all, both TripV and I have been avid Nintendo Power readers throughout our lives. TripV has a great collection of old school NP's running through to the N64 era. My collection on the other hand begins in the N64 era, I know call me a n00b and whatnot, but I really didn't own a Nintendo system until that point. Anyways Nintendo Power can be considered a big influence in both TripV's and my decision to write about video games. As can be seen in the 20th Anniversary issue, the editors at Nintendo Power made Top 20 countdowns for every Nintendo system, and since we here at Mediarahan are diehard Nintendo fans, we'll be applying our Top 9 method for each system NP covered. For the next four days we will roll out our Top 9 lists, starting today with the NES and Gameboy/Color.  In the meantime, you can watch this great episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd where he takes a look at Nintendo Power's past.

Everyone loves to create their own legends wrestlers and have their favourite classics take on each other, or current superstars.  But these "creations" were never 100% "right".  If only a game coming along would allow you to truly go back, in a way that was (until now) only hinted at with the Blue Steel Cage and WrestleMania IX ring from a few SmackDown's ago.  Good news... there IS.

THQ has announced a WWE Legends of WrestleMania game.  While minimal details are known at this time, it is confirmed that Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan are in the game.  And judging by this video here, it looks incredible.

IGN also has an interesting little preview, and I am exceptionally pumped to hear that Heenan (as Andre's manager) actually gets involved in the match.

No roster details are announced, so let the specualting begin! It's highly unlikely that the Ultimate Warrior will be in the game due to his licensing issues with WWE/WWF, not to mention his questionable sanity. And unfortunately, I doubt "Macho Man" Randy Savage will be in; they still haven't released a DVD compilation of one of their best World Champions ever, nor have they had any involvement with him since he left WCW. While there are rumours about why this is so (rumours which I will not help perpetuate), it is a shame. Because I would love to re-enact the Main Events from WrestleMania V and VI.

The game contains 40 wrestlers, and is set in the 80s and 90s. There are countless stars from those eras for WWE to choose from, and so many WrestleMania Moments to be recreated. I can't wait!

Animal Crossing started it's run on the Nintendo 64, with the Japan-only release in April of 2001, Dōbutsu no Mori, which literally means "Animal Forest." The game was marketed as a Life Simulation game, and gained attention for its unique gameplay. December of that same year, Nintendo re-released the game in Japan for the Gamecube, and made use of the real-time internal clock to keep track of time in the game.

Animal Crossing made its debut in the US September 15th, 2002, and recieved great consumer and critical reception. X-Play dubbed the game the 7th best game on the Gamecube, and was given high ratings by most game reviewers.

The success of Animal Crossing on the Gamecube and the popularity of the Nintendo DS prompted the creation of an Animal Crossing port for the DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World, which released worldwide in the fall of 2005. It was the first true sequel for the series, since all the versions before it were ports and remakes of the original game. The game added new features which expanded the current village layout, and made use of the NIntendo Wi-Fi Connection feature for the DS by allowing a player's friends to visit their village.

Memorable characters such as Tom Nook and Resetti, slow-paced but rewarding gameplay, and a unique environment have all helped make Animal Crossing one of Nintendo's best-selling franchises of this decade. According to the Nintendo site, a November release for Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii is planned for the US release.

The handiness as for it very technical, finally is very coded, there are several ways of taking the turns in Excite Bike 64: either you slow down (by slackening the accelerator) or you slow down a skilled, or you made a skid, and each turn with its own manner of happening, which adds a little realism because for gamed good it is necessary to be involved much on the same circuit, if not one meat with each turn, that is certainly a little discouraging for the beginners but so realistic (you believe that in a Grand Prix of formula 1 the pilots bring back themselves without any knowledge of the circuit without being itself lengthily to involve?). But Excite Bike 64 is not only one game of motor bike, it is also a game of motocross, and which says motocross says huge jumps. One spends indeed much time in the airs in this game, the circuits are indeed filled of bumps, if I say to you that they is as tiresome to make the jumps as the turns, you will realize at which point the handiness of this game is technical especially that each person with its own characteristics and its style of control, some are specialists in the jumps, others prefer speed, others still privilege the turns, etc. Fortunately that there is a good tutorial mode, because the game would be as accessible as a top model.

I remember playing this game when I was a kid and being really disappointed because all you could do was race and you couldn't walk around Tatooine.

That's all I really remember about the game when I was a kid and when I played it for the N64. But, since my N64 is currently in the possession of my dad who lives in Florida, I recently went out and bought the PC version of this game and decided to give it another go, just in time for Retro Revival Week.

So what do I think about this game in the present day? Well...it's not too bad.

The game starts out promising. You got a bunch of different racers to choose from when you first start. I just went with Anakin because he had the best stats.

The initial races are pretty fun. There are several different planets you can race on, and there are four different tournaments in the tournament mode, so there are four different tracks for each of the planets. No matter what, every race in which you participate in is based off of a three lap system. Additionally, each lap can last from one minute to up to three and half.

The tournament mode can get pretty fun until you get to the semi-pro's. You can't choose your level of difficulty in Racer, and if your pod racer isn't up to date with all of the best parts, you can really take it up the ass in most races. Going 600+ MPH doesn't really help either.

Since it's past midnight and I want to go to bed, here's a handy dandy list of some of the complaints I had with Racer:

1. Your pod racer can't take a whole lot of damage before it explodes, which is understandable...except for the fact that most race tracks have very small enclosures without a lot of space for maneuvering and there are some near impossible tight turns that you have to make. And did I mention yet that you're going 600+ MPH?!
2. Your pod racer can randomly explode for no goddamn reason.
3. Some environmental hazards are extremely retarded. There's one where an earthquake breaks away the race track while you're going over it. What the crap? How are you supposed to know that happens and how are you supposed to not die at that part?
4. There's no tutorial and the manual doesn't help. The pod racer controls take awhile to get used to.
5. Three and a half minute long laps are ridiculous.

And to end this review, I'll leave you with a story. There was this one race in the Galatic Tournament that I couldn't beat. Each lap lasted about...you guessed it, three and a half minutes. I did this race twice and lost both times. I tried it again one last time before I would give up, and finally! I'm just about to win!

And then my keyboard fails.

And I crash into a wall.

And I lose.

...

I almost threw my keyboard. Almost. It did warrant a "Son of a bitch!" however.

Built off of an improved Goldeneye engine, Perfect Dark was a game that is still truly one of the best first person shooters you could spend your time with. The story is amazing, taking you on all kinds of insane missions. Through the buildings of opposing corporations, to being a stewardess on Air Force One, to infiltrating Area 51 to free a giant-headed little grey man. The mission difficulty, like Goldeneye, does more than give you tougher enemies, it also gives you more mission objectives to accomplish. Perfect Dark is one of those games that you'll remember for a lifetime.

The single player has an insane number of weapons, all of them with alternate fire modes. Don't want to use the Laptop Gun as a standard automatic? The use the alt-fire to through the gun at the wall and have it be a robotic turret. Out of ammo in the Dragon Assault Rifle? Throw it in a doorway as a proximity mine. Many of the game's weapons have crazy uses such as these. Some weapons and attacks leave the person on the business end disoriented, the screen leaving vast amounts of motion blur behind, pretty much ruining any chance you have of aiming correctly. One of these weapons in the tranquilizer gun. Yes, a tranq gun that actually disorients and immobilizes your opponents. Even the AI bots react realistically, running into walls, and flailing their guns around in an effort to put you down. All in all, the weapons are plentiful and memorable.

The multiplayer in the game is just as unforgettable as Goldeneye's. As usual, 4 people can have at it, tearing each other apart in one of the game's many multiplayer maps. The game's ludicrous amount of options paved the way for Time Splitters and Halo's highly customizable multiplayer modes. The ability to save game settings as a new multiplayer mode is seen in today's Halo franchise. But options weren't the only thing Perfect Dark gave you the ability to control. This game contained many customizable multiplayer "Simulants", or bots. These guys are further broken down into AI difficulty and AI type. Everything from a peace-loving hippy AI to a bot that kills the person in first place, to a bot that is obsessed with disarming people. Did I mention you can disarm people?

The game is a true marvel. It includes options that most games should have included, but don't to this day. Such as the option for widescreen play (I'm looking at you, last-gen consoles), Co-op everything (and if you don't have a buddy around, a simulant can help you out), Winner Out/Loser Out multiplayer options, per player gameplay options (control schemes, character models, basic gameplay options), the ability to customize bot AI, and one of my personal favorites, that I've never seen in a game since: Counter-Op. Counter-Op is like co-op, only the second person takes the place of an enemy in the game, with that enemy's particular skills/weapons, if they die, they switch to another enemy. Makes for a wonderful cat-and-mouse gameplay type. Want to shoot a rocker launcher without being in the level? Have a go at the targeting range. Want to immerse yourself in this world even more? Take your shoes off, park on the couch and read the myriad case-files, bios, and documents on all the characters, weapons, missions, and gadgets. This game is, to this day, one of the best shooters you could ever immerse yourself in.

Perfect Dark also has a slew of graphical options, from screen size to the option for "high-res" textures, to the ability to play with two N64 controllers at once (one in each hand). If you've never tried "Double" control, I highly suggest you do, its fucking incredible. It actually reminds me of more modern control schemes today.
