July has arrived in Prague, and as well within just a few days, the U.S. Secretary Of State, Condoleeza Rice is expected to attend discussions with the intentions of signing the treaties involved in the installation of a U.S. Missile Defense Radar Base in the Czech Republic.

The length and exact term of "Condi's" visit has been reported to be on the morning of July the 8th and stay between the 10th.

If our government here in the Czech Republic thinks that it's citizens will remain passive, quiet and indifferent "neteční" during it's ignorant and defiant pursuit of a rapid signing of the Missile Defense & Radar Agreement, truly they have made an unprecedented mistake.

The people have remained against the agreement for two years without change, and the government has also not changed in it's stance of ignorance of the people, citizens and the majority "Czech Vote". We can voice our final words once more to Parliament via elected and responsible spokespeople for the "No To Bases" Iniciative, "Ne Zakladnam".

We will demonstrate in protest of "Condi" and the Radar, On Tuesday, 8th of July, in Wenceslas Square, from 18:00 (6pm).

Today I went to the conference for the last time. I can only take so much of it. I attended one full day and two half days. And today I was asked to chair the morning session. When the organiser came over to ask me, I thought, FUCK, he wants me to chair one of the afternoon sessions, but luckily it was the one I was planning on attending anyway. And I chaired it quite nicely. I'm proud of myself. And my talk yesterday wasn't that bad either. I think I made it a bit more interesting than I had done last year when I presented a paper in Greece. So I'm proud of myself for that as well. But WHAT THE FUCK's with those nerves I get before the presentation? What the hell is that all about? I mean, what's the worse that can happen? I hope one day I'll be able to stand up in front of a crowd, say Maracana, and not bat an eyelid for nerves. It's ridiculous. I KNOW it is, but I still feel the nerves.

Some of the stuff at the conference was interesting. Some of it too theoretical and you need to know alot of music theory, ontology (I still don't know what it means), psychology and philosophy of music. There seems to be a 60-40 mix of musicians/composers v. computer people, but even the computer people have largely a musical background.

After the morning sessions today, I decided to get some lunch and come and eat it here at the hotel. So I went to the super market and got some traditional Danish fish cakes, a pot of fresh crab salad, some sliced cheese and some of that sliced brown bread that they eat up here which you only find in health food shops in London. And I paid using my Lloyds TSB debit card and even got cash back. Things have changed from the last time I was here, in Aarhus, in 1992, bloody hell, 16 years ago. I wonder what's happened to those friends I had from Denmark, Soren, Kim and Klaus. It would be interesting to find out. Hey guys, anyone reading this blog? Remember me? We worked together at Cafe Pasta? They were quite a laugh and I remember Kim in particular as having a similar sense of humour as me.

We were working in the kitchen together as cooks and we used to drink soft drinks straight out of the can, all us cooks and there was a time when it became a fashionable prank to play on someone, make a hole in the can just below the pull ring, after the other guy (the "user" we would say nowadays, ha, ha) has drunk enough to get it below the level of where you're gonna make the hole. You know what I mean? Then you work away, ignoring the other guy, but keeping an eye out for when he's gonna take a slug from it, and... Oh man, I'm laughing just thinking about it now. Still funny after so many years... And what an environment to do it in. Especially on a busy Friday night. Would drive some people nuts. And Kim was the master. You'd get a bunch of tired cooks and dishwashers finishing their shifts with coke stains down their shirts.

But I digress, 'coz all I wanted to say was that I felt particularly proud going into the super market and buying some of the local produce and then paying for it and asking the instore fish monger what is in the fish cakes and asking the lady at the till if she speaks English and if she accepts my form of payment. But I also feel proud 'coz that's my dinner sorted as well, since I've got left overs and will come back to the hotel room and eat it while watching some of that stupid champions league final (as far as I'm concerned, when Arsenal lost it to Barcelona a few years ago, that competition lost all importance... :-)).

So now for some serious tourism. I'm going to Christiania today, although the reports from some of the other conference delegates are a bit grim, i.e. they push drugs on you, including cocaine, everything is expensive... etc. Will see. Also the river boat and the two mermaids, because if you don't know it, there are 2 now, one of which is genetically modified. And I ain't joking...

And tomorrow I'll pop over to Sweden. Up to now by the way, yes, I've been loving the place, despite my cynical comedy above. The cycling is crazy, so many of them. Looks great, but I don't think I'll be renting a bike or using one of those free ones, unless I don't go to Malmo tomorrow. Skal!

Il progetto statunitense di scudo antimissilistico in Europa Orientale, i cui costi ammonterebbero a circa 5 miliardi di dollari, ha suscitato non poche perplessità anche negli ambienti istituzionali europei, e tedeschi in particolare.
Ad iniziare dal ministro degli Esteri, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, che in un’intervista pubblicata dall’Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung il 19 marzo 2007, ha avvertito Washington di non cercare di dividere l’Europa in “vecchia” e “nuova”. Anche il presidente del SPD, Kurt Beck, ha criticato gli Stati Uniti per il loro tentativo di cooptare gli europei in chiave antirussa, dichiarando alla Bild che il suo partito non vuole una nuova corsa agli armamenti in stile Guerra Fredda.
Lo stesso ex leader socialdemocratico Gerhard Schroeder, dopo più di un anno di assenza dalle scene, è riapparso per affermare che “gli Stati Uniti stanno tentando un ridicolo accerchiamento della Russia che è tutto tranne che nell’interesse dell’Europa”, ossia quello di “collegare più strettamente la Russia alle strutture europee” (gasdotto North Stream docet).
Dal canto suo Joshka Fisher, il verde già Ministro degli Esteri nel governo Schroeder, ha smesso la veste del pacifista ed invocato un esercito comune europeo per affrancarsi dalla tutela a stelle e strisce. “A mio avviso si tratta di un errore” ha infine chiosato il Ministro della Difesa Franz Jung.
Nonostante il Parlamento Europeo abbia invitato il Consiglio dell’Unione Europea e l’Alto Rappresentante per la politica estera, Javier Solana, ad occuparsi direttamente della questione, nulla è stato fatto sotto questo riguardo, contraddicendo nei fatti le ambizioni dichiarate dell’Unione Europea di definire una propria politica di difesa ed istituire un esercito cosiddetto europeo.
Nel frattempo, fra le parti direttamente interessate i negoziati sono proseguiti.
Dopo che nell’autunno 2007 l’esecutivo dei gemelli Kaczynski è stato rimpiazzato dal governo di Donald Tusk, il nuovo ministro degli Esteri polacco Radek Sikorski ha dichiarato che il suo governo doveva riconsiderare i vari costi e rischi dell’operazione, affermando inoltre che il progetto ha origini unicamente statunitensi e che i polacchi non si sentono affatto minacciati dall’Iran. “Dobbiamo discutere a fondo non solo dei benefici, ma anche dei rischi. Non può essere che siamo gli unici a pagare dei costi”. La virata polacca, più che un ripensamento della propria politica estera, può essere letta sotto la lente del pragmatismo. Varsavia sta infatti negoziando con gli Stati Uniti degli aiuti per la formazione e l’equipaggiamento del suo esercito, ed il passo indietro sullo scudo potrebbe mascherare la volontà di trattare da una posizione più forte. Sikorski non ne ha fatto mistero quando ha affermato di attendersi un’offerta statunitense tale da convincere la maggioranza del Parlamento, visto che esso dovrà comunque ratificare ogni eventuale accordo.
Questioni non dissimili da quelle affrontate durante i negoziati intercorsi con la Repubblica Ceca, dove dovrebbe essere ricollocato il radar attualmente in uso sull’atollo di Kwajalein nell’Oceano Pacifico. Le richieste formulate agli statunitensi dal Primo Ministro ceco Mirek Topolanek riguardano il raggiungimento di un accordo per facilitare le procedure dei visti di ingresso e, soprattutto, la partecipazione ad almeno cinque progetti di ricerca in campo militare. Probabilmente per fronteggiare adeguatamente quella che Topolanek ha definito – in un discorso pronunciato alla Heritage Foundation di Washington - la “rinnovata politica imperialista “ della Russia, che “utilizzando una aspra retorica, vuole spargere i semi della confusione tra gli alleati occidentali al fine di indebolire la NATO”. Senza accorgersi del proprio involontario umorismo, Topolanek ha quindi concluso il proprio intervento affermando che “è un imperativo storico della nazione ceca non diventare ancora un burattino di interessi militari stranieri”.
In occasione del recente Vertice NATO di Bucarest, le diplomazie statunitensi e ceche hanno comunicato la conclusione dei negoziati, e che la firma del relativo accordo (e di quello che regola lo stazionamento delle truppe americane nella Repubblica Ceca) sarebbe giunta entro il mese di maggio. A fine aprile è poi giunto l’annuncio di uno slittamento a giugno, causato da impedimenti “logistici” del Segretario di Stato USA Condoleezza Rice. Il trattato sarà successivamente sottoposto alla per nulla scontata ratifica parlamentare ed infine dovrà essere controfirmato dal Presidente ceco Vaclav Klaus.

Candidatul PNŢCD pentru postul de primar al Sibiului şi vicepreşedintele partidului, Marius Albin Marinescu a sesizat duminică, BEM Sibiu, cerând ca FDGR să îşi retragă toate materialele electorale pentru că numele primarului Klaus Iohannis apare scris cu litera „J”, conform unui comunicat de presă, trimis duminică, de organizaţia PNŢCD locală. Numele complet şi real al candidatului FDGR este Iohannis Klaus Werner. Aşa îl are înscris în cartea de identitate şi aşa va fi tipărit pe buletinul de vot. ”Consider că aceste materiale electorale încalcă legea, deoarece se face propagandă electorală sub un nume fals, diferit ca grafie de cel oficial cu care persoana este înregistrată la Serviciul de Evidenţă a Populaţiei, această acţiune având ca scop dezinformarea şi derutarea electoratului”, a argumentat candidatul Marinescu, de profesie jurnalist.

Das mit dem Blog auf einer eigenen Seite hab ich jetzt auch geklärt. Ich hoffe, dass es noch dieses Wochenende klappt. Ich bin zwar der komplette Anfänger wenn es um so was geht, aber es scheint ja nicht allzu kompliziert zu sein. Ich würde dann irgendwelche Werbung einbinden, entweder per Google oder falls jemand eine andere Idee hat raus damit. Vielleicht will ja auch Huxley, Klaus oder Abiatti oder sonst ein Glücksspielzubehör Hersteller hier werben. Ich würde dann sogar eine extra Serie starten wie man die Geräte am besten manipuliert. Nein Spass beiseite, wenn jemand dann dort werben will gerne.

Mit dem eingenommenen Geld würde ich dann so verfahren. Wenn in einem Monat genügend zusammen kommt, dann wird das irgendwie ausgespielt. Wenn nicht, dann wird halt gesammelt bis ein paar Hundert zusammen gekommen sind. Leider kann ich es gar nicht einschätzen was sich damit verdienen lässt. Der Gewinner darf dann wählen ob er es versäuft oder verpokert. Vor allem im Kasino muss er ein Hemd oder so was Anhaben mit Falschspieler und Beweisfotos oder Videos muss es natürlich auch für den Blog geben. Was haltet ihr davon?

So aber jetzt zu Pokerolymp.de? Habt ihr euch nicht auch schon mal gefragt mit was die ihr Geld verdienen wollen? Aus zuverlässiger Quelle habe ich jetzt erfahren, dass die Seite eigentlich nur einem Zweck dient. Jetzt viele User zu generieren und dann verkauft zu werden. Man hat sich da sicher einiges erhofft. Aber leider scheint es nicht so zu laufen wie gewünscht. Entweder hat man nicht genügend User oder nicht genügend Interessenten oder was auch immer. Die Werbung bei 2+2 scheint immer stärker zu werden, und mir hat jemand erzählt, dass man dort kaum noch was negatives über Pokerolymp schreiben darf. Wie stark das wirklich stimmt kann ich allerdings nicht beurteilen, da ich selbst kaum bei 2+2 lese und wenn dann nicht in den deutschen Foren. Auf jeden Fall sollte die Seite schon längst verkauft sein, und da sie es nicht ist fängt auch mittlerweile das Murren unter den Teilhabern und die ersten haben schon die Schnauze voll. Da hat sich wohl einer mit einer Web 2.0 Community übernommen.

Ich wage daher mal folgende Vorraussage. In nächster Zeit wird die Seite an einen "geheimen" Investor verkauft. Es wird kein Name und nichts genannt. Die Firma sitzt dann irgendwo auf einer kleinen Insel und niemand wird wissen wer die neue Pokerolymp Seite betreibt. Es wird dann Werbung dazu kommen für unterschiedliche Poker- und vielleicht auch online Glücksspielräume. Aber in Wirklichkeit wird sich nicht viel ändern. Selbst die Betreiber werden die gleichen bleiben. Nur können sie jetzt mit online Werbung geld verdienen und schön jedem ihrer Mitgliedern auf sie zugeschnittene Werbung liefern. Wo wir dann wieder dabei wären, nach Außen den Schein des Ehrlichen zu pflegen und in Wirklichkeit seine User doch nur mit falschen Tatsachen zu täuschen. Ob es wirklich so sein wird, weiß ich nicht. Was ich nur sicher weiß, dass viele intern mit der Entwicklung nicht zufrieden sind. Und wie schnell so was gehen kann hat man ja schon an der PokerAcademy gesehen. Schnell mal viel Versprochen, wenig gehalten und die User dann zu Pokerstars geschoben. Blos haben die sich anscheinend noch etwas blöder angestellt. Denn das einzige was sie bekommen haben war wohl ein Job. Aber für einen arbeitslosen Hamburger Grafiker ist das doch auch schon was.

So aber jetzt genug über die anderen Gelästert. Und eigentlich sind das ja alles kleine Fische, die jetzt halt das Internet benutzen wollen um reich zu werden. Da gibt es ein paar Profispieler mit ganz anderen Hintergrundgeschichten. Aber dazu ein andres mal mehr.

Hier noch ein Bild von Klaus - mit Polaroidkamera (einer SX-70) geschossen - in der Hansestraße, wo er mit Mekio und Sebastian eine Weile gewohnt hat.

Zum Glück ist Klaus' Bundeswehrausbildung lange vorbei. Weniger schön ist, daß man bald keine Polaroid Bilder mehr knipsen kann. Wer was dagegen tun will, kann auf diesen Link klicken.

Sicherlich eine der umstrittensten Schauspieler-Persönlichkeiten, aber auch eine der faszinierendsten. Kinski war Exzentriker, liebenswürdig sanft bis fürchterlichen zornig. Wüste öffentliche Beschimpfungen und Wutausbrüche waren nicht selten.
Er war auf die Darstellung psychopathischer und getriebener Charaktere spezialisiert, arbeitete lange Jahre mit dem Regisseur Werner Herzog zusammen.

Dennoch schaffte es Kinski - zu Recht - mit Platz 45 unter die 50 größten Schauspieler aller Zeiten. Eine Rangliste, die die BBC 2006 veröffentlichte. Kein weiterer Deutscher war in der Auswahl.
Klaus Kinski [Klaus Günter Karl Nakszyński] lebte ...

... von 18. Oktober 1926 bis 23. November 1991.
In seinem Haus bei Los Angeles starb Kinski mit 65 Jahren an einem Herzinfarkt. Auch wenn es ja eigentlich nicht in sein Leben paßt, er starb "eines völlig natürlichen, friedlichen Todes im Bett".
Seine Asche wurde von seiner Tochter Nastassja bei San Francisco in den Pazifik gestreut.

Der letzte vollendete Film von Klaus Kinski ist "Kinski Paganini". Kinski spielte die Hauptrolle, übernahm Regie, Buch und Schnitt. Dazu ein kurzer Trailer:

Der Film spielt im Europa des 19. Jahrhunderts. Er zeigt Kinskis Sichtweise und Darstellung der Person Niccolò Paganinis (Violinist und Komponist).
Ausgangspunkt ist ein Konzert, in dem die Wirkung Paganinis Musik auf das weibliche Geschlecht deutlich gemacht wird. Es folgt eine Bilderflut, hauptsächlich mit der unersättlichen Begierde Paganinis nach Frauen und seinem langsamen Verfall.
Der umjubelte Musiker ist chronisch pleite und sein Lebensstil ist gerade der Kirche ein Dorn im Auge. Der Film geht nicht biographisch vor.
Durch die Person Kinskis als Hauptdarsteller sicherleich kaum besser zu besetzen!

Klaus Nomi - Simple Man

[ Sein Künstlername Nomi leitete sich aus der lateinischen Vorsilbe 'omni' (mehrere verschiedene oder alle Dinge in einem) ab, mit der er auf seinen Musikstil anspielte ]

I think that the media should be forgiven for violating the number-one rule of news reporting. Simply because all 281 legislators violated the number one rule that make humans human, and all rules that make lawmakers the representatives of normal people in the Parliament.

Opposition Social Democrats accused the senior governing Civic Democrats of pressuring one of the MP's who later collapsed. So what? This whole election was affected by lobbying the whole time.

Today was supposed to be the day when the bicameral parliament elected the President of the Czech Republic.  However most of the day was taken up by the politicians arguing over how the voting system should work.  (How transparent the voting should be, what colour stamps etc...)

To become president you need a majority of politicians to vote for you in both houses of parliament.  This race has been close and annoyingly (here's a fucking surprise) the upper house voted for incumbent Vaclav Klaus while the lower house went for his sole rival Jan Svenar.

If such a stalemate ensues then the next stage is for the entire parliament to vote in a joint session, in which the winner requires only a simple majority.  Which begs the question: why didn't they do that in the first place?

As to who wins: I don't give a fuck - I'm leaving soon anyway.  Klaus may have some nutty views on environmentalism but he is at least partially responsible for making his country the most affluent of the former communist states (along with the Czechs' prosperous history and the fact that the poorer half of Czechoslovakia split off).

And although you can say the Czech system is ridiculously bureaucratic, at least it stops parliament being too totalitarian (see UK Parliament vis a vis Iraq War).

Churchill was right: democracy is the worst form of government, except all of the others.

The third round of the first vote took place today. President Vaclav Klaus got 139 votes, he needed 140 to win the elections. Three legislators were absent today, all of them due to medical conditions. One MP for Social Democrats is said to have collapsed after some tough negotiations with the governing Civic Democrats (ODS). The ODS party denied any involvement and said that this accusation is a dirty lie.

The result of the above is that the new president has not been elected. The second vote will have to take place in which some parties might nominate new candidate(s).

Thousands of people have joined internet discussions (especially on news servers) and criticized politicians for staging this absurd comedy... 

The second vote is to take place on February 15.

The open vote took place. The first round of the first vote had no winner because in order to win the candidate needs to receive more than 50 percent. The second round of the first vote took place immediately afterwards. BUT-- as it was almost nine p.m. and since it had been agreed to end the session at nine, the session did indeed end. There were some attempts to prolong the session but most legislators behaved like idiots. They argued about procedural changes, they insisted on voting whether they should vote on the prolongation of the session, the parties accused one another of causing the deadlock (see post below).

So, one huge far-from-being-over deadlock, and foreign observers might think the Czech political scene is pretty fucked up, and they would be almost right. The selection of the next president is a political battle in which people, voters and taxpayers can only stand in distance, on the horizon even, and watch and wait.

To make it short: the parties that support the open vote principle want everyone to know how each legislators voted so that traitors can be identified, whereas the party that supports the secret vote would like to keep the names secret because the party lobbyists are said to have convinced those potential traitors from other parties to vote for their candidate, who is  president Vaclav Klaus...

I swear, if we don't have the direct vote by 2013, I will go and live naked in the bushes on U.S. Virgin Islands.
