Wow, I was quite surprised. Scale down my goals to make them achievable - no thanks! I want to THINK BIG, and play BIG! You can't start living a grand life if you are thinking along the lines of what you can achieve.

The other day I heard Adam Urbanski say something like, "Some business owners make goals based on what they know how to achieve, other business owners make goals on what they think they can do and the others make goals based on what they truly want to do." I completely agree with this message.

We can all go around making really achievable, simple and realistic goals - which is great, but at the same time if you want to play a BIGGER game, you have got to stretch your comfort zone and get out of thinking only along the lines of what you can achieve.

Anything is possible in this universe. We have the power to create anything we want in our lives.

Don't let other people tell you to play small or hamper your goals of doing, being and having more.

  1. Delete 120 minutes a day of 'spare time' from your life. This can include TV, reading the newspaper, commuting, wasting time in social networks and meetings. Up to you.

  2. Spend the 120 minutes doing this instead:

It never ceases to amaze me that people base their security in jobs. There's no such thing as job security. Anytime you work for someone else, I don't care how much your boss likes you, how well you do your job, or how well or poor the economy gets, you're always looking at an income cap and one pink slip away from possible financial devastation.

Things change. People change. Circumstances change. The economy changes. Life happens.

Have you ever heard the saying, "If it's meant to be, it's up to me?"

Well, today more than ever, men and women need to evaluate their situation and their options for insuring financial security for their families. They really need to understand that if they seek true financial freedom, it's up to them personally, to create it and keep it. And I'm not talking about a job where it could be gone tomorrow. I'm talking about making a decision to be their own boss in which they hold all the cards.

I'll be the first to tell you that not everyone is cut out for entrepreneurship, however, there's a great deal of people who have entertained the idea throughout their lives and it's these people I'm talking about. Some have acted on those dreams and perhaps have failed, and then others have thought about it but have never taken that first step.

What is it that has people so frozen in their dreams of home business ownership, that they stay in a broken work force? They seem so sure that their security is in their jobs, when it's actually the other way around. Security is in working for yourself, being your own boss. But because we are taught from childhood how to be good employees, dreams of entrepreneurship are quashed and most people lack the skills and belief system it takes to be successful in that arena. And, because of that, would-be entrepreneurs never achieve all that they were destined to be. This is a tragedy.

Let's put entrepreneurship v. a job in perspective here and do a quick comparison.

WORKERS/CAREER ORIENTED/EMPLOYEES

This group of individuals invest thousands of dollars on education and give up years of their life to classroom study to be able to enter their career field where they become enslaved. From this point forward, these workers will be told what to do for the next 40 years. It will be dictated as to how much they can earn which determines when, where and for how long they vacation, the type of car they drive, the home they live in, and the effects ripple down even to the food on the table and gifts under the tree at Christmas. Oh, and now they have school loans to pay for years.

HOME BASED BUSINESS OWNERS/ENTREPRENEURS/NETWORK MARKETERS

This group of people invest trivial amounts of money (in comparison to a college education, I'm talking a couple hundred to a couple thousand, no big deal) in an opportunity, generally a network marketing or MLM company, they spend a relatively short amount of time learning skill sets, perhaps attend a seminar or two, begin on the job training immediately, enjoy the privilege of tax write offs, and best of all, does not get up to alarms clocks every morning to shower, shave and shine to head to the rat race. Nobody tells them what to do, what to wear, what they can earn, where they can vacation and their time is their own and there is no such thing as an income cap.

If people would put their fears aside about being their own boss, they would be able to sit back and assess the situation and their options in a more rational way. When you look at the two comparisons, doesn't business ownership make better sense all the way around?

So, the question these Moms and Dads have to answer as they scratch their heads searching for answers to their financial security is whether they choose Plan A, stay in the work force or Plan B, take control of their life through a business of their own. There is no Plan C.

Isn't it worth rolling up your sleeves, learning some skill sets on how to effectively market online, choose a product and industry you are passionate about and create wealth from home? Why Are You Doing Everything Yourself?

When I coach my entrepreneur clients, one problem I often see is that they’re not taking enough time to market and grow their business. It’s not that they don’t understand the value of those efforts, or they don’t want to make the time. It’s that they’re simply trying to do too much by themselves. They’re so busy running their business that they’re not working ON their business.

Are You Spending All Your Time on the Little Stuff?

Owning your own business requires wearing a lot of hats. But it seems that when many people leave their jobs to “go solo,” they think they must work completely solo as well. They insist on doing everything themselves--even tasks they know darn well they’re not good at.

They try in vain to design their own Web sites and brochures, write their own sales copy, process their own orders, manage their own mailing list, personally respond to every customer call and e-mail, ship their own products, and more. Pretty soon they’re running around like that proverbial headless chicken.

What eventually happens is their love for their work--the reason they started their own business in the first place-- drowns in a flood of administrative trivia. Suddenly one morning they wake up feeling burnt out and without that positive, creative energy they used to have.

When this happened to me a few years ago, I was lucky to learn about virtual assistants (VAs). VAs are freelancers who take care of all that “busy work” for entrepreneurs like us. Because VAs are independent themselves, they work on an as-needed basis from their own homes or offices, saving you the cost and hassle of hiring a regular office assistant.  I now have two VAs--Liz, who lives in Boston, and June, who lives in Georgia. What Could YOU Delegate to a VA?

During next week, keep a log of all your activities. Then sit down and review it. Decide which activities are truly ones that only you can do and which you can delegate. For example, here are some of the tasks I delegate to my VAs:

And I don’t stop there. Liz and June have also been happy to help me with personal stuff like researching vacations, purchasing client gifts, and reminding me of birthdays and other important dates. Thanks to these two amazing gals, I save my time and energy only for my “genius work.”

L'Université Populaire, projet présenté par Pascal Bourgois, de la Maison de la Nature et de l'Environnement de Bordeaux Aquitaine

La seconde présentation a mis en avant le projet porté par les associations de la MNE Aquitaine et de nombreux autres partenaires! L'idée est de sensibiliser, informer, former, convaincre, mobiliser… les citoyens aquitains sur les conséquences environnementales au sens large de ces crises et leur permettre ainsi d’en comprendre les grands enjeux, d’en connaître les acteurs institutionnels et associatifs ainsi que leurs activités.

Comme l'explique Pascal, "cette démarche d’éducation populaire s’inscrit dans la logique de l’après Grenelle de l’environnement. La finalité est de permettre au plus grand nombre de personnes de construire sa propre opinion sur les mutations en cours, de comprendre le pourquoi des changements personnels et collectifs nécessaires et de faciliter leurs mises en œuvre".

Les informations seront accessibles dans le cadre de cours, conférences-débats… sur un territoire limité dans un premier temps à l’agglomération bordelaise mais qui a vocation à s’élargir progressivement à la Gironde puis à l’Aquitaine, et aussi d’un centre ressource documentaire électronique et si possible physique.

Lors des différentes rencontres préparatoires ont émergées différentes attentes et objectifs (qui ont vocation à évoluer) :

• S’inscrire dans une stratégie globale
• Garder la mémoire des interventions (les filmer et les rendre accessibles sur un site)
• Dans le choix des intervenants et de l’animateur, rechercher à la fois la qualité de l’expertise, de la pédagogie et qu’ils soient porteurs de valeurs humanistes
• Rechercher l’efficacité en matière de communication, la forme doit égaler le fond
• Utiliser ces rencontres pour développer les partenariats entre associations adhérentes à la MNE, avec des associations non encore adhérentes, les services de l’Etat, les collectivités territoriales…
• Permettre des allers-retours entre le travail de terrain des associations et la recherche universitaire
• Encourager les « étudiants » de l’UPE à adhérer aux associations environnementales

Six outils ont vocation à répondre à ces objectifs :

1. Organiser la mise en place de cours, de conférences-débats, de forum… seul ou en partenariat avec l’Université, l’Utopia, des collectivités locales, d’autres associations… sous différents formats tels que :

• « Ciné club » Nous avons l’accord de principe de l’Utopia pour co-organiser une fois par trimestre la diffusion d’un film suivi d’un débat sur les grands enjeux de l’environnement
• « Forum » Il s’agit d’organiser plusieurs fois par an des débats publics avec des « experts » portant des points de vue contradictoires, dans des lieux différents, avec des partenaires et des publics différents
• « Cours tout public » L’objectif est de mettre en place des cycles de formation sur un thème, par exemple fin 2008 “La naissance de l’environnement”, approche vue par un économiste, un sociologue, un politiste, un juriste, un agronome, un historien de l’art… Entre 5 et 10 cours de 2h00 toute les 2 semaines à compter de la mi octobre 2008 avec intervention d’une heure, puis échange d’une heure avec la salle.
• « Grand témoin » Dans le même esprit que les forums, il s’agit d’organiser des conférences-débats autour d’un intervenant médiatique comme par exemple Edgar Morin ou Jean-Marie Pelt, Serge Latouche, Jean-Pierre Dupuy, Patrick Viveret, Pierre Rabhi, Hubert Reeves, Albert Jacquard, Boris Cyrulnick, Hervé Kempf, Yves Cochet, Dominique Bourg, Franck Dominique Vivien, Jean-Paul Kaufman…
• « Auditeur libre» Il s’agit d’inventorier et de communiquer sur les cours en lien avec l’environnement accessibles dans les différentes facultés bordelaises

2. Mettre en place un Site Internet, centre ressource électronique, sur les activités pédagogique de l’Université populaire (programme, accès aux vidéos, dossiers thématiques…), les grands enjeux de l’environnement, les associations environnementales d’Aquitaine, leurs activités, les autres acteurs régionaux de l’environnement et les problématiques environnementales.

3. Diffuser une lettre électronique aux associations, service de l’Etat, collectivités et grand public sur les activités pédagogiques de la MNE, l’actualité de l’environnement et les activités des associations environnementales et des Pouvoirs publics. Il s’agit aussi grâce au site Internet et à la lettre de mobiliser de nouveaux bénévoles et de permettre ainsi aux associations de renforcer le développement de leurs projets et de mieux répondre aux évolutions de la demande sociale et environnementale.

4. Organiser régulièrement des rencontres, des formations et des échanges de pratiquesentre les associations environnementales de la région et favoriser les mises en réseau thématiques et territoriales ainsi que les partenariats.

5. Étudier la faisabilité d’un Centre ressource environnement/Développement durable régional qui aurait vocation à se construire en complémentarité avec les initiatives existantes. Il s’appuierait au départ sur les centres ressources documentaires de la SEPANSO Aquitaine, du CREAQ, de Maisons paysannes de Gironde…

6. Le Blog: dans l’attente d’un site Internet qui devrait voir le jour fin 2008, début 2009, site Internet dont nous aimerions faire le site de référence sur l’environnement en Aquitaine, ce blog qui le préfigure a vocation à être un :

• support d’information pour l’Université populaire de l’environnement qui va débuter son activité en octobre 2009
• outil de communication de la MNE à destination des associations adhérentes, de leurs adhérents, des partenaires, du grand public…
• outil de travail pour les différents comités de pilotage au sein de la MNE (Université populaire de l’environnement, communication, centre ressource documentaire…)

Vous y trouverez quelques actualités sur les actions des associations et de nos partenaires de la région, des informations à caractère général sur l’environnement et des articles protégés à destination des membres des comités de pilotage interne.

How are you? With my first coffee of the morning I was thinking about all the new entrepreneurs who have  borrow money from family or friends to start with his new business.

 An idea and  willingness to work hard the problems may begin to obtain financing and the question goes  "Dad, can I borrow money?"

But as we can avoid these conflicts: the loan should always be formalized in a document that guarantees the transparency of the operation and must adapt to the circumstances of each particular claim and to avoid misunderstanding, informed the rest of the family as soon as possible any unexpected with the same rigor than as a stranger.

Own resources are the most used by young entrepreneurs in the creation of an enterprise.

Masih dalam pelatihan wirausaha, ada beberapa kendala  yang menjadi alasan ketika  ingin memulai usaha. Menurut Mba Nik,”Setidaknya ada delapan kendala yang membuat kita ragu untuk memulai sebuah usaha”. Berikut delapan alasan yang menjadi kendala, beserta tips untuk menyelesaikannya

1.      Tidak punya modal.

Solusinya adalah Gunakan modal non uang anda misalnya jika kita memiliki asset yang berharga sementara tidak produktif, maka asset tersebut dapat kita jual atau di gadaikan menjadi uang sehingga uang tersebut dapat sebagai modal awal kita dalam memulai sebuah usaha. Contoh asset yang tidak produktif seperti simpanan emas, kendaraan bermotor, televisi, atau segala bentuk perabot rumah yang fungsinya hanya sebagai assesoris namun masih memiliki nilai harga. Atau dapat juga menggunakan modal orang lain. Dalam menggunakan modal orang lain ada beberapa yang harus dibangun dan diperhatikan yaitu, jadilah orang yang jujur (dipercaya), dapat diandalkan, kompeten dibidang usaha yang akan dijalani, dan mau berkorban untuk orang lain.

2.      Tidak punya bakat.   

Bisnis tidak memerlukan bakat, yakinlah bahwa sukses adalah takdir semua orang. Kemauan membaja dapat mengatasi segala rintangan dan segala  hal dapat kita pejari. Betapa banyak pengusaha-pengusaha sukses yang mengawalinya dari nol atau tanpa bakat atau pegetahuan. Sehingga saat menjalani usahanya pengalaman menjadi guru yang sangat berharga.

3.      Tidak punya relasi.

Selamat anda sudah menemukan relasi bisnis anda. Tengoklah kesebalah kiri dan kanan anda, lihat kedepan dan belakang anda. Dirumah, dikendaran umum atau dimana saja anda bertemu orang yang ada disekitar anda merupakan calon-calon mitra atau pelanggan usaha anda. Bisa tetangga kita, teman sekolah atau sanak sanak family kita sendiri. Mereka adalah pelanggan potensial yang akan menjadi sasaran pengguna usaha kita.

4.      Tidak punya mentor atau pembimbing usaha.

Sebenarnya banyak dari pengusaha-pengusaha yang sudah sukses dapat menjadi mentor bagi ushawan pemula. Karena mereka menyadari banyak orang yang menjadi sukses karena bimbingan mereka merupakan investasi yang sangat besar dan pasti akan mendukung bisnis mereka.  

5.      Tidak berani ambil resiko.

Bertemanlah dengan orang-orang ”Gila”, berpikirlah seperti mereka, bertindaklah seperti mereka, baca buku-buku yang mereka baca, nongkrong bersama mereka, ikuti kegilaan mereka. Karena ide-ide ”Gila” kadang datang membawa sesuatu yang baru (Think out of the box).

6.      Bingung mau bisnis apa.

Segala hal dapat menjadi peluang bisnis. Koncinya adalah lihatlah masalah yang ada di sekitar masyarakat, masalah itu adalah peluang bisnis.

7.      Tidak mau keluar kerja.

ANDA PUNYA  4 PILIHAN Yaitu, pertama, Bekerja sampai pensiun dan hidup dengan standar yang tidak lebih tinggi dari sekarang. kedua. Eh, tiba-tiba anda di-PHK, kehilangan pendapatan, cari kerja lagi.  Anda kembali punya 4 pilihan seperti semula. ketiga, Berbisnis sambil Tetap Bekerja. keempat, Keluar kerja dan mulai berbisnis.

8.      Tidak punya skill bisnis.

Skill bisnis di dapat dengan praktek. Yang penting koncinya adalah pertama, Mulailah praktek bisnis. Kedua, Coba menjadi asongan. Ketiga, Buka bisnis dengan modal kecil.

Inilah delapan alasan yang dapat menjadi hambatan atau kendala ketika ingin memulai usaha. Semoga dengan solusi dan tips diatas dapat memberikan dorongan dan kemauan kita untuk menjadi wirausaha (entrepreuneur).

I had a wonderful conversation with my colleague today. A debatable topic of pursuing 2 different career: - business (as entrepreneur) vs. job (as employee). We discussed the issue of whether you want to stay working as an employee or going out venturing into business.

When it comes to business, the initiative of brainstorming ideas really brought my intention to the fullest. We’re not talking a stand-alone business, but more of interrelated or various business that can be ‘tied-up’ repackaged under one-roof. Example, instead of concentrating on futsal business, the auxiliary income also can come from introducing food business and car-wash in the same spot.

This multipurpose under one-roof business idea might seems too diversified and might require more than 110% effort in term of cash flow, manpower, facilities, etc. Yes it’s true, but entrepreneurial spirit does not end with one viable business. The art of going for a new challenge & testing entrepreneurial skills to the limit (of course with calculated risks) are some of the fundamental adrenalin lying inside any visionary entrepreneurs.

However, I’m not suggesting that future graduates go straight into business environment. The challenge and competition can be very fierce if you’re not adequately prepared for the worst. Of course one of the major obstacles is the financing part (i.e getting initial capital to start the business). The art of business start-up requires you to do diligent research right from the beginning. Variables such as market demand vs. supply, competition, available source of finance – all bundled under one business plan. It’s also vital for you to undergone training or seminars or courses offered relevant to your industry of business, as you’ll get an insight into the business from the experienced people who have / are venturing into the same path (but of course they can be your business angels / competitors / financing options, etc.), and also your knowledge of the business can grow and groom you with the necessary planning.

Meanwhile, working as an employee does not mean you’re forever not going to achieve your desired result. Of course there are pros & cons of being an entrepreneur in a business, so as being an employee of a company. One positive factor is while you’re working, you’re able to save some portion of your salary as your capital reserve to start-up your business in the future. Apart from this, some job scopes prepares you for future business needs as an entrepreneur (i.e negotiation, management, administration, etc.). While you continue doing your day job, at least you can try mastering all the necessary business skills by continuously reinvest in yourself by reading books & attending seminars relevant to it.

While the pros & cons vary according to industry, I can’t put a theory of argument in giving paradigm of ‘one size fits all’ concept. There are lots of points to be considered and this debate of business (as entrepreneur) vs. job (as employee) will never end. A sensible conclusion might be to have a deep thought, possible discussion with relevant parties, some analysis of self-competency (i.e SWOT – Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), and of course at least some sort of backup plan should things turn sour. Again, only my opinion . . . . .
