Can I say – I am glad John Edwards failed in his presidential bid. I am glad because his wreck less actions could’ve ruined the Democratic Party beyond repair. Imagine him campaigning all over the United States as a legit Presidential hopeful and his affair was unleashed in the press?

It would have been devastating and almost impossible to recover from. Its unfortunate many politicians believe they are above and beyond the law. As a consequence, they continue to do whatever they want not even thinking their actions will come to light one day.

Edwards’s actions have further lowered the little trust most Americans have in their politicians. I mean just the other day; New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was forced to resign because of his affair with high-end call girl, Ashley Alexandra Dupré.

It’s a sad day for politics when an allegedly squeaky clean politician has an affair, tries to cover it up and still believe he can run for the top job in the land.

Now I understand everyone is human and I should not judge. Nevertheless, Edwards was a public figure running to be the President of the United States. Proper discretion should have been exercised by him. He should have never run for president knowing he had such an explosive past.

What do you think about the issue?

I’ve written a few posts on infidelity in the past, most recently when Eliot Spitzer resigned

I've written a few posts on infidelity in the past, most recently when Eliot Spitzer resigned as governor of New York (where I live).

When Gov. Spitzer did his thing, the infidelity experts were out in full force. They are all out again regarding John Edwards waxing not so eloquently on the "PROBLEM." Saying fairly stupid things minute after minute. And there is a bit of discussion on one of the blog posts about it as well.

I cannot believe the statistics that a large portion of married people are cheating. I find that difficult to believe. Back in March, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, said that if a husband strays the wife is not doing something right, is not doing "her part." She said, "I would challenge the wife to find out what kind of wife she’s being,” she said. “Is she being supportive and approving and loving? Is she being sexually intimate and affectionate? Is she making him feel like he’s her man? If she’s not doing that, then she’s contributing to his wrong choice.” Do you hear that Elizabeth Edwards? Are you busy tending to your cancer and your children? Well, THAT'S why Johnny strayed. Simple.

WRONG. This is blaming someone else for your behavior. It also leaves open the question of "enough"....she could think she is being all those things but a cheater will rationalize it's not "enough" for him. Making statements like this just gives cheaters excuses. And there is NO excuse for cheating. Male or female. No excuse for cheating.

It's what my ex tried to do to me when he cheated. His infidelity was somehow MY fault. If I was only better, different, more he wouldn't cheat. And if I was 5 foot 8, I would have been a model (a Judge Judy line). If I had a crown, I'd be queen of England. If I only.... blah blah blah

If If If

If your mate is not "doing their part," then you have THREE OPTIONS. Count them: THREE. And 3 only!

You can accept it, change it or leave. Those are the 3 choices. Accept that is who the person is with all their shortcomings, or try to change what is bothering you through therapy or by talking to the person, or leave.

That's IT. Those are the three choices. No more and no less. THREE.

Let's review. The list is as follows: Accept it, change it, leave. That's the list.

NOTICE THAT CHEATING IS NOT ON THE LIST.

In other words, it's not an option in healthy relationships. I don't care who is doing what. If I suddenly became cold and distant to my husband and he thought, "HEY, she's not doing her part!"

how about this: "Honey, you seem cold and distant. Is something wrong?"

Or how about this: "Honey, do we need to see a therapist?" or even get tough and say, "Look, I don't like this. This either needs to change or I'm outta here."

and if nothing changes he can say "Okay, that's just the way it is. I'll learn to live with it because I don't feel like moving." or he can say: "I'm outta here."

Any of those work. He is entitled to deal with his dissatisfaction in any of those ways. Those are all his right to do.

NOT "Gee my wife seems cold and distant. I think I shall go out and screw someone's brains out because she is not doing her part."

WRONG. Remember: screwing someone's brains out is NOT on the list of options.

Dr. Laura also said that if a man cheats a woman hasn't been making him feel like a "hero." Okay, here's the thing: I never make my husband feel like a hero. You know why. Because he's a man, I'm a woman and we don't live in the comics. We live here, on Planet Earth, where Dr. Laura obviously hasn't visited in a while.

I love him, he loves me. We show it. Hero? I don't think so. That's a stupid word for your everyday "doing what you're supposed to do." You don't get credit, accolades or called a hero for doing what you're supposed to do. But you do get the company of other nice and trustworthy souls who do what they're supposed to do. And it's called "a nice life."

Rescue someone from a burning building? Hero.

Snatch someone off the tracks as the train is approaching? Hero.

Show up every day and love your spouse like you're supposed to. Not so much hero.

If I reversed it and said to him that he should treat me like a heroine otherwise he runs the risk of me cheating on him, he would laugh so hard he'd fall off the couch.

There's no heroism in showing up every day and doing what you're supposed to be doing. You treat your partner with love and respect. no one is on a pedestal and no one is wearing any capes.

Hero this. No cheating because someone doesn't treat you like a HERO, STUPID.

John Edwards said that being "important" as a presidential candidate made him feel narcissistic. It's supposed to make you feel the OPPOSITE. It's supposed to make you humble that you would even be considered to serve this great country. It's not supposed to make you feel like a hero. But wait, he already felt like a hero and he cheated anyway.

Hero theory out the window.

Being an "important person" who is high profile is a privilege and not a pass to screw around with someone. If the adulation has gone to your head, check your ego at the door. Loyalty is paramount. Not ego.

If someone at home doesn't treat you like a hero and you WANT to be treated like a hero, you have 3 choices.

Guess what they are?

There's Accept It. There's Change It. And there is LEAVE.

There is no "cheat on your spouse". That is NOT on the list.

There are people out there who will treat you differently, perhaps better, than you are being treated now. Maybe they're the one for you. If you meet them when you are otherwise committed, it's still not OKAY to test the waters just in case.

There are people out there who might be "the one" for you even if your spouse is a pretty nice person and you love him or her anyway (see Pitt, Brad). If you are with someone decent and someone better comes along, the solution is NOT to cheat on him or her, it's to either decide to stay or decide to go. Not to take a test drive with this other person before you buy the car and sell the old one. Test drives are NOT allowed when you are married or in a committed relationship. Test drives are also NOT ON THE LIST.

Revenge sex is also not on the list. Notice the list. No "revenge sex" on there. Someone cheats on you and you cheat on them. Gee, we're all happy NOW....eh?

Revenge sex is nonsense. Again, it's not on the list of options and really ups the odds on the old STD issue. Eh? Revenge sex...the gift that keeps on giving.

If these things are going on in a relationship then both partners have issues and they cannot be resolved by bringing a third-party into it.

I've also heard:
We're so attracted to each other, we just can't help it.

You are human beings, not dogs in heat. Make decisions, do the right thing, keep your side of the street clean. Stop making excuses for bad decisions. Both of you. Even if you are single and the other person is married, it's not okay.

Infidelity is an indication of a problem in the relationship and maybe in the cheating partner, not in the other partner. It's an indication that both people have some communication problems, some unfinished business, some very bad coping mechanisms, possibly sex addiction and codependency, and probably some other crap going on...but it doesn't mean that the cheater has a partner not performing up to snuff. NO NO NO.

If you're the cheating partner, figure out why you're doing what you're doing. AND STOP DOING IT.

Clean your side of the street. Get right with yourself. Make a decision to commit to your partner or leave.

Questions?

Our media is happy once more. They have their 24/7 political scandal. John Edwards has admit

Our media is happy once more. They have their 24/7 political scandal. John Edwards has admitted to having the affair that he previously denied having. Now, the story of Rielle Hunter is coming out. This story has everything – the good looking political hero who always seemed beyond reproach. The strong, loveable wife who is stricken with an incurable form of cancer. And now the ‘other woman’ who has led a questionable, adventuresome life.

Let me begin by saying that I was a huge supporter of the John Edwards candidacy having contributed to his campaign. I was angered by his decision to drop out after professing his commitment to take it to the convention.

This new revelation took me aback although one really can never be surprised by others indiscretions especially by those drawn to power or money. Just the mere fact that Edwards felt the calling to run for the presidency requires a certain, almost indescribable trait. Call it arrogance or ego or elitism.

“In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic.” - John Edwards on August 8, 2008

I stepped back for a couple of days to digest this story. All I knew was that I can not condone infidelity. I also believe that the private lives of couples – in the bedroom – belong in the that couple’s bedroom, which is one of the reasons I am a Democrat

Both he and Elizabeth have stated that he had informed her back in 2006 about the affair which occurred that same year. This was of course prior to his announcement that he was entering the 2008 presidential race. He had publicly denied the affair when it came out October, 2007. And now more than 6 months after he dropped out of the race, the truth comes out.

The issue of fidelity is a private matter and should never be of public concern – except when you take the time to point the finger elsewhere (which I will get to in a moment)

Does his infidelity make him any less passionate about the middle class, the poor, universal healthcare and the myriad of other issues that had me supporting him? Would his infidelity make him any less capable as an AG? Of course not – on both counts.

"If you want to beat me up — feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself." – Edwards in the same statement.

What bothers me is the double standard at play here. I am referring to the finger waving at the Democrats who get caught and the apologists’ response with the Republicans. So that is the direction my mind decided to go. The difference between Democrats and Republicans – when infidelity leaks to the press.

First – the most famous affair. Bill Clinton. I am not rehashing this one. I lived through this 24/7 (thank you cable news) as this droned on ad naseum. He actually got impeached over this lie. He lied about an affair while under oath. And because he lied to us? Really? Like I matter? Boy, were we faux offended – especially the Republicans – like Newt Gingrich and Larry Craig.

Former New York Governor and AG Eliot Spitzer got caught with a hooker. For that, Republicans and the media went ballistic. He was threatened with impeachment if he didn’t resign. Spitzer resigned over this and his political career is over. Current NY Governor David Paterson, during his opening press conference as Governor, announced to a shocked audience that he and his wife both had extra-marital affairs. I wonder if Edwards had admitted it back in 2006, if he would have even been able to run for president.

Hypocrisy rules the day: Let’s look at the Republicans in their glass houses.

Former Speaker of the House and current Fox News talking head Newt Gingrich won the hypocrite of the year award back in 1997 as he led the impeachment charge against President Clinton.

Gingrich’s first marriage was to his former high school geometry teacher, Jackie Battley. He informed her of the divorce while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery – while he was having an affair with the woman who would become his second wife, Marianne Ginther. The two were married months after the divorce.

But Gingrich’s story doesn’t end there. The Congressman who once ran on the slogan “Let Our Family Represent Your Family” had another affair, cheating on Marianne, while the Clinton impeachment was going on.

Here is Gingrich justifying the hypocrisy.

"The standard is: In a court of law should somebody who's popular get away with perjury? And I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept felonies and you cannot accept perjury in your highest officials."

Of course, the other famous impeachment hypocrite is Republican Senator Larry Craig. I’m not going to rehash this story either even though it was quite funny at the time. I loved watching this grown man standing in front of the microphone, wife standing behind him pleading with America that he is ‘not gay’ like by admitting that makes everything all right – like by admitting you are gay is just so atrocious. Just like Nixon: “I am not a crook.”

Could you imagine if he had said that he loves his wife but does occasionally give into his desires for men? Instead, he stood there like a teenage boy. “I am not gay,” as if that word was the worst thing imaginable. Yet this hypocrite is still in the Senate running for re-election. And yes, he is the same person who called President Clinton “a bad boy. A naughty boy. A nasty bad naughty boy.”

Which leads me to Republican David Vitter, whose name turned up on the phone records of the DC Madam. As a result, we got to see him speaking with his wife standing beside him. Yes, his wife was the same woman who chastised Hillary Clinton for standing beside her husband after his indiscretions were made public. Wendy Vitter made the following comment while discussing the resignation of former Louisiana House Speaker Bob Livingston. He had resigned after admitting to numerous affairs.

"I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary [Clinton]. If he does something like that, I'm walking away with one thing, and it's not alimony, trust me."

Vitter is still in the Senate and is still married to Wendy. It is so easy to cast stones at someone else.

Former New York Mayor and Republican candidate for President Rudy ‘9-11’ Guiliani has been married 3 times. Briefly, Giuliani started dating his second wife, Donna Hanover while still married to his first wife, Regina Peruggi in 1982. In 1997, Giuliani admitted an affair with his communications director. By 2000, he started his affair with Judith Nathan while still married.

I have never heard Giuliani point fingers at anyone else, but the Republicans and the media didn’t seem to mind Giuliani’s lifestyle during his run for the White House. Only the voters took issue with this one-dimensional candidate.

The other Democrat I came up with is former New Jersey mayor Jim McGreevey. He admitted publicly that he was gay, his wife standing next to him. He admitted to having an affair and then resigned. What I find interesting is – he resigned. Democrats admit to affairs – straight, gay or with a prostitute and they resign or get subjected to moral outrage. Republicans, after they are caught – whether they deny or admit – refuse to resign and defiantly stay in office and still run for re-election. These are also the same ones who are offended by others indiscretions. I have a difficult time with this logic.

The name I’ve saved for last is presumptive Republican (surprise) nominee John McCain. I wonder if we’ll be hearing more details of this story. McCain and his first wife, Carol were married prior to his capture. While a POW, Carol was involved in an automobile accident which left her disabled. McCain was having an affair with Cindy prior to his divorce from Carol.

There was also a leak (similar to the October 2007 Edwards leak) involving McCain and a lobbyist. It came out in February and like the October Edwards story was talked about for a couple of days and then forgotten.

The issue here isn’t John Edwards, the former one-term Senator. This story hands the media their salacious story during this boring part of the campaign and it give the 'right' something to scream about and something to deflect our attention from their weak presidential candidate and the political pendulum that is swinging away.

But the real issue is the hypocrisy of the Republican right. The Democrats are asking ‘how is the Edwards affair different from McCain.’ That is a very interesting question. If the McCain affair gains traction with the media, watch the Republicans moral outrage rise.

Let me conclude by saying that I detest these types of stories. I wrote about it because of my admiration of both John and Elizabeth. I also wanted to bring light to the obvious Republican hypocrisy. I am not judging any of these people or saying that one is worse than another. I am identifying and criticizing the hypocrisy of the reaction.

Good job, Edwards! I look forward to your speech at the Democratic Convention. You know, if you're still invited.

-->For all you Sex and the City fans, here are articles about the effect Carrie Bradshaw has had on real life journalism and the prevalence of labels & branding in the Sex and the City movie.

1) I absolutely detest public speaking. Seriously, it’s one of my worst fears. If you were to

1) I absolutely detest public speaking. Seriously, it's one of my worst fears. If you were to give me a choice between being covered in spiders (I suffer from a severe case of arachnophobia as well) and giving a speech in front of thousands of people at a rally, I would probably choose... well, to jump off a cliff. And if, somehow, someone managed to trick me into speaking at some sort of event, I would just make an idiot of myself, so no one would vote for me anyways and all of that trauma would be for nothing.

2) I hate touching people. Yeah, if you take that in a perverted way, it might sound like it would be to my advantage if I were to run for office (are you reading this, Eliot Spitzer?). But I mean, politicians are all about hugging people and kissing babies and shaking hands. They touch thousands of people over the course of a campaign. Thousands of strangers! I don't understand how they do it. Do their Armani suits secretly serve as shields from various hazardous substances? I mean, really! They don't know where these people have been! They don't know when these people have last showered, or if they wash their hands after using the toilet! It's absolutely disgusting. I'd have to wear a surgical mask and a biohazard suit on the campaign trail.

3) I don't really like small children. This brings me back to the whole kissing babies thing. It's like an occupational hazard for politicians. If some mommy wants you to say 'hi' to little baby Snot 'n Spit, you can't just say no and keep walking, or you'll look like an ass. But if you suck it up and do the whole "oh how cute, you can be my running mate in 35 years" thing, chances are, you'll walk away with a nice pile of spit-up on your shoulder. It might be a lovely photo op at the time, but it ruins any further photographs you take immediately following it.

4) I can't keep my mouth shut when I probably should. I have yet to master the elusive concept of discretion. If I have an opinion, generally speaking, I'm going to let you know, even when it comes to the most trivial things. Especially when it contradicts yours. Not the best move when it comes to diplomacy.

5) I have a bit of a superiority complex. Yeah, I'm the first to admit it. But it still ruins my chances of being successful in politics. I would never be able to compromise effectively with people. If I think something's right, I'm generally pretty sure it is. I'm also usually pretty well convinced that anything anyone else comes up with isn't much worth listening to. Not a good strategy for a campaign, and not good when it comes to foreign policy - or anything else, for that matter. I mean, that's probably how America got into the mess we're in right now. Except I do have confidence that I'd make at least slightly better decisions than good ol' George Dubya. But that, I suppose, is a matter of opinion.

6) I have no experience whatsoever. You think Barack Obama's inexperienced when it comes to foreign policy? Wait until you see how much I know. (Hint: Not a whole lot.)

7) I'm lazy. No way would I get up at 3 a.m. to answer that damn phone Hillary Clinton was always talking about. I don't care if Vladimir Putin has taken over Europe, or if Mao Zedong has risen from the dead and is bringing a second Cultural Revolution to Los Angeles - it can wait until 10:30 or so in the morning. After all, I couldn't effectively lead the free world with nasty dark circles under my eyes. And I'm pretty grouchy when I don't a good night's sleep.

8) I'm female. My raging hormones could prompt me to start a nuclear war with Iran, so you might want to avoid voting for me, just to be safe. Plus, don't I belong at home, making pies and darning socks?

Well, those are eight of the reasons I'd suck as a politician. I'm sure there are a whole bunch more, but as this is going to break 700 words, I probably ought to stop here. Plus, I think it might be getting close to time to take my medication. Yes, more medication - I woke up this morning with a new rash. So I found myself at the doctor's office yet again. Turns out, it's strep - more specifically, scarlet fever, although I don't have a fever. Or any other symptoms, for that matter. Whatever. In any case, I now have to take enormous amoxicillin pills. Fantastic.

Well, after years of denial, it appears the one time poster boy for the Liberal Leftest Party has another member in the Can't Keep It In the Pants Party". None other than the little ambulance chaser from N.C. John Edwards.

Oh how Edwards must have aspired to keep up with Slick Willie Clinton with his multiple indiscreation of Whitewater to Travelgate to Filegate to the Monica Lewinsky trist.

And 1968 was a good year for Dem. Gary Hart and his lovely slut Donna Rice. Ah, 68, not as good as 69, but close.

And wasn't there another one, John somebody and a Gov. from NY, Eliot Spitzer Not to mention His Highness JFK and his Court Jester Bobby and let us not forget, leave-em-in the river Teddy Kennedy. Must be something in the Democratic Parties gene, or is that something out of the Democratic Jeans?

And let us not forget Mr. Bigot, Strom Thurmnond who boosted the battle cry of "segregation". And who among us will everforg his sturring words, "I wanna tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that there's not enough troops in the army to force the Southern people to break down segregation and admit the nigra race into our theaters, into our swimming pools, into our homes, and into our churches." Wonder how the Jim Crow tastes in hell?

And the Re-pubic party isn't without their fair share of worthless trash. Remember Sen. Trent Lott? And of course, my favoriate, "I'm not a crook", Tricky Dickie!

Isn't it amazing how all this "high and mighty, semi-royal persons have such low life traits. And how the can so vehemently deny any wrong doing, i.e. lie to the American peasant class for years, only to be forced out from under their rock of lies. Shame on you Edwards. Shame on the way you treated your wife who you used so craftily during your campaign. Playing on the sympathy vote.

You Sir, should be tied with a rope around the neck to a mill stone and tossed into the abyss. What a bastard you are. A lieing bastard at that.

From an ABC news report, "Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife's cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter. Elizabeth Edwards has since been diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease."

It is further reported, "When the National Enquirer first reported the alleged Edwards-Hunter affair last October 11, Edwards, his campaign staff and Hunter vociferously denounced the report.

"The story is false, it's completely untrue, it's ridiculous," Edwards told reporters then.

He repeated his denials just two weeks ago." Now I ask you folks, how the hell can you believe anything that comes out of the slimy mouth of a politician. Nothing but lies about what they have done, and what they are going to do for us. All lies. That all a politician is now-a-day. A publicity whore who spouts nothing but falsehoods. Make me sick.

For some reason, we Americans have such a short memory. We let politicians make all sorts of promises that we know they will never keep. We seem shocked when they get embroiled in affairs and corruption. And yet, we keep re-electing them. How strange. It seems that we just loved to get screwed, then turn around and ask for another.

I say, it is time for a full cleaning of the whole sorry bunch of these bastards. If they are in office, kick them the hell out.

As if you needed any reasons, but nevertheless here they are:

10. They are ridiculously low-class -

As if you needed any reasons, but nevertheless here they are:

10. They are ridiculously low-class - it seems ironic that a bunch of girls that look like spoiled brats are sold by mail through late-night infomercials. You spent enough money on Gucci sunglasses and Prada shoes, so don't you think you deserve an audience of a higher pedigree, ladies? Girls say it's their "15 minutes of fame," so I'd think they'd make it worth it.
*By the way, it’s not 15 minutes honey. This is your fame forever. Relish in it, along with all the men (your ex-boyfriend, or your boss, maybe your father) who may be as well. And can anyone give me the name of a successful showbiz woman who got her start in the soft-core porn bar videos? Ashley DuPre does not count as successful.

9. Serious lack of individual style - the fact that they are all clones of each other simply increases my distaste for them. If I was going to get drunk and strip, I would at least do it in style.

8. They disappoint even the lowest of men - the corporation's mogul (and the face of arrogance), Mr. Joe Francis himself wants innocent girls next door, but instead gets slutty tramps looking for a moment in front of a camera. And sadly, I have to agree with him. As one girl puts it, "I'm ready and willing, and I'm a dirty slut." As if we needed any confirmation.

7. They failed American History - supposedly the whole franchise is just some passionate movement to embrace the freedom of First Amendment. Way to go ladies, you really embody the spirit of America.
*And remember, judges will just shut down your lawsuits against Girls Gone Wild for capturing what you do in public - that's part of the same First Amendment that allows your flashes of nudity.

6. They are not even getting paid - I have a lot more respect for strippers and prostitutes who are at least making a buck instead of gratuitously showing their naughty bits the world over, and on tape nonetheless. If you think about the money that the corporation is making, these girls could at least salvage some dignity by demanding compensation.
*NOTE: T-shirts, booty shorts, trucker hats, Mardi Gras beads, or even panties do NOT count as compensation.

5. They are giving a bad name to drunks everywhere - instead of taking their clothes off when they get plastered, they should be belligerently yelling at people, like any self-respecting binge drinker.

4. They idolize a criminal industry - and we aren't just talking public indecency. Joe Francis and co. have been accused of money laundering, tax evasion, racketeering, not to mention sexual assault, child pornography, and you guessed it, rape. If I saw Mr. Girls Gone Wild, I would throw him my haymaker and stab him with my stiletto, not fawn over him like a smitten schoolgirl gone wrong.

3. They completely embarrass the feminist cause - not to mention any self-respecting woman. I totally encourage women owning their sexuality and all, but taking your clothes off and rubbing your best friend's twat in front of Joe's crews is most definitely not what Gloria Steinem (a respectable babe herself) had in mind for the sexual revolution.

2. They are just plain dumb - as one girl explains her motives for baring her breasts to appease the chants of young men, "Everybody wants to be famous in some way. Getting famous will get me anything I want. If I walk into somebody's house and said, 'Give me this,' I could have it." Just goes to show that almost anyone get into college.
*To any future GGW - this is just not how it works.

1. They are the backbone of Joe Francis' success - both financial and sexual.

Ew.
Enough said.

[caption id="attachment_471" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Who wouldn't want this?"][/caption]

Anyone have any additions?

Read the horrifying article I found while researching this post. I plan to write more on it later, but I have to wait until my stomach settles from the nausea it just produced.

Disclaimer: I honestly hate to throw the word "slut" around, and I fully believe that men (most especially Joe Francis) who endorse this sort of behavior are despicable. The girls are taken advantage of while intoxicated, but that can only be taken so far before they have to be held accountable for their actions. A woman can have sex with thousands of men and not be a slut in my opinion, but once she has rubbed her clit for the world of Girls Gone Wild, then she has embraced my definition of the word.

For a couple of guys who promised to "clean up Albany," both ex-Governor Eliot Spitzer and Albany County DA David Soares fell far short of the mark. The 8500+ pages of interviews, emails, and other documents from Soares' "investigation" of the Trooper-gate scandal show exactly how Soares and his office bent over backwards to assist and white wash what Spitzer and his top aides did. How this is supposed to be "better" than what previously went on in Albany is lost on me.

Spitzer is likely to be facing charges from this, not from the DA, who may also face ethics charges, but from the Public Integrity Commission, which has already charged several former Spitzer aides in the scandal. The Commission has already taken copies of those documents to review for further charges. The real intersting bits are from former SP Superintendent Preston Felton (who apparently was pissed off about the leak), and the internal emails about making statements "perjury proof," and that there was a concerted effort to damage Bruno through potentially illegal means.

Of course, according to Eliot Spitzer, laws are for little people, those with out power. He certainly acted that way. Laws applied to others, not him. If one bothers to look, one can see that this was a clear trend, and attitude, dating back to his assistant DA days in NYC. He thought he was immune to any sort of legal action. He was the "Sheriff of Wall Street" after all.

Soares is just a chump. He tried to distract attention away from local issues, from the Spitzer scandal to local crime issues, through his Steroid investigation, which garnered him a lot of national, and even international attention. He wants the limelight, to be a news figure, but not actually do the job he was elected to do. He needed the support of the ex-Governor to maintain his position, thorugh political and fund raising contacts, so he bent over for Spitzer to help try and diffuse and white wash the Trooper-gate scandal.

Spitzer's inaugural address had the line "On day one, everything changes." He was right, just not in the way he intended. His fiefdom was destroyed in a little over four days. His opponents sailed off into the sunset, holding thier heads up high. He's still slinking off, avoiding everyone.

After that digression (not the last, rest assured) about books in general, back to the book. I still haven't introduced my main characters--Hannibal, Fabius and Scipio--but instead I've given two examples, Steve Jobs and J.K. Rowling, of failure being an impostor. Let me now give you an example of Kipling's other impostor, triumph--because the book is emphatically about both impostors, just as a book about night must also be about day.

The immediate and obvious category that jumps to mind is hubris, the theme that so fascinated the ancient Greeks. Hubris is that arrogance which brings down the successful and powerful, from Xerxes the Persian to Ken Lay of Enron or Eliot Spitzer or ... take your pick. So, because it's so obvious, let's not take an example of hubris. Instead, let's take a more subtle example: The Nobel Prize.

Paul Samuelson is an economist who won that prize, in 1970, and who, thirty-one years later, reflected on the institution. Alfred Nobel, a Swedish chemist and inventor, had established the prize in 1895 to recognize the best work done in a given field and thereby to "subsidize and support the young winner's research efforts for the rest of his life." By rewarding success, in other words, the prize was meant to create even more success.

Instead, says Samuelson (emphasis is mine):

the reverse of Nobel's wish is what actually happens. After winners receive the award and adulation, they wither away into vainglorious sterility. More than that, they become pontificating windbags, preaching to the world on ethics and futorology, politics and philosophy. At circular tables, where they sit they believe to be the head of the table...

Breaking it down another level of nuance, Samuelson goes on:

An acquaintance of mine in biology regarded his Nobel year as the worst one in his life. Being a research wet-lab worker, he hated the press interviews and hoopla. Others I've known have gloried in it: so to speak they sported their bauble on the January subway. One wife of a physical scientist attributed her divorce to the Nobel Prize. (Her spouse has not recorded his opinion.) ...

Not to get too deep about this, but can we agree with Samuelson that the Nobel Prize is a) a personal triumph for its recipients and b) probably, if not certainly, an impostor? For today, I just leave you with this delightful phrase: pontificating windbags. Ever met any?

The married father of two who was spotted shame-walking out of an NYC hotel with the world's most famous hooker says Ashley Dupre set him up.

And get this: TJ Earle, according to the New York Post, says his wife actually believes his story. (Gullible, party of one?) TJ claims that Ashley was "flirting" with him at a restaurant, and then they just happened to end up in the same hotel room ... overnight. A hotel room, the Post adds, where Earle and his wife had spent their anniversaries.

"I think [Dupre's] getting off on being a homewrecker," says a source.

Well, the politial hoopla never seems to end, does it?

On the national scene, we have the NYT showing again how biased it really is, rejecting a counter point Op-Ed by John McCain to one published by the Times from Barack Obama. It's not the rejection itself that's a problem, we should expect this sort of nonsense, but the rationale as to why it was rejected. "It (McCain's piece) should 'mirror' Barack Obama's." Eh? "Mirror Barack Obama's?" Essentially, what the Times was asking of McCain, was to effectively parrot Obama's Iraq position, and the position they endorse. Ideological hegemony, NYT style.

Then there's Obama's "Triumph of the Will" speach in Germany. Does no one else see the similarities between Obama's speaches and Hitler's Nuremburg rallies? No, I'm not comparing Obama to Adolf, that's just absurd. But it that sort of personal charisma, and people swooning because he sounds good that should worry people. There's sound and fury, but no subatance people. It scares me to see how eailly swayed and at time guillible the American people are.

In the State of NY, some things just aren't going away. Remember Trooper-Gate? Well, four Spitzer appointees are under charge from the Public Integrity Commission. Two have already cut deals, while former Pressman Darren Dopp, and former State Police Suprintendent Felton Spencer are fighting the charges (sort of). It may be a matter of time before criminal charges are filed against Dopp, and possibly others in their role in the use of State Police for political puroses, then leaking confidential information to the press. Of course, the shiftless Times-Union will not even face a whiff of charges over thier role in this. Typical.

These charges come on the heels of Joe Bruno's retirement from the NYS Senate to take a private sector job. Joe walked away first from re-election, then from the Senate entirely. The fact was he was burned out from the politics, and the personal vendettas and vitriol thrown at him, compounded by the death of his wife. But even once he had sailed off inot the sunset, he still can't escape the Spitzer dirty tricks scandal.

On an even more local level, Mike Conners (Albany Co. Comptroller), released a scathing report on the financial practices of the Albany County DA's office. The focus revolved around the petty cash fund of the DA's office, and the lax practices involving it. Naturally David Soares (Albany County DA) was upset at some of the accustaions. But Soares is already in trouble, from his lack of attention to local criminal investigations, preferring the national spotlight, and his bungling of the Spitzer Trooper-gate scandal. If an even mediocre challenger to his post arose, he'd be bounced from office.

“U.S. CABLE NEWS NETWORK TORTURES” - BRITISH OFFICIAL
LONDON & WASHINGTON - 21 July 2008 -

“U.S. CABLE NEWS NETWORK TORTURES” - BRITISH OFFICIAL

LONDON & WASHINGTON - 21 July 2008 - Britain should no longer rely on assurances by the United States that FOX NEWS does not torture its viewers, an influential parliamentary committee said in a report released Sunday.

Britain had previously taken those assurances at face value, but after the CIA acknowledged FOX NEWS hires only screeching women with brothel madam - or even $1,000 Eliot Spitzer hooker - hair as newscasters, Britain should change its stance, according to the report, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons.

The foreign secretary, David Miliband, told Parliament in April that the technique, in which the women scream at full volume about things they know nothing about, amounted to torture.

“Given the clear differences in definition, the U.K. can no longer rely on U.S. assurances that FOX NEWS does not use torture, and we recommend that the government does not rely on such assurances in the future,” the report said.

A story I read in today’s edition of the New York Post was basically a step-by-step primer on a gr

A story I read in today’s edition of the New York Post was basically a step-by-step primer on a great way to get caught cheating on your wife, so I thought I’d share it with everyone. Information, after all, is a valuable tool.

First off, you don’t want to pick just any woman to cheat with. Why would you want to go and do something silly like that? No, you want to pick a woman who’s instantly recognizable to reporters, photographers and just about anyone who’s been near a television or newspaper since former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer added the “former” to his description. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: Ashley Dupre. Her “friends” call her Kristen. And she addresses her friends by client number. Sadly, 9 is already taken.

Second, you don’t pick just any old place to hook up. If you’re going to go for it, you might as well go for the gusto. So be sure to pick a well-known Manhattan hotel where Lindsay Lohan and her lesbian lover, Samantha Ronson, are staying. There will be plenty of press and paparazzi there.

Finally, be sure your wife doesn’t find out from the nosy neighborhood yenta. Get with the program. This is the information age. A story in the New York Post that will spread via e-mail faster than the old Nigerian bank scam is the way to go.

So what was T.J. Earle thinking? I mean, seriously? Was he trying to get caught? The guy is the vice president of a major construction company, and he’s putting himself in a position to lose half of his shit? I don’t want to lose half of my shit, and I’m sure half of my shit is about half of a percent of half of his shit.

Stupidity is alive and well.

Amber Arpaio claims Ashley Dupre used her license to appear on "Girls Gone Wild"

NEWARK, New Jersey (AP) A woman has sued the call girl linked to the downfall of New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, claiming Ashley Dupre used her lost driver's license to appear on a "Girls Gone Wild" video.

A federal lawsuit filed this month by Amber Arpaio seeks unspecified monetary compensation for defamation and invasion of privacy.

Dupre has said she was only 17 when she signed a contract to appear in the "Girls Gone Wild" video.

The video displays a New Jersey driver's license in the name of Amber Arpaio and a birth date that would have made her appear to be in her 20s.

Arpaio, 26, of Sussex County, cannot recall where she lost the license and doesn't know Dupre, although the women have similar faces, said Arpaio's lawyer, Joseph J. Fell.

"Somehow, Ashley Dupre got ahold of the license and had it for some period of time," Fell said Thursday.

Arpaio also sued "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joseph Francis.

Lawyers for Francis and Dupre had no immediate comment. Dupre's publicist did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Earlier this month, Dupre dropped her own lawsuit against Francis. She had claimed her name and image were exploited.

Dupre made news in March when she was identified as a high-priced call girl in the Emperors Club VIP prostitution ring whose client list included Spitzer, who resigned soon after the scandal broke.

The lawsuit by Arpaio was filed in U.S. District Court in Trenton on July 11 and reported Thursday in The Star-Ledger of Newark.
