Solange

The 2nd single (my favorite), "Sandcastle Disco",  is a very catchy upbeat track. If you know anything about Solange's writing skills, you will clearly see why the track is titled as such. Just recently Solange shot the video for "Sandcastle Diso" (which she directed herself) and it is Fresh, Vibrant, & Colorful just like the artist herself.

Kevin Skwerl, the blogger who last week leaked nine tracks from forthcoming Guns N Roses album ‘Chinese Democracy’, was visited by two FBI agents yesterday (June 23) and questioned about the source of his files.

Skwerl last week posted nine songs from the album on his blog Antiquiet, but immediately erased the tracks after Axl Rose’s attorneys got in touch and requested the removal.

Skwerl, a former employee of Universal Music, was visited at his office by two FBI agents who questioned him for 15 minutes about the source of the files and scheduled a house call to Skwerl’s house this morning, asking to see the original files. Skwerl did not have the files.

After posting the files last week, the blog crashed from the sheer number of visitors to the site and Skwerl was contacted by “a really cool guy from the Gn’R camp that was a middle man between someone who was very angry and me. He was trying to reach out and see if I’d go without a fight, which is more or less what I did,” he told rollingstone.com.

Skwerl is not stressing about any possible legal action that may be taken saying:

“I’m not so worried about that. It’s a legal grey area since it wasn’t for download, it wasn’t a finished product. We aren’t sure who owns the recordings. I feel like I might survive this.”

The infamous album is reported to have cost in excess of $13million (£6.5million) to produce but its release is said to have been held up by discussions between Rose and the band’s record label Geffen Records, over rights.

A poster calling themselves Skwerl made the nine songs available on Wednesday, without revealing their source, but the tracks were removed hours later.

The poster wrote: "I always said that the more that Axl and Geffen jerked around trying to figure out how to release this finally finished album that we’ve all been waiting over 13 years for, the greater the chances would be that it would slip out of a pressing plant or office somewhere and wind up in the hands of some asshole with a blog. So…"

Despite the hasty removal of the songs, reportedly after a call from the band’s lawyers, they soon spread throughout the internet, appearing on filesharing sites as well as YouTube.

Once released, the album will be the first original recording from Guns N' Roses since the 1991 releases of Use Your Illusion.

It is rumoured that a Guns N’ Roses reality TV show is set to be broadcast to coincide with the official release of the album.

In reference to the lengthy wait for the album, the California pop-punk band The Offspring announced in 2003 that their next album would be entitled Chinese Democrazy (You Snooze, You Lose).

Je suis pas trop objectif avec Weezer. C'est un groupe culte pour moi, j'aime tout ce qu'ils font. Mon album préféré reste toutefois Pinkerton.

Reste que l'album rouge est un bel effort! Je n'ai écouté l'album que deux fois et je sens que c'est le genre d'album que plus on écoute, plus on apprécie. Rivers Cuomo a vraiment trouvé sa voix ses dernières années et sa composition musicale est très très efficace. Très bon album.

Le livret de l'édition deluxe est vraiment bien, chaque chanson est annotée avec des commentaires faits sous la forme d'une interview avec le groupe. Les quatre chansons bonus se prennent bien comme digestif à la fin.

Ya récemment eu une réédition de l'album bleu avec un disque bonus (à genre 40$) dans la série des albums "deluxe". Ca semble interessant mais cest un peu hors-budget pour moi.

Les fans de Weezer, ne manquez pas l'album solo (plutôt une compilation de ses enregistrements) de Rivers Cuomo paru un peu plus tôt cette année.

Part two of a four-part series I’m doing this week, featuring bands that should have made it big, but for one reason or another it just didn’t happen. Each day I will add a new band and a new photo.

The Nymphs had it all – great songs, a great CD, an authentically wild lead singer, a kick ass live show and, most importantly – controversy. After the band’s A&R Rep at Geffen insisted they not play any more live shows in L.A. until they finished their long awaited CD, the band’s singer, Inger Lorre burst into his office in a drunken rage, and pissed all over his desk.
That relationship was bound to get ugly. The Nymphs had always wanted to sign with a small indie label, but couldn’t pass up Geffen Record’s offer of an advance just under one million dollars. Somehow, after the peeing incident, the CD was quickly released, but unfortunately the first single didn’t take off and the label seemed to de-prioritize the band. Then, in February of 1991, Inger’s boyfriend - Chris Schlosshardt of The Sea Hags - died of a heroine overdose. This was the final nail in the coffin for the Nymphs. Inger never recovered from her loss and the band fell apart.

For those who don’t know Game has a new album entitled L.A.X dropping on July 8.  I finally had the chance to listen to his new single, “Game’s Pain”, which features RnB star Keyshia Cole.  After hearing the song I have to give it 3 ½ out of five stars.  I feel the song was a great idea but was executed horribly.  I like where Game was trying to go, but the effort behind the lyrics wasn’t what it should have been.  He is basically giving a rundown of the people he used to look up to in hip hop, and paying homage.  He also describes elements of his life with the songs and artist that were prevalent during certain times.  Keyshia did an excellent job on the hook and definitely did her job on the song. 

The thing that gets me about the song is Game’s presentation of the lyrics; delivery/ flow. It’s sounds like you can almost hear Game reading from a piece of paper while reciting these lyrics; it should not be like this.  I do however like how Game cares about the culture of hip hop and tries to make songs with some thought to them, but he has to work on his delivery; and please get some energy.  It’s still good to hear songs like this, so yea, give it a listen.  It’s definitely a feel good song.

Auf mich wirken Geffens Auesserungen ziemlich entlarvend:

Der Attentäter Yigal Amir hat an diesem Abend den Traum meiner Generation zerstört, nur ein paar Meter von mir entfernt. In diesem Moment wurde mir schlagartig klar, dass sich binnen weniger Sekunden die Zukunft meines Landes verändern würde.

Ja, es war ein Wunschtraum und ohne den Mord an Rabin haetten wir ihn womoeglich noch ein paar Monate weiter traeumen koennen.

Die Palästinenser sind gute Menschen, auch wenn wir das nicht auf Sendern wie CNN oder auf Fox News sehen.

Wir sehen das auch nicht auf den palaestinensischen Fernsehsendern, weder der Hamas noch der Fatah, wo Hasspredigten gegen Juden ausgestrahlt werden und das Kinderprogramm fuer Selbstmordattentate wirbt. CNN unternimmt ganz im Gegenteil sehr viel, um diese Selbstdarstellung der “guten Menschen” nach Kraeften unter den Tisch fallen zu lassen.

Das, was während des Zweiten Weltkriegs den Juden angetan wurde, hat dazu geführt, dass wir bis heute paranoid sind. Die Nazis haben versucht, die gesamte jüdische Gemeinschaft auszurotten. Und natürlich tun wir deshalb alles, um unseren Kindern Hoffnung für die Zukunft zu geben. Aber ich denke, gerade deshalb müssen wir den Palästinensern vertrauen. Denn ohne Vertrauen, gibt es keine Hoffnung. Keine Hoffnung bedeutet kein Leben. So einfach ist das.

Blindes Vertrauen oder Vertrauen wider besseres Wissen, mit anderen Worten Wunschdenken ist demnach der Schluessel zur Hoffnung. Und Hoffnung ist gleichbedeutend mit Leben. Jemand wie Geffen lebt wahrscheinlich ohnehin in einer Phantasiewelt und kann sich gar nicht vorstellen, wie es ein Normalsterblicher in der realen Welt aushaelt. Vermutlich empfaende er, waere er dazu gezwungen, das Aufgeben seines Sonderstatus, als eine Art Sterben/Tod.

Wie narzisstisch Geffen ist, wird spaetestens hier klar:

Aber ich spiele große Konzerte mit 40.000 Zuschauern und ich sage auf der Bühne, dass ich gegen die Besatzung bin, dass wir uns zurückziehen müssen, auch aus Ostjerusalem. Meine Feinde in der israelischen Regierung sagen zu mir

Die Friedensbewegung steht und faellt mit den Konzerten von Geffen! Die israelische Regierung hat Geffen in den Rang eines Feindes erhoben! Aber viel schlimmer:

Denn ich habe noch nie gesehen, dass ein Aviv Geffen Erwähnung in dem Kampf der anderen Seite findet. Noch nie. Ich habe auf der ganzen Welt Konzerte gegeben, werde jeden Tag interviewt, ich kämpfe für den Frieden. Aber ich suche immer noch nach der Wahrnehmung auf der palästinensischen oder syrischen Seite.

Die “guten Menschen” auf der anderen Seite ignorieren Geffen! Sie scheinen nicht zu realisieren, dass er der Messias (aeh, Mahdi) ist, der ihnen den Frieden bringen wird!

es ist noch schwieriger für mich zu akzeptieren, dass es nur einige Kilometer von mir entfernt Menschen gibt, die kein Wasser haben, nichts zu essen, keine Heizung, um im Winter ihre Häuser zu wärmen. Das ist nicht menschlich.

Hm, ich wage die Behauptung, dass es auch in London (wo Geffen ebenfalls lebt) nur einige Kilometer von ihm entfernt Menschen gibt, denen Wasser, Nahrung und Heizung nicht garantiert sind. Wenn Geffen auf seinen Konzerten auch fuer die Sache der Obdachlosen und Slumbewohner in England eintreten sollte, dann habe ich das verpasst.

Ich kann dem Frieden vertrauen, ich kann den Arabern vertrauen. Viele junge Menschen aus Saudi-Arabien, aus dem Libanon, aus Syrien und Iran besuchen meine Myspace-Seite im Internet und schicken mir Nachrichten. Sie kennen mich und sie alle lieben Musik.

Und warum hat er dieses Vertrauen in den Frieden? Ja klar doch, weil es Araber gibt, die ihm Fanpost schicken! Die ZEIT ist sich da mit Geffen einig. Es koennen nur die Israelis sein, die noch nicht zum Frieden bereit sind, vor allem von den Siedlern glaubt man zu wissen, dass sie Fanatiker und Kriegsliebhaber sind.

ZEIT online: Ist denn die israelische Gesellschaft bereit für Frieden? Sie haben eine kurze Zeit in einer israelischen Siedlung verbracht.

Geffen teilt bemerkenswerterweise gerade dieses Vorurteil nicht. Nach seiner Antwort zu schliessen haette er mehr Verstaendnis fuer Siedler aus religioese Ueberzeugung als fuer diejenigen, die aus pragmatischen Gruenden in Siedlungen gezogen sind. Aber er beeilt sich, auf die Linie der ZEIT einzuschwenken.

Es gibt ja auch noch die Orthodoxen. Sie dürfen den ganzen Tag beten, müssen nicht arbeiten, weil die Regierung sie sponsert. Sie bekommen Geld für jedes Kind, das sie in die Welt setzen. Sie bezahlen keine Miete, keine Steuern. Alles, was sie tun müssen, ist zu Gott zu beten.

Gemeint sind natuerlich die Haredim (und gerade nicht die Orthodoxen). Das eine grosse Zahl von Haredim den Staat Israel ueberhaupt ablehnen und daher keine Einwaende gegen die Aufgabe von Gebieten haben, erinnert Geffen in diesem Moment nicht. Dagegen wuerde er das Kindergeld (das natuerlich fuer jedes israelische Kind, auch fuer nicht-juedische) bezahlt wird, gern selektiv gestalten.

Wir müssen viel Geld in die richtigen Hände im Gazatsreifen investieren.

Naeher traut sich Geffen nicht an die Tatsache, dass der Gazastreifen von einer islamistischen Terrororganisation beherrscht wird, die Israels Zerstoerung als Programm hat. Wie er verhindern wuerde, dass Gelder und Investitionen im Gazastreifen einfach von der Hamas requiriert wuerden (man vergleiche die humantiaeren Lieferungen Oel, Medikamente), verraet er uns nicht.

Wir brauchen Ostjerusalem nicht. Keiner meiner Freunde fährt dorthin, um Zeit zu verbringen.

Weil es in Ostjerusalem keine Pubs oder anderen Treffpunkte gibt, wo Geffen und seine Freunde sich gern vergnuegen wuerden, braucht Israel Ostjerusalem nicht. Was sind schon Tempelberg, Klagemauer gegenueber einer richtig fetzigen Bar (oder wie man das im gegenwaertigen Jugendsprech ausdrueckt)!

Und zum Schluss das progressive Credo (nur schlechter formuliert als bei Oz und Grossman); Alle Menschen ticken so wie ich:

Ich denke, das Gefühl, das alle Menschen teilen, ist die Traurigkeit. Jeder weiß, was es heißt, traurig zu sein. Wenn Paare sich trennen, sich scheiden lassen. Wenn die Kindheit verloren geht. All das lässt sich unter dem Schirm der Traurigkeit zusammenfassen und ich beschäftige mich mit diesen Dingen. Ich rede über Gott, obwohl ich nicht sicher bin, dass es ihn gibt. Wenn es ihn gibt, dann vertraue ich ihm, bin aber nicht sicher, ob er auch an mich glaubt. All diese Dinge versteht man überall auf der Welt.

Nokia, the big enterprise! That is well known for cell phones. Has for a long while tried to get the cell phones to steal the market from MP3 players world wide. I guess they even when T.I. had a Nokia phone in his music video for “Big Shit Poppin’” and another music video with a Nokia was Young Jeezy “I Luv It”. It’s not enough for the company to get their product placed in popular music videos. I guess the board isn’t happy with the small results out of it. Especially when they have used a lot of cash to make the cell phones made for calling, texting and listening to music. Until now, the consumer has earned on this. Since the competition is hard in the cell phone marked. The other companies have also got into this segment music phones. Like Sony Ericsson and LG for two examples. Nokia now is paying Universal Music Group (UMG), 35 dollars so every user of Nokia can get the catalogue of music down to their cell phone. That means that every artist that is in connection to UMG is getting a “free marketing place”. UMG is getting cash to show its artist to every user of Nokia. That will mean that Interscope, Geffen, Aftermath, G-Unit, Shady & so on. Now they get a great spot for marketing that competition doesn’t have. It’s alright, but this will be a run for monopoly or is it the best for the consumer. Until now, for my part, I haven’t bought a music phone until now. Ok, mine isn’t a Nokia and that ain’t my problem. That is bullshit. I have chosen a Sony Walkman phone. But doesn’t mind me which company Nokia and Universal Music are supporting to keep their engine going. The other thing that can become a problem is because Nokia is paying per cell phone with usage of music. They will have some of the money back because of the payment. So the consumer must by only from UMG in the future. That is a worst case scenario. I don’t know the future do you?

I guess we both are in the same boat. If your ass ain’t driving: UMG or Nokia. This is just what I’m thinking when I read the news about this. If an artist from this companies and under labels who connect them to UMG. This deal is guarantying UMG artist in a new way of proving quality of music to the world. Sell it and get more out of nothing. The Nokia user is getting an easy shop to buy the hottest track from UMG artists. Already it is companies selling music not owned by the music industry or the cell phone companies. This means in the long run that UMG has the control of the music listeners of Nokia is buying. Since the most artists selling to this kind of phones is ending up to be UMG artist. Even thou the consumer still are going to have an opportunity to get his song from his own computer to the cell phone. The consumer still going to do what is easy. So that means that the consumer of this kind of products who has a Nokia. Gets UMG artist easy and fair priced. Opposite to the rest of the artist, which if you want them you need to connect the old way to get their tracks on your phone. If you understand what I’ve tried to tell you, Nokia got into bed with UMG to get the music market. Sell it who is a good idea and very smart. UMG is big with a great deal of artist and products the consumer wants. But this is a start of a monopoly if it doesn’t open for music from other labels. I don’t hate, I’m just realistic about the situation. I got no problem with the old model of getting information on my phone. But I guess a lot of people going to use the easy way of getting the music. Downloading it from a shop on the phone and they are only getting UMG in the future.

I hope the other record companies start dealing with Samsung, LG or Sony Ericsson. So the market can open up and let the artist get a few new spots to market their music. Maybe, in the future the only place the sales for music is on the cell phone. Since the downloading is stealing so big spots of the market. Keep it trill folks, stay true, and see what the music companies do. Peace

Wahrscheinlich hat man bei Artistdirect.com/therockradio.com einen Sinn für verspätete Aprilscherze. Angeblich haben Guns´n´Roses ihr seit 14(!) Jahren in Arbeit befindliches Album bei ihrer Plattenfirma Geffen abgegeben. Jetzt muss nur noch die Sache mit der Kohle geklärt werden und wem eigentlich am Ende was gehört, immerhin hat die Produktion bisher geschätzte 13 Millionen Dollar gekostet. Dann allerdings kann die Platte endlich in die Plattenläden. Wers glaubt wird selig. Wenn sie nicht aufpassen, dann gibts bald keine Plattenläden mehr.

Ebenfalls erwähnenswert. Der amerikanische Softdrink-Hersteller Dr Pepper möchte jedem amerikanischen Bürger eine Dose seines erfrischenden Softdrinks schenken, sollte das Album 2008 das Licht der Welt erblicken. Wie auch die Entwicklungszeit des Softdrinks lange gebraucht hätte, um seinen Geschmack zu perfektionieren, hätte der Konzern auch großes Verständnis für Axls Bedürfnis das perfekte Album abzuliefern. "We know, once it´s released, "People will refer to it as "Dr Pepper for the ears" because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds -- an instant classic." verkündete Dr Pepper Pressesprecher Jaxie Alt, alles nachzulesen auf der G´N´R Myspaceseite.
