So Rogers, your main competition have consumer smart phones with unlimited plans that are actually affordable. How much longer do you think you can justify your pricing for the iPhone? Because if you're banking on the fact that people will buy it because it's an iPhone, you're in for a rude awakening.

UPDATE: This link indicates they're getting the Samsung Instinct as well. No word on data plan pricing for it, but I don't expect Rogers like pricing.

The HTC Touch Diamond looks amazingly stunning with its sultry appeal and stylish touch screen. Other desirable features include a cool 3D interface, Windows Mobile 6.1, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 3.2-megapixel camera with Flash.

On the downside, it looks somewhat sluggish. Call quality too is below par. However, I hope HTC resolves some of the performance issues many experienced before the smartphone is released in the USA.

Natürlich hat er auch Macken (bei hoher Speicherauslastung durch viele laufende Programme ist er nicht der Schnellste, manche Tastenbelegungen sind eher gewöhnungsbedürftig), aber das tritt in den Hintergrund, wenn man das Gesamtbild sieht.

I love my iPhone, a lot.  But with everyone trying to get a piece of the touchscreen phone pie, Apple's competition is becoming very fierce – and smart.  HTC has been in the touchscreen phone game a long time, far before anyone murmured the sacred words 'Jesus Phone'.  And the Windows Mobile platform, though traditionally non finger-friendly, has been around the block a few times as well, and is hugely popular in the business world. But none of these reasons, though important, are why HTC's latest offering will do well here in Asia.  So why will the HTC Touch Diamond dominate?!

Because it has a great name -- HTC Touch Diamond.  Diamond!  And also because it is expensive.  Let's face it; we live in a pretty materialistic society, which in Hong Kong is probably multiplied by a factor of 100.  And these past two weeks, promotion for the HTC Touch Diamond is being layered on thick, very thick.  Telstra, which owns the service providers CSL and one2free, currently have exclusivity to sell the Diamond, and they are doing a superb job.  Retailing for $473 with subscription and $730 without (both are unlocked), nearly every major street has vivid advertising and competent sales staff pawning this device off on the masses. Not that much convincing is needed to sell this gem -- it is insanely beautiful, and shockingly light when compared to my current (non 3G) iPhone.  When I played around with one a couple weeks ago, it honest-to-goodness felt twice as small and half as light as my current iPhone.  Seriously Cupertino, get your act together.  I can understand you want to cut costs by keeping the same LCD screens, but making the 'new' 3G iPhone thicker than the 'old' model, with no front facing camera? Please.

Yesterday I overheard a group of women at a local club talking about the Touch Diamond like it is a multiple orgasm inducing super-vibrator; this made my ears tingle with joy.  Maybe it could be a super secret sex toy, seeing as the phone has a 'G-Sensor' that automatically rotates the screen, just like the iPhone, depending on how you fondle it.  If that doesn't make you want to go out and buy one this instant, I don't know what will.  Sure, the interface transitions aren't as fast as on a well groomed iPhone, but it is downright blazing when compared to Symbian based phones like the Nokia N61, and even somewhat speedy when matched up against previous Windows Mobile phones.  The TouchFLO 3D interface displayed on the VGA resolution 2.8" TFT-LCD screen is very pretty, harmonizing perfectly with the black and luxurious style of the phone – a refreshing change from the iPhone.  Oh, and did I mention it is 3G with a front facing camera?  And it can send MMS messages, forward text messages, and copy/paste.  No crippled Bluetooth either.  Yeah.

You know what, I could go on all day about pros and cons for each device, but my theory is that none of the features really matter all that much.  The average consumer isn't going to know all the quirks of each phone, and will buy it solely on how it looks and what people tell them to buy (many people prominently wear/display cell phones around their neck on a lanyard here, can you do this with a heavy iPhone)?  CSL and one2free's huge marketing blitz, coupled with the fact that the HTC Touch Diamond is unequivocally the first decent, fully featured, fantastic looking, finger-friendly Windows Mobile phone (they had the HTC Touch to practice on), makes me think it will do very well in Asia.

Yes, it costs a lot more than the $199 iPhone 8GB, and has half the storage-- but it is incredibly small and light, much more so than pictures portray.  The price will go down very soon as well, within two months, as is customary for big phone launches.  And though I hate to admit it, many people have the mentality "more expensive, more better".  And people are wary of trying a new phone platform they aren't comfortable using.  That being said, I know the iPhone will still sell very well– I just don't think it will be able to dominate the market the way Apple expects.  I'll leave you with this; I clearly remember speaking with someone that bought the iPhone when it first became unlocked and available here (meaning black market), and he told me "I don't really like the iPhone, I only got it because it is the expensive 'cool thing' to buy and I want to be seen with one". I laughed, he didn't.

The solution? Apple should release a "luxury" Asian version of the 3G iPhone that costs twice as much as the white version, with double the memory.  Apple says, "Twice as fast. Half the price."  I say, "More Bling. Twice the price."!

Deze maand komen bij ons ineens alle grote rekeningen bij elkaar: die van mijn American Express (mijn HTC Touch Diamond'je), die van Jo zijn MasterCard (een wasmachien, strijkijzer,...), factuur van Proximus, mijn autoverzekering, de afbetaling van Jo zijn auto, de factuur van de garage (jaja, mijn papa is garagist maar ik betaal braafjes mijn onderhoud -met korting- maar 't was ne vree grote deze keer: 120.000km + distributieriem),...

Zonder in details te treden: als we geen som geld opzij hadden staan, zouden we amper rondkomen deze maand. En dat zonder grote afbetalingen...

Enfin, nu kunnen we nog is zot doen, maar na de verhuis in september is 't afremmen geblazen!

HTC Touch memang laku di Indonesia. Karena itulah HTC berencana mengeluarkan seri Touch lain di Indonesia, yaitu HTC Touch Diamond. Touch Diamond menawarkan teknologi terbaru yang disebut 3D interface, di mana tampilannya berkesan 3 dmensi (lihat gambar). Layarnya berukuran 2,8 inci. Samsung Instinct xuất hiện tại Triển lãm không dây CTIA 2008 diễn ra hồi tháng 4 trước sự ngỡ ngàng của khách tham quan. Người ta ngạc nhiên bởi giao diện của máy giống với điện thoại cảm ứng iPhone đến mức khó tin, nhưng không phải là “bản nhái”. Samsung Instinct sở hữu giao diện màn hình rất bắt mắt và tinh tế, tạo cảm giác mượt mà khi thao tác trên máy.

Hiện tại, Instinct mới chỉ trong trong giai đoạn beta nhưng hứa hẹn sẽ là đối thủ đáng gờm của iPhone, với màn hình cảm ứng rộng rãi, tốc độ truy cập mạng EV-DO nhanh cho phép người dùng dễ dàng kết nối Internet, tải dữ liệu. HTC Touch Diamond

Luôn tỏ ra là hãng đi đầu trên thị trường điện thoại thông minh, HTC đã trình làng mẫu điện thoại Touch Diamond ấn tượng với giao diện TouchFLO 3D - Điện thoại đầu tiên có khả năng hiển thị hình ảnh 3 chiều.

HTC đã “đón đầu” trước khi Apple iPhone 3G được tung ra thị trường. Tại VN, nhà phân phối P&T đã chính thức trình làng điện thoại này hồi cuối tháng 5,với giá bán 15,5 triệu đồng. Việt Nam là một trong những thị trường đầu tiên được đón nhận HTC Touch Diamond.

Sony Ericsson G900

Motorola MOTO Z10

Tân binh” mới trên thị trường điện thoại đa phương tiện của Motorola được gọi là “xưởng phim di động”. Otro punto de especial relevancia sobre el HTC Touch Pro, es el generoso aumento de capacidad de la batería. En el HTC Touch Diamond, los 950 mAh se antojaban muy escasos, pero la batería de 1350 mAh del HTC Touch Pro ya son palabras mayores. Según HTC, el HTC Touch Pro tiene una autonomía de hasta 8 horas de conversación en redes GSM y hasta dos semanas en espera.

Lamentablemente, tenemos que ponerle un gran pero al HTC Touch Pro: Windows Mobile 6.1. No lo soporto. Sin embargo, la interfaz TouchFLO 3D diseñada por HTC consiguió que me olvidará de Windows Mobile cuando probé el HTC Touch Diamond, pero también es cierto que no es tan ágil como el OS X del iPhone.

Esto se nota bastante en la velocidad de respuesta a nuestras acciones. En el iPhone, y sé que las comparaciones son odiosas, cuando hacemos zoom, scroll, pasamos de un menú a otro, etc., la respuesta es casi instantánea porque utilizamos una interfaz nativa. Por el contrario, en el HTC Touch Diamond, y por extensión en el HTC Touch Pro (mismo sistema operativo y hardware), se aprecia un retraso entre nuestras acciones y la respuesta del sistema. No es para tirarse de los pelos, pero con el uso diario no pasará desapercibido.

Por último, mencionar que el HTC Touch Pro cuenta con un acelerómetro para orientar automáticamente la pantalla, así como con las típicas aplicaciones de productividad de Windows Mobile (Microsoft Office, gestor de correo, aplicación de notas), un cliente nativo para ver vídeos de YouTube y el navegador web de Opera, cuyo rendimiento y funcionamiento no tiene nada que envidiar al Safari Mobile de Apple.

El HTC Touch Pro, digno sucesor del HTC TyTN II y con un precio aún por determinar, estará disponible este mismo verano en Europa, Asia y Oriente Medio. Hasta final de año no llegará al continente americano. Por cierto, la única medida que cambia es el grosor. El resto se mantienen intactas: 102 x 51 x 18 milímetros con un peso de 165 gramos.

Ik hou er nu eenmaal van om mij te omringen met 'the latest & greatest'. Nintendo Wii? Check! Sony Vaio laptop? Check! PSP? Check! iPod Video? Check! Nokia GSM? Check!

Nu, ik let er wel op dat ik niet overdrijf. Er bestaat àltijd erger. Zo heb ik 'slechts' 999 euro betaald voor mijn laptop terwijl mijn eigenlijke favoriet er 2000 kostte. Ik ben ook nooit 'de eerste' met iets. Mijn PSP kocht ik als de hype al wat over was. Mijn Nokia is mooi en handig, maar niet hét topmodel. Mijn Nintendo Wii heb ik nog maar enkele weken. En mijn iPod Video heb ik nog steeds niet omgeruild voor een iPhone of iPod Touch. En néén, ik heb (nog) geen Macbook!

Maar sinds Jo en ik shoppen voor onze uitzet, betrap ik mezelf erop dat ik zelfs voor praktisch keukenmateriaal voor 'the latest & greatest' kies. We kijken wel altijd uit naar promoties. De Makro-folder is onze bijbel. Wat dacht je van een potten- en pannenset van Demeyere aan -40%? Een Brabantia TouchBin aan de helft van de prijs. Dyson stofzuigers aan interessante prijsjes. Een designlamp van outlet store Dépôt Design in Brussel (een geweldige winkel trouwens!). Onze Siemens droogkast konden we op de kop tikken in een uitverkoop.

Snobisme? Integendeel! Nu zien onze bankrekeningen even af, maar met onze meubels en materialen kunnen Jo en ik nog jààààren verder. En da's, boven alles, ons doel.

Mijn volgende snufje? Een HTC Touch Diamond. En die ga ik wél als allereerste kopen, als 't effe kan... Handig als zoiets gelanceerd wordt, enkele weken na je verjaardag!

The long and the short of it is that until one of our UK accreditored retailers that we feature on our site actually gets official UK stocks we will not be adding the handset to our comparison site.

There is no point spending out £412.00 on what should be a fantastic handset only to find that there is no manufacturers warranty or that the phone has been imported from the grey market.

Now, a couple of my cousins have the HTC Touch (from Bell), but I think the HTC Touch Diamond just blows it out the water. That is one sexy phone! I just love how it's faceted at the back... and the new TouchFLO 3D interface is quite awesome too. I can't wait until it's officially released so I can see it in person... *drool*

NEW DELHI, INDIA:  Following the agreement to introduce Apple's iPhone in the country later this year, Bharti Airtel will also be pushing iPhone rival, HTC Touch Diamond exclusively on its network.

Speaking on the sidelines of the unveiling of Taiwanese phone manufacture latest product offering, HTC Touch Diamond, Bharti Airtel, Executive Director,  Syed Safawi, said Airtel will be pushing both brands in Indian market as the market size was huge enough to allow both the competing brands to compete and survive.

"They are very different products and will be targeted against a different customer segmentz, so as a company, we don't see any conflict between the two partnerships," said Safawi.

"The market is big enough for both the brands to survive and compete" added Safawi.

Bharti Airtel also has an exclusive tieup with Research In Motion (RIM) for Blackberry in India.

HTC's Touch Diamond is high end phone positioned by the company for both the business and consumer market. Diamond has a 2.8-inch touch screen, offers high-speed connectivity and 4GB storage. The phone is priced at Rs 27,500 and will be available in 17 cities in the country from second week of June.
