A very busy morning, from the moment we set up there was a man ready to talk!

Then the flow of people just kept coming. Mainly tourists like the couple who had a JW background. Then there was the Woman from the bank who'd never taken time to see the need to be ready to meet God.  We were encouraged by the lady from St Albans who assured us she was in a Church where the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached each week.

Three local people stick in mind, the eighteen year old who said she didn't want to answer the question 'are you a good person' because she knew she wasn't but didn't want to change. The man from Rosedale who listened and took away a John's gospel. And the man who said he'd been a Roman Catholic for 80 years but saw no need to consider the claims of Christ. The time flew today, there were so many people to speak with.

Nick managed to give a leaflet to the local vicar, but he didn't stop to talk!

One final person sticks in mind, the lady who told us she had a degree in religious studies and that we insulted her by asking if she had been born again!!!!! We are sorry that you found the gospel offensive and pray that you will come to thank God for the day you met us.

Alle 20:30 del 2 Aprile 1968 tra le cupole della chiesa copta di Zeitun si verifica la prima di una lunga serie di apparizioni attribuite alla Vergine Maria (la madre di Jesù Cristo secondo i cristiani).
Il 2 Aprile è una data particolare di una certa importanza essendo l’ultimo giorno di un lungo periodo di festeggiamenti che la chiesa copta dedica a questa divinità.
Tra i primi ad accorgersi dell’apparizione, due meccanici di religione musulmana che lavoravano in un’officina di riparazioni posta di fronte alla struttura...

Quello che videro fu una figura di donna circondata da un intenso alone luminoso che si inchinava ogni volta che passava accanto alla croce che sovrastava la cupola principale; in seguito le apparizioni si ripresentarono con notevole costanza (nei primi due anni in media 2-3 volte alla settimana).
La TV egiziana ha fatto parecchie riprese, centinaia di fotografi professionisti hanno realizzato (pare) migliaia di fotografie ed è stato calcolato (non so da chi e in che modo) che in tre anni più di un milione di persone sia stato testimone delle apparizioni di Zeitun.

Da notare come siano rari i casi di apparizioni mariane in paesi extra-cattolici, è stata osservata infatti una tendenza spiccata nei paesi di religione cattolica a dispetto degli altri.

La correlazione tra certe apparizioni presunte e la relativa collocazione geografica farebbe supporre quindi un'origine puramente culturale di questi fenomeni; ogni religione ha infatti i propri dei che in modo diverso si mostrerebbero ad alcuni fedeli privilegiati.

Well put my friend. To be brutally honest, the reason I'm a little out of it in metal circles these days is due to an ill-advised foray into nu-metal territory in the late 90s. I bought records by Slipknot, Korn, and Limp Bizkit among others and even went to Ozzfest. The whole thing kind of left a bad taste in my mouth (alright, I'm still okay with Korn, and Ozzfest was awesome). But I digress...

Para empezar estamos experimentando con el podcast. Jesu fue el primero en comenzar con su Roquefordcast en el que analiza la actualidad de la semana. Tras él llegó Charlie Torres con su Ciudadano Llano, un podcast con vocación diaria y en el que también la actualidad y la opinión se conjugarán en un programa diario. Próximamente soulinake será otro que se una a esto del podcast, con un programa semanal centrado en todas las sustancias psicotrópicas que pueblan los paraísos artificiales del ser humano. En un futuro muy cercano, ésta será nuestra radio Sin Futuro.

Pero no nos quedamos aquí. A finales de octubre y coincidiendo con el Puente de Todos Los Santos y la Cumbre Iberoamericana que se celebrará en El Salvador, la gente de Sin Futuro estará en el III Congreso de Nuevo Periodismo que tendrá lugar en Cáceres.

Y seguimos porque apenas 15 días después nos espera otra cita: el EBE, en Sevilla, el encuentro de blogueros más prestigioso de Iberoamérica.

Simón de Cirene fue, según los evangelios  un personaje que ayudó a Jesús a llevar su cruz hasta el Gólgota, donde luego sería crucificado.

Simón de Cirene, en ese momento contaba con 50 años, pero bastante corpulento de piel blanca centrina, era natural de Cirene, un país situado entonces en el norte de Äfrica, entre Egipto y Tripolitania. Accedió a una orden de Longino el centurión a cargo de la crusifixion de Jesucristo. Longino se fijo en el cuando, en compañía de otros amigos y peregrinos como el desde cirene, se dirigían por la ruta de Jaffa, desde el campamento que les servía de provisional refugio, hacia el templo. Como buen judío tenía intención de asistir a los oficios rituales de aquel viernes de pascua. Pero sus propósitos se vieron arruinados por la inesperada llamada del oficial romano.

No venía, por tanto, de ninguna heredad, como han explicado numerosos comentaristas bíblico. Aquel Simón, como muchos otros peregrinos, había acudido a la fiesta de la Pascua y al no disponer de un mejor albergue, había montado su tienda muy cerca de la muralla.

¡Claro! en aquel tiempo, Simón de Cirene no conocía prácticamente a Jesús. Algo había oído, si, sobre sus prodigios y curaciones, pero, al menos en aquellos históricos momentos, la tragedia del hijo del hombre no le afectó lo más mínimo. Cumplió con lo que le habían ordenado, permaneció después durante algún tiempo cerca de las cruces por pura curiosidad.

Años más tarde, sin embargo, tanto el como sus hijos Alejandro y Rufus se convertirían en eficaces propagadores del evangelio en el norte de Africa.

1st September: The Mirimar Disaster - Volumes

Give it a brief glance and you could be forgiven for thinking that that's the album cover for We Are the Romans, and the Mirimar Disaster have more than just that in common with Botch.

I've got to admit, I wasn't really going to give this one a look in, having grown weary of the continuously massive claims purported by the likes of Kerrang! about the next brilliant thing to come out of the UK, but having read one of my Sonic Dice colleague's review of the album (a flawless victory with 6/6) my interest was piqued and I headed to their Myspace, only to be very, very impressed.

It's sounding heavy and bludgoning, in a similar vibe to the aforementioned Botch, and that's just the way we fucking like it.

9th September: United Nations - United Nations

I should imagine that the majority of people who buy this album will be buying on the strength of one name alone - being the supergroup as seemingly spearheaded by one Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw fame.

Whilst rumours abound about a possible new Glassjaw record, Palumbo has put that signature voice to good use, alongside the prestigious talent of Converge's drummer Ben Koller and Geoff Rickly of Thursday, to create an absolute nuclear bomb of an album.

A full stream of the work can be found here, and it's certainly a preview that has left me wanting the real deal in my hands upon release day.

8th September: Jesu - Why Are We Not Perfect?

Jesu are one of those sonically massive bands that take a lot of time and patience to appreciate, unlike more popular contemporaries such as ISIS and Neurosis. Indeed, the title for Justin Broaderick's new EP is an interesting step in itself - perhaps suggesting an undercurrent of self questioning in Broaderick's project given the fickleness of his fans (anyone I've met who likes the project are all of the opinion that the Silver EP was shit).

Whilst it's not a massive offering from Broaderick, it's good to see the Jesu name on release schedules again and I look forward to hearing what this follow up to 2007's well receieved Conquerer sounds like. If it's anything like the gut-wrenching track Friends Are Evil' from '05's self titled release, then it's a guaranteed barrel of laughs.

12th September: Metallica - Death Magnetic

I severely doubt you'll need to look out for the arrival of this album, as the internet and popular music media is set to collapse under the weighty promises of this album.

Months of delicate preparation and carefully scheduled media announcements have meant that, despite a few years ago Metallica being all but dead with St Anger, millions of metal heads are already popping a boner with this next offering, and if you haven't heard about it then you simply must be living in a battery (ha).

Of course, just like St Anger, whether it's shit or not is negligible - this will be the biggest selling metal record of '08, without a doubt, so let's see if it's got the music to back the sales.

22nd September: Kings of Leon - Only By the Night

Surprising pretty much everyone when they released Because of the Times, with its fantastic leading single and overall quality, Kings of Leon certainly stuck a collective finger up at the trendsetters that argued over what their best album was.

Truthfully, I've never been too infatuated with Kings of Leon, although their early albums certainly spawned some cracking singles, and in the case of 'The Bucket' a brilliantly realised video. But, give them their due they are a band who have begun to experiment with their comfort zones, and I'm quite looking forward to hearing what this next release is set to sound like, especially considering how quickly it's taken them to put together. Will it be another step forward, or standing stock still? We'll see.

22nd September: Mogwai - The Hawk Is Howling

There was a time when I didn't like Mogwai. Of course, having grown a bit older and wiser I've come to fall in love with the majority of their back catalogue, from the cult-like Young Team (not my favourite) and the underdog Happy Songs for Happy People (one of my favourites).

So there's no doubting how excited I am for this release. Batcat, the EP that precedes this album (out September 8th) is a slice of demonically heavy rock that genuinely unsettles, especially when paired with its video, and if that is a sign to come then I can't wait to cuddle up to The Hawk is Howling.

Reports from live shows have been extremely positive, and have also suggested that Batcat's heavier turn is one that is exacerbated on the new album. What a way to close September.

No estoy seguro de si todavía exsite el SSACD (Servicio Suqua de Atención al Ciudadano Descarriado) o lo han desmantelado, pero lo sigo necesitando. Hay muchas cosas que ya no sé si existen. Será la depre post-vacacional. Tampoco sé si me está permitido hablar de mis compañeros, porque hay ahora reglas más estrictas en el subconsciente de este blog; pero bueno, aquí está todo permitido, además sólo lo voy a hacer un poco y bien. Porque es que les echo de menos a todos. Y están por ahí, la mayoría creo que preparando la vuelta al cole.

Volver al cole, ver el primer anuncio de El Corte Inglés es chocante, aunque tiene también su encanto, el de empezar cuadernos nuevos, como los que le gustan a Joey. Joey, o Jorge, debe estar estudia que te estudia y preparando su futuro para ser un hombre de provecho (ya lo es). Lo ha dejado advertido en su blog principal, que no vuelve en no sé cuánto tiempo. De Fer sé bien poco, pero supongo que estará ya terminando las vacaciones con el planing del nuevo curso y quizá de nuevo destino. Mónica está estresada (apurada, diría ella) con sus espacios, sus denuncias de censura y su vida, que yo la imagino apasionante. Ccy se marcha pronto a Querétaro, preocupada por ver quién se ocupa del Ciber (supongo que su hermanita Jessie) y comenzar los propedéuticos dichosos (vaya palabreja)... al fin será psicóloga! Y Jesu, pues Jesu está exprimiendo los días antes de la vuelta al cole, que será sin pistola de agua (no había, me dicen, pero creo que no me la quieren comprar) arrastrando todavía los fantasmas de antes del verano, parece que tengan pilas alcalinas porque no hay forma humana de quitármelos de encima.

Y nuestros colaboradores. Äfrica, alegre y positiva Äfrica, no sé qué hace vomitando pensamientos y palabras a Sotto Voce, como un susurro en el aire. Lumons, en su mundo con sus musiquitas y vídeos, queriendo ser un Súper como tú, asegura. Si no vale la pena, se sufre mucho, ya se lo he explicado pero no hay manera. Ivanka, dando vueltas de aquí para allá y hacendo mil cosas, en especial una muy importante. Estoy casi seguro de que hay tres o cuatro Ivankas (me recuerdas a Carmen). Si es así, yo quiero una para mí, que me contagie su energía. Carlos, Saiph, Fausto, Charly, el hombre de las mil caras que sólo se conecta cinco minutos y medio, trabajando en Altoaragón y haciendo descansitos para la juerga con sus amigos y entre cosa y cosa plantar un articulito interesante y bonito en algún lugar, de los que me gustan y me hacen pensar. No quiero olvidarme de nadie aunque no puedo citaros a todos. Algunos, medio-desaparecidos. Ana, debe estar en Narnia. Lidia, llevando a cuestas una pesada carga (un beso te dejo). El sábado día 30 cumplimos un añito con la visita de más de 30.000 ciudadanos desde que empezamos esta historia Jorge y yo (sí, él más que yo), una historia con ratos buenos, buenísimos, regulares, menos regulares, divertidos, enloquecidos, serios, aburridos, con risa y con llanto, con respeto y palabras que duelen, de todo se aprende. Y como soy un sentimental quiero celebrarlo con vosotros con besos y abrazos.  

Este espacio, que pretendió ser nido de una república por descubrir se ha vuelo demasiado frío. Le damos un poquito de amor? Empezó como un diálogo apasionado entre dos y ahora es otra cosa. Yo no sé por qué me aferro tanto a lo que fueron las cosas. Me gustaría volver a los orígenes, pero entre muchos, con todos. Bueno, el futuro dirá adonde nos lleva esta aventura.

What if you changed just a little from where you used to be? you used to not watch certain movies, but now they are OK. You used to not go places, but now it is OK. You used to not talk a certain way, but now it is OK. 

The world’s standard has changed so much, how much have we changed with it? 

You used to study 1 hr a day, now it is a half hr or sometimes not at all. Look back in the old days and how they used to live. We are so far from that today. 

What happens to a plane that is off course even just a little? No matter what, it would be more & more off course each day. (of course unless it got back on track) But if it didn’t then over years it would be so far off that it would not go where it started off to go.

What if that has happened to the christian world? We are so far from the standard of the old timers, that we can not recognize the church from the world.

Where is the line? Why are we so close to it? THe bible says “Be ye holy for I am holy. Where are we? How are we comparing weather we are holy or not? WIth others? With Self?

Where are we? How far off course are we? What if what we are doing & being is even a little off??

Matt 7:13-14  Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it.

    But the gate is narrow (contracted by pressure) and the way is straitened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it.

Narrow: to crowd, afflict, throng, suffer tribulation, trouble, (a rut, or worn track-path)

Wow, we run from tribulation & suffering, but that is where the narrow gate is. 

We are so far off that vs 21-23 will be what happens to most people who think they are on track.

21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.

    22 Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name?

    23 And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands].

What if what we were when we first got saved is the narrow gate? I have heard people say, “when I first got saved I went to church 3-5 days a week”, I read & prayed all day, “I couldn’t tell enough people about Jesus.” But somehow over time we allow our time to be stolen form us. Our time with God gets less & less. Tell someone about Jesus, well that is the preachers job.

We let circumstances change us. 

Rev. 2:1-29; 3:1-22

1st church = good works, good labor, patience, but off just a little: left their first love.

Which of the 7 churches are we like? What if we are off just a little. 

1 Jn. 2:28-29 - will we shrink at His coming?

28 And now, little children, abide (live, remain permanently) in Him, so that when He is made visible, we may have and enjoy perfect confidence (boldness, assurance) and not be ashamed and shrink from Him at His coming.

    29 If you know (perceive and are sure) that He [Christ] is [absolutely] righteous [conforming to the Father's will in purpose, thought, and action], you may also know (be sure) that everyone who does righteously [and is therefore in like manner conformed to the divine will] is born (begotten) of Him [God].

Will we shrink at His coming because we are off just a little?

Today is the day of salvation, now is the expectable time. Seek Him today while He can still be found. Examine yourselves, if you are off a little, get back on track today. Don’t wait until it is to late.

ARE YOU IN THE FAITH???

Turns out they recently released two split recordings with two bands I also like a lot, Battle Of Mice, a side project of the singer of Made Out Of Babies and the guy responsible for the visual effects with Neurosis, and Envy, Japan's fierceful noiserock outfit.

The Split with Envy starts out with three songs by the Japanese band, but somehow they feel a little bit like those are leftovers from a previous recording. The first song is an electronic mix which makes sense as a fill in between two songs. It's not bad, mind you, it's just different and unexpected. What I like about Envy is the pure heaviness which presses you to the wall and keeps you from breathing. This is lacking here. The second one features more classic arragements with guitars, bass and drums and sounds like it would fit onto their great "Insomniac Doze" LP. It's got this repetetive pattern which you don't want to stop because it's so beautiful, but then all hell breaks loose and things fall apart only to sound even better than before. For songs like this one I love Envy. The last piece has a rather strange melody for an Envy song, it's way too melodic, but while some of my friends would put this in the melodypunk folder I really like it. It's different again. Still the overall impression remains. This is not Envy at their best.
Jesu on the other hand start off with a 13:40 monster of electronic arrangements which seems to drag on forever. I have to admit that I liked them for their heavy sound so this came as some sort of a surprise but on the other hand it didn't because they had a lot of eletronic arrengements on some previous recordings as well. It has a strong ambient touch to it and I like that a lot. At some part it changes from a breaking beat into the slow motion pattern of typical Jesu songs. The drumscomputer fades out two and a half minutes before the end leaving the listener with sounds, just sounds and melodies. Great stuff. The other one is way shorter (7:36) and again this is a lot softer than the stuff I usually would expect from them. It drags on slowly as well with string arrengements and guitar pickings (although that might be some electronic stuff as well, I'm not quite sure). A nice way to round off this split which is won by Jesu.

On the split with Battle Of Mice it's Jesu who start the show with a more conventional song by their means. Slow and rather spartanic guitar riffs with clear vocals dominate at the beginning as this one goes on for 7:18.  The other one is a little bit more quite, the vocals start off slightly distorted. No distorted guitars though, as this drags on with drums, bass, acoustic guitars and a piano. And it's slow. What I like about those songs is that although they are so long and nothing is changing it's still great music to listen to. You suddenly recognize the song is over because you were drawn into it so much. Once again, two great songs.
Battle Of Mice continue where they left off on their great debut record. The vocals are very unique, the music shifts bewteen loud and quiet and this dynamic really makes this special. There's always this very dark and gloomy feeling to the band which I really like. Their first song also features male vocals which in my eyes spoils the fan a little bit because with that the song sounds rather normal to me. The second one is also very typical of the band with the mixture of soft and tender vocals which suddenly switch to insane screams. It'd really like to see this band play live once. Must be quite an experience. No winner here as both bands deluiver great songs.

Straight out of North Point Community Church in Atlanta, Ga, Fee (whose former indie titles were released under the name Steve Fee) comes to redefine innovation in worship.

From airy riffs with U2-esque delay effects to crunchy straightforward rock and roll, the album "We Shine" runs the gambit on instantly loveable worship tunes that will be sure to satisfy the urge of any worshipper to praise God loudly.

The album opens with with the song "All Because of Jesus" which contains lyrics that are easy for any believer to take ownership of in their praise to God. A highly relatable, and rythymically pleasing song, "All Because of Jesus" has already become a staple in the setlist of many worship leaders.

But what of the album's title track? You'd expect the title track of an album to be a song that clearly defines the album's theme. "We Shine" does not disappoint. This track is a soaring anthem whose theme is worshipping freely, in spirit and in truth as we as worshippers are called to do. From beginning to end, this song not only promotes unrestrained worship, it inspires it. It has become a popular anthem for many events and conferences this Summer.

"Beautiful the Blood" is another song that will sure to find way into your Worship Set. It has amazing dynamics from start to finish. You will also recognize a well produce cover of Tim Hughes, "Happy Day" on the album as well. 

It only takes a moment listening to the honesty in the writing and the vocals of Steve Fee to realize that this is someone who truly loves God and lives to worship Him.

This is more than just an album, it is a worship experience and we at Innovative Ministry Leader wholeheartedly recommend that you check it out!

Il y a peu de groupes de rock que j'aime autant que celui-là. Chaque écho d'une nouvelle sortie me fait invariablement frissonner, me donne envie de l'entendre tout de suite, comme lorsque j'étais gamin, guettant les sorties de mes groupes préférés. Jesu réveille cela en moi et beaucoup d'autres choses, sans doute parce que ce groupe déploie un son qui évoque invariablement celui de quelques groupes comme Slowdive ou My Bloody Valentine, éthéré et cosmique, mais aussi empli de guitares distordues, qui vrillent  la tête, inlassablement narcoleptiques.

Why Are We Not Perfect n'est pas un nouvel album, mais un disque de six morceaux dont certains étaient sortis l'an dernier en vinyle, sur un disque partagé avec le groupe ambient Eluvium. Pas grave : les réécouter est un plaisir d'autant plus vif que le dernier EP en date de Jesu, Lifeline, était plutôt décevant, un peu trop embrouillé. Celui-ci est bien plus vivace, moins migraineux, explorant une forme organique de pop salie. Comme pour la plupart de ses EP, Justin Broadrick, l'âme du groupe, joue ici tout seul, compose et enregistre à la maison. Le groupe, lui, intervient pour les albums et la scène. Du coup, les EP sont aussi des moments d'introspection expérimentale (il faut à tout prix écouter le fabuleux Sun Down / Sun Rise, fait de deux longs morceaux morts-vivants). Justin Broadrick chante comme s'il tentait d'avoir à nouveau vingt ans, mais sans y parvenir vraiment : dans sa voix, dans ses mots, il y a bien quelque chose de cassé, qui ne prête guère à la jouvence, mais traduit une mélancolie dure, presque acide, morbide. Une mélancolie portée par la lenteur de ses arrangements, par l'hypnotisme de ses ritournelles, par ses guitares superposées qui résonnent entre elles, comme des fantômes se mélangeant. D'un morceau à l'autre, il y a comme un virus qui se propage et donne à l'ensemble un air organique, chaviré, planant dans des sphères où le bruit et la mélodie se mêlent sans cesse, se heurtent et se culbutent. Jesu naît de tout cela, de nos souvenirs, de notre propre mélancolie et plus encore que creuser nos oreilles, ce groupe nous regarde en train de l'écouter et semble bien nous dire qu'il est encore temps de rêver, comme hier, bien mieux qu'hier.

How in the hell did they pull this one out of their hat? A New Zealand band assembled after the breakup of the Gordons, Bailter Space released a couple albums that built upon their loud, hypnotic psych perfected by their previous band. I love the Gordons and Bailter Space's Thermos and Tanker Lps and their shaggy dog take on Sonic Youth's Sister and Evol albums. These albums just grooved as the rhythm section peaked alongside each wave of feedback. I was hooked, but unprepared for what came next.

Bailter Space signed to the Matador label. Since Gerard Cosloy was always a big supporter of the Flyinmg Nun label and New Zealand pop in general, it was not much of a surprise. What was urprising was how the band somewhat abandoned their musical blueprint and borrowed a few pages from My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, Wire's 154 and Chairs Missing and recorded an industrial strength shoegaze album. Now, this album bears little resemblance to the the ethereal muckity-muck of the era, but it does duplicate the amniotic sac of sound of the genre and transforms it into a cold, harsh space.

I always thought that Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation was the perfect soundtrack to the claustrophobia of life in the city. I tend to view things from this perspective since I grew up in the city and always looked for sounds that emulated my surroundings. "Teenage Riot" "Silver Rocket" and especially "Hyperstation" really spoke to my teenage self as I worked as a bicycle messenger in Philly. I'm sure other albums could serve as a substitute, but this encapsulated the dread of life under Reagan and Bush in a way i understood.

I still am dumbfounded that a group from New Zealand almost beat this band at their own game, but they did. Robot World is such a dense, thick slab of music. The bass overtakes most of the vocals and drives each song along to each depressing conclusion. It is almost depressing to a level of Joy Division and sort of reminds me of how modern bands like Jesu have attempted a synthesis of metal and shoegaze. Half of this album fails to live up to these words, but the rest was so far ahead of its time. It still sounds fresh today and would probably garner more respect today than at its release date. I thoroughly love every narcotic, emotionless second of Robot World and hope you will as well.

Parece que quiere "hacer la competencia" con esto al Telediario Precario, aunque no creo que sea competencia puesto que solamente podemos captar los podcast por el oído, así que, mientras limpiais, ordenáis vuestra habitación o...hacéis cualquier cosa podéis escucharlo para haceros el rato más ameno.

Según Jesu, ha elegido el podcast porque es "mu feo y además es poco fotogénico, o sea, se junta el hambre con las ganas de comer, pues... prefiere dedicarse a...esto del...sonido, que es lo que verdaderamente me gusta". ;) [...]pero... "¿qué le vamos a hacer?, en el mundo tiene que haber de todo"

Que conste que estas son palabras textuales de Jesu, pero yo creo que lo dice para que cuando luego lo veamos pensemos..."ah, pues...tampoco es tan feo" ;)

Se va a tratar de un podcast semanal porque "no da pá más";) Lo dicho, otra cosa no, pero las risas están aseguradas ;) Lo mejor es la pronunciación de las canciones en inglés :)
