Hier das Ergebniss eines Selbstversuchs:

Die Dose ist in blau und rot gehalten, nichts besonderes aber das Design lässt sich immer als Red Bull wieder erkennen. In den Blechhebel zum Öffnen der Dose ist ein Stier eingestanzt.

Nun öffnen wir mal die Dose - riecht erst mal nicht so chemisch wie der Red Bull Energydrink. Vielleicht kommt es daher das die Cola "strong and natural" sein soll. Laut Dosenaufdruck enthält der Inhalt keine Phosphorsäure, keine Konservierunsstoffe und weder künstliche Aromen noch künstliche Farbstoffe. Dafür ist ne Menge an Gewürzen drin: Zimt, Vanille, Kolanuss, Ingwer, Muskat und Kardamom.

Der Geschmackstest bringt mich nicht zum Jubeln. Es schmeckt eher wie eine Vita-Cola, die Cola mit Zitrone, die zumindest im Osten Deutschlands sehr bekannt sein dürfte. Die Red Bull Cola hinterlässt einen Geschmack im Mund der schwer zu beschreiben ist, erinnert an eine Mischung aus Coke Zero und Dr. Pepper.

Der Koffeingehalt scheint eher niedrig zu sein, auf Jedenfall merkte ich keinerlei Wirkung.

Mein Fazit: Nichts was ich nochmal trinken müsste - Vita-Cola schmeckt besser und hinterlässt nicht so einen komischen Nachgeschmack. Ansonsten bleibe ich bei Afri-Cola und Coke.

Gray - who is apparently just one-friend shy of the perfect bridal party -  is planning to launch a web site to help her find that missing bridesmaid -- or provide a surprise guest for the slot.
And by 'surprise guest' we bet she means 'performer' -- she's can check off 'free entertainment' on her list too.

All I can say about a woman willing to shill her own wedding is ... watch OUT when the bitch decides to breed!

1. Mr. T air freshener. It had this weird smell, maybe an off-lemon. You can't have Mr. T smelling like baby powder!

2. Free sample of Leggs pantyhose, addressed to ME. Because you know, Keith is a name given to both boys and girls. Gender neutral! And Mom said I was named after Keith Partridge, who kind of looked like a girl (it was the 70s), so it all starts to make sense.

I built this Wall of Absurdity underneath my Terminator 2 poster, which previously had been a Samantha Fox poster, back in the late 80s, when she had somewhat of a pop career, long before she'd come out pitching for the other team--which would have made her a HUGE star, if you catch my drift. ;)

But then I became a "grown-up" and I couldn't just put posters of supermodels or future California governors on my walls anymore. A Wall of Absurdity would wreck the sophistication of my bachelor pad, so I put up framed posters of Indiana Jones, second hand art rescued from offices. Though I still have Mr. T hanging off my framed, autographed picture of Eric Johnson, Guitar God kickin' it with Pop Culture God.

Then something happened over the past thirteen or so years...we got the internet. A whole new level of absurdity to be explored. But let's bypass all that and talk about Myspace. Social networking, add all your friends into one big folder and...call them on the phone instead. Or reconnect with childhood friends once, long enough to put them into your friends list and forget about them (come on, what do you talk about with your childhood friend? * Dungeons & Dragons? Commodore 64 games?) Or post forgettable bulletins like, "Hey, I'm going to bed." like my guitar students have done--they're my friends too, except it makes me want to teach them guitar wrong for fun when my bulletin board is packed with inane comments like, "Hey--pass this bulletin on to twenty other friends or you'll never get laid!" when the student who posted it is something like 12 years old.

Social networking. It's how you can bring your talents to a greater audience and find fame and fortune--or at least get a lot of hits. I have a site promoting all my stuff, teenagers can post pictures of all their debauchery behind their parent's backs and McDonald's wants to be your friend! More specifically, they want you to write their new Big Mac jingle so they can pay you a fraction of the cost they'd have to fork out for a pro composer. But look out--they ain't just going to hand over a shot at stardom. You have to compete with Christina Milian. Who's that? Heck if I know, but she's cute and she sings the Big Mac theme on the Mickey D's Myspace page.

How did I find out about this? From a tv commercial, where I caught a glimpse of the address at the very end. I thought, "Who the heck would want to ask McDonald's to be their friend?" Uh...3657 people at this point, people who could be better investing their time listening to MY music! But I can't even afford to buy them lunch at McDonald's.

But I read the book Fast Food Nation, so I can't be friends with McDonald's. They're evil! I want to be friends with Dr. Pepper! Go to their site and you find...Indiana Jones? Advertisement, shameless crosspromo for the drink and movie, though I don't recall Indy cracking his whip and drinking a shot of high fructose corn syrup. Don't mess with Dr. Pepper, man, because they have 30,350 friends. The comments page makes you wonder if it's 30,350 Dr. Pepper employees, as they're all posts about how amazing the drink is. The soda's a drug! You drink it and fall under a trance, "I love Dr. Pepper...must add them to Myspace friends."

Maybe I'll add them as my friend and they can check out my amazing cover of Nirvana's "Come As You Are". that's on iTunes. Social networking could score me a jingle deal.

(What...only big corporations can make feeble advertising attempts?)

But who wants to worship Dr Pepper when you can worship Bennigans? You can watch a leprachaun beat up inflatable animals with nunchucks. What does this have to do with eating at Bennigans? I don't know, but I'd be scare to eat at the restaurant right now, considering all the little folks and Irish likely picketing the front entrance.

I could research these all day, but I just went to the Coldstone Myspace page and I'm feeling one of those sugar cravings.

*One of my best friends since second grade still lives in Novato and we still keep in touch. But I don't think he has a Myspace page. Or if he does he's never invited me. Jerk!

Now, it has come to my attention that the makers of Dr. Pepper do make a caffeine-free version, but I haven't got a clue where in this country it is sold.  If anyone has even seen caffeine-free Dr. Pepper in the Chicagoland area (or Raleigh for that matter) let me know. 

It's only every once-in-a-while that I really start craving the tasty stuff, and right now is one of my weak moments. I'd love to have a nice cold one! Alas, I think my head and/or heart may explode if I had caffeine after so long without.

Oh well, dear friend. We may be reunited some day. . .

Alright, I’m back in the mix after a little vacation. Had a short week to work with, but I think I’ve got some good stuff. Let me know what you think…

Good thing of the week: Dr. Pepper

I don’t know if its just me, but Dr. Pepper has been supporting music a lot these days. I mean, yeah…Pepsi has its thing, but I’m really opening my eyes to the new ideas that Dr. Pepper has been trying. It gives them excellent promotion, but it also helps to give musicians promotion too.  They just finished that whole “Band in the Bubble” stunt with the band Cartel. They’ve done various ad promotions with high profile musicians. And now, they’ve really done it. I read a headline today…it went something like this - “Dr Pepper Will Give Everyone* in America a Free Soda If Axl Rose Releases New Guns N’ Roses Album, Chinese Democracy, In 2008″ …now you may notice the “star” after “Everyone” it is stated that everyone in America will recieve a Dr. Pepper, EXCEPT Slash and Buckethead. I guess Dr. Pepper is pissed they quit GnR. If anyone has not heard of the legendary Chinese Democracy album, it is the album Axl has been working on for something like 17 years. Each year it is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and each year Axl holds it back. I think we were close to gettin it in 2007 - even had an approximate date. I think it is about time that something lit a fire under Rose’s @$$ to get this thing released. I’m tired of the speculation as to whether it will be the most amazing album of all time or the biggest dissapointment ever. Chinese Democracy - “Just what the Dr. ordered”

Bad thing of the week: Lack of Dead-Legends-for-our-generation

Heath Ledger died. This is widely regarded as a bad thing. But, on the other hand, now he gets to be forever a legend - right along side James Dean and Brandon Lee.  This is something few think of right when a young artist dies…he/she will now not have the opportunity to throw away their careers, sell-out, or burn-out. Think of the musicians, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison. They all died at 27 back at the end of the 60’s, they are forever regarded as some of the best musicians of their time. Bassist Cliff Burton died after a tragic bus accident, his years with Metallica are regarded as some of the best in all metal. Since his death, Metallica has been deemed sellouts. Nirvana and Sublime were good bands in the 90’s, then their front-men died - they became legendary bands. This brings me to my point. We have been seriously lacking in “Legends” for our generation. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t condone death by suicide, drug over dose, or drive-by. But I worry that music of our time will not be looked at as highly because no one has “died before their time”. Pete Wentz, of Fallout Boy, recently came out confessing his suicide attempt. I found it to be pretentious. What, are you crying out for more attention? Is Ashlee not giving you enough? You need people to feel sorry for you now? Said Wentz - “I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ and sat there and took a bunch of Ativan in a Best Buy parking lot.” First off, do you think you’re cool because you dropped Jeff Buckley’s name? Name a different song of his and I might have been impressed. “Eternal Life” - that would have been ironic. Second, you failed at suicide!! You were so close to making Fallout Boy into a legendary band, now that would be quite a feat.

It was fun while it lasted but this may be the end of the period it has taken for GNR to finally get the legendary Chinese Democracy to the street... legally. Nine finished songs were posted online at the blog antiquiet.com. Six songs had already been making the rounds on the internet, though unfinished. Three new songs: Rhiad and the Bedouins, If the World, and some no-namer, were the real surprises.

That is a hint that it is ready to go. But you never know.

Just think, if Chinese is released this year, you may get a free Dr. Pepper. Earlier this year, Dr Pepper stated that every American would get a free drink if GNR actually released Chinese in 2008. I find this more interesting than the actual release of the album. Plus, I like free things, especially well-caffeinated soda. I'll get the album and be a Pepper, too.

*Off topic: Apparently, the city in which I attended high school is the best place to live in the country. If that's the case, though, why am I so bald?

FRIENDS AND FAMILY: First of all, I just have to say that I have the greatest family and friends a girl could ask for. They are SO caring, selfless, intelligent, talented, beautiful, and gosh darn AMAZING. They keep me sane and in check when needed. See how important they are, especially for the sake of society?

PIZZA: The food of the gods. That's why I eat it. Just kidding. Alright, I know. "That was lame, Tams." I get it. But I really don't know what to write for this. It's pretty self-explanatory. Who doesn't love pizza? My personal favorite is Papa John's Pepperoni, Original Crust thank you! Yum, heavenly.

ICE CREAM: My FAVORITE food in the whole wide world. Most specifically, Cookie's N Cream just in case you wanted to make a note of it but whatev... :) I wonder how ice cream was invented. I mean who thought of such a strange creation. Let's try to churn and freeze various dairy products and see what we get. Anyway, I eat this stuff like everyday. I'm addicted...I mean, no, I'm not...

CONVERSE: By far the best shoes in the world. Looks good on girls, boys, emos, and everybody else! Have you ever seen such a versatile shoe in your life? I don't think so!

YOUTUBE: So if you know me, you know that I work the desk a lot in my job. When I'm not saving the world, I like to often surf the YouTube scene at work. You'd be surprised how many boring hours you can pass by on this website. Here are a few of my favorite videos:

BLUE PENS: When I'm busy listening intently to my professors (...or drooling on my textbook) outside my life of crime-fighting, I like to take notes using blue pens. Pencils are too light and hard for the eyes to read. Plus, erasing is for the weak. Black pens are just not distinguished or prominent enough. They practically blend in most of the time. Red pens are too dramatic, slutty even. So yes, blue pens are PERFECT for someone as magnificent as me. (Yeah I said it, what are you going to do about it?)

BURTS BEES: Greatest chapstick ever. Leaves your lips feeling tingly and fresh. Tastes kind of good. It's also really easy to find in giant purses or under car seats due to the eye-blinding yellow of the case.

DR. PEPPER: I love this soda...almost too much. I tried to give up soda, but this sneaky little fellow keeps me from accomplishing my goal. I don't care what anyone else thinks (because I'm right), Dr. Pepper is the bomb! All I want to know is who the heck is "Dr. Pepper?"

Use a regular cake mix such as Duncan Hines, Pillsbury, or Betty Crocker.  I used Duncan Hines. Mix the batter according to the directions on the back of the box, however DO NOT add the water like it says. Replace the water with the Hawaiian Punch or fruit punch. Then mix the batter according to the directions. Thats all there is to it!! It does not get any simpler than that. I used cool whip on my cupcakes. But really any icing would taste great. To get the different colors on my cool whip I just add a very small amount of food coloring to the cool whip and mix it in. Go ahead and give it a try and if you have kids they will think your all that when you make them cupcakes that taste like their favorite drink.

This is what I got for my three “uwins:”  a screen saver (the same screen

saver I won before), a screen saver (the same screen saver I won before), and a wallpaper picture (which is the same picture that’s on the screen saver).

Now, I don’t want to seem ungrateful but the whole purpose of a contest is to get something that’s worth more than what you’re paying for.  But of course, the chances are stacked against you so you end up paying a lot of money to win something.  In the end, you may end up behind rather than ahead.  But in terms of one item, the prize should be worth more.  I pay a dollar for a 20oz Dr Pepper.  I expect a prize to be of equal (another Dr Pepper) or greater value (Lamborghini Muira).

This screen saver and wall paper don’t cut it.  In fact, Dr Pepper shouldn’t even be annoyed if someone puts them both on their website because it’s just additional advertising for Dr Pepper.  I’d be happier if they mailed me a poster.

Still, I suppose they didn’t have to have a contest at all.

Oh, and why am I entering in the ones without “uwin” at the bottom?  Because I’m a clever bastard and if I were running the contest I would have all the crappy prizes be given away with the caps that say “uwin.”  Then people would get accustomed to having “uwin” mean you win something.  And I would put all the good prizes on the caps that didn’t have the “uwin” so people wouldn’t bother entering them.  Then I’d take all the left over prizes that are never claimed and live the good life.

Hah.

Coincidently, I happened to have GnR's Greatest Hits in my car's cd player yesterday.  A good break from my recent purchases of Death Cab & The Ting Tings.  Variety is the spice of life you know.  ;-)

I think we should start keeping track of the Dr. Pepper blog as well as the GnR boards...

I had a chance to catch some highlights of today's matches from Euro 2008. I would love to sit in the stands and watch a football game. That is soccer for Americans. I have always loved the passion that is demonstrated by fans at matches when I watch it on television. I want to experience a crowd of 100,000 break out in celebration as the home team scores a goal. I want to be able to understand what they are singing throughout the match, as the announcers always drowned them out.

It is so much fun to watch goals being scored on a professional level. Hell, I love goals being scored at all levels. Today's highlights had some beautiful passes and just incredible shots. I appreciated the athleticism of a soccer player today, even if they sometimes exaggerate the fouls being committed.

I love watching soccer. I remember passing by a youth game last year and stopping to watch. People say that some sports are boring to watch because there is no action, primary offenders being soccer and baseball. I love watching the strategy that goes into every pass or every pitch. I appreciate both sports because I know what it is like making that pass or throwing that pitch.

I loved the scene in L.A. Story where Steve Martin's character communicates with a spiritual being via the electronic freeway message board. I had a similar experience today. It came in the form of a billboard that read: You are about to write the next chapter in your life. I couldn't have gotten a much clearer message than that. That was my epiphany that things are going good in my life today.

I have been waiting and waiting on paperwork in order to complete the process with the Navy Reserve. I commented to someone today that this is the most patient that I have ever been for something in my life. It is nice not to worry about things and simply live in the moment. My calling over and over again will not make the process go any faster. I called in this morning and this afternoon, as instructed, and left it all in someone else's hands.

I was listening to someone talk today about their mother committing suicide. He said that he never had a chance to make things right with her. On the night before she committed suicide they had an argument. He never had a chance to make it right. I learned something today. I do not want to leave a situation today unresolved, for it may be something that I can not repair tomorrow.
