Hello lovely reader(s).

I. Am. SO. ANGRYY. At IE. Mostly because it rejects my lovingly craft CSS (which you may not yet see, due to this very dilemma), understandably made for Firefox since that's what I use, but it also happens to reject my attempts to compromise for IE...! How unreasonable. I believe IE should die while eating ice cream, the ultimate disgrace.

After wasting so much time, trial and error, I eventualy managed to finish the final theme. The earlier 2 themes were just not looking good. It was a mistake to use bad themes for so long and than trying to make them look good. I spent way too much time in making them look good instead of just dropping them.

Now the site look way better, though I need to fix the logo thing. Geez, Opera is making it look pretty bad (though FF and IE are fine).

I’m betting that 98% of you are viewing this blog using the old reliable Microsoft creation In

I'm betting that 98% of you are viewing this blog using the old reliable Microsoft creation Internet Explorer, right? I mean, it came pre-loaded on your computer and that is what you are supposed to use. What if I told you there was something better, faster and customizable?

What if I told you it was free?

What if I told you that 99.9% of websites will work in exactly like they work in IE? Too good to be true? It's not!

I remember hearing about Mozilla when it was still in Beta, before it became the Netscape Navigator and finally Firefox. I tried it, but due to the newness of the browser, and the whole world wide web for that matter, it didn't work very well. Most websites at the time just weren't designed to be compatible with anything other than IE. But that has changed!

If you are using IE 7 (and if you are using IE, you should be!) than you have been introduced to the wonderful world of "tabbed browsing." Did you think Microsoft came up with that? Nope!

So, you can download (for free) the Mozilla Firefox web browser here, but that is just the beginning. After you download it you can download numerous "add-ons." Since Firefox is an "open source" browser, anyone can make add-ons for it! This means there is a wide variety of add-ons for every thinkable (and some you won't think of) use.

There are also "themes" you can download. These themes are skins for your browser so you can change the colors/shapes/sizes of your buttons and task bars. There is everything from sports team themes to holiday themes. Ones that just change the colors to some that change the look entirely. There is even one that makes Firefox look like IE!!! Theme I'm using currently is Aquatint Black Gloss.

In addition to the add-ons and themes another feature that I like is that you can place your favorite bookmarks (IE calls bookmarks favorites) right on the toolbar for easy one-click access!

I personally have added the following add-ons:

1.) Adblock Plus - Helps block pop-ups and many ads on website pages.

2.) Feed Sidebar - This add-on sold me on Firefox. It gives me a very nice sidebar that I can open and close with all of my RSS feeds in it. It also adds a nice icon and small notices whenever I get a new RSS item. Since I read 12-15 blogs everyday, this makes it VERY easy to keep up to date with them. You should subscribe to my RSS feed.

2.) Google Preview - Gives you a small thumbnail preview of EACH page in the results of your google search!

3.) Surf Canyon - Gives you preview pics on Craigslist and gives you suggested similar links to your search results on Craigslist, google, and Yahoo!.

4.) PMOG - A passive game. It puts a toolbar at the bottom of your browser, and as you surf the web you are playing a game with thousands of other people. Just by doing your everyday surfing you are playing the game and will find missions and other surprises left by other players. These missions will take you to other pages (on a theme) and are very helpful to find new and interesting websites.

5.) Woot! Watcher - On the bottom corner of my screen it tells me what Woot! is selling at what price for the day. Only works with original woot! currently.

Overall there are hundreds of different reasons to love Firefox. Everyone can make it exactly what they need their browser to be! Go check it out!

This download has been blocked by your Security Zone Policy (Esta

aplicaciones y archivos no seguros".

I came across this difficulty when I was trying to automate a webpage that was primarily built in Ja

I came across this difficulty when I was trying to automate a webpage that was primarily built in Javascript; this webpage also always had the same href (or web address) and also was built with many frames. The problem that I ran into was that I could find the links with the IE developer toolbar to get their ids, but whenever I tried to access them, I could not, I was given an error message saying that they did not exist. At this point in time I thought the issue I had was with javascript, but I was incorrect!

A lot of hunting on the interwebs led me, ironically, back to the watir main documentation, where I discovered that my issue was really with frames! When a website has frames, you need to specify what frame the link is in to actually access it, for example:
ie.frame("main").link(:id,"UW_CO_JOBTITLE_HL$").click

Or in general terms:
ie.frame("FRAMENAME").link(:id, "LINKID").click

And there we have, you can now access links that are in frames, hopefully this saves someone all of the hunting that I had to do! This is also a really good example of how difficult it is to find a solution to something when you are not sure what the problem was; I thought the problem was with JavaScript, so I was searching for that, but it was in fact as stated above with the frames!

There is several ways in how to bind an event in Javascript. As far as I know four ways exist on beh

There is several ways in how to bind an event in Javascript. As far as I know four ways exist on behalf of binding a Javascript event. Here brief description of each way

1. Through inline HTML Code
The Javascript event declared inline in HTML code, for example:

Then showAlert() is a Javascript function that merely show an alert message:

function showAlert()
{
      window.alert("Hello, World!!!");
}

This inline event binding works for all browsers.

2. Traditional Binding
I think this way is more elegance than the first one, but before we can do this we must get the desired element. We can use two useful methods of document object to get the element we want, there is getElementById() and getElementsByTagName(). Both method receive one string parameter which show the ID of an element (for getElementById()) or elements name (for getElementsByTagName()). Please aware that the result of getElementsByTagName() is always array of element.
Suppose that we have the following page:

Events Binding

      Content:
      (Hover the elements below and click one of it)

Martial Arts, Swimming, Football, Basketball, Badminton

Work, Office, Vacation, Holiday

Computer, Internet, Blogging

For simplicity I mix the HTML and Javascript code (although it maybe looks messy). The above code will produce a TextBox element and three
element. Hover the
element and click it will copy paste the nodeValue of
element to TextBox.

[caption id="attachment_221" align="aligncenter" width="564" caption=" "][/caption]

Traditional binding works well for all browser.

3. W3C Binding
W3C binding works on browsers that comply with W3C standard. We need to remember one important method when attach event using W3C binding: addEventListener(). This method receives three parameters, first parameter is event name (such as: click, load, mouseout, etc.), second parameter is function that handle it, and third parameter is boolean values (true for event capturing or false for event bubbling).
Look at the following simple example on how to use addEventListener():

Test W3 Binding

First Element

Second Element

Third Element

Run the code in W3C compliant browsers and hover the mouse cursor above an
element and you will see the background color of
element changed.

4. IE Binding
As usual, Internet Explorer (IE) has its own way on binding an event. Remember this method when binding an event using IE binding: attachEvent(). This methods receives two parameters, first parameter is event precede with 'on' word (such as: onclick, onload, onmouseout), the second parameter is function that handle it.
If we want do the same thing (hover and out mouse effect) in IE way we can do with this code:

Test IE Binding

First Element

Second Element

Third Element

We must notice that this keyword inside a event handler function in IE point to window object not the current element, so we need a little more effort to achieve our goal. It something looks like this:

function liMouseOver()
{
var e = window.event;
var elm = e.srcElement;
elm.style.backgroundColor = "gainsboro";
}

Run the code in the browser and we should get the same result as before.

Oh my GOSH!

Wow, this was annoying. I knew I'd heard it before so it only took a few moments of my time however; it was a couple hours before my guys asked for help and it does show just how ingrained IE is in the Microsoft's OS.

Error: SelectObject to CompatibleDC failed: The operation completed successfully. (0)

So what we were attempting to do was run an application installation from a UNC path. We could browse the path no problem. When we attempted to launch the application's executable we would see the above error.

What was the culprit you ask? It was the "Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration" Windows component of Windows Server 2003 R2®. Once that was removed; Viola! It worked fine.

My guys think I walk on air, I don't tell them I once sat and banged my head on the keyboard too. Then again I'm sure there is scaring there on the forhead. ;)

"Thuraya SMS: We have been having many problems with this. One great suggestion is to use Internet Explorer rather than Firefox, Safari, or another browser. If you send an SMS, please indicate how it was send in the message (IEWin for windows IE, IEMac for mac IE, etc). This will help us figure out what works. Any twelve-year old in a programming class could fix the Thuraya web site (assuming this is the problem), but apparently Thuraya only hires eight-year-olds (and their software shows it)."

Tonight, between 6 pm and 12 am, Riverside LEOs are in full force checking for your sobriety and valid drivers licenses. Being that I had a couple of Long Islands (Applebees on University - $3 between 3 pm and 6 pm, even Fridays), I am home being drunk from the safety of my home. While it hasn't been announced (to me) where the sobriety checkpoint(s) will be, just be careful. Take a cab. It's so cheap from the college area to downtown or the plaza, literally less than $10. Designate a driver. Perhaps an Amish or pregnant friend. Just don't drive drunk or even buzzed. It's good for your health. Andy Dick should have heeded similar information. Andy, if you're reading this, next time you hit the I.E., I'll be your DD and we'll have a swell time. I'll let you do Skank for me and we can color and drink safely.

Complete press release follows...

Riverside Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers with Checkpoint

The Riverside Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, July 18, 2008, from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight, in an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes. DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

This year, the City of Riverside has experienced three fatalities as a result of DUI driving; there were six in 2007. This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license.

A DUI checkpoint is a visible and effective method for raising awareness and reducing the incidence of drinking drivers. By publicizing these enforcement and education efforts, the Riverside Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving and encourage sober designated drivers.

Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles at the chosen location may be checked. Drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs – Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest.

The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
