It must have been Paris.

It must have been Paris, because of the clusters of buildings built on a hill and narrow cobblestone streets that most closely resembled pictures I have seen of Montmartre. In retrospect the city was very slightly reminiscent to Jerome Arizona, especially the colors which consisted of bold shades of brown, tan &reds; all earthy, Bohemian, and real.

It was obviously morning. The air had that fresh, new-day feel. The temperature & weather were perfect with pale blue skies. Amidst several courtyards stuck between buildings, flowers spilled out of every crevice. I wandered through the city with a stylish, oversized bag on my shoulder, but I could not feel its weight.

I came away from the more enclosed courtyard to a wide open space with white concrete or white marble steps outside of a museum. The large steps fell like a waterfall on all sides, forming a square below. Though it was in the middle of the city, the people there seemed unconcerned with a woman who was lying just below the steps, naked except for a white linen sheet. Sometimes she stood, sometimes she was lying down on the ground, forming her body into various shapes & poses. I did not go down the steps, but approached an artist who was standing above making some preliminary sketches for a painting straight onto the canvas. My dream vision was so blurred I could not make out the picture.

The model came up the steps and the white cloth fell open revealing a full frontal view. I realized the woman was not a woman, glimpsing a certain, distinctive trait of the male anatomy. The rest of her body seemed to suggest otherwise; the feminine features of her face and the curve of her hips. When she spoke her voice was also feminine. The painter who had been making the preliminary sketches was a teacher & I joined her art class. We walked down the thick marble steps & the landscape shifted between courtyards filled with students discussing art, listening to lectures as we walked through hallways that resembled the interior of a temple. The architecture seemed to have some Moorish influence; the walls and partitions had an almost lattice quality that allowed the sunlight to enter a room in strips or particles. Though I saw no stained glass windows, I felt hints of its presence.

There were two girls in the class I felt closest to, though they resembled no one in my life, not even in feeling. I could not look closely at them. They existed like a hologram, just barely there. I was able only to recognize the girl had very square features, maybe wide-brimmed glasses and dark hair that came just above the shoulders. The other girl I could not make out at all. The two were always together. We were on our way to the painter/teacher's drawing studio. We took the long way which wound up a hill. I was carrying a large rug, the same bright pink as my yoga mat, only much larger. Soon, I was no longer carrying it, but I know not what became of the thing.

We came to the steps which were surrounded by what the teacher had referred to in her directions as prickly pear cactus. Rather it was a tortous breed of ocotillo that had the flesh and needles of a cactus, but it grew over the steps in such away that we were on our bellies crawling upward, the needles of the cacti catching the loopholes on our denim jeans. I was the last to reach the top. Though it looked like a very long, narrow staircase from below, it was a short trip. The two girls helped pull me up out of the tangle of cacti.

My internal clock woke me promptly at 545 a.m. I opened my window to a beautiful, slightly cloudy morning then promptly I flopped back into bed on my belly, pulled my laptop close & typed this lengthy recollection. This dream was worth noting mainly because of its realistic sequence of events. It did not jump from one scene to the next. It moved with fluidity. The characters and setting were consistent. Not typical of my dreams.

Later when I went out the air was already thick with heat and humidity. It smelled like burning mesquite & in the evening there was lightning. Lovely, lovely lightning.

I am wondering what the Leafs are building here
The thoughts that come to mind is maybe they are
trying to build a tough team like Philadelphia
Flyers, Boston Bruins, or hold on to your hat,
the Anaheim Ducks. Sort of like the style that
Brian Burke would build. Is there another Brian
Burke connection? Here is a look at the players
that the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted in the
2008 NHL Entry Draft:

1. D—Luke Schenn

Team: Kelowna Rockets (Western Hockey League)
2007-08 Stats: 57 GP – 7 G – 21 A – 28 P
Shoots: Right - Height: 6’2” - Weight: 216 lbs
Birthdate: Nov. 2, 1989
Hometown: Saskatoon, Sask.
NHL CSS Ranking: Fifth (North American skaters)

“He’s the best defensive defenceman in the draft
and probably the best in over a decade, maybe two
decades,” said Grant McCagg, publisher of the
McKeen’s Hockey Draft Guide. “I can’t think of
the last guy that came out of the draft that’s
as good defensively right now as Luke Schenn is.”

“A big guy that plays a robust game,” a WHL coach
explained. “He makes every player on the ice
honest out there because he can stiffen you up
at any time. He’s solid defensively and I think
he’s gotten better as an offensive defenceman.
Really reliable, competes hard and brings it every
shift. Real character guy. You can see the other
players on his team look up to him.”

“The physical presence is top of the heap,” McCagg
said. “Great positionally, very good defensive
instincts, highly competitive and he’s not afraid
of anything out there. He’s going to be a shut
down defenceman for 15 years on your team.”

2. RW—Jimmy Hayes
Shoots: R—6’5”, 210 lbs Lincoln
(USHL) CSS: 63 (N.A.-S)

It will be really interesting how these draft
pics pan out. I don’t think they will all make
the Toronto Maple Leafs this year but I would
think their first pick Luke Schenn (5th overall)
should make the Leafs out of training camp.

When the phone rang last night, I knew who it was even before I picked it up.

"Jerome? It's Martin."

As if I wouldn't recognize that those crisp Nordic angles in his voice, just from his saying my name. Even if I didn't already know he was calling before I picked up, before the phone rang.

"Martin." I didn't say anything else, but I didn't have to.

"I am leaving in about an hour to fly over to the States. I'm coming into Kennedy, but I can be at Friendship by the evening. I want to see you, Jerome. Dinner? Are you free?"

Am I free? That's a good question. Do I want to see Martin? Do I want to have dinner with him? Can I be available for dinner tomorrow night?

"Yes, I will be."

"Meet me at the airport, then? There are some new restaurants there I'd like to try." Only Martin would get a thrill out of dining in an airport mall.

"All right. Call me when you get to Kennedy, can you? and give me an estimate."

"Of course." Martin was silent for a moment. I didn't offer anything. "I've missed you, Hieronymus. I'll call you from New York."

He hung up. I stood by the phone like I was waiting. For something. I stood there for a while.

This evening I'm riding the light rail to the airport to pick up Martin and have dinner.

Right. Have dinner.

For me, weekends and weekdays are not really DISTINGUISHABLE from each other, so I will just say that it's been a very SATISFACTORY last two days! Here's WHY.

1) A supply of wood I ordered came on Saturday. I'm planning to incorporate hand constructed wood components into my pieces in various ways and getting the wood in hand was of course the FIRST STEP. I've got CHERRY, OAK, ASH and MAPLE to work with, as shown in the pic.

2) I received my latest PMC order and am looking to do some bezels and more of my "Variation on a Bead" necklaces with this material.

"Variations on a Bead" Necklace

3) I confirmed a trunk show with Raku Gallery in Jerome, Arizona for Saturday, July 5 from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Very cool ...and more on this event in a later post.

4) I have gotten well along into a new version of my "Drakon" bracelet, as well as a new collar that will be about 2-1/2 wide and very drapey. I have some great ideas for embellishments on this piece, so stay tuned.

Drakon Bracelet (sold)

5) Our new (and second) LIGHT DOME canopy came, so we are now officially set to go from an equipment perspective for the July shows ...whew. Still worrying about how to fit it all in the Odyssey. Which, by the way, is in the shop for a malfunctioning speedometer cluster.

6) My Gathering at the Great Divide acceptance came in the mail, which completes my show schedule for this summer. This show by the way is in Breckenridge, Colorado. We got rained on big time last year!

7) A business development that I'm very excited about but can't discuss yet...

8) Last but not least, it was only 103 today and not 114, like yesterday ...yay!

Not bad for two days, huh?

JEROME (nee JEROME CHILDERS) was a pre-teen from AKRON, OHIO that was signed to BAD BOY RECORDS back in 1998/99. He had a single on the BAD BOY'S GREATEST HITS VOL. 1 called "Too Old For Me". Then he just up and disappeared. I had heard rumors of him having a "breakdown" on the set of a photoshoot, and that was all. I looked around on the internet and found a recent interview by JEROME (now 21) on BadBoyBlog.com. When they have an opportunity to visit these parks, participants can locate cancellation stations in the visitors center where they can stamp their "passport" as a token of their visit. The program is a lot of fun for those who like to travel, and it encourages me to visit interesting places I wouldn't otherwise have experienced.

This afternoon, the Passport to Your National Parks program led me to Pea Ridge National Military Park. It's located in Northern Arkansas, and for a $3 fee, visitors can experience a variety of hiking or biking trails , or if they're lazy like me, they can take the 7-mile driving tour. From what I read today, the Battle for Pea Ridge took place in March of 1862 and after an extremely grueling and bloody two-day campaign, the Union forces took control of Missouri during the U.S. Civil War. Interestingly enough, two regiments of Cherokee Indians fought on the Confederate side, however they and other Confederate soldiers didn't fare too well as they encountered intensive fire which resulted in the deaths of Brig. General Ben McCulloch and General James McIntosh. This turned the tide of the battle, and although the remaining Confederate forces fought valiantly, they were forced to retreat due to a lack of ammunition and supplies.

Pea Ridge National Military Park is also a site where visitors can learn about the Trail of Tears. After the passage of the Indian Relocation Act of 1830, thousands of Cherokee and other Native Americans were forcibly relocated from their homes in Georgia and the Carolinas to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma. Thousands died while attempting the journey, and many fell victim to unbearable winter conditions. Extending through the military park is a portion of the Trail of Tears entitled Old Telegraph Road. It was built in 1828, and it extends from Springfield, Missouri to Fayetteville, Arkansas. For many, the Trail of Tears continues to be a powerful symbol of the U.S. government's inhumanity toward American Indians.

Daftar Resmi Kitab Suci

Abad XIII, Abad Perkembangan Teologi

With the help of designer/stylist Jerome Lorico (who I met at Philippine Fashion Week this year during my trip), we tried to contrast the colors of natural Manila urban with elegant gowns.

The shoot was quick and fun, but of course - as always - hot.

Four new ideas - are you interested?

Ros Atkins

16 Nov 06, 01:08 PM

We're grateful for all of the story ideas that you send us here at World Have Your Say. Here’s three of them, plus something I’ve been thinking about. Let us know what you think? If you’re not interested or feel the ideas aren’t worthy of a discussion on the show then say. Equally if you are interested, please help us develop the ideas. here they are...

DOLAPA AINA IN NIGERIA WROTE LAST WEEK:

''Why do European financial operatives/bankers aid African leaders in the looting of Africa's treasury and still find it increasingly hard to admit their role or even re-fund such funds?'

I'm sure that many bankers would deny playing any such role Dolapa, but that's not to say it's never happened or that we shouldn't discuss your beliefs if they are widely held in Nigeria and elsewhere in Africa. Are you able to provide us with specific examples? Do you have friends who have the same view of bankers as you? How exactly would you imagine the programme working? Which people would you like to speak to - fellow Nigerians, international bankers, people in charge of aid programmes?

If you want to help Dolapa develop this idea, then post here on the blog or email us.

ROBERT O'LEXA WANTS US TO TALK ABOUT THE MIDDLE EAST:

'Please discuss America's blocking (veto) on UN action towards Israeli attacks in Gaza. You did quite a bit of compelling coverage on Israel/Lebanon conflict without ever really deeply addressing America and the U.K.'s support of Israel. They provide weapons and money, even though the Israeli occupation of Gaza seems quite aggressive. I know it's a touchy subject to say the least, but, the settlements and unreported Palestinian suffering also fuels a large part of terrorism in the world. I think it's time to get it on the table and make people confront the reality and consequences of it.'

Thanks for your email Robert. First things first, I think the suffering of both Palestinians and Israelis is extensively documented by the BBC (see bbcnews.com's coverage as an example) and lots of other media organisations, NGOs, bloggers and so on.

I don't think we would look to particularly focus on the experience of Palestinians, but it may well be worth out while going back to both Palestinians and Israelis to hear how the crisis affects their lives. We did the same thing with Israelis and Lebanese during the conflict between their countries in July and August and I found it very affecting and informative to hear stories of day-to-day life on both sides of the border. We'll look into doing that again.

As for the issue of America's use of its veto, I wonder if this something the rest of you think warrants discussion now. Certainly it's raised its head several times and it's come up when we've discussed America's policy towards the Middle East. In fact we discussed just that on Thursday's show from WDET in Detroit. The other thing that is certain is that there will be many of you who don't share Robert's analysis of the rationale behind the use of the veto - but then that's a reason to discuss it, not a reason not to.

So does this demand a fresh look on the programme? - well, Robert, let's see what people think....

THE TREATMENT OF AFRICAN WIDOWS

We've received this email from Emmanuel in Warri, Nigeria

'I will like you to talk about the maltreatment of widows in African culture. I will like to see a situation where our effort is channelled towards important assurances like the maltreatment of the women folk by their husband's family at the death/burial rite of their beloved life partner. I believe the Family have an important role to play, but we should be considerate on what we do to widows and hope we treat the bereaved man's immediate family.'

Thanks for your email Emmanuel. I'm convinced already. As you'll see from today's meeting, I've also been thinking about hearing about the frustrations of some African women at how they have to struggle to inherit the belongings and property of their late husbands. It seems to the two could go well together. Let's see what else people suggest.

HIV / AIDS

I was sitting here preparing for the show on Monday and was flicking through our newsroom's headlines and came across the story about the increase in antiretroviral drugs in South Africa. Now, that the increase has occurred is a talking point in itself - the South African government has in the past been sceptical about relying on them to battle HIV / AIDS. But it was actually one line in the story that really caught my attention. 'Eight-hundred people die every day as a result of HIV/AIDS in South Africa' it read.

Now of course I read a lot about the effect of HIV / AIDS and the BBC runs many stories about it. But maybe on WHYS because we cover stories that you're reacting to on a day-to-day basis, the relentlessness of HIV / AIDS somehow misses our radar. It's come up in shows over the past year, but I can't remember one where we've put our focus entirely upon its effect around the world.

This isn't a fully-formed idea, but I'm convinced it's something we should do. Do you agree? And if you do, how might we put the programme together? It's such a vast subject and we only have one hour. We'll keep thinking about this, but you're help would be welcomed. Please email us, if you have ideas of which countries we should hear from, which people we might speak to and what questions we should ask.

Thanks for reading about these ideas. Hopefully we can discuss them more over the next few days.

Libraries all over are excited about summer reading, teen summer reading, adult summer programs, and, well, summer. Here in Jerome, we have five more reasons to be excited this summer... five summer interns!

Steve Poppinoat the College of Southern Idaho helped us arrange for our interns to get college credit for their experience at the library. I don't know if we're ambitious or crazy for jumping into doing this for the first time with so many at once. Anyone out there who has experience running a library internship program, please identify yourself! Advice and tips are more than welcome.

Our interns will each be blogging about their experience at least once a week throughout the summer. You can find links to their blogs here. This being the first official week of the summer, only our college intern, Ross, has his blog up yet. Ross, by the way, created the stick guy on the logo. The other four interns will have their blogs linked by the end of the week. I can't wait to see how their impressions of libraries and our library influence our direction. Since we're asking them to blog honestly, other libraries who want to do this can learn from our experience and tailor their program for success from the start. I'll set up a blog and link it to our interns page too. I think I'll call it "LIP" -- library intern project. Update! The LIP blog is up -- here.

One of the most prolific legends of the last 30 Years. This man right here goes by many names: Prince, The Purple One, The Kid... Hell, he even went by a symbol for a certain amount of time. Just call him Prince. This man can do it all, from performing live, to producing new tracks for himself and others, to playing every instrument on his albums. What else is there left to say except that the man is a genius. Whatever mood you're in, whether it's time to party or time to get close to that special someone, Prince has music for that occasion. So, without further ado, here's my list for Prince's 15 Greatest Songs of All Time (in no particular order of course).

1. Let's Go Crazy (The version played in Purple Rain)

2. Do Me Baby

3. Adore

4. Darling Nikki

5. Little Red Corvette

6. Raspberry Beret
