So whats left when you dont want to blog about those things? MUSIC. and no not that shitty hip hop rap stuff. Im talking about real music, music with soul. Rock n Roll not to be confused with "Modern Rock". No its got soul. If you are asking yourself " who are these bands that this crazy kid talks of? ". the bands i speak of are (just to name a few) The Supersuckers (greatest Rock n Roll band in the world), Throw Rag , Joe's Garage, The Last Gang, Nashville Pussy, Peter Pan Speedrock, Valient Thorr, Zeke, Danko Jones, The Briefs, The Dickies, The Die Hunns, The Dwarves, Andrew W.K., Fireball Ministry , and Dropkick Murphys just to name a few. Some of those maybe punk but they all share 1 thing... A soul... Unlike these new bands out there that all sound the same, they all sing about the same thing, they all are in it for the money and the fame... the fallout boy's, the As I Lay Dying's, the The Devil Wears Prada's, the Shwayze's... the list goes on and on...

Joe's Garage, Based on Zappa Album, to Make World Premiere in September

The Open Fist Theatre Company in California will present the world premiere of Joe's Garage, a new stage production based on the Frank Zappa album of the same name.

Directed by Pat Towne, the production will begin previews at the Open Fist Theatre Sept. 18 with an official opening Sept. 26. The limited engagement will run through Nov. 22.

Joe's Garage was adapted by Pat Towne and Michael Franco and features musical direction by Ross Wright and choreography by Jennifer Lettelleir. Producers are Michael Franco, Charlie Otte and Pat Towne with permission from the Zappa Family Trust.

The musical event, according to press notes, tells "the story of Joe – a simple guitar player in a garage band – as he is drawn into the dark and nightmarish world of the music business. As Joe deteriorates from betrayal, disease, and madness, our narrator, the Central Scrutinizer asserts that music is responsible for his demise, and is therefore evil. [The production] is a cautionary tale about the oppression of government and its desire to make its citizenry conform and obey. It ponders a world where the government controls the masses by making music a crime. Masked in the simplicity of a high school musical, the play's attacks on government's surveillance of its own citizenry, the sexual escapades of the Catholic Church, the ridiculousness of Scientology, the avarice of the music business, self serving journalism, mindless consumerism and bad boy rock and roll behavior in general, makes for a wicked and timely satire – all this wrapped in the brilliant music of legendary rock icon Frank Zappa."

Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 7 PM.

 Well, it looks like today I’ve also got to cross most of my Zappa off my list, too. *Sigh*

My co-workers alerted me to my maniacal giggling over Joe’s Garage. I was reviewing a bunch of bills that are currently in session and “The Central Scrutinizer” opening cut came up. For the uninitiated, Joe’s Garage is more or less about the music business... but the opening line just whacked my funny bone in a big way:

This is the CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER...  it is my responsibility to enforce all the laws that haven't been passed yet. It is also my responsibility to alert each and every one of you to the potential consequences of various ordinary everyday activities you might be performing which could eventually lead to The Death Penalty (or affect your parents' credit rating). Our criminal institutions are full of little creeps like you who do wrong things...  and many of them were driven to these crimes by a horrible force called MUSIC!

Our studies have shown that this horrible force is so dangerous to society at large that laws are being drawn up at this very moment to stop it forever!  Cruel and inhuman punishments are being carefully described in tiny paragraphs so they won't conflict with the Constitution (which, itself, is being modified in order to accommodate THE FUTURE).

I bring you now a special presentation to show what can happen to you if you choose a career in MUSIC...

The WHITE ZONE is for loading and unloading only...if you have to load or unload, go to the WHITE ZONE... you'll love it...it's a way of life...Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...

And one of our clan, Red David, has been quoted in Zappadom from a comment he left about my squashed YouTube post and his squashed Joe's Garage production idea. Zappa fans can be pretty annoyingly judgmental, I guess since Frank is the same way. The difference is that the fans' music isn't as good! A Zappa fan with the moniker 'Trendmonger' considers Red David a lucky guy....

Btw, is Trendmonger really Warren Cuccurullo or does he just link to Warren's site?

Bandfotografie rockt. Und das auch genreunabhängig.

He looked stunning (can you say that about a man?) in a grey suit, pink shirt underneath and a hot pink hankie in his top pocket that he occasionally used to dab his forehead. He reeked of humbleness. He was humble enough to sit and eat with the auto dealers who came to see him. He didn't rush in at the last minute when it was his turn to speak.

As you probably know, he's a motivational speaker, an author and a millionaire, who at one point in his life lived homeless with his son. But he says he's first and foremost a father.

As a speaker, he's funny, frank and engaging, a natural storyteller. He's working on a book about spiritual genetics, a follow-up to his recently published The Pursuit of Happyness.

Spiritual genetics is a concept that says we can choose the spirit we want to embrace, choose the people we want to be. "I could've embraced the spirit of my step-father," he said. His step father was abusive to the extreme, he said. "I chose to embrace the spirit of my mother."

I'm sure some of the people at the meeting were anticipating his rags to riches story, which he told, but getting wealthy, he said, was the means to accomplish his true mission in life: "to break the cycle of men who are not there for their children."

Great message. I was inspired to be a better father! A better mother, anyway.

Here's some of what he had to say:
On the movie: "These guys spend $70 million to recreate what I did with nothing."
on Will Smith's son: "He has more talent in his little toe than Will Smith has in his whole body."

His journey to fame started with Barbara Walters, who interviewed him for 20/20. He didn't want to do the show at first. His initial response was: No. "Why me?"

They didn't give up, he said. "We had some serious conversations." He agreed to do it only if it didn't focus on his millionaire-ness -- the toys, the stuff the property. He wanted to tell the tale of an enlightened father.

He said one of the scariest things in the world: "is Barbara Walters saying your first and last name and you don't know what she's going to say next."

He said that show was the second highest rated 20/20. The day following the airing, the calls poured in, including one from Oprah. He said he declined the invitation and got a message back that: "it's not nice to say no to Oprah."

Gardner finally made it to Oprah, where he shed some tears. "I broke down crying," he said. "There's no crying on Wall Street."

He got a another call from a producer who wanted to do a reality series about homeless people, involving cleaning them up and getting them a job and giving them money -- if they win.

Gardner: "Homelessness is not a game," he told the guy. "But if you're thinking it is," he said, send him the money because he already won.

He also got a call from movie producers who wanted to "take a meeting."
"I'm from Chicago," he said. "I take the train. I take a nap." He's never taken a meeting. He said he has never been fond of Los Angeles. "I do not like LA. I do not get it."

Turns out they want to do his story and they want Will Smith to play him. "I'm a huge Will Smith fan. I love his movies, his music." Next thing, they were filming in San Francisco, which is where he started in the field of science after being discharged from the Navy. He was 22 years old, single, no kids and was making $7,500 a year.

Here's where his story gets interesting. He vindicates homeless people, who are typically blamed for their homelessness.

"Life happens," he said. "If this was a different venue I'd say something else. I will say it anyway: Shit happens and sometimes it happens to you."
