This is off topic.

For those who know much about Middle Tennessee State University football the phrase Miracle in Murfreesboro has a bitter memory. This is what Troy calls the game in 2006 in which they scored two touchdowns in two minutes to come from behind and win the game and take the New Orleans Bowl away from the Raiders. Now we got our Miracle in Murfreesboro on a night that we had the first nationally broadcasted home game from Floyd Stadium on ESPN 2. The game was probably one of the worst games I have ever watched but the last 5:22 of the game was worth it. We were down 10-0 and with 5:22 left in the game we scored a touchdown to bring the score to 10-7. Then FAU was only able to get a field goal in, which brought the score to 13-7 with 1:15 left in the game. Most people would just say that the game was over...but anyone that has been to most MTSU games would know that the game is never over till the time has run out. They made a good play to gain some more yards and then they had a couple of bad plays. It was 9 seconds and Craddock threw a hail mary to the endzone. Malcolm Beyah jumped up into the air and caught the ball and scored the game tying touchdown. I wasn't exactly sure he caught it, I had to wait to see it from the officals because from up in the press box, where I was, all I had saw during the catch was a lot of white jerseys. When the officals gave the signal, I was so excited. But then as FAU kept calling timeouts and trying to freeze our freshman kicker Alan Gendreau out, I began to get a little nervous. I really didn't want to go to overtime. Finally Gendreau was able to kick the extra point and we won the game. I was so excited. After we got all our work done in the press box some of us stayed to watch Sports Center and got to see the clip. The next day I saw the clip on ESPN and ESPN 2 atleast 5 times. I think the best part was that they never talked about how horrible we had played that game. For once we were getting some positive media coverage. And it was nice to have them point out, that we were the only team to have beat Maryland at that point. Future tip to anyone going to be at a MTSU game never leave till it's over.

I didn’t go to a “name” college, a term I use for institutions of higher learning

I didn't go to a "name" college, a term I use for institutions of higher learning that can charge insane sums of money for education, requiring either that parents or their progeny go very deeply into debt so the president can drive a Mercedes.

No, I went to a community college, and then a university that is little known not only outside Florida, but within it as well. It has the usual assortment of sports teams, and several years ago it even acquired a football team, but on Thanksgiving or New Year's Day, you won't see it in the bowl games.

The college is called Florida Atlantic University, and its main campus is in Boca Raton, Fla. It has other campuses on the east coast, but my main experience was with the main place in Boca Raton.

During World War II, the site was part of an Army Air Forces training field, and on some of the streets you can see the old, faded markings of the field. The oldest dorms (mostly gone now, and not lamented) were once enlisted barracks. The college is next to Boca Raton Airport, where the corporate jets of the rich and well-connected plant rubber on its single runway.

Unlike the University of Florida and Florida State University, Florida Atlantic University, known as FAU, lacks the sense of history other college have. Indeed, FAU was often derided as a "commuter college," where that breed known as "commuter students" drove on campus before or after their full-time jobs, took courses, maybe even graduated, and moved on in their lives and careers. Even when I was there, in the early to mid-1990s, the "traditional-age" students were chafing at the presence of so many "older" (read: mid-20s and up) students on campus and in classrooms.

"These are supposed to be the best years of my life, and I don't want to spend them surrounded by old people," one student complained to me one day during a debate over the presence of the Lifelong Learning Society in the Student Center. Retired folks from the community came on the campus for lectures by professors, and some students resented what they saw as the intrusion.

"They don't belong here!" one student declared. "They should go back to Century Village, where they belong, instead of ruining my life."

Maybe it was the reminder of their inevitable fate. Me, I liked having diversity on campus in terms of age, and the professors liked it, too.

One professor said he liked that the students from my generation showed up at class on time, ready to learn and eager to participate. When he talked, we stopped talking while a few of the just-out-of-high school students continued a low murmur of conversation in the lecture hall.

Like I said, FAU was not famous, and it was not an old college compared to many others. Its first buildings opened in 1964, and one of those at the opening was Lady Bird Johnson. One time, going through an old desk, I found a letter from her to a school official. That was a thrill.

In fact, walking around FAU you could tell which buildings were the original ones because they were paneled on the outside with shells embedded in concrete. Those old buildings, though, were falling apart by the mid- to late-1990s due to poor maintenance. People like to give money to colleges for new buildings, not to maintain old buildings.

Years of outsourcing of maintenance showed in buildings that leaked in the rain.

Still, I learned much in my time there. I had to drive 20 miles out of my way, but managed to finish the two-year bachelor's degree course in three years, then stayed for a little graduate study, but then decided I really needed to work.

FAU's symbol was the Owl, and while it lacked the cachet of the Gators or the Seminoles, I always believed that it symbolized something beyond cheering a football team or drinking oneself into insensibility and calling it a college memory. Owls are wise, and the commuter students of FAU may not have pledged Greek fraternities or burned down the administration building to protest some offense against a race or creed, but we went out into the community with our degrees and had an impact.

I suppose it's the difference in experiences. Students just out of high school are just being let out from their parents' supervision, and are dealing with freedom for the first time, while commuter students are beyond that first experience of freedom. For the commuter, college is a way to find oneself and find one's way, but not through drinking and group activities but through learning.

My fellow commuter students and I found ourselves viewed differently by not only the younger students, but also the administration. Our presence seemed to be a sign that this was not a typical university and some found that degrading to their college experience.

I discovered so much at FAU and always feel grateful to the college and its professors for helping me to learn; the skills I acquired there, the people I met, the experiences I had have been relevant to me every day of my life.

Going to college in my late 20s and early 30s helped me appreciate the privilege more. Not bankrupting myself or my parents to get that education was a bonus that has repaid itself many times over.

So when someone derides your education because it was not from a "name" college, just remember that your learning and erudition are what counts, not the label.

Despite not being able to carry my super awesome Canon 5D camera into DKR, I nabbed some interesting shots with my girlfriend's camera phone from the University of Texas vs. Florida Atlantic University game.

Internet, peer out your windows, it’s a beautiful labor day.

And thank god for labor day. It’s a wonderful day in which we can rest, wash off all that excess body paint still stuck in explicit places, and do something nice for your wife or girlfriend, since you have neglected her all weekend. Most importantly of all, it’s a day in which every college football fan across the nation can reflect on their teams performance. If you’re a fan of the ACC, you may still be laying in bed, wallowing in your sorrows. If you’re a fan of the SEC, you too may still be laying in bed, wallowing In your post-celebration hangover. And if you are one of those “fans” that happened to just catch the highlights of your “team” on sports center because you were “too busy” doing something else this weekend, then please, get off my website. For the rest of you real men and women on my site, here are Tgemayel’s weekend quick hits

The real story this weekend is the upset of the Alabama Clemson game. Internet, I don’t know how this happened. Ispent the majority of my Friday night talking crap to Alabama fans only to see what was an embarrassing performance by the Tigers. Incredibly embarrassing. Internet, I wont lie, I feel a bit stupid. I ranked the Clemson running back tandem of James Davis and C.J. Spiller as the best in the country (oh geez) and they had a total of 20 yards (and please dont get me started on why they only had a combined 8 carries) The rest of the team was sluggish on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Cullen Harper and his offense went no where, and the #9 Clemson Tigers just fell apart. Internet, I guess we just have to give this one to Alabama fans. Congratulations Tide fans, roll on. I guess you could be excited. Nick Saban looks like he pulled in an excellent recruiting class. But the same Nick Saban question applies. Can he finish? does he ever finish anything? I would answer no. (check the Miami Dolphins)

•    Engenheiro;
•    Profissionais da construção civil;
•    Designers;
• Decoradores.

Biden ran errands, including a visit to the dentist, but didn't speak to the media as he came and went..."

And I'll throw this one in there too:

From the New York Times Op-Ed Page

This is really worth reading! It lists very good reasons why Biden is the best VP choice for Obama.

P.S., today I went to the Obama for President rally at Florida Atlantic University featuring Sen. Hillary Clinton. Pictures will be posted as soon as I can get them off my camera (which will probably be Monday night). If I learned anything, it's that there are still plenty of people (i.e. PUMA) trying to make sure that there isn't party unity unless HRC is the presidential candidate...

Gonna need that to stop right now, people... mmkay?

Hello Internet, Its that beautiful time of year again. A time where girlfriends are neglected, hot dogs and beer are purchased in bulk quantities, and only one thing matters; football. And with kickoff in the sunshine state right around the corner i thought i would release my own style of the AP poll. So here you are you crazed, body painted sports fanatics, Tgemayel's AP Poll

Florida AP poll

1 The undisputed leader this year is The University Of Florida. Even with the loss of star tight end Cornelius Ingram, The Gators return Heisman winner Tim Tebow, speedster Percy Harvin, running back Chris Raineyand pulled in another star studded recruiting class. However look for a weak defensive secondary and an unproven recievers group to hinder the Gators run at a national title. Look for them to finish 6th in the AP poll and make a BCS bowl game.

2 Claiming the silver in the sunshine state is the University Of South Florida. The bulls are returning all of their major offensive players, including their star quarterback Matt Groethe and running back Mike Ford.Theyre defensive front looks to be stellar, returning USF's first All-American, defensive end George Selvie.Theyre defensive secondary looks to be the weakness of the team with the losses of Mike Jenkins and TraeWillaims, who left for the NFL. Look for the Bulls to finish 17th in the AP Poll and make a bowl game.

3 Coming in third place is The University Of Miami. The Canes have fallen out of prominence since leaving the Big East but coach Randy Shannon seems to restoring them to their once glorious state. Coach Shannon has recruited one of the best classes, if not the best, in the nation. Quarterbacks Robert Marve, Jacory Harris, and Cannon Smith will all be fighting to give the Canes their first stable quarterback since Ken Dorsey. If a stable quarterback can be found, the Canes maybe able to pull away with an 8 win season. Look for Graig Cooper and Javarris James to carry the majority of the offensive workload. On defense look for Miami Northwestern standouts Marcus Forston and Sean Space to displays bright spots of the brilliance to come.

4 Florida State University lost the close race for third place. The Seminoles also pulled an in excellent recruiting class as well, but have had trouble keeping key prospects out of trouble ( google Fred Rouse, Randy Moss, Preston Parker ). Seminoles fans should go into this season looking for two things. The first being is E.J. Manuel capable of leading this once power house program back to a national contender? The second is who is going to die first? Bobby Bowden or Joepa? Because it seems they are going to fight it out till the death. Look for the Seminoles to post an 8 win season, but lose to the Canes in Miami.

5 Last on my list is Florida Atlantic University. In 2007, FAU posted its best season in school history, winning It's first ever conference title and finishing its season with its first ever bowl victory. While the owls are a relatively new program ( just ten years old ) it is only a matter of time before they develop into a great program. With the excellent talent pool and great coaching staff, look for FAU to repeat its success of last season.

Aufgerufen hatten die Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) im deutschsprachigen Raum.

Karl was visiting Miami this weekend. We took him to an NBA game, an NCAA scrimmage game, and the fucking Waffle House...he's practically an American now.

Billy and I met Alain Friday at the Heat game. Karl met us there later. We caught most of the 4th quarter. Just to recap: Alain recently moved to Miami from Haiti; Karl lives in Jamaica and was visiting for the weekend.

Oh, Pat Riley.

We left and went out.

Saturday we drove to Boca Raton to see FAU's scrimmage game and watch Coach Schnellenberger do his thing.

Ha. Billy and I saw FAU play the Gators in Gainesville in November.

FAU sucks.

...but Schnellenberger is the man.

Billy and I decided to take Karl to the Waffle House, an American institution.

I got a salad. Yeah, Waffle House has salads. I wouldn't recommend them.

Saturday night, we went to Fox's with Kei. She was sleepy. Or roofied.

Billy, Karl, and I went to a karaoke dive bar.
