It's not like this muxtaper needs some fans - already half a tonne registered this playlist as a favourite. Coming straight out of Sweden, Kissey Asplund has a knack for selecting dope sonics for her singjay styling. Her album titled Plethora was released in April and since then she kept it moving by collaborating with a number of new up and coming producers. One of them being Detroit producer Daru beats who my man DJ O.S.U.M put me up on last year. Keith Elam and Christopher Martin are among the rare cats that have had a career in hip-hop that spans more than 20 years. Most people fall off at some point, but these keep going. From the beginnings when they were the flagship for jazz-rap to the dirty, choppy, "classic" New York sound of the Nineties and Noughties that has been coined in great part by Premier himself, it's pretty safe to say that this duo has left its mark on hip-hop music. DJ Premier's magic beat formula has helped countless MCs to have their instant classic singles while Guru has guest-starred on tracks and connected with people around the whole world. Guru and Premier are the embodiment of NY City hip-hop and they've brought the city's sound and style to every head on the globe.

This is a compilation (a bootleg, I guess) of the tracks they've done outside their Gangstarr releases, i.e. either Premier production/remixes or Guru guest spots as either an MC or a producer himself.

All in all, there are no less than 476 tracks, or 2.5 GBs that come in servings of about album-size, lettered from A to Z. The tracks themselves are in no particular order, but if you want to know what's there to have, peep the tracklist here.

And while you're working yourself from A to Z, I thought I'd give you something appropriate to listen to. No, it's not a Gangstarr track, but it's LL helping you to spell your way through the alphabet. ;)

The songs that make up the songs. Having recently come across some original samples that were used by Ghostface Killah and Gang Starr - I noticed a few of them sounded damn familiar to me. So here's a little case of sample example:

Big Daddy Kane's track is made up of the intro of The Emotions' "Blind Alley" and the strange sound of ESG's "UFO" (which is awesome stuff) in the background. ESG's track "UFO" has also been sampled and used by Ghostface, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Junior Mafia, Cutmaster D.C., Doug E Fresh, Wu Tang, and others. Gang Starr used a sample of "Blind Alley" on their track "Comin' for Datazz" from the album Hard to Earn. I'm also adding the Cutmaster D.C. joint cause it uses the ESG sample and was used by De La Soul in their track "Cool Breeze on the Rocks".

Material scos la labelul celor doi (Guru & Solar), 7 Grand Records, Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 este mult asteptata continuare a deja celebrei serii Jazzmatazz. Albumul este in totalitate produs de catre Solar si co-produs de catre Guru. Albumul include invitati speciali precum David Sanborn, Common, Bob James, Damian Marley, Bobby Valentino, Vivian Green, Blackalicious, Kem, Caron Wheeler (of Soul2Soul) si Raheem Devaughn.
"Fara indoiala, acesta este cel mai bun Jazzmatazz dintre cele lansate pana acum. " explica Guru continuand cu "Acesta contine nu numai Hip-Hop si Jazz ci si elemente din Soul, Funk si Rock."

Cut Chemist, DJ y productor de Los Ángeles, es conocido en el mundo entero por su destreza en los platos como una de las estrellas del turntablism.

Non content d’avoir reçu des avis à moitié défavorables pour le volume 4 de sa célèbre série des Jazzmatazz (contrecoup de son divorce d’avec DJ Premier ?), Guru revoie ses ambitions à la baisse avec une mixtape, sa toute première depuis 20 ans de carrière. Celle-ci est mixée par le célèbre DJ new-yorkais Doo Wop et distribuée en Europe par la PME allemande Rapster Records. Le concept de cette tape Back to the Future

Dans cette galerie rap old school encombrée par de nombreux visiteurs tels que Aceyalone, Zion I, le latino Tony Touch qui reforme ici les Diaz Brothers avec son comparse Doo Wop, les Blue Scholars venus de Seattle, Nature (ex-The Firm), Lord Tariq (sans Peter Gunz), et plein d’autres encore, se sont glissés les remixes de « States of Clarity » featuring Common et « Stand Up (Some Things’ll Never Change) » avec Damian Marley, tous deux extraits du dernier volet de Guru’s Jazzmatazz. Pour ce qui concerne la démarche de cette mixtape, il est clair que les nostalgiques de la vieille école se sentiront comblés par ces re-créations d'instrus ô combien mythiques sur lesquels Guru lâche des couplets inédits avec son flow limpide reconnaissable entre mille. Néanmoins, cette approche de ramener le passé dans le présent retranscrit implicitement le fait que le MC a du mal à se détacher de la gloire des Gangstarr et ne fait que confirmer son statut de old timer. Chiner et poncer des classiques rap n’est décidément pas la solution pour ramener le bon vieux hip-hop. Il faut savoir vivre avec son temps, n'est-ce pas Guru. Ce procédé entre en contradiction avec son Version 7.0: The Street Scripture bourré de fraîcheur.
