I suppose it isn't at all surprising that he favors having the community deleted, presumably right along with all the evidence of the BLATANT DEATH THREATS that he posted across state lines just over a year ago.  Mostly I'd bet he's just stewing over  there being an actual mod running psychonaut now, who presumably won't let him suck cock in exchange for special treatment.

No, not Jim Hensen...I'm talking about Kermit Love.  Kermit just passed away at age 91 as a result of congestive heart failure.  Though he denies being the source of Kermit the Frog's name, he was very involved in the design of similar puppet-type characters.  Love designed the costumes and puppets for Mr. Snuffleupagus, Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster, as well the Snuggle Bear from the fabric softener commercials.  Yet, he is best known for designing the 8-foot 2-inch yellow feathered costume worn by Big Bird of Sesame Street.

Small piece of trivia: He appeared on Sesame Street as Willy, the neighborhood's resident hot dog vendor.

R.I.P. to the puppet master!

Almost all advertising that is done for products that are dangerous for the environment or that are non sustainable, focuses on promoting there sustainability. Car advertisers are leaders in this segment and every ad makes it sound like you're making the air cleaner with their engine. Honda does it well when acknowledging the problem, not claiming it doesn't exist. But many just shows shot of beautiful nature and some stats about reduction.

The main rhetorical problem they're facing, bottled tap water, bananas and other companies that ship shit worldwide, is that consumption in itself isn't sustainable. One's ad can't claim that consuming a product is better for the environment than not using it at all. Consumption creates waste. Driving a car is bad. Driving 4 people is less bad comparing it to driving 4 separate cars, but it's still bad.

A second rhetorical problem, is that some claim to help stopping climate change. This would be a catastrophe since it would fuck up the whole ecosystem, the climate has always been changing. What we shouldn't do is speeding things up, if we like the climate now, let's slow it down a bit.

And on the topic of waste. Companies compete to create the most sustainable products, without knowing why or in what purpose. If creating products with sustainable materials, it really doesn't matter if it's to be thrown away the next day, it might be slightly better but the same enemy to the environment. I think creating products that the consumer wants to keep and not consume is sustainability. Advertisers should help their clients with their products rather than their advertising on this subject. The consumer, with his mindset being affected by an extreme global climate change awareness campaign needs not to feel green but for everyone's sake to be green.

So, I didn't watch the Muppets when I was growing up.  We lived in a small town with no cable, only 3 fuzzy networks from rabbit ears but without muppets.

But for whatever reason I once watched Kermit sing a song about women (female pigs ? - I don't know)    -  can't live with em, can't live without em.

Tonight I keep hearing that song.   Guess I should add "can't sleep without em."

Wikipedia also says that in The Muppet Movie, Miss Piggy has just won a beauty contest (Miss Bogen County) when she first meets Kermit and joins the Muppets.  Which reminds me, for obvious reasons, of a "beauty contest" held in my hometown every year  - Miss Hamerica.  It wasn't a pig pageant - well it was - but it was for human females.  Very weird.  Tried to google "Miss Hamerica" to verify the existence of the contest for you but alas my hometown apparently has not been introduced to the Internets. 

Rowlf:Evenin' Rowlf. Rowlf the Dog. Sit yourself down.
Kermit: Kermit. Kermit the Frog.
Rowlf: Please to meet ya.
(Rowlf plays a rapid musical scale across the piano's keys)

Well, they're not official Hogwarts robes, they're more like graduation robes, really similar to graduation robes actually, University of Maryland robes to be exact, but they're Hufflepuff to me!

Those are the most Hufflepuffing hufflepuff robes that I have ever hufflepuffed seen in my hufflepuffing life.

Actually, they belong to my brother who just graduated from UMCP this past week, and the yellow represents the college of computer, mathematical and physical sciences, not Hufflepuff. Sadly. But, when while he's in Alabama for the summer and Cornell for grad school, I plan on stealing them and wearing them to the HBP movie release, and the Breaking Dawn book release. More on that later, maybe.

So yes, one of the main reasons I so greatly enjoyed the graduation festivities of the past two days besides the very well-organized ceremonies, Carl Bernstein, the pleasant reception thrown by the astronomy department, sitting in the Comcast center, and my brother's amazing speech, was the fact that I felt like I was attending the Hogwarts opening feast.

Here we have the students entering the Great Hall, dressed in their colors and sitting according to house. You can see the prefects leading them in and showing them where to sit (Curran was luck enough to have this job).

And this was the staff table with the house flags in the background.

Ah! And here's the staff now, standing proudly in their wizarding robes. Curran, as head boy, was granted the honor of sitting among them for this opening feast (second from the left). You can also see Dumbledore himself in his red Gryffindor robes second from the right, although he looks a bit tired. He'd just gotten his beard cut before the feast and it took a lot out of him.

So much so, in fact, that he did not have enough energy to make the opening speech! Luckily, Curran stood up without a moment's hesitation and said, "Excuse me, I'm head boy!" and made the speech instead.

Oh, look! There he is now! What a fine lad.

Somehow, Trelawny predicted that Dumbledore would fall short, so Curran made sure to reserve us front row seats for his speech.

After the feast, we attended a reception in the astronomy tower held by Professor Sinistra. There I saw a different version of the famous Weasley clock:

I also saw someone sporting the brand-new ravenclaw robes, and I must say, they are classy:

And did you know that Jim Henson was a wizard? I didn't, but I guess it makes sense. I mean, how else could have gotten a frog and a pig to talk and fall in love? Hogwarts is very proud of Mr. Henson. So much so that a "Special Services to the School" award could not suffice. They gave him and Kermie an entire statue!

That said, I quite enjoyed my visit to Hogwarts, and I plan on returning soon.

On a side note, here is a photo that Alex requested I post. My brother told me that this one guy at the reception was wearing Cambridge robes, so I tried to be sneaky and snag a picture from far across the room. I was sure he didn't notice, but this picture shows him looking right at the camera, and it's kind of creepy... especially since he's giving me one of those weird side looks. weird.

We also spoke about the final checklist to make sure we had everything done we wanted. Woody told us he picked out some laminate for the table and counter tops. Very strange . . . it was the same one Marilyn and I picked out, but we were not sure it would match. It is called Aqua boomerang and it is a 1960's design that fits Kermit's personality to a T.

Something else interesting came up last week. A person read our blog and asked if I would be interested in contributing a story for a book he is creating. He sent me a couple of samples of what he has received so far and it looks interesting. I believe I'll write on the Beginning. Which will end once Kermit is here in his new home in Chicago.

I have disturbing visions of seeing Kermit's brain wobble as he he talks to the camera.

Apparently someone has decided to make the happiest frog ever the saddest frog ever.  Hey, Jim's death hurt me too, but I'm still clean.

Needle in the Hay is quite possibly my favorite Elliott Smith song if only for the guitar part.  I could hear an instrumental of it on repeat for at least...3 times through.  This has to be my favorite cover of it, but I haven't heard many other covers.  I'm also partial to this song because of this video and its Royal Tenenbaums references.
