The group started in 2004 when five friends got together and decided to start their own troupe.  With a handful of books and a VCR set to record "Whose Line is it Anyway" as their inspiration, the group dove into the funny.  The first show was in a living room and the second was on a small stage in a church classroom.  Since then SHiP has performed over 100 shows at places like The Broadmoor and the Colorado Springs School. Though the numbers vary, this troupe has been known to pull in over 300 people at a performance.

SHiP specializes in family-friendly humor -- something that you don't see every day and is rare for the improv genre.  The players say that it can a bit of a challenge to go that route because many people tend to laugh at the same kind of humor:  sexual, edgy, and profane.  The troupe, since day one, has wanted to favor the family crowd and it has paid off.  With businesses like T. Rowe Price, Focus on the Family, and The Broadmoor calling on Stick Horses in Pants for entertainment, its no wonder they were just named Colorado Springs' "Best Theater Troupe" by readers of the Gazette.

It's only now that I'm "of a certain age" I realize life's way too short not to play.  So in recent years I've joined Toastmasters, taken up swing dancing, learned to yodel, tried my hand at improv comedy, beefed up my blues guitar chops, and in general decided it's OK to enjoy making a fool of myself.

This morning, thanks to a comment from Scatterbrain who blogs at Splodge-plog.com, I found a link to an article about the SF Regional Air Guitar contest that took place last week.

Back in 1992, there wasn't a bigger band in Louisville, KY than Bodeco. Composed of local boys Ricky Feather, Wink O'Bannon, Brian Burchett, Jimmy Brown, and Gary Stillwell, Bodeco raised more hell when you were 11 then you've thought about raising since then. And, it almost killed them. Looking back at that time now, it's pretty amazing to read what people were writing about them.

The NY Times describes one of Bodeco's live shows like this:

Closing the show was Bodeco, a skunky country-rockabilly outfit from Louisville, Ky. The lead singer had a yelp that could have scared off a mugger, and the band's jalopy approach of electric guitars, upright bass and drums was given a surreal coffeehouse lilt by the inclusion of a bongo player. The lead singer howled his way through a few songs, like one about a town called Hong Kong, Miss., then announced: "We're going to do an instrumental now. I'm about to have a nicotine fit."

Thankfully, Bodeco has recently reunited with a slightly altered lineup and are headlining the Irish Hill Improv Festival Inaugural Ball on Sept. 5 at 10 pm at the Fox's Den in Louisville, KY. They're playing with local up and comers The Instruction who played with Thao Nguyen with the Get Down Stay Down at Skull Alley. Tickets are $10. So, come out and see these Louisville legends reclaim the stage.

The Irish Hill Improv Festival Inaugural Ball will take place at the Fox's Den in City Block. Doors open at 10 pm on Friday, September 5. Tickets are $10.

My main computer that I use doesn't let me open up the catagory list.  So I'm on another computer that does let me do so.  So I'm going to try and use all the catagories in one list here to get them to be able to appear.

I got 2 albums a couple of weeks ago.  They were Warren Zevon albums: Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School, and Sentimental Hygiene.  By the way, if you haven't been able to tell yet, I'm a huge Warren Zevon fan.

Speaking of Warren Zevon, I've been reading his biography, the one by his ex-wife.  I'm a slow reader...but I enjoy it.

Between late December of last year and early June of this year, I was writing a story called Matthew of the IHOP Restroom.  This guy goes to IHOP at 3:30am and goes to the restroom but in stead of going into the restroom, he enters a poratl to the 18th Demension.  The general idea was in response to having read the book STARDUST after having seen the movie about 3 or 4 times.  Anyway, I've started writing a spin-off called Dan of a Bank on Metcalf.  Dan was a friend of Matthew who happens to be a loveable idiot...but he's kind of a pervert when he's drunk.  If you are interested in reading any of these stories, you can visit my myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/classic_rockaholic

Bruce Springsteen is still coming to town and I still don't have tickets.  But whatever.  The day before, which is this coming Saturday, I will be performing in my first live improv show.  The place is called The Roving Imp.  It's in Bonner Springs.  I will be performing a Chicago style Harold with a group of fellow improvers.  I've been taking the workshops there at the Roving Imp for about a month now and having the time of my life!

I finally got the licence plate for my Chevy Aveo this last Tuesday.  Good thing to.  The 30-day experation tag was up on Wednesday.  But I got the letter in the mail this week that I have to pay car tax...on my old car that I had to get rid of because of the hail storm.  Now I have to let the state know that I now own the Chevy Aveo.  But also this week, I'll be going back up to KU for my last full year of classes.  I will be a graduate of the Unversity of Kansas (hopefully) by May '09...To give you some idea, I've been going to college since Aug. '02.  I'm ready to be out.

I found out a week ago that I have an older 1/2 sister.  I mean, I knew that I had 2 older half sisters but it was one of those things that I stuck in the back of my mind.  I'm an only child and I've been an only child for 25 years and almost 2 months.  Now, not just do I have sisters, but I've also been an uncle for the past 17 years.

I saw Mummy 3 this last Monday and really enjoied it.  I want to go see Tropic Thunder.  I made a comment in my workshop that I already know that Jack Black's charicter would be the most like me.  They suggested I should see the movie first to make sure the charicter who is most like me ISN'T a rapist.  So, hopefully, he's not.  I just assumed because I see a lot of myself in a lot of other Jack Black charicters.  But anyway...

Yeah, so this is an update.  I'm sorry if anyone comes along and reads this and thinks I tried to type the most I've ever typed for the sole purpose of having more people come to my site.  That is not my intention at all.  I just wanted to make sure I could use all my catagories in one post.

it was a very strange day

like nothing before of its kind

i woke up at 9ish so that was good

the groceries took forever to come though so i didn't eat all that much

i read my total truth for a while and am on chapter 5 now

i figure if i finish by friday i should be fine

i left for laconnection and got there within 30 minutes

basically not using the gps at all

i think i'll be weened by next weekend

when i got there i parked and all and while i was walking there was this mexican gangsta chollo dude who randomly took his shoes off and chucked them in the street

so i was glancing at him a bit confused then he started cussing me out and all and was asking if i wanted to get fucked up or what i was looking at

i said what and stuff and then hes all keep walking foo and im all sounds good!

and kept walkin

so then rehearsal was kinda fun cause it was only like 12 people

and it was a pretty good time

then the show comes (ps passion fruit tea is good)

and there is this one guy in his 40's and yellow shirt totally drunk out of his mind

and he stole the show.

for instance in the middle of me doing my international scene. and he just stands up and is gesturing to shake my hand

so i pause the scene and shake his hand

then continue on

or later they were doing acro and they are choosing professions and he was all like

what was the brown ones?! i didnt hear!

the chick was mexican and got the role of a samurai

he asked that like 4 times though

and wouldn't shut up the entire time

it was funny

finally towards the end he realized this was the teen group and not the adult group

i felt kinda bad for him

and saw the whole thing for what it was

its not as sick as i make it out to be

but this whole entertainment thing is just a distraction from what really goes on

like sports and all that stuff

it is something that one can place above all else

"the show must go on"

its an escape

it requires full attention and distracts us from what we truly feel

its the same with all of that stuff

he sorta brought reality into it

which isn't exactly true

but i dunno

this is mixed with the blasphemy that a fetus is a human but not a person therefore disposable

i came home and read and did some more stuff

talked to aly about brittany

and i am sure that she likes me now

i will have confirmation tomorrow

oh and also i went to the rancho simi park and saw people dancing then "cleaned up trash"

that was boring

but mildly entertaining

the reason i call today liddle nibbles

is because it wasnt the bite of reality

but reminders of what life really is

and how all this that we do is totally real but merely a put on thing

not in the dichotomy where its like all an illusion

its just that there is so much more than my little bubble

and i dont think i want to do journalism too much

and i miss my retainer :(
