Da ich nun seit einer Woche endlich dieses außergewöhnliche Album besitze, ist eine kurze Rezension längst überfällig. Ohne weitere große Worte zu verlieren, kühre ich Throne Of The Depths zum persönlichen Black Metal Album des Jahres, auch wenn das Album bereits letztes Jahr erschienen ist.

In weniger als einer Stunde zieht Throne Of The Depths den Hörer in einen chaotischen und gleichsam hymnischen Strom zahlreicher Black Metal Spielarten und Stilrichtungen, die homogen kombiniert und in ihren Grenzen ausgereizt werden. Der Opener "Zum Haff hinaus..." bereitet die Bühne für einen heidnischen Epos über die Ewigkeit des Meeres und der darin lebenden Gottheiten, bis mit Blót ein Reigen brutaler Riffs über den verwirrten Hörer herüberfällt. Dieser wird jedoch melodisch mit gigantischer Keyboarduntermalung in die Sphären eines von Blastbeats unterlegten Kinotracks gehoben, nur um in weiteren Riffsalven zu münden. Und so bäumt sich Throne Of The Depths auf wie die stürmische See, die nie zur Ruhe kommt und ständig tödliche Gefahren in sich birgt, bis sie in sich zusammenfällt, um ruhig vor sich hinzurauschen, wie in dem traurigen Intermezzo "Sævar niðr". Gerade zum Ende lassen es Drautran nochmals richtig krachen und verarbeiten in "Dusk of the Fimbulwinter" eines der traurigsten Filmzitate, die existieren.
Unglaublich episch, brutal und einzigartig!
