A general strike on the whole area of Czech Republic took place on 24th of June 2008. The trade union organizations with support of other public organizations and left-wing political parties launched it as a lawful way of the protests against the so-called "reforms" of the current government. More than 1 million people walked out - the engine drivers, health care employees, office clerks, farmers...
The doctors in hospitals started with the strike since 6 ´clock a.m., as well as the sanitary personal. The private doctors supported also their colleagues. The railway and long-distance traffic was paralyzed as well as the regional traffic between 13.00 and 14.00. Some connections were cancelled.
The regional traffic in Prague was stopped on some lines and in Brno completely. The stopping of the traffic is a clear signal that the people
aren´t unconcerned to the anti-social policy of the current government led by Civic Democratic Party and Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek. The fact
that more than one million people stopped their work is a warning for the government. The Communist Youth Union (KSM) has actively participated in many places in the Czech Republic, for example in Mlada Boleslav, where the strike was organized in the whole biggest car factory in our country, the SKODA.
This strike was the biggest strike since year 1990 and it was very successful. In spite of this the current government of the Czech Republic
isn´t concerned with the interests of the working class. The so-called "social reforms" are a priority for Civic Democratic Party a its allies
(it means in particular the retirement in 65 years, the decrease in social security, introduction of a paid healthcare system, the annulment of the
birth and death grant, shortening of the maternity leave, the impairment of the amount of working places in the production sector...).
In the next moths the trade unions in cooperation with other civic organizations prepare the next strikes in all areas of the public life and
also in the private sector.

The Communist Youth Union fully supports these protests, it actively participates in thein organization and appeals to
all its members and friends to join the strikes to show that only the united and organized struggle of the working people and the youth can
bring victory.

We would like to inform you that following an initiative by the parliamentary group of our party 80 MPs - among them party leaders, 2 out of the 5 vice-presidents of the Parliament and several former ministers - signed a petition to the Czech government and the other competent authorities, calling for the withdrawal of a ban on the operation of the Communist Youth Union of Czech Republic.

The MPs come from practically all parties in the Greek parliament, with the exception of the extreme-right Popular Orthodox Rally (LA.OS) party, and include all 22 deputies of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), 11 MPs from the ruling New Democracy Party (ND), 33 from major opposition party PASOK, and 14 from the SYRIZA party.

The petition that was submitted to the Czech Republic embassy in Athens is the following:

“To the competent Authorities of the Czech Republic

The decision of the Court of Prague to ban the action of the Communist Youth Union of the Czech Republic (KSM) constitutes a dangerous development as it calls into question the elementary political freedoms and fundamental rights. It leads to the penalization of the right to express one’s different political view.

The Members of the Greek Parliament signing this appeal demand the revocation of the banning of the KSM action.”

From The Associated Press story, High Court Sides with Guantanamo Detainees Again:

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay have rights under the Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts.

In its third rebuke of the Bush administration's treatment of prisoners, the court ruled 5-4 that the government is violating the rights of prisoners being held indefinitely and without charges at the U.S. naval base in Cuba. The court's liberal justices were in the majority.

Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the court, said, "The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times."

Kennedy said federal judges could ultimately order some detainees to be released, but that such orders would depend on security concerns and other circumstances.

It was not immediately clear whether this ruling, unlike the first two, would lead to prompt hearings for the detainees, some of whom have been held more than 6 years. Roughly 270 men remain at the island prison, classified as enemy combatants and held on suspicion of terrorism or links to al-Qaida and the Taliban.

The ruling could resurrect many detainee lawsuits that federal judges put on hold pending the outcome of the high court case. The decision sent judges, law clerks and court administrators scrambling to read Kennedy's 70-page opinion and figure out how to proceed. Chief Judge Royce C. Lamberth said he would call a special meeting of federal judges to address how to handle the cases.

Kegiatan SEG ini diadakan setiap tahun oleh Kelompok Studi Manajemen (KSM). Dan tahun ini merupakan SEG ke XIII. Diikuti oleh 65 peserta, SEG tahun ini lebih memperketat peraturan, seperti tidak diperbolehkan membawa HP di laboratorium komputer (yang dijadikan tempat lomba) dan tempat duduk peserta yang diatur oleh panitia.

Acara SEG ini diawali dengan pembekalan materi pasar modal oleh Maria Rio Rita, selaku dosen FE UKSW. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan sesi Pasar Perdana di Lab Hijau dan Lab Baru. Dalam sesi ini, para peserta hanya membeli saham. Dilanjutkan dengan sesi Pasar Sekunder I-IV. Dalam pasar sekunder peserta bisa mulai menjual maupun membeli saham. Dalam acara SEG ini, para peserta berlomba-lomba untuk bisa mendapatkan capital gain sebanyak-banyaknya. Yang bisa mendapatkan capital gain terbesar dari cash on hand awal, itulah yang menjadi pemenang.

Juara pertama dari SEG ini berhak mendapatkan uang sebesar Rp.750 ribu, juara kedua Rp 500 ribu dan juara ketiga Rp 150 ribu. Juara pertama diraih oleh Stefanus Galaxy, Andi Pratama (juara kedua) dan Mira Hayuningtyas (juara ketiga). Ada kendala-kendala yang dihadapi dalam acara ini, seperti kondisi lab yang tidak menunjang, software sudah lama dan konflik antar panitia. Untuk ke depannya, FE UKSW berharap bisa menjadi tuan rumah SEG Nasional.

Statement of the participants of the 3rd European Meeting in Brussels

On Thursday, April 24th, 2008 the Communist Youth Union (KSM) received a decision of the Municipal Court of Prague which rejected the administrative protest delivered by the KSM against the decision of the Ministry of Interior of Czech Republic on the dissolution of the Communist Youth Union (KSM). The ban of the KSM by Ministry of Interior was declared as lawful.

As an official reason of the banning of the KSM was declared a programmatic goal of the KSM to replace private ownership of means of production with a collective ownership of means of production. Also the reason for the dissolution of KSM was the convincement of the young people about the necessity to struggle for another society not based on the capitalist principles. The attack against the KSM is also an unacceptable kind of the political and ideological manipulation that targets the whole communist movement. There are constantly repeated initiatives to criminalize the communist ideology and every public activity that calls for the realisation of the interests of the exploited and oppressed people.

This step of the Ministry of Interior caused a fundamental disagreement of the majority of the Czech people.

This attack against the KSM is a culmination of a long lasting anti-Communist campaign. This campaign has been represented e.g. with a petition called „Let's ban the communists", the tendency to push through the law that should criminalize the ideas of communism, the movement and the word communist as such, and equating communism with fascism and fascist crimes. The tendencies to ban the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM) have become more intensive, accordingly to the attacks against other progressive and democratic force in the Czech Republic. There is in progress an endeavour to realize historic revisionism that should attack the communists, progressive, democratic and anti-fascist tradition and experiences. The anti-communist campaigns use a state system of the public education as well as the mass media.

We have to underline that the banning of the KSM is the attack against the whole communist movement, also against the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia which the state power has not dared to attack directly so far, therefore it does so indirectly through the attack against the KSM.

We, participants of the 3rd Meeting in Brussels strongly rejected the anti-democratic steps of the state bodies of the Czech Republic and call out for the immediate stop of the repressive policy and abolishment of the ban of the KSM.

No to the ban of the Communist Youth Union! No to anti-communism!

Es war nur eine Frage der Zeit: KSM hat sich die Rechte an Jet Lis neuem Film "Warlords" gesichert. Die Lizenz beinhaltet sowohl alle Rechte für den Home Entertainment Markt als auch für Kino und TV.

Ende 2007 kam "The Warlords" in Asien in die Kinos, in Europa wird der Film Ende 2008 gestartet, also ein Jahr später... wieso dauert das eigentlich immer so lange, aber egal. Wir freuen uns darüber, dass er überhaupt in den Kinos anläuft und nicht als Direct-to-DVD. ;-)

Wann KSM den Film veröffentlichen wird, steht noch nicht fest, aber wir halten euch auf dem Laufenden.

Kegiatan ET (Executive Training) di tahun 2008 ini merupakan penyelenggaraan yang ketiga kalinya oleh Kelompok Studi Manajemen (KSM). Dalam kegiatan ini, para peserta diajarkan cara-cara menjadi mahasiswa professional dan pribadi professional dalam menghadapi dunia kerja di masa yang akan datang.

Ketua panitia ET, Ratih Sulistyorini berharap dengan adanya kegiatan seperti ini mahasiswa akan lebih siap untuk masuk ke dalam dunia kerja. Bagaimanapun juga pelajaran seperti ini tidak bisa didapat di dalam ruang kuliah. Kegiatan yang diadakan pada hari Rabu (26/3) ini bertempat di hotel berbintang empat yang cukup mewah untuk ukuran kota kecil Salatiga, Laras Asri Resor & Spa.

ET menyedot antusiasme mahasiswa yang cukup banyak. Terbukti dengan penuhnya ruangan yang berkapasitas 70 orang. Para peserta sendiri, mendapat sertifikat dari Hotel Laras Asri sebagai bukti telah mengikuti pelatihan Table Manner. Kegiatan yang sempat molor 30 menit ini juga dihadiri ketua senat, Rachel L.R. Sinambela serta Koordinator Bidang Kemahasiswaan, Arief Widodo.

Acara ini dibagi menjadi empat sesi dengan pembicara dari pihak kampus. Alasan panitia lebih memilih pembicara dari dalam dikarenakan kemampuan mereka (dari pihak kampus) tidak kalah dengan pembicara dari luar, selain itu panitia juga ingin menambah jam terbang mereka.

Pada sesi pertama membahas bagaimana cara membentuk professional image yang dibawakan oleh Linda Kusuma. Pada sesi ini, peserta diberikan cara-cara membentuk image seorang professional, tingkah laku seorang professional, serta cara berpakaian seorang professional. Cukup banyak pertanyaan dari peserta pada saat sesi ini.

Pada sesi kedua materi dibawakan oleh Albert Kriestian N.A.N dengan tema “Negosiasi itu Tidak Sukar”. Dalam sesi ini, para peserta diberikan penjelasan tentang negosiasi, tips-tips negosiasi yang benar dan menguntungkan satu sama lain (win-win solution), serta langkah-langkah dalam bernegosiasi.

Sesi selanjutnya adalah sesi yang paling menarik bagi para peserta. Pada sesi ketiga para peserta diajarkan Table Manner yang dipandu oleh chief (juru masak) dari Laras Asri. Disini para peserta diberikan penjelasan tentang tata cara makan yang benar, istilah-istilah dalam menyebut peralatan makan yang digunakan serta alat-alat makan yang diperlukan.

Wajah lelah dan penat sangat tampak dari para peserta, hal ini dikarenakan mereka terlalu lama berada di dalam ruangan. Akan tetapi rasa itu perlahan hilang ketika seorang koki mempertunjukan cara memasak (cooking show) dengan teknik-teknik tertentu dan pertunjukan bartender dalam meracik minuman-minuman yang nikmat serta menyegarkan. Pertunjukan yang jarang bisa disaksikan secara langsung bagi mahasiswa pada umumnya.

Namun karena keterbatasan waktu, sesi empat yang sedianya dilaksanakan, mendadak dibatalakan. Rencananya pada sesi ini para peserta akan diajak berkeliling Hotel Laras Asri.

Mehboob Ahmad is a 35-year-old citizen of Afghanistan. Ahmad was detained by U.S. military for approximately five months from June to November 2003. He was held at various locations in Afghanistan, including the Gardez firebase and the Bagram Air Base. During his detention, Ahmad was tortured and subjected to otherwise cruel and degrading treatment by U.S. military personnel.

More than a year since his release, Ahmad still suffers from leg pain and sometimes cannot move his limbs when he awakes, as a result of the physical abuse and torture he suffered while in U.S. custody. Painful techniques used on Ahmad included hanging him upside-down from the ceiling with a chain, and repeatedly pushing and kicking him while he knelt on a wooden pole with his hands chained to the ceiling.

Ahmad was also sexually and psychologically traumatized by U.S. military personnel. He was forced to strip and stay naked for long periods of time, was probed anally and was threatened with a snarling and barking dog at close range. Interrogators taunted Ahmad by directing insults at his mother and sister and implying that soldiers would rape his wife. He was also threatened with transport to Guantánamo.

Like other detainees, Ahmad was subjected to extreme sensory deprivation and isolation. He was forced to wear sound-blocking earphones; he was forced to wear black, opaque goggles almost continuously for more than a month, and was not allowed to speak with other detainees for the five months that he was in custody.

As the C.I.A. captured and interrogated other Al Qaeda figures, it established a protocol of psychological coercion. The program tied together many strands of the agency’s secret history of Cold War-era experiments in behavioral science. (In June, the C.I.A. declassified long-held secret documents known as the Family Jewels, which shed light on C.I.A. drug experiments on rats and monkeys, and on the infamous case of Frank R. Olson, an agency employee who leaped to his death from a hotel window in 1953, nine days after he was unwittingly drugged with LSD.) The C.I.A.’s most useful research focussed on the surprisingly powerful effects of psychological manipulations, such as extreme sensory deprivation. According to Alfred McCoy, a history professor at the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, who has written a history of the C.I.A.’s experiments in coercing subjects, the agency learned that “if subjects are confined without light, odors, sound, or any fixed references of time and place, very deep breakdowns can be provoked.”

Agency scientists found that in just a few hours some subjects suspended in water tanks—or confined in isolated rooms wearing blacked-out goggles and earmuffs—regressed to semi-psychotic states. Moreover, McCoy said, detainees become so desperate for human interaction that “they bond with the interrogator like a father, or like a drowning man having a lifesaver thrown at him. If you deprive people of all their senses, they’ll turn to you like their daddy.” McCoy added that “after the Cold War we put away those tools. There was bipartisan reform. We backed away from those dark days. Then, under the pressure of the war on terror, they didn’t just bring back the old psychological techniques—they perfected them.”

The C.I.A.’s interrogation program is remarkable for its mechanistic aura. “It’s one of the most sophisticated, refined programs of torture ever,” an outside expert familiar with the protocol said. “At every stage, there was a rigid attention to detail. Procedure was adhered to almost to the letter. There was top-down quality control, and such a set routine that you get to the point where you know what each detainee is going to say, because you’ve heard it before. It was almost automated. People were utterly dehumanized. People fell apart. It was the intentional and systematic infliction of great suffering masquerading as a legal process. It is just chilling.”

Among the few C.I.A. officials who knew the details of the detention and interrogation program, there was a tense debate about where to draw the line in terms of treatment. John Brennan, [former CIA director George] Tenet’s former chief of staff, said, “It all comes down to individual moral barometers.” Waterboarding, in particular, troubled many officials, from both a moral and a legal perspective. Until 2002, when Bush Administration lawyers asserted that waterboarding was a permissible interrogation technique for “enemy combatants,” it was classified as a form of torture, and treated as a serious criminal offense. American soldiers were court-martialled for waterboarding captives as recently as the Vietnam War.

Yeah, but will any of it lead to organ failure? Survey says: "We do not torture."

To the attention of the Prime- Minister of the
Government of Czech Republic, Mr Mirek Topolanek

Athens, 21.03.2008

The Communist Party of Greece vehemently condemns the decision of Prague Court of Czech Republic setting out of law the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic upon the accusation that “they support a collective ownership of means of production”. This new provocative decision is added to a plethora/ range of measures and violent actions against the communist, labour and youth anti-imperialist movement.

Both the initial governmental decision in October 2006 banning the action of the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM) and the new Court decision aim at preventing the avant-guard fight of the communist and labour movement for the rights of the working people and the youth, for the basic democratic liberties against the establishment of the US “anti-missile shield”.

This deplorable decision is a part of a wider EU anticommunist campaign which is now in progress, criminalizing the communist ideology and the anti-imperialist action, as well as the fight for the socialist transformation of society. It clearly turns against the democratic rights and peoples’ liberties. It proves that the populist declarations of the EU and the bourgeois state included in the “Euro- constitution” – Treaty of Lisbon- are of no value. It constitutes a provocation against the movement of internationalist solidarity expressed to the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM).

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) clearly expresses its unconditional support and solidarity with the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM).

The Communist Party of Greece calls for the immediate repeal of the decision of the Court of Prague setting the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM) out of law, as well as the cancellation of any kind of actions against the communist and labour movement.

The peoples’ right to decide on a social and political system is non-negotiable!

Το ΚΚΕ καταδικάζει κατηγορηματικά την απόφαση του δικαστηρίου της Πράγας, της Τσεχικής Δημοκρατίας, που θέτει εκτός νόμου την Κομμουνιστική Ένωση Νεολαίας Τσεχίας ( KSM ) γιατί «τάσσεται υπέρ της κοινωνικοποίησης των μέσων παραγωγής». Η νέα προκλητική αυτή απόφαση προστίθεται στα πολλά μέτρα και σε πράξεις βίας ενάντια στους κομμουνιστές. Σηματοδοτεί την ένταση της επίθεσης ενάντια στο κομμουνιστικό, εργατικό και νεολαιίστικο, αντιιμπεριαλιστικό κίνημα.

Η απόφαση για την απαγόρευση της δράσης της Κομμουνιστικής Ένωσης Νεολαίας Τσεχίας από τον Οκτώβρη του 2006, στοχεύει να ανακόψει την πρωτοπόρα πάλη του κομμουνιστικού και εργατικού κινήματος, για τα δικαιώματα των εργαζομένων και της νεολαίας, για στοιχειώδεις δημοκρατικές ελευθερίες, ενάντια στην εγκατάσταση της «αντιπυραυλικής ασπίδας» των ΗΠΑ.

Η απαράδεκτη αυτή απόφαση εντάσσεται στη γενικότερη αντικομμουνιστική εκστρατεία της ΕΕ που βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη, ποινικοποιεί την κομμουνιστική ιδεολογία και την αντιιμπεριαλιστική δράση, την πάλη για το σοσιαλιστικό μετασχηματισμό της κοινωνίας. Στρέφεται ευθέως ενάντια στα δημοκρατικά δικαιώματα και τις λαϊκές ελευθερίες. Αποδεικνύει πόση αξία έχουν οι δημαγωγικές διακηρύξεις της ΕΕ και του αστικού κράτους που περιλαμβάνονται στην «ευρωσυνθήκη» - τη Συνθήκη της Λισσαβόνας. Αποτελεί πρόκληση για το τεράστιο κίνημα διεθνιστικής αλληλεγγύης που εκφράστηκε στην Κομμουνιστική Ένωση Νεολαίας Τσεχίας.

Το ΚΚΕ εκφράζει την αμέριστη συμπαράσταση και αλληλεγγύη του στην Κομμουνιστική Ένωση Νεολαίας Τσεχίας.

Το ΚΚΕ απαιτεί την άμεση ανάκληση της απαράδεκτης απόφασης του δικαστηρίου της Πράγας που θέτει εκτός νόμου τη Κομμουνιστική Ένωση Νεολαίας Τσεχίας και κάθε ενέργειας ενάντια στο κομμουνιστικό και εργατικό κίνημα.

Είναι αδιαπραγμάτευτο το δικαίωμα των λαών να επιλέγουν το κοινωνικό και πολιτικό σύστημα στο οποίο θέλουν να ζούν.

To the attention of the Prime- Minister of the
Government of Czech Republic, Mr Mirek Topolanek

Athens, 21.03.2008

The Communist Party of Greece vehemently condemns the decision of Prague Court of Czech Republic setting out of law the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic upon the accusation that “they support a collective ownership of means of production”. This new provocative decision is added to a plethora/ range of measures and violent actions against the communist, labour and youth anti-imperialist movement.

Both the initial governmental decision in October 2006 banning the action of the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM) and the new Court decision aim at preventing the avant-guard fight of the communist and labour movement for the rights of the working people and the youth, for the basic democratic liberties against the establishment of the US “anti-missile shield”.

This deplorable decision is a part of a wider EU anticommunist campaign which is now in progress, criminalizing the communist ideology and the anti-imperialist action, as well as the fight for the socialist transformation of society. It clearly turns against the democratic rights and peoples’ liberties. It proves that the populist declarations of the EU and the bourgeois state included in the “Euro- constitution” – Treaty of Lisbon- are of no value. It constitutes a provocation against the movement of internationalist solidarity expressed to the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM).

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) clearly expresses its unconditional support and solidarity with the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM).

The Communist Party of Greece calls for the immediate repeal of the decision of the Court of Prague setting the Communist Youth Union, Czech Republic (KSM) out of law, as well as the cancellation of any kind of actions against the communist and labour movement.

The peoples’ right to decide on a social and political system is non-negotiable!

Kunjungan Mahasiswa ke Pabrik

Rabu (30/1/08), Kelompok Studi Manajemen (KSM) mengadakan kegiatan yang bernama “Studi Industri 2008”. Kegiatan ini merupakan program yang tergolong baru dari KSM. Melalui kegiatan ini, peserta kegiatan diajak untuk melihat secara langsung bagaimana cara produksi, distribusi dan keberlangsungan suatu perusahaan. Peserta kegiatan diajak untuk mengunjungi pabrik perakitan motor dan kaca PT.Tossa Shakti, Kaliwungu, Kabupaten Kendal, Jawa Tengah dan pabrik pembotolan (bottling) PT Coca-cola Indonesia, Ungaran, Kabupaten Semarang.

Peserta Studi Industri ini berjumlah sekitar 70 orang, beranjak dari Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW) Salatiga, menuju lokasi dengan menggunakan dua bus pariwisata. Meskipun ada keterlambatan waktu pemberangkatan, acara ini tetap berlangsung dengan lancar.

Pada kegiatan yang pertama, peserta diajak mengunjungi pabrik perakitan motor dan kaca PT Tossa Shakti. Di pabrik ini, peserta diberikan penjelasan mengenai sejarah perusahaan, cara produksi serta saluran distribusi yang dilakukan perusahaan dalam kegiatan operasionalnya. Peserta juga diajak untuk melihat secara langsung proses pembuatan kaca, sedangkan untuk proses perakitan motor peserta belum diperbolehkan untuk melihat secara langsung, karena bersifat rahasia dalam arti hanya pihak internal yang boleh mengetahui prosesnya.

Setelah selesai melihat dan bertanya-tanya mengenai proses pembuatan kaca, peserta kembali melanjutkan kegiatannya yaitu perjalanan menuju pabrik pembotolan PT Coca-cola Indonesia. Sama halnya seperti di PT Tossa Shakti, peserta kembali diberikan penjelasan mengenai sejarah perusahaan, bahan baku apa saja yang dibutuhkan dalam membuat minuman Coca-cola, serta saluran distribusinya. Kemudian peserta juga diperlihatkan secara langsung proses pembotolan dan pengemasan botol. Di pabrik ini sudah disediakan secara khusus lorong untuk melihat proses produksinya, sehingga peserta dapat dengan leluasa melihat-lihat tanpa mengganggu karyawan yang sedang bekerja.

Satuan tugas (satgas) Studi Industri 2008 dikomandoi oleh Oscar Nugroho. Hanya dengan anggota sebanyak tujuh orang, kegiatan ini dapat dikategorikan sukses, karena tidak ada hambatan yang berarti. Dalam mempersiapkan kegiatan, faktor kerjasama dan kesolidan antar satgas sangat berpengaruh dalam mendukung kegiatan tersebut. Kegiatan ini juga membuktikan bahwa dengan satgas yang sedikit, kegiatan juga dapat berlangsung dengan lancar.

We want to inform you that on March 19, 2008 at 9:00 in Hybernska street 18 (1^st floor) in Prague a trial that shall decide on the legal or illegal status of the Communist Youth Union (KSM) which was banned by the decision of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic in October 2006 will start one year and six months after the KSM filed an action against the decision of the Ministry of Interior and only 3 days before the 8^th Congress of the Communist Youth Union (KSM) which shall take place on March 22, 2008 in Prague. Was it a coincidence that the Ministry of Interior started this process of illegalization of the KSM just few days after the previous 7^th Congress of this political organization of young people and the trial starts 3 days before the forthcoming congress of the KSM?

The attack of the Ministry of Interior against the legal existence of the KSM started in November 2005 under a pretext that the goals of the KSM´s activity interfere with an area reserved to activities of political parties that was, according to the interpretation of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic, excluded from the intervention and activities of civic associations. This argument was completely baseless because according to the Czech legal system the exclusive area of the political parties is defined just as a participation in the parliamentary elections. The KSM did not participate in the parliamentary elections.

The second line of attack of the Ministry of Interior targeted openly the Marxist character of the KSM. The Ministry of Interior tried to coerce the KSM to renounce its political program, communist identity, goals, and theoretical basis in Marx, Engels and Lenin, that is Marxism as a whole.

During a following debate between the KSM and the Ministry of Interior the Ministry dropped all its originally used arguments and in its final decision on the banning of the KSM at the end of 2006 the Ministry used another argument: a programmatic goal of the KSM to replace private ownership of means of production with a collective ownership of means of production.

The KSM resolutely rejected the anticommunist and antidemocratic policy and measures of the Czech state power, organized a large information campaign in the Czech Republic and abroad, filed an action against the decision of the Ministry and intensified its public activities. In this critical period the KSM has launched among other activities a very successful campaign against a plan to construct a US military base in the Czech Republic (the KSM´s petition which is the biggest of the petitions against the US military base has been signed by 150 000 of inhabitants), the KSM developed its struggle against anticommunism, its struggle in defence of the free education for all (now again threatened with another plan to introduce fees for university studies) and started public activities against a disastrous social and economic policies of the current right wing government.

We would like to ask you kindly for you attention to the serious development in the Czech Republic where anticommunism and violations of fundamental democratic rights are a part of the state policy.
