I should probably be seeing art flicks that I want to see, like Gonzo and The Last Mistress. I can't get those in Korea. But I couldn't resist seeing The Dark Knight and Wall-E, two movies I've been really excited about.

The Dark Knight, while thoroughly entertaining, didn't quite live up to the hype for me. It was solid entertainment, but I don't understand all these online articles I've found heaping God-like praise on it. I'll state the obvious: The best thing about it is The Joker. I won't even say "Heath Ledger" because the performance is so goddamned good, Heath is nowhere to be found. He completely disappeared into the role to the point where the only thing you experience is this twisted character. Here the hype is accurate; it's a work of brilliance. There's an almost apologetic tone when it comes to Christian Bale's performance — "yes, he's also brilliant" — but it's just a polite way of saying that he's completely outshined. And I like Christian Bale.

I liked Wall-E better. In fact, I absolutely loved this movie to the point where it made me giddy just to sit there and watch it unfold. The story was not only great, it was bold and courageous in a way that's never been done in mainstream, Western animated film. When a blockbuster cartoon pisses off gaggles of conservatives, you know there's something a little deeper going on. What I really connected with was the way the filmmakers presented this post-apocalyptic, single-observer world and a sense of total isolation. You begin with one character, brilliantly designed, in a world completely empty of life. Eventually we get a visitor and then we travel to the other extreme — a completely overpopulated world. The story dynamics felt kind of like a symphonic composition, where things start small and eventually open wide to present something much larger.

On a purely geek level, the sound design was stellar. There was no traditional dialogue for the first hour, and it allowed other, more creative storytelling elements to shine through. This is what happens when a sound designer is brought in during the conceptual, pre-production phase of a film. And it doesn't hurt when that designer is a legend like Ben Burtt. More films should take notice of Wall-E's example.

Då stannar jag hellre inne, kanske går ner till tempo, hämtar mitt brev och köper en glass lr nåt...men fan heller att jag går ner på stan i det här...eller sitter på en äckelpäckel buss och svettas med resten av fornhöjdens befolkning...nej tack!

Jag brukar va en sån som blir ointresserad av filmer/musik när den får så jävla bra kritik, som te x Matrix,Braveheart, Gladiator osv. Sen när jag väl sätter mig ner och tittar på den så fastnar jag, Matrix var urbra...den 2:a suger dock och trean orkar jag inte ens se, men däremot så gladiator har jag fortfarande inte sett..och Braveheart va ju sådär bra som alla säger!

Nu e d så att The Dark knight har fått sjukt bra recensioner, och jag äcklas inte av den, lr hur man nu säger...jag vill se den. NU!

Så jag vet inte, såg att det (kors i taket) finns biljetter kvar på Heron nu på lördag, visserligen så ska jag, Anna och syrran på malma, men vi borde va hemma till 5..(???) bion börjar 18.10...! Kanske ska fråga om Anna och Tony vill se, och kanske Mange lr nån...hmm...ett projekt väl värt att se in i...dock kanske man ska sätta sig på en uteservering i värmen istället för att titta på film...! Igår såg jag en halv säsong av Ultimate Force igen, så nu går jag runt och tänker "Who dares wins" stup i kvarten. Gick och lade mig efter ett avsnitt igår, det var... gripande. Kärringen var otrogen mot Pete och Pete i sin tur har äntligen fattat att han behöver hjälp. Höll på att börja lipa ett tag däremellan, tyckte så förbaskat synd om honom bara. Vill för övrigt inte se nästa avsnitt för det ska (enligt min spoiler) vara sista avsnittet som jag kommer att älska. Sedan är det, slut. Well, Henno blir ju kvar. Men vem kan tycka om Henno? Visst, huvudpersonen i all ära, men jag känner absolut ingen som helst sympati för den snubben! Stor, ful och skallig är han. Den klassiska bilden av en SAS-soldat (näst efter Sean Bean) fast betydligt fulare (alltså Sean Beans raka motsats). Hoppas ingen av er har planerat att se den här serien för jag misstänker att jag spoilar er.

Och nu till nästa problem... Kan man inte ändra färg på texten i den här bloggen eller !? Alltså, jag vill ha ordet "spoilar" (se föregående fetstilta mening) i röd skrikande text, men icke då. Eller? Hjälp.

Det roliga med den här dagen är att jag inte knäppte på datorn fören klockan 1, halv 2 cirka (hör jublet!). Mycket då till grund av att jag och moder flög iväg till biblioteket. Jag fastnade vid sociologihyllorna och läste en bok om fotografering utgiven av National Geographic's fotografer (mina idoler, näst efter Sean Bean, Daniel Day Lewis och Anton Corbijn). Sedan hittade jag en bok om IRA som jag inte har läst tidigare, "IRA innifrån" .. (in heaven), och den är skriven lite republikansktvänlig så den lilla svensken som plitade ihop orden i boken är för IRA hellre än storbrittanien (kulkulkul!). Bok nummer tre jag fann var en roman av Chris Ryan, "Inget val" (som råkar handla om en SAS-soldat som får sin familj kidnappad av IRA), och den är brittiskvänlig (dödödö!) Så ikväll kommer jag här och nu lova er en avskrivning av det argument (ensidiga) jag sade till mamma tidigare då jag skummade igenom "IRA innifrån" lite som hastigast. Det ser ni väl framemot, aye !? :D

Vad är det med mig och serier som ingen annan tycker om? På senaste tid har jag blivit mer eller mindre besatt av "The Black Donnellys", och det är inte bara därför att det handlar om den irländska maffian i Hell's Kitchen (New York) utan därför att den dessutom är en helt underbar serie! Humoristisk, skönt gjord, bra soundtrack och allt däremellan. Personligen har jag nog en hemlig crush i Kevin, även om han, när man googlar fram bilder, inte är någon snygging. Jag tycker bara om karaktären, lite lagom tystlåten och även om han inte är den yngste i brödraskaran så behandlar de honom lite som en lillebror. För ja, jag känner igen mig en del. För att inte tala om avsnittet då telefonen ringde, ingen orkade svara och tillslut blev Kevin helt uppriven, "Answer the phone! Or i'll go around all day and wonder who it was!" Han har tvångstankar! Kan det bli mycket sötare än så? Nåväl, vad jag ville ha sagt var egentligen den grymma verkligheten att TBD slutade att produceras efter författarstrejken och de två sista avsnitten sänds inte på tv. Det vill säga... så går det bara två, tre avsnitt till här i sverige innan det är över för alltid! Samma sak hände med "Smith", en serie som jag började följa efter halva första avsnittet, visst jag var ingen trogen tittare och missade en del. Men jag tyckte om den och vad hände? Jo de slutade att producera den efter en HALV säsong! Har amerikanarna något emot mig eller? Dessutom, för att göra saker och ting värre, så vet jag vilket avsnitt av "Ultimate Force" Pete kommer att dö i. Den andra serien jag är besatt i.

Spaced Makes it to North America on DVD

Now this, I'm excited about. I did a piece on the NTSC DVD release of Spaced for Telewatcher, and now I'm going to go out and see about finding a box. (And, if you click through and read it, I really did discover the show because I met some people from England who had literally hauled their PAL videos and TV over here when they came and insisted on showing it to me.)

Short version, Spaced is the British comedy series that launched Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), but it was never aired in North America, so they never released it over here on disc.

Recension "Försoning"

Filmen, som blev nominerad till 7 Oscars, baseras på romanen med samma namn skriven av Ian McEwan. Cecilia Tallis (Keira Knightley) och Robbie Turner (James McAvoy) har precis insett sin kärlek till varandra när de slits isär på grund av en felaktig brottsanklagelse. Samtidigt rasar andra världskriget i Europa och trots att de kämpar för att finna varandra igen slås deras liv i spillror.

Det låter som vilket romantiskt drama som helst, men Försoning är så mycket mer. James McAvoy var dessutom mycket trovärdig i sin huvudroll. Trots de otroligt vackra miljöerna kändes början av filmen ganska seg och intetsägande. Pampig musik byggde upp till en spänning som aldrig tycktes infinna sig. Men så efter halva filmen vände plötsligt handlingen och befann sig vid den brittiska arméns evakuering i Dunkerque. Denna skildrades med en flera minuter lång scen gjord i en enda tagning med över tusen statister som visar det överväldigande kaos och den sorg som blivit deras vardag. Mot slutet av filmen är den så vacker att det gör ont i magen. Jag tror att den växer för varje gång man ser den och kanske skulle den till och med kunna nå upp till högsta betyg.

Det finns en så vacker och samtidigt tragisk ton som håller genom hela filmen. Den hoppar mellan åren och skalar långsamt av lager för lager och presenterar nya perspektiv på historien. En mycket vacker och konstnärlig film som genom de underbara miljöerna och det vackra fotot nästan blir till poesi.

Janet Jacksons "puppestunt" under Super Bowl 2004 skapte harnisk i USA, FCC som er USAs statlige sømmelighetsorgan sendte CBS en bot på 550 000 dollar, for å ha utsatt befolkningen for et slikt grufullt syn på tv. Puppen var ikke synlig i knapt mer enn 1 sekund, men det var vist for sterk kost for FCC. Jeg tror faktisk ikke så veldig mange mennesker tok skade av det, jeg tror de fleste mennesker over en alder av 3 har sett en pupp en eller annen gang i livet sitt, og uten at de har fått varige traumer av det. Kanskje på tide at USA avskaffer det rigide sømmelighetsorganet, og tar steget inn i år 2008. CBS slapp nå boten da, men bare det å bruke så mye tid og energi på noe slikt nonens er jo bare helt latterlig.

Selvhøytidlige mennesker

Saksøke filmskapere er tydelig i vinden for tiden, for nå er nok en film fra Hollywood blitt truet med søksmål, for ikke så lenge siden fornærmet vist Mike Myers Hinduismen med sin komdie film, og nå er det animasjonsfilmen Kung Fu Panda som er i hardt vær. Kung Fu Panda fornærmer vist det kinesiske folket, tydeligvis har ikke kineserne fått med seg at dette faktisk er en tegnefilm laget for barn, en film man skal le av og ikke ta så alvorlig. Samme gjelder Mike Myers nye komedie, dette er også en film man skal le av, og ikke ta veldig alvorlig, man kan i grunn ikke ta Mike Myers mye alvorlig etter min mening. Enkelte menneskeslag er veldig hårsåre virker det som, de tar seg selv så høytidelige at de ikke kan tillate at noen harselerer med dem. Nå har vi nordmenn blitt harselert med i ganske mange filmer gjennom tidene, men går vi ut å bærer oss for det? Nei, vi ler av det, for det var det som var meningen med filmene.

Kanskje jeg også skal dra over til statene, finne en film som fornærmer oss nordmenn, saksøke filmskaperen og bli rik...

Smooth little pills

I have a new metaphor for my trans-cultural existence:

You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

That, of course, is the choice Morpheus gives to Neo in The Matrix. It works for me because the pill is one's choice of experience. Regardless of which pill I take, I'm still essentially me. But the environment is distinctly different. My observations, experiences, and thoughts are a result of that environment. What I don't know in this metaphor is which one is which. I suppose the red pill is Korea.

I find myself crossing off my mental list of must-do things. Most of them involve food: A really good burrito, check; a really good tikka masala, check; a nice IPA, done; hash browns? yep. But I'm also seeing a lot of people I want to see, having some great conversations, and enjoying everything there is to be had here. Last night was a reunion of two of my friends and former colleagues at the university in Busan. It was a non-stop chatter-fest for a good five or six hours. Anytime there was the slightest gap in conversation, someone would pounce to fill it. I love it when that happens.

Bio och biljard

Hej hopp i cybervärlden igen! Nu var det länge sedan jag hade ngt behov av att skriva. Sommaren har kommit och snart gått igen känns det som. Har mest varit sjuk och sprungit hos läkare och på undersökningar. Men om detta tänker jag inte skriva idag. Har ingen "gnälldag" idag och känner mig förhållandevis pigg dessutom. Nåja, jag kanske ska definiera "pigg". Det innebär att jag kan vara uppe nästan hela dagen. Fast helst vilar jag ett par gånger per dag en stund. Jag kan gå c:a 50-100 meter och skulle nog klara en lätt, kort trappa om jag måste. Det ni!

Sambon har jag skickat iväg på semester för att hon ska få se något annat än storstaden och mig. Lite lantluft, havsluft och kanske en och annan fotosafari gör henne säkert gott!

Själv har jag gudsonen på besök. Han är tjugofem år och bor till vardags i Oslo där han nästan aldrig är för han bor mest i sin lastbil på någon parkering i Europa. Men han är nöjd med sitt liv och tjänar pengar så han kan leva som han vil - vilket nog kan kallas "att leva livet". Men nog finns det tankar hos min "lille gutt" om framtiden. Familj? Jobb? Ja, ni vet de där stor frågorna i den åldern.

I går var vi på bio och såg "Hancock", en film om en något neddekad superhjälte. Den gjorde sig på bio med det höga ljudet och känslan av att saker föll rakt över en mellan varven. Hemma tror jag inte att jag tyckt att det var en film värd att minnas.

Apropå biografer förresten. Varför i all världen tränger de ihop alla i mitten av en jättebiograf? Varför inte sprida ut folk lite? Och varför fick inte vi en "fästmans-soffa"? Ansågs vi ha för stor åldersskillnad??? Mobbad var vad jag kände mig! Men vi var väl inte dummare än att vi flyttade på oss alldeles innan bion började och la beslag på varsin "fästmanssoffa"!!

Dagen innan var vi iväg och spelade biljard med därtill hörande drycker för de övriga. Själv inmundigerade jag en gul läsk från det stora bolaget med den svarta drycken som är så känd. Det var roligt att spela även om jag är ytterst amatörmässig, minst sagt. Jag träffar kloten men så mcyket mer är det inte och det är inte varje gång jag träffar dem! Men vi hade roligt och jag ska absolut leta reda på en biljardhall i närheten så sambon och jag kan roa oss. Hon har föreslagit det tidigare men jag mindes inte det när hon nämnde det i gårdagens kvällssamtal.

Nej, nu ska gudsonen, M, hem till sin mormor och vara en duktig pojke och bära saker och sånt. Själv ska jag städa mitt skrivbord och tvätta svarta kläder. Grabben hade en del som behövde vaskas upp för han ska dra direkt uti Europa på luffen med tågens hjälp.

Ha en bra dag därute, oavsett väder!

As many as eighteen soldiers a day are committing suicide and most of those soldiers kill themselves after they return home. Their divorce rate has tripled since the beginning of the war and substance abuse among veterans is four times the national average. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg according to Who Will Stand producer/director Phil Valentine.

The two hour documentary covers, in detail, the plights of more than a dozen soldiers who have returned either physically or psychologically wounded, including hard-to-measure effects of post traumatic stress disorder...

Many of the films on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan take sides on whether we should have gone there, whether we should still be there and when we should leave. Who Will Stand covers none of these issues, focusing instead on the plight of returning disabled American veterans.

Holy blockbuster, Batman! The Dark Knight grossed a behemoth $155.3 million from Friday through Sunday, according to early estimates, to score the biggest three-day opening in box-office history, while leading the way on a weekend for the record books...

[A]ssuming the early estimates hold, it set new standards in just about every category imaginable. It scored the biggest three-day opening weekend of all time (beating Spider-Man 3's $151.1 mil bow). It achieved the best opening day and single day in history ($66.4 mil, shattering Spider-Man 3's mark of $59.8 mil). It brought in the most money from Friday midnight shows of any release ever ($18.5 mil, passing Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith's $16.9 mil). It banked a record $6.2 mil from 94 IMAX venues over the weekend (Spider-Man 3 had the old record, $4.7 mil). And it did it all with the biggest theater count, 4,366 locations, of all time.

As it happened, The Dark Knight wasn't the only record breaker at the box office this weekend. By coming in at No. 2 with $27.6 mil, Mamma Mia! set a new mark for the biggest premiere ever for a movie musical, if that early estimate holds (Hairspray banked $27.5 mil on its first weekend a year ago). That total also passes the $27.5 mil that star Meryl Streep's The Devil Wears Prada earned in its debut two summers back, and it can be credited to the same crowd: older women. Yep, a whopping three-quarters of the film's audience was ladies, and 64 percent was over the age of 30.

Filmrecensioner är något jag tycker är ganska roande att läsa, speciellt inför nya filmer som man är nyfiken på men inte riktigt vet om de är värda att lägga ner några timmar på. Inför Walking Tall - The Payback hade jag inte läst så värst mycket mer än lite kommentarer på youtube. Jag hade inga stora förhoppningar på den då alla verkade vara av lite samma åsikt: skitfilm. Men eftersom jag är lite såld på AJ Buckley (Adam Ross i CSI NY) så ville jag ändå se den, då de klipp jag sett av honom ur den filmen varit skrämmande bra. Jag vill inte påstå att jag blev besviken, för det blev jag inte. Filmen är ifrån 2007 och enligt de flesta något av ett brott mot mänskligheten då den är uppföljare till diverse andra Walking Tall-filmer.

Buckley spelar lant-maffia-bossen Harvey Morris (lamt namn), och också den enda i filmen som gör en riktigt, riktigt bra rollprestation! Huvudkaraktären Nick Prescott (Kevin Sorbo) är en lam figur, stel och trist och man får ingen som helst kärlek för honom. Är det inte det som är meningen med the good guys? Nej, här var det antagonisterna som drog det tunga lasset och gjorde en mediåker film bra. AJ Buckleys karaktär lyste på ett skrämmande sätt ifrån början till slut, hans energi och hela uppenbarelse (en tatuerad rödskäggig galning) gjorde att man trots allt ville veta hur filmen skulle sluta. In fact måste jag nog påstå att de flesta skurkarna gjorde en snygg prestation värd en eloge medan de goda bara var... lama. Men som Tim Roth en gång sade om att han alltid får skurkroller: "On a childish level, villains are just more fun"

Till slut måste jag nämna kameraarbetet. Snyggt, är en underdrift. Jag personligen har en förkärlek för närbilder och i den här filmen fick jag min beskärda del. För er som tänker se den, lägg märke till inledningen... Handen som trevar efter pistolen på asfalten och begravningsscenen där Harvey Morris gör entré genom att man ser hans skor i närbild i gräset medan begravningssällskapet syns i bakgrunden. Ni som har sett mina egna bildmanus och sett mig brainstorma vet nog hurdana bilder jag menar ;)

På en skala? En sevärd film för dig som tycker om explosioner, utpressning och hot.
