What ever will they talk about?

Actually, there's an easy answer for that: gay marriage.

Wentz's band, Fall Out Boy, and Babs are just two of the boldfaced names expected at a Vote No on Prop 8 fundraiser Oct. 21 in Beverly Hills.

For those who haven't heard, Proposition 8 is a November ballot initiative that seeks to overturn California's legalization of gay marriage.

I love this damn movie. And not recently. I loved it when it was in theaters and I was but a wee child. I was spooky from a young age.

I'll give you a quick rundown.

Overture(DeVotchKa)

Pretty straight-faced playthrough, nothing too wild or out there. I didn't get the feel for the cover artist, just more Nightmare stuff. Still, not bad. Listenable.

Opening (Danny Elfman)

Not technically revisiting, is it? This is all ground he's ploughed before. Cheating. Let's move on.

This Is Halloween (Marylin Manson)

This is an old cover. If you haven't heard it by now, you lose at the internet. Still, it's solid. Say what you will about Marylin Manson, he knows what songs to cover. Another solid version of this is offered up by Panic at the Disco.

Jack's Lament (All American Rejects)

Now, understand, this is my favorite song of the movie. I absolutely adore it. So when I hear that whiny voice streak through my eardrum, I wail inside. I got 20 seconds into this song before I had to turn it off, and only 4 seconds of that was comprised of vocals. Next.

Docter Finkelstein/In the Forest (Amina)

Thus far, the instrumentals are two-for-two on being good, and this one takes a step outside of what Nightmare originally laid out for it. I think this one's quite well done. Loving the theramin.

What's This? (Flyleaf)

Ugh. So, instrumentals are winning, but vocal bits are just... not clearing it. Her vocals are not quite emotive enough to handle the wonder that is supposed to be coursing through this song. She sings "What's this?" but it sounds like she really couldn't care less about what anything is.

I never in my life thought I'd write these words, but Fallout Boy did it better. You have failed. Next.

Town Meeting Song (The Polphonic Spree)

Let me just get this out of the way: I love The Polyphonic Spree. And their absolutely inspired cover of Nirvana's Lithium made me very curious to hear this. I'm really enjoying this one. It's not what I expected, but it's doing it's thing and taking me along with it. Best of the vocal songs so far. My only real complaint is that it needs to pick up the pace.

Jack and Sally Montage (The Vitamin String Quartet)

Another instrumental. Rather meh. Doesn't entice, doesn't push away. It's just there, four people on string instruments playing some music that stays just this side of spooky.

Jack's Obsession (Sparklehorse)

I didn't know you could ruin this song this badly. After all, it's a bit more obscure, and doesn't draw as much love or notice as the others. I thought this would slip under the radar of suck. I was wrong.

Kidnap the Sandy Claws (Korn)

It's Korn. I don't think I have to say any more. I started laughing at this cover not ten seconds in. I'd much rather be listening to She Wants Revenge, and even I'm able to recognize that SWR didn't do that amazing of a cover.

Making Christmas (Rise Against)

Not horrible, but the vocals just do not work for this song.

I've started down this dark path, and I will finish. Not rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail will stop me from this crap. But good God, what have I condemned myself to?

Nabbed (Yoshida Brothers)

More instrumental. More delicious things-not-sucking. Seriously, I could take half those singers to school on how you do these songs, and I'm barely passable. This track is great, really divergent from the original, displaying the Yoshida Brothers for what they are, but still keeps that kick of what the song once was.

Oogie Boogie's Song (Rodrigo y Gabriela)

So, wow. First, whatever made Disney decide to pick up these two is beyond me, but for once, God bless 'em for making a good call. This was a wonderful cover, even if you don't like two guitars playing maniacally side-by-side (which really, if you don't, what's your problem?). Gabriela's standard percussion-style strumming and Rodrigo's sharp picking make for an amazing cover here.

Sally's Song (Amy Lee)

When I first saw who was singing this, I muttered "Goddamnit." She has a solid voice, but it's so typical, putting the lead singer of Evanescence on this kind of project. Still. She did a very solid job, and I really can't complain. It doesn't compete with Fiona Apple's version at all. I think the two bring their own things to the table, and shouldn't have to fight for the lead.

Christmas Eve Montage (RJD2)

Meh.

Poor Jack (Plain White T's)

First of all... what? The Hey-There-Delilah assholes covering Nightmare Before Christmas music? And... wow. This... isn't terrible. Crap. Have my standards fallen so low that this is good, or is it good on its own?

To the Rescue (Datarock)

The first few measures of standard uhn-tiss made me concerned. Largely, not bad, but not incredible. Feels like that's become the mantra of this CD (alongside "singers can't sing").

Finale/Reprise (Shiny Toy Guns)

And welcome to why I'm here. Hearing this is a terrible tease. It makes me want to hear them cover the whole album. I can only imagine how they'd kick ass at What's This, Sally's Song (though I'd wager Carah would swing it better than Sisley). Ah, well. Damn.

Closing (Danny Elfman)

End Title (The Album Leaf)

Maybe we go through a lot of suck, but this is prettymuch the best way to wrap up this CD.

In the end? I'd say don't buy it, just download the good tracks.

this is the fall out boy redo of "beat it" orginally by micheal jackson. i've got this song in my head, and i love how they themed the video with micheal's original video in mind. patrick's voice has a nice touch to this song and it works very well for this song. i think this is off their upcoming album.

Zaczynają nosić się tak jak oni - obcisłe spodenki, wielkie buciska, czarne bluzki, podkoszulki z napisami "life Sux", długie do ramion czarne włosy, często z żelem w ogromnych ilościach (sic). Zaczyna się jazda po równi pochyłej w dół samej MOE otchłani.
To jest esencja MOE, jeśli ktoś się urodzi "true MOE" i ma umiejętności MOE to jest ustawiony.

Teraz przychodzi czas na swojego MOE Blogaska - to tam gdzie młody MOE może dzielić się swymi przemyśleniami z siecią. Często zdarza się że MOE zostaje na swym blogu obrzucany wyzwiskami - ale to świetnie - to pogłębi jego bezsens i stagnacje w życiu. Świat go nie rozumie - nie rozumie go jak siedzi sam w koncie, wyzbywając się znajomości, nie rozumie go jak jest zawsze na dnie, nie rozumie że jego życie jest bez sensu, nie rozumie że on musi płakać, nie rozumie jego (uwaga) częstych prób samobójczych. Rodzina mnie nie rozumie - choć rodzice go kochają, a on jest zbyt młody by dostrzec że nie zawsze mają pieniądze by kupić mu nowe buty, spodnie, żel do jego MOE wizerunku. Konflikty są w każdej rodzinie, czasami zdarzają się kłótnie, ale MOE nawet gdyby ich nie było znalazłby najmniejsze głupie powody do stwierdzenia "Rodzina mnie nie rozumie".
Nie mam znajomych, nie mam miłości, jestem taki samotny - pozbawiając się możliwości poznania nowych ludzi, siedząc w koncie na przerwach w szkole i patrząc na swych "skrytych wybranków serca" z oddali roniąc łzy "dlaczego nie możemy być razem" młody MOE zostaje wciągnięty w błędne koło. Ktoś nawet pomimo próby zapoznania się z nim, zaprzyjaźnienia, może nawet chęci spotkania na osobności spotka się z wyrażeniem że "przecież on nie rozumie, moje życie jest bez sensu, jestem taki samotny". Gdybyśmy żyli tak że każdy miałby kochających wspaniałych przyjaciół od urodzenia, MOE potrafiłby się odizolować i stworzyć sobie na siłę swoją samotność i brak miłości.
Moje dzieciństwo było takie straszne - aspekt "przeszłości" jest bardzo ważny dla MOE. Trzeba doszukać się czegoś w przeszłości by sprawiło smutek. Może być jakiś alkohol w rodzinie, jakaś śmierć (co się poprostu czasem zdaża), jakieś problemy w szkole, problemy na podwórku (urodzony MOE zawsze był wyśmiewany) - a naprawdę - brak zrozumienia dla prawdziwego życia i dorosłości, brak zrozumienia świata realnego, brak zrozumienia że czasem tak się w życiu zdarza, w życiu milionów ludzi. MOE jednak nadal łakną, doszukiwać się w swej przeszłości czegoś co choć zbliży ich do ich idolów (i ich wymyślonych "gwałtów w dzieciństwie") z zespołów MOE.

O MOE można pisać bez końca w sumie - to temat rzeka (co pewnie widać po długości tego posta :) - przy okazji dzięki dla wszystkich co dobrnęli do końca). Da się to krótko podsumować - "kultura" MOE to efekt uboczny muzyki nu-rockowej i nu-metalowej często zwanej "MOE Rockiem" itp. "kultura" MOE teraz utrzymuję tę muzykę przy życiu (symbioza). MOE to coś co pokazuje nam jak bardzo nastolatki i dzieciaki nie rozumieją normalnego świata i jak bardzo są niedojrzali. MOE to ucieczka przed życiem, stagnacja, znajdowanie uzasadnienia w (jakże wygodnym) trybie odludka. MOE to zaraza i choroba.

Mam tylko nadzieję że z tego stanu rzeczy można wyrosnąć, można zmądrzeć a nie poprzez tkwienie w przesłaniach "z dołka kupy" doprowadzić do autodestrukcji.

Aber vorsicht: Der Soundtrack des Spiels ist nicht gut. Musik für Mongos und Honks, sehr punkig. Aber eben punkig für jene, die unter Punk bunte Socken verstehen und nicht etwa das Aufwachen in eigener Kotze. Bis auf eine (nicht weniger unerträgliche) Band: Fallout Boy. Die ham' Credibility, weil einer aus der Band bei  Vegan Reich war und sich für Hamster gekloppt hätte. Und Wolfmother sind auch erträglich, wenn auch arg offensichtlich.

Der Soundtrack ist also was für junge Leute.

Metal Church - Highway Star

Hawkwind - Silver Machine

1. Godhead - Eleanor Rigby - Covering the Beatles is a very risky decision. Godhead is not the greatest metal band in the world, but this is definitly a cool take on a classic song.

2. Chastain - Black Knight - I doubt you've heard of this band, I hadn't until a couple weeks ago when I read about them in Guitar World magazine. Basically, it's one of those 80's bands with a virtuoso guitarist. They actually had a female singer too. This has a cool riff and the guitar solos are sick.

3. Flight of the Conchords - Hiphopopotomus vs Rhymenoceros - If you haven't heard of this 2-man comic group, try catchin their show on cable or YouTube some videos. They are hilarious and the songs are actually pretty good. They are like the New Zealand version of Tenacious D, less metal...more dry humor.

4. Brian 'Head' Welch - Flush - This is the first single from the former Korn guitarist. If you hadn't heard, he quit drugs, Korn, and found God. Honestly, this song annoyed me when I first heard it, but it's grown on me. You can definitly tell he was the best musician in Korn.

5. Breaking Benjamin - Natural Life - Its not like I just recently 'found' this song, but I did get reaquainted with it this week. It qualifies as having a sweet intro. I love that simple-but-heavy riff.

6. Blue October - What if We Could - This is a great song. One of my favorites off their "Foiled" album. I'm actually suprised it wasn't released as a single. It starts off very calm, and then escalates to an angst filled bridge.

7. Fallout Boy - Beat It - Yeah, they covered Michael Jackson. And, John Mayer joined them to do it. It's not terrible. It was a catchy song when MJ did it, and its a catchy song still.

8. Lamb of God - Hourglass - This song has stepped up as my new favorite Lamb of God song, and favorite song to listen to while working out. I think I'm pretty much set that this is the perfect metal band. Their drummer is amazing, their guitars rock, the vocals are top-notch, and try to find holes in the bass playing.

9. 3 Doors Down - It's Not My Time - It's not like they are the greatest band ever, but they write some cool songs. This new song ranks right up there with 'Kryptonite', 'Here Without You', and 'Behind Those Eyes'. So, of course it'll get a ton of radio play.

10. Serj Tankian - Sky is Over - Since I can't bring myself to listen to "Scars on Broadway", I'll have to stick with Serj to get my System of a Down fix. I've actually been listening to the acoustic version of Sky is Over, but there's not actually any acoustic guitars. It's just piano and vocals.

Alright, I’m back in the mix after a little vacation. Had a short week to work with, but I think I’ve got some good stuff. Let me know what you think…

Good thing of the week: Dr. Pepper

I don’t know if its just me, but Dr. Pepper has been supporting music a lot these days. I mean, yeah…Pepsi has its thing, but I’m really opening my eyes to the new ideas that Dr. Pepper has been trying. It gives them excellent promotion, but it also helps to give musicians promotion too.  They just finished that whole “Band in the Bubble” stunt with the band Cartel. They’ve done various ad promotions with high profile musicians. And now, they’ve really done it. I read a headline today…it went something like this - “Dr Pepper Will Give Everyone* in America a Free Soda If Axl Rose Releases New Guns N’ Roses Album, Chinese Democracy, In 2008″ …now you may notice the “star” after “Everyone” it is stated that everyone in America will recieve a Dr. Pepper, EXCEPT Slash and Buckethead. I guess Dr. Pepper is pissed they quit GnR. If anyone has not heard of the legendary Chinese Democracy album, it is the album Axl has been working on for something like 17 years. Each year it is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and each year Axl holds it back. I think we were close to gettin it in 2007 - even had an approximate date. I think it is about time that something lit a fire under Rose’s @$$ to get this thing released. I’m tired of the speculation as to whether it will be the most amazing album of all time or the biggest dissapointment ever. Chinese Democracy - “Just what the Dr. ordered”

Bad thing of the week: Lack of Dead-Legends-for-our-generation

Heath Ledger died. This is widely regarded as a bad thing. But, on the other hand, now he gets to be forever a legend - right along side James Dean and Brandon Lee.  This is something few think of right when a young artist dies…he/she will now not have the opportunity to throw away their careers, sell-out, or burn-out. Think of the musicians, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison. They all died at 27 back at the end of the 60’s, they are forever regarded as some of the best musicians of their time. Bassist Cliff Burton died after a tragic bus accident, his years with Metallica are regarded as some of the best in all metal. Since his death, Metallica has been deemed sellouts. Nirvana and Sublime were good bands in the 90’s, then their front-men died - they became legendary bands. This brings me to my point. We have been seriously lacking in “Legends” for our generation. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t condone death by suicide, drug over dose, or drive-by. But I worry that music of our time will not be looked at as highly because no one has “died before their time”. Pete Wentz, of Fallout Boy, recently came out confessing his suicide attempt. I found it to be pretentious. What, are you crying out for more attention? Is Ashlee not giving you enough? You need people to feel sorry for you now? Said Wentz - “I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ and sat there and took a bunch of Ativan in a Best Buy parking lot.” First off, do you think you’re cool because you dropped Jeff Buckley’s name? Name a different song of his and I might have been impressed. “Eternal Life” - that would have been ironic. Second, you failed at suicide!! You were so close to making Fallout Boy into a legendary band, now that would be quite a feat.

Nay-sayers are claiming it is linked to poor sales of her album, 'Bittersweet World'. I think it is a mix of that and her conveniently timed pregnancy.

SIMPSON-WENTZ has also cancelled FOUR shows on her upcoming summer tour.

When asked outright, his wife was coy and changed the subject, her husband lied outright. Here's why:

"Every woman, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, has the right to wait at least 3 months before sharing this very personal news," he wrote. ASHLEE SIMPSON has decided to do the old fashion thing and travel back in time, thus not conceiving out of wedlock, takign her new husbands last name [Website - TheLostGirl’s Blog].

SIMPSON is claiming that her old fashioned moral values are prevailing, thus she feels compelled to change her legal name to WENTZ, that of her husband.

Her stage name will changeto ASHLEE SIMPSON-WENTZ.

"I think that that's something that a woman should do when they're marrying a man. It's a tradition that I think is a great tradition."

According to PETE, "These decisions with Ashlee and her name are all completely up to Ashlee. I want her to do these kinds of things the way she wants to do them."

The pair made this surprisingly intellegent announcement on RYAN SEACREST’s KIIS-FM radio show Tuesday (WENTZ gave the interview alone, claiming SIMPSON was alseep).

WENTZ also divulged that SIMPSON was acually, legally, MRS WENTZ, but he wasn't sure what his wife inteneded to do with her stage name, post wedding.

In addition, WENTZ said the pair forwent a honeymoon altogether, in favour of 'hanging out' in the basement of their L.A. home.

"We have signed a pre-nup," the newlywed rocker admitted.

He said they’re skipping out on a honeymoon (for now) and have been hanging out in their basement in L.A. “We got some blow-up palm trees,” WENTZ said. “A little fake-n-bake tanning booth. We’re eating DiGiorno’s pizza, getting in that tanning oven every once in a while, it’s great. It’s gonna look like we’re on that private jet,” he added. “We’re gonna save that 30 grand, you know?” I feel great!” he said. “It is sunny and 65 in my head.”
