Episode 3 continues the story at a pretty good clip.  While we were introduced to Anise and Jade earlier, we're leaving Anise's combat capabilities for a later introduction.  However, we do see Jade the Necromancer in action, at least for a little while, the sudden appearance of one of my favorite characters, and a bit of a cliffhanger ending.  So far, so good.

Summary:

Jade charges Tear and Luke with illegally entering the Malkuth Empire, since they used hyperresonance to shoot themselves halfway across the world.  Luke ends up introducing himself as Luke fon Fable, the same child the Malkuth military tried to kidnap years ago; Jade doesn't quite remember any operation like that, however.

Regardless, Anise and Jade are on a peacekeeping mission to Kimlasca, as the peace treaty that has been in place for 15 years is starting to fade away from memory.  Jade and Anise are sent to give a peace letter to Kimlasca superiors, and ask Luke to help them out.  Spoiled brat that he is, Luke agrees; he just has to talk to the duke, anyway.

Luke laments ever going into the Cheagle Forest, but Mieu points out they would've never met if not for his decision.  Of course, Luke isn't too thrilled about that either; Anise later shows up, wanting to show Luke the Tartarus.  However, an air force of gryphons shows up carrying a God-General and ligers, attacking the Tartarus.  The ligers make short work of Malkuth soldiers, and Largo, the Black Lion, faces off with Jade the Necromancer.

Jade can't make a move because Largo's scythe is around Luke's neck; Largo proceeds to rob him of fonic artes.  However, Large leaves his back exposed to Tear, who places him in a hold until Jade runs him through.  Luke, again being the battle novice, freaks out at the sight of blood, but gets a hold of himself in a bit.  The three go off to look for Anise and Ion.  They don't know it yet, but Anise has been flung off the ship, and Ion has been captured.

Tear and Jade continue into the Tartarus to look for Ion, leaving Luke to guard the rear.  A lone Oracle Knight attacks Luke, and in fear Luke runs him through with his sword.  This wreaks havoc on the newbie's mindset, and he breaks down mid-battle.  Asch and Ligretta show up, the latter thankfully stopping the former's orders to brutally murder everybody not named Ion.  The party finds themselves in a cell on board their own ship.

Luke is not happy about having killed someone, and wonders how Tear and Jade can do the same.  It's clear he's just a burden on the party, so Tear asks him to stay back while they operate.  Jade breaks out of the cell fairly easily, and implements "Corpse Hunt", effectively shutting down the Tartarus and trapping a whole bunch of Oracle Knights.  The team heads for the port hatch, which is the only operational door during emergency shutdown.  They plan to ambush Ligretta as she returns with Ion, who was busy using fonic artes on a door somewhere elsewhere.

The ambush works out well in the first place until Arietta, with her pet liger, ruins things.  However, Luke's party gets a welcome reinforcement in Guy, whose blade distracts Ligretta enough for Jade to get behind Arietta and force the Oracle Knights back into the Tartarus.  After sealing the door the party runs for the hills, but has to take a break because of Ion's frailty.

Guy meets the team except for Tear due to his pathological fear of women.  Not far behind, though, are the Oracle Knights, who come down on the party.  Luke again finds himself unable to draw his sword on other humans, and Tear jumps to his defense.  While Luke survives, Tear is badly wounded and lies on the ground bleeding.

Impression:

• Anise is such a fun character, I can't wait to see more of her.  Jade is also amusing in his own right.  However, having Guy appear again makes this episode all worth its while.  This episode really was for the fighting, however; there was very little plot advancement, except for a little detail about why Jade, Anise, and Ion were going to Kimlasca in the first place.
• Luke is useless, and will continue to be useless "until he cuts his hair".  Look at the OP again if you don't believe me.  So much for "damsel-in-distress".  When was the last time you heard "prince-in-distress"?  It all goes towards the audience's annoyance with Luke as he stands right now.
• The end scene is supposed to be dramatic and everything, but they animate it like it's a cut on her arm.  Not a deep one either, from the looks of it.  How she'd be on the verge of death with a little slash, I have no idea.  Probably could've done that scene a little better.
• Four of the six God-Generals in one spot, for one operation?  I guess Mohs really does care about the success of it.  Oh, I forgot to mention in the summary, but Mohs is another group in the Lorelei Order that opposes Grand Master Ion, and seeks to have the war actually happen.  It's the whole reason behind why he needs to recapture Ion.
• We see three of the God-Generals' faces.  One looks oddly familiar.  Hehe.
• Animation is as fluid as always, even with all of the action sequences going on.  No good Tear expression this episode, but that's okay, Anise is right there to pick up her slack.

Giant teddies = More action, more fun!

The best part of this first scene is watching the unflappable lawyer scuttling around his hotel room, thinking to leave a memo for Kang-hyun to read when she wakes from her drunken sleep, trying to leave the note in the most visible place so she won’t be alarmed or confused at finding herself in his hotel bed. It’s kind of one of those jokes that gets funnier the longer it goes on, with Hyun-soo shuffling around, moving furniture, thwarted every time he thinks he’s got it just right.

In the end, it doesn’t even matter. Kang-hyun is fast asleep, dreaming of happy times with Kyung-hwan, and her legs mimic the bicycling motion to correspond with her dream. Hyun-soo takes the room next door and stays up late working, but is bothered by the names she had drunkenly slurred at him (”Tattletale, two-faced, evil lawyer, womanizer”).

When he checks on Kang-hyun in the morning, she’s still “cycling” in her sleep. Her legs have gotten all tangled in the covers, so she grimaces as she tries to pedal through the tangles, and Hyun-soo gives her a helping hand — which is when she wakes up, startled to see him at the foot of her bed.

Following her immediate assumption that he’s trying to make a move, Hyun-soo gives her the explanatory memo(s), and Kang-hyun lets herself out in embarrassment. Unfortunately, she runs right back into him at the elevator.

Hyun-soo asks what she meant when she called him those names last night, and Kang-hyun hastily thinks up an excuse (since it’s rude to admit she WAS talking about him). She explains that drinking makes her badmouth her ex, to which Hyun-soo asks, “You said, ‘evil lawyer.’ Your ex-husband was a lawyer?” Kang-hyun sends him off, saying she was babbling nonsense, which is when they run into Chief Ryu (name Sung-ho) and his ex-wife.

Sung-ho and Hye-sun have obviously spent a much more pleasant night than Kang-hyun or Hyun-soo. The older couple assumes the younger couple were together romantically despite protests to the contrary, and so the foursome have a somewhat awkward breakfast together.

(Forgetting that Kang-hyun is present, Sung-ho talks of Hyun-soo’s personal life, lamenting his ill fortune — dead parents, deadbeat brother, unhappy marriage.)

Sung-ho hears of Kang-hyun’s previous job fiasco and flies into an uproar. Knowing that she was in the wrong to have hidden that from him, Kang-hyun begs for mercy, but some bad timing gets in her way. Just then, one of her clients comes in to cancel her membership in their service. Sung-ho fires her, but she convinces him to agree to let her prove herself. If she fails to prevent the client from canceling, she will leave the job.

The problem with the woman (aside from being divorced by her second husband after being caught cheating) is that she has told a little white lie about the reason for her divorce. Since the truth paints her in a bad light, she told her parents it was the hubby’s idea and they mutually filed for divorce — and her father stormed in on his workplace, humiliating him. Now the ex is suing her for defamation of character, and the woman is in no position to continue with the dating service.

Kang-hyun promises to do what she can to avert lawsuit. She will consult with their lawyer and get back to the woman, convincing her not to quit yet.

Kang-hyun takes the case to Hyun-soo, the company’s lawyer consultant, but spends most of her day waiting since he is constantly interrupted with other work. Finally, she can’t take it anymore and presents herself in his office late at night, demanding his attention. (She’s immediately mollified when she finds out he’s doing work for her firm pro bono.)

This conversation is the big weak point of the episode, although it contains some important points. After concluding that the divorcee client’s best bet for avoiding being sued is to sincerely apologize to her ex (they don’t think he’s really going to sue), she gets up to leave, and notices him reaching for a math textbook.

Hyun-soo explains that math is a hobby that helps him unwind, which she finds confusing. But he explains that in math, often problems need solving where the solution is evident. If you can’t solve the equation going forward, you can work backward from the answer (like Jeopardy!), which is an application he finds helpful in real life.

She notes, “This is the first time you’ve made a lengthy answer. Usually, you only speak what’s necessary.” He’s a little taken aback at that observation, and she adds that it must be because he likes the subject.

Kang-hyun then displays a little of what I like to think of as a uniquely female brand of, erm, money management: She looks at the clock and sees an hour has passed, and crows, “Yes! I made $300.” He asks what she means, and she answers that she’s used an hour of his time (he charges $150 per half-hour). His services are free to her; therefore she’s made $300. Keke. (I’ve also used this logic on occasion. It’s… not the most sound financial tactic.)

Hyun-soo drives Kang-hyun home, and receives an awkward phone call on the way. He looks askance at Kang-hyun as he answers the call from his ex-wife, who’s returning to Seoul next week and asks him to take care of their house, which she’s intending to sell.

After he hangs up, Kang-hyun notices that they seem friendly, and he answers, “I promised myself when we broke up that I’d make the effort to be good friends. But that just means it’s something that requires effort.”

Kang-hyun takes her cue from Hyun-soo and tries the same thing. Aiming for a clean break with Kyung-hwan, she calls him to work out a repayment plan for the money he gave her, and says, “Let’s try our best to be good friends.” (And then muses in a blissful, self-congratulatory way to her friends, “Aren’t I cool?”)

Hyun-soo meets with his former father-in-law, with whom he has a civil relationship, and his former mother-in-law, with whom he does not. She’s in the hospital (cancer), and refuses to speak to Hyun-soo or even look at him. This is a very short scene, but hints at bigger issues to come.

Kang-hyun’s mother calls her over to deliver some expensive tonic drinks to Kyung-hwan — it’s clear her family loves Kyung-hwan, and neither parent believes Kang-hyun when she says their breakup is permanent this time.

She tries to refuse the tonics, but her mother won’t have it. So Kang-hyun takes the drinks with her to a classmates’ reunion and gives them out there.

Although she’s been telling herself that she’s going to be mature about her breakup, things get hard to take when she steps away from the table and overhears her classmates talking about her breakup. To her face they were sympathetic, but behind their back they all agree that she’s difficult, and they would have dumped her far sooner.

It also hurts to hear them talk about Kyung-hwan’s new girlfriend, who is not only a fellow law student but another older woman (by four years) — in fact, she’s even older than Kang-hyun.

With the wound picked open again, Kang-hyun goes through her things and throws out everything related to Kyung-hwan in a flurry of hurt feelings. She angrily throws her couple ring into the trash bag, but when it rolls down the hill, she starts running after it. I guess there’s just something that feels wrong about throwing away jewelry that once meant something.

She tries to sell the ring, but it’s worth less than half its initial value. Plus, she doesn’t even have a certificate of proof for the diamond because she didn’t know to ask for one when she bought it. She muses glumly, “A love that’s over is only worth half its price. When I embark on love next time, am I supposed to ask for a certificate of proof?”

Instead, she gives the ring to a beggar and tells herself to learn from the experience and move on.

Kang-hyun’s advice to the divorcee has worked, so now the woman can resume her dating life. Since she’s attracted to bad boys who turn out to be bad husbands, Kang-hyun chooses a nice guy this time, which the divorcee is not keen on. But Kang-hyun gets the woman to promise dating the man at least three times before making a judgment (and watches his kid on the first date).

Luckily, all seems well, and before long, the couple is on their happy third date.

Because this can’t be a trendy drama without our four main players in as close proximity as possible, Kyung-hwan is brought into the same firm as Hyun-soo. Apparently his girlfriend is the niece of Hye-sun, which got him the position. When he’s introduced to Hyun-soo and Kang-hyun, Kyung-hwan stammers that he and Kang-hyun used to go to college together, but that they’re not very close.

When Hye-sun suggests the four of them have lunch together, Kyung-hwan makes an excuse to avoid the awkward encounter, so it’s a quiet lunch for two instead.

Stung by Kyung-hwan’s treatment of her — pretending as though they barely know each other — Kang-hyun is lost in thought all throughout lunch, distracted and silent. She can’t hide the tears that start to fall while she eats, which Hyun-soo notices but pretends not to out of respect for her privacy.

As they leave the restaurant, Kang-hyun wipes at her eyes, lamely saying that the mustard was too spicy. Hyun-soo walks ahead without her, and Kang-hyun thinks he must be ashamed to be seen with a crying woman.

Instead, he comes back bearing an ice cream cone, saying it will help alleviate the spiciness.

Later that afternoon, Kang-hyun relaxes on the rooftop, sunning her ring finger to rid it of the five-year-old tan line. She wills the line to fade: “Disappear, like the past…”

Hyun-soo receives some bad news about his brother. The man has not been found, but the signs point to suicide. In a stunned daze, Hyun-soo goes up to the rooftop chair to think, not even noticing Kang-hyun’s presence until he sits on her.

The two argue over their claim over the space — she’s personalized the space with her own things, while he hardly uses it even though the chair and umbrella are his. She asks what the law would say, and at his answer that neither has legal sway over the other, she interprets it to mean, “First come, first served!”

But she notices a backlog of calls on her phone, and gets on the phone with her irate boss. Sung-ho tells her that her divorcee client just canceled her account — and so did the man she was set up with. Kang-hyun is SO FIRED.

So my boy Mickey is back with episode 3 of "Road To The Achievement". “And two?”

“We’ll call her the ‘Suzy G.’,” Cob said quietly, “She’d like that.”

And so the blue-hulled tug becomes the Suzy G.

Chapter III-Maggie, Episode 3

Lake Superior has a temper and can be when the mood strikes her, a very dangerous place for boats of all sizes—as evident by the many hulks strewn about beneath her surface.

But this day she was calm—too calm for a proper shakedown cruise—Cob & Molly did their best to test the freshly renamed Suzy G’s lake-worthiness. But still, they were satisfied and both were smiling as Molly brought her to a soft landing at the South Pier—her new home.

“I can see by that look on your face, that you are happy with Suzy’s performance,” Molly said as they secured the lines to the pier.

“And you no doubt, agree. If your smile were any wider, Capt’n, you’d fracture your face,” Cob chuckled in reply.

“Our bosses will be pleased,” Molly stated.

“And who might they be?”

“They, or he, as one has retired but maintains his shares in the company, choose to remain behind the scene,” the captain explained, “I am a minority owner as well as the chief operating officer of the company.”

“That’s the only answer I’m gonna get—right?”

“Right.”

I expect we must return to the Cabin-on-the-Rock where Maggie was about to tell the second part of her planned “changes.” So we shall:

“Maggie!” Ines exclaimed, “What are you planning?”

“I’m planning,” Maggie announced, “on running for Mayor of Danger Bay!”

“Terrific!” Bob responded.

“Oh, that is sooo cool!” Sarah exclaimed, and then added, “You have my vote.”

“Has anyone else announced?” Mac asked.

“Gamboge,” Hiram answered, and added with a hint of sarcasm “Our fine mayor is running for re-election.”

“Really?” Lysa responded, “If that’s true, then this election should be a cakewalk.”

“Don’t be so sure,” Hiram smiled grimly, “George has a lot of support, and next to my own clan, his Gamboge family has been here longer than anyone.”

“Voyageurs?” Boomer asked.

“Indeed!” Hiram replied, “The Gamboges date from the late 18^th Century—Maggie will be portrayed as a big city carpetbagger.”

“I guess I have my work cut out for me.” Maggie understated.

Indeed—and the story Continues…

SMALLVILLE

Episode 8.03 "TOXIC"

Smallville is on a roll. Three great episodes in a row. This one explores the Green Arrow's origin in flashbacks while in the present, Oliver Queen has been poisoned and has twelve hours to live. Here goes my thoughts on the episode. SPOILER warning for all you noobs.

- SPOILER ALERT -

The episode kicks off with some kind of gala event Oliver Queen threw to raise money to stop Global Warming. I wonder if all those guests car-pooled to get there... Hmmm... Anyway there was plenty of pretty people in their underwear when Ollie shows up and collapses. He's been poisoned and refuses to be taken to a hospital. He obviously knows exactly what he's been poisoned with because he announces he has twelve hours to live.

Paramedic Davis Bloom makes his second appearance in this episode. He's trying to figure out what's up with Ollie. When there's a second victim, they treat her at the hospital and she died shortly after. Turns out Ollie's had this before and knew that at a hospital they would've misdiagnosed him and pumped him full of adrenaline, which would've killed him. That's exactly what they did to his date for the evening.

While poisoned, Ollie has flashbacks to a time when he was marooned on an island. He had to make and learn to use a bow & arrow in order to catch his food. He didn't just learn to use it, he perfected his craft and has since become the greatest archer in the world. Wouldn't it have been easier to make a spear? He was on the island for 2 years, yet remained fairly well groomed. Pretty people... Sheesh. On the island, he was accidentally poisoned by a rare flower, and felt the same effects he's feeling in the present. Turns out Ms. Tess Mercer is on the same island, and cures him, warning him what would've happened, had he been taken to a hospital.

A few interesting points: Lois writes an article about a possible serial killer committing some "Grizzly Murders Down On Hampton." Could this have been Doomsday? What exactly is happening to Davis Bloom at night? On a more inappropriate, somewhat pervy note: are Erica Durance's boobs getting bigger? They looked huge to me in this episode. Not that I'm complaining. Moving on... Lois' reunion with Ollie was interesting to see. Clark is definitely breaking ground, but she still has feelings for good old Ollie too. While she tended to Ollie, Erica Durance pulled off a pretty emotional scene.

I'm not usually fond of the "its a small world, everybody knows everybody" plots, but the way they worked Tess into Ollie's past seemed to work. They also didn't tell us everything. Alluding to a romantic relationship that ended badly, and setting up some serious drama between the two, should prove interesting in future episodes. Seeing as Lex and Ollie have a history, I would've expected them to connect Ollie and Tess through Lex. Inversely, it looks like they're connecting Lex and Tess through Ollie. Meaning, it'spossible Tess made it onto Lex's radar because of her relationship with Ollie, one of Lex's competitors.

Clark gets a first had look at Chloe's new ability in this episode too. And he expressed the same concerns we fans have been speculating since the premier episode. This new ability to "process data at lightning speed" (despite the fact that there is no web browser on the planet fast enough to do what hers did) must come from Brainiac, and it could lead to his return. What made me laugh is that Clark and Chloe are yelling at each other about "abilities" and "Brainiac" with Lois in the next room.

The poisoner turns out to be the bad guy from the island. After Ollie left him poisoned on the island, he developed a chip on his shoulder and came after him and Tess. Tess isn't as noble as Ollie though. She's got some Luthorish anger in her system. After kicking his ass for a while, and getting rescued by Clark, she poisons Bad Guy again and sends him to the Hospital to get misdiagnosed and killed.

Davis Bloom has another great scene with Chloe. I like this Bloom guy with Chloe much more than Jimmy. But I'm not going to get into shippers on this site. I have my dignity.

Ollie has a pretty intense conversation with Clark. Gives him a big speech about embracing his destiny, which I thought was out of line seeing as how Clark's at the Daily Planet just so he can help people at a moments notice. But then again, Ollie's pretty pissed to find out Clark's second father figure, Lionel Luthor, was once responsible for the Queen's death.

One thing I don't think I've seen on Smallville before, was the scene where Tess and Ollie's captor on the islandshoots Tess' friend in the head... ON SCREEN! I really think this was a first for Smallville and if it wasn't please correct me. It was just so unexpected and unprecedented in my mind. Usually they'd close up on the shooter's face and you'd hear the gunshot. Then they'd pull back and the body would be on the floor. I know this was just one scene and maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but It looks to me like the writers and directors are trying to bring the show's maturity level up. It hasn't been a "teen drama" for a few seasons now, but it's not 24 either. It just looks to me like they're trying to appeal to an older audience with scenes like this one, and last season's "Super Lana and Super Clark Making Boom-Boom" episode.

Another first was Clark being in a suit and tie for the entire episode. We didn't see the blue t-shirt and red jacket at all. It was interesting seeing him run at super speed and not get a red flash in his trail. Just blue this time.

Again, great episode. Sets up lots of cool stuff for the rest of the season. I'm more pleased with this season's 3 episodes than I was with the first three from season 7. Its a pretty strong story so far with very little to gripe about.

The A-Train's "Toxic" Review: 4 out of 5 Crystals.

Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith is actually a great game, but I would advise to see the movie first before you play the game because the game reveals a little too much. The game has a few unlockables with great RPG elements involved. It has great graphics and music, but the game could have been longer. The game was too short and too easy to beat. However, fans of Star Wars should like this game no matter what. Overall, if you have seen the movie and like Star Wars games, then you should like this one.

Cons:

- Gives a lot of the movie away

- Story Mode is too short

Heroes Episode 3.03

"One Of Us, One Of Them"

Heroes is on a roll. We're back to the Season 1 formula of every episode being better than the last. I find myself impressed by how many visual effects are used in each episode. Season 1, and even most of Season 2, used the visual effect sparingly in smaller episodes, so when they let loose and had a huge one with a lot of effects, it was so exciting. Of course that is done because of budget. Lots of other shows follow the same formula, including the other two I review on this site; Smallville and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Now I don't know if Hereos got a budget raise this season but they are not being shy with those visual effects. They're using them whenever they need them, and they always seem to propel the story forward, never feeling forced or excessive.

After the jump, read my SPOILER filled review. Trying to stick to more of a general review and not so much of a recap, but there are so many amazing moments that deserve mentioning. I'm so happy to be excited about this show again.

We again pick up where the last episode left off. Angela feeds a woman with a new ability to her Son, Sylar. Tracy is playing around with her new ability in one of those visual effect scenes you can't help but love. And Peter is stuck inside Jesse's body, in a car with the other escaped villains. They're on their way to a bank robbery, which is one of those super cool plot devices I never expected to see on Heroes. Flint's flame-thrower ability is used heavily in this episode. Seriously, these guys spared no expense. Knox is a pretty scary dude when he's powered up by all the scared people.

In a weird twist, Angela pairs up Noah with Sylar in order to round up the escaped psychos. In that scene, Noah asked for the Haitian but Angela informs him he's unavailable. Noah's next line made me wonder. He said "I can't do this alone. You know how it works. 'One of us, one of them.'" And even stranger, Angela replies, "I have the perfect 'one of them' in mind." Does Noah not know Angela has a special ability like the rest of "them?" I guess not or he would've said "one of us, one of you." Hmm. Interesting.

We see a different Sylar through most of this episode. He's actually giving this a shot. Finding out Angela's his mother and that he could actually have a purpose in life other than killing everyone he meets with an ability seems intriguing to him. He even speaks differently in the episode. He doesn't use his creepy, slow speaking Sylar voice he normally uses. It was almost as if Gabriel Gray was back for a short while. Noah agrees to taking Sylar on as a partner but only to keep an eye on him. But he's not Gabriel come back, is he? Even before the scene at the bank robbery, where he gives in to his hunger, he showed signs Sylar poking through. When we first see Sylar fixing his tie, and Angela tells him he's not a killer, its his ability that has made him this way; you start to hear the clocks ticking. That oh-so-familiar sound that means Sylar is about to strike. I think he wants Angela's ability. Lucky HRG came into the room. Oh, and Sylar in a suit = Weird.

The Sylar to the rescue scene was our assurance that Sylar is still here and not a full blown hero. Sylaris a villain. Always has been. Always will be. Even if we see different sides of him, there's always going to be that dark side that takes over. The Hunger will always win.

When Noah announces he's going to figure out Sylar's weakness and then kill him, the Internet fan community asked "Why not just walk in there with the Haitian, nullify his powers, and kill him?" My sister made an excellent point: He's not going to kill Sylar as an agent of the company. Sylar attacked Claire and got what he was after. Now its personal. And HRG is an honorable man. To kill Sylar when he's powerless in a locked room would be like shooting a man in the back, or killing someone who is unarmed and/or bound. HRG wants to do it right. He wants to prove to Sylar that he's better and in charge.

Hiro and Ando's scenes were incredibly funny. Hiro constantly referring to Daphne as his "nemesis" and doing funny superhero poses when in her presence cracked me up. He's definitely pushing Ando away though and that's going to have a direct effect on their future, as seen in last week's episode. They run into the Haitian (welcome back buddy!) and attempt to steal the other half of the formula, only to screw it up, have it stolen by Daphne, and now they're put in Level 5 by the Haitian. What's worse is that Daphne's employers now have both halves of the formula. I smell world destruction coming. One nitpick with this episode was Hiro and Ando's surprise at hearing there was another half to the formula. Come on Ando, you knew this already. And Daphne's facial expressions are all ridiculous and over the top. But that's more an acting nitpick than anything else.

Claire clearly wants to be out with her dad stopping the bad guys but her mom wants her to go to school. Claire's biological mother relates with her just enough to get involved. She takes Claire to get some "training" but really all she does is make Claire realize why she wants to be a hero in the first place. Its not for selfless reasons. Quite the opposite. She wants revenge. Lots of visual effects in that scene too. Gotta love it.

Every time I see Nathan on screen I can't help but scream in my head "FLY! ZIP UP INTO THE SKIES! SONIC BOOM! COME ON!!!" *sigh*... And Ali Larter is still stealing scenes, which is hard to do next to Adrian Pasdar. I'm not just saying that because we share the same first name. The man is an excellent actor. He's got a presence to him. Almost one of authority. I buy him as a politician. Someone in a position of power.

I'm not sure how I feel about Matt's storyline. On the one hand, I'm happy this new character is here. We finally have a replacement for Isaac Mendez, a source for new paintings, and a more regular provider of information about the future. Plus, he's a pretty cool character. But when he teaches Matt how to do it too, now we may be getting more precogs than we need. And I'm not sure how visions of the future relate to the ability to read and control minds. This is one of those wait and see things. I'm not against it just yet, I just have to see where its going. Still... Spirit walks are cool.

Seeing Micah again was a nice treat. And seeing Niki's body in the casket was eery. It was confirmation that Tracy is DEFINITELY not Niki. But finding out Tracy was "created," and so was Niki, and presumably Jessica too. How many more could there be out there? Micah's hug was just heartwarming and I feel really bad for the little tyke. He's an orphan now and we're not going to see much of him this season. His one scene was pretty cool though.

My Favorite scene was definitely the climax of the bank heist. Peter using Jesse's ability was cool. And the visual effects when Futurelli stopped time mid-scream were gorgeous. Futurelli literally pushing Peter out of Jesse and then seeing Futurelli and Peter face to face was so exciting. Especially finding out that next week we'll probably be treated to an episode taking place in the future. Those are always good. 

Hilarious moments include Sylar using the term "lookie-loo" and asking HRG, "You drink Decaff right Noah?" His impression of a Tommy Lee Jones from The Fugitivetype character was pretty funny. Hiro asking "What are you doing?" and Ando replying, "Being awesome!" Followed shortly by "Popcorn?" Knox complaining about "Super-Guantanamo." Awesome.

This episode is my new favorite... until next week, that is.

The A-Train's "One Of Us, One Of Them" Rating: 5 out of 5 Eclipses!

As expected in this show, they now eliminate another prominent role—Bob. He really portrayed it well and being the father of Elle (correct the spelling if wrong), it really blends. What happens to Kristen Bell now? Is she coming back? I really like her and her abilities, hope she stays regular.

This will always keep us craving for more. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Die neue Trilogie gefiel mir zwar nicht so, aber dieser abschließende Teil sticht dann doch positiv hervor.

This week on From G's to Gents: the editors fuck up and show a preview of a future ep where the guys all learn how to talk to women. Some girl talks about wanting to do body shots off of Stan's chest, so apparantly they learn how to be gentleman to girls who get a little slutty at parties. Ahem. So, due to this eff up, we know going into the ep that Cee, Stan, Creepa and Kesan will be staying. Which totally ruins all the tension in this ep about Kesan trying to run out on the show.

I forgot to tell you guys in the first episode recap that I'm friends with one of Pretty Ricky's cousins. So I only have two degrees of seperation from the white glove.

Let's get to the actual episode they played. Start out with shots of tattoos, dogs, grafitti, shots of LA, the sun setting, G mansion. The G's sit around and gossip about Kesan like a bunch of girls. They think Bentley doesn't see who Kesan really is. Kesan stands on the balcony and listens to them, then pipes up. "What the hell you talkin' about?" Hollering ensues, but Kesan doesn't take the bait and goes back into his room.

What appears to be the next day, J Boogie sits around being boring, while Shotta voices over that he thinks J Boogie is a "gangsta who hangs around other gangstas, but is not really a gangsta." JB interviews that he's a pretty boy but will snap at you if you come at him the wrong way. Foreshadowing much? I think reality show editing must be pretty much like Paint by Numbers these days. I remember when competitive reality was actually interesting. Or even cheesy goodness like Paradise Island or Kept.

Fredrick calls the G's to the chapter room where they find a bunch of "preppy shit"(per E6) outfits laid out. Kesan is chosen to read The Daily Gent, which talks about seeing who's the best at playing some sport. They dress, someone dances around in his outfit, they board the product placement SUVS. Like a bunch of 8th graders, the G's in Cee's car are still talking about Kesan, this time saying that he spit on D-Boy's bed after he apologized. D-Boy is a huge drama queen so he gets all worked up about it. Cee doesn't want DB to say anything because he doesn't want to look like he's lying.

G's arrive at a field with a banner up that reads Southern California Cricket Association, and a few guys out on the field playing. T-Jones: "It kinda lookeded[Note:that's not a typo. That's how he pronounced it.] like baseball,  but a weird ass baseball". Fonzworth Bentley greets them and tells them they'll be learning to play cricket. The editors cut in the sound of crickets chirping as the G's sit there with "wtf?" expressions. FB explains that today's lesson (and Chapter 3 in the handbook) is Sportsmanship. He explains the rules, introduces them to Guest Expert of the Week David Sentance, a cricket expert. They G's all play cricket. Attention is focused for a moment on J Boogie, who interviews that he grew up playing golf. Bentley interviews what we're all thinking, that he thinks J Boogie is a "wanna-g". Ahahahahahaha! Even a so-called gentleman is calling J Boogie a wannabe.

After the lesson, Fonzworth Bentley picks teams for their challenge that night. Not sufficiently happy with the amount of drama they've gotten for the show so far, the producers predictably have FB choose Kesan and D-Boy as team captains. Kesan's team--Creepa, Stan, Shaun and T-Jones. D-Boy's team---J-Boogie, Cee, Shotta, E6. D-Boy talking heads that Kesan is a fake, yo. Kesan: "Let the games begin, gentleman."

Still in their cricket clothes, they go to a basketball court and learn they will be playing 5-on-5 g-ball. J Boogie's talking head tells us that basketball is his #1 sport, and that's all he does if he's not in the lab. Say what now? That's so not 'g'. FB introduces them to two referees: James, the game ref. And Paul, the metrosexual ref. He's wearing the traditional black and white referee stripes in a fitted vest and tie, with a bell tied around his neck. He will be their etiquette ref. The G's learn that though they still earn a point for every basket they make, they will have a point deducted for any ungentlemanly conduct. The winner will be safe from elimination. FB surprises them with the news that they won't be playing each other, but in true reality show style, they go to commercial all dramatically.

When we get back, the G's are intro'd to their opponents, a bunch of "goons" that the producers probably encouraged to act a fool. D-Boy's team is picked to go first. Shotta scores right away, but D-Boy soon fouls by clapping at one of his opponents. E6 is fouled for "telling the ref how to do his job". Another foul for distracting. Shotta slaps somebody(their arm or something) and is fouled, then made to apologize. The score is 8-3; D-Boy's team loses.

Before Kesan's team even starts, one of the goons accepts a 20 from one of the producers and tries to instigate something with Creepa, who starts to take the bait. Shaun pulls him to the side and tries to calm him down. Game begins. T-Jones immediately gets three fouls for swearing, arguing with the ref  and then disrespecting the ref. At one point, the etiquette ref apparently gets really involved in the outcome of the game, because he tells Stan, "I felt like you gave up on that". The hell? Ring the bell on yourself homie! Kesan's team doesn't score any baskets at all and loses.

Fonzworth Bentley announces the final scores. D-Boy's team had 3 baskets and 11 fouls, making their actual score -8. Kesan's team had 0 baskets and 7 fouls. They win the challenge with their -7 score.

Back at the house, Kesan is excited to be safe from elimination. Cee stews in the kitchen, thinking Kesan is a threat to him. So he decides to try to shit all over Kesan's mood by confronting him in his room about spitting on D-Boy's bed.

I have a little admission to make. I think Kesan is kinda cute. He looks especially cute at  this part of the show, where he goes around tidying up his room. He looked kinda like a little kid when he was standing up the books that he's gotten so far from the show on his dresser. Like when you're proud of some new little trinket you got and set it out to show it off. He may or may not be putting a front for the show, but that was a real moment of self-pride there. Ahem. Anyhow. Cee's attempt to rile Kesan up doesn't work, so he runs off like a little bitch and talks to D-Boy about it. Dude, if D-Boy gave a real shit about the spitting, let him confront him on his own. D-Boy allows himself to be manipulated and remembers that he's mad about it. There's this big to-do over whether or not the spit was before or after Kesan's apology. Shaun goes to Kesan and asks him if he did spit on the bed. Kesan admits it but doesn't want to discuss it with them. There's a whole bunch of talk about how it's disrespectful, especially by Cee, who puts on his best Godfather posturing.

Kesan, thinking if he doesn't get out of the house he's going to really get into it with someone, packs his bags to leave. Cee tries to mind fuck him by saying he's not going to really do it, thinking Kesan will leave just to prove him wrong. Cee:"See you in the morning." Kesan leaves the house, rolling two suitcases behind him. Shaun decides to run after him and pleads with him to talk to him. Shaun: "You gonna walk out on me Kesan?" Which made me giggle, as did "It's about us, it's about me and you." Back at the house, the G's thinks it's all fake and Kesan never really planned to leave and just wants screen time FB to convince him to stay. D-Boy continues to be a drama queen by making a big show of his blanket with the spit stain, which looked much like I'd guess Monica Lewinksy's did. And, uh, why didn't dude wash that?  And also, shut the fuck up about it. It's lame. Maybe I'm just old, but I've gone through enough fucked up bullshit in my life that if some dude spit on my bed, I'd maybe say "fuck you", then just go wash my blanket and be done with it. Damn, I'm more G than all these fools. 

Shaun gets Kesan to come back to the house to talk. Creepa joins them, and Kesan is touched that he took off his "hater blockers", which means he's being real with him. They talk to him about how far he's come and give him a g-style pep talk, and he decides to stay at the house for the night out of respect for the two of them and Bentley. Of course, they barely make it inside the house before they are confronted by D-Boy and E6. They try to call Kesan out. Suddenly Cee starts to feel bad about instigating the whole thing and tries to get D-Boy to back off.  They go sit somewhere together and D-Boy is still heated, talking shit about Kesan. Cee drinks a 40 oz and voices over how bad he feels over what he's done.

Cee drink dials his ex-girlfriend Gina and starts crying pretty much as soon as she answers. He spouts the usual Reality Show CryBaby line about wanting to go home. He repeatedly says that he can't change. After the call he drinks another 40 and mopes around. The next morning, he smokes outside, deep in thought about how to get more screen time  what he's done. Meanwhile, Kesan meets with Fonzworth Bentley. He talks about his issues with violence, saying he's lost every job he ever had and even got locked up as a result of his violent tendencies. Bentley tells him they are all writing books, and not all of the chapters can be good. He encourages him by telling him that real champions know how to fail and get back up. He asks if Kesan wants to be here. "Absolutely." Kesan interviews about needing to focus on his goals and wanting to prove himself.

Fredrick tells the G's to dress for elimination. Suddenly Shaun decides to g-check J Boogie. J Boogie responds in his usual boring manner. I guess he's too lame to snap at Shaun like he said he'd do earlier in the ep. Talking head JB says he thinks the show is more of a popularity contest when it shouldn't be. Get over it, Boogie. Most competitive reality is about nothing more than popularity. How else do you think Kelly Monaco managed to win the first season of Dancing with the Stars? Shaun tells J Boogie not to be surprised if he gets blackballed tonight. 

On a balcony somewhere, Cee admits to a group of G's that he x'd out his own picture, not Kesan. D-Boy doesn't want him to admit it to Kesan. Cee voices over about being worried that he'll be the next to go.

Votes take place. Creepa interviews that "I'm seeing all this bickering and backering in the house." I kinda loved that. Backering. Heh. He votes for D-Boy. Elimination starts. I'm annoyed that Cee is wearing a t-shirt underneath his blazer. It looks stupid. And how tall is Cee anyway, like 5'3? Moving on, Bentley comes in and tells him he was proud of them on the cricket field but they didn't keep that  behavior up when they got home. He talks about what he wants them to learn from this, then starts counting spheres. Sphere count: Shotta-0, E6-1 (FB:"Sounds personal"), D-Boy--3, Cee-2, J Boogie-4. When Cee's balls are revealed(hee), FB tells him he needs to get it together because he doesn't want his time wasted.  J Boogie, Cee and D-Boy are called down for final elimination.

J Boogie's plea to stay in the house is unconvincing, saying he's very focused and he's not like others who drink and start drama. D-Boy brings up the spitting AGAIN, and there's back and forth between him and Cee about whether the spit was before or after Kesan's apology. Bentley interrupts their bickering to make his decision. He stats that consistency is important and for that reason, D-Boy is allowed to stay. He emphasizes the title of the show, and tells J Boogie he is too boring to continue to be on the show doesn't need this. Talking head Fonzworth says that you have to be a g to start with, not a wanna-g. Oooooooooh, snap. Even Fonzworth g-checked J Boogie.

Next week on the show: Irv Gotti. That's be far more exciting for me if he brought his estranged wife Deb along. When's Gotti's Way coming back? Or maybe that realized how traumatizing it was for their kids to have all of their schoolmates see their dad talk about how he didn't love their mom enough to stop fucking around.

Bei Star Wars: The Force Unleashed handelt es sich um den zweiten Versuch im Jahr 2008 dem Star Wars Franchise frischem Wind einzuhauchen. Dass der erste Versuch kläglich gescheitert ist konnte man bereits in unserem Review zu Star Wars: The Clone Wars lesen. Nun stellt sich die Frage, ob Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, nach dem Tiefpunkt der Star Wars Geschichte, wieder ein Lichtblick ist.

Eines steht fest – die Macht ist stark in The Force Unleashed, daher kommt nämlich der Titel. Die Macht wird stärker als je zuvor dargestellt (sie wird schließlich „entfesselt“) und bereits nach den ersten Trailern klappen Fans die Kinnladen runter... „Wozu ist dieser Unbekannte denn fähig?“, werden sich viele fragen. 

Jetzt widme ich mich erstmal der Story, die in einem guten Star Wars Game natürlich nicht zu kurz kommen darf.

The Secret Apprentice

Die Handlung spielt zwischen Episode 3 und 4 und überbrückt somit eine ziemlich große Zeitspanne, da etwa 20 Jahre zwischen den besagten Episoden vergehen.

Nach der Order 66 existieren nur noch wenige Jedi in der Galaxis. Darth Vader, die rechte Hand des Imperators, macht sich auf den Weg nach Kashyyyk, dem Heimatplaneten der Wookies, um einen der überlebenden Jedi zu vernichten. Als Vader ihn duelliert und letztendlich besiegt will er ihn töten, doch ein kleiner Junge reißt Vader sein Lichtschwert durch die Macht aus der Hand. Vader spürt die Stärke des Jungen, tötet seinen Vater und nimmt ihn als Schüler auf. Das Spiel macht einen großen Zeitsprung. Der Spieler schlüpft nun in die Rolle des geheimen Schülers und muss nach und nach die Jedi vernichten. Die Geschichte ist gelungen und kann sich durchaus im offiziellen Kanon sehen lassen. Übrigens spielt man in der ersten Mission Darth Vader, der natürlich relativ langsam und unbeweglich ist, doch dafür schon über die volle Machtentwicklung verfügt.

„Wipe them out, all of them!“ – „Vernichte sie, bis auf den Letzten!“ – Darth Sidious

Das Spielprinzip ähnelt sehr stark Spielen, wie „Devil May Cry“ und „God of War“, genaugenommen ist es sogar dasselbe. Man steuert den Protagonisten aus der Verfolgerperspektive und metzelt sich durch Unmengen von Gegner, doch da „Starkiller“ ja ein geheimer Schüler ist, darf er keine Zeugen hinterlassen und vernichtet auch verbündete Sturmtruppen. Die Steuerung ist auf ein Kombosystem fixiert. Es gilt bestimmte Tasten in einer Reihgenfolge oder gleichzeitig zu drücken um spektakuläre Moves zu vollführen. Für jeden besiegten Gegner gibt es Lebensenergie. Die Macht lädt sich nach kurzer Zeit von selbst wieder auf. Die ist übrigens das, was The Force Unleasehd ausmacht, ihr könnt gleich während der ersten Mission Tie Fighter per Macht greifen und sie auf eure Ziele schleudern. Gegriffen wird mit dem rechten Trigger und gesteuert wird das Objekt dann mit den beiden Analogsticks. Zielt man also auf einen Sturmtruppler schiebt man den linken Stick nach vorne und lässt den Trigger los, das Objekt was sich eben noch im Machtgriff befand wird kräftig nach vorne geschleudert und reißt alles mit was im Weg steht. Objekte greifen funktioniert mit einer automatischen Zielerkennung, die leider etwas ungenau ist, doch wenn man sie erst mal in Kontrolle hat klappt alles prima. Was den Einsatz der Macht besonders spektakulär macht sind die drei verwendeten Physikengines. Holzsplitter immer anders, Metall verbiegt sich wie Metall und Glassplitter unglaublich überzeugend… Auch die Gegner verhalten sich realistisch, sie klammern sich an Kisten fest, humpeln wenn sie etwas an das Bein bekommen usw. Da es keinerlei Skripts für solche Zwecke im Spiel gibt, sieht ein und die selbe Sache immer anders aus. Doch das ganze bringt auch einen Nachteil mit sich, den anders kann ich mir nicht erklären, wieso Gegner, sämtliche Trümmer, und auch große Bosse wie AT-STs nach nur wenigen Sekunden verschwinden.

Apropos Bosse, an jedem Levelende erwartet euch solch einer, diese Kämpfe haben meist eine Arenaperspektive und machen besonders Laune. Der Kampf geht dann mit einem QTE (Quick-Time-Event) zu Ende. Das heißt der Spieler drückt so schnell es geht die Tasten, die auf dem Bildschirm angezeigt werden um den Feind in einer vorgefertigten Sequenz zu erledigen. In einem Level sind diverse Power-Ups und Holocrons verteilt, die es einzusammeln gilt. Beim bezwingen von Gegnern oder dem Sammeln von Holocrons sammelt man Erfahrungspunkte, die man für die Machtfähigkeiten ausgibt. Man kann seinen Charakter also nach Belieben leveln.

Helle und dunkle Seite der Macht

Betrachten wir nun die Technik.

Natürlich fällt sofort der bombastische Soundtrack auf, ebenso die Effekte sind auf gewohnt hohem Star Wars Niveau und auch die Synchronsprecher machen einen guten Job. Dabei gibt es in der deutschen Version sogar Originalsprecher zu hören. Auch die Grafik ist gut und lässt den Spieler an manchen Stellen die Pracht genießen, doch kommt es auch vor, dass man mal auf matschige Texturen trifft. Das ist aber eher selten der Fall. Zu kämpfen hat das Spiel aber auch mit Tearing, das heißt mit Zeilenverschiebung. Wenn man die Kamera schnell dreht, dann werden markante Striche durch das Bild gezogen, aber auch solche Patzer halten sich in Grenzen.

Fazit

Alles in Allem ist das Gameplay gut, jedoch mangelt es dem Spiel an Abwechslung, es gibt zwar einige Rätsel, diese sind aber sehr spärlich verteilt und nicht wirklich fordernd. Eine Schleichmission hätte auch nicht geschadet, da der Schüler eben geheim bleiben soll. Eher selten gibt es Kameraprobleme, aber auch diese sollten erwähnt werden. Ein weiterer sehr großer Kritikpunkt ist, dass es keinen Multiplayermodus gibt. Nun aber genug gemeckert, denn wenn man Star Wars: The Force Unleashed spielt, „spürt“ man die Macht, spätestens wenn man das größtmögliche Objekt in den Machtgriff bringt. Es kommt von Anfang an Star Wars Atmosphäre auf (übrigens hier wieder das originale Intro). Man sollte aber definitiv keinen Überkracher erwarten, doch handelt es sich um ein sehr gutes Spiel. Zum Hit fehlt allerdings noch etwas Innovation. Allen Star Wars Fans lege ich dieses Spiel ans Herz, allen die nichts mit Star Wars anfangen können sollten sowieso die Finger davon lassen.

Ob es sich für 7-8 Stunden Spielzeit lohnt 60-70 € auszugeben, muss jeder selber wissen, ansonsten kann ich nur empfehlen sich das Spiel aus der Videothek auszuleihen.

Story	Die Story ist gelungen, es kommt richtige Star Wars Atmosphäre auf, doch sind die Zwischensequenzen etwas kurz geraten.
Gameplay	Die Machtfertigkeiten machen das Spiel besonders, gerade die Bosskämpfe wissen zu überzeugen. Einige Stellen sind etwas schwierig, aber nie unfair.
Grafik	Die grafische Qualität schwankt, doch bleibt gut. Es gibt zwar Tearing, aber die Framerate bleibt konstant. Die Charaktere sehen sehr gut aus, vor allem die Mimik.
Sound	Der Sound ist bombastisch und die bekannten Stücke wurden vom Komponisten von KotOR II wunderbar ergänzt.
Multiplayer	nicht vorhanden
Gesamt	Ein Spiel welches gute Videospielkost liefert und viele Star Wars Fans glücklich machen wird.
