Regular readers of streetstyle sites (Stephie and I are hopeless addicts) will know that each blog will have it own unique style and quality which set them apart. Streetsnaps is reminiscent of The Face Hunter because everyone featured is crazily cool and edgy with a dose of I-don't-really-care vibe. AWESOME!

I was contemplating to buy this dress in a size too big just this week, but found the result too ill-fitting for my liking. But she wears it really well here, even if it looks a little over-sized as well.

This is one of my favourite photo so far. I love the incredible punk cut of the girl on the left, both tops and can you believe those pink&black sandals are from Mondo?!

Dalam mewujudkan kemerdekaan pers itu, wartawan Indonesia juga menyadari adanya kepentingan bangsa, tanggung jawab sosial, keberagaman masyarakat, dan norma-norma agama.

Dalam melaksanakan fungsi, hak, kewajiban dan peranannya, pers menghormati hak asasi setiap orang, karena itu pers dituntut profesional dan terbuka untuk dikontrol oleh masyarakat.

Untuk menjamin kemerdekaan pers dan memenuhi hak publik untuk memperoleh informasi yang benar, wartawan Indonesia memerlukan landasan moral dan etika profesi sebagai pedoman operasional dalam menjaga kepercayaan publik dan menegakkan integritas serta profesionalisme. Atas dasar itu, wartawan Indonesia menetapkan dan menaati Kode Etik Jurnalistik:

Pasal 1
Wartawan Indonesia bersikap independen, menghasilkan berita yang akurat, berimbang, dan tidak beritikad buruk.

a. Independen berarti memberitakan peristiwa atau fakta sesuai dengan suara hati nurani tanpa campur tangan, paksaan, dan intervensi dari pihak lain termasuk pemilik perusahaan pers.
b. Akurat berarti dipercaya benar sesuai keadaan objektif ketika peristiwa terjadi.
c. Berimbang berarti semua pihak mendapat kesempatan setara.
d. Tidak beritikad buruk berarti tidak ada niat secara sengaja dan semata-mata untuk menimbulkan kerugian pihak lain.

Pasal 2
Wartawan Indonesia menempuh cara-cara yang profesional dalam melaksanakan tugas jurnalistik.

Cara-cara yang profesional adalah:
a. menunjukkan identitas diri kepada narasumber;
b. menghormati hak privasi;
c. tidak menyuap;
d. menghasilkan berita yang faktual dan jelas sumbernya;
e. rekayasa pengambilan dan pemuatan atau penyiaran gambar, foto, suara dilengkapi dengan keterangan tentang sumber dan ditampilkan secara berimbang;
f. menghormati pengalaman traumatik narasumber dalam penyajian gambar, foto, suara;
g. tidak melakukan plagiat, termasuk menyatakan hasil liputan wartawan lain sebagai karya sendiri;
h. penggunaan cara-cara tertentu dapat dipertimbangkan untuk peliputan berita investigasi bagi kepentingan publik.

Pasal 3
Wartawan Indonesia selalu menguji informasi, memberitakan secara berimbang, tidak mencampurkan fakta dan opini yang menghakimi, serta menerapkan asas praduga tak bersalah.

a. Menguji informasi berarti melakukan check and recheck tentang kebenaran informasi itu.
b. Berimbang adalah memberikan ruang atau waktu pemberitaan kepada masing-masing pihak secara proporsional.

Wartawan Indonesia tidak membuat berita bohong, fitnah, sadis, dan cabul.

Penafsiran
a. Bohong berarti sesuatu yang sudah diketahui sebelumnya oleh wartawan sebagai hal yang tidak sesuai dengan fakta yang terjadi.
b. Fitnah berarti tuduhan tanpa dasar yang dilakukan secara sengaja dengan niat buruk.
c. Sadis berarti kejam dan tidak mengenal belas kasihan.
d. Cabul berarti penggambaran tingkah laku secara erotis dengan foto, gambar, suara, grafis atau tulisan yang semata-mata untuk membangkitkan nafsu birahi.
e. Dalam penyiaran gambar dan suara dari arsip, wartawan mencantumkan waktu pengambilan gambar dan suara.

Pasal 5
Wartawan Indonesia tidak menyebutkan dan menyiarkan identitas korban kejahatan susila dan tidak menyebutkan identitas anak yang menjadi pelaku kejahatan.

a. Identitas adalah semua data dan informasi yang menyangkut diri seseorang yang memudahkan orang lain untuk melacak.
b. Anak adalah seorang yang berusia kurang dari 16 tahun dan belum menikah.

Pasal 6
Wartawan Indonesia tidak menyalahgunakan profesi dan tidak menerima suap.

Penafsiran
a. Menyalahgunakan profesi adalah segala tindakan yang mengambil keuntungan pribadi atas informasi yang diperoleh saat bertugas sebelum informasi tersebut menjadi pengetahuan umum.
b. Suap adalah segala pemberian dalam bentuk uang, benda atau fasilitas dari pihak lain yang mempengaruhi independensi.

Pasal 7
Wartawan Indonesia memiliki hak tolak untuk melindungi narasumber yang tidak bersedia diketahui identitas maupun keberadaannya, menghargai ketentuan embargo, informasi latar belakang, dan “off the record” sesuai dengan kesepakatan.

Penafsiran
a. Hak tolak adalak hak untuk tidak mengungkapkan identitas dan keberadaan narasumber demi keamanan narasumber dan keluarganya.
b. Embargo adalah penundaan pemuatan atau penyiaran berita sesuai dengan permintaan narasumber.
c. Informasi latar belakang adalah segala informasi atau data dari narasumber yang disiarkan atau diberitakan tanpa menyebutkan narasumbernya.
d. “Off the record” adalah segala informasi atau data dari narasumber yang tidak boleh disiarkan atau diberitakan.

Pasal 8
Wartawan Indonesia tidak menulis atau menyiarkan berita berdasarkan prasangka atau diskriminasi terhadap seseorang atas dasar perbedaan suku, ras, warna kulit, agama, jenis kelamin, dan bahasa serta tidak merendahkan martabat orang lemah, miskin, sakit, cacat jiwa atau cacat jasmani.

a. Prasangka adalah anggapan yang kurang baik mengenai sesuatu sebelum mengetahui secara jelas.
b. Diskriminasi adalah pembedaan perlakuan.

Pasal 9
Wartawan Indonesia menghormati hak narasumber tentang kehidupan pribadinya, kecuali untuk kepentingan publik.

Penafsiran
a. Menghormati hak narasumber adalah sikap menahan diri dan berhati-hati.
b. Kehidupan pribadi adalah segala segi kehidupan seseorang dan keluarganya selain yang terkait dengan kepentingan publik.

Pasal 10
Wartawan Indonesia segera mencabut, meralat, dan memperbaiki berita yang keliru dan tidak akurat disertai dengan permintaan maaf kepada pembaca, pendengar, dan atau pemirsa.

Penafsiran
a. Segera berarti tindakan dalam waktu secepat mungkin, baik karena ada maupun tidak ada teguran dari pihak luar.
b. Permintaan maaf disampaikan apabila kesalahan terkait dengan substansi pokok.

Pasal 11
Wartawan Indonesia melayani hak jawab dan hak koreksi secara proporsional.

Penafsiran
a. Hak jawab adalah hak seseorang atau sekelompok orang untuk memberikan tanggapan atau sanggahan terhadap pemberitaan berupa fakta yang merugikan nama baiknya.
b. Hak koreksi adalah hak setiap orang untuk membetulkan kekeliruan informasi yang diberitakan oleh pers, baik tentang dirinya maupun tentang orang lain.
c. Proporsional berarti setara dengan bagian berita yang perlu diperbaiki.

Global. Tidak detail, tidak rumit. Angka-angka dibulatkan, fakta-fakta diringkaskan.

KISS - Keep It Simple and Short. Hemat kata, tidak mengumbar kata. Menggunakan kalimat-kalimat pendek dan tidak rumit. Gunakan sesedikit mungkin kata sifat dan anak kalimat (adjectives).

WTYT - Write The Way You Talk. Tuliskan sebagaimana diucapkan. Menulis untuk “disuarakan”, bukan untuk dibaca.

Spoken Words. Pilih kata-kata yang biasa diucapkan sehari-hari (spoken words), e.g. jam empat sore (16.00 WIB), 15-ribu rupiah (Rp 15.000), dll.

Sign-Posting. Sebutkan jabatan, gelar, atau keterangan sebelum nama orang. Atribusi/predikat selalu mendahului nama, e.g. Ketua DPR –Agung Laksono— mengatakan…

Stay away from quotes. Jangan gunakan kutipan langsung. Ubah kalimat langsung menjadi kalimat tidak langsung, e.g. Ia mengatakan siap memimpin demo (”Saya siap memimpin demo,” katanya).

Avoid abbreviation. Hindari singkatan atau akronim, tanpa menjelaskan kepanjangannya lebih dulu, e.g. Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Universitas Islam Negeri –BEM UIN—Bandung menggelar… (Ketua BEM UIN Bandung –Fulan—mengatakan…).

Subtle repetition. Ulangi secara halus fakta-fakta penting seperti pelaku atau nama untuk memudahkan pendengar memahami dan mengikuti alur cerita, e.g. Presiden Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono mengatakan… Menurut Presiden…. Kepala Negara juga menegaskan….

Angka ratusan, ribuan, jutaan, dan milyaran, sebaiknya jangan gunakan nol, tapi ditulis: lima ratus, depalan ribu, 15-juta, 145-milyar.

Mata uang. Ditulis pengucapannya di belakang angka, e.g. 600-ribu rupiah (Rp 600.000), 500-ribu dolar Amerika Serikat (US$ 50.000)

Voicer – Laporan Reporter. Terdiri dari pengantar (cue) penyiar di studio dan laporan reporter di tempat kejadian, termasuk sound bite dan/atau live interview.

Paket. Panjangnya 2-8 menit. Isinya paduan naskah berita, petikan wawancara (soundbite).

Feature. Durasi 10-30 menit. Paduan antara berita, wawancara, ulasan redaksi, musik pendukung, dan rekaman suasana (wildtracking). Membahas tema tertentu yang mengandung unsur human interest. Bisa pula berupa dokumenter (documentary).

Vox Pop. Singkatan dari vox populi (suara rakyat). Berisi rekaman suara opini masyarakat awam tentang suatu masalah atau peristiwa.

A wonderful post was written by Emile Bosch about the power behind SharePoint Designer and the lack of developers using it to it's full potential.

It is my highest recommendation that if you are a SharePoint Developer, Analyst, or Consultant that you fully investigate SharePoint Designer and what is available out of the box for SharePoint. One of the biggest wastes around SharePoint is the duplication of effort. Someone doesn't know enough about the out of the box components and features (partly Microsoft's fault for not evangelising this) and recreates SharePoint functionality.

Don't think it's just SharePoint Designer either, make sure you understand the API of SharePoint well before developing something, because odds are it might already exist, or at least an existing object or class can give you a boost and reduce your development effort.

How don't I get word out about my shop?! I do a little of everything. Word of mouth, advertising on other sites and in print, business cards. I recently had a tutorial published in a national magazine. Plus, I tell everyone I can about Jewel Street Designs.

What's your creative process?
Hmmm. That's a good one. Sometimes I dream an idea, sometimes I take pictures of things I like the shape of, like plants. I watch old movies too to get ideas for Art Deco pieces. Architecture is a big idea maker as well.

Alhamdulillah. Selasa (22/7) kemarin, adalah hari yang sangat patut disyukuri karena SD Al Hikmah menyambut kepulangan Alif Akbar Putra Barata (kelas 6B) dari mengikuti International Mathematics Contest 2008 di Singapura. Bukan hanya menjadi peserta, pemenang Juara 1 Olimpiade Matematika Tingkat Nasional 2008 akhir Juli lalu ini juga menggondol prestasi yang membanggakan. Alif menyabet medali perak.

Berita kemenangan Alif meraih medali perak di International Mathematics Contest 2008 di Singapura tentu sangat membanggakan keluarga besar Sekolah Al Hikmah. Apalagi, Alif berhasil mengalahkan sekitar 350 peserta dari banyak negara seperti Hongkong, India, Pilipina, Thailand, China dan juga Singapura.

Melihat keberhasilan Alif di kancah olimpiade sains tingkat internasional, seperti membuka harapan baru bagi segenap keluarga besar Al Hikmah. Suatu bukti bahwa ternyata siswa Al Hikmah mampu bersaing dengan negara-negara lain, bahkan negara-negara yang sudah maju. Semua ini tentu saja tak lepas berkat dukungan yang penuh dari pihak sekolah, salah satunya menjalin kerjasama dengan Klinik Pendidikan MIPA pimpinan Ir. R. Hasan Saputra di Bogor.

Ada yang unik sekaligus menarik dibalik pengalaman Alif selama di Singapura, yang sempat diungkapkan oleh Ibu Itok (ibunda Alif).

Berhubung mepetnya persiapan berangkat ke Singapura, jadinya Alif hanya sempat fokus pada persiapan materi soal olimpiade dan keperluan lomba. Makanya ketika sampai pada acara tukar menukar souvenir antar peserta, Alif sempat termangu karena praktis, dia tidak sempat menyiapkan apapun yang bisa dijadikan souvenir bagi rekan peserta dari negara lain.

Dari rekan-rekannya sekamar, yaitu peserta dari Thailand, Singapura dan Philipina, Alif mendapatkan berbagai macam souvenir yang unik, dan bagus-bagus khas negara mereka masing-masing. Sekarang masalahnya, Alif tidak sempat menyiapkan apapun yang bisa ditukarkan dengan souvenir mereka itu. Jangankan 'sesuatu yang bagus dan khas Indonesia', sekedar 'sesuatu' pun tidak sempat disiapkan!

Tidak kurang akal, akhirnya Alif pun memberikan uang rupiah sebagai souvenir, masing-masing selembar kepada rekan-rekannya dari luar negeri tadi. Sepulangnya di Surabaya, cerita ini tentu saja mengundang geli orangtuanya. Apalagi ketika dia ditanya berapa jumlah uang yang dia berikan sebagai souvenir, jawabannya adalah “uang seribuan”.

Dan kenapa seribuan? Jawab Alif ternyata sederhana saja, “Karena uang seribuan akan terus menjadi barang kenang-kenangan, kan tidak mungkin dibelanjakan (karena terlalu kecil)??”.

Home Away From Home

Ah, Bandra. Our lovely suburb and the place we've always called home. But look around the suburb these days and you'll realise that a lot of expatriates have also made Bandra their home. We asked a few why they chose Bandra.

Matthew Daniels, originally from Michigan, has been living in Bandra for 3 years. He says, "Bandra is very accepting place. I went all around Mumbai looking for a place but Bandra was the only place that accepted me – a foreigner and a bachelor."

So what does Bandra have that other suburbs don’t? Capoeira teacher Nina Stone (born in England and brought up in the US) says, "Bandra is a great place; everything you want is so close by." Matthew adds, "To be so close to the sea is a plus point, not to mention the cosmopolitan lifestyle and great mix of old and new world houses with a lot of heritage."

Apart from these it is also Bandra great nightlife that attracts expats. Mathew says, "My favorite places to hang out would be Zenzi and Toto’s." Talese Amer, who’s originally from London and has been in Bandra for over 2 years, seconds that. He says, "Everyone I know meets at Zenzi - it’s Bandra’s hotspot."

And what makes Bandra unique? Nina says, "Everyone you meet in Bandra is into one art form or another - everyone here is just so creative." Amer adds, "What I like most about Bandra is the people and the abundance of trees, which reminds me of the suburbs in London." Mathew adds, "The culture here is really reminiscent of life in New York. If I do leave Bandra the thing I’d miss most are its energy and edge."

Drought's End: Part 2

Mid to late August usually marks the end of the summer gaming drought as we enter a packed release schedule that runs right up until the New Year. Here's part 2 of our showcase of games that you'll want to play this Autumn.

Spore (Release: 8/09 )

You can't but help be caught up by the excitement around Spore. Sure it looks cutesy, with an aesthetic that might mark it out unjustly as something for the kids. But for anyone who's sat down with the freely available Creature Creator portion of the game, the appeal is immediate and engrossing. Create your own unique creature and customise it to extremes, then watch as the game skillfully animates your concocted monstrosity and fashions adorable baby versions to accompany it. The game is touted somewhat glibly as "Sim Everything". Take your lifeform from primordial bacteria and evolve it into a globe spanning civilisation. And then take it to the stars, into a galaxy of creatures populated by the imaginings of other players, uploaded to the global Sporepedia. It all sounds so... big. The scale and scope of Spore could turn out to be astonishing. Let's just hope the "game" portion is up to scratch.

Fallout 3 (Release: 3/10 )

It's Fallout-bloody-3, the next big RPG from the boys who made Oblivion. Roam free around post-nuclear apocalypse Washington, engage all manner of nasty mutants and bandits, work with or against a number of different factions, explore the wasteland to your heart's content, get a dog, oh yeah, and Liam Neeson is your father. What more needs to be said?

Red Alert 3 (Release: 28/10 )

This one could go either way. While its great to see RA making a comeback after all these years, we still know very little about the game. The gameplay trailers floating around seem carefully planned and scripted and no one has had any hands-on time with the game yet. I've just had an email from EA telling me that I have my place in the open multiplayer beta that begins in the next few months, so we'll know soon enough how things are shaping up. Biggest hang up for me so far? All the unit barks seem lifted from RA2. Verbatim. That may sound petty, but it screams of corner-cutting to me. Of course, that'll probably be fixed somewhere down the line. Frank Klepacki (C&C music maestro of Westwood yore) has been signed up to redo the Hell March tune again, and maybe some other audio work too.

Dead Space (Release: 31/10 )

Survival horror? That's a genre the Resident Evil games ran into the ground right? Survival horror in space? Well, you might just be onto something there. To be fair, Dead Space is looking pretty spiffy and, more importantly, rather scary to boot. You'll play Isaac (Hayes?), a lone engineer trapped on a giant space ship whose crew seemed to have turned into...well, something. Something evil obviously. Interesting features abound - the devs are touting "strategic dismemberment", where it's often better to blow limbs off of your hideous enemies to slow them down rather than aim for something trivial like the head. The first-person HUD looks to be minimal, projected into the world holographically by the suit of armour you wear. And it all looks rather horrifying - some of the trailers show space nasties tearing fragile Isaac's soft man flesh to tiny bits. Aces.

AMNESIA

Saya sedang membaca National Geographic Indonesia terbitan November setahun yang lalu, ketika sebuah tulisan karya Joshua Foer memesona dunia pikiran saya dengan penggambaran tentang amnesia anterograde (tidak dapat membentuk ingatan baru) – retrograde (tidak dapat mengingat kejadian lama) yang di"derita" oleh seorang individu.

Ia tidak ingat bahwa ia memiliki masalah ingatan

Ia lupa bahwa ia selalu lupa

Setiap pikiran yang hilang tampak seperti hanya kebetulan keliru

Menjengkelkan dan tidak lebih

Ia hidup dalam kerangka waktu yang terbatas di saat ini

Pada suatu pagi yang biasa ia bangun, sarapan, dan kembali ke ranjang untuk mendengarkan radio.

Saat kembali ke ranjang, tidak selalu jelas apakah ia baru saja makan pagi atau baru saja bangun.

Seringkali ia akan makan pagi lagi dan kembali ke ranjang untuk mendengarkan radio lagi.

Bahkan pada beberapa pagi ia akan sarapan tiga kali...

Tanpa ingatan, ia telah sepenuhnya terjatuh keluar dari waktu.

SharePoint Content Query WebPart (Customizable, Powerful, and Invaluable to ANYONE who uses SharePoint)

Out of the box SharePoint provides ANYONE with almost everything you could possibly need to present SharePoint data (list items, documents, you name it..) onto a webpage. Whether you have an intranet, extranet, and/or internet SharePoint deployment one of the single most important webparts will be the SharePoint Content Query WebPart.

Not sure what it is? Basically (very generalized description) it allows you to roll up SharePoint data into a customizable presentation. Read more here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointdesigner/HA101741341033.aspx

What this really means is two things:

You can roll up pretty much any kind of "query" you can think of for SharePoint data. I could roll up all the policy documents throughout the entire site collection into one page for everyone to see, or maybe roll up the latest 5 news articles and present them to the viewer.
You can CUSTOMIZE the look and feel VERY easily. This can allow some normal list data that looks like a listing of information to be INTERACTIVE for a user, or to look and feel exactly how you want it to!

The second point there is extremely important for those who are using it for internet sites. Want your news articles to roll up on your homepage and show just a thumbnail, title and description? Easy as pie! What if those news articles are all over the site, and are made by many different kinds of users? As long as you structured the data (used content types or something) you can just "Query" it with the content query webpart and voila it will appear.

Now for the part many people miss: But it doesn't look the way I want it to, and all the options still don't make it look the way I want.

No problem! If you have anyone who can do basic HTML you should be able to pull it off. (XSL skills are probably a good thing for anything more advanced than minor changes.)

But as always I will try and provide my own little example to help anyone who hasn't caught on yet.

Add a content query webpart to a page.
Here is what mine looked like:
Take a look at the drop down for item style, what I am going to take you through is how to make your own new item style, completely customizing the LOOK and FEEL for how my data items are displayed.
Navigate to the site collection root and visit the StyleLibrary. Within this library is a folder called XSL Style Sheets. We are going to modify one of the files in here called ItemStyle.
You can modify it in notepad, or in visual studio or some other XML/XSL editor. For this demo I will be using visual studio.
Either write your own new template using the others as a guide OR copy one of them as a starting point. In this case we will just copy the "TitleOnly" template and paste it below.Notice that we change the NAME and MATCH of the template we copied. This is what it will show up in the drop down as, and how it will associate the styles and xsl you adjust in the actual content query webpart.
Add some HTML or adjust the XSL as desired. In this sample I just added an image that will appear to the left of each title.
Save and check the XSL change in.
Open the content query webpart you added in step 1 and cause the item style drop down to display.

You will notice our new template shows up.
Click OK or Apply and VOILA - Customized Presentation (in my case an image of myself showing to the left of each item. Narcissistic I know.)

I hope you all see the power of this WebPart and use it to save you tons of time and effort,
