That Sally and Calista, they had me a-booin' and a-hooin' again tonight. When Nora is telling Kitty how she thought she finally saw her as more than just the mom who drove her to ballet lessons, and Kitty shows her the book dedication...all to Nora, who she couldn't have written the book without. {Sniff, sniff}. Mother/daughter relationships are so complex and deep...that show really knows how to capture it all.

Okay, well, just wanted to give an update on some of my past posts....

The RUMMAGE SALE: It was Saturday morning and, wouldn't you know it, not a drop of rain here in months but when does it decide to rain???? Saturday morning, and only Saturday morning. Not a drop of rain except during those rummage sale hours. But it went okay anyway, I guess. It was a community rummage sale, where you pay for your space and that money goes as a fundraiser. I was stationed next to a friend of mine, so we gabbed all day between making sales. I'd say I sold about 1/3 to 1/2 of what I took out there, even some of the scrapbooking stuff. One gal came back three times, LOL! The biggest sale from SB stuff was an SEI 8x8 album in a box, it was from a CKU class, and was all pre-done, just pop in your photos and add the journaling. I sold it for $12, although just the materials were worth more than that. But the color scheme was something I was never going to use so why not? It went to a happy home, a young high school or college age scrapper who said she would scrap more if she had time. I hope the purchase helps her get a quick album done :)

Another success story {follow me on this, I promise, it will make sense}: So, on the other side of my space was a lady selling homemade chicken taquitos and pork and chicken tamales. OMG. That was just cruel to make me smell that yumminess all day! {Mexican food is my ATF, All Time Fave}. About half way through the morning, I ate my little Tillamoo cheese and non-fat Yoplait yogurt. Fighting like a real warrior against giving in to that Mexican food. Then DH says, "I'm taking off, there's a game on so I'm heading home. Please bring a mess of those taquitos home for me." At first, I'm like "WTF??"....then I realized hey, there's my excuse to buy ME some taquitos, too, LOL! So I ask the lady, "Are you going to be here til the end, because I want to buy some taquitos to take home?" and she says, "Yes." So at the end of the day, I still had about 2/3 of the clothing I had put out for sale and was dreading bagging it all up and taking it to AmVets. The lady from the taquito place comes over and is looking through all the clothes (they were kids clothes) and I can tell she'd like to have many of them but is only setting aside a few. So I said, "You know, you can just have all those clothes if you want them," and her face totally lights up. Then she says, "I'll give you food in exchange." I mean, was that the Deal of the Century or what? Too funny....

So, all in all, it was a good day. The kids ran around and played with their friends, I got to chat with a friend, offload some things I didn't need, and I got to eat taquitos! And we were blessed by God's rain which, even if you're trying to hold a rummage sale, is a beautiful, blessed thing.

Now, to update my SCRAPBOOK STORAGE post: Gosh, this is me at my most indecisive. I measured my room and figured out how many more Store In Style cubes, doors, shelves, etc. I would need to make the perfect set-up. Let's just say the number of cubes was in the double digits, but still cheaper than buying an Ikea Expedit and having it shipped (since I don't live anywhere near an Ikea), or any other scrap storage options I could find. I found a great online site to order them from since Mike's no longer carries them. And there they've sat in my Shopping Cart for over a week. I finally got over the price tag, but then started imagining the day 4 jillion boxes were dropped by UPS on my doorstep. I truly think DH would bust a gut, maybe even an aneurysm, over that one. I know this from experience, that he doesn't care about the what's and why's and 'but honey, I got such a great deal on it!'. All he knows is his wife went mad buying scrap stuff and he would be none too happy. So then I thought, what if I just buy a few at a time? But, no, it's still UPS dropping packages here, still busting guts, still aneurysms, still not good. So my latest idea hit me when I was at Mike's last week trying to spend my 40% coupon on something I actually needed. Duh, storage cubes, nimrod! I bought one of the cubes that they now carry, I think the brand name is Jetmax. I got the 3-drawer one like in this picture:

They are regularly $30, only $18 with the coupon. Now I'm going to see if I can make it work with collecting a bunch of these babies to create my Scrap Storage Nirvana. They are slightly smaller than the SIS cubes and since I have an odd number...well, it's hard to explain without drawing a diagram, but I'd still need to buy a few SIS cubes. Then hopefully I can fill in the rest of my wall with the Mike's ones. I'll just buy one a week with my coupon, and spend actually less money than buying the SIS cubes online. I have a little windfall cash set aside just for this project and I need to get going on this before the vacuum cleaner or washing machine breaks (that would be SO my luck). Just remember, my well-made decisions can spin on a dime, but that's the plan...for now!

Finally, to update my QVC post, I did watch most of the QVC scrapbooking shows and no, I didn't buy a single thing. Not because I didn't want anything, merely because....no money, no shop-ee. Times like this, I wish I were Katie Holmes...{wink}.

Yes, I KNOW that this topic keeps you awake at night too, grinding your teeth, rocking back and forth slowly muttering "What the HELL, TomKat? Brangelina? UGH"...and then you have to slap yourself because you've wasted brain cells and perfectly good sleep time AND because you're combining celebrity couples' names - which is so freaking annoying and needs to stop immediately (I blame Ryan Seacrest, even though I'm not quite sure it's his fault...it's just amusing to blame him for all of the world's problems). 

So, thanks to the brilliant suggestion from a close friend of mine, let's suspend reality for a few fleeting moments.

Guilty Pleasure Friday: Get Back Together, Please!

1. Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears - Pop Music Royalty

The world may have been a better place if these two had just worked out their problems and stayed together. They were practically engineered for each other; God/Buddha/Whoever did a coordinating paint-by-numbers from the PopStars collection and procured its Prince and Princess in J.T. and BritBrit. If they got back together, she could probably hold onto a shred of sanity, a decent hair weave, and at least partial custody of her kids. Justin would stop being so brooding and serious and could help Britney out by doing another duet to showcase his mad beatbox skills. Oh, how I hope to one day live in a world where Justin and Britney are once again united by unconditional love, laughter, and matching denim outfits.

2. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt - Hollywood's Golden Couple

I still think that their break up is a publicity stunt. I'll wake up Monday and the headlines will read: Too Perfect Together To Ever Be Apart. I mean, come on you guys! It's been years and people (well, me) are still not over your divorce. Brad, yes, Angelina Jolie seems incredibly hard to resist, what with the piercing blue eyes, amazing tattooed body, and those infamous lips, but even you must admit she's a shady character. She used to wear Billy Bob's blood in a vial around her neck, admitted to collecting and having a (sometimes sexual) fascination with knives, and made out with her brother on many occasions. I know she's practically a Saint these days, but WOW that's a LOT of baggage. Wouldn't you rather be with sweet, down-to-earth, naturally gorgeous Jennifer?

And, Jen, hang in there. I bet when Angelina is trying to convince Brad to adopt and save their 27th child he's just going to throw up his hands and say "ENOUGH. I did NOT sign up for this," and come running back to you.

3. Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson - Beauty and No Brains

I'm going to admit it once and for all, I miss Newlyweds. These two, while sometimes gross and lots of time idiotic, were supremely entertaining together. Jessica sang her best songs and looked fantastic; Nick drank a lot of beer and got invited to Playboy Mansion Parties. What a great combination! Since then, Jess has had no career to speak of and Nick has still been working out and probably still drinking lots of beer. I know he is dating that pretty Vanessa girl, but their relationship just seems so 'eh' and boring - just two attractive people who photograph well together and always seem to be wearing swimsuits. Nick, where's the passion? The steamy music videos? The tank tops??? Get back together with Jessica before she completely collapses in on herself like a dying star. Then maybe you could try to launch your solo career again...

Hahaha, kidding. Please don't.

4. Katie Holmes and well, anybody else...

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE for Katie Holmes to get back together with Joshua Jackson (who wouldn't?), but in all honesty, I would LOVE for Katie Holmes to get with anybody other than Tom "crazy eyes" Cruise. Besides, she and Josh dated only briefly while filming the first 2 seasons of Dawson's Creek, and that was quite some time ago. Who knows if it would really happen again?

Then again, Katie dated and was engaged to Chris Klein for years. I don't really know much about their relationship but their couple-y pictures seem lovely, normal, and socially acceptable (all the missing pieces of her current relationship). So, Katie, for the love of Buddha, just pick somebody else. Being with Tom makes you look dead inside, makes you dress in really bad clothes, and makes you look like a giant.

You want another reason? Here. This photo is making EVERYBODY UNCOMFORTABLE:

*Update - I JUST noticed that not only is Tom Cruise totally creepy beyond all reason but he is soaking wet. What IS that, sweat? Like Katie needs ANOTHER reason to leave him. Ew.

I personally take an extra pair of stockings with me when I wear them, and this habit has been a lifesaver before. Being Katie Holmes, I'm sure she could do the same and avoid this little embarrassing accessory.

You hardly noticed how prosaic Arthur Miller’s writing can be because the production had so much going for it, including brisk direction by Simon McBurney and a glossy cast: John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Patrick Wilson, and Katie Holmes.

After I got home, it seemed to me that All My Sons stands up to rereading both better and worse than some of the other plays that appeared in decade after World War II. It holds up better partly because Miller is dealing here with issues that have fresh relevance in the age of Haliburton and Enron: the evils of war profiteering and the moral duty of individuals to resist the soulless influence of American business. It holds up worse because Miller can use language as blunt instrument instead of a precision tool (as in Linda Loman’s famous defense of her husband, Willy: “ … attention must be paid”). That liability is perhaps more noticeable today than it was before videos and DVDs expanded the availability of more elegantly written plays from Hamlet to A Streetcar Named Desire.

I wondered if others shared my view, so I picked up Arthur Miller (Chelsea House, 148 pp., $35), part of the "Bloom’s BioCritiques" series edited and introduced by the distinguished critic Harold Bloom. (The volume on Miller in the "Bloom's Modern Critical Interpretations" series is instead shown above.) Bloom says:

“Miller is by no means a bad writer, but he is scarcely an eloquent master of the language.”

Exactly. The appeal Miller’s plays -- which remains high -- comes from virtues other than unparalleled phrase-turning, including their craftsmanship, moral courage and passionate exploration of the intersection of social and psychological forces in American lives.

A few comments on the Sept. 26 preview: Kate Holmes (Ann Deever) is easy on the eyes and, given that producers must be strafing her with scripts for romantic comedies, has made a statement about how she wants to be perceived by taking on this role. John Lithgow (Joe Keller) gives an energetic performance in a tough role that requires him to undergo a transformation that, as Miller wrote it, isn’t fully believable. Patrick Wilson (Chris Keller) grows into his part. None of those actors can touch Dianne Wiest (Kate Keller), whose portrayal of a mother unable to accept the death of her son in World War II must be one of the best recent portrayals of mental illness in any medium.

You don't need to dress old before your time, you will only look like mutton dressed as lamb if you wear too many fashion fads, wear fashions that don't suit your body shape and proportions,  (and this is the big one) show to much skin.

You need to be aware of fashions to stay looking current and youthful, but just don't follow them slavishly, and only wear what suits your personality, body shape, proportions, scale, colouring etc.  Not sure what this is?  Why not consider a session or two with an image consultant?

And, lest you all think I am a Katie-hater from my previous post, actually I used to like Katie Holmes, a lot. I used to watch Dawson's Creek when I was much younger. Maybe it was her hair that I liked, I have no idea. I just know things got a bit weird when she met Tom Cruise (understatement of the year, I know).  Anyway, she's one of those people who needs to stick with the long hair, much, much better, than the "boy cut" as my husband refers to it now.

On to running things - I officially registered for the Tufts 10K this weekend - should be a good race again. For the 15th of 16 years, it is the national championship race for that distance on roads - I'm hoping Deena Kastor and Katie McGregor, to name a few, decide to run it again.

I ran tonight for only about 3 miles, possibly less, around Horn Pond (hope that link works, it's my album from Bubbleshare), luckily before it got dark.  That's about all I could run before sunset hit. By the way, I did try to take photos of some of the trees tonight but there's still a bit more time needed before the leaves there really turn. I haven't forgotten my promise to post pics of New England in all its fall color glory - maybe in Maine this weekend, there'll be an opportunity.

Oh, and I've decided something about the TNT shirt, which I wore tonight to get used to.   I feel like the Purple People Eater in it, but that's not it. I'm going to have to wear it without another shirt underneath it - between the Camelbak and my body temp being what it is on a normal run, I'm going to totally overheat if I have another shirt on underneath it. Add to it that my best running shirt for long runs is orange, and  you get the picture.  So, sleeveless it is on Sunday. God, I hope it's not too cold at the start!

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement on my last post about my goals. Above all else, I do want to finish feeling good, I just think having some time goals will also help me out.  In case you are curious, here is the map for the race (some parts are right along the ocean and a nice cove of water), and the elevation profile from USATF.

Looks like the cultish powers of Tom Cruise STILL can't keep Katie Holmes from being successful...

Her play did a pre-opening to the public this week, and instead of being the flop that many were predicting, it rocked Broadway!  The play, "All My Sons, which also stars John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, and Patrick Wilson, doesn't officially open until October 16th, but it has already made $684,002 in it's first week!  That number topped all of the other plays at closing on Saturday.

Way to go Katie! Maybe this will give her back some of her credibility, and she can begin making movies again...

Second of all, why are they always so matchy-matchy?  It's like Tom thinks that if they don't wear the same clothes, have the same haircuts, and walk around attached at the wrist, no one will know she BELONGS to him.  Ridiculous.  

Katie, honey, please stand up for yourself.  Don't stoop to that short wacko's level, literally or figuratively. By all accounts, your performance on Broadway in "All My Sons" is excellent, you're adorable, and - other than the pegged jeans phase - you've become a fashion maven.  Own it!

It is one thing if after years of being together to have your styles merge slightly but to go for all-out matching? 

Also, as an aside, if my partner constantly paraded me around this way and "presented" me non-stop, I have to say I would doubt his sincerity.  I just would.

I'll say this for Ms. Beckham-- she always creates a sensation. For the launch of the Beckham's new fragrance, she sported Antonio Berardi from head to toe (but not heel).

The dress is lovely and very sculptural. I liked it better at it's original runway length (which was a few inches longer, but still well above the knee). Her mega-shortened skirt lost most of the interesting detail along the thigh. But a beautiful dress.

It's the rubberized-leggings-that-become-heelless-platform-boots that are...aahh...noteworthy. They certainly aren't for everyone. If anyone can pull them off, i would be Victoria Beckham. I like that they push the boundary of what is expected. But when does pushing boundaries just become absurd? Absurd, as in "I can't really walk or stand in these" absurd? I mean, really? Come on.

I can't wait until her BFF Katie Holmes buys these to wear with her pegged baggy jeans.
