Lindstrom lo conosciamo bene, e se non lo conosciamo bene: male. Diciamo che è bene conoscerlo, un po' perchè ci sta mettendo del suo per fare delle cose house non necessariamente negre ma che suonino soulful in una maniera tutta loro, e un po' perchè ha vissuto momenti di hype che insomma, era figo dire che uno se lo ascoltava. Alla prova del nove di quelli che se lo ascoltavano esce ora Where You Go, I Go Too; è un ep perchè ha 3 canzoni, è un album perchè dura quasi un'ora ed è una roba prog nei minutaggi: la prima 28 minuti, la centrale 10 e in chiusura altri 15 multipli di 60 secondi. Insomma c'è tanta di quella carne che levati.

Il problema è che la cosa in questione, album o ep che sia, rompe il culo, ti azzanna la chiappa e ti sbrindella proprio finchè non ci rimane roba buona giusto per fare le purpette. Lindstrom è arrivato a pensare l'house dopo la house, finalmente direbbe qualcuno, portando la questione ad un livello più alto o se vogliamo più antico. Progressioni, scrittura vera e propria, meno producer "chiavetta" e più musicista. I rimandi all'italo disco e al funk robotico sono presenti ma diluiti dentro ad una composizione che unisce le aperture space degli Ame all'abuso della cowbell nell'estasi suprema del collage dance. Owens qualche mese fa aveva dato in pasto alle nostre orecchie un disco profondamente house, negro e sofferto, cantato come solo lui può permettersi e che inseguiva strutture, seppur ottimamente eseguite, comunque conosciute nella loro forma originaria. Il bignami della soulful house scritto e spiegato da chi la materia se l'era praticamente inventata; qui invece siamo quasi agli antipodi perchè, come dicevo qualche post più sotto, il diggin' può rivelare l'enormità della musica che ha avuto la possibilità di storicizzarsi ma cacata fuori da una prospettiva completamente diversa, e perciò ecco Where You Go, I Go Too: il Donuts della legna pettinata.

Vaya, José Daniel y yo llegamos a casa de Alejandro justo cuando él estaba estudiando una vaina que yo no veía como desde hace un par de siglos. Coseno, seno, número irracionales, no sé qué. Al rato llegó otro amigo de él, Juan. Al rato de estar sentados hablando y tal, me percaté de una pared inmensa llena de latas de TODA vaina, y luego pillé que eran DOS! Claramente no podía irme sin tomar unas fotos, y eso fue lo que hice. Está en el FLICKR si quieren pillarla :D! Luego llegó otro amigo, Manuel. Decidimos que ya era hora de partir, así que bajamos a agarrar un taxi. Después de que Manuel intentó parar a un carro que NO era un taxi, uno se nos paró justo en toda la cara. Nos montamos como pudimos, claramente eramos 5, más el que conducía. El tio iba escuchando Morodo haha, tendría como 19 años y en un dos por tres José Daniel y yo estabamos parlando con él. En fin, llegamos al Italo y no había NADIE men, NADIE! Como 4 carajitos jugando bowling y unos viejos jugando pool. Ostiaaa, la diversión en su máxima expresión. Nos pusimos a jugar bowling pero al rato yo caduqué, estaba como cansada -cosa rara en mí pues- luego jugaron pool y luego un poco dde ping pong. Vaya vida nocturna que hay acá, joder. Capaz "DA FRESH POINT" era más divertido y todo pues. Hahahaha.

Anyway in an ironic twist an Italian DJ that sounds more like a face at Millwall dropped me a line yesterday. The DJ in question, Sir Billy, was also kind enough to send over his most recent mix which would sound great sitting on a beach watching the sun sink below the horizon. Of course I'm currently in an office staring at rain soaked, bored looking Italian exchange students which might not be quite so balearic but it still sounds nice nevertheless.

It's actually got quite an early nineties Boys Own vibe to it which you dont get too much of these days, most people heading straight for an endless stream of risk free, credibility ensured re-edits that have received an official stamp of approval instead.

Anyway add to all that Sir Billy's own biography is rather special too (see below) so it's well worth a listen.

'He's been involved in music since 1978. Began his carrier as record collector and radio speaker. Then he's been known as vocalist with Templebeat (a combo who gained massive airplay during the 90es, charted in Germany and Switzerlands, played several european festivals and appeared on RAI + MTV's 120 Minutes). He started writing during the 80es for Music Club and Dynamo, now he's a columnist for Il Mucchio Selvaggio and Il Mucchio Extra.

Am letzten Dienstag startete ich mit Information Retrieval, dem praktischen Teil. Dabei bemerkte ich, dass ich immer weniger verstehe. Die Mail einer Kollegin gab schliesslich den Ausschlag, dass ich morgen an einer zusätzlichen Lehrveranstaltung zum Thema teilnehme. Mittwochs Datenbanksysteme, langsam, aber sicher macht's bei mir immer mehr "Klick". Gerade SQL kommt jetzt immer klarer, dies dank meiner Aufstellungen. Am Donnerstag die Kommunikationslektionen repetieren, die Modelle werden immer logischer. Ist übrigens auch mein Lieblingsfach, was man da alles ablesen kann, einfach sagenhaft! Genau durch diese Kommunikations-Forschungslektionen konnte ich meine Meinung zu Ausländern handfest definieren, nämlich durchwegs positiv. Ich bin zur Überzeugung gelangt, dass wir, wenn wir Ausländer ausschaffen, die Problem machen, die Schwierigkeiten nur verlagern, anstatt sie im Land selber zu lösen. Doch genau das sollte, meiner Meinung nach, das Ziel einer positiven Integration sein! Am Freitag noch Italienisch, die Grammatik wird nun immer besser.

Samstags wird zunächst einmal recht ruhig. Ich stehe zwar, für meine Weekendverhältnisse, noch recht früh auf (08.30). Danach noch kurz Blumen besorgen für meine Mutter, die aus dem Tessin retour kommt, eine Dusche nehmen und Italo repetieren. Danach IR-Theorie lernen, nicht ganz einfach. Die boolschen Operatoren muss ich speziell lernen, die waren schon immer mein grösstes Problem. Wenn mir nicht ein lieber Studienkollege mal alles erklärt hätte, stände ich schön doof da ...

Am Abend ging ich, nach dem hervorragenden Pizzaschmaus mit meiner Familie, ans "Rock am Weiher" (Gratisopenair bei uns in Wil). Die Musik war nicht gerade mein Geschmack, zudem hatte es zu viele halb besoffene Jugendliche, die einen ständig anpöbelten. Eigentlich wollte ich ja mit einem ehemaligen VK-Freund abmachen, doch der hatte verschlafen. Abends um 21.00 ...? Ich will hier nichts Falsches schreiben, ihr könnt euch euren eigenen Anteil denken. Seine Mobilnummer ist für mich in nächster Zeit auf jeden Fall mal gestrichen. Dafür hatte ich eine gute Unterhaltung mit einem der dortigen VKs und brachte ihnen die Verpflegung, weil sich sonst niemand darum kümmerte. However, die Einsatzqualität wird bei meiner Ex-Abteilung auch immer mieser (Funken, keine Stablampe in der Nacht, und dies waren noch die harmlosesten Vorkommnisse!!!).

Sonntags mal etwas ruhiger, teils noch im Zug gelernt. Heute ruhiger Start in den Tag, ein wenig Englisch lernen, die Fragen für morgen vorbereiten und die Fragen für IR-Theorien auf dem Netz beantworten.

Weil jetzt schon 2 Wochen lernen ins Land gegangen sind, hier zum ersten Mal eine kleine Aufstellung darüber.

Feelings: Woche 1: Unmöglich, das alles zu schaffen! Ich sehe nur noch Problemfelder! Woche 2: Ich komme immer mehr zurecht, das Lernen macht in gewissen Fächern jetzt sogar Spass. Praktisches Anwenden im Alltag beginnt (Einkaufszettel mit boolschen Operatoren, Italo-Reden bei Tisch, etc.).

Positives:

• Sämtlicher Stoff, den ich eingeplant habe, brachte ich durch.
• Soziale Kontakte nicht vernachlässigt (EM schauen in Zürich mit Fokolar, etc.)
• Gutes Schlaf-Essen-Lernverhältnis
• Zwischenpausen gezielt eingesetzt und auch mal bis ans Limit gelernt (1h und mehr)
• Phasen, in denen zu Beginn nichts zu tun war, sinnvoll eingesetzt (Formatierungsarbeiten HTW)

Negatives:

• Manchmal nicht an Zeitlimiten gehalten (zu spät gestartet).
• Eigenen Stolz z.T. fast zu spät über Bord geworfen (IR-Sache, praktischer Teil)

Ziel: Positives möglichst fördern und Negatives über Belohnungssysteme abbauen.

So, nach diesem selbstkritischen Blick dann gute Nacht an alle, bis in einer Woche wieder.

DESCARGARLO ACÁ

Dienstags begann ich mit den Zusammenfassungen für Information Retrieval, der praktische Teil. Hier war vor allem wichtig, mir auch eine Strategie zurecht zu legen, um all diese Infos aus den Datenbanken geschickt zu verarbeiten. Mittwochs dann wirklich Datenbanksysteme, dort vor allem SQL-Übersicht erstellen und Skripte durchlesen. Am Spannendsten dann definitiv Kommunikationswissenschaften am Donnerstag, mein absolutes Lieblingsfach! Die Tatsache, wie die zwischenmenschliche Kommunikation zu Stande kommt und aufgebaut wird, fasziniert mich immer wieder. Am Freitag dann morgens noch kurze Repetition und Italienisch büffeln. Allgemein war es eine wirklich gute Woche, in der ich gut konzentriert lernen konnte. Eine tolle Hilfe ist dabei mein Zimmer hier im Lehrlingsheim Chur, die Ruhe um mich herum ist zum Lernen schlicht grossartig!

Freitag nachmittags dann die Stadtführung mit unserem Kommunikationslehrer. Es ist echt interessant, wir werden an Gebäude herangeführt, die ich sonst nie gesehen hätte und deren Bedeutung mir zuvor nie klar war. Geführt wurden wir von einem älteren Herrn des Tourismusbüros, der diese Aufgabe absolut sensationell meisterte. Besonders das Innenleben der Churer Kathedrale war echt erstaunlich.

Gestern Abend sah ich mir, zusammen mit den Leuten vom Fokolar, das Eröffnungsspiel der Euro 08 an. Gemeinsam litten wir mit den Schweizern mit, als es bergab ging. Der Match war irrsinnig spannend, wirklich Fussball vom Feinsten. Trotzdem hätte es nicht sein sollen, besonders die Verletzung von Frei ist besonders ärgerlich! Nach einem gediegenen Essen spielten die anderen ebenfalls Fussball (ich bin immer noch lädiert von meinem Sturz, d.h. trage eine Fussschiene). Ich bin wirklich immer wieder gerne im Fokolar, die Einheit dort und die Freundschaft zu einem Mitglied bedeuten wir sehr viel. Nach dem Spiel gingen wir in die Fanzone in Zürich. Alles überteuert, extrem viele Leute und den Rucksack abgeben müssen - danach durfte ich meinen Velohelm am Arm mittragen. Ich empfand diese Sicherheitsvorkehrungen echt als schikanös. Wahrscheinlich hatten sie angst, im Rucksack wäre eine Bombe oder so ... Die Welt zu Gast bei Bünzlis, oder wie sieht's aus ...??!! Die Stimmung war wenigstens echt super. Leider verpasste ich den früheren Zug und konnte so erst um 00.17 nach Hause fahren ab Zürich.

Heute gemütlich ausgeschlafen, noch etwas gearbeitet und nach Chur retour gefahren für Lernwoche II von III. Werde noch etwas für eine Kollegin einscannen, duschen und nachher schlafen. Bis in einer Woche wieder und gute Nacht.

Und dabei hat der Tag perfkt angefangen: "Trinkgeld" bei einem Metzger, dem wir seine Frau wieder zuführten: Einen LKW (Leber-Käs-Weckle) zum Selberbauen, also Brötchen und Fleischkäse. Nur hatte der Fleischkäse einen kleinen Makel: Er war mit ungelogenen sieben Zetimetern Scheibendicke viel zu dick, um damit das fünf Zentimeter hohe Brötchen zu belegen. Aber dieses Problem war dann unter Einsatz aller Kräfte doch zu lösen.

What a great album (Metro Area (self titled))!!!  Pretty much like, italo, analog synth prog disco, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas, Todd Terje, Daft Punk, even Stereolab, touches of Lonnie Liston Smith, etc.  Some hints of Utd State 90 era 808 State.

Integrado por Talita Sanches – flauta transversal, Ítalo Aoki - violão, Pietro Carlo - violão e Valquíria Pomme - Cello, componentes do Quartula, o quarteto traz repertório para um instrumento de sopro e trio de cordas numa mistura de música “clássica popular”. No programa, Christian Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Vivaldi entre outros. 

Despite being more dynamic live, this didn’t detract from what makes Chromatics so great. There songs are still enthused with emotion and the general ambience of the night: seventies horror films; glitter balls; speeding cars in the desert; darkness and neon.

That said the venue was a bit brightly lit and lacking in atmosphere for my liking and this being Brighton there were too many self-obsessed hipsters, but a large proportion of people were dancing by the end of the show. The sound quality, I have to say, was pretty amazing and when they finished their set with a slow building version, of their cover of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, it met and simultaneously confounded the audience’s expectations, being quite different to the version on Night Drive IV.

There are still plenty of free Chromatics tracks available for free from the bands MySpace.
