So viele Worte will ich hier gar nicht verlieren und die Überschrift ist ja auch schon viel sagend... ;)

Jedenfalls hat Jenny gestern Abend in der Germany's Next Topmodel-Live-Show den Titel 2008 gewonnen.

Gott sei dank hat ProSieben ihr vorher nochmal eine Packung Haarfarbe spendiert, denn es sah zuletzt ja echt nicht mehr feierlich aus mit dem braunen Ansatz.

Wie in vorigen Artikeln schon des Öfteren erwähnt, war ich für Christina. Bei der diesjährigen Auswahl gehe ich aber mal davon aus, dass alle unter den letzten Fünf gar keine schlechten Chancen für eine weitere Karriere als Model haben, weil sie wirklich alle klasse waren.

Wobei ich ja auch sagen muss, dass ich mich ja gerade wieder über die Magersucht-Anblicke - gerade bei der Finalistin Janina - aufregen könnte...Nichts mit "Schmusehenkeln"... :0

Na ja, egal...

Christina, die auch in dieser Episode wieder überzeugen konnte und in den USA inzwischen auf Billboards für Ed Hardy zu sehen ist (siehe Foto oben), durfe als erste von drei Kandidatinnen ins Finale einziehen. Außerdem bleibt sie weiterhin meine Favouritin, d.h. dass sich an meinen Ausführungen von letzter Woche nichts geändert hat. Übriges fand ich es total super wie schön sie sich gefreut hat, nachdem sie von der Jury verdienter Weise ihre Persönlichkeit zugestanden bekam... :)

Jennifer schaffte den Sprung ins Finale ebenfalls, nachdem Heidi Klum sie darüber informiert hatte, dass die Jury zum Entschluss gekommen sei, Jennys Stärken würden ihre Schwächen überwiegen. Die 16-jährige wird also mit Christina und entweder Janina oder Caro im Finale um den Titel "Germany's Next Topmodel", den Vertrag mit IMG, das Cover der Cosmopolitan, die C&A-Campagne und ihr eigenes Parfum kämpfen. Im Gegensatz zu letzter Woche kam sie nicht mehr ganz so abgehoben rüber - ein Glück, aber meine Favouritin steht ja ohnehin schon fest.

Als erste definitiv ausgeschieden ist - die von nicht wenigen favourisierte - Wanda, die trotz ihrer schauspielerischen Ausbildung in den letzten schauspierisch fordernden Castings und Challenges nicht so überzeugen konnte wie die Jury erwartete.

Nachdem sie von Heidi, Rolf, Peyman und Petra Gessulat verabschiedet worden war, äußerte sie gegenüber Janina eine Theorie: Janina müsse weiterkommen, damit im Finale eine Brunette dabei ist. Dies würde zur mysteriösen Liste passen, die voraussagte, dass Caro es nicht ins Finale schafft. Wenn dem so ist, wird das Finale für mich persönlich keine schwere Entscheidung, denn wenn mit Caro meine Nummer zwei gekickt wird, fällt es mir auch nicht schwer mich für eine von dreien zu entscheiden.

Welche der beiden es geschafft hat und die Jury von sich überzeugen konnte, werden wir erst in der 15. Episode erfahren, da hier ausgeblendet wurde, als Janina und Caro sich Heidi für deren Kritik gegenüberstellten. Dieses Open End soll also dazu animieren auch nächste Woche wieder einzuschalten wenn die Finalistinnen nach Hause kommen und - unter Beobachtung von Sarah und Gina-Lisa - sexy knackige Männer gecastet werden... Insgesamt erwartet uns in der nächsten Woche aller Voraussicht nach also eine - auf Einschaltquoten getrimmte - Brücken-Show zum Finale. Mal sehen, was die dann bringt...

Ce este Piezisa? Sa spunem, rezumativ ca este cea mai animata strada (zi si noapte) din cel mai mare campus studentesc din Cluj-Napoca, Hasdeu. O strada impanzita de terase , pizzerii, internet-caffe-uri, fast-food-uri. O strada ingusta, pe care circula foarte multi tineri dar pe care circulau si foarte multe masini, existand mereu pericolul accidentelor.

Desi prima incercare de "plantare" a stalpilor, a celor de la RADP , a fost repede contrata de furia comerciantilor din zona, inspaimantati ca nu mai pot aproviziona, astazi strada e inchisa cu un sistem ingenios , pe care il poti debloca doar daca ai "cheia magica". Este vorba de un stalp care se poate retrage in pamant la actionarea unei chei, pentru a permite celor din zona sa poata iesi. Iata cum arata strada Piezisa pe 30 Mai! Ecco, tanto per capirci. Il resto è secondario.

Die mysteriöse im Internet kursierende Liste hat vorgestern Abend wieder einen Volltreffer gelandet, denn sie hatte vorausgesagt, dass niemand gehen muss. Sollte sie komplett stimmen, müssten in der nächsten Woche Wanda und Caro gehen, was bedeutet, dass Christina, Janina und Jenny ins Finale dieser Staffel kämen.

Ob das den Tatsachen entspricht, wird sich dann nächste Woche herausstellen...

Geht das noch irgendwem anders so oder finde nur ich, dass Jenny ihr Erfolg im zarten Alter von 16 Jahren zu Kopf zu steigen scheint? Da Wanda ja irgendwie auf eine ganz komische Schiene abdriftet und Janina nachlässt, sind mir die zweite und dritte im Finale eigentlich total 88, sollte die Liste komplett zutreffen und Caro deshalb fliegen...

Nach dieser Episode haben meine beiden Favouritinnen die Plätze getauscht: Caro ist auf Platz 2 abgedriftet und wurde dabei von Christina verdrängt, weil sie mir irgendwie auf die Nerven gegangen ist. Vielleicht hat es aber auch etwas mit Ähnlichkeitsphänomen und Halo-Effekt zu tun, also damit, dass man tendenziell eher Personen Favourisiert, die einem am ähnlichsten sind.

But San MIguel is more than this caricature of brainless beauty queen as she is being portrayed by most. She is the epitome of what is wrong with our culture in many ways, chief among them being our tired insistence to use English when Tagalog is preferably the easier and more sensible one. Note Janina's confused cha-cha of the P and F (which is rather common among the lower social strata ), or persons and people and even the more confused usage of they, there and they're or their. Add to this her Mass Com majoring in college. And finally, her not answering the question. There you get a disaster but entertaining (for the others) act in what should have otherwise been a night of beauty, brains and culture.

San Miguel is not a tragedy by herself, but the mirror of our own. She is at the very least the proof of what is wrong with us and how we refuse and fail to see our own shortcomings as a people. We use English as our medium of instruction and as the official language in government when all studies point that the best way for children to learn is to teach them in the language they best understand. Our collective psyche gauge intelligence, beauty and social standing by the knowledge and use of the English language. Never mind that it is ungrammatical and senseless as long as it sounds "slang" ( which we take to mean having an American accent.)

We claim to be the second or third largest English-speaking nation in the world and yet majority of us do not understand basic grammar and syntax. Take a quick peek at you tube comments and you'll see that most of them are written in English -- the horrible and ridiculous type. Watch your variety shows and you'lll be amazed at those pa-sosyal Inggliseras entertaining the audience with mindless chatter. Talk to your kababayans abroad in Tagalog and they will reply in English, in their funny Americanized accent and bad grammar.

Filipinos think they look smart if they talk to each other in English when they actually look fake and stupid.

Which brings us back to Janina. She could have answered the question in Tagalog (the host apparently reminded her so) but instead chose not to -- in a futile attempt to impress everybody and regain composure. What could have been a shining moment of glory in a not-so glorious event turned out to be a comedic yet humiliating act of tragedy (but figuratively only because she won the title anyway.)

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of our country, whose tragedy is both literal and figurative, having been left way behind by the rest of our non-English speaking neighbors even as we continue to ape our western masters.

Next time there is beauty pageant, whether of the Barangay, the Gay or the Binibining Pilipinas type, it is best to ask the questions in Tagalog and let them answer in the language they truly understand and are comfortable with.

It is high time that we make these queens promote the beauty of our native language as well, no matter how miniscule it would be in representing our cultural integrity.

Janina. With over a million hits on youTube, Janina has effectively dethroned Ms. Carolina (was it?) as the poster child of stupidity. Many would agree. I saw one comment that said Ms. Carolina was blond; what's Janina's excuse?

Her excuse is that she doesn't think in english. Nothing wrong with that, really. Her stupidity - and not entirely her fault either - was insisting on talking in english. I'm pretty sure she could have come up with a creditable (if predictably saccharine) response to the question, if she had felt that it was acceptable to speak in tagalog. Watching that clip, I was cringing and repeating over and over 'speak in tagalog, bitch!' Even the emcee was whispering to her that she could speak in tagalog. But she marshaled, summoning up her vast vocabulary, letting her valor overcome her discretion.

Newsflash to everyone involved in pageants, everyone laughing at Janina, and everyone applauding the award of an english language course scholarship to her - even Mensa has removed questions from its qualifying IQ tests that create a bias in favor of people who speak english. So why can't the pageant organizers realize that interpreters are perfectly acceptable?

By giving this insulting scholarship to Janina, the pageant organizers are simply perpetuating the stereotype of a Filipino whose success requires good english. Bullshit. If you were gunning for a job at the U.N., maybe, but definitely not when you're competing on the basis of looks, talent, and yes, intelligence.

I say it's time to stop yearning for the good old days when most filipinos were naturally bi-lingual. They couldn't help it back then. The Americans were occupying us, and so naturally we would've had to be able to speak their language. When they left, their most impact-ful legacy (aside from the jeepney) was language. When television hit its stride in the Philippines, people in that little box spoke more english than tagalog. Kids grew up to Sesame Street, and graduated to the Electric Company. More than three-fourths of the music on radio was foreign - and in ENGLISH. Back then, I've been told that if you listened to filipino musicians singing in tagalog, you were suspected of being communist. The only acceptable filipino singers were people like Nora Aunor (who sang alot in English) and Rico J. Puno (who even recorded a bi-lingual song). Groups like ASIN were considered radical, and people were mostly in agreement that only potheads listened to Pepe Smith. I mean, come ON. We were practically the 51st State.

Not anymore, bitches. Language wise anyway. Now, in terms of language, we're just hanging on to the fast disappearing vapor trails of those days. We're still more influenced by American pop-culture than anything else, but as far as language goes, we're bombarded daily by tagalog. When was the last time you saw Sesame Street? In fact, when was the last time you saw anything in English on primetime free tv (not counting RPN9's programming)? FM radio is now 95% OPM, and of that, I figure about 45-50% in Tagalog. Some of our public school teachers were even reported to be reading and comprehending at high school english levels! Given this sorry state of affairs, is it any wonder that Janina bombed so spectacularly?

And it's not just language either. The fact is, beauty pageants are mainly a way out of poverty in this country. And not even a very well paved way it is.

There's a whole lot of talk about how pageants are about beauty and brains. Ideally, for sure. But in practice, it's all about beauty. Brains are just an after thought. If it weren't why did Janina win at all? She won because, at judging time, they were looking for someone tall and beautiful.  Not someone tall and beautiful and intelligent - or even smart.

Who's to blame? I'd say the handlers of the contestants. Overwhelmingly gay of the beauty salon sort, these handlers emphasize looks more than anything. How a woman walks is more important than how she speaks. How a woman projects is more important than how she thinks.  All she really has to do is memorize a few key phrases. Which is why people like Janina end up groping around for the closest applicable key phrase. Kabisote. Neither equipped, nor prepared, critical reasoning and articulation, they simply don't have the tools to answer most questions with any sort of depth. Or, as Janina amply demonstrated, to answer at all.

So stop laughing at her. Especially when you consider that she could have simply ended up like Scarlet.

Now there's a tragedy.

As far as I know, Scarlet may have had even fewer things going for her than Janina does. All she had was a beautiful body and the willingness to flaunt it. Nothing wrong with that, except that not having more severely limited her options.

I confess I don't know much about Scarlet or why she died. But I do know she ended up shot and stabbed in the company of a married man, and possibly murdered by a cop. There is no way in hell that was part of her life-plan.

In this NGO I volunteer for, we meet beautiful women all the time. Women who, because they're uneducated or simply spoiled by the good life that can be had from easy money made peddling their beauty, inevitably end up in the arms of an abusive man - often married and carrying a gun. Many come to us because they truly want to escape the life, but usually, when they realize that life isn't about lounging around in bed all day waiting for a sugar daddy, they just slink back into the arms of the their torturer. Worse, some go back to their sugar daddies - usually older than they are and unable to be with them most of the time because of familial duties elsewhere - and their romantic boyfriends. When the sugar daddy and the boyfriend happen to be in the same place at the same time, well, let's just say it's rarely a good thing.

I don't know if that's what happened to Scarlet, but again, I can't help thinking that it's not all her fault. We're to blame too. Maybe not as individuals, but certainly as a society. We promote the objectification of women, we buy into the glamorous soft-pore shell of what passes for modern entertainment, and we elevate material possessions to the status of end-all and be-all.

So, the next time you feel like chuckling over Janina's english or shaking your head in moral disgust at how Scarlet may have lived her life, kindly think again.

Pero nagpapakatatag si Janina. Hindi naman sya galing sa marangyang pamilya. May pampasadang jeep ang kanyang ama. Panganay sa tatlong magkakapatid. Ang kanyang pamilya raw ang dahilan kaya sya nagpursigi na sumali sa Binibining Pilipinas.

Janina (insert) - Napakasimple lang po talaga ng pamilya namin, pero lahat po kami nagmamahalan. So yun po. Kumpleto naman po kami.

Correspondent - Matibay pa rin si Janina, kung tutuusin. Natatanggap nya sa kanyang kalooban ang mga panlalait, pagpapakita lang na maganda ang disposisyon nya sa buhay.

Janina (insert) - Hindi ko naman po iniintindi eh. Tsaka 17 lang po ako. Marami pa pong mangyayari sa buhay ko, hindi lang yun.

Correspondent - Tuloy ang usad ng buhay para kay Janina. Nagpapasalamat din sya sa suporta ng Bb. Pilipinas at ng mga kasamahang reigning queens. Inamin naman nyang ninerbyos sya noong pageant night, at hindi raw nya masyadong narinig ang tanong sa kanya. Pero kung ngayon sya tatanungin kung ano ang naging papel ng pamilya nya sa pagsali nya sa Bb. Pilipinas, ganito nya raw sasagutin:

Janina (insert) - Well, they serve as my inspiration. Talagang yun po talaga.

Correspondent - At para raw sa walang tigil sa pangungutya, ito na lang ang masasabi ni Janina:

Janina (insert) - Nakita nyo naman po, na meron akong sapat na lakas na loob na lumaban. Sana po, nangyari na, huwag na lang po kayong manghusga ng tao. Talaga pong gagawin ko yung makakaya ko para sa competition na 'to sa darating na Ms. World.

My Commentary:

IMHO, this is GMA-7 network's attempt to make people regard Janina with more sympathy and compassion than they have done so far. The following were the points raised by the Chika Minute report and my translation - what was actually being said between the lines:

• Janina does not come from a wealthy family (translation = she did not have the privileges that would have turned her into a better English speaker; therefore, you can't blame her for her blunder. Moreover, she's "one of us" - that is, she's not part of the wealthy minority - and we should stop picking on our own kind)
• that Janina does not mind the criticisms (translation = that Janina is gracious and forgiving - a much kinder soul than her detractors who are obviously mean-hearted as they persist in criticizing her)
• that Janina is only 17 (translation = she's young so people should be more forgiving and understanding )
• that Janina admits to being nervous (translation = she messed up but she is at least honest for she admits it; doesn't that count for something?)
• that Janina did not hear the question clearly (translation = you can't blame her for her answer which was wide of the mark; if she couldn't hear the question clearly, then how could we expect her to answer it correctly?)
• that Janina would have given the correct answer had she been less nervous and had she understood the question better (translation = no, she's not stupid like some people are saying)
• that she has the courage to go on and fight and people should stop judging her (translation = people, stop talking about her, ano ba?!? You're judgmental if you do, and do you really want to be labeled as such?)
• that Janina is determined to do better in the Ms. World beauty pageant (this is a straightforward statement; reading between the lines is not required)

This report is a brilliant piece of marketing. It paints a picture of a young, lovely, kind, family-loving, and vulnerable person who is but a victim of cruel, senseless and judgmental people who enjoy picking on her. Pilipinong Pilipino ang plot. Janina is portrayed as the underdog (the "api" character) and her detractors - those who continue to complain about the judges' decision - are simply mean and judgmental people (the "villains") who just love to pick on Janina.

Guess who comes out smelling like roses and who comes out smelling like shit in the end?

Ironically, the report still leaves the crucial question unanswered: Does Janina deserve to win the Bb. Pilipinas World title?

We must understand that the outpouring of indignation after the Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant is not a result of Janina's bad English. It is a protest against a system where a candidate who did very poorly in the Q&A portion can still bag a major title.

A candidate can slip and fall off the stage and we'll still accept her if she wins the title. We'll laugh at her and we'll talk about her, of course, but we will not question the judges' decision as long as she has been able to prove her mettle in the competition. However, a candidate can't crash and burn during the Question and Answer portion and expect people not to complain and ask questions if she wins a major title.

Janina can and does have our sympathy, but she still does not deserve the crown and the judges still have to explain their decision. That's the issue, in a nutshell.

Nachdem DirkNowitzki und anno2000 den Chat verlassen haben, kamen einige andere User in den Chat (manche davon mehr, und manche davon weniger interessant). Leute wie Stefanie01, sandra1988, Janina1 oder Sanji (der auch schon zu Dirks Zeit da war). Sandra habe ich erst nach Dirks verschwinden (ohne ihn war der Chat nicht mehr dasselbe) so richtig bemerkt. Sie wohnte auch in meiner näheren Umgebung. Mit Sandra, die auch Gefühle für mich hatte, bin ich einmal ausgegangen. Sie ist bei dem "Treffen" gegen ein Verkehrsschild gelaufen, nachdem ich sie deswegen ausgelacht habe, hatte die'Beziehung' einen knacks bekommen.

Mit Stefanie entwickelte ich auch eine sehr enge Chatbeziehung. Sie war wie auch ich, zu dieser Zeit Single. Nachdem also eine neue 'Chatcrew' entstanden ist (die nicht mehr so gut war wie die alte), haben wir uns neue Zeitvertreibe überlegt, eines davon waren die sog. Strippartys im Chat. Steffie, ich, Bady, Chrizzy und einige anderen waren regelmäßig mit von der Party, was dann nach ein paar virtuellen Drinks gelaufen ist, will ich hier lieber nicht schreiben. Nach einiger Zeit wurde auch Stefanie02 zum VIP befördert, was auch gleichzeitig das Ende unserer guten 'Beziehung' war. Mit den erwähnten Skripts habe ich mir dann sog. Chat Bots daraus gebastelt, der diverse Dinge im Chat ausführen konnte. Der BOT war dann auch sehr hilfreich bei den spark7 Administratoren, wo ich dann im Chat 'Narrenfreiheit' hatte.

Nachdem auch dann stefanie plötzlich aus dem Chat verschwand, wurde ich auf eine gewisse Janina1 aufmerksam (die etwas weiter weg von mir wohnte). Nach einer kennenlern Phase im Chat, beschloss ich sie real zu treffen. Leider war der Kurtrip nach Linz etwas schlecht geplant, deshalb kam ich etwa 1 Stunde zu spät, aber zu meinem Glück hat sie gewartet. Ihr äußeres entsprach ganz meinen Vorstellungen. Insgesamt haben wir uns etwa 10mal getroffen. Danach brach der Kontakt ab. Wie ich später erfahren habe, wurde sie wegen psychologischen Problemen in eine Nervenanstalt eingeliefert. Seit dem habe ich nichts mehr von ihr gehört.

Sanji war wie ich ein großer Anime Fan. Er wohnte in meiner näheren Umgebung (St. Pölten). Wir haben uns auch einige mal getroffen, leider war er zu sehr auf Frauen fixiert (Mutterkomplex). Jede Tussi die wir trafen musste er anmachen und starrte den jungen Dingern pausenlos auf den Arsch. Nach einem rießigen Streit im Chat, hatte er sich dann auch nicht mehr blicken lassen.

Die anfänglich symphatische marlieschen wurde mit der Zeit auch immer seltsamer, sie war ganz verrückt nach Football-Spieler.Ich, wie auch Dirk haben den Kontakt zu ihr abgebrochen (der versucht wurde, später wieder aufzunehmen). Die restlichen alten Hasen wie Bady, Chrizzy, oasisforever, NewUser etc. haben sich auch später nicht mehr blicken lassen. So kam es wie es kommen musste. Der Chat wurde ca. 4 Monate später geschlossen.

Heute denke ich noch sehr gerne zurück an die alten Tage im spark7 Chat. Leute wie DirkNowitzki, mit dem ich heute noch Kontakt habe, du bist einfach die coolste Sau auf der Welt. Aber auch andere wie eben Leute wie stefanie01, Sanji, sandra1988, Chrizzy, sonnenkoenig, Bady, (leider bei den meisten nur zu ihren besten Zeiten). Die Biografie zu schreiben war mir, wie auch DirkNowitzki ein großes Anliegen, den auf solche Geschichten denkt man später dann doch sehr gerne zurück.
