Debenhams have an influential positoin on the British High Street as they not only sell their own cl

Debenhams have an influential positoin on the British High Street as they not only sell their own clothing ranges, but also those of other designers such as: Jasper Conran, John Rocha, Betty Jackson, Julien MacDonald, Matthew Williamson, Pearce II Fionda, Ben De Lisi, Pip, Hackett and Ted Baker amongst others.

I have written to them to find out about their ethical standards. As you will see on my 'High Street' page they are a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), however their ethical code of conduct is a little confusing. They have a 'Supplier Code of Conduct' concerning ethical and fair treatment of their workers, but Debenhams don't appear to have an ethical policy that applies to themselves - perhaps I am confused!

Here are the questions I have asked them:

In which countries do you have factories that produce your merchandise?
What percentage of the retail price of an item goes to the worker who made it?
How do you determine how much to pay workers?
Do your workers have a contract with you and know that they can rely on a steady level of income?
Do you pay your workers in cash or through a bank; do they have the opportunity to save money in a bank account that earns interest?
Do you carry out any audits on your suppliers to ensure they are complying with your ‘Supplier Code of Conduct'?
What action would you take if a supplier failed to meet the terms of your ‘Supplier Code of Conduct'?

When I receive the response from Debenhams I will post it on this website - please come back to see what they have to say! Next and Boden have responded already, see their respective pages.

Sightseeing

It seems like a high school affair when two girls are spotted in te same outfit or prom wear. But in LA you'd think it's a big place for fashion to not have neighbor clashes, but sadly enough for the starlets and gladly enough for us, girls just can't seem to stop copying each other. Down to the very dress and pose...har. Lookie here, Khloe parties at her 24th birthday party three weeks ago, making her the winner of this Dolce & Gabanna beauty. Lauren wears it later at a Dark Knight premiere. Who do you think wears it better?

Like fire and water, orange and blue are two powerful shades that can be paired together but still balance each other out. It's a look that appeared in many of the last two season's shows, but it isn't tiresome because of the plethora of different hues and ways to wear it. The colours work splendidly in patterns and prints, and can be used in colour blocks or with neutrals. I love how it brings so much life to an outfit! Don't shy away from it; doubtless there are a myriad of ways to wear it you haven't even seen yet.

I love the way the carroty orange and cobalt blue flirt with each other in this DvF dress (S/S 08).

Furiously vivid hues make colour blocking extraordinary - feel free to add green, but there's a fine line between terrific and terrible. (Etro S/S 08)

Pastels tone it down for what I like to call blasé chic. Don't these sherbet colours make you hungry? (Matthew Williamson S/S 08)

This is a bit older, but I wanted to show it as an example of a more mellowed out colour combination of rusty orange and navy can work while still looking fantastic - and that's three different shades of orange! (Marc Jacobs A/W 08/09)

Just a note: if you're pale, don't wear pastel shades; they'll wash out your skin. More intense hues will really make the difference (compare Matthew Williamson with Etro above)

Lace-up ankle boots are one of the best ways to add a bit of that masculine feel that’s so on

Lace-up ankle boots are one of the best ways to add a bit of that masculine feel that's so on-trend currently. From office to fun, chunky to stiletto, ankle to knee-high, masculine to girly, there is a design for everybody, and don't fret - if your idea of lace-up boots involved knee-high Doc Martens, think again.

1. If you're short, flash some ankle. To lengthen those pins, wear an ankle boot that cuts below your ankle like that open toed Gucci pair above. (My favourite!)

2. Boots don't have to be boring. For a more girly look, choose a pair with ribbons for laces or replace the laces on your shoes with a matching ribbon. (Moschino Cheap & Chic above)

3. Wear with stockings (preferably the same colour to elongate the legs) and a high hemline. It just looks funny with a hem below the knee. (Of course, for summer, ditch the stockings and go for a girly short skirt with a more manly shoe. Contrast is what it's all about.)

I have to say, I love the look of the Matthew Williamson ones. Half boot, half sandal - works all year round and comes in green, blue or yellow!

Our sister site Rantersparadise, has done a brilliant if more celeb fused rundown of last nights wacky and crazy celebs @ da ball! Fascista's about fashion dah-ling...so that's my main concern-did they actually look good?

The Queen Bee

Lets start with the queen shall we?

No great fan of Wintour-she delivers little surprises or much pleasure here. She's followed the brief about Superheroes so deserves credit for that but she never wears the outfits-they always were her.

Drab, grey, mettallic and austere; this outfit looks unpleasant on her, making her look like a gargoyle.

*THE CLOTHES WHORE.

The Twinorexic coke fiends

The healthier of the two, Ashley looks HOTT! Dress makes her look older then an 11 year old, clings beautifully to her figure giving her a sexy edge-it's safe and black but the style raises the bar from all the other black dresses we saw.

Mary-Kate, the one that's obviously more into the smack side of things, looks like she needs her sister to prop her up. Her mish mash wannabe style of decadent colours & fabrics, fall flat here as is often her case. She ALWAYS looks like she's tried too hard. Her face is a blurby goldy mess and that dress should have at least been customized to fit her? Sh-urely?

*MK: THE CLOTHES WHORE ASHLEY: THE HOT

The EX-MODEL turned Hollywood movie star

Diane Kruger has no excuse, she used to model, so she should at least look decent which she does nearly all the time, she delivers-there is little soul but she wears the outfits. But with this. I have one long word.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. OUCH!

Those pins are a winner. The silver simple yet heavily detailed dress clashes brilliantly with her pink stillettos and her face radiates as it's covered with subtle but striking make up. Topping it off with a beehive.

*THE HOT

The flashindapan British designer with the flashindapan American actress

Now I can see why they would've paired off this these two-Bryant is usually stunning with lovely chocolate skin and Williamson is the king of colour with a deep love of ethnic fabrics. But WTF has he put on her?? It's like bad, bad, baaad Pucci!

They are both trying to keep their spirits up but he's made her look an utter mess, like she carelessly stumbled into her mothers old vintage clothes, that weren't that great way back then!?

Jess Stam is one of my fave models, on the catwalk AND editorially, which is quite a mean feat! But god damn is she close to death? She looks like she's in a heavy heroin fuelled coma, which explains the outfit I'm guessing?

The dress is nice, the shoes aren't bad an she also has that beehive but compare to Kruger and see who looks more comfortable wearing the micro dress?

Don't you remember when you were younger and you just loved doing spot the difference?

They were usually really really obvious but enjoyable to do all the same. Well I've got the latest spot the difference coming to you direct from Matthew Williamson V's MK One (yes that's right - that shop that you would never think of stepping in)

Apart from the fact that one of these dresses is on an uber skinny glam model and the other one is just lying flat, could you tell which was the real deal and which wasn't?

What's more is that the photograph above features a dress which retails for just under £600 (£595 to be precise) but it is Matthew Williamson I suppose - you pay something for the name.

However can you possibly guess the price of the second??

£15

yes 15 pounds!! Continue your good work copy cat stores!

Here's a quick New York Fashion Week Roundup, featuring my favorite designers and some noticeable trends:

Plaid was everywhere, from Yohji Yamamoto at Y-3 (seen below) to Americana conservator, Ralph Lauren. Proenza Schouler's menswear-inspired ensembles favored monochromatic jewel tones and oversized bow ties, while Karen Walker stuck to her Bohemian Bourgeoisie guns and featured flower-print dresses, chunky-knit striped tights, and lots of colors reminiscent of the '70s.

It looks like cobalt blue is sticking around for another season, as strains of the shade were noticeable in the majority of collections, including Matthew Williamson. The British designer's collection was a mishmash of fluorescent hues; fur coats, vests, and scarves; flower-print patterns; and even evocative of traditional Tibetan patterns.

I'm glad to see that Samsonite are moving into a good direction. With previous collabs with Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson ,and Marc Newson. It would have been just as easy for them to do a corny collab collection with some weak "streetwear" company. This luxury collection of soft leather travel bags and accessories under Samsonite's Black Label Collection is super ill with a eye on clean design, which in this world of super bright, multi covered nonsense is a added relief. Made up mostly of beauty cases, boarding bags and travel totes for both men and women, the collection will be called "Samsonite Black Label by Viktor & Rolf". Plan for a worldwide launch for this new collection fall 2008.

Hello! The editors of The Moment have been hounding me for an email dispatch for the readers of The Moment so thought I’d drop you guys a quick line.

I landed in Miami on Sunday night as I love flying in at night — it’s as if you’re hovering over a huge sequin carpet!

I travel a lot, and I am still jetlagged from a trip last week to Tokyo to celebrate the 60th-anniversary of Pucci. Let’s just say it’s been a tough few days.

My friends think I live this incredibly glamorous existence, but it’s not always what it seems. I’m actually a few weeks late designing the next Pucci collection, so I am trying to spend as much of this week on my own as I can to work on Autumn/Winter 2008.

I have to say, it feels strange designing fur, cashmere and leather by the pool at the Shore Club with the sun beating down on me, but there are worse places to be working form.

And it’s amazing how inspired I feel in Miami. I really love this place. The people, the shops, the art, the bars and clubs. It’s such any energetic place. I’ve got so much work done in just a few of days!

But I’ve also had a bit of fun partying. I went to the opening of the new Florida Room at the Delano that’s designed by Lenny Kravitz. I caught up with Ben Pundole, my friend from London who works with Amy Sacco at Bungalow 8. And I had a really fun dinner with Laudomia Pucci and Anastasia Barbieri, my stylist for Pucci, who also works at Vogue Homme and French Vogue. She's in Miami shooting a couple of men's wear stories, and she’s always a riot to hang out with.

Last night we had an outdoor Pucci dinner for over 200 people in this enormous tent at an insane house on one of the ritziest streets in Miami. We had these oversize Pucci-print balloons floating in a ballroom that people had to walk through to get to the lawns. Then there was an after-party on the beach and about a million other parties all over the city, but I was exhausted and called it a night on the early side.

I am trying to be a good boy, because I only have two days left in Miami to complete the collection, before heading off to New York, where I’m scouting for a space to open a Matthew Williamson store in Summer 08.

And, of course, I’ve also been hitting the fair. I have a new house back in London and so would love to find me a little something! But in order to afford it, I better get back to the pool and pretend it’s winter. Wish you were all here.
