Nothing is better than reviewing an album by a New England area Metal band! By Blood Alone comes from Portland, Maine and SEAS OF BLOOD is the band's first full-length album that follows up their recording debut, the four song E.P., ETERNALLY (2005). With a name like By Blood Alone, you would expect the band to be a brutal and vicious Heavy Metal band but that is not the case. By Blood Alone is a female-fronted Gothic/Progressive Metal band, in the same style as After Forever, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Temujin, with an emphasis on atmospheric keyboards, a driving guitar and haunting vocals.

The Progressive side of the band is their lengthy "jamming" sound that takes most of the songs past the 7 minute mark and provides each member a way to stretch out on their given instrument. There are lengthy solos and instrumental section in the longer songs that help provide a wider soundscape for the band to explore. There are plenty of time and tempo changes to keep the songs sounding fresh and interesting. The Gothic side of the band is clear with the excellent keystrokes of Jenny Williamson and the vocals of lead singer Cruella. I would say that there is a fair bit of Celtic/Renaissance influence to the music also, I can hear a touch of Blackmore's Night on some of the songs. The sound isn't really heavy and I think that is due to John Graveside's guitar being too low in the mix while the keys and vocals are way out front. That's a production issue that could easily be fixed. Vocally, Cruella is very good, she has a very beautiful voice. The problem I had is that I was waiting for her to go for it! To let go, hit some serious highs and belt these songs out with some power.....but she doesn't, Cruella stays on an even keel and I guess it fits haunting style the band captures. That is the difference between By Blood Alone and the other female-fronted bands out there.....power. If there was more power in the vocals, more aggression, then I think the songs would stand out more.

'Serpentarius' clocks in at 7:30 and starts out sounding like a true Metal song with an opening guitar intro followed by galloping drums & bass and layered keyboards. Very uptempo at first but the middle section slows down into an extended instrumental break. Cruella shows off some power here but is stuck too low in the mix. Same thing with 'Wants Me Dead', it starts off with a galloping rhythm and guitar but slows down a little once the vocals and keys kick in. There's a solo break after the first chorus that gives off a Blackmore's Night feel to the song but I don't hear woodwinds or a mandolin so I think I like this a little better! I like this song, it has me wanting a more uptempo pace because the band does it well. 'Undead Friend' is haunting track that starts out with this basic piano melody and Cruella's singing. As the song progresses, the rest of the instruments join in, along with some extra keyboards. Very atmospheric, you get a chilling sense of beauty.

Another 7+ minute song arrives in the form of 'Nidhogg' that is right out of the Blackmore's Night playbook. Again, no hurdy gurdies or flutes, the keyboards set the sounds and there is another lengthy instrumental section in the middle that lets each member stretch out a bit. It's at this time, halfway through the album, that I realize that Cruella's vocal performance is kind of the same as Anneke Van Giersbergen's on The Gathering's 1999 album HOW TO MEASURE A PLANET: a very even delivery within a very defined sound. Almost too even actually. The trend continues on 'Lovely Lies' although the music is a little more aggressive and the guitars weave in and out with the keyboards. The drums are mixed a little high but that's OK because they give the song a little kick. 'Lovely Lies' is the band longest song on the album at just over 8 minutes but it is also the best in providing an overall picture of the band and the album. The title track is another long song and follows the same formula as 'Serpentarius' and 'Nidhogg' but there seems to be some life in the production here! The mix sounds a little better with everything sounding equal, one insturment not being drowned out from another. Best vocal performance of the album by Cruella and she is not mixed too low either!

A half minute instrumental opens 'Deny Yourself' and gives the sense that By Blood Alone is going to gallop along again like on 'Wants Me Dead'. There are some quick breaks where one gets the sense that the music slows a little but, for the most part, 'Deny Yourself' is uptempo with some interesting drum fills. Of course, halfway though the song, the band slows the pace down to a crawl and provide another haunting mood. Things pick up again with the instrumental solo section but, by this point, I've heard them do this on almost every song! 'Little Lady Lillit' is all vocals and piano and it almost sounds like a child's nursery rhyme! It's interesting, especially when you hear the lyrics.

Bottom Line:
Overall, I liked the album. I'm a big fan of female-fronted Gothic styled bands and By Blood Alone fits that category. The band has songs and they are talented musicians but what they desperately need is a new producer. I haven't heard any other albums produced by Steve La Cerra but I have enough albums of this genre in my collection to know what works and what doesn't. SEAS OF BLOOD is begging for a remix! The keyboards are way up front in the mix most of the time and the vocals are either too high or too low. There are guitars here but Graveside is usually too low and under the keyboards. Same goes with the bass, mixed way too low. I adjusted my equalizer to bring in more bass and you can definitely hear Jack Doran. Now just because the mix is a mess doesn't mean that the musicians are bad, they are all actually very good, especially keyboardist Jenny Williamson. If ambient/Gothic music is what you are going to do, then you need a great keyboardist.....Williamson is the real deal! If Cruella put a little more thunder in her vocals and John Graveside got his guitar equal time with the keys, By Blood Alone would be a heavier band. I like what I hear and I want to hear more.....I bet the band goes over really well live. Definitely a band I will be watching closely in the future.

Favorite Songs: 'Serpentarius', 'Wants Me Dead', 'Lovely Lies', 'Seas of Blood'

Did you know...

There are many myths about what causes pimples.

Stress does not cause acne

Eating greasy foods does not cause pimples

Nor does dirty skin causes pimples

But studies have shown that blackheads and other acne lesions are not caused by dirt.

Use something that's good for our skin...something that is...

- clean the skin thoroughly before applying
- cover the entire affected area with a thin layer 1 to 3 times daily

From Capitol/EMI Records:

Following the successful 2007 release of the coveted 4-CD+DVD Warchest box set, MEGADETH is back with a vengeance with Anthology: Set The World Afire. The career-spanning 2-CD and digital collection, to be released September 30th by Capitol/EMI, features Megadeth's top hits and fan favorites, a previously unreleased demo and two rare concert recordings.

Anthology: Set The World Afire is loaded with 35 electrifying tracks, among them Megadeth's top hits, including 'Trust', 'A Tout Le Monde', 'Insomnia' and 'Train Of Consequences'. Also included are rare 1992 concert recordings of 'Peace Sells' and 'Symphony of Destruction', previously available only in limited release, the latter having never been released in the U.S.

'High Speed Dirt' is a demo version, previously unreleased.

Iconic frontman Dave Mustaine pioneered the hugely successful metal band, Megadeth after his departure from METALLICA. Beginning with the band's 1985 debut album, Killing Is My Business ... And Business Is Good!, and evolving through a shifting series of lineups, Megadeth crafted a dynamic, intelligent style that combined the aggressiveness of thrash metal, the improvisational nature of jazz, and cynical, articulate, politically-charged lyrics into an innovative mix that built a rabid worldwide following.

In 1992, Megadeth burst into the mainstream with their fifth album, Countdown To Extinction, which debuted at #2 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart and went on to sell more than two million copies in the U.S. alone. 1994's Youthanasia followed with a #4 debut, while 1997's Cryptic Writings yielded four Top 20 hits at rock radio, including 'Trust' and 'Almost Honest'.

After a brief hiatus in 2002, Megadeth made a bold return when their tenth studio album, The System Has Failed, debuted at #18 on Billboard's Top 200.

In recent years, Mustaine has also overseen the broad remastering campaign for Megadeth's Capitol Records catalog, which began with the band's second album, Peace Sells ... But Who's Buying? Mustaine spent months remixing, remastering, restoring - and in some cases, reconstructing - the band's Capitol catalog to bring it as close to his original vision as possible. Each reissue and last year's career-spanning Warchest box set is packed with unreleased tracks, demos and alternate mixes, as well as new liner notes by the iconoclastic Mustaine.
For the majority of three decades, Megadeth has yanked heavy metal into the future - musically, lyrically, and culturally - and worked the raw soil into something desirable and dangerous. With defiance and grace, through unusual quality and intelligence, Megadeth has raised a generation on a diet of truth serum and bitter pills. Instead of being kicked to the curb for their insolence, they've been rewarded with seven Grammy nominations and five platinum and multi-platinum albums.

On September 30, Megadeth will continue to build on this powerful legacy with Anthology: Set The World Afire and will prove once again that they are an indispensable part of heavy metal history.

Megadeth - Anthology: Set The World Afire (2-CD, Digital Album) tracklisting:

Krackerjack is a Rock band from Denmark and have a '70s Classic Rock sound that is very melodic and full of chunky guitar riffs, solid drumming, and a Deep Purple styled organ play. On first listen to ROCK ON!, Krackerjack's third record, I couldn't help but double check the date on the back of the tray card. Was this really released in 2007 or more like 1977? The sound is a blend of '70s legends (Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and UFO) and some of the early '80s AOR/Rock greats (Great White, Survivor and Night Ranger), dominated by the guitar and organ. The overall music sound is bluesy Hard Rock (like UFO) with the thick David Coverdale style pipes of Allan G. Pedersen, the Jon Lord influenced keyboards of Claus Greve, and the blues-based guitarwork of René Mikkelsen. Right away the songs sound dated but there is an air of freshness to them because they are so straight forward Rock. The comparisons to UFO, Purple, & 'Snake are easy to make but I also mentioned Great White, Survivor and Night Ranger. If you stripped away the prominence of the organ, and if Pedersen had a higher voice, this album could easily fall into the '80s AOR category. There is plenty of melodies and harmonies in every song along with really catchy lyrics.....it's fun music. That's what good AOR is.....fun. With a little production tweak or tonal change in the sound, these songs could be easily msitaken for either band. Krackerjack also has that Hard Rock sound that Great White used for MTV stardom. All in all, it's a really good blend of sound that bridges one decade to the next.

'Love'em To Death' has an AC/DC quality to it with it's basic riff rock/boogie woogie guitar sound but it sounds like early Whitesnake as soon as Pedersen starts singing. It's remarkable how much he sounds like Coverdale at his bluesy best. The chorus is catchy as hell and the exchanges between the organ and guitar really give the song a fantastic energy. 'This Heart' is a big time radio style ballad that is extremely melodic and takes me back a couple decades when music like this ruled the roost. Same with the title track, it just has that upbeat, melodic, Hard Rock sound that could easily be heard on Rock radio today. I would put this up against the Stainds, Nickelbacks, and Puddles of Mudds of the world any day of the week! I really like the way the guitar and organ play off each other and give the song some depth. One of the longest songs on the album is 'Blame It On The Little Big Man' and it's probably my least favorite. It's not necessarily a bad song but it just sounds like something all those Nickelbacks and Stainds would put out. You can call it a ballad, even mid-paced if you want, but it's long and it sounds like too much of the same.....the only thing separating the song from today's whiney Hard Rock is the key strokes of Claus Greve and a somking guitar solo courtesy of René Mikkelsen.

Krackerjack gets right back on track with the uptempo 'Lonely' that features the guitar & organ mirroring each other on the main riff. Good harmonies on the chorus, the organ solo is influenced by the great Jon Lord and maybe even Don Airey, it definitely sounds like a UFO or Deep Purple track. I like the guitar based 'Back Together' with it's cool bass line, solid drumming, and harmonies and the '70s styled 'Waiting For Tomorrow', a ballad rich in the Blues and dripping with emotion. 'Hungry Boy' picks things up again but is more of the same as the other rockers on the album, at this point the band is following a formula that works but is getting too familiar. 'Lullaby' is another hard rocker but it sounds a little more like '80s Hard Rock than bluesy '70s Rock. It's more melodic, has more harmonies and good spacing between the guitar and keys. I like the '70s feel to the record but the melodic sense Krackerjack has is a huge plus, it's what separates them from being too retro. The closer on ROCK ON! is 'Too Late' and it's another one of those long mid-paced/ballad type songs drenched in guitar and organ. It's a good song, I like it best of all the slow songs, but I expected Krackerjack to end the album on a hot rockin' note.

Bottom Line:
A really good record and a nice surprise. I admit that I didn't expect much from one look at the album cover but that old saying of "don't judge a book by it's cover" is so true. This is a true Rock record that has enough melody, harmony, good songwriting, and musical performances to compete with the more popular Rock bands on the charts. I'm very impressed with Allen Pedersen's deep melodic vocals and the interplay between the guitar and keyboards. I have always been a big fan of bands that use a Hammond Organ so it's safe to say that I am jumping on the Krackerjack bandwagon. This is a band to watch! Fans of Deep Purple, early Whitesnake, UFO, and Great White should take notice!

Favorite Songs: 'Love'em To Death', 'Rock On!', 'Lonely', 'Back Together'

Beautiful Eyes

Getting a beautiful eye look is simple when you know a few secrets that makeup artists use to create a gorgeous look. To get started, consider choosing eye shadows that work with your skin tone and eye color. Have fun playing with different colors to find your favorites. And then learn the application tips that best enhance your eye shape. Now, get ready to start mastering the art of makeup!

The Keys to Color
Because the tone of your skin impacts a color after application, it is important to consider skin tone as much as eye color when choosing an eye shadow.

Ivory complexions work well with a range of neutrals, cool purples, reddish browns and blue-greens. For a more dramatic look, deep greens and
taupes or warm purples can also be used.

Beige skin tones can be complemented with taupes, tawnies, greens, warm browns and deep plums. Charcoal gray, navy or deep purple are perfect for a
striking evening look.

Bronze skin tones use deep or dark browns, deep greens such as forest green or charcoal grays. Dramatic looks are best created with dark purple,
dark brown or charcoal.

When choosing eye shadows that bring out the color of your eyes, pick shades that either complement or contrast your irises.

Blue eyes radiate with warm browns, bronze, copper and other shades with similar orange undertones.

Green eyes look great in purples, plums and taupes.

Hazel eyes stand out in shades of deep greens and lavenders and shades with soft yellow undertones.

Brown eyes look gorgeous in any color, especially purples, pinks, grays or blues.

Apply Here
Once you have chosen the colors that complement your eyes, the next step to stunning eyes is proper application. Different eye shapes require different methods of application. The following step-by-step guides provide easy application instructions for six common eye shapes.

Standard
Eyes that are set about one eye width apart might be classified as “standard,” but we think they are still fabulous. Use these interactive
application tips and go from standard to stunning in the blink of an eye.

Deep-Set
A more noticeable brow bone typically indicates deep-set eyes. Highlight their magnetic quality with these interactive application tips.

Wide-Set
Open and inviting, wide-set eyes are spaced more than one eye width apart. These interactive application tips will help bring together their beauty and
radiance.

Close-Set
Close-set eyes are spaced less than one eye width apart. Their alluring quality can be best illuminated with these interactive application tips.

Hooded
The natural crease in the eyelid is not readily seen with hooded eyes. Draw out their beauty by creating a well-defined lashline. To further enhance
their sparkle, try these additional interactive application tips.

The day after Halloween we will be releasing the first-ever Helix Christmas CD entitled HELIX-HEAVY MENTAL CHRISTMAS. The CD will be available in Walmart stores across Canada, and we have been told it will be front racked, along with the soon-to-be-released AC/DC & Metallica CDs. The CD will be distributed by Fontana/Universal.

We are very excited about this project, and with good reason. We’ve done some different versions of traditional Christmas songs, as well as taking a few contemporary numbers and jazzing them up, ie. “Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time” by Paul McCartney. We also found a gem in Bob Segar’s “Sock It To Me Santa” and even penned one of our own, a Motorhead-sounding ditty entitled, “It’s Christmastime Again”. The CD is being recorded at “A” Studios in London, Ontario. Gord Prior is producing with Aaron Murray engineering.

The release of Heavy Mental Christmas will coincide with a western Canadian tour in November. We also hope to play our hometown of London around the same time period. We will announce our tour dates as we get them.

Você aparecerá asfixiado no próprio vômito. Alguma coisa nesse mundo vende mais que isso?!

So I made it to the show Friday night, here's how the night went.....

The Plan:
A few months ago, I received a copy of Testament's new record, THE FORMATION OF DAMNATION, for review. I listened to the album, wrote the review, and passed the link along to my contact in the band's promotional camp. I also happened to mention that I was planning on catching the show and that I would send a concert review as well. I received an email back from the promo people that I was invited to see the show as Testament's guests. Very cool! Now this is back in May so fast forward to the beginning of last week and I email my contact in the Testament organization to confirm that I am all set: two tickets, Testament's guest list, show my ID, enjoy the show!

The Journey:
I was flying solo to the show but I decided to invite my brother to come along. My brother is five years younger than I am, and he is not a Metalhead, but he knows all the stuff from my brainwashing him as a young child. The plan is for him to take the bus from Port Authority in New York City to the casino and we'll hook up. Plans changed mid-week and he decided to take the bus all the way to Providence so we could hang a little more on the hour drive to the casino. No problem.....

My brother's bus was to arrive at 5:15 giving us almost two hours to drive, get the tix, sit in our seats and relax. I get a call from him around 5, the bus is stuck in traffic and it will be a 30 minute delay. No problem. I get another call at 5:30, the bus hasn't moved, it's going to be 6. No problem. The third call comes 15 minutes later.....go without me. Now I can't do that to my own brother (although I did consider it!) so I waited. Around 7pm, my brother's bus arrives. In the meantime, Testament has just taken the stage! We are an hour away so now I'm just trying to make it in time for Heaven & Hell.

The Tickets:
I made the drive in an hour easily, cars do great things when you put the pedal to the metal! So we park in the garage behind the arena and I can hear Heaven & Hell on stage! So we run through the casino to the call window. I give my name and ID to the girl at the window and she tells me that I AM NOT ON THE TESTAMENT LIST! I give her the name of my contact and she was nice enough to check all of the guest lists, the tickets that hadn't been picked up, and she even tried to get me a pair of tickets anyway because the show was half over. Unfortunately her boss said no. So we are screwed and Plan B is to pull out the VISA card and drop close to $200 for a pair (tix were $85 & $65). As we were debating the next move to Dio belting out 'Die Young', an intoxicated gambler comes over with a pair of tickets to sell. He had gotten comps for gambling so much but his wife didn't want to go, the offer was $50 for the pair. SOLD!

Heaven & Hell:
We got into the arena just as Ronnie was introducing 'Heaven & Hell'. We had great seats on the Iommi/Tipton side (stage left for the band, right if you're facing it) and we were halfway down in the "high-rollers" section. We caught the last two songs of the Heaven & Hell set and they were really good: 'Heaven & Hell' & 'Neon Knights'. Lucky for me I had seen the tour twice last year so I knew what to expect. I'll say this though, from the two songs I heard, it sounds like Ronnie James Dio has strengthened his voice. The last few years he has sounded like he was straining, especially on the highs. When the band left the stage it was off to the t-shirt stand for a tour shirt. $40 got me my Heaven & Hell shirt with the U.S. dates on the back and the album cover on the front. I flirted with the idea of double dipping and also getting a NOSTRADAMUS tour shirt but another $40 was too much.

Judas Priest:
"Friday night and the Priest is back!" I saw Judas Priest twice on the ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION tour, once here at the Mohegan Sun Arena, so I expected a great show. I had seen the setlist online from the previous tour stops so I knew what was coming:

Dawn Of Creation (intro)
Prophecy
Metal Gods
Eat Me Alive
Between The Hammer And The Anvil
Devil's Child
Breaking The Law
Hell Patrol
Dissident Aggressor
Angel
The Hellion / Electric Eye
Rock Hard, Ride Free
Painkiller

ENCORE:
Hell Bent For Leather (w/motorcycle)
The Green Manalishi
You've Got Another Thing Coming

This was a solid setlist geared towards dieheards like myself. I have to give Priest credit, they could have easily come out and played their most popular songs but they kept it fresh for themselves and threw in some album tracks. 'Dawn Of Creation' was a tape straight off the NOSTRADAMUS album but 'Prophecy' came off really well live. I was honestly expecting a couple more tunes from the new record but a shorter time slot stopped that even though they were the headliner. What I don't like is Rob Halford's staring at the ground during new songs and songs he hasn't done for a while. My guess is he's using notes or a teleprompter (like Ozzy!) but it was extremely annoying to have him looking at his boots and clutching the mic with both hands for half the set! He did the same thing on the last tour, especially during the songs from ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION.

'Metal Gods' is a classic I never get sick of hearing but getting 'Eat Me Alive' off DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH was a treat, DEFENDERS is my favorite Priest record. My brother had forgotten that song and was in hysterics watching me scream the words while all the high rolling gamblers stood motionless and emotional-less. 'Between The Hammer And The Anvil' was another welcome addition to the set from the PAINKILLER album and the band was in fine form. 'Devil's Child' was up next and that's another favorite for me (off SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE). I tried to match wits with Halford on the high notes but he won easily as my voice cracked and I barely sputtered out the last few lines. I could do without 'Breaking The Law' but I understand the band has to play some of their big songs to keep the casual fans happy. Halford needs a new intro for that song because the one he has is easily 25 years old! It was good though, very well done.

By this time I've already forgotten the setlists I saw online so when another deep track from PAINKILLER, 'Hell Patrol', was announced by Halford, I went ballistic! Most shows I see have the bands play 2 to 4 new songs and a classic set but here we are mid-set of Judas Priest and they are laying waste with songs that haven't played live in many a year! 'Hell Patrol' was blistering even if Rob was looking at his boots/notes/teleprompter the whole time. He came alive again for the ultra-heavy '70s classic 'Dissident Aggressor' (from SIN AFTER SIN) but went back to his position in the middle of Glenn & KK for 'Angel'. Not sure why 'Angel' made the set, especially with a new record out, but I guess they still enjoy playing songs from ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION. It was good. I liked that album a lot so I didn't mind at all but the crowd overall hit a quiet spot. Up to that point the crowd was rabid, especially the many diehards, so I guess they needed a little break.

The crowd rose again when 'The Hellion' came from the P.A. and Priest tore into 'Electric Eye'. The band opened with this duo on the last tour so it's always a highlight of the show and one of their more popular songs. DEFENDERS track #2 came with 'Rock Hard, Ride Free' and I completely lost my voice! That's an album track, I'd expect to hear 'Freewheel Burning' when they do a DEFENDERS song but I was psyched for 'Rock Hard'. There was some audience participation initiated from Rob so that took away from the overall performance but that is how 99% of the bands keep the crowds into the show: "Let's get the crowd singing along." It's good that they kept the fans involved because Priest then hit everyone over the head with a killer version of 'Painkiller' which destroyed what little voice I had left.

The encore started with Halford riding his Harley on stage in full regalia for 'Hell Bent For Leather' and the surprise of 'The Green Manalishi'. Normally, the second song of the encore is reserved for the hit 'Living After Midnight' but they thankfully cut it from the set for the Fleetwood Mac cover from 1978's HELL BENT FOR LEATHER. The band could have easily just stopped right there because they had put in a masterful performance but they had to play their anthem from SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE: 'You've Got Another Thing Comin'. There's nothing I can say bad about this song, it's like KISS playing 'Rock And Roll All Nite' or Iron Maiden playing 'Run To The Hills', people expect it and want it. The band didn't disappoint and there was some audience participation sing-a-long again.

Bottom Line:
With all the bad luck that started at 5pm, everything turned out for the better. We got in and saw Judas Priest play a superb concert geared for diehards. I don't think you could ask for more variety wise although if they had played 'Grinder', 'Riding On The Wind', or 'Sinner' in place of 'Breaking The Law' I would have been much happier. No complaints though. The band was tight: Ian Hill & Scott Travis are a killer rhythm section, Glenn & KK are one of the best guitar tandems in Metal history, and Rob Halford took a page from the Dio playbook and sounded stronger than he did the last tour. Now if he could just look into the crowd instead of at the floor on the less popular songs! All in all, a good show.....too bad we missed Testament and most of Sabbath.

(And just to keep things clear, I don't like the name Heaven & Hell. It will always be Black Sabbath to me! I don't know what spell Ozzy has over Tony Iommi (who owns the name Black Sabbath) but I don't think it's fair to the music to call it something different than what it is.)

Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry (1984, Atlantic Records)

    B) Street Justice" ... 7:45
5. "I Wanna Rock" ... 3:06
6. "The Price" ... 3:48
7. "Don't Let Me Down" ... 4:26
8. "The Beast" ... 3:30
9. "S.M.F." ... 3:00

Band:
Dee Snider - Vocals
Eddie "Fingers" Ojeda - Guitar
Jay Jay French - Guitar
Mark "The Animal" Mendoza - Bass
A.J. Pero - Drums

Produced by: Tom Werman

Pretty famous album thanks to killer songs & massive hits and the PMRC hearings back in the 80s. "We're Not Gonna Take It" and the band were placed under scrutiny by Tipper Gore and Dee Snider himself stood tall at the senate hearings and defended rock 'n' roll!

The album features two of 80s metal's biggest hits, "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock". Personally, I'm burned out on "We're Not Gonna Take It", it still gets tons of airplay on the radio, on VH1 Classic for the music video and appears in many movies, TV shows and commercials to this day. "I Wanna Rock", though, is a song I never tired of. "The Price

"Burn in Hell" is another strongpoint for the album and who can forget Twisted Sister's cameo in Pee Wee's Big Adventure where Pee Wee interrupts them filming a music video for the song? Hilarious. "Horror-Teria" set the stage and was the inspiration for Dee's 1998 horror film Strangeland.

Definitely an essential 80s metal album and Dee Snider has one of the greatest voices of all time in rock.

Highlights: "We're Not Gonna Take It", "Burn In Hell", "Horror-Teria (The Beginning)...", "I Wanna Rock", "The Price", "Don't Let Me Down"

At first thought, this is puzzling. Bret Michaels tells people.com that he is still in love with Rock of Love 2 winner, Ambre Lake.

“I still love her. I’m not really over her yet. We still hang. She was just out with me a couple days ago and we were having a great time. She’s really got it. I think she’s great.”

They split up a few months ago because of conflicting schedules.

“The reason for destruction of all my relationships is that I’m passionate about being on the road and making music,” he says. “I have great relationships. But the women I date don’t realize that I spend between 6 and 8 months of my life on the road.”

This is one of the reasons behind having Rock of Love 3 as a road reality show. The newest girl has to feel comfortable living on the road.

“Wait till they travel on a bus and are living in and out of a suitcase under the bay of the hotel. You know they’re going to show up here with 14 suitcases when you can fit about one. I have two pairs of jeans … You learn to live like that. It’s a whole different life.”

MCrue's last album, Generation Swine, sucked, according to the Motley Crue vocalist:

"The last record, "Generation Swine," ... was a terrible record, 'cause there was too much experimenting. With this record (Saints of Los Angeles), it's just straight-ahead rock 'n' roll. That's what we do best."

I don't know. I kinda dig the experimentation and topical relevance of Generation Swine. Do we really need another Dr. Feelgood? One was enough.

Tonight is the Metal Masters concert at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut and I'm going! I get to see Judas Priest, Heaven & Hell, and Testament play a full-on Heavy Metal show the day before my 36th birthday.....that's one hell of a present! The really cool thing about it is that I am on the Testament guest list so there are 2 tickets waiting for me at the call window! I've never been on anyone's guest list before so I'm hoping that there are no problems, my brother is taking the train in from New York City to make the show with me.

Unfortunately, Motorhead is not playing the Mohegan Sun. I'm not sure why but they are playing a headlining gig at The Palladium in Worcester, MA at the same time. It's too bad because my brother was looking forward to Motorhead but he still gets Testament, Priest, & Dio-era Sabbath.....you can't go wrong with that!

Stay tuned for a review......
