We show you the new sneaker line-up of the Jil Sander Fall/Winter 2008 collection.  This season there are two low top sneakers and one high top sneaker. Just like we are used from the German brand, the silhouettes and colors stay very clean and simple.

One low top comes with a velcro strap, the other one plays with several panels on the toe box, something we have not seen before. The high top is also very simple and clean. Also, the entire line-up features a nice play with materials, that you sometime do not even realize the first time you look at them.

From New York to Paris, via Milan, the “good old days” of style are back. Designers have decided to pair classy with sassy for solid everyday looks.
This fall we will see the return of plaids and tweeds, twin-sets, full skirts, fur collars, driving gloves, glasses, sheer coloured stockings, lady-like frame bags, belts, hats and mid-calf boots. Here is your quick list of the 8 most important pieces to add to your fall wardrobe.

1.    The Long and Lean Look: Temperatures and hemlines will drop for a more sophisticated look. At Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa showcased one of his best collections yet, rife with strict, formal lines with deliberate volume in a palette of royal blues, burgundy and charcoal. Dolce & Gabbana got its inspiration from 70’s icon Lauren Hutton and at Marc Jacobs his silhouettes seemed to have stepped out of Edwardian look books.

2.     A Day in the country: DKNY gave us brocades paired with knits and barrel-shape tweed dresses with jackets.  Carolina Herrera added long feathers to her fedoras and gave an equestrian-theme edge to her sexy hunter's silhouette. In his line Marc by Marc Jacobs also touched on this into the woods feel.  Plaids and tweeds are going to be big.

3.    Architecture-wear and bold collars: It’s all about the neckline. Raf Simons perfectly captured the vernacular of the Jil Sander with body-hugging tweed dresses and stand-up collars. The collar as statement also was evident at Bottega Veneta, Marni. At Maison Martin Margiela, collars were in a league of their own.

4.    Androgyny is Back: Power dressing inspired Miuccia Prada’s stellar show of straight-laced menswear separates. What a great stylish additions to your wardrobe! Stefano Pilati for YSL created a futuristic spin on the androgyny look. Alexander Wang, Dolce and Gabbanna, Calvin Klein, Derek Lam and Max Mara followed suit.

5.    Eclectic Prints & Fall Flowers: The ethnic beat moves away from India and into Eastern Europe at Gucci, Aztec and Native American at Ralph Lauren and Anna Sui.  On the French front, Jean Paul Gaultier and Sonia Rykiel made the print into a piece of wearable art.

6.    French Chic: Dior was in the 60s but “French Chic” ran the gamut from maid uniforms and ribbon pleating to 50s bombshell dresses. Thierry Mugler molded shapes define the season.The best came from: Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, and Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton.  The French touch can also be felt in Stella McCartney and Proenza Schouler with “Black and White” as colour palette, sexy cuts and bows everywhere.

7.    Ball Gowns/Evening wear: Ball gowns are now a standard item for your wardrobes. Giambattista Valli sent out a princess-worthy puff of scarlet, whilecencases his princess in creamy feathers.  Other designers made their mark here as well, Prada cocktail dresses, Alexander Wang evening attire, without forgetting Louis Vuitton and Derek Lam.

8.    Accessories Galore: There’s no end to accessories.
Hats, tights, belts, clutches, and mid-calf boots: YSL dealt out in to one of the season's best new trends, mid-calf boots with a stiletto heel. Elaborate tights are fall’s bulk-buy.
Just Cavalli was all about the inner animal with a leopard print, and Sonia Rykiel goes with mod colour blocks visible for miles.  Hats: Marc Jacobs gives us a Paul Revere-ish tricorn hat and the 80’s headband. Whilst Alexander McQueen showed rich, Indian bridal jewels draped over foreheads, Junya Watanabe, wrapped and tied soft gray fabric over the face as headpiece.

In case you haven't heard, there will be three reality shows about stylists airing this fall. I'm not sure which one will cause me to watch the whole season, but MTV's reality show promises an appearance from Erin Wasson which is always a good sign, right? [Fashion Inc.]

Fotografiert hat der Belgier Willy Vanderperre, der auch schon die Sommer-Kampagne geschossen hat. Während ich letztere mit diesen Tier-Skeletten ein bisschen dämlich fand, gefällt mir das hier ausgesprochen gut. Sehr dicht, sehr winterlich.

Take it for what you will, but It looks like 90s favorite, Doc Martens, just got a second wind from an unsuspecting source.

It appears designer Raf Simmons will be collaborating with the shoe brand on a limited-edition line set to drop sometime in spring '09. Three prototypes from the collaboration recently appeared at Bread & Butter, the Barcelona trade show where lots of popular niche brands show-off all of their new designs for buyers.

While I understand Raf's decision to bring the modern minimalist aesthetic that has made his own lines so popular to the Doc Martens franchise by streamlining an otherwise boring shoe style, there's absolutely nothing even mildly attractive in his two opened-toed shoes. In particular, the "mandel" with red stitching. It's looks like a fall '07 Balenciaga gladiator sandal gone awry.

Hopefully, the women will be spared from this collaboration because I would hate to see what a remixed pair of day-glo hi-tops would look like.

MILAN — If there was one take-home message from the Milan men's shows this week, it was Mondrian Mania. Mondrian's well-known color blocking showed up all over the runways. Raf Simons at Jil Sander showed wildly patriotic red, white, and blue blocked suits as well as a more wearable version in navy, pale khaki and light grey. The designer's two-tone colored lace-ups and multi-pouch shoulder bags in the same colors showed that men, too, can match their accessories if they so choose.

In a similar vein, Neil Barrett's much appreciated climate-controlled venue had a huge Yves Klein blue stripe on the wall, which presaged his take on the arty modernist trend: white shirts had red or blue sleeves or colored collar insets while the shoes had poppy blue and red toe caps. Gucci gave us a neon surf-fest that included bi-colored trousers in royal blue and black that mimicked the yoke of a beach boardshort. (Even the iconic Gucci loafer got the color-block treatment.) And Marni also got into the color block trouser game, albeit in a more somber neutral palette.

While the days during the Milan collections were bursting with shows, presentations and appointments, the evening schedule proved to be equally rigorous with all sorts of cocktails and parties scheduled back to back. Saturday's evening started with uncharacteristically prompt cocktails followed by a sit-down dinner in the courtyard of Donatella Versace's headquarters. It's been a bit of a celeb-fest here with Dominic Cooper ("Mamma Mia"), Gerard Butler ("300"), Clive Owen, Adrian Brody, Maria and Bobby Shriver, and Fergie occupying a seat in the front row at one time or another, but Donatella's special guest Janet Jackson (along with her boo Jermaine Dupree) trumped them all. Miss Jackson and Donatella lounged on a divan in the middle of the courtyard receiving guests and chatting before heading to the tables to begin the dinner portion of the show.

Before I had managed a bite, I had to discreetly remove myself in order to get across town to Dolce & Gabbana's restaurant, Gold, for a dinner party celebrating their clever pajama suit runway parade that afternoon. A molto molto elegante affair in a molto molto elegante dining room, the dinner started as a multi-course affair and ended a couple hours later with Naomi Campbell holding court at a raucous table.

I was fortunate to sit at dinner with Pat McGrath, the very lovely make-up artist extraordinaire, who said that in the ten-plus years she's been coming to Milan for the women's shows she's never really had a proper night out on the town. She loved the friendliness of the men's show crowd....and we loved having her.

Sunday evening was a bit more mellow due to the soccer match between Italy and Spain that pretty much shut down the city. I tagged along with T's editor Stefano Tonchi for a drive-by visit to L'Uomo Vogue's 40th anniversary fete. I caught a glimpse of Tilda Swinton looking fashion-y and feminine in a metallic shift before beating the heat and heading off to a quiet dinner down the street at La Brisa, my favorite restaurant in Milan.

I called it a night at midnight, not long after hearing the shouts of disappointed Italian fans echoing down the streets.

Abboud sold his brand for $65.5 million in 2000. The sale include the Joseph Abboud trade mark and the rights to his name, and Abboud remained as a consultant.

But he fought with the CEO Marty Staff, and after a 2 year contractual restriction, decided to start up a new label called jaz, using the tagline “a new composition by designer Joseph Abboud”.

The company attempted to get a court order, alleging that use of his name was a trade mark infringement.

The judge ruled in favour of the company, ordering Abboud to stop using his name.

The moral of the story? You can sell your name for millions, as Abboud did, but when it's sold, that's it.

Moral #2 - be careful when you're choosing the name of your brand. If you use your own name - like Jil Sander and Helmut Lang (both of whom have sold their labels and own names) - it can bind you later on.

I tried these Jil Sander platforms on a long while ago. I think it was January? They made me like 8 feet tall. I soon became a human sky-scrapper. My friend cheered me on, insisting I looked amazing. Totally horrid to walk in (stepping like a careful goat) but boy, did they look sexy!!! If only!  Mona Moore has them on sale for a nice price, you may have better luck walking in them than myself? Go make your feet happy! Worry about acupuncture later.

A Miuccia [Prada] e o Raf Simons encabeçam uma lista de criadores que trabalham um laboratório de mudanças fundamentais no closet masculino. Mas, não são loucos a ponto de fazerem roupas que não vendam. A Miu Miu masculina – a mais criativa, segundo Colin Mc Dowell para meu blog - acabou, o foco lab agora é na Prada. Na Jil Sander, Simons está preso a contrato de vendas. Na sua signature line, pode fazer experimentos e leva-los para a grife Jil Sander.

Isso vem acontecendo desde os anos 2000, digamos, sendo generosos. Acredito que tais mudanças, tais laboratórios estejam conectados à procura da nova silhueta do terno executivo contemporâneo. Por um simples motivo: quem EMPLACAR a nova silhueta do terno do homem de negócios, do estadista, do clero sem batinas e e afins, e não apenas nos fashionistas e modernos, entra para o hall of fame da moda contemporânea, ou melhor, em letras garrafais, entra para a HISTÓRIA.
Vale lembrar que tudo começou em Versailles quando os alfaiates de Luiz 14, tiveram a idéia brilhante de fazer as 3 peças num mesmo tecido, estampa e cor, estava criado o terno de 3 peças: calça, paletó e colete, – daí terno. Depois, tudo foi adaptação.
Para encurtarmos a história, nos 60´s Pierre Cardin, criou o terninho curto e justo, sem lapela que foi devidamente copiado, renovado e usado pelos Beatles, via o seu empresário. Foi copiado por modernos e fãs do mundo inteiro. Acabou, saiu de moda. Já não me lembro quantas vezes fiz matéria no Ela [caderno do jornal O Globo], tendo como pauta, o novo terno.

Se você observar, tem no mínimo uns 10 criadores apostando na nova silhueta. Foi tema de pesquisa do WGSN [bureau de tendências] _ a nova alfaiataria. Fazer uns poucos fashionistas usar é simples. Nada fora do normal. Agora, convencer todos os homens de negócios do planeta usarem – de Nova York a Xangai _ ai são outros quinhentos. Quero estar vivo e bem esperto, velhinho, para ver ... e adotar, of course, a novidade hehehe.
